Came across a post talking about vantablack and I started to look stuff up out of curiosity...the more I find out about it the more it makes Total Sense that it's Fabricator's favorite color. Like the stuff wasn't really designed to be paint or pigment, it's some nanotube fuckery designed by engineers for (mainly) aerospace use, and its process of creation is extremely complicated...but how it LOOKS is just very captivating and I'd understand why artists want to get a hold of the stuff.
The real life vantablack was made public in 2014, and this is (to my awareness) the first instance of the term "vantablack". Unless Fabricator crossed paths with the one-hit-voiceline time traveler from IEYTD 1, I can only think of one other possibility how she knew about vantablack in the first place: in the IEYTD-verse, she invented it herself! She's a damn artist-slash-inventor, she can do whatever the hell she wants!!! Since she also already has a deep understanding of the material it would be easy for her to experiment with it artistically. Probably going so far as to use it on fabric (though she'd probably find a way to make it more...comfortable on the skin. The texture of it sounds really rough and spiky).
Its distribution is definitely Very Limited in this universe too, not because of safety concerns but because Fabby just wants it all lmao. She's more than willing to spare some for Solaris with her space stuff though. That would be fun to think about.

wait am i allowed to ask another question can i ask another question.... is that allowed. will i get beaten to death with hammers... if i'm allowed to ask another question can we get 25 (one to five tropes they embody or could pull off in an AU.) for fabbylaris please. and if im not then um. hammers.
EHDHDJ YEAH you can dont worry I will not beat you to death with . hamber. Unfortunately I'm SO . not good with AU stuff I've been out of the fandom loop fora bit before this. But i'll give me thoughts.
Immediately i think about like. Monsters au. Vampire/werewolf seems like an easy pick but anything works so long as they're different monsters...the drama...the bloodsoakt yuri...
Also thinking about sentient computer/engineer that works with her. More specifically fabby's the AI made for Zoraxis and Solaris is the engineer who has to put up with her. Something something finding a sort of rhythm where they complement each other when working, and they start to become formidable despite still bickering.. The horror of being stuck serving one purpose, then the freedom of finding meaning outside of her directive with the help of one lonely engineer who found genuine company in her presence, someone who respects her as a sentient being. Also, i guess, fabby glados moments.

hrrrhgfhfd bad news about the clownlets.....
the puppy heads are made of a much cheaper plastic than the 90s version or the bigger faces, which means 1) they don't clean very well and the darker colors leave really nasty stains behind, and 2) they're too hard and inflexible to sew the bodies onto (the original bodies were just ziptied around the neck, which is why they look so goofy compared to the older ones).
So I think maybe...... if I want clownlets, I'll have to accelerate my plans on learning how to make molds and poured vinyl heads, and make that part of this project instead of some nebulous future one 🤔

Ikkaku Cosplay Pic/Early Munday Face Reveal!
Just got back the Ikkaku vacation photoshoot pics I did on my birthday a few months ago! I'm going to post the best ones on Ikkaku's birthday on my personal blog, but I'll reblog them here, OFC. But here's a sneak peek of me cospalying Ikkaku in her adorable yellow submarine outfit.
And yes, I will most likely be doing a vacation-centric plotting call so I can write her having a good time wearing this outfit.

A More Realistic Artificial Skin May Lead to Medical Advances - Technology Org

A More Realistic Artificial Skin May Lead to Medical Advances - Technology Org
A new bioengineered skin model could improve testing of skincare products and lead to better ways to heal damaged skin.

University of Oregon researchers have teamed up with scientists with the French personal care company L’Oréal to develop a multilayered artificial skin that more accurately mimics real human skin, and can be grown in just 18 days. The advance relies on a novel 3D printing technique invented by Paul Dalton, an associate professor in the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact at the UO.
The research was published in the journal Advanced Functional Materials.
“This is the first known case of replicating quality skin tissue at full thickness, using different kinds of cells separated by a membrane,” said Ievgenii Liashenko, a research engineer in Dalton’s lab.
Creating an artificial skin isn’t as simple as growing cells in a petri dish. Real skin has multiple layers, with different kinds of cells that perform distinct functions. And in the body, cells are supported by an external network of proteins and other molecules. Called the extracellular matrix, this system helps cells stay in position and communicate with their neighbors, which is key to keeping all systems working properly.
To replicate this complex environment, the researchers designed a two-layered artificial skin, with the layers separated by a membrane.

