What is a Bookmark? How to save and delete Bookmark?
Bookmarks
Bookmarks  (English: bookmarks) is a feature where web addresses (URL) are saved in web browsers for easy access again in the future. Bookmarks in web browsers are tools that allow the user to simply log in to the web pages they visit/will frequently visit. The user can save web addresses for easy re-access without the need for bookmarks and non-browser recording tools (Text Document, etc.).
Bookmarks are also used as the term Word Processor.  The bookmark operation/identification is used to specify a location in files opened using word processors in electronic typewriters.
Bookmarks were first introduced to the user in 1993 in the Mosiac web browser, with the name “Hotlists” (Turkish: Hot List). This name was also used in previous versions of the Opera web browser. However, over time, this name has left its place to bookmarks.
There are still some web browsers that use different names instead of bookmarks. The most widely known among these web browsers are “Internet Explorer” and “Microsoft Edge” browsers. Microsoft web browsers use “Favorites” instead of bookmarks and appear in browser menus as such. The widespread use of Microsoft browsers has led to the recognition of favorites as a synonym for bookmarks.
Internet Bookmark
Bookmarks are available in all web browsers.  Bookmarks are web page URLs saved in web browsers. When creating a bookmark, a name can be assigned instead of the URL. In this way, it is possible to enter the web pages by name instead of the web page address via bookmarks.
Bookmarks are accessed from the web browser menu. Also, the top panel of web browsers has the “Bookmarks Bar” or “Bookmarks Bar” feature. Web addresses saved in bookmarks appear here for quick access. The bookmarks bar can be edited according to user habits/requests.
All web browsers have built-in tool for bookmark list management. In addition to the built-in bookmark manager in web browsers, there is also a bookmark manager extension or add-on. Web addresses to be saved in bookmarks can be organized under folders.
Bookmarks created in desktop web browsers can also be used in mobile versions of the browser. This process requires a login account in the browser. “Synchronization” or “sync” should be done as long as the session is open. With this operation, access to the relevant current bookmarks list is provided on all platforms such as mobile and desktop. Also, other browser settings are moved between platforms with this process.
Mozilla started a project called live bookmarks in 2004. Live bookmarks are a constantly updated version of standard bookmarks with RSS feeds provided by weblogs and news sites. However, the live bookmarks feature was discontinued by Mozilla in 2018.
Social Bookmarking
Social bookmarks is a tool that facilitates accessibility for users by combining web resources and storing bookmarks independently from a computer/browser. With its web-based bookmarking services (iCloud Bookmarks, Google Bookmarks, Digg, etc.), it allows users to save their bookmarks to a web server that provides remote access from anywhere.
Bookmarks Save Location
Bookmarks are located in the web browser menus. When the addresses of web pages are saved in bookmarks, they are stored on the user’s computer. The storage process of the bookmarks list differs depending on the browser version and the operating system it runs on (Windows, MacOs, Linux). For example; Web browsers running on the Windows operating system usually store bookmarks in a local file on the Windows C drive on the user’s computer.
Free and open source web browsers such as Netscape and Mozilla Firefox store bookmarks in a single HTML- coded “bookmarks.html” file. Thus, it allows the publishing/printing of bookmarks in accordance with the “freedom in the digital world” principles of the platforms. It also gains interoperability between different platforms. All edits to save files outside the browser require HTML editing.
In the current version of Mozilla Firefox, bookmarks are stored in SQLite format together with “browser history”, “browser cookies” and “browser preferences”.
By Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge, “Favorites” are named with the original link name and file extension (Ex: “Homepage.URL”) and are stored as separate files. Folder names for subdirectories of favorites in the browser must be unique.
With the “Export Bookmarks” support available in web browsers, all bookmarks are downloaded to the computer as files. The downloaded bookmarks file can be loaded in a new web browser with the “Import Bookmarks” option.

"I cant switch to firefox because..."
"It's too much effort to switch"
If you install firefox, it will ask if you want to import your browsing history, bookmarks, saved passwords*, and in a as of october of this year your extensions as well.
*dont use your browsers built in password manager. they're very much not as secure, even firefox's. read about passwords here
You can't import cookies for security reasons, but external tools can do that for you (try to avoid this. if you do have some data you need moved over, usually websites have their own "export data as file" option)
Everything else that you may need to fully complete the switch will come up naturally over time, the initial setup can be half an hour, or if you're happy with how it is at the start, less than 5 minutes.
