The TAMLAIN shippers? They are crazy. Please tell me you can at least agree with that one? Idk your stance on Tamlin, but even theories have a limit. I don't know in what world Elain would end up with her sister's ex who literally trapped her in a house 🙄

Why do people hate elain so much that they want her to end up alone when she has not one but two love interests at the moment, or they want her to end up with a guy SJM literally called an asshole several times? weird weird weird !

The Tamlain ship is very disturbing to me too. These are HEA romance books and that HEA does not just mean a HEA for the main couple. I truly do not think Sarah would write the story of Tamlin and Elain, where their pairing would cause so much hurt for the others who are supposed to have found their happily ever afters. Tamlin joining Elain to celebrate Nyx's birthday and Rhys and Feyre's house? Tamlin, having verbally and physically assaulted Lucien, ending up with the mate of the male who tried to help TAMLIN'S court to the point he performed the Rite in place of Tamlin with the women who s.xually assaulted him? Tamlin having terrified Nesta and Elain by breaking down their door and kidnapping Feyre, then causing Feyre trauma? I do understand the debates, where Tamlin was also in a bad place and Rhys and Feyre both let him continuing believing in Rhys's lies, however that doesn't change Feyre's perception of the past. She feels Tamlin caused her mental harm and while I can understand the nuances behind his actions, she should still not be forced to have him as a part of family get togethers. I don't think Tamlin is evil and I do think there is a hea for him somewhere out there but when the author is on record as calling Tamlin a douche, that he sucks, and calls Lucien one of her favorite characters, I think the Tamlain ship is going down the exact river the Brycriel shippers are now sailing.

Ik you said this ages ago and in the tags of a post, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on Rüdeger and his mental health

anon i'm down on one knee proposing rn thank you for sending this in

stray thoughts and ramblings (sorry if this is messy, it's getting to 6 am and i have Not slept):

i'm really curious as to how his identity interacts with his faith. from my understanding, monasteries were intended to be safe havens away from the secular world (my notes from a course on early mediaeval monasticism call them "a place where a life similar to that of the angels takes place, a harbour of calm that resists the storms of the world of outside") - and so he's in this space that's meant to be separated from "sin" but at the same time, he's living in it through his identity* and relationship (at least according to the institution he's a part of). i'd love to know how he views himself, the church, the concept of sin in the first place - like obviously he's terrified of anyone finding out about them, but from memory it's expressed more so as worry over mathieu? which in turn makes me wonder if that's because he's at peace with his own fate due to self-deprecating reasons and so doesn't bother worrying about himself (i'm sinful and will go to hell regardless but mathieu deserves better) or if he thinks there's nothing sinful about their relationship in the first place (and so persecuting mathieu, the man he loves, over it, is unfathomable and unfair) [*i'm aware that the concept of queerness as an identity is more contemporary, but i couldn't think of a better word]

also curious as to how he ended up at kiersau. we don't know his backstory - how'd he end up becoming a monk? did something happen to drive him towards it? is there a precedent for him running away from things (if andreas blackmails him and mathieu, he leaves, i think to protect mathieu)? inquiring minds would like to know

hc time: i think that the town turning on them in act II feels that much more terrifying because while they're not persecuting him because of his queerness, it's entirely likely that they/others would, if their relationship was revealed. so the whole thing is like a manifestation of his worst fears. no wonder he's upstairs having a panic attack

SPEAKING OF. anxiety girlie who gets panic attacks and self-soothes by singing. and i'm sure mathieu's presence calms him (doubly so because mathieu's probably the only person in his life who gets it. who understands him. who sees him without that act of perceiving being judgemental)

another question: what does rüdeger himself think of his mental health issues? we have the language to describe it now, with modern terms, but - and not to paint with a broad stroke - a 16th century monk probably wouldn't necessarily internalise something like a panic attack as being a health issue, but rather a spiritual affliction. which brings me back to wondering how he thinks of himself, and of god, and if it's possible he views his issues as a divine punishment (like how some fundies describe depression as like. being something given to them by the devil? that they can pray away?)

