breaking the cycle of generational abuse takes time.

the truth of that cannot be overstated. for a child, it warps and reshapes everything: their understanding of themselves, what their place is in the world and how they engage with it.

when we first meet Sam, she just seems like a cold, aloof, ever-composed high achiever. the more we learn about her past, the clearer it becomes that this was by design, not by choice.

Sam learned from a young age that love and acceptance were contingent upon her compliance. it was transactional- to be earned by meeting her grandmother's expectations, never freely given with no conditions. she took the one thing a child needs the most and dangled it like a prize over Sam’s head, making her work for it.

and if Sam needed any further motivation not to stray from path she was placed on, all she had to do was look to her sisters- both of their lives a tragic example of the consequences of disobeying. imagine how afraid she had to be, and for so, so long. it's heartbreaking.

then Mon came along- letting light and so much love in with her.

with that in mind, next week's preview wasn't a big shock to me. painful, yes- but mainly because it rings so terribly true. the roots of abuse run deep and are long-reaching- often much further than we expect.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've actually liked high-tension or conflict in a finale. it usually feels like a cheap emotional ploy- lazy writing in an attempt to keep the audience coming back. in my opinion, that's absolutely not what we're seeing here.

the end still remains to be seen, but I have no doubt Sam will finally, permanently end the cycle. it's just that a little more work, a little more struggle, unfortunately- has to happen first.

a toxic foundation laid over a lifetime has finally been cracked, fractured. thanks to love, the biggest work is done. for me, next week doesn't seem like a step back at all.

it's just the last breaking of the wheel.

a note on Nueng, my beloved: sometimes, tough love is incredibly necessary, especially when you're so far gone in a situation that you can't see it for what it is. I was thrilled Nueng was there to provide an equally-strong opposing voice to their grandmother's authority. the one point I strongly disagreed with her on is calling Sam "soft" for continuing to bend to her grandmother's will.

Sam's reluctance to leave even when it's killing her has everything to do with a lifetime of conditioning and love for her grandmother (which she doesn't deserve)- she's not weak; she's a victim. she did find her strength when she walked away, and I fully believe she's going to realize just how strong, capable and worthy of love she is by the end.

Man, I’m happy that shin wakabayashi (wonder egg priority director) is still talking about the show on twitter, commending the art and writing… that show has been Very soured in the minds of most fans but like. I still think it’s good and I honestly like what the special/final do does… the writing is still interesting and *real* feeling, especially with the lack of any kind of holistic conclusion to everyone’s arcs.

#if u think ep11 ruins the show. #remember that like. it is a story being narrated by a detached adult man with major holes and gaps in it about a girl he denies humanity.

1000 followers gift, part 4: morning dove reshade and teeny tots collection part 2! [download - sfs | mf folder]

it's finally here: the final gift for my 1000 followers weekend! and it's a two in one deal!

over the last year i have come to realise that i really like making two things: reshades, and toddler stuff. it's so satisfying watching the environment my sims are in, and the whole mood of the game, change with the click and drag of a few buttons. also, toddlers are really cute and there isn't nearly enough stuff out there for them.

part 4 has two things: my second reshade preset ever, morning dove, as well as my first every clothing conversions--and for toddlers too! i have received many, many questions about what reshade preset i use, so this is it!

update 10-4-23: fixed issue with weird squares/rectangles on ep05 dress holiday and ep05 vest bowtie, please redownload and replace the original meshes!

part 4a: morning dove

previews feature all effects except fog, artistic vignette, & chromatic abberation. these effects however are present in most of my cc posts, so if you look at my previews i believe you can see them 😅

if you've been following my builds/gameplay for awhile, then you probably recognise this preset. i use it in almost every screenshot of mine, and many people have asked for it, so here it finally is! it is based on @kindlespice's dove 2.0 preset but with a lot of tweaking to make it more versatile in ts2. this preset comes with a number of different shortcuts to enable/disable certain effects: Alt + 4 -> mxao Alt + 6 -> adaptive fog + canvas fog Shift + 2 -> ring dof and gdof Alt + 5 -> artistic vignette Alt + 7 -> marty mcfly dof Alt + 8 -> chromatic abberration Alt + 9 -> directional anti-aliasing the basic goal of morning dove is a preset that looks good in any style--maxis match, realistic, or clay!

