get to know your fic writer
tagged by the lovely and talented @stereopticons @jesuisici33 @heartshapedvows @wikiangela Thank you mwah! 😘
When did you post your first ever fanfic?
July 24, 2021
First character(s) you wrote for:
I had always written for OCs and never considered writing for established characters until I met David and Patrick from Schitt's Creek. After a few months of reading SC fics I finally wrote something of my own.
Main character(s) you’re currently writing for:
Currently Buck and Eddie, but I also write for Alexis/Twyla and David/Patrick
Character(s) you haven’t written about before but plan on writing about soon:
I’m not sure I have any? Technically I’ve not really written Lucy before so exploring that currently is interesting. Does that count?
Fandom(s) you’re currently writing for:
911, Schitt's Creek
Platonic pairing(s) you currently write for:
Currently Buck and Lucy but I also love writing David and Stevie.
Romantic pairing(s) you currently write for:
Buck/Eddie, Alexis/Twyla, David/Patrick
Your top 3 tags on AO3 (if you post your works on AO3):
Fluff, First kiss, POV David Rose
Your current platform where you post your works:
AO3
Snippet of the wip you’re currently working on:
This is a future scene that I don’t think really spoils anything. But I love it and what I’m not sharing made me ugly cry so…
Buck cups his cheek, pressing a gentle kiss there. He gets a grunt in response that makes him chuckle under his breath. “Sleep well, sweetheart.”
Stiff, achy joints make getting out of bed much more of a process than it used to be. Eventually he swings his legs over the mattress and puts on his slippers. After relieving himself, he shuffles to the kitchen for breakfast.
The routine hasn’t changed much in the years since they retired. A few more prescriptions have found their way into the medicine cabinet, and neither one of them eats a hearty meal like they used to. But Buck still starts by turning on the radio and getting coffee ready for when Eddie wakes up, the same way he has for decades.
While the coffee maker gurgles, dripping the precious liquid into the pot below, Buck gets his own breakfast ready. He pulls out a container of plain yogurt, then some berries Chris brought from the market yesterday. Slowly, steadily Buck assembles a small bowl with his ingredients, topping it off with honey and granola. Before he takes it to the table he fills a mug with coffee, cream and sugar for himself, and sets an extra mug out for Eddie.
An old country song he can’t remember the name of anymore plays on the radio. The singer croons about a Mexican maiden and a young cowboy, wild as the Texas wind. Buck looks to the doorway and smiles to himself thinking about the young cowboy who swept him off his feet so long ago.
Eddie’s hair has turned completely gray, coffee brown eyes have dulled, surrounded by wrinkles and crow’s feet, and there’s nothing quick about his movements anymore. Not that Buck’s any better. It doesn’t stop him from seeing the ruggedly handsome man with the devastating smile that could always stop Buck in his tracks.
I’ll call on @blackandwhiteandrose @shortsighted-owl @eddiebabygirldiaz @elvensorceress @disasterbuckdiaz @giddyupbuck @vanillahigh00 @monsterrae1 @buddierights @statueinthestone @spotsandsocks @pirrusstuff @apothecarose @rmd-writes my love @lizzie-bennetdarcy @your-catfish-friend @watchyourbuck @thewolvesof1998 @forthewolves @ladydorian05 @wildlife4life @mysteriouslyyounggalaxy @hoodie-buck and anyone else who wants to

