Since the nun wore a religious vestment, I kept religion as a central plot of the story. It was a matter of life and death, good versus evil. Simple James Wan logic. So, I did something unexpected. I wrote a part of the story, where Treena sees the shadow on the wall. Ideas kept flowing through my head, guiding me like an invisible force. I kept typing. I stopped writing till the part where the apparition threatened her if she wasn't quiet. After I finished writing the draft in the IG comment section, I wrote it down in my book and deleted it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The story is inspired by Uber Facts IG post. It featured Vera Farmiga standing in a room that had the portrait of the demonic nun behind her. Lorraine was looking down at something. I immediately got an idea of writing another horror story keeping the demonic nun in mind.
Tumblr media
Then began the process of writing the plotlines before Treena saw the shadow on the wall. If you've read the story description, you will know Treena's father sent his daughter to a convent school. The other reason I used religion as a plot point was that I had never written any Wattpad story about religion. Then I added Jennifer as her dorm mate and gave her a backstory with her own set of problems. I described the architecture of the convent school, making it look spooky. Then I added the suspicious-looking nun and the innocent Principal.
Tumblr media
The part where Treena is attacked by a snake was very difficult to write as I was having writer's block. The demon tried to kill her several times. But someone or rather something was acting as a protective force for Treena. Then I wrote the past of the school. If you've read the story, you'll know how the story goes back to the 1800s, where a family of five. I have never written a story that had eighteen-century lingo in it, so I asked a friend for help. I should ask my editor if she knew how to write such a story. To my luck, she told me she was familiar with the lingo.
Tumblr media
I named the book 'Come, Dark' was because there was another Wattpad book with the same name. I had not read the book, so I don't know what the story is about. The only difference in the title is a comma. I chose to insert a comma in the title as if someone invited the darkness to live amongst the family. If you've read the story, you'll know how the youngest daughter confided in one of her sisters about Agatha. About the chapter titles, I thought of doing something different. I named each chapter after the shades of dark. If you go through the Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus, you will find that the word 'dark' has many synonyms. I used those synonyms as the title of each chapter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, that was all I had to talk about my writing journey on Wattpad. I hope you liked reading it. Let me know in the comments below.
I don’t know when I will be back with a new book. I have already written the plot lines of a horror novel. It involves LGBTQIA references. I have already named two of the the characters for now. I hope I can get back to writing one day.
Till then, goodbye for now!
XOXO,
Alizey.

On Instagram, our guests use our brand hashtag #strikeitup to submit images and videos of themselves in our centers, for a chance to win gift cards in our ongoing consumer promotion, and we are then able to feature these assets in all of our marketing channels. Now let’s move on to part two. Sorry for keeping you waiting. I had other work to look into.
Tumblr media
In September 2018, I watched 'Howl' (2015). It a British-indie horror flick by Paul Hyett on the television. I had to watch it three times to memorize the dialogues. The film lacked in its dialogue but was an average watch. The best part about the film was the werewolves' costume design. The background score was also very good.
Tumblr media
I felt that Howl wasn't worth writing a fanfic about. The characters in the movie kept shouting when the train derailed in the middle of the forest. I loved the male protagonist, Joe Griffins (played by Edward Speelers). He saved the film from being a complete flop. He sacrificed himself by protecting Ellen (Holly Weston) at the end of the movie. I was so moved by it. I convinced myself that I had to write a fanfic.
Tumblr media
I wrote a fanfic for 'Howl' because the film didn't receive that much exposure it needed. When I thought about it, I felt that I had to give some justice to elevate its status. The film's depiction of strangers trapped in a claustrophobic train was the best part I had ever seen. The way Joe dealt with the problem was something that I liked about the film.
