Fe Aspec Week Day 2: Friendship
Tumblr media
An indulgent piece for today!!!! :') It's no secret the trio's friendship has always had a really special place in my heart, and I've been grateful for the taste of acceptance and contentment it brought me during (and long after) I played the game. To see them find the most caring and complete friendship in each other was truly inspiring.
Here's to all of us finding the people that make us "never long for companionship throughout the rest of our days" <3

the car scene
written for @fe-aspec-week 2024! this is set in echoes dnd au (created by me and @good-beanswrites), in which the plot of Echoes is the plot of the group’s d&d game. scenes in italics take place in-game.
Lukas sighs. “Honestly, Python? I'm not sure if I love her or not. Since being parted from her, I feel no particular longing to see her again.”
(He stops briefly, glancing around the table, trying to gauge if he’s doing okay. It doesn’t seem right to spend too much session time on his character’s personal issues, but everyone seems content enough. He decides to continue.)
“I sometimes wonder if a vital part of me is broken. I look at Clive and Mathilda and see... Well, you used the word "fire". But whatever it is that they have, I seem to lack it.”
Python punches him on the shoulder. “Aw, don't you worry. The ‘one true love’ thing isn't for everyone. Certainly not for me. And I dare anyone to tell me that I’m broken.”
Lukas blinks. “So you think such a lack of feelings is… normal?”
This time, when Python leans in, he throws his arm around him, for a sort of half-hug that Lukas politely tolerates. “Perfectly.”
The session ends soon after, with cheerful goodbyes exchanged as they all filter out of Mila’s fancy apartment. Lukas joins the other two in Forsyth’s beater of a car, and they begin the thirty-minute trip back to their apartment complex.
It’s silent in the car for a few minutes, interrupted only by the staticky hum of the radio that refuses to turn all the way off and the ever-concerning rumble of the engine. And then—
“Y’know,” Python says abruptly, “it’s pretty cool that you made your character aro.”
Forsyth nods. “It is! You never see that in fantasy stories. It’s pretty sad.”
“…What?”
The car goes dead quiet again. The rumbling engine sounds louder than ever.
“Luke…”
“That was on purpose, right?” Forsyth says, craning around to peer at Lukas in the backseat.
Python elbows him. “Eyes on the road, Fors.”
“Yeah, but he—”
Lukas sighs. “Can one of you explain what you’re talking about?”
Now it’s Python’s turn to lean across the center console (and Lukas’s turn to wonder how these two haven’t gotten themselves into a car accident yet.) “So, that stuff you were saying in the last scene. How he wasn’t in love with that backstory character, and maybe not with anyone else, either? And he feels like he’s broken because of it?”
He nods, unsure where this is going. “I… thought it made sense for the character.”
“It does,” Forsyth says. “And it also sounds a lot like he might be aromantic.”
“Aro, for short,” Python adds. “It means you’re not interested in anyone like that—romantically, I mean. Like me.”
“You’re… not?” Lukas frowns. “But I thought—at the game cafe—”
“Hey, aromantic and asexual are two different things. Which I only happen to be one of.” Python grins. “So, y’know, if you ever—”
“PYTHON!” Forsyth turns away from the wheel again, this time grabbing his friend by the shoulder. “Can you at least save it until we’re out of the car?”
“Hey, eyes on the road!”
“I know! If you hadn’t started—“
Lukas tunes out the arguing in the front seat, too preoccupied with his own thoughts to keep track of what they’re talking about. He feels a bit guilty for (accidentally) tricking his new friends into thinking he made his character like this on purpose. For making something that spoke to them, made them feel seen, only to have to explain that it was all happenstance. It feels like a betrayal of some sort, even if he didn’t intend it.
But, then again, there’s something else bothering him. Memories resurfacing, of his parents asking him when he’ll get married, of school dances and college parties, of a thousand little moments that each left a bad taste in his mouth. He always figured it would change when he got older, or when he got away from his parents—but he’s done both, hasn’t he? He’s almost thirty, and he’s living alone, and he’s never once wished for someone else to share that bed with him. He’s never thought too hard about it, but…
“Python,” he says nervously. “How exactly do you know you’re aro?”
“Uh—”
“The general ‘you’, I mean, not you specifically,” he adds quickly. “Just… how do you figure it out? How do you know you’re not just…” He trails off, unsure how to finish that sentence.
Python glances at Forsyth. Forsyth, for once, stays focused on the road, where he’s trying to merge into the left lane of the highway. Python turns back to Lukas.
“Uh,” he says again. “Usually, I think, you just get tired of waiting. S’what I did. Got bored of waiting for something to change and decided to go my own way. There’s not really a process to it. You just… make up your mind.”
“And it’s okay if you change it later!” Forsyth adds. “Using a label isn’t something you have to commit to forever. If it stops being helpful to you, you stop using it.”
“Oh.” They make it sound so simple, he thinks. “I… I need some time to think about all this. It… makes sense, I just…”
“Hey, there’s no rush,” Python says.
Forsyth nods. “Take your time. We’ll be here if you need anything.”
“And for what it’s worth—” Python turns toward the backseat again, looking Lukas directly in the eye. “You’re not broken, Luke. No matter what anyone told you. Okay?”
Lukas nods, still lost for words, before choking out a “Thank you.” The path ahead of him is treacherous, but in this moment—in the back of Forsyth’s shitty car, surrounded by people who support him, wrapped in the hum of the engine—he feels like he can take it all.
(When he officially comes out at another D&D session a few weeks later, he receives a hearty round of hugs and congratulations, none more enthusiastic than Python and Forsyth’s. It’s the happiest he’s felt in a long, long time.)

