Updated old hair default replacements

Maybe I should reblog all of these because old MEGA download links are broken as it doesn't allow updates I am a dumbass... But I'm not reblogging because I think it's too much and it could be annoying for you. So for the past few weeks (or more idk time) I was reblogging only replacements that I added more ages to. What are those changes? Firstly I edited everything so the files contain as little resources as possible. For replacements with added ages I edited placement in the catalog if I didn't like it and some I remade to use method that I use nowadays (method of using hidden clones. When I started to upload DRs here I was using method from Spookymuffin, now I use it only if there's no hidden clones but in modified version so there's no unnecessary resources in the end product).

hi!! how do you sort added ages (hidden clones) in hair defaults? i understand how to make them visible and working, but i dont have a clue what to put in the sortindex, especially as for example af tf and cf could have wildly different sort numbers and i'm trying to sort toddler clones. or maybe do you just use your own system for sorting? thanks in advance <3

Short answer: it's kinda arbitrary ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Long answer: oh boy

I do in fact have my own system for sorting! Once I realized that you could even "add" the hidden clones (courtesy of May), I wanted to fill out the catalog and keep the order of things somewhat similar for all ages.

What I realized then was that Maxis gives different sortindices to all different hair colours. If black is 13, brown will be 15, blonde 14 and red 16. For Base Game and early EP hairs, grey hair will use entirely different values because they're in a separate collection, but more on that some other time.

Anyway, in specifically the toddler bin, which I focused on since I needed to add the most to it, I realized that it gave me three free slots between each entry. If we take the black bin from the above example, the previous hair will have sortindex 9 and the next one will have 17, since the other numbers are in the other colour bins.

Sooooo I kinda just mapped out the order that I wanted the hairs in, based on the adult bin for the most part, and squeezed them in wherever I could.

Here are my notes from when I first started mapping this out. You can see that for longsimple, halo, frenchbraid and getfabulous, I just gave all four colours the same sortindex, because it's a negative number and will appear before all toddler hairs anyway. Looking at braids, feather and pagepunk, I've used values that'll fit them right in between bald_bare and bald_swirl. And so on.

For the hat hairs, I didn't bother giving them separate values for each colour since they're far enough back that there aren't any toddler hairs there. That's also what I've done for a lot of the later EP/SP hairs, since they're often only available for adults and maybe teens anyway. Also, if you look close enough you can see that this is from before I found out about hidden hat hair clones. :)

But yeah, at the end of the day, it is kind of up to you how you want to sort your hairs. I've created a system that works for me, but I'm sure there are people who disagree. The first step, though, is probably mapping out what the vanilla catalog looks like, and figuring out where you can add things.

Some practical information: The Frag Sort Idx you see by hovering over something in CAS debug mode is displayed in decimal, but the sortindex value in the binary index is in hexadecimal. And, of course, you need to set them to the right collection in the 3D ID referencing file.
