I wrote this as a comment on the actual vid but I'm posting it here cuz I'm feeling so much about it.
Okay you know why I like that ending so much? I think it made the most sense in the world- just hear me out.
Martyn was completely right, it IS a death game! All the formalities and concession seen before- an even match inside a cactus ring, waiting for the countdown of one final battle, blowing oneself up sky high to offer the first place- those don't need to happen at all. c!Martyn maybe went against the rules of the fight that he, Scott and Impulse agreed on, but the rules of the game? He followed them perfectly. You could even argue that it wasn't quite him at the end, even, not quite. The time being "tasty"- too reminiscent of the Watchers loving the taste of despair on the players' souls.
And then back to the Watchers. Every player has that intrinsic urge to try and survive, but Martyn? There's also an external force at play here, that wants him to win so, so badly. The Watchers want a show, and for some reason they're keen on c!Martyn putting on the main show for them. He's been hearing them since Dogwarts (and unless it's been said otherwise I don't see a reason to why he hasn't continued to hear them through the whole four seasons), putting that pressure on him… And after so long, he just has to crack, right? No time for games in a game of death, not when maybe, finally, he can fullfill "their will" and maybe stop this for good. He's no stranger to killing allies, anyway.
I think this ending was what was meant to happen. Play to win, everyone for themselves. This may be a stretch but remember Dogwarts? If Martyn had kept running instead of turning and trying to fight Scar after he killed his king, then maybe he would've lived. Finally, a policy of no attachments at the end, and it gets him the win, because maybe THIS is how the game is meant to be played.
And lore hat off, it was overall so fun to watch. From Cherri's amazing thumbnails, to the fast-forward of the watch, the skins, the hourglass, to even the little whistle of the tnt minecarts falling- and then of course, THE falling, once again. It made this pov very unique and I loved it so much. GG :)

Eddie Munson x GN!Reader
Word Count: 561
Warnings: None
Summary: You've been in love with Eddie Munson for years. If only he felt the same way about you.
General Taglist: @gg-is-a-loser @yesshewrites1
Moots: @spidervee @iheardarumorthings @thewritingbabe @scandalous-chaos @ddejavvu @winterwisteria @abibliophobiaa
A/N: Y'all help this is my third Eddie fic in two days. I have only seen two episodes of season four and I am already obsessed with him send help-
“(Y/N), wait.”
You stopped dead in your tracks. You should’ve kept going, you should’ve ran without looking back, but there was something about that voice that rendered you motionless. Tears dripped down your face. “Go away, Eddie,” you whispered.
“No. You’re upset and I’m not gonna leave you while you’re upset. Please tell me what’s going on.”
How could you? How could you tell him what was going on when the problem was that you were in love with him? Oh, Eddie, it’s nothing, it’s just that I’ve been in love with you for years and you’re in love with someone else. No biggie. “I can’t.”
You heard Eddie huff frustratedly. “C’mon, (Y/N/N), I can’t help you if you’re not gonna tell me what’s going on.”
“You couldn’t help me even if I told you, Eddie.” More tears slipped down.
“Can’t I just try?” His voice sounded on the verge of breaking. How unfair was it that he was concerned about you when you were trying so hard to fall out of love with him?
You snapped, swiveling around as your vision blurred with even more tears. “Fine! You know what’s wrong? What’s wrong is that I’ve been in love with you since 1983 and you’re not in love with me! What’s wrong is that I spend every waking minute thinking of you and I know all you think about is her!” You broke down, sobbing and hugging your body as you fell to the ground. “I’m sorry,” you whispered. “I’m sorry, it’s not your fault, I just - “
“Hey, hey, hey, hey…” Eddie’s voice was soft, and sweet like honey. “Hey, Bubbles, no… I’m - “ He stopped, pressed a kiss to your forehead, then started again. “Who do you think I think about all the time?”
You shut your eyes. “Don’t play dumb, Eddie. You’re in love with Jessie, I can see the way you look at her.”
Eddie’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Jessie? Jessica Smith? No, no, Bubbles, Jessie’s just a friend. I- I barely know her. You - “ He stopped again. “Are you really in love with me?” he asked quietly.
You sobbed again, covering your face.
“Hey, hey, don’t cry, don’t cry…” He pulled you into his arms and kissed your head. “(Y/N), I’m in love with you too.”
Your cries quieted. “You’re… what?” you whispered in disbelief.
“I have been forever.” He gently thumbed away your tears. “Why didn’t you just tell me?”
“I didn’t want to mess everything up,” you whispered. “I thought- I thought I could handle just being your friend.”
“You don’t have to.” He tilted your head up and kissed you softly.
His breath tasted of cigarettes but you didn’t mind, too hungry for the feeling of his lips against yours to care about anything else. You melted against him, crying again, and let him be your anchor, the only thing holding you to reality.
You broke away reluctantly and collapsed in his arms, eyes falling shut. “I love you so much,” you told him softly, in awe of the fact that you could tell him so freely.
“I love you too,” he replied, and your awe increased.
Eddie Munson was awe inspiring, and so was the nature of your love for him. But none of that compared to the awe his feelings for you inspired in your heart.

I apologize for the hold Chicago Fire has on me.
Fc: Hanako Greensmith, who plays Violet in Chicago Fire, please watch it. 😐
Also, Chicago gp early in the season instead of the Vegas gp later, using the Chicago street track.

ynbaybee You have such a way with words
Tuesday Morning rolled around. A hectic shift change later and you were on the road back to your apartment. Your PIC’s voice steady through your speakers, detailing every high and low in your performance throughout the past 24 hours.
“Really, you did great,” she said, her soft voice full of the kind of confidence you could draw from.
“Thanks Burkhart,” You said, focused a little more on pulling in to your parking spot, right next to a dark green Aston Martin.
A sore thumb next to your cute little baby blue Hyundai.
The two of you said your goodbyes before hanging up and leaving you to hurry on into your apartment.
“Zhou”
“L/N”
Guanyu had made himself at home, a still warm breakfast on the stove and coffee brewing. It filled your home with a kind of sweet and comfy scent that you would miss once Guanyu hit the road again.
“I have a flight at four tomorrow morning,” he organized two plates as he spoke. Low, but energized. “I wanted to spend some more time with you before I left.”
The two of you settled in to your couch, tucked off into a corner adjacent to your TV, ready with Netflix pulled up.

valtteribotas When are you bringing her to a race?
ynbaybee Once I’m not a probie anymore I’m making time 🫡🫡
You woke up with Guanyu, 2:30 in the morning. Too early for breakfast, plenty early for a Redbull.
“I love you, but next time maybe don’t.”
Guanyu rolled his eyes, ever the morning person to your slow moving night owl.
His hand found your waist as the two of you left the apartment, checking pockets for his belongings. You ran through his checklist again before waving your hand for him to get moving again.
The drive to the airport was quiet. While you could never fall asleep too easy in a car, it was still too early to be too talkative. You shifted your attention from the road ahead, to Guanyu. One hand in yours, the other steering.
He stayed just as quiet, not taking his eyes off of the road. Even after full minutes passed I’d you staring as him.
You held his hand in both of yours, running your thumb along his wrist.
“What are you thinking about?” He asked, shooting you a glance.
“Next shift we’re having a meeting to determine wether or not I’m staying at the firehouse,” you said, “I’m pretty confident, but still nervous.”
Guanyu had pulled into a parking spot, next to where his team had just arrived moments earlier. He pulled your hands into his.
“They love you,” he squeezed your hands, “Chief Gonzales wouldn’t let you go if he wanted to.”
“Sometimes I think they like you more.”
“They like anyone who will feed them”
The two of you had drifted closer together, everything outside of the car drifted further away. Your hand found itself rested on his cheek, his on your arm.
“I love you,” his voice barely hit a whisper before his lips were on yours. The kind of soft, tame kiss that would never hold you over until his next visit, but it would have to do.
The next kiss just a quick peck, followed by an exchange of “good luck” and Guanyu jumping out of the car and running to catch up with his team. Leaving you alone to make your way back to your apartment. Hopefully to recover some sleep.

I know this is a long shot but has Cait ever been on an EMMY prediction list? Usually she was on the GG. Amazed that she is here even if not in the top 6.
https://variety.com/lists/2024-emmys-lead-actress-drama-predictions/also-in-contention-2/
Thanks for the message, Anon. 😃
Your link includes Variety’s predictions of nominees in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. Nominations will be announced on 17 July and the Emmys awarded on 15 September.
Variety included this photo in its story published yesterday, 11 April 2024:

It’s not a long shot, as you suggest. To date, she’s never been nominated, but predictions lists have included Caitríona’s name every Outlander season. Here are some examples:
The Wrap 2015 / Season 1
E! News 2016 / Season 2
Awards Watch 2018 / Season 3
Spoiler TV 2019 / Season 4
Gold Derby 2020 / Season 5
We Are Actors (Variety) 2022 / Season 6
Variety 2024 / Season 7
Outlander has been nominated four times.

Regarding 2024 Emmys for Drama, Variety has published its predictions lists for Drama Series, Lead Actor, and Lead Actress. The lists for Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Directing, Writing, and Casting are pending. Maybe we’ll see more Outlander representation in those five categories? 🍿
Remember… I'm thinking about naming my first son Emmy so I can say I've got one. I want Emmy, Oscar, and Tony - and my daughter Grammy. — Noah Wyle
😂 According to IMDb, Noah Wyle has two children, sons, and neither is named Emmy. He received five Emmy nominations for playing Dr John Carter on ER.