tagged by @jesuisici33 💖
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
80 (this blows my mind)
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
539,880 but this is skewed by several collaborations. The total words that are exclusively mine is probably closer to 400-450k
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Red, White & Royal Blue, 911 Lone Star, Schitt's Creek (barely, but I'm not letting them go)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Everybody needs good neighbours
yours for the afternoon
to the victor, the spoils
Hook(up), line & sinker (collab with @athousandrooms, @clottedcreamfudge, @indomitable-love, @the-amber-fox)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! I love comments so much and appreciate readers who take the time to leave them, so I like to acknowledge that. Also, I've made several friends as a result of leaving comments or vice versa 💖💖
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
No angsty endings in this house
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All of my fics have a happy ending (usually literally as well 😉)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Occasionally
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA (yes, mostly smut with so many feelings)
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I haven't ever written a crossover!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I'm aware
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have (I think). I don't remember which one though
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Several and it's so much fun! I love writing with my friends
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Nope, you can't make me choose between my three otps (David/Patrick, Alex/Henry, Carlos/TK)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My Schitt's Creek paint and sip au
16. What are your writing strengths?
completely gratuitous outfit descriptions, banter, people seem to like when I write smut with feelings
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Definitely world building, I'm not good at that
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've included Spanish dialogue in both RWRB fic and Tarlos fic before with the generous assistance of some Spanish speaking friends. I think it can definitely work if the context is right.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Schitt's Creek
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
To the surprise of no one, my RWRB lawyer au (start with to the victor, the spoils, which I've linked up there ^^)

Get to Know Your Fanfic Writer
Tagged by my beloveds @hippolotamus and @smblmn 🥰 (I'm sorry if I forgot anyone, I have been so bad about doing tagged things lately)
When did you post your first ever fanfic?
May 20, 2022
First character(s) you wrote for
David and Patrick, but my first fic was actually Ray POV
(There may also be some Percabeth buried in a notebook somewhere)
Main character(s) you're currently writing for
David and Patrick, and Henry and Alex
Character(s) you haven't written about before but plan on writing about soon
None that I have plans to, but if I did it would probably be Junora
Fandom(s) you are currently writing for
Schitt's Creek and RWRB
Platonic pairing(s) you are currently writing for
I actually don't think I've written a fic that focused on a platonic pairing? But David & Stevie is my fave
Romantic pairing(s) you are currently writing for
David/Patrick and Henry/Alex
Your top 3 tags on AO3
Art, fanart, canon compliant. If we ignore the art tags, the next two are fluff and smut
Your current platform where you post your works
AO3
Snippet of the wip you're currently working on
I have two for rwrb because I have fallen completely headfirst into it. This is from my non fest wip
They lay side by side in silence for a few moments, their breathing the only sound in the room. It's as if they've come to a mutual understanding that a single word will pop the bubble of contentment between them, forcing them to face the real world. Henry knows Alex will have to leave soon, to go back to the United States and put thousands of miles between them. Henry doesn't want him to go.
I was tagged days ago so I won't tag anyone, but if you haven't played along I would love to see your answers!!!

Weekend WIP Game
tagged by the kind and talented @jesuisici33 @wikiangela and @lover-of-mine
Rules: List your WIPs below (if you only write one fic at a time, feel free to include future WIPs/ideas!) then answer the following questions. Then, tag as many people as you have WIPs (or more)
1. WIP List:
come close, let me be home (slow dance fic)
Fantasy AU
Rival Firefighters 🚒
2. Which of your WIPs is currently the longest?
Fantasy AU.
3. Which WIP do you expect will end up the longest?
Definitely Fantasy AU
4. Which WIP is your favourite to write/the most enjoyable to write? Why?
Hmmm I’ve enjoyed aspects from all of them tbh. Fantasy au is so self indulgent cos it’s my favourite genre so writing it is something special. Rival Firefighters is flirty and fun and coming up with banter between Buck and Eddie is always a good time. And the slow dance fic is sweet and soft and I enjoy writing these boys already all gooey in love so yeah ☺️
5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?
The fantasy au for sure! It’s my favourite genre and I really want to be able to bring what’s in my head into actual written words.
6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?
Fantasy au haha for the same reasons as above
7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?
Fantasy au and probably rival firefighters
8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer’s block?
Yes unfortunately 🤪
9. Which WIP has your favourite OC? Tell us about them?
Fantasy AU has one OC so far and he is not a nice character so definitely not a favourite 😅
10. Which WIP is the sexiest?
Rival Firefighters … even though there most likely won’t be any actual smut until much later in the fic, there will be a lot of sexual tension .. I hope 🤞🏻
11. Which WIP is the angstiest?
Probably fantasy au?
12. Which WIP has the best characterisation (in your humble opinion)?
I have no idea tbh 😅
13. Which WIP has the best scene setting (in your humble opinion)?
Gonna have to go with fantasy au cos it’s in a completely made up realm. I’m very nervous about writing all that cos it’s not my strong suit.
14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on?
Oh geez … umm fantasy au maybe? Like the notes for that … there’s a lot haha
15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? Why?
Fantasy au and rival firefighters
16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?
yes. The fantasy au fic actually started as a dream
17. Do any of your WIPs have particular complexities that your other fics don’t?
Yes, the fantasy au has magic and stuff
18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour?
I think rival firefighters
19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?
No
20. Tell us one thing we don’t know about one or more of your WIPs
I’ve actually had the idea for the fantasy au for a few years but the main pairing was going to be Dean & Cas from Supernatural. I kind of fell out of that fandom but the idea stuck with me and the main characters just became two faceless people until Buck and Eddie came along and slotted into place like it had always been meant for them.
No pressure tagging: @thewolvesof1998 @exhuastedpigeon @callmenewbie @callaplums @eddiebabygirldiaz @loserdiaz @hippolotamus @spotsandsocks

