Garcia Flynn: “There's a room at Mason Industries, it's in the basement, almost forgotten, but Lucy showed it to me one time. It’s full of documents, photos, letters, all the times that other Lucy's and other Garcia's found each other, some with time travel and Rittenhouse involved, others without any of those elements. It was her way of telling me, of showing me, that we belong together, in every way, in any time and place. There were some common times: 1937, 2014, 1893, 1912, and some common places: São Paulo, Paris, New York, Chicago, Manchester, NJ, and Stanford. Lots of accounts show us meeting in a bar, and the journal is a common theme.” Flynn cleared his throat. “We... we are married in almost all accounts.” At this, Lucy suspected he was blushing, although she couldn’t see him clearly in the dark. “Sometimes there are children, sometimes not. The other Lucy said that we were once one being that became separated, and this was why we always seem drawn to each other.”

Garcy
41. Don't look back
The New England night is rank with cold, with the briny scent of the distant sea, with woodsmoke and creosote, tar and turpentine, hay and mud. Lucy stands with her arms crossed, her coat drawn tightly over her shoulders, staring out at the dark woods that stretch endlessly beyond this simple farmhouse on the edge of Boston -- in the year 1880, a fast-growing industrial city, thronged with largely-Irish immigrants, strung up with newfangled electric lights and trolley cars, steamships moored at the docks, but still straining at the old Pilgrim bones beneath, forced to accept all this modernity at a blow. In other circumstances, she would almost like the chance to look around. Not, however, as if that is going to happen. Now or ever.
She shivers harder. She can still feel the wind cutting right through her, and surely it's her imagination that it's not just a figure of speech, that she's becoming more and more insubstantial, never-existing, by the moment. She feels dreamy, almost comfortable, the sort of lulling reverie you slip into when you're on the brink of freezing to death and it feels downright pleasant. She looks down at her hands, tries to see if she can see through them to the ground. It would be just, perhaps. It would be the only outcome.
Just then, there's a particularly loud commotion in the farmhouse behind her, and she turns around sharply. She hasn't been paying attention to the low-level clamor -- the shouts, the shots, the smashing, the screaming, the sort that would attract the neighbors if there were any in range. As it is, there aren't, and that too is all by design. She stands here, a cold and merciless goddess, listens to men die inside, and feels... nothing. Her mother has, in the end, done her job too well. Carol Preston dutifully raised her daughters in Rittenhouse, trained Lucy to be the heiress, the crown princess, and now it's playing out exactly as she intended, with one devastating little twist. It's Rittenhouse dying in there, all of them, or at least Lucy so badly hopes. All her ancestors, her great-grandfathers and uncles and whatever else, and that means that when they get back to the present day (if they get back to the present day), there is a very good chance that she will never have existed at all. Will be a revenant, a time-ghost, a relic from another timeline who has nothing left at all, no root to her old life, and not even anyone else's memories. Hell, she might just wink out on the spot, a twisted paradox too contradicted to exist. Is it worth it? Can anything possibly be worth this?
Yes, Lucy thinks. Her face is stone, her eyes are dry, she does not weep a single tear. Yes, it is.
At last, the banging and blasting falls silent. Ruthlessly effective as he is, Garcia Flynn is far from subtle. There's a long moment in which Lucy panics, thinking that they managed to strike a lucky blow, that he's gone too, but then he emerges, tall and dark and shadowed, his suit sleeves spattered in blood. He looks at her and doesn't say a word. Just goes to his knees in front of her (even so, he's still almost as tall as she is) and holds out the gun, a medieval knight pledging his sword to the service of his lady. At last, his voice half a whisper in the wind, he says, "It's done."
Lucy shivers from head to toe. She looks down at him and doesn't answer. Yes, her ancestors might all be dead now, but there's still no guarantee that Rittenhouse has been erased, root and branch. One of them might have left a pregnant wife somewhere, or a secret mistress with a love child, or all the other ways history contorts around on itself to protect its continuity. She could have done all this, live with the knowledge of it forever, and still failed. Flynn might have gone in there to kill her whole family, but Lucy is the one who brought him here.
