10 days ago, I decided I would get started on that linen summer dress with the swooshy skirt I've had all the materials for since last summer. So, naturally, 9 days ago, I did unspeakable things in a text editor software to reformat this free Apex Legends Nessie pattern by Jackalodreams on Deviantadt so most pieces fit on less pages. Then I printed it at 200%, taped the pieces together and... Things got a bit out of hand.

Long story short, I've got a new purse, and it made at least three separate adults who saw it smile squeal in public.

Construction notes after the break!

I think it only took me an evening or two to make, the main thing was getting all the materials. Zipper is from a duvet, all other hardware, eyes included, are 3D printed with PLA. (Pro tip: don't size up safety eye STL files unless you have a way to size up your fabric thickness accordingly.) Patches are mostly from stash, as is the lining (just some random jersey) and belly fabric (basic double gauze). Body is a fuzzy blanket I found on clearance. Tag is a piece of cotton calico with some quick and dirty hand embroidery on it.

Getting the tag, zipper and D-ring caught in the butt seam made me fear for my little Brother sewing machine, so maybe don't do what I did there. I didn't have the patience to figure out something else, and I didn't not want to put in a tag. Still, all the fabric edges are finished, every seam is locked, the patches are sewn on instead of ironed on, so this thing, when empty, should be machine washable at 30°C.

This deceptive little beastie took an entire 400g bag of polyfill to get structurally sound, even with the pouch pre-filled with way more things than I expected would fit. It's a pretty practical size inside for everyday errands. It came out extremely squishy, to the point that I could probably use it as a pillow on a long drive or train ride. The different textures of eyes, patches, tag, body and belly go together nicely.

The shoulder strap was borrowed for about an hour from my wife's purse (thank you, sweetie!) when Hermes smiled down upon us and had us catch one market stall selling fashion straps that was several hours late in packing up and closing. (Lesson learned: drinking a can of Monster before running small errands is a good thing.) Don't have pictures of the new one yet.

It's the size of a medium-large plush, so not ideal for tiny stores while wearing a thick winter coat, but otherwise it did quite well on its first outing.

Just gotta attach the zipper pull with a jump ring, as the sewed on McGyvering I've got right now isn't the most practical.

1) Delvaux for everyday wear ( fun fact they are the oldest luxury brand in the world! followed closely by Hermes and Loewe)

But I also collect 2000’s Miu Miu purses, they are much more fun and youthful than the bags they produce now!

2) this includes vintage right? so I would chose Miuccia Prada( that covers Miu Miu and Prada after she took over) all the vintage nylon pieces, Prada sport and 2000’s Miu Miu.

3) I prefer natural fibers.

4) I couldn’t choose ever? But probably something early Margiela, the show that he introduced the tabbies. He put wet paint on the bottom of the shoes to walk on a solid white runway and leave behind the split toe print on the cat walk. Iconic moment. He was a great mind.

5) Depop the most, but I use all the resale apps, and I thrift in every city/country I go to.

6) I hate jeans and always have haha. They are uncomfortable and they ruin the outfit. I recently found these capris on Depop with bleached prints on them. They are flattering and girly. Here’s a pic:

Ares told them to go look for Hermes in the casino, again indicating this was a hotspot for demigod/Greek myth activity

Lotus flowers = the story of the lotus-eaters

Crusty is Procrustes

Hermes told them where the entrance to the Underworld was. He could have warned them about Crusty or they could have guessed he was Greek myth related since he's guarding the door to the underworld

His name is Crusty and he sells beds. In the myths Procrustes also stretched and cut off people's legs to force them to fit an iron bed. Not a huge leap to make

Kronos is behind the lightning thief

Kronos has plenty of reasons to be angry with his children (as recapped by Ares). And the Olympians are always trying to tear each other apart.

Every time Percy dreams he ends up in the vast sandy expanse that leads right to the entrance to Tartarus and a voice taunts him

He and Grover almost got pulled into Tartarus, and the lightning bolt appeared in his bag right before that

In that one dream where he was eavesdropping on a conversation between who we now know to be Kronos and the lightning thief, we established that it wasn't Ares in charge, and once Percy meets Hades he realizes it's not him either. The mystery figure also mentions "the war beyond Zeus and Poseidon's war", indicating bigger goals than a little petty unrest.

What they didn't know:

The lady on the train was Echidna. They were convinced the cop who had detained them was a monster until she sat down and literally introduced herself as the mother of all monsters. Why? Because she didn't give any indication of being connected to the Greek myth world

The guy on the motorcycle offering them help was Ares. Again, there was no indication that he was Greek myth related, just some dude on the side of the road.

The lotus flowers are pumped into the air. Why? Cause that's not what happened in the myths.