in my self-indulgent hc, he feels better after leaving kiersau. mathieu getting a big promotion probably brings new anxieties but at the same time, makes them just a bit more untouchable. also, if andreas was not an asshole about discovering them in the library, i feel that'd give him an opportunity to see that people can be good and understanding about him/them (though i also have a feeling that rüdeger is the type of person to believe the best about people, at least when's he's not actively spiralling. mathieu does describe him as "a gentle soul" and "a kind and thoughtful man")

It's time to get everybody's favorite racist uncle Shinon back on our side! I only had to restart this map once, and it was because I forgot to bring Volke to open the chests. Otherwise, it was pretty smooth sailing.

Never change, Ike.

There he is... I honestly have such conflicted feelings about Shinon. He's one of those characters that I hate as a person, but at the same time, I appreciate him as a character. He adds a very important element to the Greil Mercs, in that he creates conflict, because he's an instigator by nature, like in the beginning when his values conflict with Titania's. Plus, the Greil Mercs call themselves a family, and you can't have a family without at least one racist asshole, right?

And okay, yes, his relationship with Rolf is cute. Apparently his support conversations with Janaff are really interesting, but I've never read them. Maybe I should do that sometime.

I don't plan on using Shinon in PoR, though. Rolf has exceeded my expectations, so he's going to remain my one and only archer. I'll probably use Shinon in RD, though, at least in part 3. I doubt I'll be bringing him to endgame, but we'll see.

Shinon said "give it your best shot" and Ike said "okay" and killed him with a critical hit on the first try.

I love this little contest these two set up, and I also love how we never hear about the conclusion, because we all know who came out on top in that 1v1 fight. And I just love Ike's growing confidence!! He's really growing into his role. This interaction is such a contrast from that battle in chapter 4.

Ahhh!! The confrontation between Soren and Nasir!!! This scene always hurts me to read.

I know that Nasir apologizes to Ike, but I believe he also owes Soren an apology for this. Threatening to out Soren if Soren doesn't agree to look the other way? That's so cruel. Nasir, I love you, but wtf.

Fuck, I always forget how dumb Homasa looks. At first glance, it looks like he has short hair, but no, his hair is actually long in the back. Like, what is that supposed to be? A mullet? Why doesn't the hair from the top flow into the hair that goes down his neck? Why does it look like he has two separate hairstyles going on at the same time? The game wants me to be intimidated by this high-crit rate swordmaster, but then they make him look like this.

Jill and Mist's A support! I know I said I wanted the Mist and Boyd A support, and I am going to do that in RD, but I decided to go with this support in PoR. Why did I make this choice? I guess I was paranoid about Jill deserting, even though I know she doesn't unless you have her talk to her father.

Anyway, I know Mist is saying this because of her own issues regarding her recently deceased father, but man. Knowing what I know about Ashnard, this line hits different.

Why are mandolin and manicotti the two first words that come to Ike's mind? I had to google what manicotti was. Apparently it's a type of Italian pasta.

Reading this conversation, I was struck by how closely the laguz's approach to leadership aligns with Ashnard's whole philosophy about strength determining a person's worth. I wonder if this inspired or at least influenced Ashnard's worldview at some point? Perhaps it was something that he discussed with Almedha, back before their friends with benefits situationship turned sour.

The major difference, I think, is that laguz society don't expect obedience from its people. If they think the leader is worthy, then they will follow. Or so Ulki seems to imply. I wonder what happens when an unfavorable leader becomes king?

Hmmm... much to think about.

Anyway, that is part 8 over and done with. Next, I need to get the knight ring from Naesala.

I must say I've never read angst quite as cutting as yours, blood running cold, jaw hanging open, you know the type. Thanks so much for sharing your creativity and time with us!!! I really mean it.