(What would she have done, if they hadn't found each other? Who would she be? Carol's perfect little Rittenhouse princess, just as planned? Not this, this Salem witch, hands dripping with blood just as much as Flynn's. It's only on his because she asked him to do it, and he agreed. That's love, she supposes. A twisted and dark and desperate version, but still love. He is the only thing she has.)
"Flynn." Lucy doesn't recognize her own voice. "Please. Get me out of here. Get me out of here."
Flynn considers, then nods once. He lifts her halfway, arms around her waist; as ever, her weight is completely negligible to him. It's going to be a long walk back to the Mothership, where Rufus is waiting nervously. When they get in, the jump very well might not work, as long as Lucy is in there. The space-time continuum might reject traveling back with an alien entity, an erased object. She might have to get out and stay in 1880 forever, the price of removing Rittenhouse in the present. Is she ready to do that? Can she stand it? Or will she just simply evanesce away?
"Flynn," she starts again, shaking, her face buried in his shoulder. He walks quickly, but somehow without hurrying. The wool of his jacket smells of lamp-oil and fresh blood. "Flynn, I'm not going to be able to come back, not if I don't -- "
"Yes." He sounds calm, certain, cold as the snow. "You're going to be fine, Lucy. Rufus will figure it out. You'll come home with us."
"But back there -- " Lucy twists, tries to peer over his shoulder, to look back at the dark farmhouse where Rittenhouse has, pray God, finally met its utmost end. "If you -- "
"Shh." Flynn's grip tightens on her. "Don't look back, Lucy. It's all right. Trust me. I would never do anything to hurt you."
It's a deeply ironic utterance, considering what he just did to her whole family (on her express invitation, but still) and how their relationship started, but she does. She trusts him. She holds onto him with both hands. Don't look back. Like Lot's wife fleeing from Sodom, unable to resist the curse, transmogrified into salt. There are tears on her cheeks. She tastes it on her lips. She doesn't know who she's crying for. It seems impossible for it to be her.
Don't look back.
Lucy buries her face in Flynn's neck again, and does not.

📞 - a character others dislike but you don't?
Elise has gained more appreciation over time, but you still get people who think she's to blame for everything wrong with '06. She was a decent if underdeveloped character who simply wasn't used in the story that well, and anyone who thinks turning her into a Not-Sally is the only way to fix her isn't trying.
There's also Zor and Marine, both of whom I will always defend. Isn't it wild how I can barely remember anything from The End's three minute tough guy Reddit copypasta, yet everything Zor says is solid gold... shout out to IDW for missing the point and making him an unironic tryhard like every other villain in the comic. As for Marine, people act as though her character development never happened, which isn't helped by Flynn being one of those very people, and I don't understand why they give her flak for her stereotypical accent, yet make no such complaints about Bunnie.
For a couple of non-Sonic examples: King Sombra kind of went through the same arc as Elise in retrospect. As in, nowadays he has more open fans, but back when he made his debut, he received a disproportionate amount of flak for being a mostly silent villain, and the way he was used. I personally appreciated what they were going for with him, mainly cause of how they conveyed his Crazy Prepared defenses and the like, and honestly, by the time FiM concluded, I think he ended up better off than certain other villains lmao.
And of course, Moneybags. Not counting the first game (cause he didn't exist yet), I don't consider it a true Spyro experience if Winnie the Shit doesn't pop up in increasingly improbable locations to make deals in exchange for, *ahem*, a small fee. He also has some of the best lines. ("What are you going to do, sue me?")
♠️ - favourite protagonist?
Gex is unironically a better written character than everyone in Frontiers and IDW put together. This realisation makes me want to drink tap water at Jerry Garcia's.
Tails has always been my main bro out of the Sonic good guys, cause of how smart he is and how much he wants to help. :D It's also why I'm vocal about how much I despise it when fans double down on reducing the franchise to Just Furry DBZ due to super forms and whatnot, since it means Tails and other characters not named Sonic/Shadow/Silver are guaranteed to be treated even more like they're not good for anything meaningful. >:|
Then there's Spyro of course, which I know will be considered ironic to some given my complex feelings on Sonic, but truth be told, Spyro isn't really that similar to Sonic beyond some snark. He does admittedly act like a dude with tude in the first game, but it's clear that he's younger in that one. From the second game onward, where he's slightly older, he's considerably more chill... at least compared to Bubsy and many others from the 90's. And speaking of, despite his dialogue consisting entirely of WOAH, I respect Crash as well, since it was the bandicoot that got little me into the world of video games.
