Since the only way our fresh government managed to get rid of a literal nazi as a minister was when foreign press started taking notice... It would be a shame if some recent developments gained international attention :-)

Laskelman perusteella mukaan 8 000–8 500 kuukaudessa tienaavat jäävät kahden päätöksen yhteisvaikutuksena hieman tappiolle. Sen sijaan kaikki yli 9 000 euroa kuukaudessa tienaavat jäävät voitolle. Heidän verotuksensa on ensi vuoden veronkiristyksestä huolimatta edelleen kevyempää kuin viime vuonna. Eniten verotus kevenee yli 13 000 euroa kuukaudessa tienaavilla. Heidän veronsa ovat uuden veronkiristyksen jälkeenkin runsaat 900 euroa pienemmät kuin viime vuonna.

What did I just say about my faith in the current Finnish government being about -500% in the increasingly likely event of war?
Our moron of a Secretary of Defense, probably feeling very tough, just said he wants to make resigning from the military reserve illegal. As a result, hundreds of people have resigned from the reserve in protest.
Well played, Antti.

i support workers rights and strikes are supposed to be inconvenient
tons of Finnish workers (railway workers to the foodsector and so on) are going on strikes to oppose the governmentw plans to reform labour laws and cuz some social security benefits
if you find this annoying and disruptive, GOOD, i can only hope the government realizes this as well
otherwise i hope they copy what the strikers have done in france and manure their offices

So, we got a new president. It was close, but we did not get a leftist (and gay!) president this time either. Instead we got centre-right president who has history of lying for political gain, but who thankfully seems to be fairly liberal and most importantly, IS NOT Halla-Aho, who came in third on the first election round and is known for being very far-right.

The official organizers of Pride in Helsinki told the (currently) biggest party in our parliament, that's in the process of trying to form a government atm, that they don't want the party as an official partner of Pride, and oh man the amount of whining that has exploded on Finnish twitter since then.
Here's the thing. This (right-wing) party told its members that they were allowed to vote "according to their conscience" and that the party itself had no official opinion on the matter when the parliament voted for a new law that would improve the rights for trans people earlier this spring. The law passed, because the (then ruling) government and enough of the opposition voted in favour of it, but a third of this party's members voted against it, and in the weeks leading up to the vote several party members were in the media talking about how bad it is and how so many boys will transition to avoid the mandatory military service (I'm not kidding, that was an argument they seriously tried to sell to the public).
But now it's all "oh woe is us, without us the new trans law wouldn't even have passed and now I'm not welcome there?" Well gee, I wonder why Pride doesn't want an official partner where a third of the sitting parliament members voted against trans rights?? Why should Pride want an official partner that's currently trying to form a government with the Christian Democrats and Basic Finns (very far-right populist xenophobic party), both of whom's every single member voted against the new trans law?? Boggles the mind!!

The government will cease offering grants for peace work starting next year, according to the Peace Union of Finland, an umbrella organisation consisting of sixteen Finnish associations working for peace. Last year, grant funding amounts were already significantly lower than in previous years. For 2023, peace organisations received a total of 502 000 euros in grants.

One killed, two wounded as 12-year-old opened fire at Finnish school
A child has shot dead his 12-year-old mate and seriously wounded two others in a classroom shooting in Finland, local police reported.
Police initially said three minors were injured in the attack and taken to hospital, but later said one had died. The other two are in serious condition.
Armed police cordoned off the Viertola lower secondary school, which has about 800 students, in the city of Vantaa – near the capital Helsinki – after a call about gunfire came in at 9.08 a.m. local time.
Police said the suspect was later apprehended and Finnish broadcaster MTV Uutiset said police caught up with him on a 50-minute walk from the school in the direction of Helsinki. One witness said the “small” hooded minor dropped something on the floor and knelt down when police arrived to arrest him.
The suspect was found in possession of a firearm and is now under investigation for murder and two attempted murder charges. However, the suspect is unlikely to be prosecuted because of his age: the minimum age of criminal responsibility in Finland is 15.

Our entire government might be a depressingly bad joke, but I do find it hilarious that a common nickname for the head fascist (de jure, if not de facto) and recent presidential candidate of our far-right populist hick party, Jussi 'Master' Halla-aho, who is also currently and unfortunately the Speaker of the Parliament ("puhemies" in Finnish) is 'Vihapuhemies' = 'Hate Speech Man'.
Not an empty title, either: dude has been convicted of incitement of ethnic or racial hatred as well as breach of sanctity of religion for his rabid racism and islamophobia. He's charmingly also flirted with the idea of Holocaust denial by calling discussion about the Holocaust 'holohölinä', or, loosely translated, 'holo-babble'.
Lovely guy. Really happy 19% of Finns voted for him to be our president.