"They don't support [website]"
Firefox is entirely up to date on current HTML, CSS, and Javascript standards. Theres a bunch of websites that compare all the features that firefox supports compared to chrome and stuff and they're often just, wrong? I've used some MANY of the features that firefox supposedly doesn't support. Plus they're constantly updating it for added support of new and old features. anything they refuse to add is due to security reasons, and nobody uses those features anyway.
In my experience i've never had to switch to chrome to avoid a website breaking. Sometimes it was because of an extension* but thats a very easy fix. Firefox has profiles built in and really good troubleshooting features.
*(stop using privacy badger/possum, please, it's built into firefox now, most of all privacy addons are completely useless because firefox already does it for you!!! ublock is safe tho i love u bbg)
If a site tells you "switch to chrome to see this site as intended" they're lying, and you can use a user agent switcher to trick them into thinking you're on chrome
"i need chrome for work or school"
i'd say 4 times out of 5 you don't, they say you have to use it but in reality it's just that they have better control over what you can do with it.
My high school had a shit ton of extensions automatically installed on chrome, including some shit that was literally spyware, it reported to teachers and staff all of your tabs you have open at any given time, and they could force shutoff tabs and force things open. They had absolutely no control or ability to monitor me when i switched to firefox, and there werent any problems that arose from it.
You can also just use chrome for school/work and use firefox for your personal web browser. separate your work life and personal life, you can do this with two different firefox profiles as well.
"I don't like change"
The only thing that's different about firefox in a day to day usage is the bar at the top, which is entirely customizable. Right click, customize toolbar, and you can mess around with it to make it the same layout as chrome. you can also get rid of those weird empty spaces to the left of the search bar they add by default for some reason. mozilla pls fix. You can further use themes to make it even look even more similar to chrome, I did that with my school profile to differentiate them.
When I switched, there wasn't anything I missed, I didn't have any of the "ugh i dont like how [blank] is in a different spot", or "ugh they dont have [this]". it just worked. It's a web browser, it works and does everything it needs to be. I didn't miss chrome at all, nothing felt different and the adjustment period to the new browser was LESS than what i felt when chrome updated the design in 2018.
"I have no reason to switch"
If you care about privacy at all (which you should), i could list hundreds of reasons why you should switch. Google removed "don't be evil" from their code of conduct for god sake lmao. Every new change they do is a ploy to get as much data from you and feed you as many ads as possible.
The dumping of Manifest V2/dynamic filtering not only makes most adblockers useless, it makes any sort of content blocking worse. Blocking trackers, malware, intrusive and annoying website features, these are things ublock does for you which chrome is doing its best to get you to stop doing. They want you to be exposed to predatory ads and malware so they can get more money.
If you have issues with ram usage and performance issues, firefox includes a lot of (lesser known) features to monitor RAM and CPU usage. While it seems as it may use more RAM, it automatically releases it when more ram is needed by other programs, effectively using less. It also uses much less ram in total in cases where there's 10+ tabs open.
Firefox can automatically block sites from auto-playing videos whenever you go on them
As mentioned firefox has so many more customization features than chrome, allowing you theme and move around everything to your hearts content
While on desktop, Chrome and Firefox are very close in functionality, on mobile, Firefox is working to add full extension support to mobile, it already has a small catalogue of extensions you can use, such as uBlock Origin. It has all of the desktop privacy features as well.
Firefox, only has about 3% of the market share. Other than that, chromium controls over 70% of all browsers, with apple controlling over 20%. The less people use firefox, the more control TWO companies have on the very act of using the internet. The Mozilla Foundation is a fully non-profit organization, with full ownership over the mozilla corporation, they don't have shareholders, and prioritize an open, safe, and private internet. Don't let them die.
"but what about..."
there's probably other reasons but the last of my advice:
you can have multiple browsers at once, install firefox and don't get rid of chrome. try firefox, see if there's anything you don't like, and try to fix it, and whenever you feel the need to, you can go back to the browser you already had.