Get to know your fic writer
Thanks for the asks! 🧡
Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Word/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc.
I had a weird thing about throwing people under buses for a while?
I’ve always leaned into darker imagery in general, that’s just my vibe. And I could waffle on about lights and shadows forever. The dichotomy of things. I love juxtaposition, I think it’s neat and I use it all the time for environmental descriptions. I’ve got a random pile of motifs that keep popping up in So It Goes that I’ll rotate through when appropriate. Most of those weren’t planned, they just made sense when I first wrote them down and I kept going back to them. Water being the dumbest. (One of the main characters is literally named after a body of water though. How could I not?) My solarpunk ass also likes sneaking nature in whenever possible too. Plants and bugs can in fact solve the world’s problems. Also love callbacks.
How do you choose where to end a chapter?
I tend to end chapters on resolutions, setups/questions, or a cliffhanger. As to which one sort of depends on what is happening in the chapter and/or if I need to set up for what’s coming up next. Chapters that have a self-contained plot typically end on a resolution (everything’s all nicely wrapped up) or a setup (dialogue or a scene that introduces the action for the next chapter, but isn’t a true cliffhanger. I end on a lot of phone calls lol). Cliffhangers are reserved for plot arcs that extend over multiple chapters.
For So It Goes, I blocked my chapters out to contain certain arcs and scenes of things that I thought thematically would fit well in a chapter. By and large, that worked really well until I started getting towards the tail end of this thing. I think the combination of my writing having grown in conjunction with having crammed more things together than earlier chapters probably facilitated things spiraling out of control. I think it’s okay to have longer chapters from time to time, but back to back ones that are regularly hitting over 20k is a bit too much to write and read in one go. So, something I need to work on in future.

55, 56, 57! (for the writer ask)
55. Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones? paul 😌❤️✨ his brain is weird. (also he's just easier because john is too witty for me).
56. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on? i think i do a good job of keeping everyone human, and understandable, rather than making certain characters plot devices or 2D villains or whatever. it's something i care about a lot so i feel quite fulfilled when someone notices that i put a lot of thought into how a character behaves.
57. Do you prefer editing as you write, or waiting until it’s finished? i work in sort of unstoppable feverish state where i bulldoze my way through a first draft as if i'm gonna get taken out back and executed any minute now so i need to finish it before that happens. and then only once that's done do i bother to read over anything.

