couple years ago i went back and deleted a bunch of posts from when i first made this blog, stuff from over 11 years ago, because i didn't like that my old tags were still the ones that showed up first in my search bar (as if ANYONE is looking at that???) and i'm so mad now!! i got a laptop for the first time in forever and yesterday i updated my desktop theme since i hadn't in FOREVER ago, and i got so nostalgic.

i checked and now the 1st post on my blog is from july 2011 lmao and it's a green day post. but i remember clear as day that the first thing i reblogged here, about 23 urls ago, was one of those 'if you don't reblog this you're a terrible person' posts with a blind cat on it 🤣 i mass deleted a lot of stuff, over a year's worth of posts, and it sucks because now i can't go back and make fun of my 13 y/o self. i at least was too lazy to continue wiping my blog and so i've been reminiscing over my time here back in 2014 when i lived and breathed gintama, that was such a fun time in my life.

anyways this blog is so near and dear to my heart, it's like the friend i've had the longest, and i cannot BELIEVE i've used the same blog ever since i joined. that's insane what the hell was i thinking. so there's that and here's to keeping it up until it inevitably breaks down and i have nowhere else to go.

𝖯𝖠𝖨𝖱𝖨𝖭𝖦. gintoki sakata x genderneutral!reader

𝖶𝖠𝖱𝖭𝖨𝖭𝖦𝖲. angst with a happy ending, fluff at the end, fighting, cursing

𝖲𝖸𝖭𝖮𝖯𝖲𝖨𝖲. 𝗌ometimes, gintoki is insufferable and you can't help but fight with him to prove a point. this time however, you can't even remember the reason for your heated discussion and the only thing that keeps you from apologizing is your own stubbornness.

𝖠𝖴𝖳𝖧𝖮𝖱'𝖲 𝖭𝖮𝖳𝖤. i've been watching gintama for a while and it turned into my comfort anime, i just love it and gin just owns my heart now. so here's a little something i have written over the past few days during my study breaks. have a wonderful day and enjoy this short fic! 💕

𝖫𝖤𝖭𝖦𝖳𝖧. 1.205 words

MASTERLIST

“You are a piece of shit!” Your words sting, he has to admit that, they really do, but Gintoki has never been one to back down from a challenge and that doesn’t except you and your venomous tongue, lethal and vile to push all the right buttons for a reaction, no matter how pissed he might act as a result. Even better, you want him to fight back. “I fucking despise you, Gintoki!”

However, Gin refuses to give in so easily. So, he only rolls his eyes with a bored expression etched into his face as if he doesn’t care about the biting insults you throw at him with a dangerous rasp in your voice.

He has done it a million times before, kept this unheeding act up for years now, but something about your ferocious attitude seems to break his usually so composed demeanor and gnaws at his heart. Harsh words can hurt even the toughest samurai.

“Yeah? Well, I hate you too,” he sneers, all cold and unimpressed before he moves to sit on the couch instead, seemingly far more interested in the pack of strawberry milk sitting next to an open Jump magazine, the one you got him this morning as a pleasant surprise.

The kind smile you offered him while you handed him breakfast and your gift feels like a distant memory now, distorted and faded and currently replaced by deadly anger flashing through your eyes, glaring at the back of his head.

"Then maybe... Maybe we should part ways if the feeling is mutual." You regret the words as soon as they tumble from your lips, scowl disappearing within seconds when you realize the gravity behind each syllable and the hidden threat of fulfilling your statement that begins to sink heavy in your stomach. You didn't mean it, of course not, nothing could ever make you leave Gin's side — neither in this life nor another.

"Sounds like a good idea." He doesn't bother to look at you, keeps his voice surprisingly steady, and manages to hide his hands before you notice how his fingers tremble at your last offer. His heart pounds hard and fast against his ribcage, painfully afraid that you meant it this time. What if you do?

"Fine!" Tears blur your vision and you hastily blink them away, too prideful to show how hurt you are by his disinterest, too distracted with your own thoughts to notice the sheer panic coursing through every cell of his being like a wave crashing against cliffs, violent and untamable and dissipating before you can catch a glimpse of his weakness.

what if what if what if—

Yet, neither of you leaves. You're not quite sure why, perhaps it's the fierce stubbornness you both share that forces you to take a few steps around the table and drop into the cushions of the couch right next to him with an exasperated huff and just enough distance to emphasize how pissed you really are, though he doesn’t pay much attention to you anyway. Instead, he calmly slurps his strawberry milk and indulges in the open pages of his stupid magazine.

Ignorant asshole.

For a while, you sit in deadly silence. It's almost embarrassing how your eyes seem to be drawn to him, to his silver curls and his dark gaze set on the Shonen Jump in his calloused hands, desperately trying to figure out what exactly is going on inside his head in this exact minute.