AO3: Cross-posted Here! My Masterlist Previous Part | Series Masterlist | Next Part
Tumblr media
The holiday season in San Diego is always a little - interesting. You only get white snow drenched Christmases in the movies in California. But you honestly wouldn’t trade your California Christmases for anything in the world. That’s due, in part, to the family you’ve found yourself a part of. Jake and Javy are always around, filling your house with light and laughter, their bond stronger than blood. Callie and Neil are always around too, your family blending perfectly with Jake’s like they’ve always belonged together. With Callie, comes Tasha, who Callie confided to you, might be the one. With Tasha comes Bob. And once you’ve got Bob coming, it was only natural to invite the other Daggers. Soon enough, your house is the place to be for any elite aviator posted at North Island.
That’s no less true as you clean up in the kitchen after the first Thanksgiving you’ve ever hosted. The football game is blaring out from your living room and you can hear the boys’ exaggerated boos and smack talk emanating through the house. You’re loading the last of the dinner plates into the dishwasher when your phone rings as Jake makes his way into the kitchen.
You’re giggling into the phone when you pick it up. How can you be anything but happy with a 6-foot-tall man, your 6-foot-tall man, draped across your back?
“Mama Georgie! Hi! Happy Thanksgiving!” You’re smiling from ear to ear as Jake kisses the side of your head. You grin as Jake’s mom tells you all about the Seresin family Thanksgiving spread.
“Thanks for sending me your pie recipes, Mama Georgie! They went over a treat here. Twelve aviators and they ate every crumb. I made four pies!” You can’t even object when Jake snatches the phone from you to steal his mama for himself a little.
“Hey, mama! I’m missing all of y’all today. It’s not Thanksgiving if I’m not home. But thankfully my gorgeous girl was here and gave me a slice of home so I don’t miss you too badly.” Heat rushes through your system, settling hot in your chest like it always does when Jake calls you his.
It’s as you pull out the apple cider from the fridge, for the spiked apple cider you're serving after the game, that you hear Jake’s tone change.
“Sir.” That one word is enough to capture your interest. Who in his family would Jake call sir? Not his brothers. His dad or his grandfather then.
“Yessir. I was planning on coming home for Christmas, sir.” When you turn around, all of the joy has drained right out of Jake’s face. His green eyes look almost angry as you leave the cider ingredients on the counter and walk right to his side. To his credit, he tries to stay light-hearted for you, mouthing "my dad" and rolling his eyes, but after nearly a year and a half together, you're sure you can read Jake a bit better than that.
Jake's worried, worried and tense about something. You know he's more than his Hangman persona, and you're sure you can read every sign of Jake putting that mask on from the first indicator. But right now? It's not Hangman schooling his emotions, and it's not your goofy golden retriever of a boyfriend. This is somebody else.
"I've got two weeks of leave, sir, and I am planning on flying in on the 22nd or 23rd and leaving shortly after the New Year." Your hands glide easily over the slick soft material of the eye-blindingly bright orange jersey covering Jake's torso as you wrap your arms around his waist.
"Am I bringing my girl home?" You can feel every muscle under your fingertips tense. "I have to double check that she doesn't have plans already, sir."
You can hear a voice that sounds so much like Jake's spilling out of the phone. It sounds similar, yes, but there is a harshness to this voice you’ve never heard in Jake’s. The underlying aura of casual cruelty this voice emanates has chills running down your spine. From how tense Jake is as he wraps an arm around you, like he's reaching for a buoy to keep him afloat in rough waters, you know you're right to worry.
You don't know when Jake hangs up the call, because the next thing you know are his arms curled tight around you. Your cheek is pressed tightly to his chest and you can hear the steady whoosh of his breathing.
"You back with me, gorgeous?" You nuzzle in closer, all of a sudden so relaxed that you could fall asleep just like this.
“Yeah, Jay.” You slide your hands under Jake’s jersey, tracing the strong muscles of his back as he rocks the two of you back and forth.
“So you heard that, yeah?” You nod as you finally pull away, pulling out a pot from the cupboard to start on the cider.
“Was that your dad?” You’re cutting up apples as Jake muscles up to the counter next to you.
“Yeah. D’you need any spices for the cider?” He’s already poured out the gallons of cider into the pot and set it to simmer.
“What did he want? For the cider I’ll need a stick of cinnamon, a couple of cloves, a half-inch piece of ginger and a bit of citrus peel all in one of those spice sachets. I’ve got the orange peel on the cutting board for you, Jay.” You can’t hide your smile as Jake drops a kiss to your lips before nabbing the peel to add the to sachet that he’s already got mostly assembled.
“He wants you to come home with me for Christmas.” You can’t read Jake’s tone as he says those words. “Put the sachet into the pot?”
“Yeah, the sachet goes right into the pot.” You carefully lower the apple slices into the pot and put the lid on it before turning around. Jake’s got his arms crossed against the counter, looking right at you. “Do you want me to come home with you for Christmas?”
“Of course I do, baby doll.” But you know there’s something Jake’s hiding from you. You can see words at the tip of his tongue as he tries to think of a spin to what his first initial thought is.
“Then what’s going on? Is it your family?” You must be frowning because Jake’s hands rise up to squish your cheeks even as he brings your forehead to meet his. Your lips brush lightly across his as you continue to speak, even as your voice is muffled by the tight grip he has on your cheeks. “I mean, I met Mama Georgie and Will when you were in the hospital and they loved me. At least I think they did? I wasn’t at my best though so who even knows if they saw anything other than a mess? I hope they loved me, Jay!”
Jake’s chuckling as he looks into your eyes, so amused by your obvious distress. You’re still blathering on about your intense need to make sure Jake’s family liked you when you get cut off by his lips covering yours. Your eyes flutter closed on instinct as your arms rise to wrap around Jake’s neck. His tongue slips easily between your parted lips even as his hands slide under your blouse to meet the bare skin at the waistband of your jeans. Jake kisses all of the thoughts out of your head for several moments before a set of sharp wolf-whistles breaks you apart. You’re blushing a little, your face hot, as you bury yourself into Jake’s chest just a little before walking to the stove to check on the cider. Unsurprisingly, it’s Callie, Tasha, and Javy standing right there, looking at you and Jake with amused eyes.
“I thought we were getting cider. Then we walk in here and you’re all loved up, sucking face with your boy toy?” It’s Callie, taking advantage of one of the few times she can tease you, of course. But that’s your one advantage, having a best friend who confides in you about everything and whose spare keys you have.
You flip her off before grinning, “At least you haven’t walked in on us fucking on the sofa, Cal! Of course, I can’t say the same thing about you.”
Your remark takes the heat off of you and Jake and you’re more than pleased when all three of your friends walk out of the kitchen bickering with each other. By the resulting roar coming out of your living room, it’s a topic of conversation that all of the other aviators latch on to quite easily. More importantly, it leaves you and Jake alone in the kitchen again.
“As I was saying, before we were so rudely interrupted earlier,” Jake cages you up against the kitchen counter, capturing your lips in another kiss. “They loved you, gorgeous. Mama loves you in a way she’s never loved any of my other girlfriends. She keeps asking me how you are, how you’re doing. It’s why she has your phone number in the first place. I promise they adore you.” He’s peppering kisses across your face between words.
“Then what is it, Jake?” You can’t hide how worried you feel. It’s coloring your tone even as you trace the longhorn emblazoned across his chest with your eyes.
“It’s not you, sweetheart. It’s not my mom or siblings either. It’s my dad.” Those last words are practically whispered into your hair. “I've told you a little bit about him. You know what he's like. I really hoped I wouldn't have to ever introduce him to you. He's going to say a lot of shit, baby. I know he will. But if you truly want to come to Texas for me, I'll make sure he doesn't take his anger at me out on you."
"Why would he be angry at you, Jake?" You really don't understand why anybody would be mad at him.
"Because I've never been the son he wanted. The son he deserves. I was supposed to go to law school and then come back to be legal attache to the ranch and his legal council while he ran for office. I ruined all of that by joining the Navy."
It’s a thought you ruminate on for the rest of the night, while you’re cleaning up and getting ready for bed. Jake drives them straight out of your head soon afterwards, drugging you with the heat of his skin and press of his mouth.
Tumblr media
You don’t remember Jake’s words again until you’re waiting for your bags at baggage claim in the Austin airport a couple of days before Christmas. Most people are excited to go home for the holidays right? Jake’s got a grimace on his face, one more akin to a man facing the gallows than a man going home to his beloved family. Coupled with the incredibly apparent storm clouds around him, and you’re already bracing yourself for a wholly uncomfortable Christmas. It’s a foul miasma which surrounds you from the moment you get into the taxi and all the way through the drive.
Jake’s smiling, showing you all of the sights, coupled with anecdotes about his childhood. It’s nice, of course, seeing where Jake grew up, but there is something not quite right about his artificial good mood. All of the houses are covered in colorful lights and the atmosphere looks straight out of a storybook - if you switch out Texas scrub for snow, of course.
Seresin Ranch is just as festively decorated as every other property you've seen so far. At about an hour's drive from the airport, you'd half expected a little place in the middle of nowhere. You couldn't have been more wrong. There is an entire village's worth of houses on the many acres of land on the ranch, each covered in string lights. Ranch hands scurry to and fro, working cattle, training horses, and carting bales of hay to the big red barns you can see in the distance. You look out on the whole affair with fascination, the city-girl in you in awe at the foreign sights.
It's mid-afternoon as your cab pulls up the winding main road up to the biggest house you've ever seen. Jake's always carried this worldly, cultured air about him, and looking at his childhood home, you can see why. The main ranch house is up on a hill, overlooking the acres of land it's built on. The air smells crisp and clean as you step out of the taxi with the assistance of the butler. You also inexplicably feel out of place - like a little kid playing dress-up with their mother's heels and makeup or a wolf in sheep's clothing. Your simple, yet good quality jacket, cable-knit sweater, jeans and boots feel drab in comparison to the opulence you're sure you'll see on the inside.
No wonder the butler looks down his hooked nose at you. You look like a peasant entering the royal palace through the front gate on the arm of the prince. It clicks all of a sudden for you - why Jake's always so put-together, always so perfect. It has to be the effects of growing up in this place. The polished marble floor shows your entire reflection as you step carefully through the open front door into the foyer. Each of your footsteps echoes, ricocheting through the cavernous space as you hand your jacket to the butler and clutch your purse closer to your side.
"Here, gorgeous." Jake's voice eases some of the tension you feel, especially as his arm wraps around your shoulder and his lips press against your temple as he hands you your gift for his parents. It's nothing special - a couple of bottles of wine, one of the best varieties you could get, in a basket along with toys for the dogs, chocolates, and a throw blanket. Jake had approved of the basket and your idea for its contents when you'd suggested it, but standing in the foyer of his home, you're about ninety-nine percent sure it's cheap, far cheaper than his parents deserve.
Before you can ponder hiding it, Mama Georgie's already walking regally down the front stairs, her dimples twinkling in the sunlight as she walks faster than you ever could in her heels to greet her son. There is true affection and love in every interaction Mama Georgie has with Jake. You'd seen it in the hospital when Jake had been injured and you see it now. Side by side, the observation you'd made about mother and son while Jake was in the hospital is even more true - Jake is just like his mother, especially when they smile standing there side by side looking at you.
“Hi Darling! How are you? How was your trip? It wasn’t too bad was it? Y’all are just in time for dinner! I made your favorite, Jakey - my chili!” If there’s one person other than Jake who you’ve met that can put you at ease, it’s his mom. Mama Georgie sweeps you up into her arms for the firmest, most motherly, hug you’ve felt in a long time before dragging you after her into the kitchen, babbling a mile a minute. As sterile as the main foyer has been, the colossal chef-grade kitchen is anything but. The entire room is suffused with the warm smells of spices. There are two tow-headed toddlers standing at the counter gleefully mashing cookie dough between their fingers and three big dogs waiting for scraps. Arrayed around the room are what must be the remainder of Jake’s siblings and their spouses. Laughter is an undercurrent to the warm atmosphere.
“Can I get y’all anything to drink? Anything to eat? Jakey I know you haven’t been eating properly. Look at you, you’re so thin!” You smile unabashedly at the rising chorus of coo-ing noises as all four of Jake’s siblings join in on making their brother blush. Jake takes one look at your laughing face and wraps you in a bear hug, kissing you until your face is hot and your giggles are gone.
When he pulls away, he murmurs, “So you’ll pick my brothers and sisters before me, huh?” You know he’s not angry though, not when he’s smirking at you.
“They’re a funny bunch, Jay! What am I supposed to do?” You’re grinning fondly as Jake rolls his eyes.
To the room at large, he introduces you before abandoning you to his sisters and going to beg his mom for a snack she’s already assembling in bowls. If only the Daggers were here to hear how whiny the cool and collected Hangman can get. It makes you smile even wider as you chat with Jake’s sisters and sisters-in-law. From what Jake’s told you, he has two younger sisters, Eliza and Maggie, though as Eliza corrects you, she’s younger by only ten minutes, as his twin. His sisters-in-law are Hannah and Melissa. Of all of his siblings you’ve met, you know Hannah, Will’s wife, the best, as she’d come up to San Diego when Jake was injured with her husband. In age order, then, you have Henry, Will, Jake, Eliza, and Maggie. Hannah, a statuesque blonde, in addition to being Will’s wife, is mother to the twin terrors currently mashing cookie dough into each others’ mouths and Mama Georgie’s pristine kitchen counters, James and Jordan. Melissa is a mischievous looking red-head with green eyes that puts Jake’s to shame. Standing next to her 6 foot tall husband she’s curvy and diminutive. Her only child, a four month old baby girl named Sarah is the chubbiest, cutest baby you’ve ever met. Rounding out the family in the kitchen is Eliza’s fiancée, Beth.
You’ve got Sarah in your lap, the little girl playing with and gumming up your clean fingers when the entire kitchen seems to go silent. You feel a bit like a deer in headlights when a pair of green eyes seems to impale you from the tall, imposing person standing near Mama Georgie. You can’t even use Sarah as a buffer because Melissa whisks the baby away. So you’re left inexplicably empty-handed as you step forward to stand next to Jake in front of his dad.
“So, son. This is your girlfriend?” Your initial impressions of Jake’s dad just from hearing him through the phone were spot on.
“Yessir.” Jake introduces you to his dad, and his dad to you. Henry Seresin Sr is Jake’s older, more grizzled doppelganger, but one who has had every drop of joy wrung from his soul. His emerald eyes feel cold, like he’s trying to read your soul and maybe rob it from your body.
“Pleased to meet you.” You feel very much like you failed the most important test of your life. He doesn’t sound pleased to meet you at all. You’re more inclined to think he believes you to be akin to a bug squished on the bottom of his shoe. Just as soon as those intimidating green eyes have you in their crosshairs, they move on, transfixing Jake in their gaze.
“So this is what you’re getting up to? Chasing some piece of tail rather than keeping your head in the game? Your mom told me you got injured. Was it because your head was on her instead of on your mission?” Your hackles raise even higher at his words, if that is even possible.
You’re getting angry. Like this man even has an idea of what Jake’s been through. Hearing and knowing, understanding are two different things. But no matter how you swallow or how many words line up on your tongue, your mouth doesn’t work.
Jake just grasps your hand a bit tighter as he stares his father down. The mask you’d seen on his face after Thanksgiving Dinner when his dad had demanded Jake bring you home is back. Coupled with his ramrod straight back and the set to his jaw, you’d think Jake was facing down a particularly odious commanding officer, not his father. Before the tension can escalate any further though, Mama Georgie starts handing out bowls of food. With her Texas Chili in their hands, father and son seem to simmer down.
Before long, the twins have their little faces smeared in sour cream and rich meaty chili streaked across their chins, and that’s the first time you see Jake’s dad smile. He looks at James and Jordan with such naked affection in your eyes that you can understand how a woman as warm and kind as Mama Georgie could fall in love with a man like Henry Seresin. Jake is, rather unsurprisingly, taciturn throughout the meal where he had been goofing around with his brothers less than an hour prior. Jake’s dad doesn’t act like you’re even at the table, seemingly content to ignore you and his youngest son. He converses with Will, Henry, Hannah, Melissa, and his wife in turn, pausing to listen to the twins’ babbling too. Maggie gets her own share of her dad’s attention too. It seems to be only Beth, Eliza, Jake and you who get unilaterally ignored.
From what you can see, it seems to suit Eliza and Beth just fine, but it’s Jake that most of your attention is on. You know how much he craves his dad’s attention, whether he admits it or not, so this has to cut deep. Would things be different if you weren’t here? A part of you isn’t sure if it would be. Jake would be facing his dad’s unnecessary disapproval alone. At least he won’t open his mouth and say the truly cutting things he wants to if there is a stranger in the house? You can hope, anyhow.
The tension dissipates some as in the cover of night, everyone separates and gets loaded into the many pickup trucks waiting in the driveway to undertake what you’re told very excitedly by Mama Georgie, is a Seresin family Christmas tradition. It’s not cold exactly, but you still climb into the bed of the pickup truck Will’s driving easily, accepting the blanket Jake draws over your lap and the thermos Mama Georgie hands you. Jake, of course, settles in next to you, and you have no qualms about cuddling into his arms.
As the cars start moving, Jake tells you how each year the Seresins drive into Austin to view all of the Christmas light displays on December 23rd with hot chocolate in hand. On Christmas Eve, the tree gets finished. When you ask him what that means, he grins and tells you how the tree’s final ornaments are the popcorn garlands the kids make and some tinsel. Each member of the family gets a singular present to open on Christmas Eve. Come Christmas morning, over breakfast, the gifts are opened and everyone meets up again for family dinner out in one of the big barns. That’s when you’ll meet his aunts, uncles, and cousins.
All of a sudden it seems like you’re going to be inundated with a lot of Seresins in not a lot of time. But that’s not what’s bothering you. You curl your hand around Jake’s cheek, gently pulling his lips to yours in a sweet kiss.
“What was that about, Jay?” Your voice is a whisper just loud enough to be heard in the scant inches of space between the two of you.
“Dad? At dinner?” Jake’s eyes glint golden in the dim starlight illuminating the way. Will’s truck is last in line and you and Jake are alone in the bed. “That is his way of punishing his kids. He hates that I joined the Navy instead of doing what he wanted.”
You have a sick, foreboding feeling in your stomach as you ask your next question. “Then why is he ignoring Eliza and Beth?”
Jake’s chuckle is equally mirthless. “He hates that Eliza is gay. Dad is just old-fashioned enough to hate it at home. But outwardly he pretends to be all tolerant and shit so none of his soon-to-be constituents take offense. It’s horribly two-faced. Eliza and Dad had a bunch of fights the first time Eliza brought Beth home. For Mama’s sake he tolerates Beth. The only way he knows how to do that is to ignore them.”
You wrap your arms even tighter around Jake, your mind ticking along at a mile a minute. You understand Henry Seresin even less now.
As advertised, the lighting displays are gorgeous and Christmas Eve passes in as much idyllic calm as it can with three children and 12 adults occupying the same house. Things start racing off the rails during the annual Christmas Eve present unwrapping. Thankfully you’d thought ahead and purchased presents for every member of Jake’s family, and it seems like there is a pile of presents under the tree for you as well. The adults are sipping on boozy homemade eggnog as James and Jordan hand out the gifts with Will’s help.
One by one, each person opens their Christmas Eve pre-Santa gift. Jake had picked out your gift to open and he’d graced you with his special soft smile at the sight of his grandfather’s watch restored and ticking in perfect order. Finally, the only person who hasn’t opened a gift is you. In all honesty, you’re not upset at all, holding James in your lap as the little boy had taken a shine to you. Between one second and the next all of the noise dies down. Even James’ babble silences and when you look up, it’s to the sight of Jake, in his goofy Christmas-themed pajamas, on one knee in front of you.
“J-Jay? What are you doing?” You can’t believe your eyes.
“I know we usually open a gift on Christmas Eve, but what I’m asking you might just be the best gift I’ve ever received in my life. My gorgeous girl, you’ve stuck with me through thick and thin. Since the day we met, you’ve had me wrapped around your fingers. I love you so much. Would you do me the honor of making me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”
Tears drip down your face as you nod and Jake pushes the band onto your ring finger. He kisses you, soft and sweet, keeping it light, standing there in the living room of his happiest place on earth. What startles the two of you apart is the banging of a door down the hall. When you pull away, the only person missing is his dad. Guess he doesn’t approve then. But you can’t dwell on Jake’s dad. Not when you have a fiancé, a fiancé, to hug and kiss, again, and a room full of his loved ones welcoming you into the family. You go to bed that night a little tipsy and with your heart so full of love for Jake and for his family.
The atmosphere when you wake up on Christmas morning is a little bit different. The living room is awash with the twins’ laughter as they demolish the gift wrapping into shards of brightly colored confetti. All of the adults are sleepily smiling at the boys as they carry gifts to each adult in turn. All of the adults, that is, other than Jake’s dad. The oldest male in the room is glaring gloomily, mustering a smile only when James or Jordan toddles towards their grandfather. For the most part, despite the glares, you enjoy yourself.
It’s when the family gathers for Christmas dinner before the party in the barn that the apple cart topples over in earnest. You bow your head for grace dutifully, though you’re not religious in the slightest. It’s as dishes are being passed back and forth down the long wooden table groaning under the weight of all of the food on it that Jake’s dad opens his mouth again.
“Jacob.” The entire table seems to hush at his words, all conversation snuffed out. That one word has you lying your utensils down, swallowing, taking a sip of water and patting your lips with your napkin. Jake’s tense at your side as he does the same thing.
“Yes, sir?” Jake’s conciliatory, keeping his eyes trained on his plate.
“Look at me when I’m speaking to you, boy.” Jake’s hands drop to his sides as he stares at his father on command. You place your hand in his, taking comfort in the way his big thumbs run lightly over the emerald embedded in the shining silver now on your left hand.
“Are you thinking this through? I’m sure she’s nice enough, but what makes you think she’s appropriate for a man in your social standing?” Your eyes widen, and you see anger on Mama Georgie’s face for the first time since you met her.
“Appropriate for a man of my social standing?” From that tone alone, you’re bracing for a fight. “I wasn’t aware I had a social standing, Pops.”
You can picture the way Jake’s lips pop as he says those words. But you can’t look away from Jake’s dad. Not now that you know that Jake has picked a fight. A fight he’s determined to win.
“Ridiculous. I thought the Navy was supposed to teach discipline, not show my son how to whore around. Is she knocked up? Is that why you brought that cheap little slut into my house and introduced her to your brothers and sisters? To your niece and nephews?” You can’t even begin to get angry, not when you can sense the entire force of Jake’s anger emanating in waves from his body. His hand is gentle as he holds yours despite his rage.
“What did you say about her?” It’s a hissed out sentence. You don’t know when, but Hannah and the twins are no longer at the table. Neither is baby Sarah. It’s good that the kids are out of the blast radius of this particular fight.
“You heard me, son.” You’ve never heard more condescending words in your entire life.
“I did hear you, Dad.” Jake inhales deep, the sound whooshing out like bellows filled with hot air.
“I wanted to make sure that I heard the right thing. Let’s get one thing clear. I found the love of my life in San Diego. She’s not a whore, she’s not knocked up, though that’ll happen as soon as she lets me put a baby in her. She’s not cheap. My gorgeous girl is the most amazing woman I’ve ever met. You’re not in the Navy so you have no idea what it does to a relationship to be apart from someone for months, maybe years at a time when you love them. It takes a special person to withstand the deployments, the stress, the injuries, all of it. I found that person and I asked her to marry me. I brought her home because I wanted her to have a support net, people she could rely on when I’m deployed so she’s not alone in a house like a mausoleum all by herself.”
“I’m in my right mind, old man. I know exactly what I’m doing. I’ve been thinking about marrying her since the night I met her. There isn’t another woman in the world for me.” When Jake kisses the ring on your finger, you have to hide your smile.
That’s not the only time, either. Jake’s dad is flushed with his anger, his eyes bulging out of his head at the sight of you still sitting by his son.
“Georgia.” His voice is full of rage as he spits out his wife’s name.
“Where did we go wrong? These two,” he growls, gesturing at Jake and Eliza in turn. “Why do they always have to be such fucking embarrassments? You let Jake spend too much time with your dad so the little idiot joined the Navy and brought back a woman who probably couldn’t sit through a fancy dinner without embarrassing the family. And then there’s Eliza.”
At her name, Eliza tenses in entirety, her big green eyes wide as they stare between her father and her brother.
“Our daughter couldn’t even turn out right, huh? If I had my way she would’ve been married to the youngest Johnson boy. He’s perfectly respectable. But no. We let her go to college in New York and she came back with a girlfriend. Disgraces, both of them.”
Jake’s just about to open his mouth in defense of his clearly distraught sister when a chair squeals against the hardwood floor as it is pushed violently away from the table. It’s Henry, glaring at his father.
“Jake, Will, Eliza, Maggie, Mel. We’re leaving. Now.” It doesn’t surprise you at all that all the siblings fall in line.
“Where do you think you’re going?” It’s another painfully tense moment between father and son.
“I’m going to celebrate Christmas with my siblings. My siblings who I love because of who they are, not the political power they’ll bring me.”
He turns to Mama Georgie sitting in shock at the other end of the long, long dinner table. “I’m sorry, Mama. I can’t sit here and hear my siblings and their fiancée’s get insulted like this, not anymore. It’s something I should’ve done months ago, when Eliza first brought Bethie home.”
“Will you at least take some of the food with you?” You’re not sure how Mama Georgie’s keeping her composure even as her eyes are glassy with unshed tears.
“Yeah, Mama. Eliza, can you help Mama pack up enough food for all of us?” You’re not surprised in the slightest to see all of the Seresin siblings jump into action.
“Jake and Beth. Can you grab your bags? The four of you will stay with Will and Hannah or Mel and I. We can figure out who’s staying where in a bit.” Jake nods, standing up before walking to his eldest brother and hugging him.
You follow him up the stairs to the guest bedroom and sit on the bed, packing the few things you’d left out into your suitcase again. Jake’s silent as he walks to and fro, packing his things. You stop him as he grabs a sweater from the foot of the bed, pulling him in between your legs. You know what his dad said made him feel terrible when he can’t even meet your eyes.
“Jay?” You tug on his hands gently. “Can you look at me?”
When his eyes finally meet yours, you’re shocked to see the normally clear, sage pools bloodshot and worried. His brow is furrowed and you pull him until he sits heavily down on the bed next to you.
“What’s going on, Jay?” You rest your head on his shoulder, entwining your arms with his as you cuddle in close.
“Baby, you heard him. You know exactly why I never wanted to bring you home. For all I know, you’re going to return this ring and walk away, just because of my family.” This is what your gorgeous, beautiful, sweet man is worried about?
“I love your family, Jay. Your mom, brothers, sisters, sisters-in-laws, niece and nephews, I love them all. Your family are the people who show you love, who love you unconditionally. They’re your family. Not the man who’s only ever spoken to you like that.” Your voice is soft as you play with his fingers.
“I’m not breaking up with you because of some words somebody I don’t even know says about me. We’ve been through far too much to end because of something like that.” Jake’s chuckle is soft as he pecks your lips gently.
“We really have, haven’t we?” His voice is just as soft as yours as he cups your jaw. “I love you, baby doll. I’m sorry this Christmas got destroyed. I’m sorry our engagement was overshadowed by my dad’s hissy fit.”
“Nothing could ruin how happy I was when you asked me to marry you last night. I love you.” You tug Jake into a sweet kiss before grabbing your bag.
It doesn’t surprise you in the slightest when Jake gently lifts it from your hands  as you walk out of the door. It also doesn’t surprise you to see Mama Georgie at the foot of the stairs.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. No matter what my husband says, you’re family to me. I can’t wait to see you marry my son. You make him so happy. That’s all I’ve ever wanted - my children happy.” You’re tearing up at her words as she hugs you tight. “That’s why I gave Jake the ring my father, his Grandpa Jacob, gave my mother.”
“I hope I’ll see you soon.” You answer Mama Georgie in the affirmative and walk out of the house. It doesn’t surprise you at all to hear the roar of “Henry David Seresin” as you walk out the door, not at all.
You spend the remainder of your time in Texas staying with Henry and Melissa in their cute little cottage a little ways away from Seresin Ranch. It’s refreshing being able to just be yourself. Even better is the view from the front porch you get of holding baby Sarah while watching her dad and uncle work up a sweat cutting firewood. This? This is all you think you could ever want. It’s definitely something you want in your own future. A small baby against your chest and their daddy looking at you like you’re everything he’ll ever need. In one sharp longing moment, you realize that’s all you could ever want with Jake.