And many things change, but my fondness for Fluttershy will never die. Just as I have a preference for funny robot-loving villains who nonetheless remain a legit serious threat instead of being a joke, I have another preference for kindhearted quiet characters... which is why I also enjoy Trip... and Tikal... look, we all have our types, I'm sure you can sympathise. ;P
🕷️ - a character you feel is underrated?
The Hard-Boiled Heavies have mostly been pushed aside since Mania came out (aside from that one IDW story, but that's not a blessing), and it makes me madder than YouTubers who pretend they're mad because there are villains with dialogue who have less personality than these guys. They're so much fun, and despite all of them having the same Egg Robo template, their designs remain distinct from each other, even in silhouette form.
I also took to Ariem early on. Like the Heavies, "underrated" refers to general lack of fandom buzz compared to other characters, since although she appears to be quite liked, the acknowledgement given to her is somewhat limited due to her being stuck in an Android-only game for the time being. Some people also have an obsession with comparing her unfavourably to either Sage or Lanolin, for reasons I can probably guess in both cases. Me? I love her design, and her interactions with Cream and Knuckles are cute. :> I know it's not likely, but I hope she appears elsewhere so that she can be brought to more fans' attention... provided she doesn't get IDW'd.
Finally, a more complicated example: Metal Sonic. Now yes, he's very popular and beloved, and remains so to this day, but during the last couple of years, I feel I've been seeing two growing sides in the community when it pertains to him: the side who loves Neo Metal Sonic, and believe he's only a threat in that form like Flynn apparently believes (given how he often turns regular Metal into a jobber), and the side who consider him lame or essentially worthless because of his minimal characterization compared to others. He might not say much, and he might be a hedgehog-shaped tool of Eggman's ambition rather than a complete person of his own, but I believe there's a lot you can do with Metal that wouldn't require turning him into Usurper the Elf Shoes. OVA Metal ain't S-tier for nothing.

Wtnv quick rundown - 35 - Lazy Day
I promise I will do these forever, until WTNV ends or I die, whichever comes first.
No one has seen the trees this week. Hopefully they'll come back soon. Welcome to Night Vale.
The heat is unusually strong in NV today, making everyone feel lethargic and lazy, including Cecil himself. Others mentioned as going about listlessly include: Frances Donaldson (of the antiques mall), all reporters in town, Pamela Winchell (who can apparently create portals mid-air), people's entire bodies just giving up and causing them to die in the street and gravity itself which causes things/people to start floating.
The only one still feeling active is Carlos, who is mowing his whistling lawn, organising his closet and cleaning his gutters when he starts to float. How Cecil knows he's doing any of this is a mystery (or because of Cecil's special abilities~). It's possible that Carlos was unaffected due to not being from NV, but that's just my personal theory.
Intern Maureen makes Cecil aware that the sun is going out, he doesn't seem to have the energy/ability to really care though.
Eventually this laziness stops and everyone goes back to normal, including the dead people suddenly raising back up and being fine.
Weather: "Mijn Manier" by Brainpower, youtube.com/mcbrainpower
The Man ITTJ was seen behind NV's Taco Bell, next to the constantly ringing payphone, plucking insects out of the air and putting them in his suitcase.
Even though nobody could remember much about him, they still received a stamp on their 'alert citizen' card for reporting him. Five stamps means stop sign immunity for a year.
Jake Garcia has filled up three cards and thus 'earned the right to disappear forever'. His family claim they don't actually miss him that much, really. Apparently they want you to be alert but not TOO alert.
The SSP have an mascot, Barks Ennui. His appearance has not been declassified.
Tamika Flynn has organised a child militia of survivors of the summer reading programme. She carries the severed hand of a librarian on a string around her neck. She warns against StrexCorps 'Smiling God'.
'When asked to clarify, she challenged our reporter to a hundred days of hand to hand combat, which our reporter declined by running away screaming, pursued by hundreds of battle-hardened children.'
The Vague Yet Menacing Government Agency reminds us that reality is an illusion.
Thanksgiving in NV involves grovelling to the Brown Stone Spire.