Tumblr media
The old cover for the book (if you see in the media above), had the font of the digital railway clock. I was searching for a Pinterest image that had a moving train shot as a blur. There were one or two good quality images that fit the exact requirements. After the editing, I thought that why not make changes to the original trailer. I had no idea how to edit the trailer, so I downloaded the trailer for safekeeping. Then in May 2017, I visited my cousin from another village, and he had this Adobe Premiere Pro. I told him I was making a trailer for my Wattpad book, and he uploaded the trailer on the software. I told him to add the captions between the scenes. I removed some scenes from the original trailer and added Wattpad's logo at the end.
Tumblr media
I intended to post the video on YouTube, but it got flagged down due to copyright rules. I decided to post it on IG highlights, but the end part got chopped out somehow…I don't know. One year later, I changed the cover, and I don't plan on altering it. See it below:
Tumblr media
The reason I named the book 'The Contagion' was because, in the book, one of the train passengers gets bitten by a werewolf. The woman is later transformed into a werewolf establishing the fact that the bite is 'contagious in nature'.

It took around 2 or 3 months to write and edit this book. I remember that before writing the book, Jared Leto’s ‘Morbius' trailer had dropped online. I watched the trailer, and it was mind-blowing. Jared is freaking good. A few days later, I watched the trailer on YouTube, and the comments were of a different level.
Tumblr media
I have very high expectations of this movie whenever it releases. I hope Leto does a good job in his role as Morbius.
Tumblr media
Let’s move on to writing the book. I had inclined to write a love story where Morbius had already turned into a vampire. He had fallen in love with one of the scientists who was working with him in the lab. I had not made the plan of segregating the story into chapters yet, but it was a vague idea that had occurred to me. Then I discarded it. I didn't know what to write later and also because most vampire books on Wattpad have vampire romance as the plot.
Tumblr media
So, I wondered what new should I write, which was not cliché. I wanted it to match my previous writing style. An idea came to mind. Some years back, there was a Disney show called 'Camp Rock', which was quite a rage amongst the teenagers. I felt that I could make a story from the title itself. I wrote a horror story based on a school camping trip. I got ideas about a blood bath and students running on a quiet road. I pictured them running downslope with red light falling on their face. For a moment, I wondered why my brain was telling me to think like this, but then I didn't want to stop my thought process. Thick, dense trees were rustling in the wind. There was a white sleeper bus that had bloody handprints everywhere. The windscreen was destroyed, and there was broken glass everywhere.
Tumblr media
I merged Morbius' 'probable comic depiction story' with my thought process. I took care not to worry about what the outcome would be. The reason I wrote 'probable comic depiction story' was that I have not read the comics. I wrote down the story in a plot format. I gave each chapter a name, something which I haven't done before.
Tumblr media
Now about the ending. The original ending was to be different. But I wanted the protagonist to die, something which some readers will hate. I wasn't getting a good cover on Pinterest. So I decided to include something which was a part of Dani's dreams—the blood moon. Which is why the cover features a blood moon shining through a scary forest. The best part of writing Camp Terror is that it is not more than twenty chapters. It was super easy to write, and my editor did a fantastic job of editing. It didn't take long to write. I completed it around two or three months.

Oh, wow, this book was a joy ride. I had watched 'The Amazing Spiderman 2' on the television somewhere through the middle. Harry Osborne (Dane DeHaan) and Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) in the spacious Oscorp office. Harry sat in a gigantic regal leather chair while Peter stood a few meters away, facing him. Harry tells Peter about his deteriorating health and says that he is in urgent need of a cure. He then shows him a video on his television screen about the animal trails that Oscorp was working on. Peter looks confused. Harry explains that he had considered using one of the trails on himself, but it wasn't ready for a human trial.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborne from ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’
Harry knew that Peter knew Spiderman and requested him to get his blood sample. Peter conflicts as he wants to help him but cannot. He doesn't want to tell Harry about him being Spiderman. Harry misunderstands him, thinking that Peter doesn't want to help him. They argue. Peter is afraid that Harry might press him for more information, leaves his office. Outside, he meets Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). Peter informs her that Harry's health is deteriorating and he is searching for a cure. He tells her that he told Harry that he isn't sure if Spiderman's blood will cure him of his ailment.
