me: wow i cant wait to gain insight into the fall of the age of arcanum in the mini series Calamity, in which we follow 6 characters making an utterly hopeless attempt to prevent The Calamity, and every hour that passes brings us closer to their inevitable deaths in the aftermath of The Calamity. Any moment now! The Calamity!
The Calamity: *starts happening*

This is so terrifically sad, but I can’t help but commend Brennan for rewarding Travis. He did possibly one of the most taboo things in D&D, he left the party, and he was rewarded for it. He got to save his family. Because this isn’t a normal campaign. This is a tragedy, and heroism gets you nothing. Selfishness, as contradictory as it seems, is the most useful trait.
AND THE THING IS—because I know how that last sentence sounds—HE WASN’T SELFISH. HE WAS THE LEAST SELFISH OUT OF ALL OF THEM. ITS LITERALLY THE LAST THING HE SAID BEFORE HE LEFT BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE WAS TOO SELFISH AND BLINDED BY GLORY AND NYDAS TRIED TO SAVE TOO MUCH but Travis WASN’T and he was rewarded. The Sightwarden, perhaps the only non-visionary in that room, gave us a single thread of hope for the future.

Our party is: two mean powerful wizard women who could step on absolutely anyone and they’d thank them, a bardlock and a bardsorer who are absolutely faking it till they make it, a sad dilf paladin who has just stepped out of the highest of fantasy books and is just Trying His Best, and a bird man rouge who is the most old school Hollywood noir detective to ever live, breath, and dramatically smoke a cigarette. I am SO excited.

I will say to all the people critiquing it, I get that it’s a sudden shift BUT these two stories are happening at the same time. They most likely will have effects on each other bc of the characters relationships with each other.
What if opal DOES succumb to the spider Queen or she dies?? Or any of the other crown keepers die?
Orym and Dorian will have lost 2 (or more!)of their closest allies within DAYS of each other. Thats gonna make some real juicy story points.
And if Dorian dies. Juicy juicy juicy.
I get it it’s change, change is hard. But I’m so giddy about this.
I think these stories are so intertwined that it makes COMPLETE SENSE for us to go see what the crown keepers are doing. Of COURSE.

This is just a PSA that your friends actually do love you and they don't want you to leave and if you are having trouble remembering that it's just the spider queen getting desperate :)

I'm just - it was a reasonable response.
Destroying the thing that is stopping you from achieving your life's work is a reasonable response.
Destroying the thing that is hurting your best friend and your husband is a reasonable response.
Destroying the thing that is keeping your friend trapped in what could only be agony - even if he's not in pain is a reasonable response.
Destroying the thing that is taking energy, that was put there without your consent, which you haven't been allowed to learn about, which you don't know the purpose of only that it is taking. It's taking. It is hurting you. And your city.
Something that is this well guarded, that there are this many secrets around, that no one will let you get close to must be for someone else's gain and your loss. It must be evil. The druids must have some power, something their working on, they want to stop you, they want to stop progress.
It's a reasonable response.
And your reasonable response to your pain and your dreams and your love - is the end of the world.

There was a lot of talk about how Utkarsh made such a great guest (even pre you know what) because his inexperience played into his character, and I'm here to give you the gem that is Aimee Carrero. Newbie Aimee and DM Aabria quickly becoming a fave dynamic of mine <3