I've read some of your previous works, but fail safe has managed to hit different, and that's very hard considering hbjimin!!!!!! and 478jk!!!! (Ik I'm echoing a popular sentiment on here, but you deserve your flowers)

I need to confess that when I first started reading fail safe I felt so taken aback by your oc's characterization, to the point I didn't even like her. But halfway through the first part, I had a big, fat epiphany and realized the only reason I felt unsympathetic towards here was because (SHOCKER!) that's my twin lowkey 😭😭 I was like oh....... so this is how it feels like to have a mirror held up to your face 😂🫵

Even though I've always grown up as a pretty responsible, independent kid who had big dreams and a sense of passion I'm currently at a point in my life where I feel very lost and confused and unsatisfied with my life. I have felt that spark of fashion almost totally dampened, and as a result I feel like (some of) the people around me kinda look down on me a little / are very worried about my near future / are very condescending about where I'm at emotionally and existentialist (basically oc and yoongi's dynamic). Making that connection.... hurt and made reading this fic so much more emotional.

This means I have a HUGE VENDETTA AGAINST FS YOONGI FOR TREATING OC LIKE SHIT AND BEING A CONDESCENDING, PEDANTIC ASSHOLE!!!!! He's borderline demonic, talking to her life that throughout her teen hood, no wonder she has such a negative self-image, in spite of working to build herself up. But the issue is that she's working from such a shaky foundation and she hasn't healed one bit 🥺 kinda feel she's self medicating through her work (like yoongi maybe but I don't care about his bum ass). She's in a very unfair position cause she doesn't have anyone in here corner in terms of like her immediate family circle (except for her mom but she can't talk about it with her cause it will break her heart knowing yoongi has always been like that to her 🥺- like seriously what is his issue???? did he flip on oc cause he has unresolved romantic feelings that he couldn't act on cause of 1. age gap and 2. Namjoon). Speaking on Namjoon, WHAT AN ASS!!!! He gave me ptsd to all the times my brothers chose to be insensitive towards me and not stick up for me.

Overall, there are so many mixed feelings. I understand her still having a complex with yoongi cause there's too many unresolved issues and hurt feelings that have been repressed for too long and that just keeps her on a cycle instead of allowing her to fully let go. So I don't judge her for it cause I've been there, done that.

I'm sooo excited for what's to come. I'm looking forward to the mysteries being revealed (my prediction for second lead is mr. kim taehyung himself), gut-wrenching lines courtesy of your lovely brain, and oc development! I'm ready to scream, cry, run around, jump off a cliff, swim in circles ❤️

Hunter (toh) rant / character study

Dude Hunter is just such a good character. Ik my entire personality is being an "anti" and "hating" him (I deny it but he is my fav I will never say this again.) but like his development is so good. So here's reasons he's a great character and some character study of his struggles cause like #relatable (/hj) but yeah

-he starts off as an asshole. He's overconfident when we first see him and he's obviously working with belos so, evil.

-we see that the people in toh view him the same way (Lilith with the posters) so she's already painted that picture of his personality for us before we as viewers see him.

-in hunting palismen we really start to see his real personality and get to know him more which makes him seem more human and relatable to viewers. Slowly though, he didn't work with Luz willingly which shows how far his loyalty went even when Kikimora wanted him dead.

-the way he interacts with belos, wanting to make him happy and never fail even if he Hunter gets hurt or hurts others along the way. His whole story with Belos manipulating him and obvious CA is realistic (well obv except for the magic parts).

-his recovery from it too! In the end of eclipse lake when he brings belos the Titan blood and hunter flinches when belos reaches his sludge, obviously that's happen before. He didn't try to block it though, only stayed and he almost looks surprised it didn't hit him?? Coincidentally it was beside his scar...

-hollow mind we see as Belos literally parades Hunter and Luz around his memories to see the worst of them. Stuff Belos knew would shatter Hunters reality to pieces and hurt Luz the most. He did that on purpose. We see Hunters truth crack and shatter in front of our eyes when he realizes what he is and Belos' true intentions. We see him fear for his life, he doesn't want to die. He was willing to sacrifice himself for Belos and the Titan but he never wanted to be killed.