Tumblr media
Later, Harry visits Ravencroft Institute, where he meets Maxwell Dillon. He helps him break out of his cell, and allows Max to take control of the power grid at Oscorp since it was his design. Electro causes a citywide blackout challenging Spiderman to fight him. After a long battle, Spiderman defeats Electro with the help of Gwen Stacy.
Tumblr media
But that was not all. The real villain was yet to arrive. Harry Osborne's health was deteriorating at a fast pace. Unable to control the pain, he gets hold of one of the scientists working in the lab and orders him to open one of the vials. He orders him to inject the serum in his veins, which the scientist opposes at first. Harry transfers into something monstrous. The serum had opposite effects. His fingers grow into talons, his body spasm and convulse into a hunching pale green monster. His eyes lost their boyish charm. They were menacing green. His hair stuck out at odd angles. His teeth were like shards of glass.
Tumblr media
Harry escaped from Oscorp using the glider. He reached the power grid and seeing Gwen with Spiderman, and realized that Peter is Spiderman. He realized that his childhood friend was lying to him all along. Enraged, he swoops upon Gwen and throws her down the clock tower. Peter saves her. The friends battle each other upon which Gwen falls to her death.
Tumblr media
To build Harry's story, I researched Harry Osborne from Wikipedia. I wanted to know if Harry Osborne had any problems with his family. Well, I was right. I found some Fandom articles that Harry and Norman were not on good terms with each other. It started with an incident that haunts Norman. Harry's mother died during childbirth. His father, devastated by her death, vented all his anger on his son. Norman neglected his son. He buried himself in his work and built his company Oscorp. As a result, Harry became lonely, and they would fight often.
Tumblr media
When I was writing the story, I never that I would write about an antagonist. I had planned to make her protagonist, but then I felt that most stories feature a protagonist. So why not create an antagonist in the garb of a protagonist. Immediately the ideas followed. Her moves were smart and fluid. Her motto—revenge. Valery was not perfect. She was taking on the world's most-loved heroes, and one slip would reveal all. She trained hard. But sometimes, her mind would play cruel tricks on her. Her nightmares became more and more real until they robbed her of her sleep.
Tumblr media
Sokovia was a fictional country featured in AOU and Agents of SHEILD. To understand Sokovia’s past, I jumped to Wikipedia only to find that there was a lot of information about it. There were references that Ultron had destroyed Sokovia like how it was in AOU. I used Sokovia as the birthplace of my antagonist. I gave her a sorrowful backstory and included the plot of revenge. Her only confidant was her brother, who sympathized with her and understood her.
Tumblr media
Once Valery murders Timothy in his dorm, her suspicions on who was spying on her grows. Her mentor leaves the rest of the mission in her hands as SHIELD was looking out for a suspicious person. Valery makes a new plan to kill Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) using Venom (Eddie Brock)'s help. She attends Harry Osborne's party, where she mixes a drop of poison in his drink and escapes. The reason I included Venom in this book was that he would act as a lookout for her. Venom has a dislike for Spiderman in the comics, so I needed to get them together. Valery convinces him that they both can finish off Spiderman together.
Tumblr media
Valery gets a shocker when she gets back to Sokovia. When you read the book on Wattpad, you’ll learn that Sokovia is not a democratic country. She forms a secret organization. They buy arms and ammunition to overthrow the government. After a lot of resistance from the royal soldiers, they manage to overthrow the fake monarch. But nothing lasts forever. Valery dies on the day of her coronation by the monarch's faithful duo.
Tumblr media
Now coming to the name of the book. The reason I named the book ‘The Devil Amongst Us’ is quite simple. The answer lies in the title itself. Valery was 'the devil amongst the American citizens.' So 'us' refers to the people of America. An outsider, living like an American citizen. I had planned to name it 'The Devil May Cry' based on the Japanese slasher video game of the same name. I have never played the video game, but I had read about it in a local newspaper. It had two or three parts after the first was a hit.