this particular download just makes me very happy. i love ts2 toddlers, they'll always be the best in the franchise in my eyes, and just look at those happy lil faces! also, milo stylo is being milo stylo and looking so damn cute. there never seems to be enough toddler formalwear (imo) so it just makes me really happy that i was able to make my own.

these are my first ever clothing conversions, i did my best but they're not perfect, so there may be clipping and gaps especially around the shoulders of gp11 dress flower. i apologise for this, i really tried but didn't manage to fix it 😔

well, i guess that's it then! it's the end of a long gift-filled weekend. and also, the start of a very long break.

my final exams will be starting in about two weeks and ending around november; they are the most important ones i have ever faced and i cannot afford to lose focus. after that will be exam after exam, as i enter tertiary education.

if you still wanna chat with me/hear how i'm doing you could probably join the simscord by @skittlessims, i'm a junior moderator on there now so i will still be semi-active on my break. also, if i do find the time to post cc anymore, it will probably be on there lol.

the sims has always been a sort of escapism for me, a way to pretend that the trials of real life don't exist. but in the last few months i've felt myself drifting farther and farther from it. i need to focus on my studies and stay focused on my life goals.

the future of this blog is still uncertain. i have cc queued up until june--leftovers from my original break, stuff i finished up, requests i got during my holidays--but after that, there probably won't be any more until i come back... which could be anywhere from 9 months to 9 years, tbh, with my current mood. until then, consider this blog on semi-permanent hiatus.

there are so many of you who have supported this blog from day one, who have always stuck with me even when i'm not at my best or when misunderstandings occur. i cannot thank you enough for your continued support and love. the last year has been a difficult time for me: losing pets, friends, and in general, my mental health. this extra-long gift weekend is for you--a thank you for the over 365 days of kindness you have shown me.

i am sorry for this, but for now, i am going to have to leave you again. thank you for the love, and i hope you enjoy the cc while it lasts. until next time,

Up until this point, their interaction had been going smoothly. But I think it’s important that Vegas did lash out. If he would’ve just turned away and said nothing, it would not have driven the point home for Pete that what he’s just said is 100% true. 

I’ve talked about Vegas’s psychology a lot in this post, but I don’t necessarily think this moment is meant to tell us much more about who Vegas is as a person. We, as an audience, have already gathered what Vegas’s whole problem is: his father abuses him, he hates himself, he’s never good enough for anyone, he’s lonely...basically, he’s become a shell of his former self all for a guy who doesn’t care for his efforts (whether or not they succeed or fail). 

We’ve pieced all of this together, so for it to be about Vegas’s characterization would feel a bit redundant. No, I think this moment is intended to show us Pete both seeing and acknowledging how alone Vegas is. As an audience, we need that acknowledgment for it to feel earned by the time we get to this scene:

I know one of the primary gripes about VP’s relationship is that Pete gave in too quickly or that the entire progression was too rushed. But realistically, I think we’re meant to fill in the gaps in the timeline with even more scenes like the blood type one. We can infer that quite a few days have passed by the state of Pete’s wounds, so it makes sense that Vegas and Pete would’ve had quite a few casual encounters to further solidify where Vegas stands. Pete knows now that Vegas has softened towards him, and he can at least infer that it’s got a lot to do with the “they, themselves, suck” conversation they had in Ep11. 

The bottom line is that Pete is always watching while Vegas breaks down this episode. Even despite all the horrific things Vegas has done to him, he sees the root cause. For Pete to do that shows just how incredibly empathetic he is. While Pete alone cannot make Vegas’s worthlessness go away, he can show him that he is worth it to him, for this moment at least. 

Even if it is too fast, the poeticism of their plot is too perfect to discount.

New episodes of this show never fail to drag me back into its fandom, but this episode in particular, S2 EP6, hyped me up for the future of the show. Using information about past uploads, I’ve predicted when we may expect to see some of these episodes for the ladder part of S2! This is something I did for fun, just wanted to share. :)

RELEASE PREDICTIONS :

I’ve gone back and looked at the release dates for previous episodes to map out possible months, and even specific days we could expect a new episode. Again, these are just my predictions. This isn’t me complaining about the wait for the new episodes, I am happy to wait for a show of good quality like this one.