-we see his struggle with making friends from being isolated form people his own age and having to mature at a younger age to be the Golden Guard.

-after realizing Belos is evil and abandoning him and leaving for Hexside, Hunter threw himself into research about grimewalkers. We know he's always done research on a bunch of stuff (ex: wild magic and mindscapes !!) so he does want to learn and expand his knowledge and just learn about what he is because we see he's confused. Also at Hexside we see his panic when the guards mentioned belos and when that guard was literally going to kill him (like omfg ????).

-once he's free from belos we literally see his fear of seeing belos again. Probably being able to process some of his past while also the fear of being killed by going back is a pretty valid reason.

-and then when kikimora spoke to him when they were all trapped at Blighr factory, genuine mf fear again. But he fought back! He saved his friends no matter what though.

-Also when he sees belos again? When belos says that stuff, hunter is so scared. But he still says "you're lying" maybe to reassure himself or to stand up for himself idk, but he still did it, he was so brave in that scene.

-AND THEN BELOS GOT FLUNG INTO THE WALL. He literally just squeaked when the collector faced him. Belos, who Hunter thought was the most powerful person was just like smacked and gone by this kid.

-on another topic the collector knows sm about Hunter and all the other grimewalkers to hypothetically Hunter could get the answers and we could get Caleb stuff by just talking to the collector.

-anyways to sum it up, Hunter speedran character development over 1 season and yet it didn't feel rushed at all. He had his moments of doubt, of hesitation as his idea of what the world was cracked before our very eyes before it was shattered. We got to see his struggle with that and even then it's not over, he still can't fathom the idea that he isn't a witch like he thought for so long. It's beautiful to see that even with the isolation he found connections with Flapjack, Gus, Willow, Luz, and probably soon more Amity too. And he protected him because he knows he can do that.

-I'm just so happy he found people now. I like genuinely hated him at first LMAO like idk that first ep annoyed me but seeing him grow through the season ?? Mans rlly forced his way into my heart.

Kay @stressedsnake you're going to listen to me rant about my blorbos, quick alert, I will go through the plot of the musical Falsettos so like, spoiler warning but also, it's worth watching even if you know what happens.

So firstly we need to establish something because I will use a lot of titles here and it's kind of confusing, here's a small explanation:

So basically it was originally a trilogy called Marvin trilogy, it consisted of In trousers, March of the falsettos and Falsettoland, the latter two got turned into Falsettos, one singular musical and then it had a revival. Ik it's confusing but so is maths and this is at least fun.

So my blorbos, to literally no one's surprise, are Marvin and Whizzer (and the lesbians kinda I'll mention them too)

So basically at the beginning of In trousers Marvin is a 14 year old uh... Very wild child. By that I mean, he most definitely has some kind of undiagnosed neurodivergency (my guess is ADHD but this is just a headcanon)

So basically he has a relationship with a kind of very annoying high school girl, while trying to force himself to crush on his teacher Mrs. Goldsberg aaand he ends up marrying another woman named Trina, which wedding he very visibly was not looking forward to. And uh, yea he's also very gay.

Oh and I forgot to mention this is all happening like 60s-70s so he really doesn't get to be openly gay, instead he hooks up with another gay man called Whizzer Brown (hey this is where blorbo #2 comes into the picture!). So Marvin makes an impulsive decision, leaves Trina and his son Jason and runs away with Whizzer, end of In trousers.

So by the beginning of March of the falsettos we find out that Marvin was like "actually screw that I'll keep my family, I'll just somehow try to force Whizzer into it I'm sure everyone will like it!" (No one liked it). So at this point Marvin is kind of an asshole but like tbh so are the other adults and they'll get better so yay.

