The dark Eldar books are great about how fast they are, but literally NO ONE says they are stronger than humans. I didn’t know that was inherently true until you said it. That’s totally erased bc big strong man marines
Yeah, because the oft-fellated Space Men are used as a "strength" measuring stick, there's a strong trickle down bias within parts of the 40k community where they therefore assume that aliens must be physically weaker than humanity, which includes basic humans. A commonly espoused concept regarding Eldar, for example,is that they're faster than humans, but physically weaker. This is both untrue and also... not... possible.
The amount of force you would need to be able to exert to move as explosively fast as martially experienced Eldar can is fucking impressive, to say the least. It requires, shocker, the application of physical strength.
Now, could an Eldar pick up a car or something like a marine? No. Obviously no. Could an Eldar dome in a car door with a solid punch? Yes. Because it's utilising similar explosive strength principles to that which fuels their frankly supernatural movement. Sustained strength and explosive strength are both... indicators of strength. You need to be very, very strong in both those situations.
If you saw a person punch in the side of a car door and felt confident in telling them they weren't actually strong because they couldn't lift the car, I don't what to tell you. Best of luck. God rest your soul.

Hey I remember you saying something about playing Eldari and your mom's second latest video is about mini-painting. Did you learn to mini-paint from your mom?
One hundred percent, I learned all my pro strats from her. The fact that I was mostly interested in using as many interference pigments as possible is irrelevant but likely unsurprising

So Ive been thinking thoughts about Fate and Ego lately. Well I've been thinking thoughts about Fate ever since Makiel had his first full scene.
It honestly seems that the ability to read Fate, nearly without fail, accompanies an overinflated ego. Suriel and the Oracle Sage are really the only people with any degree of talent at reading fate that couldn't be considered massive assholes.
I think about the nature of the Mantle of Makiel and what an individual must do to embody the literaly universal concept of being in everyone's business and deciding what happens.
Like, we know that Icons and nearly certainly Mantles have an effect on the mindset of the person who holds them. I don't think its literally possible for a person to be Makiel without facing their own form of corruption.
The first executor program failed because by cutting the executors loose from the Eldari Pact, and, by extension Fate, freaked the hell out of the Judges, particularly Makiel, because they were so reliant on their ability to read fate that they couldn't handle having a blind spot.
But they also couldn't deal with it in a healthy way, they just cast the executors free and then proceeded to put them under ever tightening scrutiny and control rather than support.
We know Makiel turned down Ozriel's suggestion of a Reaper Division time and time again not because it was a bad idea, but because he couldn't prove it would work by viewing fate and Makiel could not except anything else. The only one allowed to make decisions outside of Fate is Makiel, and he didn't like Oz and that was enough.
We also know that despite Fate Reading being inexact and flawed, most people don't treat it that way. Its something Lindon is warned of when he learns how to do it and he is still caught off guard every time it happens, the same way every Monarch is.
My biggest point is that the flaw is known. Oz failed to predict or account for the possibility of Makiel creating an imitation Scythe because he felt it was a low probability in Fate and he had contempt for Makiel. Despite centuries of Makiel wanting to get rid of Oz and just have the Scythe for himself. Despite the obvious idea that if Makiel was to do such a thing, he would attempt to hide it in fate such that it looked impossibly unlikely.
Makiel himself couldn't read the possible outcome of the fight between Suriel, Oz, and The Mad King, because he was too biased against Oz, he was running off of incomplete information regarding how Eithan had changed because he just didn't think he could. Because of a personal grudge.
Anyway. I don't really have a conclusion other than fuck Makiel and reading Fate is a trap, especially the better you are at it.

Do the Eldari have lemons? If not, due to their hypersensitivity does that mean quiet guns filled with lemonade/lemon extract are effect weapons against them?
An uncontrollable side effect of all the soil on craftworlds being in the presence of wraithbone means that the only fruit that can be reliably grown in quantity is tomatoes. The Aeldari have the widest range of tomato-based soups, sauces, juices and bologneses in the galaxy. So, while they aren’t necessarily accustomed to lemons, they are familiar with the acidity of fruits.