It seems StrexCorp doesn't entirely trust how the radio works and encourages everyone to distrust the previously trusted.
John Peters (you know, the farmer) and Flakey O's are partnering up to create 'imaginary corn flakes'. Miranda Yesby, of the new board of Flakey O's directors, states they have no plans to do a big viral marketing campaigns (such as a transdimensional pyramid). She also has 'large, claw-like paws'.
Carlos had a busy day and is looking forward to a nap. It seems that Cecil is looking forward to joining him.
Stay tuned next for a keening howl, a scratch at the door, a hood falling suddenly over your face, and a delicious roasted squash recipe your family will just love. Good night, Night Vale. Good night.

I have such complicated feelings about Derek this whole episode ughhhh
For one, he went through something ridiculously traumatic and most of the team cared more about how he treated them than how he felt. He obviously went through something horrifically traumatic, on the verge of being killed and watching two people die in front of him while he was powerless, that's fucking awful even with no context of the trauma he had connected to it. I feel like that would be obvious to most people, especially profilers and just grown ass adults who have trauma from viewing deaths themselves
Especially buck wild that Penelope wouldn't be more empathetic towards him, not just because of their relationship but because he LITERALLY SPENT ALL OF THE TIME TWO EPISODES AGO COMFORTING HER BECAUSE SHE WAS BREAKING DOWN AFTER SEEING SOMEONE BE MURDERED and it wasn't even someone she knew. Yes, he's a profiler and views these things more and would naturally react less extremely than her, and yes I guess he shouldn't have yelled at her, but like come on its weird to me she responds the way she does in light of how he treats her in the same situation during exit wounds
On the other hand, some of the team empathizes with him. Emily definitely does the best, and Rossi doesn't hurt as much, but hotch definitely tried to help in his own stand-offish way because he knew Morgan wouldn't respond well to confrontation. And he has to take his frustrations out on him even when he's just trying to help
Yeah Morgan did his paper work but I don't see how outside of that the team was expressly "there for him" when Hailey died. I get he's passionate but it seems so fucked up that he would throw that experience back in hotchs face to get what he wants, especially putting the teams behavior towards him after foyet on a pedestal when in reality while they tried to not hurt him, i wouldn't say any of them really had his back, especially when Derek was the one openly criticizing him the whole time and arguing with him
It's also not fair to compare hotch killing foyet to Derek killing Flynn in my opinion. I think Derek compares it like it's the same situation, but I honestly think it was kind of fucked up for Derek to kill him? Hotch was angry when he killed foyet, but i truly believe he did it because he knew if foyet got back up he wouldn't stop until he killed Jack. I don't think Flynn threatened dereks life at all. He was just pissed and wanted revenge on him, which is not the same. Also the fact foyett killed hotchs first love and long-term wife while Flynn killed a detective and his sister that Derek had met like a week ago lol
there's just something a little gross to me about the show trying to make it seem like morgan has to much to apologize for when he hasn't dont anything wrong, or at least not anything that isnt understandable. bc yeah kajsdhg jhe just went through a fucking trauma... he watched a dad get murdered in front of his daughter (the same shit that happened to him when he was a kid) and now the killer's taken the kid and who knows how long she has before she's killed. akjsdhlg seems a little stressful lmao makes sense that he'd be a little snippy.
but nooo instead lets make light of the situation and laugh about how he's upset. or in the company episode lets yell at him for being selfish and remind him that he's entirely responsible for finding his cousin. or in exit wounds when he's just trying to find out if garcia saw anything important, he's actually completely out of line and being totally inappropriate by... asking her question s
penelope reid and jj all act like he's being completely ridiculous and ignroing the shit he went through like a couple hours ago. hotch and emily at least seem a little more empathetic, which is nice, but considering that morgan's closer w penelope reid and jj it seems particularly fucked up that they're the ones who don't seem to give a shit about him or his feelings. especially since he's so attentive to their mental wellbeing.