Xkit Rewritten settings across devices?
just a v quick little guide (with pictures!) for people who don't know how to transfer their XKit rewritten settings across their devices easily
(putting it under a cut because I've added alot of images and it takes up alot of room)
this is a pretty beginner guide, all you need to know/be able to do is to sign in across devices with the same account to access bookmarks or Google Docs on both devices, or just manually copy the Pastebin link
alternatively, you can use this basic recommended setup I made for a friend, to save you a little time, and tweak the settings to suit your needs
I'm running Google Chrome, but there's a Firefox version of XKit Rewritten too, and this should work the same
I've tested this so far on a Windows laptop, Chromebook and a Steam Deck, and all are working perfectly
here's a tutorial on getting Google Chrome on the Steam Deck (and getting it to open in Game Mode if you prefer that)
here's a tutorial on a workaround to use XKit Rewritten on mobile Firefox browser mode
I'm currently writing up my own tutorial on getting XKR to work on mobile, along with Chromium based browsers
(XKit Rewritten = XKR for simplicity)
my XKR backup is too long to paste into in a new Text Post and Save as Draft, which is usually my go to for saving/hosting things for Tumblr, and trying to check if I can add it to a new page on my blog crashes the tab/Chome entirely on both my Chromebook and my Steam Deck, so neither of these options are viable
On the Exporting Device
go to your addons bar, select the XKit Rewritten "X" icon, backup, then "copy all"
Tumblr media
Pastebin method:
open pastebin, "+ paste", paste the code/text log into the box, and "Create New Paste". you don't need to add any tags or be signed in for this. you can leave everything blank
Tumblr media
bookmark this text file and save it as something obvious like "xkit backup", for example. save it to a bookmark folder or just your bookmarks bar. not important as long as you can find it again
Tumblr media
on the device you want to import the settings to, open the bookmarked page, then select all the text by selecting the "raw" option, click in the text somewhere and hit CTRL+A, CTRL+C. this will highlight all the text and copy it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Google Docs method:
open Google Docs and log in with your Google Account. hit the big "+", "Create a New Document", and paste your code/text log in here. Save as something you'll remember like "xkit backup" for example
(you can bookmark this Doc for ease of finding, but it will be the last file in your list until you add more Docs)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
on the device you want to import the settings to, open the Google Doc, Select all text either by selecting "Edit", then "Select All", Right click, then "Copy", or just hitting CTRL+A, CTRL+C
On the Importing Device:
open the XKR addon tab again, "Backup", this time "Import", then paste the text into the box. When you hit "Restore" it'll say "Successfully restored"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
refresh your Dashboard and you should have all your settings restored!
Remember if you're transferring to a different blog, such as between RP Blogs, you will have all the tags and filters from your other blog, so you may need to go in and fiddle with those, but overall it's easier to import your existing settings than to start over from scratch!

To save you a search, chromium has the best privacy options and is the most stripped and open version of chrome available. the official website is a wiki for developers so go to https://chromium.woolyss.com/download/
Importing your bookmarks is easy but for passwords you'll have to do settings > passwords > export passwords in firefox then import that file in chromium and delete that unencrypted .csv file.

I would switch to Firefox but the problem is that I have multiple google accounts and managing them all manually is a pain in the ass. This is why I still use Chrome as it can manage them instead of me needing to relog into every email manually and remember all passwords. Also I don't know if I can export my bookmarks and also if it has darkmode

Food Formulae: Beef and Plantain Bowls with Green Salsa
We made beef and plantain bowls with green salsa last week using a recipe from the fitness coaching app I use, and they were really tasty — but, as far as I can tell, there’s no way to export the recipe or bookmark it to Chrome or anything. So rather than sorting through the ~87,000 photos on my phone to find the screenshots the next time I want to make it, why not record the recipe…

When you’ve used Home windows 10 or Home windows 11 for any period of time on-line, you’ve in all probability tried to obtain your favourite internet browser sooner or later and seen the intrusive message from Home windows reminding, cajoling, and in any other case pleading with you to rethink that Google Chrome obtain and simply give Microsoft Edge an opportunity. When you’re like me, you may need recoiled a bit by the pushiness however thought nothing of it and simply cancelled out of the dialog field to proceed your obtain in peace. I’m continuously reviewing new laptops, desktops, and different Home windows-powered techniques that each one come preloaded with Home windows Edge. Edge may be very firmly set as your default browser. Having to vary to default browser over to Google Chrome each time has led to a whole lot of makes an attempt by Microsoft to get me to remain, and every time I’ve clicked - every time I've switched to Google Chrome - I’ve gotten slightly extra decided that Chrome is the browser I would like. I don’t wish to maintain