Favorite food?

hello late answer cause i was busy losing a quiz <3 also struggled to put together a coherent answer.

short answer is: i dont know. it depends.

long answer is: i have come to realise i might have a strained relationship with the concept of favourites maybe especially when it comes to food. since cooking for myself, i don’t vary what i eat much on a short-term basis and i think this has helped me realise im not actually able to point to any one food in particular that id choose over all other foods even in a scenario where i dont have to prepare that food myself. i generally dont consider myself picky, i have many things i like and i can eat those for relatively long periods of time without getting tired of them. and so during these periods ig whatever dish im fixating on is my favourite? maybe? how do favourites work?

#genuinely I’ve had the same thing for lunch every day at least during work days since September #For dinner I’ve had maybe a total of six different dishes in the past seven months #And that’s only because occasionally during I don’t know if fixations is the right word to use but during these same dish phases #I’d make something different because I felt like it in the moment #so I think out of the seven months I’ve been living here. how do I say this? #i’ve had the same three dishes for dinner at approximately one or two months at a time #so dish one for a couple months dish two for a couple months dish three a couple months #I’m currently back on dish two it’s having a reprise #ask #grassbreads

Maybe I shouldn't have asked you that considering I'm not 100% on my own answer lol but we'll give it a go. Top 5 (not in order) or at least 5 that come to mind as favourites

Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It wasn't that long ago that I read this book but god, this is such good sci-fi. It's particularly appealing to me as someone who studies biology, I think because the evolutionary world-building is so juicy and fun. Also made me, known arachnophobe, feel deeply sympathetic to the wonderful spiders in this book (Portia <3). Something about seeing non-mammalian, non-humanoid societies being explored was uniquely engaging, and the spider misandry was really funny. Genuinely intelligent book with a good sense of humour and great characters of the human and non-human variety.

Tehanu by Ursula Le Guin. I love the whole Earthsea series so much and it was hard to pick a favourite of them but I do think Tehanu stands as the one I personally enjoy most. Earthsea was something I read for the first time in I think my early teens and it's really stood the test of time. Great fantasy series with a lot of heart. Tehanu might be less fantastical than some of the other entries but it has some of the best characterisation. It also centres a female perspective a little more than the previous books so I enjoyed that.

Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda. I am cheating by naming the whole series but I own an omnibus so fuck it. It's a kids book series and not necessarily something I'd recommend to anyone my own age who doesn't already have nostalgia for it, but it absolutely stands as great in my eyes. It was among some of first series to foster my love of reading and I'm really attached to it for that. It still has some of my favourite creature designs/concepts in anything ever and the world always felt really exciting because of it. Also there's a surprisingly rich amount of lore in the series and side books that I absolutely devoured when I was younger. And it's an Australian book series so this is a point of national pride for me.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. The first book of the Hitchhiker's guide series is certainly the best in my eyes. And actually I'm only especially fond of the first two books in the series but those books are amazing. Douglas Adams' writing is hilarious and creative with some of the best descriptions I've ever come across. It's just about the wittiest thing I've ever come across and I adore it. Good for anyone who likes sci-fi or fun.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. The first Neil Gaiman book I ever read actually. I picked it up after recognising his name from the credits of some Doctor Who episodes lol. The setting appeals to me in particular and I've always liked things with worlds on top of one another or just barely hidden from view. But besides all that I also have fondness for it as a way of bonding with my dad. After reading Neverwhere he followed suit and then we got into a rhythm of trading Neil Gaiman books back and forth between each other. It's weird now that I know who he is though and am always seeing him get reblogged by someone on my tumblr dash lmao

Man, this was such a hard question. I like reading a lot and it's always so hard to pick favourites. Too many criteria to judge on... it's overwhelming.

Heyo, I want you guys' feedback for something important!

Tumblr eating my post earlier got me thinking, and given the sheer amount of writing I've done on this blog, it would probably be a good idea to start backing up my meta somewhere that won't randomly make some posts (or even whole blogs) disappear out of nowhere. So:

I'm hypothetically down for any of these (or any combination thereof).

A few notes:

For those unfamiliar with Pillowfort, it does require either an invitation link or a $5 payment to join. I'm happy to send invite links, but this might be a limiter

If I start reposting (more) on Pillowfort, it'll probably be on my main grassbreads account. I already have a handful of VnC posts on there, including some that are reposts from this blog.

Please only vote for making my own website if you think you (or anyone else) would actually, like, visit it. It's a cool idea in theory, but I don't think it's worth the effort of making it if I'm the only one that ever goes there 😔.

Hey, no guarantee I'll actually do this anytime soon, but I'm flirting with the idea of running a big vnc-related poll bracket, and I'd like y'all's thoughts on some of the variables.

First of all, I'm undecided on theme. I've posted before about the idea of a "who's most likely to die first" poll, but I also like the idea of doing a sequel to my mxtx bugpoll from my other sideblog and making the theme "which character do you most want to study like a little bug?"

If I do the bugpoll, that also opens me up to doing a broader mochijun poll and including pandora hearts (and maybe crimson-shell??) characters as well. But! If I do that, then it's no longer entirely tailored to this blog, so I'd have to decide whether to host it here or put it somewhere else so vnc only fans can avoid.

Anyway, that's a lot of variables, but please tell me which version of this idea appeals to y'all most.
