Hollywood Center Studios at 1040 Las Palmas, also known as General Service Studios, was - and is - the ultimate comedy factory.
Harold Lloyd had a piece of the studio and it was here that he made Grandma's Boy (1922), The Freshman (1925), Movie Crazy (1932), and Professor Beware (1938). It’s also where Laurel and Hardy filmed the interiors for Flying Deuces (1939) and where the Marx Brothers made A Night in Casablanca (1946).
The many television comedies made here include I Love Lucy, The Burns and Allen Show, Our Miss Brooks, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Mister Ed, Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, Get Smart, The Addams Family, Pryor’s Place, The Cosby Show, Roc, Daddy Dearest starring Don Rickles, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Everybody Loves Raymond, Pee Wee’s Playhouse, The Ben Stiller Show, Mad TV, and Comedy Central programs hosted by David Spade, Norm Macdonald, Jeff Ross, Anthony Jeselnik, and Sarah Silverman.
Still a busy series of sound stages, it has been in continuous operation for 104 straight years!

Cool Windy Cloudy Misty Summer Mornings
Harold Silverman There is something about the feeling of a cloudy, cool morning that piques the imagination, especially during the summer months. I don’t know if it’s the wind blowing a little harder, stirring the trees and windchimes that provide a musical background, or the songs of the birds early on, or the gentle cling of humidity to your skin, letting you know rain is not far away. But…

On this date in music history…
August 1st
1987 - Bob Seger
Bob Seger scored his first US No.1 single with the Harold Faltermeyer penned 'Shakedown', which was taken from the film 'Beverly Hills Cop II'. The song was nominated for both the Academy Award for Best Original Song and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, but it lost both awards to Dirty Dancing's '(I've Had) The Time of My Life'.
1987 - Los Lobos
Los Lobos were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with their version of the Ritchie Valens song 'La Bamba', which was also a No.1 hit in the US. The song was the title track from the film based on Ritchie Valens who died in the same plane crash the killed Buddy Holly.
1987 - Dire Straits
MTV Europe was launched, the first video played being 'Money For Nothing' by Dire Straits which contained the appropriate line 'I Want My MTV'.
1987 - Dave Stewart
Eurythmics Dave Stewart married Bananarama founding member Siobham Fahey, (who later formed the BRIT Award and Ivor Novello award winning Shakespears Sister). The couple divorced in 1996.
1981 - Rick Springfield
Australian singer Rick Springfield started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Jessie's Girl', which later won the singer a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. The song was at No.1 when MTV launched on 1 August 1981. Rick had played Noah Drake in the TV show General Hospital.
1981 - Shakin' Stevens
Welsh singer Shakin' Stevens had his second UK No.1 single with his version of 'Green Door', which had been a hit in the US for Jim Lowe in 1956 (squeezing out 'Love Me Tender' by Elvis Presley). Frankie Vaughan also scored a UK No.2 hit with the song in 1956.
1971 - George Harrison
The Concert For Bangladesh organised by George Harrison to aid victims of famine and war in Bangladesh took place at New York's Madison Sq Garden. Featuring Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, Ravi Shankar and members from Badfinger. Harrison had to shell out his own money to maintain the fund after legal problems froze all proceeds. The triple album release (the second in a row by Harrison), hit No.1 in the UK and No.2 in the US and received the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
1971 - Sonny & Cher
The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour started on prime time American TV. By this time, Sonny and Cher had stopped producing hit singles so the duo decided to sing and tell jokes in nightclubs across the country. CBS head of programming Fred Silverman saw them one evening and offered them their own show.
1970 - The Rolling Stones
The film Performance featuring Mick Jagger in his acting debut, had its UK premiere in London. The British crime drama film directed by Donald Cammell and Nicolas Roeg also featured James Fox.
1969 - Joni Mitchell
The three day US Atlantic City Pop Festival took place at the Atlantic City race track with B.B. King, Janis Joplin, Santana, Three Dog Night, Dr John, Procol Harum, Arthur Brown, Iron Butterfly, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Little Richard, Tim Buckley, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, The Mothers Of Invention and Canned Heat. Joni Mitchell started to cry and ran off stage in the middle of her third song because the crowd was not paying attention to her performance.
1964 - The Harmonica
Billboard Magazine reported that the harmonica was making a comeback in a big way thanks to its use by Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Bob Dylan.
1964 - The Beatles
The Beatles scored their fifth US No.1 single in seven months when 'A Hard Day's Night' went to the top of the charts. The group had now spent seventeen weeks at the No.1 position in this year.
1963 - The Beatles
The first Beatles Monthly was published. A magazine devoted to the group, it continued for 77 editions until 1969 and at its peak was selling over 350,000 copies a month.