For @clawbehavior who asked from the get to know your fic writer! list:
1. Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?
I like a mixture of both. Just depends on the story. I seem to be writing longer one shots recently, but sometimes a fic requires being broken up into multi-chapters
7. How do you choose which POV to write from?
I've always enjoyed reading from third-person omniscient because when I write my stories, I write them like they're a tv-show/drama/movie, so I see the scenes in that form. And those scenes are always from like an audience/omniscient viewpoint so that's just what I do. I've only ever written a story once in first person and that was during nanowrimo in eighth grade and I decided to never write in that pov again because I'm just not a fan of it
8. Do you prefer the beginning, middle, or end of a story?
Like for writing or reading? I like all aspects of a story, I don't have a preference for one over the other

Get to know your fanfic writer
Thanks @cha-melodius @rmd-writes @myheartalivewrites for the tags! 🩷
When did you post your first ever fanfic?
Probably like…2003? Ish? My first one that I still know the location of/remember the username for was from 2009 lol
First character(s) you wrote for:
Remus Lupin and Sirius Black. My baby queer self was immediately on the Wolfstar train.
Main character(s) you’re currently writing for:
Alex Claremont-Diaz and Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor
Character(s) you haven’t written about before but plan on writing about soon:
I’ve written them a little but def wanna do POV/more in depth focus on Rafael Luna and also Liam (I’m so fucking predictable haha)
Fandom(s) you’re currently writing for:
Red White & Royal Blue. I’ve got, like, my toes still in Schitt’s Creek.
Platonic pairing(s) you currently write for:
Alex & Raf, Alex & Nora, super six, family vibes in various combinations.
Your top 3 tags on AO3 (if you post your works on AO3):
If I exclude the POV markers (because let’s be real that’s kinda boring) it’s: prompt fill, canon compliant, fluff. This surprised me. (Plot what plot/porn without plot came in at #4 though never fear lol)
Your current platform where you post your works:
Archive of our own, darlings.
Snippet of the wip you’re currently working on:
The morning after Alex’s twenty-first birthday, his mom calls him into the library after breakfast. She’s sitting on the sofa when he enters rather than one of the armchairs like she normally does; she takes his hand as he sits down next to her, and he knows.
I know this has been going around for a while but tagging @hgejfmw-hgejhsf @inexplicablymine @lilythesilly @loveisembarrassingxx @maxbegone @nontoxic-writes @notcaycepollard @sherryvalli @stereopticons @welcometololaland and, as always, anyone who wants to play!

1,7 & 10!
1. Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?
Am I allowed to say both? I like one-shots because you don't have to think too much about them - you can just write whatever idea comes to mind and then post and forget about it (and I really do - there's some parts of them I have no memory of writing). Multi-chapter fics are much more of a challenge because you have to think about things like plot and character development and arc of change... but that's why I enjoy them. But different stories lend themselves to different formats. As much as I'd like to read 20 chapters of Paul trying to pull at art school parties and George frightening the life out of John every time he walks in a room, I'm not sure it would work.
7. How do you choose which POV to write from?
I honestly have no idea - I don't remember ever consciously deciding about it. And when I first started writing and didn't know what I was doing, my POVs were all over the place. And I still like a POV switch, so I'm clearly still not very good at it. I have noticed though that my POV character isn't always the main protagonist... like in The Life of Riley, it's really all about Paul's journey, even thought it's John's POV.
10. Cltr+f "blinks" on your WIP & copy paste the first sentence/paragraph that comes up
I don’t seem to have the word ‘blinks’ but I do seem to have many of its variations, so you can have a snippet from the next chapter of Life of Riley…
“And I hear the engagement is off,” she continued.
John put his hands up in defence. “I’m just the driver, Rose.”
“Hmm,” she said. “Well, between you and me, I never thought she was right for him, anyway.”
John blinked at her in surprise, but before he could say anything else, Paul walked out of the house, looking just as breathtaking as John remembered.
(I bloody love Rose). Thank you!