Also sometimes the tomatoes grow with the anguished faces of dead loved ones on them and scream when picked, but that doesn’t factor into the acidity or flavour profiles.

To End The World For You

I couldn’t resist sharing. Enjoy the fluff!
Pairing: Aemond Targaryen x named Valyrian/Eldari reader
Warnings: It’s fluffy, it’s angsty, its Aegon being an ass to a whole ass child, declarations of devotion and love, first kiss, Daemon is his own warning and always shall be, I don’t make the rules
Words: 1.3k+
Rated: 18+
You weren't really even thinking, all you knew was that an adult had slammed a child onto the table with glee. As he leaned down to whisper taunts into Lucerys's ear, you scruffed him, your hand clamped onto the back of his neck hard enough to make him yelp. Hauling him off the much younger Prince was easy, he made it easy as he put his hands up in immediate surrender "Though it seems my nephews are not quite as proud of theirs!" Aemond announced loudly as Alicent scolded him, swinging his attention back on the Princes that were scuffling with some guards, before his eye landed on you and Aegon. There was something to how he glared at you in that moment, something that settled a cold pit in your gut. It was no secret that he had no love for his elder brother, but that didn't mean he'd appreciate someone embarrassing the drunken lout.
"Wait." Daemon ordered as Jace got free and charged forward, his presence alone settling the fires of dragon tempers as he all but stared the dark-haired Prince into a quick submission. Aemond's focus remained on both you and Aegon, not even flickering to his uncle as you fought that gnawing pit until it was unbeatable. You begrudgingly forced Aegon down into his seat, an act that wasn't hard in itself, and went to stand by Rhaenyra, pointedly not looking at him.
"To your chambers, all of you. Now!" She ordered her children firmly, not sparing a single one from her disapproval as Daemon set his sights on the tall Prince who had started the whole upheaval. Daemon didn't have to say a thing, instead just settled in place with a sigh, one that made the Prince back down with a hum and leave entirely, swaggering all the way out the doors. "Elanna, make sure they actually go to their chambers." Nyra asked tiredly with a wavering attempt at a smile.
You felt shame for contributing to her stress as you bowed your head "Of course, Princess." You wove as much apology as possible into your tone before leaving, steps quiet and measured.
Once you were sure the children were where they should have been, you made your way towards your own chambers, wanting to turn in for the night, but a snatching hand from the darkness had another idea. You were pulled firmly against a strong chest with an arm pinning both of yours down like a vice, the offending hand clamped firmly over your mouth "Shhh." He hushed directly into the shell of your ear, a smile on his voice as he held you against him. You had no doubt he could feel how your heart thundered in your chest "Are you going to scream?" Aemond asked softly, his lips brushing against the sensitive flesh of your ear.
You shook your head the little bit that you could and waited patiently as he released your head, his hand joining its fellow in keeping your arms pinned to your sides though you weren't struggling "What are you doing?" You breathed, willing your heart to slow and relax.
"I wanted to speak with you." He murmured, relaxing his hold when he realized that you weren't going to bolt or struggle with your newfound freedom.
"Forgive me, but you could have just sent for me, Aemond."
"I wanted to speak privately. The Keep has eyes and ears everywhere and I did not want to be overheard."
"Well than," You hummed, unable to refute his point "Lead the way." Without another word he took you by the hand and began leading the way to some unknown destination, his footing sure and steady even in the dark. After many twists and turns and breezy back corridors you arrived at his chambers, a fire already crackling in the fireplace, front door firmly locked as the hidden door you'd used closed silently behind. "What was so important that you had to kidnap me, my Prince?" You teased lightly, goading him for answers. "If this is about Aegon, I'm not sorry." You added as you moved towards the fireplace, trying to remain outwardly impassive, to not let him glean your inner thoughts.