i agree that morgan crossed a line when he threw the foyet thing in hotch's face, but truthfully i'm not that surprised. considering how morgan acted during that whole thing, it makes sense to me that he'd be insensitive about it. morgan was the one who was openly antagonistic towards hotch during foyet: questioning every decision, doubting every action, etc. and i think its suuuuuper interesting that morgan sees nothing wrong w the way he handled that. especially bc we know he's capable of being supportive (even in cases where the person is being an idiot about it, like reid in memoriam), its fascinating that morgan can look back on how he treated hotch and say that he had his back. like... if that was morgan being supportive, it makes me wonder what morgan actually wanted to do in that situation
morgan killing flynn and hotch killing foyet aren't the same at all.... but there's so much different about both situations that idek if you could even really compare them. foyet was an unsub whose personal mission was to make hotch as miserable as possible; flynn wasn't after morgan at all, even in the end. foyet said "i surrender" and hotch continued to beat him to death w his bare hands; morgan said "if you point your gun at them (the hostages) i'll kill you" and flynn raised his gun and morgan shot. hotch knew that there was no convincing foyet to stop; morgan didnt even try, even when flynn was having a change of heart. foyet wanted to see what hotch would do, how far hotch would go, what hotch was capable of; flynn wanted to die and knew morgan would kill him. i dont think morgan killing flynn was as emotional or dramatic as hotch killing foyet, but i dont think it was as justified either
overall, i just dont think this episode was written well. it was suppposed to be a morgan ep, but it was more about some random white guy. nearly everyone belittled morgan the whole time and the most compelling part of the ep was this little girl taking on this guy by herself (which then they completely ignored so jj could have her stupid little speech). jakshflkad i dont usually like criminal minds two parters/finales anyway, so idk if i like this more or less than the others, but theyre definitely episodes i typically skip on a rewatch

Honestly, right now I don't have anything else to say about the last quarter of this episode that isn't incoherent sobbing. I need to gather myself and then I'll be able to write the thousand and one metas that describe my emotions about Garcia Flynn (and Lucy Preston, and Garcia Flynn AND Lucy Preston...but mostly Garcia Flynn atm)

Ok so! First some more stuff for the characters we do get to see the counterparts of in the episode. Fun facts: This episode has the least true side characters in it, only Norm and Vivian Garcia-Shapiro. It is also the only in-universe au where there is no real family relationship between any of the Flynn-Fletchers(That we know of. This version of Phineas and Ferb just seem to be "Partners in crime" per say) and the boys don't know Perry at all. Pain!
Interestingly, this version of Phineas and Ferb strike me as not so much "this belongs in a museum and we'll fight you over it" as the original Indiana Jones(I have only seen the first movie I am not sure if this is correct) as much as they just want to find out and find as much stuff as they can. Somewhere along the way this version of Doof got in their way enough(probably on purpose a few times) and went against what they wanted enough that it turned into a straight up rivalry. While they're all for healthy exploration rivalry, Doof's just taken it too far too often. Just as inventive as all their other counterparts, but it's something that surprisingly doesn't come up as often while treasure hunting. Because of this it's not too much of a defining trait for them. Also more then willing to bring about twenty people with them on one expedition. Which is good bc they've got a whole gang of side characters that are. dealing with stuff.
This version of Perry doesn't know the boys, but he is keeping with them and keeping them safe bc darn it he loves them. He doesn't really know why, but it feels right. Other then that we've seen that he's pretty much the same.
This version of Isabella just feels like reboot Carmen Sandeigo but better. Doof didn't really have anything against her, she was just the easiest target all things considered. She would steal everything that deserved stealing and didn't belong to people who honestly deserved it or was too historical. She both gains and loses some of her morals on this when she ends up a permanent member of the adventuring group. Because like. they're a group of ten year olds with a whole lot of skill, lack of trained morals, terrible influences, and no one to go against them besides like five teens that got caught up in this making sure they don't die and also looting things. Chaos.
This version of Buford and Baljeet are like. Extra interesting. We've got literally pretty much nothing on them besides they both started caring about the group like pretty much right away and Isabella definitely made them get like. Actual adventuring gear and come with them all the time. They complained once and no one was fooled.
This version of Candace is extra interesting to me. She's a reporter for a newspaper Linda runs, and she's arguably just as good at the whole adventurer thing as the rest of the group in the episode. She just never gets proof. Yet she still is considered a good reporter as far as we can tell(she's trusted enough and not fired yet), even if there's more then an air of disbelief in her conversation with Linda. But, considering she's a counterpart to our typical Candace, chances are she's obsessed with proving the boys do these adventures, but never proves it. So how exactly is she considered a good one? Well, that ties into my version of Stacy for this.
