alt text is not the place for fucking commentary, ESPECIALLY if you don't describe the image at all and ONLY include your commentary.
alt text is not a cheeky aside. it's not a private whisper to your friend.
alt text is an accessibility tool. fucking use it that way.

It's Sam's fault that Dean never talks about Hell after mid season 4. Hope this helps. 👍

I continue to listen to ASOIAF audiobooks while on long car drives, because this way I cannot just throw innocent library books across rooms in fits of rage. The more I slog through (currently on A Storm of Swords), the more I am baffled and enraged in a big-picture sense by the fact that anyone ever mistook this collection of non-functional societies for Basically Medieval Europe. The character writing continues to be good! but at what cost?

None of this means Trump will win the presidency, or even that his full-throttle political style will help him over the next 10 months. U.S. presidential elections are notoriously unpredictable and Trump has profound political liabilities. In recent years, surveys have found that nearly half of Americans rank him among the worst presidents ever. He faces massive legal peril in four separate jurisdictions and will likely have to spend more time in a courtroom than on the campaign trail over the coming year. Millions of Americans recoil at the memory of his first term, the images of a mob in MAGA hats storming the Capitol. In November, he would need to win over skeptical voters—unlike the crowd of diehards who braved frigid sub-zero temperatures to help him claim a dominant victory Monday night.
“He's gonna do everything he says he’s gonna do,” says Tammy Hechart, a 52-year-old realtor from Ankeny, Iowa. “He's gonna fix the wall. He's gonna fix the economy. It's gonna be awesome.” Others called his victory a vindication for Trump and the MAGA movement. “It feels even sweeter that people think they can use the courts as a way to win elections,” says Natalie Blasingame, a retired teacher from Texas who traveled all the way to Iowa to see Trump, echoing his unsubstantiated claims that his indictments are designed to damage his political aspirations.
The margin of victory made it hard to see how and where his rivals were capable of unseating him. “How are they going to put a dent in him?” asked Kari Lake, the GOP Arizona Senate candidate. “Who?”

I LOVE HAHN. He spins in my head like a microwave plate. He could have been so much!!! He could have parelled Sokka's insecurities about his culture, by showing him up as the poster boy in the village. Only to fail at his single duty, PROTECT YUE. Lived his whole life next to her, believing that it'll continue forever, only for her to completely disappear??? (Would they have been united in their grief? Their shame?)
He grew up with Yue, like there is so much to explore with that, which could have expanded greatly into how we see Yue's character and the NWT. They could have been best friends, they could have barely stood each other, they could have been struggling to stay together while their community suffers under the war.
Unlike Sokka's skepticism, Hahn could have believed in spirits. He could have had such conviction in them that he was horrified. Perhaps he lost family members to spirits, perhaps he recieved premonitions of them, perhaps he knew deep down inside that if spirits could give life to Yue, they could always take it away. He could have always known Yue's time on earth was on a countdown, which caused him to be on guard with people around her, even herself, leading to all the issues in their relationship. Every single question people had of Yue? Every thought about whether or not she was happy, as a human, or if she'll be happy, as the moon? Exactly what Hahn thinks all the time.
Always hearing it's "annoying" to develop such minor characters. Fine whatever, I get annoyed too, that I have to rework the WTs constantly to fix the deadend stereotypes the creators slapped onto them. (Btw, could we develop water tribe characters without tearing down the WTs to make them "good natives" under their "oppressive society"? Please?) Because if the show keeps saying the water tribe has a strong community and Yue's whole thing is that she loves her people so much she'll sacrifice herself for them (note: not cause of her "daddy issues"), then yeah. I'd expect Hahn to be at least "tolerable".
But no, I guess the fandom has time to flesh the billionth minor fire nation character with sympathic racist headcanons! Again!! But not any on the people they ethnically erase. Too convenient to take out anger on sexist native stereotypes opposed to... all the other sexist characters in show, like the FN! Lmao.
I like this show a lot, but...this fandom............
Seconding everything. When i'm less tired i'd like to add my specific thoughts, but yeah, i thoroughly agree with all this.

it is both deeply meaningful and deeply mortifying to me that my tumblr blog acts as a sort of record of my life from when i was a teenager to now, because i was never good at keeping journals but i can at any time take a trip down memory lane to see exactly what i was thinking about in my day to day. also at any moment i can be horrifically jumpscared by art from when i was 15 on the 'more like this' sidebar.