Tumblr media
Once the English version of TDAU was out, I made a Bosnian version of it. I translated it using Google Translate. And boy, the damn website would only translate one page and a time. I have no idea how accurate the translation is. I crossed my fingers and relied on Google to do it.

Welcome to my Tumblr blog. Here I will give my honest opinions and pour out my thoughts about the ideas behind my Wattpad books. You can take inspiration from this blog when you are planning to write a novel. I wanted to write a separate Wattpad book where I could talk about this. But I then decided that I wanted to reach a wider audience, and Tumblr was better suited for this purpose.
Please note: This will be posted in parts every Friday!
Edited by @wayward-heronstairs , @hashtag-amf and Hemingway Editor
Tumblr media
I started my Wattpad journey in May 2016. I was staying at my cousin’s house, and she asked me whether I knew about the app called Wattpad. I had never heard the name before. It was such an odd name for an app, I thought to myself. I was not interested in downloading the app because reading didn't appeal to so much. A few hours later, I downloaded Wattpad. Yay.
Tumblr media
Then came the shocker. I got my first follower. A thin guy with spectacles. I was nervous because I had never been on a social media platform before. I didn't know what to do. I was staring at his profile pic, wondering if he was a psychopath or just crazy enough to follow me on Wattpad. I am anxious like that. I wondered how on earth did he find my account within six hours as I had not posted any stories on Wattpad yet.
Tumblr media
The first book I read on Wattpad was fanfic about 'The Fault in Our Stars.' At that time, I had no idea what fanfic was. I picked that book to read because I had watched TFIOS twice now. Unfortunately, I didn't like the fanfic, so I uninstalled the app the same night.
Tumblr media
Then came December of 2016. It was the Christmas holidays, and I was very tired of studying. I owned that crappy Nokia XL neon green phone. Urgh, that stock Android phone was a nightmare. I downloaded Wattpad and looked for some good books to read. At that time, Midika Crane’s books were a huge hit. Her books had those dark black and white covers were guys with eight pack abs stared out of the cover at the reader. At first, I hated the cover because I thought she hadn't done a great job of selecting a good cover for the book. I remember clicking on 'Alpha Kaden', a currently published novel. I had spent half an hour on one page trying to decipher what was written. Halfway through the Prologue and I couldn't read more. Her professional level of writing was not understandable by me.
Tumblr media
When I was halfway done with Midika’s book, I added ‘She’s With Me’ by Ava Violet to my Wattpad reading list. It was such an amazing book. I loved reading it. It was about Amelia who was running away from her past. She had enrolled herself in the school. I don’t remember the name because I read it a long time back) and she meets the heartthrob of the school and his friends. The story was like a cliché romance novel but what stood out was Amelia’s back story.
Tumblr media
After reading more than 90 books on Wattpad I decided to make a writing debut on Wattpad. I spent more time reading Wattpad books than studying. I would read Wattpad books in the canteen, the student's study room, at home when my mom wasn't watching. It was addicting. In 2017, the first book I wrote was a fanfic of Hellboy, the 2004 film. I never imagined myself writing fanfiction about a movie I was so scared to watch. As a child, I was so terrified of that movie that the moment I saw Hellboy on the screen, I would look away in fear. All that I remember as a kid was the scene from the second installment of the movie 'The Golden Army'. He was holding twin infants wrapped in a white blanket. There was some sort of fantasy creatures running around the street. Hellboy was spot on with his aim, that she shot them with his gun.
Tumblr media
Then in May 2014, I got a chance to watch Hellboy on the television again. As a teenager, I wasn't scared of him anymore, but I was more intrigued by it. I loved that movie so much that I had a crush on John Myers (Rupert Evans). He was 'the dude that didn't get the girl', you know. I empathized with him as he took so much trouble by fighting alongside Hellboy. He deserved more.