any huntlow miraculous au ideas ??
Disclaimer: I have not watched miraculous in nearly four years. I do not know what is going on in that show anymore and at this point I'm too afraid to ask.
However the reason I did start watching it for a time was because I was intrigued by the concept. I liked this idea of different facets of your personality only on display depending on the identity you're presenting and how mixed up that can get when it's a romance between two people who know each other with and without the mask and how the relationships shift depending on that. It's very basic superhero trope stuff but idk it scratches the little part of my brain that's obsessed with psychology and messy convoluted character dynamics. So the idea of doing something like that with huntlow DOES sound cool. But I have no concrete ideas.
Me personally I don't like doing AUs with huntlow unless it keeps them in the Boiling Isles setting and it keeps their respective backgrounds as GG and half-a-witch Willow. So I'm not big on Human AUs. So I wouldn't think too much about a typical miraculous AU myself. I'll leave that to other people to have their fun with. I love the miraculous AU art they do 💕
But WHAT IF. WHAT IF WHAT IF
Okay okay okay. So what if we start off with the idea of Willow having a celebrity crush on the Golden Guard. Remember that AU? So lets say its pre-season 1. So Willow is still in the abomination track and is kinda a shrinking violet. So the Golden Guard happened to rescue her once and now she's all smitten over how cool and confident he is.
Anyway, Willow is forbidden from doing plant magic. However Willow loves to do plant magic. So her solution to this is to do plant magic in secret. One thing leads to another and now she sneaks out of the house every night and uses her magic to assist civilians in need. She's never really had a chance to let loose with her powers before. It makes her feel so cool and strong. Plus she really does empathize with how it feels to be vulnerable so she likes to help when she can. So she's developed a little bit of a superhero-ish alter ego.
The aesthetic of this is just making me go insane. Like the plant based superhero costume Willow would fashion for herself. It'd be so dorky and over-the-top. Im seeing shit like a poofy little dress, a skirt made out of giant flower petals, boots made of leaves, vines snaking all over her limbs. Fairycore vibes. I also really like the idea of using her magic to spread a cluster of tiny flowers around her eyes in the shape of a domino mask.
She calls herself "Force of Nature" (or "Force" for short.) And honestly, the name suits the person she becomes. When she's taking on this identity, Willow's full chaotic side comes out. She's got a big personality. She's ruthless, she's talkative, she's mischievous, she's everything that's always been bubbling under her surface. I wanna say she even takes a little inspiration from the trademark Golden Guard dazzle.
Now Hunter is the Golden Guard and he believes it's his duty to help and protect people of the Boiling Isles. However, he begins to notice that Belos is constantly preventing him from doing so. Hunter keeps getting sent on tedious tasks to collect ingredients for his uncle's experiments or deal with business matters or WHATEVER. There is a distinct lack of helping going on here. And everytime he tries to respectfully point it out, Belos insists that the work Hunter does is important. Admittedly, Hunter is beginning to get a little frustrated. He certainly doesn't want to believe that his uncle is wrong (His uncle is never wrong.) Buuuuut maybe his uncle just isn't seeing the big picture correctly. Maybe he just needs a little convincing.
So this is when Hunter commits himself to sneaking out of the castle at night and helping all the people that the Golden Guard was too busy to help. If he used his GG persona, word would get around and he'd be in trouble for disobeying. So Hunter opts to carry out these deeds unmasked. He might have a special outfit for the occasion but his full face is on display. Doing these things has nothing to do with building Hunter's confidence, it's just to do what's right.
He keeps a journal where he documents all the good he's done while carrying out this secret job and intends to hand it over to Belos once it's full so his uncle will finally understand. The mental gymnastics are insane here. Deep down, Hunter knows Belos would kill him if he ever found out and he's taking this secret to his grave. But the journal helps him feel less disobedient so we'll let him have this.
Anyway of course Willow and Hunter eventually cross paths and decide to work together for the greater good. A friendship is formed and it does not take long before Hunter falls head over heels for Force of Nature. And because he's so transparently himself with none of his Golden Guard swag, he's a shy blushy mess around her. It doesn't help that she's one of the only people besides Belos to call him by name.
(He didn't tell her his name at first. It only slipped out after he developed a crush and he found that he had a really hard time saying no to her.)
Meanwhile Willow is very fond of Hunter. However, I feel like she's kinda blocked herself off from entertaining the idea that she might have feelings for him because of her crush on the Golden Guard. It's a very idealized crush and she's built it up so much in her head that it subconsciously prevents her from even thinking about anyone else in a romantic light. But I think some feelings for Hunter might be sneaking up on her without her noticing.
Anyway Willow has hung around Bonesborough often enough that she knows the exact times the Golden Guard shows up for patrol. She slinks around the areas where he's known to meet with people and discuss business. She'll wander around town on weekends just for the off chance of spotting him. However, though she's brave enough to march right up and say hello, she really hasn't a clue how to talk to him like a normal person so all that comes out is word vomit. (Again, this is pre-season 1 Willow. A bit of a nervous wreck.) Anyway she's stopped to "talk" with him enough times that he remembers who she is now. So that's a start!
On Hunter's end, there's this one schoolgirl who he usually meets in town and she's a massive stroke to his ego. She's clearly starstruck with him and he's eating it up. He's constantly playing up the GG persona for her to the point that it's almost flirtatious. He doesn't really notice that he's doing this and doesn't understand that she might take that the wrong way. Hunter doesn't have any strong opinions about Willow Park. She's sweet, she's a little awkward and he humors her whenever they meet. But he doesn't really form a deep friendship with her for quite a while because it can be very difficult to make connections when you're playing a character.
Anyway. There's a basic premise for your consideration. Hijinks ensue and whatnot.

THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING GILMORE GIRLS: SEASON 3, EPISODE 3-“Application Anxiety"
I'm once again going to need my mutuals to tell me if they see this on their dashboard. It occured to me that I'd suddenly experienced a massive memory black-out about what happens in S3 between episode 3 and up to the Dance Marathon. And I fancy myself pretty knowledgable about season 3. In addition to Francie and her squad, I'm assuming that the truly insane number of new characters that are intoduced in s3-Alex, Nicole, Lindsay, Dave Rygalski and the other members of Hep Alien and probably more I'm forgetting- may all be introduced in this span of time? It's going to be a jam packed roller coaster ride of new people. Soo jammy. Oh god, and I just remembered LIZ. Does she make her debut in season 3 or 4? I don't know. I fear it may be season 3. Have mercy on poor Salty. I'm scared. Fun fact: I was on YouTube recently, and rediscovered an early 2000's MTV cartoon called 3South, a truly absurd work of art about a pair of idiot college students. This is the type of stuff I was watching while the rest of the Youth at the time were watching...Gilmore Girls. Anyway I heard an an unmistakable voice and realized it was none other than Kathleen Wilhoite (Liz Danes) playing.... a raging alcoholic who frequently gets run over by cars.

This episode is called "Application Anxiety". The Netflix synopsis hints at the introduction of the fandom's fave, and also the favorite snack of the Male Gilmore Girls Character California Wormhole, Rygalski. Other than that, mayhaps we have a sort of filler episode on our hands here. I can remember the events of most S3 episodes by their title, but this one isn't ringing any bells, besides the fact that Rory and Paris must, uh, be anxious about college applications. I call anything "filler" that doesn't involve a lot of man or boy drama. The episode opens with Lorelai and Rory snarking on some more corny entertainment from the days of yore, this time some kind of Brady Bunch variety hour. Fine. It's at least more fun and modern than "Shane" and Andy Hardy, it's recognizable to the masses watching GG, it's in color, and they're having fun watching it. Two...no, three...no FOUR observations:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.Lorelai keeps a picture of Sookie and Jackson on her living room end table 2. The mailman, Eddie, walks through their open door and directly into their home without knocking or announcing himself to deliver the mail. Rory and Lorelai don't blink at the intrusion. Eddie looks like a catch, Lorelai. Steady government job. Enjoys sticking his package into slots. Has no respect for privacy or personal boundaries. You love that shit. Go for it. 3.Clown Pillow. 4.Lorelai's shirt. CUUTE.

I let my guard down for mere seconds.
"Holmes & Yoyo is an American comedy television series that aired on ABC for 13 episodes during the 1976-1977 season. The series follows police detective Holmes and his new android partner, Yoyo, on their misadventures investigating crimes." You have GOT to be fucking kidding me, AmyShermanPalladino. At least I've heard of HeeHaw.

Rory looks like a scared little mouse holding her Harvard application. Rory references a book she's been reading called Dead Souls. I looked it up. "Dead Souls is a novel by Nikolai Gogol, first published in 1842, and widely regarded as an exemplar of 19th-century Russian literature. The novel chronicles the travels and adventures of Pavel Ivanovich Chichikov (Russian: Павел Иванович Чичиков) and the people whom he encounters. These people typify the Russian middle aristocracy of the time." Some light reading right there. When I tell you Lorelai (not Rory) nearly has an orgasm holding the Harvard envelope (it's not Rory's acceptance/rejection letter, it's just the application itself). She needs to get laid by someone who isn't Crusty. #AlexAlexAlex A moment later Rory and Lorelai are in the kitchen going over the application. Lane suddenly barges into the kitchen out of nowhere, states her dilemma in under a minute, then immediately exits. Bye? I feel like we haven't seen Lane in a while, but now we're going to get a lot of her this season. Lane is planting the seeds for Hep Alien and has placed a "Drummer seeks Rock Band" classified ad in the paper (how quaint). I just saw Adam Brody's name in the opening credits, so it's almost Rygalski Time. I like Dave, I really do. But I guess I just don't assign him the God- like status some people do. I only worship one deity and it's Jesstopher Mariano. And he's a fucking full time job.
Tumblr media
Rory is drinking a can of Hansen's brand soda. The brand apparently still exists, although I have never seen it in the wild. I'm thinking Hansen's sponsored this show or something because this is all Rory ever drinks soda wise, including at the Chilton cafeteria, along with her favorite sandwich of two slices of white bread with nothing in between. And a better shot of Loreai's shirt. I want one.
Tumblr media
Lorelai says this in reference to the application asking for Rory's picture (is that actually a thing?) Ladies and gentlemen, TWO Modern Entertainment references (the caption cut off Spongebob). Back on her home planet, AmyShermanPalladino must have just signed up for the ultra deluxe premium Earth cable package that included Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Welcome to the early 21st century. Straight off of Harvard's own website, from their archives, dated October 3rd, 1958: "The University will not require photographs from any applicants to the Medical School, the Law School, and the College this year. This decision was made in compliance with the Massachusetts Commision against Discrimination's December, 1957 ruling that all schools in the state must stop requesting pictures from applicants." Yes, since 1957 it has been literally illegal for colleges in Massachussets to ask for photos from applicants. Carry on.
Tumblr media
Who's "they"? Luke knows Lorelai, and Dean Forrester's mom doesn't acknolwedge she has a son so she can't care if he drinks coffee. Where is the display stand of Doritos that used to be behind Luke? Is there a Dorito shortage in Stars Hollow? There is little else to make life in Stars Hollow worth living.
Tumblr media
Dean's chores: Whacking off to pictures of Lorelai, hogging oxygen from more deserving people, stacking cans of corn at Doose's.
Tumblr media
Rory doesn't know anything about jobs. Full time, part time, hand, blow...none of it.
Tumblr media
Oh god. Not another negotiation! What is Rory going to agree to this time in exchange for Dean agreeing to a movie she wants to see?
Tumblr media
Dean was actually paying attention to Rory when she discussed her plans for the weekend? That was a plot twist I never saw coming. Me keeping my little eye on Dean because he's acting a bit too nice right now
Tumblr media
Rory informs Dean she is going to write her college essay about Hilary Clinton.
Tumblr media
WHAT? DEAN IS BEING SUPPORTIVE? HE'S UP TO SOMETHING. At first I was going to put my money on Dean making a sexist remark about women in poltiics, then I thought he won't because he doesn't even know who Hillary Clinton is and he'll probably ask Rory, because he has melted crayons for brains, and I was right. Rory asks Dean if he's ever watched Hilary speak and we come to find he only knows who she is because of Rory's insistence that he watch her speeches.
Tumblr media
I'll give you this one Deano. That sounds like literal hell on earth and I'm sorry you had to endure that. Even you don't deserve that. I hope Rory at least gave you some handjobs for that one (she didn't) Still a long 14 years away from the 2016 presidential election fiasco, Rory speaks of Ms Clinton's future in politics with sunny optimism. Nobody tell her. Dean tut tuts and shakes his head while Rory talks about Hilary but he appears to be listening and keeping his trap shut, so that's a first. Rory skips out the door without paying for her breakfast as per yoozh, leaving Dean to pick up the tab. Luke strolls by the table. L:She's fast. D: It's the coffee. L: Not your face? Hahahahahaha!! GET HIM LUKE! She has picked up a nice fear-sprint in the two years she's been dating Dean though. Making a quick exit is a vital survival skill when you're dating a serial killer psycopath. Luke looks out the window to see Taylor photographing the building in a suspicious manner. Cut to Chilton and Paris is having another nuclear panic-meltdown over the non-perfection of some school related mumbo jumbo. Rory and Paris are hosting a seminar at school about the college application process.
Tumblr media
Both some college admissions reviewer dork attending the seminar and Paris agree that writing essays about Hilary Clinton is passe. Admissions Dork says reading so many essays about Hilary Clinton is making his head explode. Paris says nobody over the age of 12 would write about Hilary Clinton. IMMEDIATE rejection to Harvard if you write your essay about Hilary Clinton. If you write your essay about Hilary Clinton, some goons from Harvard will visit your home in the middle of the night and break your kneecaps. You're fucked, RoryGil. Things Googled While Watching Gilmore Girls Holmes and Yo Yo, Dead Souls, Do Colleges Require Photos with Applications. I was already well versed on Hansen's soda, because I'd already researched it in the days of yore (2020) when I wrote about GG on Twitter.