Unreadable — that's what he's always been in some way, always hiding, always withdrawn, always putting on this fucking act of carelessness, but now you aren't even sure if it was all an act or if he truly doesn't care about you.

A sharp exhale leaves your lips as you study his face with narrowed eyes, perhaps even admiring him from afar. You wouldn't admit that though. Slowly, you let your eyes wander to his magazine, fingertips nervously fiddling with the corner of the page he is currently reading.

Tremors run through his scarred hands, right when you decide to turn away. It makes you hesitate, just long enough to catch the spark of bitter regret and sorrow glinting in his eyes before he lifts his gaze to look at you and the sentiment disappears again behind a veil of boredom you want to punch right through.

Time seems to stop. Just for a minute as Gin stares at you, tries to say something, form a single thought, but that is seemingly impossible at the sight of hurt etched into your beautiful features, cheeks flushed with anger and your lips pulled into a cute little frown that makes him want to squish your face between the palms of his hands and kiss it all away.

He's an idiot. You know he is and maybe that's one of the reasons you love him so much, even when you're sitting right next to him and pretend to be upset. Maybe, you're an idiot too — you can't even remember the reason for your stupid fight and the only thing that holds you back from apologizing and falling into his arms is your own pride and your stubbornness.

“Come on, let's get you some sweets.” Your voice is surprisingly warm, warm and so gentle without any trace of anger drenching your words like before. His gaze lands on your hand, open and patiently waiting for him to take your offer and though he’s still surprised, still a little suspicious and weary that you might slam him to the ground and break his nose with a strong punch, the look in your eyes tells him you mean it.

A gentle smile crosses his lips as he intertwines his fingers with yours, his thumb caressing the back of your hand in the process.

“You won’t kill me, right?” He nudges your foot playfully and raises an eyebrow, apparently satisfied with the shake of your head as a reply to his question. “So you're not mad anymore. Took you long enough.” With a tug on your arm, he pulls you into his lap, swiftly grabbing your hips and securing you on his thighs before you fall to the floor and hurt yourself.

“Careful there, or I might change my mind,” you giggle and nuzzle your face into the crook of his neck, breathing in his scent to calm your fragile little heart beating heavily behind your ribs. His hands glide over your waist and wander to your thighs, giving them a gentle squeeze before drawing calming circles over the fabric of your clothes. "You know, I didn't mean a single word I said."

"I know, sweetheart." Gintoki presses a chaste kiss to your temple and chuckles lowly. "I'm sorry for upsetting you." The apology is muttered into your hair, almost inaudible and a part of him hopes that you still catch it, because he doesn't show remorse often. You do.

"I'm sorry too, Gin." Closing your eyes, you cuddle further into his chest and his arms engulf you as he tightens his hold in you, feels you melt against his body with a stuttering heart and heat punching through his skin.

Everything is okay again.

What are your favorite arcs in gintama? Comedy, serious, half-serious – doesn't matter. Top 5 for example.

Shinigami Arc

It’s one of the arcs which really show the kind of person Gintoki is leading up to the present. I also like the mixture of comedy, angst, gags, flashbacks, edo period dynamics, historical accuracy - it’s a microcosm of what gintama is really good at. I’m still the most impressed at this short arc.

Beam Saber Sword Style Arc

Yorozuya family/friendship dynamics shine in this one. It’s also a good mixture of comedy and drama. Most of all it put in the forefront the Shimura siblings and how their dynamics work, something which sorachi didn’t reveal for the longest time. It’s a really good arc which capture gintama’s found family message. It also masterfully showcases Gintama’s overall storytelling style of mixing parody/gags with heavy themes. When I fist watched the anime I always wondered why Gintama had a OST which was a parody of the star wars theme. Beam Saber Sword Style gave that payoff lmaooo.

Silver Soul Arc

While it felt loose, lazy and rushed in many aspects, hands down SSA is one of the best portrayal of war that I’ve seen (tbf i dont watch a lof of war themed anime). Even now I still keep geeking out over the Siege of Kabukichou (esp Otose and co.) and the diplomatic endeavors Katsura, Sakamoto and Madao were doing. SSA tickled this brain of mine which had obssessing over war and weapon history for the past two years.

Episode where the rice bowl shop owner died

Still one of my favorite comedy episodes man. The whole thing was just so unexpected and ridiculously funny. Hijikata tsukkomi and Gintoki boke duo is so good. Gintoki invoking the love of the ramen shop owner’s wife to save all of them was just so [chef’s kiss].

Mahjong Episode

Anime only but I remember laughing my a/ss of in that one. I am fond of it. I love the gags and the parody of the mahjong anime lmao.

Ghost Ryokan

It’s so ridiculous and also was a bit scary ngl. I love how all of Yorozuya worked together even as souls. The ending was so good too. The cherry on top of the cake is Tomokazu Sugita revealing that his mom chastised him for singing so badly LOL.

