𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙙 🧺 Has anyone been to @elephantparklondon? It’s amazing! I went for the first time last night and Elephant & Castle has been totally transformed! For National Picnic Week back in June they launched Picnic in the Park, which has been extended all the way through to the end of the month. You grab a tote bag from a participating restaurant, then you visit each (participating) restaurant and purchase your dishes. There’s a whole load of places to choose from all over the globe. All dishes were ready in under 7 minutes which made it easy to pop into one, order, move onto the next, then collect all at the same time! The Cubano from @miamibites_uk is an absolute MUST GET. My favourite item of the trip. Pork, ham, cheese, pickles, mustard. BEAUTIFUL. My joint favourite was @tasty_jerk. Their salt fish fritter and selection of curries was absolute pure comfort food, I definitely want to go back here! We had DELICIOUS gyoza from @koiramenbar, really good chicken and rice from @potandrice, bog Italian focaccia sandwiches from @sugo_uk, and my first taste of Ecuador at @mikosecuadorianrestaurant. Even if you don’t make it for the picnic, there’s a really serious bunch of great restaurants here that I’m already making plans to go back to. . . . . . #elephantandcastle #elephantpark #picnicinthepark #picnicfood #london #londonfood #londoneats #londonist #londonlife #timeoutlondon #cubano #gyoza #saltfish #londonfoodblogger #londonfoodblog #londonfoodie #foodphotos #foodphotooftheday #foodphotoshoot #foodpictures #foodpicture #foodpicoftheday #foodpicsdaily #foodporn #southlondon #caribbeanfood #jerkchicken (at Elephant Park London) https://www.instagram.com/p/CS9BBAGoSbP/?utm_medium=tumblr

This poor elephant probably had 1/2 kilo of bananas and only about 10mins rest from a good half hour of walking with over 100kilo weight on their back before taking off with the next group of tourists. Sad how they treat animals over there. #throwback #phangnga #elephantpark #elephantriding #thailand (at Phang Nga Elephant Park)

* Caiu a ficha!

Inspiring women at Elephant Park
Paula Garvey – Public Realm Development Project Manager
The final post in our series of profiles looking at women working in the industry at Elephant Park is with Paula Garvey – Public Realm Development Project Manager, who has worked for Lendlease for just over a year. We caught up with Paula to find out more about the opportunities a role like hers offers when it comes to a career in the property and construction sector.
Tumblr media
A new opportunity
“I’m a Chartered Landscape Architect by training and worked as a consultant for around 20 years”, Paula explains. Keen for an opportunity to diversify her career, Paula goes on “I jumped at the opportunity to move into the property and construction sector, realising that it offered a more interesting career path– particularly when it comes to seeing design work come to life in the form of the final buildings and spaces being created.”
Paula believes that the industry can struggle to attract women because women are simply not aware of the opportunities it offers. Like others, Paula points to gender stereotypes which take hold from an early age when it comes to career choices and a lack of visibility of women in the sector overall, as some of the reasons for this.
Beyond boundaries
“The industry represents a wealth of opportunity and I would encourage women to look beyond perceived boundaries and jump in head-first” Paula believes. “In an industry where there are traditionally fewer women there is a bigger opportunity to make a mark as a result and challenge preconceptions head-on”.
When it comes to what drives Paula in her role, like all the women who we have profiled in the series, she’s incredibly proud of her job and the tangible difference her work is making. She is driven by social gain – “creating streets and spaces for everyone and helping set a standard for the rest of London when it comes to streets, nature, spaces and people”.
Building the right foundations
For women considering a career in the construction and built environment industry, Paula’s echoes the sentiment of all our interviewees and is very clear on her advice:
“I would say go for it! Don’t be impeded in any way by the fact that you’re female. And really importantly, get as much on-site experience as possible at the beginning. That’s vital, because wherever you want to end up in the industry you need to understand what happens on site as the foundation of your role.”
Watch this video to find out how Lendlease is support more and more women who are choosing a career in construction: https://www.theguardian.com/lendlease-redesigning-cities-zone/2017/jan/24/girls-allowed-more-women-are-choosing-careers-in-construction