Fic asks: 4, 7, 13, 22, 24, 41
Thanks for the ask! <3
Where do you find inspiration for new ideas?
Music, art I saw, things happening in my life. Also I go back to the characters I have and the timeline I've organized and ask questions, notice patterns.
How do you choose which POV to write from? It' s usually the character that knows the least and I feel will learn the most from the experience of the story.
I very rarely switch up POVs within a work. It is tricky but I feel it pays off and makes you be more creative with storytelling. There's no convenient pair of eyes for you to drop your reader behind. Also If you do it too much it's hard to see the plot and readers start weighing one character over the other. For instance, I read The Devil In The White City and the architect was so fucking boring compared to the psychotic serial killer with a murder mansion I literally skipped over half the book.
What’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?
"The Road to Hell is paved with adverbs."- Stephen King
I am very wary of how many abverbs I use. I strive where I can to eliminate them and replace them with a stronger verb, or an allusion.
Also from the beginning of a chapter to an end, a character must be changed, or a decision must be weighed.
22 Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)
I really don't like meek main characters. Like main characters that are too passive. Even my Copia, while cowardly, has a shred of desire that makes him stand his ground if he is really really pushed. I want my character to be an Icebreaker, the one that makes the decisions (or actively fails to and that's the consequence)
Worst writing advice anyone ever gave you?
Literally writing every thing that is in a space, or that could happen. Like, keep it quick. We know characters go to the bathroom, we know they go to the store to get stuff for their day to day. We know a bedroom is going to have a dresser with typical stuff in it. Readers automatically assume certain daily tasks and items happen and exist. They're not babies, they have object permanence. When you look at a place, you don't take it all in at once, your eyes move around and the snippets your brain collects makes the picture. I don't give a damn if the room has a dresser and a bed and a comb on the table unless they are shitty, or on fire, or have something to do with the plot or actual atmosphere that will affect the character and or plot. (lol I am so sore about this can you tell)
Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?
I am more likely to reread scenes from fics again. And multiple times if they stick in my memory.
I'm surprised at the depth of these questions! Ask away (although I may not respond immediately these are dense!)

Actually I meant 65, not 55, so tack that 65 on there (but also do 55 anyway)
Anything for you!! 💚
65. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project.
So, I can't really give you the real answer without spoiling the fic, so instead, I'll say for the jealous!Tommy fic, there are two scenes with Christopher that I'm looking forward to writing. Basically, in the first, the focus is on Christopher and Tommy, and the second on Christopher and Buck to highlight the difference there. I haven't fully figured them out or even committed to including them yet, but I really like the idea of them, so I'm looking forward to trying them out this weekend.

All three of the kinkmeme fics I posted were quickly sent to me by mutuals as something I would like if not immediately guessed. Of course this was my fault for repeatedly writing het which became my kinkmeme MO… I think if I posted something anonymously now it would be guessable by dint of being present day brocedes endgame. It is literally the only thing I think about and I blog about it pretty often? The brainworms are REAL

Get to know your fic writer
Thank you for indulging me twice! lmfao 🧡
Worst writing advice anyone ever gave you?
I’m struggling to think of an answer for this question. Chances are if someone dispensed horrible advice to me, I probably took it and then put it straight in the trash can. I’m old enough to know not to fall for that shit.
What’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?
Wasn’t a tip, so much as feedback, but I had a college prof roast me on my use of adverbs once and I never got over it. Many professional writers and editors say that adverbs are a sign of weak and lazy writing. It’s not that I never use adverbs, but I do try to minimize my use of them. At least in the fic stuff I post, maybe work emails. Does it make my writing better? I don’t know, but it’s always stuck with me. Tumblr posts though, who gives a fuck.
What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?
Rhythm? That’s kind of a weird one, but I think I have a pretty good handle on pacing in my stories and then also finding the poetry in my own words. Writing/reading are very auditory for me, so I’ll spend a lot of time rearranging sentences and paragraphs, and hunting for specific words until things sound right. It’s probably why my writing process is so time consuming but I think the final results are worth it. I mean I like it, even if no one else notices it lol.

I kind of want you to answer all of those fic writer questions tbh, but let’s start with these 3 (you can just pick one if you like)
21. Would you ever collaborate with another writer for a story?
40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
74. You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?
and where is your reblog of this ask meme, hmmmmm?? 🤨👉⌚️
21. Would you ever collaborate with another writer for a story?
answered
40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see? i was trying to think what i've written that is visually interesting and then i remembered that given my repertoire it could be something horny, so why lie. piano sex from orgasm of sound.
74. You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it? copious em dashes probably. i don't know what my writing style is but i feel like it's obvious when it's me. but also i've already put foot fetish to my name so who's to say what it would take to make me post anonymously lol