Basically at this point Marvin and Whizzer are very different and it brings a lot of conflict and they even admit that they enjoy fighting to the point that they're really only together for sexual reasons which is kind of bad. But the main reason why they can't really agree is that while Whizzer is very openly and loudly gay, Marvin would rather stay as close to being the perfect cisgender straight jewish american as possible, so he keeps trying to force Whizzer into a feminine role. And it certainly doesn't help the situation that Whizzer refuses to stay monogamous or even admit that he'd love Marvin, who is at this point very affection starved and keen to emotional outburts (that emotion being mainly anger). So yea. Toxicisity!

The good part is, that at this point Marvin have been going to a psychiatrist for years so he does recognize that he has undiagnosed mental health issues (add BPD and depression to my headcanon mix by the way). Good job Marvin! The bad news is his psychiatrist (called Mendel) fucking sucks, and he mostly uses Marvin's sessions to talk about Trina (who he simps for) which, once again, doesn't help!!

So basically, Mendel does end up marrying Trina, Marvin breaks up with Whizzer over chess, Jason is literally just a 10 year old child and cannot cope with the situation (he's also very autistic), Marvin ends up hitting Trina in frustration and then immediately regretting it, basically end of March of the falsettos.

So how can Marvin POSSIBLY redeem himself??... He gets lesbian friend. I'm not kidding. He also only sees his son on the weekends and remains without a psychiatrist and a lover. But at least he has a lot of times to self reflect and realize that yea he probably was the problem and tries to be better. And he does become better, omygod I love act II/Falsettoland Marvin so so much. So basically he meets Whizzer again at Jason's baseball game because Whizzer loves BASEBALL and JASON and that's what he's doing there and they decide to give their relationship another go and aaaaaaaa they're so cuteeeeee!!!!!

Meanwhile Jason is about to have a bar mitzvah (they're still all jewish) but he doesn't want to have a bar mitzvah and he kinda hates his parents, but tbh he always has (but he does love Whizzer and always have loved Whizzer, possibly more than his own father!)

This is also a good time to talk about the lesbians!! They're called Charlotte and Cordelia and they're amazing! Charlotte is a doctor and Cordelia is a caterer and they've got their issues too (like Charlotte is way too focused on her job and becomes stressed if she faces failure and Cordelia struggles with her own self worth compared to how many people her girlfriend saves) but ultimately they love each other and are amazing and I love themmmmm

Back to Marvin and Whizzer. They racquetball instead of chess now which is kinda like tennis except it's not. Marvin is awful at it but plays because it makes Whizzer happy and awwwww they're so in lovee. Buttt the second time they're shown to be playing racquetball, Whizzer seems visibly weaker and worse at racquetball and falls on the ground and this is where I start to cry for the next 10 minutes. Yeah there's a reason there's a doctor in this musical-

So basically, the thing is, it's the 80s (1981 to be exact) which means that the AIDS crisis is happening and people are dying and Whizzer is one of those people unfortunately. So now you have Whizzer knowing he's on the verge of death and Marvin worried as hell, trying to cope with inevitably losing Whizzer again and also the fact that this disease is sexually transmitted and it is possible that he got it from Whizzer and will die as well. Also this is a good time to bring up Jason still angsting over not wanting a bar mitzvah (he wants it even less now)

There's also a really sweet song between Marvin, Whizzer, Charlotte and Cordelia about how hopeless the situation is but at least they've still got each other and it's called Unlikely lovers and it's so beautiful and it makes me CRY it's my favorite song

Anyways. Jason has the genius idea to have his bar mitzvah in Whizzer's hospital room, the whole family is together and relatively happy for the last time but then Whizzer dies and everything is sad again, that's the end of the musical, it makes me cry.

But anyways.

what i hate about them: ehhhh not a ton, frankly? i mean like. as a person sure a lot but as a character i really like her. she's not a good person, but i like that. if i had to pick something, i would've liked her to stay proud and angry after tigerclan, but be internally conflicted.

favourite moment/quote: her telling darkstripe she has as much use for him as a dead fox

what i would like to see more focus on: that riverclan spoiled the shit out of her. and her relationship with hawkfrost. he was her apprentice. that seems underdeveloped.

what i would like to see less focus on: uhhh hm. it's hard to express cleanly, but i kind of want her to...like, i dunno, a lot of what i read about her in tigerclan hours fails to acknowledge how much she legitimately loves and cares about riverclan, and/or forget that she had very little power in tigerclan, and/or forget that she still had agency. there's very few leopard-centric tigerclan-era fics that i like.