Kaientai Arc

Sakamoto is such a good and ridiculous dude. I like characters who use diplomacy and mind games to get what hey want ngl. Kaientai Arc is a jewel in this portrayal.

Prison Break Arc

This arc was weird coz it’s mostly only Gintoki working as Yorozuya (i know ShinKagu were helping him on the outside). It really gives you an idea on his methodology as a Yorozuya. It was cool watching him work mostly alone. Without him having to look after Shinpachi and Kagura he became more unhinged. It was fascinating.

4 Devas Arc

A bit heavier in seriousness but it was great to see Gintoki learn his lesson for once. Awesome found family theme too. I loved that Kabukichou came together and how all the actors of the comedy episodes showed up and helped. Its the episode which gives a grand scale of how important someone or a business owner can be to a community and how establishing connections to the people around you enriches one’s living experience and disposition. It’s so subtle but it’s so real. And brooo when Kabukichou people led the Siege of Kabukichou despite the danger, i think my heart grew full hhhhhh.

Without Miura, so many things would have been blown away by the winds of fate. But because of him, his legacy lives on not just in Berserk, but in so many other franchises, stories, and people.

Souls series, bloodborne, sekiro, Final Fantasy, Bleach, Sword Art, Gintama, etc. dark fantasy in general, along with mature content and life lesson to take into your life. He wrote his story as he saw his life in a way. And thats what makes this an artistic and literary masterpiece. Unfinished as it may be, the greatness isn’t in finding out the ending (which would be goddamn great) but it is carrying the weight of yourself and your life, finding people who will love you, and struggle through all the darkness you might find along the way with you.

While Miura’s struggle seems to have ended, He gave us a gift to help us understand our struggle. *His* struggle. He struggled everyday to draw Berserk, to train his successors, to keep his dream alive that he’s had since 31 years ago. He wrote almost everyday, he has to have so many drafts and structures to chapters far jn advance maybe even to the ending. But thats all it is. Drafts and sketches. Maybe at some point, 10 years from now maybe. Berserk can see the ending it deserves...

He was the first struggler. He put his life into his work. Becoming the most beautifully drawn, well written piece of introspective literature (with a helping of existential dread) I have ever had the blessing of being able to read. I heard he died drawing... he is irreplaceable

He did something only he could do. Which is most likely why this series will remain unfinished, after the unreleased chapters come out whenever they do... Let’s rejoice ware able to enjoy and read this man’s masterpiece that he, literally, put his life into.

My heart breaks, but if I learned anything from Berserk it’s that as much as shit can weigh you down, you can take it. And if you can’t there’s others who can help you carry it, even if it’s just a little bit.

Thank you, Kentaro Miura, for giving us Berserk and showing us a glimpse of your own life and perspective as well.

My Review of Trigun

How did I get into this anime? Let’s just say this was one of those animes that used to air on Saturday nights back in the day that I would every now and then come across while waiting for either Full Metal Alchemist, InuYasha, or Cowboy Bebop to air. But I never did watch a full episode or know a damn thing about this anime. So I’m just jumping into this anime blindfolded. All I know is that this was Johnny Yong Bosch’s first anime role.

Who is Vash the Stampede?

A frequent question that comes up throughout the series! Rumor has it that he wears a long, red trench coat and sports a Mohawk hairstyle. Some say he’s a notorious lecher. Many recount him shooting up their villages to a pile of rubble just for the heck of it. He has quite the reputation as he has a $$60,000,000,000 bounty on his head and is often known as the “Humanoid Typhoon”.

In reality, Vash the Stampede is…a bit of a dingus. He just happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and things kinda get out of hand. But that doesn’t stop two insurance agents (Milly Thompson and Meryl Stryfe) from following him around to confirm Vash’s identity and keep his actions to a minimum. At first, it’s hard to tell if he’s a stupid-genius or just flighty and gets lucky one too many times. But when shit goes down, don’t be surprised when you see this doofus get serious.

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: Okay, what sad company did this use to belong to, Geneon, Bandai, or ADV Films? Oh, Geneon! That means good voice actors from L.A. put in really shitty roles. On the contrary, this was a fairly decent English dub. And on a severely positive note, this was indeed Johnny Yong Bosch’s very first anime role (and a main role at that). This was like fresh off his time as a Power Ranger! And I gotta give props for giving this guy a chance at voice acting. This role was the launching point to what has been a very successful career for Bosch. As for the sub, let’s just say I’m happy any time I get to hear Hiromi Tsuru in something besides Dragon Ball. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

FAVORITE CHARACTER: Milly! I don’t need a reason, it’s Milly!

SHIPPING: I didn’t really start thinking about shipping until more than halfway into this series. I thought there might be something between Vash and Meryl, but then again maybe not! Then I saw the backstory of Vash’s “younger days” and falling for the one woman who showed him compassion.