Researchers from Dalton’s lab and L’Oréal co-developed plastic scaffolds that mimic the extracellular matrix via a network of finely structured 3D printed threads. Then, L’Oréal researchers grew cultured cells in those scaffolds to create the artificial skin, with different cell types growing in each layer. The membrane prevents the cells in the different layers from mixing as they develop.
“Other attempts don’t have the same layering—it actually looks like real skin,” said Dalton, who is the Bradshaw and Holzapfel Research Professor in Transformational Science and Mathematics.
The underlying scaffolds resemble a mesh material made of many spaghetti-like threads, each much thinner than a human hair. To make the porous scaffold, members of Dalton’s team used a 3D printing technique they’ve developed called melt electrowriting. In that technique, an electric field pulls the molten printing plastic from a nozzle into a thin thread, enabling very precise control over the printing.
Some 3D printing techniques can create very fine details, but only small objects, Dalton said.
Other techniques allow easy fabrication of larger pieces, but at the expense of resolution. Melt electrowriting bridges that gap, allowing engineers to create relatively large objects with fine details.
The new skin model can be grown in just 18 days, the researchers found, rather than the 21 to 35 days it took to create previous scaffold-based artificial skin models. That makes it more viable to use in commercial lab testing.

L’Oréal is currently using the artificial skin to test cosmetics and skin care products. Going forward, both Dalton’s team and L’Oréal researchers plan to explore the many other potential uses for the underlying scaffolding in skin tissue engineering.
Other potential skin-related applications include healing diabetic foot ulcers and creating skin grafts for burn patients. Beyond skin, the scaffolds developed by Dalton’s team could support myriad biomedical applications, such as artificial blood vessels and structures to help regrow damaged nerves.
“While we’ve made this big advance with the skin, the design of the scaffold is crucial and could be applied more broadly,” Dalton said. “There are so many diseases and injuries in the world that aren’t being solved, so having an extra tool to try to tackle these is really valuable.”
The materials used in the scaffold are already FDA– approved for use inside the human body, making the path to real-world application smoother.
The fabrication facilities at the Knight Campus make it possible for Dalton’s team to scale up production of the materials, Dalton said. “This is the part of the Knight Campus projecting its expertise beyond UO to influence state-of-the-art research fields globally.”

can’t sleep, so if you will please indulge with me in one of my favorite fabbylaris thoughts. more of a scene, really.
while i think fabby and solaris got along a hell of a lot better by the death engine’s completion compared to when they first started working together, i think this was… hard for fabby to admit at first. if not for anything else, then for the sake of her pride.
of course, she doesn’t have to admit it for it to be true. and while solaris isn’t quite sure they’re friends per say, she knows they’re incredible coworkers, and the best team zoraxis has got.
solaris’ excitement grows as the launch of the death engine gets progressively closer. no one can have a conversation with her without her bringing it up several times over. years worth of hard work is finally paying off… her first laser project- and on such a massive scale, no less. of course she’s excited.
… but fabby… well, it’s not that she isn’t excited. she is, really-! it’s just… she’s. apprehensive. solaris will be gone for a little while, and zor’s been on edge ever since the theft of their car. the office won’t be the same while she’s gone… but her reputation would be irreparably damaged if she let that show. god forbid her coworkers catch onto that… so she tries to keep it on the down-low.
but, inevitably, during one of their numerous lunchtime chats, solaris comments that she “had better not miss [her] too bad while [she is] up there”. fabby, defaulting to lies as she so often does, remarks that she won’t. that she’d have no reason to. that solaris is going on essentially a business trip. that they can keep contact through email. that she’ll be quite fine on her own down here, thank you very much.
she regrets saying that after the crash. when solaris is dragged back from the wreckage bleeding and burnt and damaged in so many ways she barely looks like the same person. when she’s not even allowed into solaris room because of the high amounts of radiation she’s harboring. when no one thinks solaris is going to last the night. and one of the last things she said to her is that she wouldn’t miss her.
she’s never missed someone that badly in her entire god damned life.

Ok so
Laptops are just compact PC’s, right?
And a PC is just computer parts in a case…
And custom built PC’s are a very common thing….
What if I… built a PC… inside a briefcase… it should be possible… then I could have a laptop without the downsides of not being able to fix it… I’d get better performance… and I get to fully customize it….
And the best part? I now have a spy computer.
