❝ Adam Kelleher was used to not being "good enough". A son of one of Gotham City's wealthiest families, he was never "good enough" for his father, a cruel man who seemed his son too weak to take the helm of the family's manufacturing business. He was never "good enough" for his teachers, who thought he spent too much time scribbling down chemical formulas and doodling inventions when he should have been paying attention to his lessons. The only person he'd ever been accepted by was Bruce Wayne, his best (and only) friend since childhood, who had shown him that being "good enough" was, frankly, a load of crock.

Now twenty-eight, Adam had found a good job at one of Gotham's engineering labs, spending his days bringing his boyhood doodles of inventions into being, using his free time to come up with gadgets for his vigilante best friend, and occasionally trying to set himself up on a date. But then Gotham's corrupt officials start turning up dead, a cryptic killer has started leaving riddles for the Batman, and Bruce needs Adam more than ever.

Adam may have never been deserving of the rest of the world's approval. But maybe, just maybe, he might be "good enough" to help his childhood-friend-turned-crush solve the Riddler's puzzles, take the psychotic killer down, and hopefully save their godforsaken city. ❞

She's back from Earth-2, after making a name for herself over there as The Flash. Jared is on the precipice of starting something with Wally – late night ice creams and stolen kisses in the hallway – and it's amazing as any new thing can be. But when he sees her, a little doubt starts to creep in. Maybe... he's thinking, they ended things too soon, and she's back for a reason...

Jesse pulls him aside, after a few days of skirted encounters and uneasy glances on Jared's part, to talk. They grab their regulars from Jitters, speed up to a city roof, and reminisce. In the sun, with the breeze, without the stressors of a superhero life, they realise one thing: they like each other, they have fun, they feel free to be themselves around each other... but in a way that makes them better off as friends. Not everything has to be some magical, pre-destined, meant-to-be 'thing'.

❝ There were very few people who knew that Poison Ivy, plant-themed seductress and long-time enemy of Gotham’s Caped Crusader, had a daughter. Born out of a one-night stand between her mother and low-level gang member, Elena had inherited her mother’s powers for plant and toxin manipulation, and Pamela Isley had been prepared to raise her daughter to be her little partner in crime, a twisted version of a mini-me to help her mother terrorize Gotham with their thorny and poisonous abilities.

But Elena hadn’t wanted that for herself. A sweet, shy girl with a tendency for kindness, she had wanted no part in her mother’s schemes against the Batman and Gotham’s innocents, and so had run away, searching for the one person she believed could help someone in her situation. She found the Batman and begged for his help, begged him to free her from her mother’s plans and show her how to be a good person like him… and she made this desperate plea at the ripe old age of six years old.

Bruce Wayne, hidden behind the imposing cowl of his iconic suit, had almost shed a tear at the sight of this sweet, tiny girl pleading for his help to get her out of a desperate situation. Knowing he could never put Elena into the foster system or have her adopted because of her powers, the billionaire vigilante had taken the daughter of one of his nemeses into his home and, later, his heart, raising her as his own, helping her learn to control her powers, and, eventually, teaching her to fight so she could fulfill her wish of joining him in taking down crime on Gotham’s streets. Over the years, Elena steadily wormed her way into Bruce’s walled-off heart, and he came to view her as his own daughter, never forgetting but not caring about her true origins.

Now, several years later, Elena roams the streets of Gotham at night alongside her adoptive father, taking down criminals in a beautiful green suit under the alias Persephone. But after the death of Superman, who was killed in a fight Bruce kept her away from, Elena sees strange aliens start to show up around her city, attracted by Earth’s newfound vulnerability. With a huge, deadly threat looming on the horizon, Bruce is forced to recruit new allies into a team to help him and his adoptive daughter take on the incoming alien army.

Now part of a team of amazing and imperfect heroes (including a very cute and very awkward speedster), Elena must prepare herself to finally find out if Bruce answered the plea she gave him all those years ago: to make her into a hero who is worthy to fight alongside him.

(And, possibly, to find out how much her flirting can make Barry blush before he passes out, but that is not her focus here. What? It’s not!) ❞

❝ Paisley had wanted to be a hero since they were twelve years old. Like most kids in Gotham City, she had grown up hearing stories about the Batman roaming Gotham's dark streets every night, delivering justice and putting criminals away where they belonged. They had noted every new Robin, every new Batgirl, and been thrilled when Batwoman first arrived on the scene. But when the Green Arrow made his debut in Starling City, Paisley realized exactly what Gotham, even with all its badass black-clad angels of justice, was lacking.

Gotham needed an archer. And Paisley, twelve years old but already able to outshoot her professional archery instructor, was the just the person to give it one.

And so they had trained. She had spent every second of her spare time improving her shooting skills until she very well could have gone to the Olympics if they'd chosen, and working with the MMA instructor she'd begged their parents for when she'd turned fifteen until they were sure she was nearly on Batman's level. And on their twenty-third birthday, right after starting her second year of university, Paisley made their debut on Gotham's streets, taking down several muggers and thieves on her first night and capturing the attention of Gotham's media.