Yes, this is the same woman we consistently see in Vash’s flashbacks, Rem. Ooh boy, it’s one of those stories! So yeah, never mind my thinking with Vash x Meryl ever happening. I feel like Vash will mourn Rem’s death for a long time that I don’t think the whole thing with Meryl will ever work.

And as for Wolfwood x Milly…

FUUUUUUUCK! WHY DID YOU RUIN THIS CUTE COUPLE?!

MILLY WAS HEART-BROKEN!

…At least she got to have one night of passion with Wolfy-boy before the unthinkable happened.

THAT DARN CAT: If you watched this series, you might have noticed a little black cat spotted in nearly every episode. It’s there in the opening theme. It’s there in random places throughout the series. It’s there in the ending theme. What’s up with this cat? Well, there are a lot of theories surrounding this particular cat (or Kuroneko). Some say it’s really Rem inside that cat since you see it in literally every episode around Vash. Others say it’s because the creator of Trigun wanted to just mess with your minds with the kitty walking around in random places and towns. Seriously, it will always appear in every new town Vash and the gang comes across! As an avid cat enthusiast, I’m fine with whatever the result. Just as long as no harm comes to the little Kuroneko.

HALFWAY POINT: Halfway into the series we notice something more when it comes to Mr. Vash the Stampede. First of all, those horrifying scars all over his body! Second, that mysterious girl he often thinks about. I mean, we see flashes of her in the opening sequence. And third, the reason why he never kills. Vash has the ability of causing so much damage when pushed to a breaking point. One of the many reasons why he’s known as the “humanoid typhoon”! And that was perfectly shown when Vash chases the residents out of a town (so there would be no casualties), totally demolished the town during a fight, and made an indent on the moon!

But the story takes a sharp-left turn into WTF territory when we learn about WHAT exactly Vash is. Vash is a plant. Vash also has a brother named Knives. And while Vash has a mentality that all beings have a right to live, Knives has a “kill them all and let God sort them out” point of view. Now the existence of Vash and Knives came with a lot of controversy, especially in the ship that they were on. But that girl who Vash cares for, Rem cared for them regardless of what they were. Rem had high hopes for a peaceful world with coexistence. Too bad Knives had other motives and killed her.

ENDING TO TV SERIES: Vash has tried so hard to keep Milly, Meryl, and Wolfwood out of harm’s way. He knows there are some pretty bad people after him, including his polar-opposite brother, Knives. Vash hates death and wants to save as many people as humanly possible. He doesn’t want to see any more needless death. Probably from his flashbacks and losing Rem! Unfortunately, this doesn’t go so well.

I can see how iconic this death was now after witnessing it. Wolfwood, the priest who would hook up with Vash every now and then when they’re up against some ruffians, now finds himself in a crucial decision. He gets orders that he must eliminate Vash. And Wolfwood ends up dying instead in a very dramatic death scene. God-damn! And just that scene where Milly is sobbing freakin’ eats you up inside.

At least she had one night of passion before the unfortunate happened!

Vash hates the thought of having to kill anyone. But he might not have a choice if Knives is coming after him and even hires a powerful foe from a previous episode and the guy that killed Wolfwood to take you out. Once Vash met up with Knives, he winds up having some pretty sick flashbacks of Knives. But our homeboy was able to take out Knives, the desert area gets water, and…

I’m gonna have to read the fucking manga for more, right?

Tap dancing fuck!

BADLANDS RUMBLE: 12 years after the series ended, Japan decides to release a side-story in the form of a movie, bringing back our favorite characters like Vash, Wolfwood, Milly, and Meryl. And yes, reuniting the cast…in Japan.

By 2010, Geneon was as good as dead and FUNimation licensed Trigun. In short, they managed to get Johnny Young Bosch to reprise his role as Vash the Stampede. But everyone else was replaced. And surprisingly, the people they got to do Wolfwood and Milly were pretty freakin’ close to their original voices. Meryl’s voice, come on I know Luci Christian any-damn-where! Vash helps a young lady take out a big-bad guy (who turns out to be his father). And it has the feel of the original series where it’s set in a western town with lots of booze and shoot-em-ups! It’s an interesting side-story to the Trigun trilogy.

Trigun was a pretty good anime. I mean, not one of my favorites, but I can definitely see a lot of people sticking by this classic. Maybe you can chalk up my blah attitude to the fact that I’m not fond of westerns and I kinda took it out on Trigun. Or the fact that there was so much more that the anime could have covered before the end and the ending kinda felt off to me! Like I thought I was expecting more. But I suppose that’s what mangas are for. To be honest, the stories that really grabbed my attention were the back-stories with Vash and Knives and Wolfwood’s final episode.

*sniffles* At least Milly got one night of passion before he died!

The First Move

Chapter 1

She’s been appearing in his dreams far more frequently than he’d imagine she would. He doesn’t know how this came to be, and doesn’t know why it’s her, out of all the crazy women that he knows. And the craziest part of it all? He doesn’t seem to mind it one bit.