Stacy is technically a reporter too, for her mom's newspaper, a "rival" to Linda's. She and Candace were friends when they were younger, and while as far as the heads of said newspapers go, they aren't anymore, Stacy is canonically better at keeping secrets then you'd think. She did articles on historical places and temples mostly, even if she did some guesswork for a lot of the areas. She and Candace would make sure to meet up or at least have a conversation once a month, even when it wasn't exactly easy, if just to keep up and trade certain article ideas that got shot down. It needs stating now that I don't know how newspapers work. Ok. As Candace basically got more and more obsessed with the boys being her big story, Stacy started giving her some of her more adventurous stories. Much as Candace objected for a number of reasons, Stacy wasn't having it, for pretty much the same reasons. And as Candace got more and more into it, Stacy stopped being trusted with more dangerous articles and events, until Ginger got almost all of them and she's just allowed to do interviews and stuff. She ends up coming along with Ginger(and consequentially this version of the fireside girls) and coming up with stuff for Candace based on what she has that Ginger wasn't assigned. Candace feels pretty bad about it but Stacy(for more complex I think there's a text limit on asks reasons) isn't letting her apologize or anything. She came up with the idea after all.
Jeremy was supposed to be traveling with his family, but for reasons he got very caught up with the gang. Suffice to say there was a whole thing with Norm and now Doof has Suzy but also like. He doesn't know. The most they've got is a few things Katie and Holly remember. So he is going along with them. At least it seems about as reasonable as an ancient tomb ransom note can be. Also partially bc holy fuck you guys are like ten this isn't Danville you WILL DIE!!!!! Also Doof has no clue who he's dealing with. But she likes Norm so she's staying. I've got a lot more for him but it's so hard to explain. Jeremy Johnson my beloved off the shits sometimes.
Vanessa is still Doof and Charlene's daughter, but she basically has to sneak out of both of their houses to do anything. Charlene owns a very well-known pin making company, so she's always having guests and people over, and Vanessa has to work with that, and Doof has her over in like a catacomb but is still overprotective and wont let her even explore the cool places. There was a situation while she was sneaking around and exploring one of the places Doof was camped up in where she ended up dragged with the group through like. death traps. And ended up very bonded to them only to realize that the person a good third of the group either has or will have a personal vendetta with is her dad. The group basically stole a as goth as a teen could be at the time without looking insane girl from her dad on the grounds of "you can do fun adventures and steal treasure and hopefully not die with us"
Coltrane decided to go with them on some of their adventures too because one: the same reasons as Vanessa. Two: sorta the same reasons as Jeremy. Three: there is so much going on. its fun sometimes. sometimes.
Jenny is with them to keep Django safe bc he is her brother and no I don't care how cool they are or how pretty and nice to draw the places are this is super dangerous and at least let me make sure you don't die I couldn't live with myself if you died! and also very partially because she is collecting poisonous bugs from them for things.
Monty is literally the same as canon but there's no "forbidden" part to him and Vanessa bc by the time they meet up there's like. Everything going on. They don't have time for that shit.
The version of the fireside girls(the firesearch girls which isn't the best name but there's symbolism reasons) are partially there because they need to get stories and figure out what they're doing, and because they need a leader. Gretchen and Adyson both tried and ended up panicking when everything went wrong once and one of them almost died, and now they're too terrified. They want to ask Isabella to be their leader, but considering everything, they aren't sure if she'd want to. (She agrees) Also they get a "patch" or at least the equivalent of it for each area or story they get through. They basically just pin jewelry, bits of treasure or stuff you can only find in that area to their clothes and ribbons. Also I know the timeline doesn't completely add up but I think they inspired Miss Fireside to found the Fireside Girls bc it could barely add up and that's all it takes. And bc people forget about Melissa(the Little Spark) a lot and she can be this version of her.
Django is there for art and friendship. and bc adventure and he wanted to.
Irving is trying to also make articles on the gang. He has worse luck then Candace.
Wendy, Mishti, and a bunch of one-off characters are there for literally it's a whole rant plot reasons but also to adventure, steal, commit crimes, and tease half the gang bc holy shiz guys rly? This guys a moron why have you not managed to take him out by now.