"I know you're not sorry for protecting Lucerys from my brother. I would never ask you to be." He dipped his head as he sat down in a comfortable chair near the fire, motioning for you to take the other one that was close by "I wanted to continue our conversation from yesterday."
"What about it do you wish to continue?" The chair was almost too comfortable, making you want to sink into it and fall asleep right there, even with your boots still on.
"The High Maester was able to point me towards a most fascinating book about Eldari mythos..." He paused, turning his attention from the fire to you "would you like to share in what I've learned?"
"Since you're tempting me with knowledge, I'd like to learn."
"Eldari do have Soulmates, or Luvai, as they're called. There's no single way to know if two people are Luvai, but there are mentions of several ruling pairs finding theirs by combat."
"Combat? What, is trying to kill each other romance to the Eldari?" You couldn't help but joke, suddenly uncomfortable because you had fought, you fought hard and yet it was more like dancing.
He pinned you to your seat with a knowing gleam, knowing that you already had suspicions of what he spoke of "There was one pairing, a much beloved King named Imarys who's Luvai found him on the battlefield. Spectators all said that it was like watching two lovers dance, neither gaining ground or strikes against the other--"
"You think we're Luvai because our fight ended in a draw." You weren't quite looking at him, instead staring into the flames, trying to smooth the swirling hurricane of thoughts and emotions in your head.
"In part." He admitted slowly, nodding his head with a deflating sigh "Though it is more because as soon as our eyes met I was enraptured by you. I knew I'd never want another."
"Aemond--" You tried, standing from the seat because it was all starting to feel suffocating. What was worse? You had felt it too, though you hadn't recognized it until that moment. Not in all the times you'd been around him, not during the glare at dinner. But certainly there, in that chair, and it was frightening.
He was to his feet as soon as you were, eye wide with concern and fear as it searched yours "I mean every word, Elanna. My devotion is yours. My sword, my heart, my mind, all of it!" He was pleading with you, wanting you to understand that he was completely serious.
"You are a Prince!" You cried, trying to make him understand just where everything stood.
"And Ethell, the Luvai of Imarys, was common born." He argued firmly, closing the space between you and taking hold of your hands, his hold gentle and unrestraining as his thumbs brushed over your knuckles.
You sniffled as tears you'd been unaware of fell onto your joined hands, your mind running wild with impossibilities, of tradition, of the refusals you'd face. "Even if Rhaenyra agreed to the match, your mother would not. We are on opposite sides of this cold war, Aemond, and I do not know if we could survive it if it becomes worse."
He let go of your hands and cupped your face tenderly, brushing the tears away with his thumbs as he searched your eyes "You are mine, and I am yours. The Gods have made it so, and only they can undo it."
You sniffled and placed your hands on his wrists, just under his thumb joints, feeling his pulse under your fingertips, letting the steadiness of it reassure and calm you "Only the Gods?" You asked softly, seeking reassurance as you stared into his eye.
"Only the Gods." He swore before pressing his lips to yours with all the care in the world. Lightning arched with pleasure up your spine as lights flashed behind your lids, the feeling of his lips on your an unfathomable pleasure that made your head spin.

It would have taken hours or likely far longer of combing the battlefield, or what was left of it to find Gaufrid if he went about it the normal way. So he didn't bother with trying that way. Instead reaching out and feeling for him. From there it was just a matter of landing the shuttle near enough, but not too close either. About a five minute walk. Grier kept close by as they traversed the ruins. Finally they come across the fallen traitor astartes. "Want a hand there?"
Gaufrid was pinned to the ground by a spear, several other swords pierced his armour. Around him lay the ruins of a squad of Eldari wraith guard. His left hand was mangled and his left leg was twisted. He had been struggling to pull the spear free but let his all l arm fall limp when Ash arrived, he spat into his helmet and swore "Witches!".