The dreams keep changing form and meaning every night, with the one common denominator being her. One dream would indulge his lust, showing how he’d have her all to himself, how he’d throw himself to her lips, and capture her beauty all for his own. Another dream would show an endless friendly spar between the two, exchanging smiles and blows. Yet among the multitude of dreams he’s had, the one he’d treasure the most was where he has a family of his own, kids that he fathered with her. A time lapse where he watches the kids grow up as his dream self and her hold each other’s hand and proudly watch them succeed. A dream where he watches himself grow old and happy with her. He remembers that one vividly, unlike the others, and he knows he won’t let that go.

Gintoki never cared much for flings or dates, let alone a long term relationship. A longstanding crush on Ketsuno Ana still remains, but he knows how far that’ll go. Celebrity crushes rarely come true, if at all. The stalker ninja would still keep popping up here and there, her appearances were more of an irritation that he’d not hesitate to squash away instantly. The glasses’ sister was more of a younger sibling he’d look out for, although with her brute strength matching that of a gorilla, he was pretty sure she’d rather pummel him to death. In short, he never considered any sort of relationship with any of them. But in comes Tsukuyo, messing it all up.

Gintoki racks his brains, trying formulate an answer to this new confounding issue. What triggered this? Any residual effects from the love incense? Granted, he inhaled a full blast of the damned scent, but the side effects couldn’t possibly have lasted this long... or could it? He doesn’t know. Or he does, but he simply doesn’t want to acknowledge it. It’s just an infatuation, couldn’t possibly be more than that, right? Right?

“Whatever”, he murmurs, slowly getting up from the futon and heading to the washroom. He thinks of going for a walk to clear his head once he’s done eating whatever Shinpachi made for breakfast. Perhaps a trip to Yoshiwara later in the afternoon to hit the pachinko would be nice...

“I’ve been seeing you a lot around here lately,” she says, taking a drag on her pipe. Her run-ins with the fish-eyed samurai had increased significantly since the end of the battle, and this one was no different. Of course, he’d be outside the pachinko place.

“Nothing much happening with Odd Jobs,” he replies, looking bored. “At least not for me. Shinpachi and Kagura have been handling most of the requests that we’ve been getting. I help out here and there whenever needed, but they insist on doing the work on their own. Something about being a grown up and handling more on their plate, I guess.”

“So you’re mooching off of them now.”

“It’s not mooching when I own the business, Tsukki. Plus, with our combined earnings, I’ve been able to pay the rent on time. Keeps the old hag off of my back.”

“You mean theirs.”

“Fuck off.”

“So what you’re saying is that the kids are not as lazy and incompetent as you? I wonder how that turned out to be.”

He shrugs. “Beats me.”

She takes another puff of the tobacco, slowly exhaling the smoke. “The kids have grown up so fast. You’ve really raised them well, Gintoki.” She smiles.

He notices her smile, and his heart tugs. He looks to the sky, and smiles as well. “I didn’t really do much at all, Tsukki. They did it all by themselves.”

“You underestimate your worth,” she states immediately, looking at him intently. “I don’t know how you’ve not realized by now, but you are important to us all, Gintoki. The kids have been looking up to you ever since you took them under your wing. Anyone with an eye could see how they’d look at you.”

Gintoki looks back at her, and notices her gaze. He knows she means what she said, and yet, after all this time, he can only shrug at the notion of his importance. To him, he had simply wanted to help out. But still, hearing it from her felt different.

Why did it feel different...

How would you look at me...

“Guess you’re still keeping busy with the Hyakka,” he muses.

“Yes. Work, as usual,” she replied. “Recruitment has never been better, and I’ve been spending more time training than patrols these days.”

“You’re a war hero, Tsukki. Of course they’d flock to you.”

“Says the one who did the heavy lifting at the battle.”

“I’ll take that as a compliment,” he chuckles, winking at her. She immediately blushes and look the other way, making him grin. Even after all these years she was still too easy to tease.

They both notice the dark settling in. The streetlights and shop signs light up, and the narrow streets get busier slowly but surely.

“I should get going,” Tsukuyo spoke, breaking the brief silence.

“Where to?”

“Home. Help Hinowa with closing the shop, then I’ll retire for the night. Didn’t have much work today anyway.”

“Let me help out,” he blurts out.

She shakes her head. “You’re better off heading home and resting.”

“Don’t you be worrying about that. I’ve been useless the entire day. At least let me help out.”

“With that burnt forest on top of your scalp, you’d be useless regardless,” she shrugs, as she starts walking towards the shop.

“Can you not bring my hair into this...” he groans, itching his nose as they walk through the crowd. “I swear, this hair’s the reason why I’ve not been getting anywhere in the dating life.”

Tsukuyo looks back at him, and grins. “If that’s what you think, sure.”

“Maybe I should straighten it out. That’d make the ladies drool.”