The S2 dates paint a better picture of the schedule the team is going for as of now, so I’ll mainly refer back to them. We aren’t using S1 episode 8, because that was finished ages ago and just released recently.

5/6 of the current S2 episodes were uploaded on a Saturday.

4/6 of the current S2 episodes are more or less 2 months apart.

Looking good. It seems like S2 will be divided into two sections. S2A, and S2B. Meaning there will likely be a waiting period in between. S1 was not cut up like this, so we don’t have a reference for what this could look like. For now, let’s go off of the break between S1 and S2.

S1 was left temporarily unfinished after the release of episode 7 on October 31st, 2021.

S2 began on July 30th, 2022. There is no way for us to tell if this gap was intentional, or if it was slightly altered by the delay of episode 8.

But we’re going with it. This is an 8 month gap.

The team loves to upload on Halloween, and I am willing to bet that S2A will end on October 31st.

Book readers have said that they're all actually in their early twenties.

Like, no older than 23 (last I heard, they were 22)... the production aged up all the characters... and they're actually still actively attending university in the books, so.

It just seems unbelievable that they would be this high up and involved in the mafia to the extent they are in the show, at the young age they actually are in the books... (but whatever, intelligence, logic, and nuance have never been Daemi's strong suit)

People have also speculated that show!Kinn is a couple years older than show!Porsche; maybe in his late twenties, 26/27-29, but in the books he's 1-2 years older than Porsche...

Yeah, I haven’t read the books, but I’ve heard they were in college there. The show would definitely have a different vibe if they kept that, haha

In the series we only know three of the main characters ages, right? - Porsche was definitely 23 in the first episode and turned 24 in ep11; Chay is (was, aw) going to apply for university making him 17/18, and Kim is a senior at the same school putting him at 21/22.

I could see Kinn being either the same age as Porsche or a few years older, but I don’t think he’d be out of his 20s yet - especially if BOC was trying to keep the spirit of the couples’ age differences despite making some of them older. (And we know by the gaps between Jeff and Kim’s ages and Apo and Porsche’s that they aren’t basing them on the actors).

If Kinn is in his early 20s, then he would definitely be seen as in over his head by everyone else in the mafia! And I would be:

1) Extra impressed that he’s held things together as well as he has. (Will I suspend my disbelief to admire Kinn? Absolutely - I already do that with all of the characters and their mad mafia skills! Their general dumbassery helps balance things out 😌)

2) Extra suspicious of Korn, for putting Kinn in that role so early… Maybe he thought it would be easier to maintain power this way? Like, if he overthrew his own dad in his 30s, after he had time to gain experience and followers, maybe ‘stepping down’ when Kinn is in his early 20s is his way of trying to avoid that, while also making himself invaluable to Kinn as a mentor…

It’s ready!! And it only took me (checks calendar) three and a half months. Well...really more like a couple of weeks and a lot of setting it aside in-between. The more toddler conversions I do, the more I figure out about them. This started with @platinumaspiration’s 4t2 Sweater Playful conversion. (Cottage Living agaaaain!!) Toddler separates are not much of a thing (on account of the thumbnail issue), so I added @storylegacysims Cuffed Jeans and some TS4 BG canvas slip-on shoes which I think were originally for kids. Why can’t tops be as easy to convert as bottoms and shoes??

They’re PU, categorized as Everyday. I did all ten EAxis sweater colors, with coordinating jeans and shoes. No swatch. Maybe later? I’m also working on a de-foxed/de-cowed/de-clouded/de-landscaped/de-patched just plain old sweater texture, so expect recolors in a future post.

Note: The polycount is on the high side, at 3741, but that should be fine for most modern computers.

All the jumpsuitness cuteness, now in baby size! Silliness aside, here’s the BU version of my 4t2 conversion of the Cottage Living toddler jumpsuit.

No shoes, because it’s not like they’re walking around or going anywhere. The swatch is the same as the toddler version, the original 11 EAxis swatches, with the ankle carrot removed. (I don’t think I mentioned the ankle carrot [like an applique of a carrot on one ankle] in the previous post, but it was weird and it had to go.) They’re set as everyday only, for both sexes, and you need Chris Hatch’s mod to use them. You can find it in this post (scroll down or use find) or you can get @creesims alternate object versions.