Just watched Stealing home and... am I the only one who thinks Alan is way more interesting than Bill? First: he’s Jonathan Silverman (young) and Harold Ramis (adult)!!! Second: he’s a funny, horny bastard! Third: he’s just so charming and witty! And... is it after the rendez-vous with the older woman that he became Alan *The Horse* Appleby?  😏😏😄

The Quest for Watching HR's Movies Continues into the Spring
At some point I think I need to acquire Analyze This AND Analyze That for my DVD collection...if anything for Harold's directorial commentaries...and seeing Robert DeNiro display his fine sweary comic chops.
I obtained copies of "Stuart Saves His Family" and "Multiplicity" to peruse at any time...will watch them in the near future, guess I'm not in that big a rush.
Then there's the films Harold had a hand in PRODUCING, not directing. Some of these sound like a good time to be had:
"I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With"
Tumblr media
From 2006, with Amy Sedaris, Sarah Silverman, and a great looking comedic cast, directed by Jeff "Buttercup" Garlin, another Second City alum.
"The First $20 Million is Always the Hardest."
Tumblr media
From 2002, with Adam Garcia, Rosario Dawson, and Enrico Colantoni.
Tumblr media
Docu-historical movie released in 2012; Harold was a patron of a dance/ballet company in Chicago.
Tumblr media
AKA "My Suicide" from 2009...with David Carradine and Nora Dunn. Sounds like a serious dramedy...wonder how Harold got involved in producing it.
Anyway, the project continues.
Rock on, Harold Nation!

540 Local Elected Officials From All 50 States Urge Prez Trump to Import More Refugees to U.S.
Joe Biden has promised to make this happen, including taking in foreigners from terrorist hotspots around the world. In fact, Joe Biden was one of the original architects of the fraud-ridden refugee program that has destroyed neighborhoods across the U.S.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
by Ann Corcoran
I told you here that the refugee industry was working on a letter to the President urging him to get the refugee flow into America moving again.
Yesterday they sent the letter with 540 signatories.
Says Amnesty International:
By signing this letter, these elected officials have joined together to voice their commitment to welcoming refugees in their communities and reviving the United States’ legacy as a leader in refugee resettlement.
I notice something missing from the letter. It avoids giving the President a number, but the industry has made it very clear!
They want 95,000 refugees to begin arriving on October first.
The President could make a decision this month on how many refugees might be invited to live in the US in FY2021. He could also legally set the ceiling at zero.
All of my posts on the topic are tagged FY2021.
Here are the signatories from yesterday.  The list is handy for identifying those local elected officials who are changing America by changing the people.
I don’t know why the organizers think that these open borders advocates will hold any sway with the President, but they sure make it handy for you to identify the other side where you live. Target them for retirement when they come up for re-election!
(For a little additional fun, see last year’s list here.)
They say the list is bipartisan, but there is no indication of party affiliation.  You will need to look through those listed in your state to see if Republicans are among those looking to import more poverty to your city.

Stealing Home - barely even remember
Why we went to go see this in the theater is beyond me. I guess we went to a lot of movies in those days. Mark Harmon plays an ex-baseball player who comes back to his home town to live, to deal with the ashes of a former love who had committed suicide. Through flashbacks we learn of his relationship with this woman, and he 'finds himself' in the process (thanks to imdb for reminding me what this movie was about, because frankly I had forgotten).
So-so wannabe tearjerker that fails to hit its mark. Just slightly above 'straight to video' quality.

------------------------------------------------
okay so, someone sent this in my inbox some time ago and i forgot about it! anyway my opinion is gonna be pretty disappointing cause i know almost nothing about actors/actresses, but from what i know i can say that:
antonio banderas as alejandro makes me laugh so much, because i can't help but associating banderas with some commercials he did for promoting biscuits where he talked with a chicken named rosita
kristen bell as zoey would be the cutest thing, i love that woman and i love zoey
lupita as jasmine????heart eyes emojis
i approve nick jonas as topher, this also makes me laugh a bit because of, y'know, camp rock and that stuff
and i know some of the actors from rr, but i havent watched a lot of that season yet, so i can't remember which character is who