Hi :) Recently, I learned that many characters in Eldary are inspired by someone from your game studio. One of my favorite high school characters is Debra. I think she's a cool character who brought something nice to the story and gave credibility to Castiel's character. So I have a question: is Debra also inspired by someone from the studio? Thank you for your hard work, and I'm looking forward to the new game <3
Hello Please, allow me to correct "many" characters as it must be like.. 5-6 characters that were slightly inspired by people I know/knew out of all the characters I've ever created. And Debrah is not one of them :)

Just a warm up sketch to get back to drawing after three weeks break (RT beta was dreadful in some respects but wonderful overall and SO GOOD in terms of emotions it's given me. How dare you play with my heart like that, Owlcats?!)
It seems that I won't be able to get along with any of the Eldar present in the game, which is really sad since I really love the Eldari facial structure and would love to draw them more. But they elicit no emotions from bar mild annoyance. But they are so pretty. Why is this world so cruel?!
(The art isn't connected to the game in any way, the faces are entirely random)

we're going to start the "love and war crash course posts" off with my greatest obsession in the campaign: the Matriarchs.
The Eldari Empire is where the bulk of the campaign is set in. it is ruled by 7 half-sisters known as the Matriarchs. Each of them has their own house/family that specializes in a different school of magic, each rule from their individual cities, they all share the same dad (who we hate). We have a complicated relationship with the matriarchs. Some of them are wonderful. Most of them are bitches. All of them have so many issues. My thought process was such upon realizing the extent of Them:
Tumblr media
SO. obviously i am very normal about these women. these seven, powerful, morally grey, issue-having older women.
my boyfriend chase walked right into this one. he didn't see it coming, but he should've, and now here we are.
i am going to introduce each of the matriarchs under the cut. i want to thank korppipoika (linking them and not @'ing them because they don't need to see this) for drawing portraits of the matriarchs for me. I commissioned all of them so my boyfriend could have a poster of them in his room. i am the best girlfriend
so. the matriarchs.
we're going to go in order of age, starting from the oldest and the worst matriarch.
Tumblr media
this is Adele Alnwick. her specialization is enchantment. mind control. you might be able to see where this is going.
Adele is on our shit list at the moment because we met an NPC (Badger) who was my character's (Gilt's) childhood best friend. Some shit went down, we got separated from Badger, Adele got her hands on her, and now Badger is evil mind controlled and wants to kill us.
we do not like adele.
we don't know a ton about her. Her whole thing is "house of corrections" type behavior. you go to her city of Athuum, and you either come back changed or don't come back at all. Athuum is subterranean in the mountains and also surrounded by lava.
She has one son, his name is Naite, and naite was mind controlled his whole life and escaped through the lava to get away from his mother.
if that ain't a testimony to the kind of person Adele is, i don't know what to tell you
next up is the complete opposite end of the scale: the matriarch we love the most.
Tumblr media
Meet Freya Lovell.
the Eldari Empire (magic) has been at war with the neighboring dwarven faction (Ymir Conglomerate) (science) and the neighboring human faction (The Grand Imperium) (religion) for the past 100 or so years. House Lovell holds the line against the dwarves from the city of Thantos.
...how do i even begin to introduce Freya Lovell
she's half-giant, 10 feet tall. she is gentle. she is kind. she is a warrior woman who bonds with people (gilt) by kicking them through solid stone walls. Gilt views her as a mother figure and a mentor figure, as well as a dear friend. her specialization is abjuration magic. shielding. protection. she has a spell over her city called Heaven's Gate to make sure no dwarven projectiles hit Thantos. Thantos is shaped like a wedge or a shield. her keep is between her people and the battle line.
we met freya at a point where everything had gone to shit so hard in the campaign. we were wanted fugitives, we had no hope, no allies...and we stumbled upon a field where suddenly we couldn't use magic. and she sat in the center, and as we got closer we realized how big she was. she introduced herself, and gave us our first powerful ally, a home base, and hope besides.
i love Freya Lovell.