“Still won’t change the fact that you’re a dumbass.”

“Keep hating, Tsukki.”

He smiles, thinking he could get used to this.

Despite those fish eyes and bored stares feigning indifference and laziness, Gintoki is a good listener and a hard worker, given the right motivation. She knows this about him, and a whole lot more than she’d care to admit. His unique way of displaying kindness and help was not lost on those who crossed paths with him. Case in point: he followed all the directions in packing up the right stuff for the shop, whilst talking with Seita about his school work and life. After they wrap up, Hinowa gets him have dinner with them, to which he gladly obliges. At dinner, he keeps on conversing with Seita, using every chance to tease the kid. Seita would always be elated whenever Gintoki would show up, and tonight’s surprise appearance was no difference. Tsukuyo feels at peace watching it all, and yet her mind wanders.

In recent weeks, her feelings for the silver-permed samurai had been reaching feverish peaks. Her thoughts seem to stray towards him ever since he reappeared, infecting her mind with all the new possibilities of a relationship with the permhead that she knows she’ll never let herself proceed with. She could only dream of how those possible choices would play out, replaying the consequences of each choice like it was a part of a different ending in a non-linear game. Entertaining herself with such delusions weren’t doing her any wonders, and talking to Hinowa about them only made Hinowa double down on trying to get her to face her feelings head on. Yet, she keeps telling Hinowa that the silver haired samurai would never reciprocate, something she’d been telling herself in the mirror for months. Trying to convince herself that it wasn’t worth the embarrassment, that it was too much of a risk.

What if he says “no”?

And yet, she couldn’t help it. She watches his eyes, how they show his happiness at watching Seita’s growth, despite the incessant teasing. The selflessness in offering help, the gratitude for a good day’s meal. He never did change since the first day she saw him, and she was glad for that. Their own conversations have evolved from full scale arguments, which involved a lot of kunais and blood, to light hearted banters. She’d still blush at one of his cheeky lines, but she understood that it was all in jest. She understood it all better now. Gintoki would never stop his teasing, just as much as he cares for everyone, to the point where he’d trade his life for such a cause. That’s what you’d expect out of a samurai anyway, even one as radical as Gintoki. He’d found a family to watch over, to love, to protect. Tsukuyo’s heart flutters as she pores over it all, not knowing just what to do anymore.

“...you alright there?”

She startles, noticing his hand waving in front of her face.

“I’m ok. Was just busy in thought.”

“Good to know,” he exclaims. “Thought you were falling for me.”

“Do tell me how you come to that conclusion,” she snorted, suddenly finding the food on the table very interesting.

“You were staring daggers at me,” no sooner had he finished the sentence than he found himself lying flat on his back, with a kunai planted at the middle of his forehead.

“There’s the dagger you were waiting for.” Dumbass.

He sits close to the porch, tying up the shoelaces, while she stands behind him, waiting. He finishes, and gets up slowly. “‘Twas a good way to end the day.”

“Yes, it was.” She admits sheepishly, her face showing the slightest hint of red.

“Would’ve been even better if I didn’t have a piece of metal stuck on my forehead.”

“Keep talking like that, and there’s gonna be more of those in places you’re gonna regret,” she growls. He never does fail to get under her skin.

“Oooh, kinky,” he remarks slyly, grinning. “What a S.”

“Don’t you have to be home?” she sighs, exasperated.

“Man, you want me gone that bad?” he smirks. “Whatever, Tsukki. You free anytime soon? Would be nice to hang out like today.”

She shrugs. “Maybe. My schedule is very erratic, so can’t predict when I’ll be free next time around. You’re free to drop by, though, seeing as you’ve got nothing much.”

He reaches for the door and slides it open. Halfway through going out, he turns back and looks at her, a gentle smile on his face.

“Maybe I will.”

She blushes, turning the other way and walking back to her room as fast as possible.

The next couple of weeks pass by, and she finds herself hanging out more with him with each of those weeks passing by. Somedays she finds him waiting outside the pachinko shop, and they talk for a while in one of the tea shops on the street sides, him munching on endless amounts of dango that he makes her pay for, while she smokes with her kiseru. Other times, he comes by late at Hinowa’s shop, having memorized the closing time of the shop, and helps out with the clean up, after which Hinowa gladly treats him to free dinner. He even joins her at work, helping her out with street patrols and rounding out rowdy drunk customers and two bit criminals. Slowly, but surely, she has gotten used to his presence, his wisecracks and his dead fish stares serving to brighten up her usual rigorous monotonous schedule. She’s grateful for it, even if she shows it by throwing kunais at him after every one of his jokes.

“You seriously gotta look for more opportunities to have fun, you know” he yawns, stretching out, as he reaches for one of the dango sticks on the plate.

“Any more fun than this, and the possibility of becoming a NEET like you increases dangerously,” she smirks, taking another puff.