Regarding the GG virginity plot line., ASP wanted Jess to be around in season 4 and for Rory and Jess to have some form of semi friendship following the ILY bomb. The Dean stuff with Rory was planned but not the sex part. Think of it like she uses L*gan like a security blanket in AYITL. She would have ultimately had a moment with Jess and lost her virginity but would still have met and been with L*gan. That's pretty much what ASP has hinted to over the years. But would she have done it? She said she would make Alexis and Milo be in another revival for the endgame and that's never hapenning lol
Hi Anon,
Yeah ASP says a lot of things. I heard things about her saying that she did want Rory to lose her virginity to an ex while they weren't together. Maybe originally it was going to be Jess but since he was primarily gone and Dean was still in the picture they maybe just went with it. I hate it that Rory has to remember that as her first time! 😢 I agree she was using Logan like a security blanket and something familiar to distract her from the real things she was dealing with internally which was grieving her grandfather's death. Rory doesn't process her emotions well all the time and similar to her state of mind in season 4 how she felt she was going to break because she kept pushing her feelings down because she was still heartbroken over Jess, and her dad starting a whole new family and he was going to be the father to his new daughter that she never got from him, and her feeling overwhelmed by school on top of it, and all of these things led to her breakdown in season four and Dean was like a security blanket for her at that time similar to how she was in a year in the life. She was grieving and she reached a burnout in her career due to the depression she was in from losing her grandfather and turned to Logan for comfort as her security blanket similar to season 4. I think if Jess stayed she would have eventually probably had a moment where her and Jess did have sex, but I think Milo still would have left and it would have led to Rory being heartbroken more afterwards. If only we knew what could have happened if Milo had signed that six year contract it may have been a better outcome for them. I've also heard that ASP would have wanted them to eventually be endgame, but she also said about ayitl "what would you have rather see Rory end up with Jess what's the fun in that" she thought the drama would be more fun apparently and having Rory struggling 😒😔 I do still think Rory and Jess would be endgame if the show continued but ASP likes a lot of drama that stops her ships from getting together or tearing them apart when they are finally in a happy place she did it with Luke and Lorelai throughout the show and Jess and Rory too. She finally gave Luke and Lorelai their happy ending but it took a while similarly I think that is what ASP was going for with Literati too. She definitely did want them both to come back and probably does want them to be endgame but she also loves drama! 😑 Why won't she just let my babies be happy! 😭💔