Freya had a human husband named Nicholas. he has since passed. Freya had two children with him. the first is her son Castien. they never really connected with each other because he was a bookish lad and Freya more readily bonded with his sister, her daughter Kalia.
about two years ago, there was a nasty battle. freya was out of commission after receiving her scars from a dwarven siege monster (think metal dragon) and so kalia and castien went out in her stead.
kalia died. castien lost his leg. after he recovered enough to realize what had happened, he ran.
...for two years freya was convinced she was the only surviving member of her family. and thanks to Gilt and Lost, we've returned her son to her. her daughter's corpse was taken by the Ymir Conglomerate and turned into an elite soldier known as "a Jack" (playing cards type hierarchy). we have defeated kalia, and are currently working on restoring her control so that freya can have her daughter back, too.
i would kill for freya lovell. we are house lovell in this household.
next up
Tumblr media
Octavia Gilkes.
so there was an eensy lie in the above description of the matriarchs. the empire used to be ruled by seven powerful hot older half-sisters. four years ago, in a battle with the Grand Imperium, Octavia's mother Augustine Gilkes, the Illusion Matriarch, was mortally wounded. In her final moments, she activated a spell known as the Hell Wall
the hell wall would trap anyone who entered the city of Thannath in a powerful illusory reality that they couldn't escape from. for four years, anyone who entered the bounds of the city was trapped in this illusion and starved to death.
because Augustine died, the matriarch powers were passed to her only surviving child and only daughter, Octavia. for four years an 18 year old girl was trapped in a prison of her mother's making, a prison where nothing was wrong, everything was perfect, and she couldn't escape. she didn't even realize something was wrong, most of the time.
we traveled to Thannath to see if she could be an ally. through a very complicated series of events, we managed to bring the hell wall down. we found octavia ratty, dirty, emaciated, crying in the same room as her mother's corpse.
and we brought her to thantos. and on the way we were telling her outlandish stories from our adventure, stuff that the hell wall couldn't make up. stuff that would assure her that she was back in the real world. she didn't believe us until she encountered freya's curse.
all the matriarchs have curses. part of their magic. we don't know Adele's. Freya's is that no one can use magic within 100 feet, any type of magic. Octavia's is that her emotions take physical form and can get away from her, so to speak (and literally). when octavia's curse got cancelled out by freya, she collapsed into Gilt and Lost's arms, sobbing her eyes out, because she finally realized that she was truly free.
how many times had she been rescued in there? how many times had she believed she was free only to wake up back in it?
octavia is my daughter. i love her to pieces. second best matriarch.
next.
Tumblr media
Helena Farraday.
...Helena goddamn Farraday. we don't know much about Helena.
What we do know is that Helena's curse is that she sees everything going on everywhere all the time all at once. she's the Divination matriarch, and literally Sees All. she's the surveillance state embodied in a person.
she never emotes. never smiles. never speaks above a whisper. hardly blinks. she looks like a statue most of the time
she has a loving husband named Actias Farraday who sees everything she is and sees every single weird quirk as a feature and not a bug. he loves his wife to pieces. the two of them have the most wholesome relationship in this whole damn thing. i have written smut about them.
they have four children. two are spies in the other powers. the other two are the secret police.
helena sees the future. but if she tells anyone about it, it changes. so helena is doomed to see everything that will happen to everyone everywhere all at once but cannot say a word about it.
...we have no real opinions on Helena Farraday. she's the one we know the least about. she seems chill, and i have no ill will towards her.
oh the next one is a treat
Tumblr media
Ethalind Newmont.
where do we even fucking start with ethalind. she's the matriarch everyone thinks of when they think matriarch. she's 7 feet tall. she's on all the propaganda posters. she's the evocation specialist. literally her thing is destroying people from long range.
she's also a massive hedonist and throws elaborate orgies in the capital. she has had 9 kids with 7 different dads (2 sets of twins). she is the matriarch with the highest kid count. i know in my heart that she has a breeding kink.
i love her.
she's terrible.
her curse is that her magic literally eats her body if she uses it to destroy. her arms are just bone, but her Transmutation sister made her rings that transform her arms back to normal as long as she wears them.