“Would it really be that bad?”

“So you’re not even denying it anymore.”

He shrugs. “Tsukki, it’s not even worth trying to change your mind. I’m still doing my work and getting pay, I just end up with a lot more free time, unlike you. And you really gotta take a break. When’s the last time you did something that was genuinely fun?”

“I was teaching Seita history two days ago. It was alright.”

Gintoki shudders. “Wonder how that was fun for both you and Seita.”

She snaps. “Look, it was just one time, alright? I’ve definitely improved on it since the last time you saw us.”

Gintoki just smiles, and finishes the dango, reaching out for another stick. He finishes the rest of the sticks on the plate, while Tsukuyo enjoys her smoke, quietly observing the busy crowd in the street.

“Say Tsukki, you’re free tomorrow noon, right? Wanna go out with me?”

Tsukuyo drops kiseru and turns her head to Gintoki, her mouth open, shocked. “Huh?”

Gintoki nods. “There’s the new Aliens Vs Yakuza reboot that they say is actually good. I thought we could go see that movie and get ramen later on. I know a great place for ramen, you’ll love it. It’d be a fun way to enjoy the day.”

Tsukuyo processes it all whilst staring at his eyes, taking it all in word by word, too dizzy. She couldn’t believe it. All these years of harbouring a crush on him, unable to let him know how she felt, only for him to ask her out. This is actually happening?

“…you alright? Earth to Tsukuyo?” He waves his hand in front of her eyes, wondering where she was staring off to. She jolts, her eyes focused back on him. Her head immediately drops down, her blush intensifies, and she murmurs something that he can’t hear. He brings himself closer to her face.

“Couldn’t hear you, what’d you say?”

“…yes.”

He smiles, a big wide grin stretching from ear to ear. He gets up, puts the money for the dango on the table.

“I’ll pick you up at Hinowa’s place tomorrow at 2 then.”

ariana always has really nice vocals, but i have to admit that i probably don’t enjoy all of her new songs preferred to the older ones. it’s just preference but i can’t vibe with them as much

as for wicked games aaaaaa i’m glad you liked it! the weeknd is one of my favourite artists ahah and i always thought it would suit toji. but yeah... his backstory isn’t pretty. at all. i think compared to the grand scale of things and all of the character’s backstories you’ve heard so far in the anime, his is probably one of the most depressing by a landslide. oh god, and yuuta? absolutely tragic... they might even be on par, though perhaps that’s me acting on a bias towards two of my favourites

i have an inkling that when the movie gets released yuuta will be extremely popular :/ i mean, like, i don’t care? don’t mean to go on a tangent but i dislike when ig lesser known characters only gain popularity by conventional means, not because people actually enjoy them or their character. they’ll see him animated and be all “wow! this guy is really cool!” then all the ogs are just sat there like “yes, honey, we told you so” (obviously this excludes anime only fans he was briefly mentioned in the first few episodes— how megumi states that he’s the only other second year he can openly respect, and how he won the kyoto school event by far etc etc, later that one scene of him in the second opening)

trust me u will love baby boy yuuta <3 i don’t share, if ever!! but hell i’ll make an exception for you :)

but in all honesty sometimes i wish i just stuck writing for one fandom because no matter how hard i try there will always be a time where i favour one fandom over the other, e.g i was writing gintama for the longest time, and that’s how my blog started growing, but then i got into haikyuu again and i started writing for them. therefore now because i’m into jjk it’s mainly what i write for and i always feel so terrible for the other fandoms fhsbfhghs

but i don’t hold any regret towards it, i’m glad that i switched to multifandom. i wouldn’t be happy writing for gintama forever, i’d feel so trapped and suffocated in terms of the free reign and variety so it’s all good (: besides i think it’s good to take breaks and to write for characters with vastly different personalities, i always find that my writing becomes a little bit more sharper and accurate when i’m trying to clean up and polish someone else’s dialogue or antics. needless to say, no shade to people who do write for only one fandom, because that takes major dedication so that’s a kudos!

anyways, didn’t mean to ramble on babe LMAO i do have a horde of google docs😭😭 i debated screen recording but there’s so many that after a while of scrolling it has to wait for the next batch to load, so you’ll just have to take my word for it (genuinely wish i could see somewhere that tells me how many overall docs i have, i’m pretty interested to see considering i have around ~500 posts, then again, not all of them are fics)

𝐜𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 — 𝐭.𝐡𝐢𝐣𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐚

𝖯𝖠𝖨𝖱𝖨𝖭𝖦. toushirou hijikata x fem!reader

𝖶𝖠𝖱𝖭𝖨𝖭𝖦𝖲. fluff, cigarettes, mentions of alcohol and scars

𝖲𝖸𝖭𝖮𝖯𝖲𝖨𝖲. hijikata is so busy with work, he forgets to call you after a date. when you meet again, you finally coax him into taking a much needed break from keeping the shinsengumi under control and protecting edo.