As I'm sure many of you know, Scott Patterson who played Luke on Gilmore Girls has a Gilmore Girls-themed podcast and Jared made an appearance in one of the recent episodes.
Before we hop into it from henceforth Scott Patterson is gonna appear as SP and Gilmore Girls as GG.
So this interview was uploaded on Oct 6th, but it was done after Kansas con weekend (23rd to the 25th Sept) we know this because near the end of the panel Jared mentions he had been with Jensen the past weekend in Kansas City.
SP asks Jared how things are going and how the family is doing, Jared says they're great and he gives the kid's names, ages, and school grades. Says O is 5 but thinks she’s 35, and rules the roost, and that it's his day off and he was an hour outside of Austin that he and G snuck out there to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
I believe he got away from the hustle and bustle of the city, not sure about his supposed company.
Then SP says he’s in Nova Scotia right now filming a project. That it’s beautiful there, and one of his co-stars is Chad Michael Murray. He doesn't mention what it is he's filming but I was curious so I looked up it's a new show called Sullivan's Crossing.
Jumping right into the questions, was GG Jared's first acting gig that he got hired for? Not technically. Between junior and senior high, he won a contest to be a presenter at the first teen choice awards. At the afterparty, he met Dan Spilo who is his manager to this day, and Spilo asked if he did acting to which Jared replied that he acted in school, and did speech-and-debate, that he loved acting so Spilo gave him his card and told him to keep in touch.
Jared went back to San Antonio to finish his senior year of high school, and Spilo would send him scripts. He would memorize his lines in the script and his mom would film him while she was reading the other character's lines, and Spilo told him he thought he had talent and he could work.
Says his plans were to go to UT Austin and do engineering and premed like his brother had done. And that while his parents were supportive of his acting they thought it sounded like a pipe dream and wanted him to have a backup plan which he was okay with, he was excited to go to Austin and build a life there but then during spring break of his senior year, which fell on Pilot season, he flew out and got a Pilot for a series called Silent Witness which did not get picked up, and that at first his parents were like "okay, you gave it a shot" then the check came in for the Pilot and they were like "follow your dreams son!" 😆He put some of that money away for school then used the rest to drive to Cali with his papaw, his grandfather from his mother’s side. He stayed over at Spilos' house, and did some auditions, and he says back in the 2000s if you were a teenage white dude there was a role for you in every project being made so he got tons of auditions, he booked a guest spot on ER, a movie called A Little Inside, and a four ep guest stint on GG which hadn't aired yet.
At the same time that he got offered those 4 eps on GG he was also offered an independent movie that paid 10 times the money and another that paid 6 times the money. GG hadn’t even aired yet he was this kid who grew up in a small house he was thinking about the money but his agent and manager told him that they thought the show had legs, was intelligent, charming, and heartwarming, and convinced him to grab the GG role instead of the movies.
What does he remember about the audition? He remembers going in, and to the best of his recollection, his first audition was with Lauren and Jaime. They seemed to love him, and he felt like they dug him but he doesn’t know how much of it was them being lovely and professional so he didn’t want to get his hopes up in case they were just nice because he was a kid. Then they brought him back in to audition for Amy and Gavin and they also seemed to dig him, and it was a classic audition room some people were acting really calm and cool while others were acting like they didn't know what they were doing; he went into the room and he said his lines two or three times, had a good feeling from Amy, he felt like she could tell that he was an actor. That he didn’t want to be famous he understood that if he became a successful actor fame might be a part of the equation but he was there to try and tell a story, not for the fame. He had lived 17yrs in Texas, gone to school, and lived a normal life and he thinks that in Amy's mind at least that was refreshing for Dean cause he was a small-town-minded kind of guy even though he grew up in Chicago. He felt at home in Stars Hollow cause he was kind of a low-key guy and Jared was a low-key kid.
SP says the thing that struck all of them was how good of an actor Jared was at such a young age that he was blowing them away, and that his character had one of the greatest character introductions he has ever seen on TV when he meets Rory and they do the book exchange that he was the coolest guy and Jared really knew how to play it and how to handle it. So as critical as he can be with other people’s work he was stunned at how good Jared was and still is that every performance he gave was flawless, and they gush about Jared's performances on the podcast. It was above and beyond what everybody expected and SP didn’t realize until he watched the show how good Jared was.
What was it like meeting Alexis and working with her? She too was a kid from Texas who didn’t know she was going to be on tv, he doesn't know her exact story although he says he would love to know it. But she too was also kind of a fish out of water so that was helpful.
Jared says his comfort zone is acting and focusing on the story. When he got GG it was just 4 eps that's all he had signed a contract for and he thought it was cool that he got to explore a character in more than one ep cause a lot of auditions at the time were for one episode guest slots but with GG he was like "oh 4 episodes how neat".
That in the best way possible he always felt like a guest on the set, even in the seasons where he had more episodes or was more heavily involved in the eps he was in, and that he was famous for how many cookies he would eat every day. He didn't have a lot of money at the time, he had rent to pay so he would go at the end of the day and see if there was any leftover food and there was a big platter of Hollywood company cookies. He shares that one time, maybe during s2 or 3, he was getting more into fitness and aware of calories and it was the early 2000s lots of messages about avoiding saturated fat and getting more fiber, and he randomly called the cookie company one day cause he would eat 8 or 9 of the things and they were not small cookies they were like pancakes. He calls them up and asked for the nutrition like the fats, and calories and stuff so he knew how much to work out to burn it off and the response was "do you like the cookies?" and Jared goes "I love them!" and they tell him"let’s just say this. As much as you love them that’s how many calories they have" they made it clear those cookies were made with love and butter. Says he misses them, they were white chocolate macadamia cookies.
Honestly, fuck the early 2000s view on food, and the damage it has caused in all of us. I hope he has grown a healthier relationship with food, one that doesn't involve worrying about how many calories the cookies he enjoys has and how he's gonna work them off.
Anyways he says through school he had done plays, and debate, and speech and he just loved storytelling. He’s always been a fan of those people who tell a story and everyone is captivated and can make you laugh or cry or both. And at the time while he was filming he still had his housing assignment and secondhand books and thought he’d make as much money as possible and then go back to school. So he was like 'enjoy it while you can'; it wasn’t his career yet, he was thinking the money he could make filming those eps were gonna be helpful to pay for his loans. So he worked really hard on his scenes, and he remembers the exact amount of the paycheck for his first ep of GG. It was 1,234 and he when he got paid he thought he was loaded.
SP says Jared came at it with gratitude and no expectations and Jared comments that even now he comes at it with gratitude. For him, he just really enjoys the work that goes into it and the filming of the scene is the least exciting part what he loves is the rehearsal process whether that's with or without somebody else. His fav part is going through a tv show over and over again and then getting to set to see what sticks and what the rest of the cast and crew wanna do.
Is he similar to Dean? Was he similar to him in high school? In high school, no. He didn't have the confidence Dean had; Dean had a quiet confidence from the get that Jared learned from. He was still 17 he was a kid in every way he'd never left the country, only left the state like twice in his life and it was with his family. San Antonio isn’t a small town but he was kind of a small-town kid, his life was the 3-mile radius around his house which was made up of the grocery store, his school, and his friend's house so maybe similar to Dean because he grew up in Chicago but felt at home in a smaller microcosm. He thinks that was similar, and that he certainly had similarities- he feels like he learned a lot from Dean, that Amy and the gang wrote a character that was really lovable, he had some hiccups across the seasons, but he started out just a good kid.
He mentions there was a scene he was talking about with one of the crew members on Walker and she told him her fam and she were always team Dean and he was like "really?" and she said yeah that the scene where he and Lorelai are eating pizza and talking about his motorcycle seemed sweet, it was wholesome.
SP says one of the ballsiest things he's ever seen a character do on the show is when Dean was over for a movie night and Rory excused herself leaving him and Lorelai alone, and she gave him the speech (the don't hurt my daughter or I'll hurt you speech) and after Lorelie is done he doesn't miss a beat and goes my turn.
That it was very impressive, does Jared remember filming that? He does. He remembers they were all on stage and he remembers the set and he thinks they were on stage 14 or 16.
He also remembers that behind the camera early on in the first season he doesn't remember what he was doing but he was being a little shit and SP walked him into the school set and gave him a talking to because at the time Jared was just playing he was doing the things he would do in school when rehearsing for a play, and the message he remembers from that talk was "hey, we’re working here" and he remembers going "I needed to hear that, right here right now" cause if he wanted to make a career out of it he needed to remember they weren't there to play, it's a job the studio or network was spending millions of dollars. So he thanks SP for that.
The things SP remembers most about Jared on set were their discussions about training and Jared wanting to gain weight. Jared remembers there was a time when he got to set and shook SP's hand not knowing SP had been kickboxing and had like a fracture.
What does he remember about having to film the high school party fight scene with Milo? And how log did it take with that choreography? It was shot at the WB ranch and he feels like they shot it in a night.
GG was known for being a long day he remembers driving off the lot on other occasions at like 6am and driving past the guards and them being like "GG?". They shot in November or December from 6pm to 6 am and Milo was super fit that when you're doing a stunt sequence with somebody who is not super physically capable it’s worrisome cause you don’t know if he's coordinated and you think you're gonna get hurt but he didn’t feel that way with Milo. Milo is fit and seemingly always has been and still is and so he remembers thinking it was gonna be fun, it was a good time. And they’ve always gotten along extremely well, so it helps a lot when you trust and respect those you're working with especially in a physical sequence.
He also says Milo helped show him the ropes cause even a season into GG he was still a white belt, and shares the lunch story about how Milo is the one who let him know they were allowed to leave set.
Does he know or have any guesses as to who Rory's baby daddy is? He doesn’t know for sure, his understanding is that it has changed a couple of times. He has some guesses but he wouldn’t put it past the Palladino's to change it.
Says that when they did the GG reunion he was supposed to be in more of it but at the time he was shooting SPN in Van so they had to whittle it down and grab him on a free day.
Can he talk about his work when it comes to mental health advocacy? He doesn’t like to say that he has mental health struggles, he prefers to say relationship. Shares the quote about pain and suffering, and says he takes his relationship with his mental health very seriously that he sees a doc every week and has for years. It occurred to him that especially in the early GG years, he thinks he’s always had underlying anxiety mostly but also depression, at times he got pretty bad. He felt like there he was playing pretend for a living, buying a house with money he made, in magazines, making new friends but he would go home and cry sometimes, or sit and not do anything.
There was nothing on paper he could write down that he was unhappy about so he didn't know why he was anxious or sad, and he adds the note that you can feel sad and not be depressed. So he would wonder what was wrong with him, then one day with a lot of friends and family and the fandom it was a leap of faith to open up about this, and he was worried and anticipating judgement but instead, he was met with nothing but love and support. His main message is if you feel like you’re alone, you’re not. Humans are human, we all have highs and lows, and someone can be happy on the outside and sad on the inside and that’s okay no feeling is final; keep your head up and be honest about it. The biggest deal for him was to say he was dealing with something while on the outside he looks like he has everything someone could wish for but that doesn’t mean the brain won't do what it does.
Then there's a little bit of talk about spn, what can he say about that experience of being on a single network and dspn for more than two decades? Says spn was CW before the CW, that season 1 was on WB so for many years spn was the only show on tv that was older than the network that aired it. They had a lot of scares and moments they thought they were done for but they were this little show that could and much like GG, it had a very dedicated audience.
That spn was a really magical show and experience it’s where he met his wife who was on s4 (🙄) and where he got to meet people that have become close friends and family, and it's where he feels he earned his black belt. Anything that could be done on screen he did it on spn, it was a huge blessing and the fandom is outstanding that at the cons he'll see faces he's seen over the decades that it doesn’t feel like star-fan it’s like long-time friends. A shared passion.
SP asks about Jensen. Jared says he just calls him Ackles that he doesn’t think he’s called him Jensen in 12 years.
Is he excited to see how the prequel unfolds? He says yes. This is where he mentions that he had been with Jensen recently in Kansas for the con. Says their kids go to the same school, and that they're dear friends. That he was texting him the day previous because Jensen was talking about some app that you can use to stream tv because sometimes Jared is in his trailer and wants to "watch Walker or whatever"....I love the domesticity but my boy, do you not know Netflix? Hulu? Disney+?
Continuing, he says they talk about all sorts of stuff, that Jensen's a fellow Texan, he grew up in North Dallas, has a wife and three kids and he's (Jared) is a Texan with a wife and three kids, both are country music fans they have lots to talk about; that he's got 3 young kids, and a wife, and a couple of jobs so he doesn't really see anybody unless their last name is Padalecki and live in the same house or they work on Walker (that's a load of bull) but Jensen has directed Walker and they're hoping to get him on board but he's filming in NM right now.
I imagine Jared's internal monologue when talking about Jensen during this podcast was "don't be suspicious" because if you listen to this part of the podcast it's clear, imo, that Jared is being cautious with what he says the most noticeable moment being when he has to pause to figure out how to describe who Jensen is to him after saying that their kids go to the same school, or how he mentions casually texting Jensen and then feels the need to mention they both have wives and that he doesn't really see anybody unless it's his wife and kids or somebody from the set.
SP says that Jensen is a heck of a musician isn’t he? Jared answers that he’s great, he has a great voice, great guitar- that always when they had late nights on spn he’d take his guitar over to Jensen's trailer or vice versa and they’d sit together and strum and play a little bit. Since the day he met him back in 2005, Jensen has been noodling on a guitar and singing his beautiful voice. Even when being cautious the husband jumps out.
Final questions how did Walker come about? During s14 of spn Jensen and he had a conversation and made the decision that it was time to hang up the flannel because their wives and kids lived in Austin and they were working in Van and they felt it was time for them to meet their wives and kids. So they approached the studio network and told them if they did another year it would be their last one. Then talking with Mark Pedowitz who was president of CW at the time he told Jared that if he was ever interested in getting back on camera or developing or something he hoped he would be Jared's first phone call. And Jared sort of tried to talk his way out of it saying it would have to be in Austin and he would want to be a producer to help develop it but Pedowitz was in total agreement.
Jared talked to his manager, and he once again for some reason added the detail that this is the same manager he has had since high school, but anyways he doesn't remember who it was that brought up Walker who is a Texas ranger and the HQ for the rangers is in the Capital of Texas which is Austin so basically it fit and from their initial conversations the idea was always about Walker being a family man who happens to be a ranger, a guy trying the best he can; that he’s been fortunate to have a lot of friends in law enforcement and military and they have difficult jobs but they’re just people. People are people they are human beings with emotions and feelings and highs and lows. He also mentions the oped that he read in the Times about the officer working the border who gave up the badge because they couldn't do what was being asked of them of separating a child from their family.
At the time of this being filmed, he was filming episode 6 of Walker. And he mentioned that Walker Independence had been in development before Walker even aired. That Seamus Fahey who is the showrunner on Walker Independence and was then co-EP for Walker started to think about the Walker family and their roots and he thought there was a story there, Jared agreed and they started to work on it.
Then they do a little GG trivia game and while doing it Jared shares a little LOTR story. So he read the books before the movies came out, and he thinks this was during s3 of GG they were doing a massive scene they shot it on the lot everybody was in it including Ed Herrmann who noticed Jared was reading the book. He went over to Jared and asked him if he was enjoying them, Jared told him he was loving them and that he wanted to get through them before the movies came out, and then Herrmann asked him where he was in the books, Jared replied he was reading Fellowship of the Ring and they had just gone through the mines of Moria. Herrman looks away for a moment then turns back to Jared and recites the passage he had just been reading 5mins ago verbatim.
And that was Jared's appearance on the GG podcast! And this was a lot longer than I expected oh my goodness, if you want to check out the podcast for yourself you can do so through Spotify, Apple Podcast, and iHeart radio.

! spoilers for gossip girl reboot are below !
overall, my biggest hope for the finale was fulfiled - kate was exposed and she is finally in jail. so yeah, i can count that as a win
still, gg reboot worked for me not only because of drama it had (and i am a sucker for drama), but because characters were really interesting and i personally resonated with some of them. so of course i am mad because we were robbed of good ending. luna finally getting her voice and having a storyline only for it to be thrown away like it didn’t happen. monet not being in italy when savannah was there during filming. couldn’t they include her in group scenes? i guess we will never know. oh, and the most boring character like obie being included in main gg plot, Rome plot, gg reveal plot. don’t get me started on this one cause i don’t even understand why they kept him around. zoya finally getting a promising love interest and his scenes with the whole group being cut? such a bad move.
as for triad, i am mad and disappointd. just a week earlier i was clowning myself thinking that they are going to break them three up. and what do we have here? aki and audrey throwing max under the bus again. them completely erasing their whole development only to end up together without any worries about max. and poor max feeling like they both played with him an got tired of him. i feel so sorry for him because he is the one character in this whole reboot who changed the most since the first episode. he is the only one whose development and progress were not forgot about.
thomas doherty is an amazing actor because i also cried with him when he realised that aki and audrey are not in love with him like he is with them. writers are really cruel for letting this scene be in the final cut because once again we have a media example that throuples are just for sex and sex only. once again tv series is proving that polyamory does not exist in a healthy way. once again the golden couple stays together and redeemed character is getting heartbroken. i can’t even describe in words what i am feeling right now because not only the triad had no purpose with this ending, but a character that had so much growth during the series has circled back to point zero. if writers were backing them up and completing most of the storylines because they suspected that the series is not going to be renewed, why letting triad stay this way? why breaking them up and pointing that their whole relationship mattered only to max and leaving aki and audrey together? i am so pissed at creators now. and if before finale i was able to defend them, now i actually can’t.
so, jobie and akidrey are getting their onscreen endgames while other characters get nothing. good to go gg reboot!
my ideal finale of this season would have been if triad broke up - them three breaking up and finding themselves outside of relationship. like we could have finally have their separated storylines and them being independent characters. specifically audrey and aki needed that. so i really hoped that three of them would break up, discover themselves and around season three finale they would realise what they are missing. so starting the last episodes of season three triad would be getting closer again and realising that the three of them are still in love with each other. they would have a confession in season finale and finally getting together in a healthy way (without sneaking behind each other backs and having any doubts) in the beginning of season four. as josh mentioned, he wanted to have four seasons of gg, so as for season four, i imagined characters to have college-related drama. for the triad, i think that they could have had a “will we last long-distance or not” just like seth and summer from the oc in season three. no cheating, no doubting each other, not any of them feeling extra. just regular senior year drama that every high school relationship goes through. i feel really robbed and i would be looking forward reading josh’s interview because i think he is going to share some of their plans for future seasons. also, let’s not forget that initial plan was for triad to be an endgame. so let’s focus on that