While the rest of Gotham was mainly amused by this new purple-clad vigilante calling themself Sagittarius (an archer! In Gotham! Can you believe it?) Jason Todd was intrigued. He'd seen the videos; this chick had major skills, and he wanted to know who she was. And as it turned out, she wasn't that hard to find. A first meeting occurred while sharing the takedown of a drug shipment, a conversation happened, and an agreement was reached: neither young vigilante particularly wanted to be a sidekick or a partner, but there was no shame in lending or taking a hand whenever they crossed paths, right?

Two years later, Paisley's nighttime career, as well as their deal with Red Hood, is still going strong. She works as an secretary at Wayne Industries during the day, slings arrows by night, and pretty much always hopes to run into the scarlet-hooded anti-hero, who isn't nearly as cold and intimidating as the public seems to think. But with every assist, every trading of back-and-forth banter, they can't help but wonder even more: who is this dry-witted gunslinger, and how can she be this attracted to him when they've never even seen his face?

Well, Paisley supposes, nothing is ever normal or unconfusing in Gotham. And when you're a vigilante, even less so. ❞

❝ There may have been a number of people who knew about the existence of the League of Assassins, but only a very small circle knew that the seemingly all-powerful league had an enemy. An extremely shadowed organization, run out of Moscow by an incredibly skilled former employee of the League, which plucked abandoned and orphaned children off the streets and out of the foster system and trained them to become the most skilled, ruthless killers imaginable. That was the only information known about this organization, aside from its name, which was often whispered among League members with barely-disguised nerves: Logovo L'vov.

Translation? "The Den of Lions".

Ivana Morozova was one of the many neglected children who had been stolen and trained by the Den. Taken at only two years old, she had grown to become the Den of Lions' proudest achievement, earning the codename Vdovets ("widower") because of the amount of married, powerful men she had killed over the years. But unlike her fellow assassins and the trainers who had raised her, Ivana was not proud of anything she had done. She despised what she was expected to do, she despised what the Den had forced her to become, and she wanted nothing more than to escape.

Then one day, finally, she seems to get her chance. Den agents are rarely given assignments outside of Russia, but it seems the heads of the organization want to ramp up their war against the League of Assassins. As such, Ivana is given what is undoubtedly her most difficult mission yet:

Go to Gotham City, find Damian Wayne, current Robin to his father's Batman and heir to the League of Assassins, and kill him.

Seeing her chance of escape, Ivana heads to Gotham, fully intending to start a new life for herself and hoping to never participate in violence again. But after seeing the amount of crime and violence in this city, her conscience will not let her rest, and she quickly becomes Gotham's newest vigilante. She becomes the Whisper, an angel of justice clad in all white who completely hides her face and never utters a sound, simply giving criminals a sound beating and dumping them on the GCPD's doorstep.

Ivana now lives her life with two simple goals: protect Gotham City as the Whisper without letting anybody know her identity, and never let Logovo L'vov find her. But her former handlers are determined to find the girl who betrayed them, and Nightwing, with his charming smiles and quips that isn't nearly as witty as he thinks, can't seem to leave her alone, whether she talks or not. And even worse, Ivana isn't entirely sure she wants him to.

Ivana had promised herself that she would stay away from the Wayne family, lest anyone ever figure out she's been tasked with killing one of them. But she, like everyone else in the Den of Lions, knows Dick Grayson's true identity - and with every late-night meeting in costume, she comes closer and closer to wanting to reveal hers.

As the Americans like to say: out of the frying pan, into the fire. ❞

OC HALLOWEEN CHALLENGE — Day Eleven: The Killer

In which Ivana Morozova, most favored student of the assassins organization known as the Den of Lions, is sent to Gotham City on a very important mission: to kill Damian Wayne, son of the Batman and heir to the Den’s biggest rivals, the League of Assassins. And, as she has done on every assignment before, Ivana completes her mission, killing the young boy and once again proving that she is the Den of Lions’ proudest accomplishment.

But she doesn’t stop there - because now, spurned on by killing a boy whose death will so devastate both the League of Assassins and the entire Batman family, the power has gone to Ivana’s head, and her bloodlust had spiked out of control. The Batman and all his allies are next to fall, then every single member of his rogues gallery (including the Joker, whom the people of Gotham were beginning to believe couldn’t be killed)… and now the richest and most powerful Gothamites are starting to be killed as well, each slaughtered in the same brutal way as their heroes and villains, with the word whisper drawn on the walls above their corpses in their own blood.

The council of the Den of Lions meets. They all agree that they cannot let this continue, that they cannot allow their former star student to go on creating this carnage and possibly bringing attention to them, that they must send their most skilled remaining assassins to Gotham to cut Ivana down… but whenever they send out an assassin, all that ever returns to their headquarters are unmarked boxes, filled with photographs of their students’ dead bodies and that now-dreaded word marked on the wall as always.

After all, Ivana reasons to herself, they created the monster she is, made her even better at the taking of life than the people they’ve sent to try and take hers… why should they be surprised that their weapon has broken and gone out of control?