Tumblr media
Hello @good-beansdraws! Thanks for the well-wishes and requesting some lovely Echoes boys. To be quite honest, I misread your message and was like "The RGB trio? Coming right up!" and only after I was finished I reread the message and realised you meant just one of them... Anyway here are all 3 of them with some animal friends! 🐁🐸🐦‍⬛🧚‍♀️
Edit: Had to fix the bird’s beak a little it was bothering me too much

omg what’s the Forsythhhh WIP about :0
Ahh it was actually a little assignment I had for school that I've always wanted to expand into something big -- we were working with figurative language and metaphors, and I wrote my three on him (from Python's pov). One was about him breaking down people's emotional walls, one was about how he's like the sun (not just warm/bright but that does contribute lol), and the other was something about breaking into relationships like getting used to hand-me-down clothes. I was happy with them, but it's kinda all figurative language and no plot so it never got anywhere 😅 I may end up just cleaning up the sections and keeping them as three standalone little snapshots, though....
There, across the fire, Lukas’s eyes were bright. He was talking with Forsyth, more expressive than in the weeks that they’d known him. Python had spent all this time trying to get the stud to open up; he’d used every last flirtatious remark in his inventory, every pickup technique he’d learned to get Lukas to let his guard down. All he’d learned was that Lukas put up stronger walls than anyone Python met – he had the kind of reservation that could send anyone packing. And yet, here he was, laughing freely over something Forsyth had said. Letting his smile spread across his face, Gesturing his hands as he spoke.  That was the thing about Forsyth. He would come along, chatty and enthusiastic and always with the most innocent smile you’ve ever seen, and go tripping straight into the walls people put up. The sheer force of his misstep would cause it to crumble down, and he’d just waltz right in, oblivious there had been a wall up in the first place.