Eddie’s alarm clock screamed at six in the morning, rudely awakening you from your peaceful slumber. You groaned, burying your face in your best friend’s chest. “Eddie, turn that hellish noise off and get your ass to school,” you mumbled.
He groaned, fingers tangling into your hair as he pressed his body into yours. “Can’t I just stay home today?”
“Do you wanna fail your senior year again?” you retorted, and he sighed.
“Fine, fine.” Eddie pushed himself upright and practically tumbled out of bed, pulling clothing off of the floor as he went.
You watched him, averting your gaze and feeling your cheeks heat up as he removed his shirt. You swallowed, playing with your hands, and searched your brain for a conversation topic. “So, the last part of your Vecna campaign is tonight.”
“Mhm,” Eddie confirmed, grinning at you as he pulled on an excessive amount of rings. “Excited?”
You nodded, pulling your knees up to your chest. “Sure it’ll be as beautifully sadistic as ever.”
“You bet.” He leaned over to kiss your cheek. “See you later, flower girl.”
You bit your lip and nodded again, trying to ignore the butterflies fluttering around in your chest at the platonic gesture. “Yeah. See you later.”
Eddie left the room and you fell back on his bed with a groan. You heard hysterical laughter and after a moment your brother Klaus bounded into the room, collapsing onto the bed beside you. “Holy shit, you are down bad.” He cackled.
You slapped his arm. “C’mon, Klaus, stop.”
“I mean, so is he.” Klaus turned on his side to look at you.
You pouted. “Please don’t give me hope.”
“I’m a love doctor, dear sister, trust me.”
You laughed, shaking your head. “You’re a mess is what you are.” You got out of Eddie’s bed and Klaus followed you out of the room. “Hungry?”
“Famished,” replied your brother dramatically.
“Waffles?”
He slung an arm around your shoulder. “You know me so well.”
A pounding sounded at the door, and the two of you exchanged a confused glance. You jogged over to the door, swinging it open. “Eddie’s at sch - “ Your eyes widened. “Five?”
“I don’t know who ‘Eddie’ is, but we need to talk,” your brother said, pushing past you into Eddie’s trailer.
You sputtered. “Where have you been?”
“I just got here,” he replied, touching the random knick knacks strewn across the place. “But we have bigger problems than that.”
Your gaze narrowed. “What pro - “
“Is that Five I hear?” Klaus interrupted, walking into the room.
“The devil himself. And apparently he’s discovered another problem.”
Five sighed, sitting down on the sofa. “Doomsday is coming again.”
Your eyebrows creased. “What? But I thought it wasn’t supposed to come till 2019.”
“I thought so too. Till I showed up right in the middle of it.” He looked up at you. “I think our being here, in 1986, has somehow moved the apocalypse to an earlier date.”
You shoved your face into your hands and let out a strangled wail. “You have to be fucking kidding me.”
“Precisely my reaction.” Five cleared his throat. “Do you have anything to drink?”
“Yeah, but Eddie won’t like you getting in his beer,” you replied.
“Yeah, (Y/N)’s the only one he allows to have his stuff.” Klaus nudged you, grinning.
Five was less than amused. “Who the hell is this Eddie guy you keep talking about?”
“(Y/N)’s boyfriend.”
Five’s eyebrows raised.
“He’s not my boyfriend.” You glared at Klaus, then looked back at Five. “He’s our friend who lives here.”
Five nodded, then leaned forward, expression somber. “I need you to help me stop it.”
You sighed, leaning back in your seat. “Do you even know what caused it?”
Five’s lips pressed together. “Maybe.”
You sat up straighter. “Maybe?”
“I saw… something.” The space between his brows creased as he tried to remember. “It was different. The last one, it was like everything had been destroyed. This one… it’s like something had taken over. Turned the world dark. The sky was red, the air was toxic… and in the middle of it all it was like… a corpse. Like a living, sentient corpse. I… I think that’s what caused all of it.”
You exhaled shakily, covering your mouth. “When does it happen?”
“April fourth.”
“That’s in a week!”
“I know,” said your brother grimly.
“Well isn’t that lovely,” said Klaus breezily.
“How do we stop it?” you asked.
“Figure out what the thing is and kill it?” Five answered, but it sounded more like a question.
“How!?”
“I don’t know!” Five threw his hands up. “Maybe there will be something in… I don’t know, newspapers or something? Maybe evil corpse monsters are a regular thing here!”
“That’s a stretch.”
“I know it’s a stretch,” he glared, “but it’s all we got.”
You sighed, feeling defeated. “Fine. But Klaus, you’re coming too.” You bumped his arm.
“I don’t wanna,” he whined.
“I don’t wanna either but I’d rather not let the entire world die again.” You stood up and pulled your brother with you. “Let’s go to the Hawkins Post.”
~
“Can we talk to the head reporter here please?” Five asked the receptionist.
The woman raised an eyebrow, but nodded, jerking her head to an office on the right.
“Thank you,” you said hurriedly, and ran over to it.
Five knocked on the door, and it opened after just a moment.
“Hi, how can I - Five?” None other than your sister Allison stared at you, wide eyed. “(Y/N)? Klaus!?”
“Oh my gosh, Allison.” You attacked her with a hug, and she squeezed you back with a bewildered laugh.
“Where have the three of you been?”
“Klaus and I have been living with a drug dealer and Five just got here,” you replied. “But how the hell didn’t I know you were the head reporter at the Hawkins Post!?”
“Sounds about right.” She smiled, and invited you in. “How long have you and Klaus been here?”
“Klaus got here in 1980,” you replied, “and I just got here a year ago. What about you?”
“Eighty-one,” she told you. “Why are you here now?”
“The apocalypse is coming again,” Five informed her. “And this time it’s even worse. The thing that causes it… it’s not human. It’s like… some sort of sentient corpse.”
Allison looked a mix of horrified, defeated, and exhausted. “Why did you come here, though?”
“We thought there might’ve been some record of… monsters or something,” he said. “We knew it was a stretch, but we didn’t have any other leads.”
The door flew open and a petite girl with short light brown hair stared wide eyed at the four of you. “Did you say monsters?”
You exchanged a nervous look with your siblings.
“Nancy, what are you doing here?” Allison asked the girl.
“I just needed some writing advice,” she replied. “But that doesn’t matter. This is much more important. Have you seen one?”
Five nodded, looking at her intensely. “What do you know?”
Nancy inhaled deeply. “You might wanna sit down for this.”
~
“Holy shit,” Allison breathed as Nancy finished her story.
“Whoa, whoa, wait,” Klaus said. “Did you say there’s a girl who has superpowers?”
Nancy nodded. “Eleven. She can move stuff with her mind, has telepathy and a bunch of other stuff. I know it’s crazy, but - “
“No, that’s not it,” you interrupted. “Do you know when she was born? Where she came from?”
Nancy looked confused. “I- I don’t know. She’s like fifteen now, she came from Hawkins lab and lives in California now.”
“So she’s completely unrelated to us,” Five murmured.
“What do you mean?”
Allison laughed, but it sounded pained. “Now it’s your turn to sit down.”
~
“Oh, my gosh…” Nancy shook her head, wide-eyed.
“Yeah.” You laughed a bit. “What a coincidence that the place we ended up in was just as fucked up as the place we came from?”
“The weird thing is…” Nancy said, “none of the monsters looked like the one you described. It… It must be a new one.”
“Well that’s fuckin’ great,” Five deadpanned.
“Do you know how we can get to it?” Allison asked. “How we can find it and kill it?”
Nancy bit her lip. “I don’t know. My guess is that it’s from the Upside Down, but all the gates have been closed. But if it ends the world… there’s gotta be an open one somewhere.”
“So we just have to find it,” you said.
Nancy nodded.
“Well, kids,” said Five, standing, “looks like we’re going on a road trip.”
~
The five of you trudged through the forest, cold and irritated after hours of looking.
“Maybe the gate hasn’t been opened yet,” said Nancy, frowning.
“So we’ve been wandering through town for five hours for nothing!” Klaus laughed.
“Apparently,” Allison sighed.
“So what do we do now?” you asked.
“I guess we just wait until it opens,” Five answered.
“Shit,” said Nancy suddenly. “I’m sorry, guys, I gotta go.”
“What!? You were supposed to help us!”
“And I will,” Nancy promised, “but the gate hasn’t been opened yet. There’s nothing we can do until it has been. And right now, I have to go to work.”
“I should get back to work too,” Allison said apologetically. “Bye! It was really nice to see you, (Y/N). Klaus and Five… not as much.”
Klaus flipped her off as she jogged after Nancy. “Welp, I’m gonna go get high. (Y/N), come with?”
“Absolutely.” You hopped off the rock you’d been sitting on and ran after him.
Five threw up his hands in exasperation.
“See ya, Five!” you called.
“Why is everyone in my family an idiot!?” he shouted.
“Yeah, love you too.”
Klaus mockingly blew him a kiss.
“So,” you said, “we have five hours till Hellfire and Eddie should be home in one. That gives us about that long to get absolutely stoned.”
“Hell yeah!” Klaus pumped his fist in the air. “This is why you’re my favorite sibling.”
You grinned and slung your arm around him, laughing and talking your way home.
~
“You two are already high, aren’t you?” was Eddie’s immediate question as he walked into the trailer.
You and Klaus responded with an explosion of giggles.
Eddie tsked and plopped down beside you, pulling you into his lap. “Gimme some,” he said, and you laughed and handed him your joint. He inhaled deeply and let out a sound of satisfaction. “Yeah, baby, that’s the stuff.”
“Yeah, well, the world is ending again, so we might as well get higher than kites,” said Klaus airily.
Eddie’s eyebrows lifted. “The world is what now?”
“Ending, going poof, it’s the apocalypse, baby!”
Eddie, a bit more sober than you and your brother, gave you a nervous look. “(Y/N), do you know what he’s talking about?”
You nodded. “You know our older younger brother? Five?”
“The one who can time travel and teleport? You’ve mentioned him, yes.”
“He saw another apocalypse!” you cheered ironically.
Eddie looked at you in fear. “Like, here? In Hawkins??”
“Mhm!” You leaned your head against his shoulder and entwined your fingers with his. “In one week!”
“Holy shit,” he whispered. “Holy fucking shit.”
“Yep!” Klaus singsonged. “Holy shit.”
“We’re gonna fix it though,” you promised. “We actually know what causes it this time.”
“Oh yeah?” said Eddie, a bit hysterically. “And what causes it?”
“A corpse monster thingy,” you told him. “From the Upside Down.”
Eddie let out an odd, strangled noise and sucked a deep puff out of the joint. “Might as well get high,” he mumbled. “Oh!” he said suddenly. “Chrissy Cunningham’s coming over after Hellfire. For a drug deal.”
You and your brother looked at him, eyes wide. “Chrissy Cunningham?” you repeated.
“Mhm.” Eddie let out a bewildered laugh. “Trust me, I thought I was going insane too. Maybe it’s the world that’s going crazy, though.”
“Sounds about right,” you murmured, shutting your eyes. “Night night, Eddie. Wake me up for Hellfire.”
“All right.” He kissed your head. “Sweet dreams, flower girl.”
~
“Absolutely not.”
Mike and Dustin’s replacement for Lucas was a young girl, and Eddie was less than amused.
“You asked for a sub, we gave you a sub,” Dustin retorted.
“This is Hellfire club. Not babysitting club.”
“I’m eleven, you long-haired freak,” the girl snapped.
“My, my,” said Eddie. “The child speaks.” He aggressively stood up from his chair and stalked over to her. “So. What’s your name, child?”
“Erica Sinclair.”
Your eyebrows lifted, and you exchanged a look with Klaus.
Eddie laughed. “So this is Sinclair’s infamous sister.”
Erica rolled her eyes and looked back at Mike and Dustin. “He’s sharp.”
“What’s your class and level? Level one dwarf?”
“My name is Lady Applejack, and I’m a chaotic good half-elf rogue level fourteen. And I will sneak behind any monster you throw my way and stab them in the back with my poison socougrie, and I will smile as I watch them die a slow, agonizing death. So, are we gonna do this, or are we gonna keep chit chatting like this is your mommy’s book club?”
The group was stunned.
“I like her,” Klaus commented.
Eddie’s unamused face broke into a smile, and he held out his hand for Erica to shake. “Welcome to Hellfire.”
Erica looked at him skeptically for a moment, then gripped his hand and shook it strongly.
“Let’s do this, kiddos.” Eddie took his seat at the head of the table and began the campaign.
The game was intense, difficult, and excellently executed. You couldn’t help but be impressed by Eddie’s storytelling abilities, mesmerized by his expressive mannerisms and eloquently written campaign. Eventually, the only people left were Dustin and Erica, and after deciding to attack, Erica was the only player remaining.
Everyone crowded around her, holding their breath as the girl shook the D20. It felt like it took ages, but eventually she threw it onto the table. You leaned over, anxiety bubbling up in your chest as the die rolled to a stop. 20.
The club screamed in triumph and threw their arms around Erica, jumping up and down at the impossible win. Eddie grinned proudly at the eight of you, shooting you a wink before nodding at Erica.
You ran out of the school, jumping and cheering and latching onto Eddie’s arm. “That was such a good campaign,” you praised.
“Thanks.” He grinned. His eyes darted over the crowd of triumphant high schoolers, proof that Hawkins had won the football game. “C’mon, Chrissy should be by the bleachers.”
You nodded. “Klaus, are you coming?” you shouted to your brother.
“No, I think I’m gonna stay out and celebrate with my bros tonight,” he said with a laugh, ruffling Dustin’s hair.
“Okay.” You followed Eddie to the football field, where, sure enough, a pretty blonde cheerleader was waiting anxiously. “Hey,” you said, smiling at her. “I’m (Y/N).”
“I’m Chrissy,” she said, voice quiet and nervous. “Are you Eddie’s girlfriend?”
Your eyes widened and you laughed nervously. “Oh, um, no. No, we’re- we’re just friends.”
Eddie cleared his throat, averting his gaze. “So, Chrissy, are you ready to go? Remember you can back out whenever you want.”
“No,” she said quickly. “No, I wanna do it.”
Eddie pulled his lip between his teeth, hesitating for a moment before nodding. “Okay. Let’s go.”
Chrissy followed the two of you to Eddie’s van, sitting behind him while you rode shotgun. Eddie tapped his fingers along as he blasted Black Sabbath and Chrissy spoke only in short, quiet sentences. Something was wrong.
You arrived at your destination and slid out of the vehicle.
“Well, this is our castle,” Eddie said with a laugh, opening the door for you and the girl. “Sorry for the mess.” He hastily tried to tidy up with little success. “Maid took the week off.”
You laughed, kicking back on the sofa.
“You’re sure you have it?” Chrissy asked anxiously.
“No, no, no, I got it,” Eddie assured her. “Somewhere…”
You rolled your eyes. “Check the top drawer of my dresser. There should be some in there, it’s where I keep all my stuff.”
Eddie shot you a thumbs up and ran upstairs.
“So, do you like him?” you asked, trying to keep your voice cool and unaffected.
“What?” Chrissy looked at you.
“Eddie. Do you like him?”
She shrugged. “I don’t know. Do you like him?”
You smiled sadly. “No.” You loved him.
Chrissy swallowed and looked away. “How long does it take to… to kick in?”
“What’s he selling you?”
“Ketamine.”
“Ahhh.” You leaned back. “Depends. If you snort it it should kick in real fast.”
Chrissy nodded, then her eyes glazed over.
Your eyebrows furrowed. “Chrissy? Are you okay?”
They rolled back in her head.
“Chrissy!?” You ran over to her, terrified. “Chrissy, wake up, are you all right!??”
The girl didn’t respond.
“Eddie!” you screamed. “Eddie, something’s wrong with Chrissy!”
Eddie bounded down the stairs and over to you. “What the…” He stepped over and shook her by the shoulders. “Chrissy, wake up!”
“Ohh, I don’t like this, I don’t like this,” you muttered, beginning to pace.
“Chrissy!” Eddie screamed. Abruptly he shrieked and fell back.
You turned. Chrissy was levitating, floating up to the ceiling. “Oh, holy shit.”
Her limbs snapped, bending at irregular angles, and Eddie screamed at the top of his lungs. You turned away in horror. She fell to the ground, the anxious girl you’d been talking to only moments before.
Dead.