the palace in the capital city of Varantha is white and gold. opulence taken to its extreme. the transmutation sister literally makes gold but ethalind has more of it. everything is white and gold, ethalind is a stickler for it
she shirked her duties, actually. she prematurely passed on the matriarch powers to her eldest son through a magic artifact and fucked off to do...whatever she does in her free time idk.
honestly i support this decision, having magic that destroys your body sucks, she's honestly a girlboss for deciding that ruling wasn't making her happy and fucking off to have fun. i love her for this
we saw her at a party once. she took 15 minutes start to finish to make her entrance and when Gilt told her that she understood the impulse to "set it down" (her responsibilities) ethalind took her out onto the veranda and bitched her out for 10 minutes straight.
she is so insane crazy. none of the matriarchs are hinged in the way they are supposed to be, but ethalind is deranged. she is unhinged. she is such a fascinating npc and i love her. can't wait to see more of her
Tumblr media
Lorelei Omand. the transmutation sister i have talked so much about.
lorelei is another one we don't know a ton about. we don't know her curse. she's the first matriarch we met because we were passing through Mymeara and happened to rescue her youngest kid, only daughter, blatant favorite (Lola) from a kidnapping plot ordered by lorelei's youngest son, Dominic.
she turned him to gold as punishment. really horrifying implications for her entire palace being solid gold.
she has four kids, each from a different suitor that was kinda hand selected for her?? she hasn't expressed much interest in like actually pursuing someone herself, she's had people paraded in front of her and went from there.
the only issue i have with lorelei is that she shows obvious, blatant favoritism to her daughter and kinda neglects her sons. listen. freya isn't mom of the year. but lorelei is still worse. she's good with lola!! but not so much with the rest of them
lorelei is the only sister to be half-human, and also doesn't have pretty long hair like the rest of her sisters. she's insecure about it :(
and. hoo boy. oug h. here we go. last one
Tumblr media
Saskia Valentine.
she's enemy #2, after Adele. She's my girlfriend's character (lost)'s mom. if ethalind is nuts, saskia is batshit.
saskia killed her nephew (ethalind's youngest) on a live zoom call. saskia fucks otherworldly entities to have kids that she uses as war machines. saskia is the conjuration specialist, and spends 10 years prepping for the fuck of the decade so that she can have another war machine baby. she has 7 kids, 6 horrendously powerful sons and Lost :) 6 different dads, Lost and her eldest brother share the same demon/force from before creation dad in a neat bookending of the bunch
saskia resides in Altensar. nobody knows what in the goddamn hell is going on in altensar. saskia doesn't like sharing, and people tend to not come back if they go up there. she's terrifying.
whenever chase does her voice, i am overcome with murderous rage. i hate her so much every time i listen to her talk. however, she is so incredibly sexy and i want her to step on me. you know? she inspires so many contradictions, and i don't understand how she does it.
lost is something called a "seraph" which we have heard briefly mentioned by a hologram of the matriarch's mutual dad, Adamwyn. we don't like grandpa. im not convinced that grandpa isn't in saskia's basement
OH YEAH
saskia was the youngest and dear ol dad's favorite. which tracks so much to me that it makes me angry. it makes so much sense. she was spoiled rotten by her dad and doesn't even stop to think, let alone think that she might be wrong about something
i love her. she's so fascinating. i hate her. i can't believe how attractive she is. i want to strangle her. if she kissed me i would fear for my life due to my proximity. i want her to kiss me. i want to be on a different continent from this woman at all times. do not let her near me. but i also want to play with her hair and listen to her talk about her evil plans.
she inspires so many conflicting emotions. i don't understand. im in love with her. i hate her. i think she's sexy. she makes me so irrationally angry.
Tumblr media
look at them. bitches (affectionate) (derogatory) (conflicted) (confused) (aroused)
and that has been the Matriarchs! they have...so many issues
everyone thank my boyfriend chase for making such unhinged sexy women. everyone say thank you right fucking now