having this dialog with my OS.I appear to be sticking with Google Chrome purely out of stubbornness and spite. That is hardly a wholesome, affordable method, however right here I'm, penning this up in Google Docs on a Chrome Browser whereas arguably the most effective internet browser available on the market sits right here on my PC, unused. This shouldn’t be taking place, and it’s essential to discover why it's — and what Microsoft can do to begin gaining floor on arch-rival Google. Microsoft Edge has loads of nice options going for it To begin with, lets simply go over how superior Microsoft Edge truly is.Constructed on the identical Chromium basis as Google Chrome, a lot of the core performance of the 2 browsers are equivalent. If there’s an extension for Google Chrome, it in all probability exists for Edge as properly, one thing that may’t be stated of Firefox, Opera, or different browsers.Microsoft has additionally constructed a ton of extra options into the Edge browser, utterly separate from the Extensions mannequin, and plenty of of those are phenomenal. The Edge Collections system, the place you may construct particular folders of bookmarks with ease to assist maintain you organized, is so good that it makes you have a look at conventional bookmarks with disdain. Plus, you may export particular collections to a spreadsheet, making supply exporting for varsity work a lot simpler.(Picture credit score: Future)Then, there’s the instruments part, which has all the things from internet seize to read-aloud accessibility options (additionally improbable for listening to written content material whereas engaged on one thing else) constructed proper into the browser. Chrome is lacking a few of these key options, and as an expert author, listening to what I’ve written being learn again to me is a good way to chop down on copy errors, typos, and the like. It’s an important author’s software, and it’s constructed proper into Edge.(Picture credit score: Future)Additionally constructed into Edge is the brand new Bing AI chatbot, powered by Open AI and ChatGPT. This makes it considerably simpler to work with these new AI instruments, and it’s proper at your fingertips. Here is the kicker: Microsoft Edge has phenomenal efficiency that Chrome couldn’t dream of. Chrome is infamous for hogging reminiscence and grinding to a crawl when you will have too many browser tabs open. Whereas Edge isn’t resistant to reminiscence restraints, it merely does a a lot better job managing its reminiscence assets, probably owing to its a lot tighter integration into the OS itself. And with that proper there, it is smart that Edge could be the browser I’d use on a regular basis. So why the heck am I nonetheless working with Chrome?Microsoft, please, cease asking and begin promotingPersonally, I believe that folks’s resistance to Microsoft Edge is our inclination to suppose that if Microsoft is pushing one thing this onerous, it may well’t be that good.
This in all probability stems from the pure mistrust of realizing somebody is attempting to push you into one thing, and Microsoft may be very clearly attempting to push you into Microsoft Edge — because it should, contemplating that Microsoft is a enterprise and Edge is considered one of its core merchandise. However, there's something unseemly about the best way Microsoft does it, and it does a disservice to Edge, turning folks off.Microsoft has tried all kinds of how to fence us in. It breaks the simplest strategy to change your default browser to Chrome. It slaps promoted adverts on serps for the time period “Google Chrome” and places strategically positioned buttons over obtain hyperlinks to maintain customers penned into the default Edge expertise. Microsoft ought to as an alternative attempt to promote me on the most effective Microsoft Edge options and what it may well do higher than Google Chrome. Naturally, the simplest strategy to lose me as a consumer is to attempt to maintain me locked in with numerous clear tips and gimmicky conduct. Nobody likes that, and the anti-marketing Microsoft has built-in to its complete product line, quickly to incorporate Groups and Workplace, does a severe disservice to an in any other case unbelievable internet browser. Can Microsoft Edge win me over? (Picture credit score: Bandai Namco Filmworks)It’s actually onerous to say if I'll ever migrate myself over to Edge, as a result of there's a sturdy contrarian streak in me that rebels towards feeling pressured to do one thing. It’s onerous to let go of that typically.A part of Microsoft's downside for customers like me is it is relying alone private maturity to acknowledge that their product has substantial advantages alone. In a really perfect world, that should not be an issue, however we do not reside in preferrred world the place all of us are in remedy to work on our self-sabotaging behaviors. If Microsoft needs Edge to succeed, it wants to succeed in customers like me the place we're at, and what it is doing now positively is not that. Do I additionally have to develop up and get away from Chrome? Completely, my lengthy struggling RAM will particularly thank me for that, and, as at all times, hope springs everlasting. Perhaps that is the yr I lastly make the swap. Simply, please, do not ask me to make use of Bing. #Microsoft #Edge #Google #Chrome #deliver #swap Microsoft Edge's superior options, together with higher reminiscence administration, built-in instruments similar to a collections system and read-aloud accessibility, and Bing AI chatbot, make it a robust contender towards Google Chrome. Nonetheless, Microsoft's pushy techniques to drive customers into utilizing Edge detract from the browser's enchantment.