Forsyth and Python's C-A support as it appears in Sacred Echoes. It has been slightly rewritten to extend its length and show a warmer angle of the characters' bond with each other.

love at first sight
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: forsyth x gn!reader
a/n: this could've been called love at forsyth as well 👀
Tumblr media
forsyth fell in love with you the moment the two of you first talked to each other
never before in his life had he met someone he got along with so naturally
the two of you liked the same things, you thought he was funny and laughed about all his jokes and on top of that, you were the prettiest person he ever laid eyes on!
forsyth had never met someone as perfect as you. it was like you were made for him
like the two of you were made for each other!
and yet, there was the possibility that you were already taken. that your heart belonged to someone else. that you had someone waiting for you at home. someone that wasn't him.
although he had just met you, forsyth couldn't stand the thought of you with someone else
he knew that the two of you just met, but he wanted nothing more than for you to feel the same way for him that he felt for you
he was completely smitten with you and he was praying to mila, that you felt the same…

why i read forsyth as autistic
this man is heavily autism coded imo. receipts under the read more
he is loud [1]. some autistic people have trouble controlling how loud they talk!
he has trouble fitting social norms and some people seem to think he's 'too much' [2]. he also says that he's just saying what he feels, and that he doesn't see the harm in it (unwilling to change to fit arbitrary social standards).
he is very, very enthusiastic about one specific thing, and he has been for a long time [3].
he takes things literally, even when that's not the intention [4].
he has (perceived) difficulty understanding the intent behind someone's words [5]. (the dialogue in question never confirms if he was misunderstanding or not, but the fact that it's brought up at all is telling.)
he also seems to enjoy following the rules & gets frustrated when other people don't. i don't have a source for this one but i think it's pretty clear.
additionally, his support with python is (in part) about forsyth learning to recognize that other people's needs are different from his own! it's pretty well executed and makes for a good narrative that doesn't treat forsyth's autistic behaviors as character flaws. 10/10 i love accidental representation
1 - "YOU JUST SAID I SHOULD DO IT!" - Python & Forsyth support. you know the one.
2 - "Laying it on too thick? Ha ha! Oh dear. I’m told I do that a lot. I suppose I just say what I feel without filtering it first. Python told me I should tone it down because it’s rather shameful… But really, what’s the harm?" - Base Conversation 1
3 - "Since I was small, all I ever wanted was to become a knight." - DLC support with Lukas. Also mentioned in Base Conversation 2... and really any time he gets a chance to talk about it.
4 - "You asked me to treat you the same way as I do Python, remember? But the only way I could do it was to treat Python with MORE respect." - DLC support with Clive
5 - "He’d say, “You can’t throw in the towel now!” “That stupid dream is all you’ve got!” …Hmm? You think he was teasing me? What does it matter?" - Base Conversation 3