I've loved him since day1 and I'll love him forever he's my sweet little baby and I didn't expect to like Manon and him together but I love that I'm wrong here bcs for some reason I love him with Manon

like I said there are sooooooooo many things I LOVED and I literally inhaled this book in a day and a half and I'm still going through everything that happened and just aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

and I loveddddd the bit where Rowan goes that he doesn't have anything to offer Aelin like land or money or his title and stuff like that but when his cousins come to this aid and he goes that his is what he is offering her his Whitethorn line or something like that and my heart just melted

and Gavriel-Aedion meet!??! my heart actually broke reading it I'm pretty sure that Gavriel didn't know that he had a son when he left Aedion's mother and now he just wants to talk to his son but AEDION??!! why?!! and I get both sides but stillll and finally when Maeve comes him back but he leaves a shield in place around Aedion and even Lysandra and again my heart just aaaaaahhhhhhhh

and Evangeline???? We've seen so less of her but I'll protect her at all costs!! Ahhhhhhh that scene what they leave her with Murtaugh and Lysandra and Eva have to say good-bye like thank god we didn't get this scene from Lysandra's pov (if I'm not wrong haha can't remember this bit) and OH MY GOD WHEN AEDION KISSED EVA'S HEAD AS A GOODBYE LIKE WHYYYYY!???!! I WAS NOT READY FOR THIS

and I've to say that out of all the side characters backstories and povs, I loved Elide and Lorcan the most and the tent scene and when he washes her clothes himself and when he comes back for her when Vernon shows up and that whole tearing up his shirt so she would have her supplies and him giving her that protective golden ring (I've forgotten the name) and the whole island thing and her offering him a home in Perranth (that's the name I guess?) and him finally accepting that he wants to come with her and their kiss like sarah would you just kill me already this couple is tearing my heart and healing it at the same time

andddddd omg when I was reading how Lorcan reacted to Elide's cycle I remembered that when Aelin got hers in the beginning and Chaol was there and when he found this out and actually RAN from her room and then Dorian comes and helps her ah man I just love him

ahh no I don't want to read ToD I simply can't read about Chaol anymore and ik he had his reasons but I just can't get over how he acted and treated Aelin in QoS

and I can't tell you how fun it is to talk to someone who knows what I'm talking about so thankssssss!!! maybe I just find that courage to talk to you non-anonymously soon hehe

Dorian is so adorable; it's so rare for me to love a side character more than the main love interest but he's just, argh, perfect. Even in the first book, I always wished Celaena would choose him instead of grumpy grandpa chaol. I liked chaol well enough tho, even when he was such a little shit asking her what she did to deserve her scars and always being scared of her like he just loves a part of her; not the assassin, not the king's champion and definitely not the queen. I still liked him anyway for some reason until QoS but then he was such an asshole to her??? The girl is trying to save her kingdom from the evil king you served not that long ago. He keeps resenting her for it. And blaming the massacres of Endovier and Calculla on her too? That was so uncool. He thought she was just frolicking around faeries in wendlyn; it made me so mad, as if he knows anything about her. So I can understand not wanting to read ToD — also because I can't possibly read about fucking chaol when Aelin's in an iron coffin oh god. But please remember to read a summary or some things won't make sense! All Elorcan scenes were so cute but particularly the one where he left stripes of his shirt for her to use for her period. That was so un-Lorcan-like so I loved it. Also that other scene where he drops the shield when Elide is attacked so that someone can heal her and he says I wanted to go to Perranth with you. It broke me. Aedion and Lysandra raising Evangeline along with kids of their own would be the sweetest thing ever in the world. I wish Gavriel and Aedion had more time together. I understand his mother hiding it from Gav to protect Aedion from Meave but I can't help but resent it because that wasn't exactly Gavriel's fault; he just wants his son. I can't— 😭 and Rowan's quote:

There's no limit to what I can give to you, no time I need. Even when this world is a forgotten whisper of dust between the stars, I will still love you.