My first 4t2 mesh conversion! Or...the first I’ve finished. This is the EP11 toddler jumpsuit. Cottage Living has the cutest stuff and I’m stunned that no one had converted this yet.

It comes in the original 11 TS4 colors and has white EAxis sandals. The gap at the shin has been fixed. There’s a little bit of clipping when they’re sitting, but it’s not too bad. I’ll also be doing a version without the shoulder frills and a baby version, which you can see in my WIP tag. Expect recolors and texture conversions too. I really love it and want it in all the colors. It’s categorized for PU everyday.

Recently, I started seeing this post floating around and it got me thinking.

How old is MePhone?

This post ended up pretty long so I put it under a read more, haha.

TLDR: Due to the lack of information, I couldn’t find a clear answer, however with a lot of assumptions, I concluded he’s 3 years old!

I suppose to figure that out we’d have to figure out: 1. How much time passes between each episode; 2. How much time passed between seasons; And for future reference: 3. Whether the other S2 episodes (that we haven’t seen yet) are happening alongside S3 or after it.

I decided to handle each problem individually as to not lose my mind. :P

The first thing I could think of was the asks Taylor has answered in the past (here and here) but they boil down to “Unless it’s important, we never really thought or cared about it”. 

Ok, that’s... a little disappointing. But you know what? Whatever! I’ll overthink things then! I can work with this.

So based on how the characters talk in season 1, the episodes seem to be happening on the date of release (with the exception of episode 18 in s1, of course). So I went and looked at the release dates of every episode of season 1 and calculated how long it was in-universe - A year and seven months. (I realized I could’ve just looked at the first and last episode after I finished. oops.) In season 1 ep 14 he says he’s just a year old. (I would’ve put a screenshot here but the episode has no captions! The time stamp is 3:37.)

If we were to assume he means exactly a year old (which is likely, based on season 2), that means that by the end of season one, he’s a year and 5 months old.

Now, onto season two where things get complicated.

The last time I remember dates being mentioned in s2 is in ep6 where MePhone makes a Halloween based challenge and MePad says he’s off by “over a month”.

Yea, that doesn’t really narrow it down. So I went and looked at the release dates up until this episode. Here’s the list (date/month/year):

Ep1: 02 April 2013 Ep2: 02 May 2013 Ep3: 25 June 2013 Ep4: 23 August 13 Ep5: 03 November 2013 Ep6: 02 February 2014

As you can see, the gap increased over time. That doesn’t really help!! Like at all!!

If we were to go with the ‘Episodes exactly a month apart’ formula like in season 1, ep6 would’ve been in September so that’s not right. We can only make assumptions but I’ll save that for later.

Episode 9 implies that there are deadlines as to when episodes need to come out as he mentions a schedule:

So I’m pretty confident in saying that ep10 is happening a little after ep9. Maybe an hour at most? But I think that’s a bit of a reach, since there’d probably be more on the white board if so much time had passed.

And episode 14 is happening right after ep13 (......obviously.)

He also says that episodes 7 and 8 fucked up his schedule? But the eliminations still happened (I’m assuming on time) so like. I don’t know.

............And here is where the canon information ends and my assumptions begin.

Since there’s a schedule, then there’s probably an equal amount of time between the episodes. Based on MePad’s line and episode 5’s release date, we can assume ep6 takes place in December. And if we were to assume that episode 1 is happening on the second of April, then there’s been 9 months between these episodes. That means there’s a month and a half between each episode! Here’s my timeline (date/month/year):

Ep1: 02 April 2013 Ep2: 17 May 2013 Ep3: 02 July 2013 Ep4: 17 August 2013 Ep5: 02 October 2013 Ep6: 17 December 2013 Ep7: 02 February 2014 Ep8: 17 March 2014 Ep9&10: 02 May 2014 Ep11: 17 June 2014 Ep12: 02 August 2014 Ep13&14: 17 September 2014

So if MePhone was 1 year and 6 months old in November of 2012 then at episode 13&14 he’s 3 years and 5 months old!

As for season 3, we have absolutely no point of reference. Not for how much time passes between episodes or when it started. So unfortunately, for that I have nothing. Maybe that’ll change with the following episodes though? <:3c

All of this is ignoring the time he spent living with Cobs, as we have no way of calculating that. MePhone saying he’s just a year old in season 1 makes sense since he had erased those memories and likely started the show immediately.