Fe Aspec Week Day 1: Friendship
Python’s Ten-Step Guide to Discovering You’re Aromantic
First, you need to notice something is different between you and your best friend. Do it nice and early, when he reads you storybooks of heroes and kings and battles that all culminate in a beautiful wedding. Your friend likes looking at the illustrations of the knight rescuing their lover. He can’t rest until he’s finished reading the last page. Stop him to look at the pictures of the fights. Enjoy the dragons. Enjoy the hero’s sword. When you’re alone, be sure to close the book before the lovers even reunite, because you’re excited that he won the battle using all his strength and valor, and isn’t that enough?
Spend your childhood hating every Day of Devotion to varying degrees. You can start off enjoying it, if you’d like: confess nonexistent feelings to a pretty thing in the hopes it’ll do you some good. Give flowers to the cute neighbor only to feel nothing at his rejection. Eventually, though, realize that something about the day pisses you off. You won’t be able to put your finger on it (it’s only step 2, after all).
Worry that your best friend is the problem, and far too sentimental over everyone and everything. He’s definitely not the norm you should be comparing yourself against. Worry your pops is the problem. You know he never loved your mother, you’d never seen him love anyone, maybe this all started with him somehow. Then, worry that you are the problem. Spend sleepless nights and miserable days wondering why the goddess put you together with something missing on the inside. Try to spend as little time as possible on this one, but it’s okay if it takes a while.
One particularly quiet night, break into your friend’s father’s lord’s library. A little crime is necessary in affairs like this. You’re not the quickest reader, but maybe there’s something in here that you’ve been missing. Even if the bastard doesn’t have any books on the subject – flip through those pages of romance, courting, soulmates, and the power of love until you get fed up and leave with nothing to show for it.
Court everyone you possibly have a chance with in your little village. Silently compare yourself with the way your best friend talks about the butcher’s daughter, then break off each courtship when it doesn’t match up. Find someone new, they might be the right one. Take up archery to impress your potential dates. Learn all sorts of songs on your cittern (you’ll prefer the dances, but you have to learn the love songs because that’s all people will request). Leap into every gossipy conversation you can about affairs and crushes and relationships. Lend an ear to romantic tales about everyone from your neighbor to the head of Zofian knights. Throw yourself into it with a flirtatious fervor until you no longer recognize yourself.
Next, you need to undo everything you just did. (Well, you can keep up the cittern playing. That will still help you take a date to bed now and again.) Look yourself in the mirror one day, and take down the act. Find yourself again. Be at some kind of peace with it. If there’s anyone you’re going to learn to love in your life, it’s going to be you. Start that right now, while staring in the mirror and listening to your friend chatter on in the other room, since he invited you over to offer comfort after your latest, and last, breakup. You don’t really need the big to-do, but you do enjoy the company.
Gather up the courage to broach the subject with your friend. Don’t do it like a normal, composed person. No – save up the thoughts for a long while, waiting until you’re at a real low point. You’ve got to be in the dumps for more reasons than this alone, but this is the main thing that comes spilling out of you as you curse the world, the gods, and yourself.
Now, this is the best step because you don’t even need to do anything. You may think that you will. You may have spent the past few steps preparing for the worst. But really, you don’t need to do a thing. Let your best friend pull you close. Let him hold you for a minute, assuring there’s nothing wrong with you. Let him say how much he cares about you. How he wouldn’t want you any other way. Let him buy you a drink, because he says it’s something that you should take pride in.
Celebrate. Celebrate. It’s important that you repeat this step. Do it as often as possible. Repeat it every single day of your goddamn life.
Now that you’ve got yourself all figured out, you can help out some others along the way. You’ll find people just like you, and people nothing like you who show what else is possible. There will be that kind pegasus knight you get talking with late into the night. That young and withdrawn mage boy. The boisterous footsoldier. The imposing swordsman who was occasionally a swordswoman. The mysterious redhead who’s feeling as if something important is missing. Remember your own pain, and your relief, and offer him some of it.
(It’s not an official step, but make sure you’re getting your share of shuteye the whole time. This shit is exhausting and you deserve a break. Godspeed.)

Yes yes! You see the LxPxS vision!! Tell me your hcs for them!
To me, Lukas is a sex repulsed aroace, Python is the horniest gay guy, and Python is bi and very done with Python's shit, and they're all a polycule that leave the soldier life to go live together post canon.
THE WAY I FORGOT TO ANSWER THIS, OH MY GOD. Hi, friend!!!
I see the vision, but unfortunately I don't think I have thought quite enough about them to start creating headcanons 😔 I've been wanting to replay Echoes, so maybe that will change once I do lmao.
Lukas definitely has all the aroace vibes tho, I agree!!!! I'm going to assume you meant Forsyth for the second because the dynamic tracks perfectly that way ahaha.
Lukas definitely has to be part of the polycule because someone has to be the neutral point between the other two but also they lowkey imprinted on him like ducklings and you're not separating them from him, actually, and he's pretty okay with that.
I find it funny if Python is the one who seems the least invested in this, but then if anyone so much as jokes about leaving or whatever, he has the most visceral responses. Like excuse you??? They're bonded for life, how dare you, this ain't a breakable deal, buddy.
Meanwhile Forsyth is thriving being with his favorite people.