See I think when corporatebusinessspeak people refer to “company culture” they think they’re talking about culture in the sense of social customs and the ties that bind a people together
But what they’re actually talking about is the bacterial growth you get in a lab setting when you’re trying to diagnose an infection to make sure you get the right antibiotic to kill it dead

I hate-watched the latest crank documentary on the Princes in the Tower last night and I am mad about it for so many reasons. I will say, I was very entertained by the actually-respectable Dr. Henrike Lähnemann saying on camera that the only thing that could be definitely affirmed about a document issued by the chancellery of the Holy Roman Empire was that it was definitely written in the 15th century and authentically sealed. ...and then they ignored her. Also, the barrister who is supposedly this Professional Skeptic™ who will Dispassionately Evaluate Claims appears not to recognize the 15th-century equivalent of a scam email.
The fact that the documentary's conclusions are spurious and its methodology vacuous/absent has already been covered at some length here. But I'm still mad for other reasons, viz:
This documentary that supposedly is trying to convince its audience (?) just straight-up ignores the central question of identity
There is a lot of hand-waving and sleight-of-hand around the representation of people's qualifications. Ann Wroe, for instance, does have a DPhil from Oxford (1975). She has worked at The Economist since 1976. And if you haven't engaged with the field in 50 years...! The president of the Ricardian Society is represented as a "medieval historian." The Society's page has him as an "author and historian." Does he have any qualifications? who knows!!
This gets me to another thing I've been mad about before. The barrister says at the conclusion of the documentary that "History is for everyone" (true!) and that this means that anyone can just go off to archives and discover things and make field-changing discoveries. This is so laughably untrue that we have seen how wrong it is in the documentary! because Langley appears incapable of any sort of paleography at all! Seriously?? Seriously??? You're going to show us 15th-century documents in multiple languages and then the neatly typed-up translations that some poor graduate student probably did for you and then say that "anyone can do history"? HAHAHAHAHA but also this is no laughing matter as departments and degree programs and positions are being cut everywhere. I am livid. I'm also livid because professionally-trained historians everywhere (including self) are begging for funds to do the most basic functions of our work--attend conferences, go to archives--and applying for endless grants and self-funding what our institutions, if we have institutions, won't cover. And Philippa Langley gets £££ to swan about Europe with her barrister accomplice (paramour??) drinking good coffee and going misty-eyed over her own personal Richard III fantasies? I hate everything.

nmj cut off wen xu’s head, displayed it on a pike, and decorated the rest of the battlefield with his insides for the express purpose of /checks notes, killing wen dogs who deserve it. wwx went on a multi-day murder-torture bender where he literally peeled pieces off of wen sect cultivators who were uninvolved with the attack on lotus pier, because /checks notes again, it would have been too boring to kill them quickly or slowly. he feeds pieces of dead people to fierce corpse/ghost children with his own hands.
but sure ok, i’m going to pearl clutch over a rapist getting raped to death.
i don’t know how many times this needs to be said, but apparently it needs to be said one more time: there are no jgy stans in this fandom who seriously think that having jgs raped to death, and then having the sex workers who he paid to do the raping killed to eliminate witnesses, is morally defensible or okay. we are all pretty firmly on team Rape and Sexual Violence is Bad. it’s a good thing that jgy is not a real person, which means we don’t actually have to twist ourselves up into morality pretzels for still liking his character and finding him fascinating, sympathetic, and a victim of injustice.
this is also why we compare what jgy does to what wwx does to wang lingjiao and wen chao. because sexual violence is bad, and both the protagonist and principal antagonist do it, and those parallels are significant.
but what we are not doing is insisting that either of these two watershed moments for jgy and wwx make either of them Evil, Actually. only one part of this fandom is doing that.