Tumblr media
Later in the movie, the professor tells John that he is dying, and Hellboy needs someone in his absence. In the movie, Hellboy treated Myers like trash. He is more of a nanny and less of an FBI Agent. And because of this, Myers tells the professor that he cannot stay at the BRDP any longer. The professor tells him that he chose him for a reason as he saw potential in Myers. He adds that in many medieval stories there is a white night and Myers was that. He tells him to take care of Hellboy after he passes away.
Tumblr media
Another reason why I felt like writing fanfic was that Myers and Liz's chemistry was so adorable. He tried his best to flirt with Liz (Selma Blair). I hoped that he and Liz ended up as a couple. But Hollywood movies are unkind to side actors. So, when Hellboy got the girl, my heart dropped. My heart couldn't handle it. I was screaming at this heartbreaking injustice. I was like, this man needs a girl. I had to make a way to help him get the girl so that I didn't have this heaviness building inside me.
Tumblr media
Above: Rupert Evans as John Myers in Hellboy (2004)
And thanks to being a Wattpad writer, I came up with my own story. I named it Hellboy 3. The reason for keeping this title was because of Hellboy: The Golden Army released in 2008. I didn’t want to confuse readers about which Hellboy movie the fanfic was about. I researched Wikipedia thinking that Rupert Evans had reprised his role as John Myers in it, but I was wrong. As per Wikipedia reports, Evans was filming ‘The Kiss of a Spiderwoman’ so he couldn’t be a part of the movie.
Tumblr media
Writing the fanfic was challenging. I was stumbling through the dialogues and the scenes. I thought that this will not get more than 20 chapters, but if I am not wrong, it surpassed 20 chapters. The story got some likes, some encouraging comments, but then I was not happy with my writing. I deleted it.
Tumblr media
In 2017-ish, I wrote another story about vampires. I wrote down the story on one of the leftover books I had in my drawer. I had a good time writing it as it was one of my original stories. I made my original characters, a mythical place cursed by time. I named it ‘The Kingsmen’. Then after I had filled half of the pages by writing, I decided it was time to edit. I posted it on Wattpad. I published the chapters with no updating schedule. After surpassing fifteen chapters, I deleted the book because the grammar was awful. I felt I was adding unnecessary commas after the dialogues. I didn't have someone to edit the story, and I also had this nagging suspicion that my mom knew I wasn't studying. I hated college because I would get tired, and the studies bored me to the core. I studied for the heck of it. Everything was fine when one fine day, I forgot the password to my Wattpad account.
Tumblr media
It was hell on earth. Panic rose within me. It was like the end of the world was near. I tried to calm myself down. I had to remember the password. I felt that I was such a miserable person for forgetting a simple thing as a password. I tried password recovery. I scourged my Gmail account for the recovery link, but Wattpad wasn't sending the link. At that time, Wattpad was super slow when it came to sending recovery links for passwords. I remember Wattpad sent me recovery passwords five hours later. Wattpaders know that logging via recovery link is time-sensitive. When I clicked the link, Wattpad said that the link wasn't valid. I did this three times till my patience wore me out.
Tumblr media
I was devastated. I had put so much of my heart and soul while writing that book. It was my baby, and now the account was gone….I didn't cry. Thank God I didn't cry. I was sad. It felt like someone took a piece of my heart away from me and didn't return it.
Tumblr media
This is how it looked:
Tumblr media
In January 2018, I made a new account on Wattpad. Now I have written down all the passwords in a notebook, not going to repeat the mistake.
Tumblr media
Okay! This was the end of part one. Tell me how you liked it!!
By the way, I got the chance to watch Hellboy (2004) on the television today. John Myers is such a cutie!! Please check my latest IG highlights for the video. I cannot embedded the video on Tumblr :(