I didn't like Dorian and Sorscha; it seemed like that ship was being forced down my throat. So when Manorian started seeming like a possibility I didn't expect to like it as much as I ended up liking it! I loved and hated empire of storms' ending in equal measure for the whole whitethorn bunch turning on Meave, all their allies getting together, etc etc. And Aelin-Brannon interaction lmao this girl really be antagonizing everyone. 😂

Let's talk about Eric Effiong

Let's be honest Eric's storyline and characterization is one of the most appealing out of all the characters in Sex Education periodt. A true gay, fierce, Drag QUEEN and I feel like ranting about this amazing force of nature. (Spoilers. Duh.)

When I saw the trailer for Sex Education it didnt even hit me that Eric was gay until I read the synopsis. Was just like "Oh I wonder which one of these three mains are the gay one people keep talking about" even after I saw him in drag like a dumbass 😣😂. Personally im glad we've reached a point where gay guys aren't overly feminine and even the brightest colours won't differ a character from the rest (unless I'm just a blind bish and he was obviously gay from the trailer) ei 👏🏾 ther 👏🏾 way; his character was refreshing when I started watching the show. I immediately clicked with him and knew what every look he gave or hand gesture he did meant. Felt nice. When Adam pushed him into the locker for the first time and started with the heterohomoerotic bs I knew that Adam had a raging boner for Eric and was another internalized homophobic bully™ and wasn't really excited for what was to come but I knew it was coming and tbh I liked it in the end.

Eric and Otis' friendship is so pure. Like?!? Get me a straight supportive bestie lilke Otis? Ik they fought but even then Otis was respectful and kept his boundaries and let Eric go through the motions before immediately belting into an apology at the first chance he got. Their dancing scene?!? Iconic. The fact that Eric sees Otis' house as safe and another home?!? Iconic. Otis going drag with Eric to watch an LGBT+ movie as a TRADITION (meaning they've done it numerous times)?!?! Iconic. The fact that Otis was straight up ditching Eric and Eric STILL tolerated him and let him do his thing without too much pressure!?! The most iconic of them all. Just pure love and respect all around.

I am so proud of Erics growth over the course of the season starting from a naive and scared gay doormat to facing homophia and getting beat up by those assholes on his birthday no less to losing his best friend and becoming depressed to channeling that anger into defending himself when people tried him to getting his sparkle back and coming back more fierce that ever before.

Speaking of him getting his sparkle back lets talk about that and why that scene is so important. A random guy asked Eric for directions and Eric noticed his nails were polished and the guy was wearing earrings and he was a big ole black dude. He was like Eric. When Eric noticed that the guy was out, loud, glamorous and proud he immediately switched back into the bright colourful and wonderfully gay Eric we all know and love.

THIS IS WHY REPRESENTATION MATTERS!!!!

It shows people that its okay to be who they actually are and inspires those who are lost to find or return to their true selves. Representation isn't just some offhand thing to throw on a character last minute. And even if you can relate to other characters who arent like you, it is always an amazing feeling to have a character that IS like you. It turned Eric from a popularity seeking doormat into a hurricane with 6 inch heels who was ready to straight up beat down a bully he's had for 4 years. It even inspired him to go back to church and rejoin a community that he closed off. That's exactly how it feels to have someone successful in the media and your life to look up to. Eric only interacted with that man for a few minutes but those few minutes changed his life for the better. So that's a lovely reminder for all who love to bash representation.