I think that's everyone I had a whole lot on without spoilers or limit breaking. Sry this took so long to write out. I love this au of mine. Also the Flynn-Fletchers end up a family and with Perry bc the canon version of this au is a jerk i love it
Please do not apologizing for sending me these my brain is too fried to come up with a proper response to any of this but I am looking very hard at it (especially whatever’s going with Stacy). Feel free to elaborate on anything you couldn’t fit in here

51. "There are worse ways to die." for fanmade Timeless season 4 Garcy.
51. "There are worse ways to die."
The forward hold of the RMS Carpathia is cold, crowded, echoing with the bangs of the steamer's engines and the turbulent, icy ocean outside, and dark as a starless sky. A darkness that Lucy doesn't think she was truly aware of until now, despite everything that they have been through. The air down here is hardly warmer than the air out there, and her clothes are still soaked, freezing, and clinging to her like an icy carapace, despite the heap of old blankets that she is buried under. She vaguely recalls hearing something about how you're supposed to take them off in order to prevent hypothermia, but it seems a little late for it now. Besides, if she did, she would have to let go of Flynn, and she's not doing that. Not now. Not for a while.
Flynn is shivering too, his clothes driven through with frozen needles and rimes of hoarfrost, and Lucy shifts her position, pulling him more closely to her. They still can barely see each other in the murk, but they duck their heads and kiss again, her fingers clutching at the chilly skin of his face, the rasp of his unshaven stubble. She doesn't want to stop, and if this is just a dream, she doesn't want to wake up. She's not going to forget, ever, what it felt like to believe that he was dead, that the Titanic took him down with her, and his valiant quest to save Rufus and Iris led to Lucy losing him in a way that can't be undone. The thought still horrifies her. She can't. She can't.
"It's all right," Flynn whispers, his voice soft and rough in the dark. "I'm alive, Lucy. I'm here."
Lucy wants to answer, but her mouth still only utters a little whimper. She spots the dim glow of a brazier nearby, and regardless of the ever-present risk of fire in close quarters belowdecks, picks them both up and crab-scuttles them nearer. The air is starting to warm with the press of bodies and the kindling of makeshift stoves, and their clothes are dripping like crazy. It's wet and clammy and not particularly comfortable, but Lucy doesn't care. Now that she can see him better, she keeps tracing his face with her fingers, memorizing him by touch, marveling at her own stupidity in not doing this for so long. She is awake, she insists to herself. She is awake, and this is real.
Flynn doesn't stop her, since he knows why. He doesn't speak either, just gazes at her with all the devotion in the world in his eyes. At last, he catches her hand, lifts it to his lips, and presses a kiss to her palm, curling her fingers around it. "There, now," he says. "We need to find some dry clothes before we do freeze. It would be stupid to survive the most famous shipwreck in history, only to keel over since we were too stubborn to sacrifice our fancy outfits."
Lucy chokes on an unhinged laugh. It's so like him -- the brusque pragmatism, the dry sarcasm, the poking subtle fun at how ridiculous this all was and remains to be -- that she can't stand it. She turns up her face, desperate for another kiss, and Flynn obliges, his mouth a whisper on hers, gentle and reassuring. "You know," he says at last, meditatively. "If I had gone down back there -- "
"No, Garcia. No, don't say it." Lucy clutches at him. "You're fine, remember? We're fine. We're here."
Flynn smiles abstractedly, and she knows that he's still thinking about Iris. He could hardly be doing anything else. "Yes," he says. "And I'm glad for it. But there are... there are worse ways to die. Making sure that my family was safe. Iris, and you, and Rufus, and even bloody Wyatt. Don't ask me when that happened, but.... still."
Lucy's heart aches as if someone has wrapped it in a fist and squeezed. She wants to tell him that nothing, nothing could be worth losing him, but she doesn't want to take it away from Flynn, the realization of what the entire team has, at last, become so very worth to him. He gets up, then, and pulls her after him. Hand in hand, they go in search of dry clothes, warm food, Wyatt, and the remainder of the voyage to New York. We survived, Lucy thinks, giddy with euphoria and agony and a relief beyond all words and time. We survived. We're here. We're here. We're here.
(And, God willing, they always will be.)