(Futzing around more with GG Season 6. Shit is resolved before Rory's bday, and before Jess comes to town)
Logan breaks up with her on a cold night, a few weeks before her birthday.
He talks about how she’s changed; or that maybe she was always this person and he never noticed. That she has all these “secrets” when really what he means is that he never took an interest in her life in Stars Hollow, and so missed the fact that her mother lives across the street from two famous and influential comedians.
Her having never mentioned it seems to be something Logan can’t get over, and so they’re done. She goes back to her mother’s house instead of Paris’ place, and curls up on the couch, letting her mother feed her junk food and expound upon plans for her twenty-first birthday.
But the breakup casts a gloomy shadow over it, and she excuses herself, saying she’s tired.
She doesn’t sleep.
*****
“Logan dumped her,” Lorelai explains at the diner the next morning.
“What the hell?” Luke asks, obviously offended by this turn of events. “What is wrong with that kid?”
“He’s…he’s rich,” Lorelai shrugs helplessly. “He’s rich and he’s used to getting his way, and he’s not used to being with someone who has a life of her own that maybe doesn’t include him in every single corner.”
Luke just looks confused.
“She’s talking about us,” Lenny says from his and Midge’s table. “Logan was angry that he didn’t know we were close with Rory, because we’re…us.”
Luke rolls his eyes deeply. “I should go smack that kid in his mouth.”
“Do not do that,” Lorelai orders. “Please don’t do that. She’s bummed. She’s…she’s having a hard time right now, the last thing she needs is for the guy she’s probably still in love with to get bloodied by her almost stepfather..”
“You’ll let me know if there’s anything I can do?” Luke requests.
“I will,” Lorelai grins sadly, reaching up to peck his lips. “Her birthday is coming up, and I’m going to plan our Atlantic city trip, and hopefully that will cheer her up.”
Midge frowns. “Atlantic City?”
“Yeah,” Lorelai grins back at her. “We’re gonna drink and gamble and-”
“Lorelai, sweetie. Atlantic City,” Midge says, her voice pained.
“Midge,” Lorelai counters.
“What about Vegas?”
“Midge-”
“I will pay for Vegas,” Midge promises. “Hotel, airfare, meals, the whole nine. Shy has a residency at the Four Seasons, you’ll love it.”
Lorelai huffs out a soft breath. “I really appreciate it, Midge, but Atlantic City was going to be our thing.”
“Vegas can still be your thing,” Midge promises. “Vegas is way less depressing.”
Lenny concedes that point with a nod. “Also legal sex work.”
“Thinking of going pro?” Midge asks him jokingly.
“I do look great in heels,” he counters with a grin.
“You two don’t want to come with, right?” Lorelai asks.
“God, no, I hate Vegas,” Lenny snaps. “Also I think I’m still banned from that one time.”
Luke wrinkles his nose. “You got banned from all of Vegas?”
“I accidentally sprayed Pearl Bailey with a fire extinguisher,” Lenny explains sheepishly. “Honestly, I didn’t mean to. It was a total fluke. But uh…it got me deep sixed for good.”
Lorelai tries not to laugh as she turns to Midge. “And you?”
“Will stay home and feed Luke and Paul Anka while you’re away,” Midge promises. “And tell Shy you’re coming so he can drag Rory up on stage and embarrass her.”
Lorelai sighs and closes her eyes. “Am I going to regret saying yes?”
“Not unless you intend to take your mother with you,” Midge smirks.
Lorelai gives a whole body shudder. “Ugh, being with my mother in Vegas.”
“Your mother at a strip club,” Lenny supplies evilly.
“Just for that I’m not bringing you some guy’s g-string as a souvenir,” Lorelai threatens.
“Shit, and I was so looking forward to that!”
****
“So, funny thing happened today.”
Rory blinks at her mother. “Funny haha or funny peculiar?”
“Funny…unexpected,” Lorelai says. “I told Midge and Lenny about our Atlantic City trip, and they…offered to send us to Vegas instead.”
“Wow,” Rory says. “That’s really generous of them.”
“I mean, I can totally tell them that the birthday girl still wants to go to Atlantic City,” Lorelai says quickly. “We don’t have to take them up on it.”
“It just-” Rory purses her lips. “Is this what Logan was talking about? Having and using connections?”
“You’re not using anyone, Sweets,” Lorelai tells her soothingly. “Midge and Lenny love you. Love us. We may not technically be related, but we’re family to them, and they want to do something nice for you on your birthday.”
“Are they coming with?” Rory asks.
“Turns out Lenny is still banned from Las Vegas,” Lorelai snorts. “They just want us to have a nice time. Stay somewhere fancy. Eat good food, see Shy Baldwin live. And we can still do all the things we planned. Just…swankier.”
“I just keep thinking about Logan,” Rory confesses. “I’m…I’m reevaluating things.”
“Logan was wrong to say those things to you,” Lorelai tells her. “Midge and Lenny have known you since you were two years old. They changed your diapers. Lenny taught you how to read a newspaper. Midge made you chicken and rice soup when you had the flu for the first time. Lenny and Morey once wore tiaras to your birthday party because you required everyone to wear one because everyone was a princess. You watched BIll Clinton get elected president on their couch while eating sourdough pretzels. Whoever they are in their professional lives, they are, first and foremost, to us, the old couple who lives across the street and has always, always been there for us. And Logan’s opinion about that relationship holds absolutely no water because he didn’t start caring about your life here in Stars Hollow until he found out who they were.”
Rory thinks that over, staying quiet.
“Midge and Lenny adore you,” Lorelai shrugs. “You and Jess and Lane. They love you guys. Don’t let some jerk who doesn’t understand what it is to be a part of a real community ruin that for you, Rory.”
Rory purses her lips and stays silent for another moment. “So…Vegas?”
Lorelai grins slowly. “Vegas.”
*****
“I’m going to throw Rory a birthday party,” her mother tells her the next evening over the phone as Lorelai works at the Dragonfly.
“Gonna be kind of hard without the birthday girl in attendance, but you do you,” Lorelai tells her.
“What are you talking about?”
“We’re leaving town for Rory’s birthday,” Lorelai explains with a grin. “We’re going to Vegas.”
“You most certainly are not,” Emily snaps. “Vegas is vile, and tacky!”
“And filled with gambling and lounge singers and booze and buffets and strippers,” Lorelai adds on. “And we’re gonna paint the town an undecided as-of-yet color.”
“You most certainly are not.”
“Flight and hotel are booked, Shy Baldwin tickets have been procured, I think we are,” Lorelai tells her. “We can do a belated birthday dinner when we get back.”
“But Lorelai-”
“Bye, Mom!”
*****
Lenny’s phone rings in the middle of the night, and he turns from his computer to pick up. “Hello?”
“Lenny!!!!!”
He chuckles and sits back. “Rory. How’s Vegas?”
“Vegas is nice. It’s all so nice.”
“And someone’s had a few drinks,” Lenny grins.
“I have! I have had…three…and a half…martinis!” Rory tells him. “Just like Midge drinks them, in honor of her. Gin, dirty with two olives.”
“Good girl,” Lenny says proudly. “I’m glad you’re having a good time.”
“I have gotten the numbers of four guys,” Rory tells him. “Totally unsolicited.”
“Well, what happens in Vegas…”
“Stays in Vegas unless it’s you and then you’re banned from Vegas.”
Lenny lets out a shout laugh, slapping his own knee. “Yes, yes, that’s very true. How does twenty-one feel?”
“Good. It feels…it feels good. You know? I’m - I’m back at school and Mom and I are talking again and…and she and Luke are gonna for-real get married, and- and and who cares about Logan, right? Of all the things to be mad about! Of all the things to break up with someone over! Not disclosing that the elderly couple who live across the street work in the entertainment industry? What is that? Who does he think he is? Huh?”
“A spoiled brat who doesn’t understand love,” Lenny tells her gently. “And that’s okay. Not everyone gets it, Kiddo.”
“He was supposed to get it.”
“I know,” Lenny commiserates.
“I’m gonna end up alone,” Rory pouts.
He chuckles gently. “You are so, so young. You have so many more chances to fall in love. You know, I didn’t meet Midge until I was in my thirties. I was pushing forty when we got married. And before she came along, after my divorce, I felt the way you feel. I had my shot, and there were no more to be had, and then…there she was. If a bitter old fool like me can find love after making a mess of his life, then you’re golden, Ponyboy.”
“It’s ‘stay golden,’” Rory corrects him.
“See? With a brain like yours, who can resist?” Lenny asks teasingly before growing serious again. “It’s okay to feel lonely sometimes. Everyone does. And I know as far as guys are concerned, you’ve been through the school of hard knocks, but the right person is out there. Give it time. You have so much.”
“Lenny, you’re the best.”
He smiles to himself. “You go have fun. Go flirt with some unsuspecting fratboy or something.”
“Can you hug Midge for me?” Rory asks.
“I will do that,” he promises. “G’night, Kiddo.”
“Night, Lenny.”
He hangs up and shakes his head, getting back to work.

They get home Sunday night, exhausted but happy, and Luke and Midge cook dinner for them at the Schneiders’ place. Rory doesn’t have any Monday classes this week, so she’s determined to crash early and sleep off some of her jetlag.
“And then a stripper threw his thong at Rory,” Lorelai says, regaling the small group with stories of their Vegas adventure.
“That is so unhygienic,” Luke complains.
“Your step-daughter-to-be got to see some stranger dick, you’re not supposed to like it,” Midge jokes, making everyone else laugh.
Lenny nudges Rory gently at the dinner table. “Doin’ okay?”
Rory nods and grins at him. “Yeah. I really appreciated what you said over the phone. It really helped put things in perspective, you know?”
“Good. Breakups are hard, but it’ll be okay,” he tells her.
“Have you heard from Logan at all?” Sookie asks, looking concerned.
“No,” Rory admits. “I think - I think we really are done this time, you know? And it’s really for the best. I think we’re just- we think about life really differently.”
“Sometimes, even though you love someone, you’re just not right for each other,” Midge says sympathetically. “But you’re smart, talented, and gorgeous. There is somebody right around the corner, you’ll see.”
At that moment the door opens and closes and Jess’s voice rings out.
“I’m not here!” he calls. “I just need a place to crash while I try to convince Andrew to carry my book in the bookstore in the worst town in the country!”
Rory blinks owlishly, as Midge rolls her eyes and gets up to make him a plate.