Back tracking to Eric's dull colourless period after the attack and his fight with Otis. It was saddening to see one of the brightest characters go dull and even the school felt it. He turned from a guy who rarely stood up for himself and what he wanted into the sass master he reserved only for his friends. All of his built up anger was released causing him to explode on Mr Hendricks (who is adorable tbh and just trying to do his best) and Anwar (I was proud of that punch you go glenn co co) and he even sounded off on his dad who he's usually passive aggressive to at worst. Just goes to show that the happiest faces can harbor the biggest pains and can snap. Moral of the story? Protect the happy few.

Eric also has a great family. Like that obviously know Erics gay and wears dresses because its all right there in his room which his parents enter at their leisure and while it seems that they're a bit homophobic its revealed that they (Erics dad at least) just wants Eric to be safe as he's already a target for being black and apart of an immigant family. He accepts Eric for who he is and what he does he just doesnt want anyone else to give him shit for it and if that's not one of the sweetest things in this world idek what is. Eric and his dad was probably one of my favorite dynamics in the show and watching his dad slowly fully accept that his son was strong and able to stand for himself he was able to become stronger too. This dynamic is important because I never see any gay black characters have a close relationship with their fathers and it was very heartwarming to watch.

Now onto Erics love life. He has a crush on the highschools other only gay guy Anwar who's the typical mean sassy gay we've all come to expect in highschool dramas. Otis saying that Eric doesnt have to have a crush on the only other openly gay guy at school was such a mood as its commonly shown that any gays in close proximity should get together. When Eric punched him I internally went "Finally!" Because all those jeers were becoming annoying. I'm glad Anwar got to come out to his mum over it though. And straight up told the audience that Eric didn't like feminine guys (alluding to him and Adams eventual clean up scene as of we didn't see it coming already).

Moving on to Adam tho, like I said we all been knew that this

was indeed coming and even though I hate the bully x bullied trope I still ended up liking it and hoping that Adam would change. The building up to that kiss was long awaited from episode 1 straight through to 8 with all the longing looks that Adam kept side glancing Eric with and the face cupping and the growls and the lingering touches. I just kept going sthdjksksbslaldbd when one of those moments happened followed shortly after with disgust because gays falling for their abuser is washed up but then immediately going back to jajaklamabsldkd because im shipping trash so 🤷🏿. Eric stepping to Adam in at the ball was one of the most iconic scenes of the show (along with the "Its My Vagina" scene) and the exchange between him and Adam gave be actual chills. The tension was THICCCC. Erics OUTFIT to the ball gave me chills 😭😭 dude came to slay and had everyone at that school proper shook and I honestly could NOT be more proud. I was hoping Adam would become a better person over the course of the season but nope so hopefully they cover all the issues that Adam has in season 2 and properly give him a redeption arc cuz he's still a trashy pos he's just a disaster bi on top of it. (Adam immediately going to suck Eric off is confidence I can only dream of achieving 💀💀) The lab scene was also cute but made me mad because how could Adam look scared, confident and still be a douchebag all in the span of a few seconds was beyond me. A+ acting on Connor Swindells part. I can see why Adam would have to stay in the closet and keep their... relationship?? a secret because it seems like Headmaster Groff would be a homophobic piece of shit and would add to the ever growing list of things Adam did wrong. Even so it doesn't excuse the fact that Adam is in fact a bully and Eric deserves much better. Was sad seeing Adam being driven off from Eric in the end tho. Eric thought that Adam didn't want to see him at all and was probably heartbroken and probably thinks Adam left because of him (my poor baby 😭😭). I feel bad for Adam too because he was just starting to express himself and was at the beginning of a redemption arc when he was just wisked away from the boy he's loved for what seems to be a very long time. I just want my boys to be happy and non toxic and I wish their relationship and them all the best in Season 2.

Eric Effiong is my favorite character in the show and I really want to thank Ncuti Gatwa for portraying him so well and for the shows writers who gave him a very fleshed out character with an amazing storyline and conclusion. His growth was incredible and his strength is immeasurable. I'm 100% certain that he will be a character the community remembers for years to come. Patiently now waiting on what's to come in Season 2 💙🙌🏾.