They’re haunted and bloodthirsty, compelling in a dangerous way. Everyone has a monster within but due to some tragic backstory of abuse, hate, or ridicule, these people – or things– let the monster win. Whether they done a mask or turn your dreams into sentient nightmares, they’re the main reason why anybody shows up to movie night. Which one of your OCs looks into the reflection of the knife in their hand, and pictures themselves chopping up human bodies instead of vegetables?

❝ Donnie Carver had spent almost all of his childhood in a lab. Having been stolen from the hospital as an infant, Donnie was the primary test subject in the Sentinel Project, an illegal human experiment run by a group of ex-government scientists seeking to create a super-solider that could someday overthrow the very officials who had seen the corruption in their experiments and fired them from their government positions. For as long as he could remember, Donnie had spent his days being poked and prodded and stuck with needles, being put through innumerable tests so the scientists could see if the drugs they were pumping him full of were fulfilling their purpose.

By the time he was seventeen, Donnie was nearly the super-soldier his captors had intended for him to be - strong and fast as ten humans combined, with eyes that could see every little detail in a pitch-black room and ears that could hear someone's frightened heartbeat from the other side of the city. But he wanted nothing less than to be a puppet for the people who'd stolen him away from his parents before he could even walk - he wanted to help people, not harm them. So one night, when a terrible lightning storm knocked out the power to the facility where he was being held, Donnie took his chance, managing to escape Project Sentinel a mere month before the government finally discovered them and shut the project down.

Now, years later, Donnie has managed to make a life for himself in Washington, DC, working as an IT consultant and hiding the truth of his origins from everyone he meets. But after the famous hero Wonder Woman starts appearing on the local news, having moved her noble exploits to Washington, Donnie becomes inspired, drawing on that desire to help people that motivated him to escape his captors and taking to the streets as the vigilante Sentinel - an homage to the scientists who made Donnie what he is, and a silent promise to himself that he will never become what they wanted him to be.

The people of Washington are delighted to have two heroes protecting them - but the US government is still looking for the Project Sentinel test subject they could never find, and Wonder Woman is determined to know who her new companion in local heroics is underneath his dark mask. Donnie doesn't trust the government with his identity one bit... but as he and Wonder Woman get closer with each new villain they take down together, he finds himself thinking that, maybe, he can trust her.

Donnie isn't used to letting people in. Affected by his childhood as he is, it's never seemed like a good idea. But Wonder Woman is intelligent, good-hearted, and impossibly beautiful... and though Donnie has no more idea about her true identity than she does about his, his walls crumble a little bit more every time he coaxes a smile out of her serious face.

And as terrifying as that is, he's pretty sure he's okay with it. ❞

INTRODUCING… MY DCEU ORIGINAL CHARACTER, ELENA ISLEY

❝ There were very few people who knew that Poison Ivy, plant-themed seductress and long-time enemy of Gotham’s Caped Crusader, had a daughter. Born out of a one-night stand between her mother and low-level gang member, Elena had inherited her mother’s powers for plant and toxin manipulation, and Pamela Isley had been prepared to raise her daughter to be her little partner in crime, a twisted version of a mini-me to help her mother terrorize Gotham with their thorny and poisonous abilities.

But Elena hadn’t wanted that for herself. A sweet, shy girl with a tendency for kindness, she had wanted no part in her mother’s schemes against the Batman and Gotham’s innocents, and so had run away, searching for the one person she believed could help someone in her situation. She found the Batman and begged for his help, begged him to free her from her mother’s plans and show her how to be a good person like him… and she made this desperate plea at the ripe old age of six years old.

Bruce Wayne, hidden behind the imposing cowl of his iconic suit, had almost shed a tear at the sight of this sweet, tiny girl pleading for his help to get her out of a desperate situation. Knowing he could never put Elena into the foster system or have her adopted because of her powers, the billionaire vigilante had taken the daughter of one of his nemeses into his home and, later, his heart, raising her as his own, helping her learn to control her powers, and, eventually, teaching her to fight so she could fulfill her wish of joining him in taking down crime on Gotham’s streets. Over the years, Elena steadily wormed her way into Bruce’s walled-off heart, and he came to view her as his own daughter, never forgetting but not caring about her true origins.

Now, several years later, Elena roams the streets of Gotham at night alongside her adoptive father, taking down criminals in a beautiful green suit under the alias Persephone. But after the death of Superman, who was killed in a fight Bruce kept her away from, Elena sees strange aliens start to show up around her city, attracted by Earth’s newfound vulnerability. With a huge, deadly threat looming on the horizon, Bruce is forced to recruit new allies into a team to help him and his adoptive daughter take on the incoming alien army.

Now part of a team of amazing and imperfect heroes (including a very cute and very awkward speedster), Elena must prepare herself to finally find out if Bruce answered the plea she gave him all those years ago: to make her into a hero who is worthy to fight alongside him.

(And, possibly, to find out how much her flirting can make Barry blush before he passes out, but that is not her focus here. What? It’s not!) ❞