𝖠𝖴𝖳𝖧𝖮𝖱'𝖲 𝖭𝖮𝖳𝖤. another little thing i wrote during my study breaks! although I'm more of a simp for gintoki, i couldn't help myself and had to write something for my favorite shinsengumi💕 definitely check out some other gintama blogs, i've found some amazing pieces there!

MASTERLIST

"Cigarette?" The sudden sound of his gruff voice startles you, empty pack slipping out of your freezing hands in surprise before you swiftly turn around to face whoever decided to sneak up on you so rudely in the middle of the night. "Sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you."

Hijikata approaches you with unfaltering steps, a cigarette hanging loosely from his pursed lips and another one rolling between his calloused fingers already stretched into your direction for you to take. The first two buttons of his shirt are undone, his white collar exposes more skin than usual and you can't help but let your curious eyes follow the shadows of his delicate collarbones in the pale lighting of the moon that reaches for the two of you.

"Oh, look who decided to bless me with his presence," you mumble with a sly grin as you take his offer and snatch the cigarette from his grasp, silently asking for a light with an arched brow.

Sighing heavily, Hijikata searches his pockets for his own lighter and carefully holds the flickering flame to your lips until you can take a lazy drag and watch the smoke rise to the darkened sky. "You seem tired, Toshi. I haven't seen you in a while, thought you might call after our third date."

There's no anger behind your words, nothing accusatory nor threatening, only concern glimmering vividly in your enticing eyes when you finally lift your gaze to meet his.

Still, guilt begins to claw at his mind and gnaw at his heart at the sight of you, casually leaning against the wall of the bar you've been drinking in only a few minutes ago — you are so beautiful, fucking angelic underneath the stars and the whole universe surrounding this little planet, he almost feels unworthy of standing next to you.

The scent of your sweet perfume traces over his clothing and curls around his feet stuck in heavy leather boots, tempting him to take a step closer and pull you flush against his sturdy chest.

He doesn't.

Instead, Toushirou only bows his head and stares at the ground with embarrassed determination, a deep blush evident on his pale cheeks. Heat surges through every cell of his being as you considerately rest your hand on his tense shoulder, icy fingertips brushing over the warm skin of his exposed neck and fiddling with the collar of his shirt, carefully smoothing out the small wrinkles in the fabric.

It's a small gesture full of affection and god, does his body cave at your touch, so tender and gentle as if he might break, should your hold on him become too harsh.

“I’m sorry,” Hijikata rasps after a while and lets the gleaming stump of his burnt cigarette drop in the mud. He is tired, you’re awfully right, but he can’t just take a break from work, and leaving Kondo and Sougo unsupervised with the rest of the Shinsengumi for more than five minutes makes nausea bloom in the pit of stomach.

That is impossible, nearly unthinkable and he’s absolutely certain, Edo wouldn’t survive any longer if he’d let these two out of his sight for even the smallest amount of time.

They are more of a hazard to society than its protector and maybe, maybe that’s the reason why he can’t get a decent amount of sleep at night. Though now that Hijikata thinks about it, he'd rather spend his time with you than playing babysitter for two grown men but life doesn't always go as planned.

“Toshi.” His name rolls of your tongue like a prayer, soft-spoken and comforting in a strange way that makes him want to curl against your chest and rest for an eternity, safe and sound in your arms engulfing his broad frame and taking the weight of the world away, just for a fleeting moment. That’s all he wants. “I understand that you’re a busy man and I don’t expect a lot, but you have to take care of yourself. Please.”

The palm of your hand glides over his arm and reaches his own, fingers intertwining as you speak to him, cigarette already burnt to the filter and long forgotten on the ground between your feet. "Work isn't everything and it would be nice to believe that you could spare two minutes to relax... or call me."

“I know, I know,” he replies with a pensive shake of his head. “I should really take a day off once in a while, shouldn’t I?” A smile brightens your features at his thoughtful statement, head vigorously nodding along with each syllable of his words.

Your thumb caresses the back of his hand, draws small circles over his knuckles until you loosen your grasp seconds later, and delicately wrap your fingers around his arm instead, bringing his wrist to your lips to press a chaste kiss to his skin, right where he’s shown you a battle scar on your second date. His pulse flutters excitedly under the sensation of your lips on the inside of his wrist and he has to bite back a small groan at the loss of contact when you pull back.

“Come with me, Toshi. Let me take care of you for one day and then you can go back to work, you need some time off.” A reluctant tug on his black sleeve follows your offer and soon enough, he finds himself trailing after you like a lost puppy, seeking your warmth with a small smile tugging on the corners of his mouth.

Slowing your pace, you throw a glance over your shoulder and wait patiently until he’s caught up to you. Without a second thought, he takes your hand and although a part of him fears what the Shinsengumi might do without him around, he can’t wait to spend some time with you.
