Eduardo/Jones “you see I came to Deep Sky for personal reasons, just like you did || I picked you because I know you fell in love with an alien”. In other words the fic that I envisioned early-to-mid season three, and was super excited about till I remembered canonically Jones was in a pod for like fifty years or somethin’…

So for this idea to stand up I gotta pretend that Nora’s wall was the only thing encasing Jones, and somehow cut him off from using his powers while keeping him in a form of stasis (so no dehydration and starvation, alien tech is stupid anyways). But anyways, the fic follows a curious Eduardo (early twenties) searching for remnants of the Crash, wanting to understand the “aliens” his ancestors and the Manes men have been terrified of for so long. He stumbles upon a cavern (which honestly I’m a firm believer there is an alien in a pod in every cave and mine in all of New Mexico) which houses a mysterious stranger. Eduardo doesn’t look a gift horse in the mouth, instead he sets out almost everyday to talk with Jones. To learn what he can, and maybe eventually learn enough about Oatian technology to find out how to release Jones from his cage.

It doesn’t take Eduardo long to fall for the stranger, between the harmonica lessons and discussions of Oasis . And eventually Jones, as he goes by (Eduardo not able to correctly pronounce his given name), opens up about their shared history. How he crashed to Earth, a refugee from a war being waged by the man who killed his parents. How he made a mistake and ignited a war between their races.

Eduardo struggles to understand the fear that could grip him and make him take a life, distancing himself from the alien for a stretch of time. He struggles with the new found knowledge of Jones until his father takes him and Jim to Caulfield. Horror gripping him as his father explains their legacies and the expectations that come with it. After Eduardo sees the state of the Oatian’s, sees what his family has spent generations cultivating, he finally understands Jones’s fear.

He swears to right his family’s wrongs, to understand enough Oatian tech to free Jones. During his time searching after college he finds Deep Sky. And begins working his way up through the ranks and slowly re-angling the companies ideals and focus, with the sole purpose of releasing the man he loves. And maybe even creating a world in which they can be together. (Spoiler: Jones is the same manipulative bitch we all know and love)