You-know-who is the lightning thief

Annabeth has been training for a quest for years. She would have pored over every detail of the myths to prepare herself. And Percy has been listening to stories from his mother. They know the details from the myths and whenever the things they encounter are close to those, they know exactly what they're dealing with. But whenever aspects are changed or they don't realize the thing they've encountered is from their world, they get caught off guard. They've basically been using the myths as instruction manuals. But what I believe they'll realize throughout the seasons (starting with the betrayal next week) is that there are some things in their life the myths will not prepare them for.

When she goes out, she really adores those small girly purses, quilted and elegant from Coco Chanel, Guess or Hermes. The whole "rococo" style hides the fact that her purse in those occasions mostly contains a few makeup items, her phone, a fake ID card and a pepper spray.

When she's not attending people, Sybille likes Mickael Kors handbag, which can definitely provide more space inside. She has always preferred handbag rather than back pack anyway.

Cellphone:

She's more of a Samsung girl than Apple. From her clients, she always manages to snatch the latest items, and she's craving the last tendance. Currently, she has the new Samsung Flip. Easy to carry in her purse.

Chapstick/Lip Balm:

Various items, depending on her clothes and the mood of the night. She has a profound love for liquid lipsticks with shiny colors, the very ones made by Tom Ford, Fenty Beauty or Guerlain.

For moistering her lips, she will prefer clinical brand like Erborian (from South Korea).

Wallet:

To match her purses, she has several wallets from different brands. Her favorite is still her little black one from Chanel. She can carry enough bills if she wants to hang out, and it's far enough when she knows she won't have to pay for her drinks and food.

Umbrella:

Elegant and large umbrella (for the style) that she always picks from the same store. She doesn't know the brand, but she's sensitive to the luxurious atmosphere of the store (they are also selling shoes). She always picks the white one, with the golden border.

Jewelry:

Ouf, it's hard to pick! Sybille is particularly fond of jewels, and she's lucky enough to collect a few from her clients. Depending on whom she's attending at night, she could change her style or wear what they have offered in the past.

She particularly loves pink gold, she has several bracelets. She likes large jewels around her wrists, but will prefer small and discreet ones around her neck. Sybille never wears rings, or very rarely.

Water bottle:

She hydrates herself quite well during the day, and to be aesthetically pleasing, she often buys those glass bottles with a golden cap. She likes to add lemons and cucumbers, a good way to get vitamins after her daily work out.

Other Items:

Earphones. A mirror in her bag. A set of black gloves. A public transport card (because we never know). Gym card. Coupons from convenience stores. Business cards from her clients. A nail file along with a kit to restore nails (if she breaks one). Uber eats discount flyers. A broken watch (it was the first she got from her father). Flavored condoms. Elastic bands and clippers. Outdoor equipment like skis, on the other hand, is often viewed as functional gear. Even if very expensive, skis are viewed as essential equipment for skiing rather than just a status symbol.

Utility vs. Appearance: Luxury fashion items like purses and jewelry are valued mainly for how they look - their fancy materials, expert craftsmanship, and serving as a trendy accessory. But outdoor gear's main selling point is its usefulness and performance, not just appearance.

THE FRIDAY PIC  is (was — I’m two days late posting it!) a connect-the-dots by the brilliant Brooklyn art collective called MSCHF. It’s part of a brief they submitted last week to the Supreme Court, in support of the right of the VIP Products company to use a parody of Jack Daniel’s trademarks as a joke on its dog toys.

With the connect-the-dots I’m showing, MSCHF invited Chief Justice Thomas to try his own hand at expressing himself using someone else’s trademark; other c-t-d’s, with different images and messages, were addressed to the other justices and all the SCOTUS clerks. (A confession: I connected the dots — pretty badly! — on the Roberts sheet that I’m showing, which I guess makes me a forger. So sue me.) And MSCHF then suggested that the SCOTUS-completed images be sold, as an art commodity — meaning that that sale would be “profiting” from the trademarks of others, and I guess preventing the trademark holders from taking advantage of that same commercial opportunity.

I guess if the Supreme Court sides with Jack Daniel’s, they’d have to enjoin themselves from showing or selling their MSCHF c-t-d’s.

All this ties into the argument I made in today’s Washington Post, about the case where Hermes, the giant luxury goods company, successfully sued the tyro artist Mason Rothschild for making wacky pictures of the Hermes’s Birkin bag.

Everything I've found so far about Love Around the Block!

Love Around the Block is a new... musical experience written by Dave Malloy for the Hermès grand opening in downtown NYC. For those like me completely unaware of the fashion world, big fancy store that sells bags and likes inviting a lot of celebrities and influences to extravagant events/musicals/pr stunts.

Most of us first discovered it from this clip on instagram and this post, where Or Matias (musical director for this and other projects with Dave) writes:

"Over the last 4 months I have been working SECRETLY with @davemalloy , @mrisaacoliver , @jasoneagan , and @sarahogleby (and literally hundreds of other geniuses) to create an epic, immersive musical for @hermes . Getting to music supervise and co-orchestrate this beast has easily been one of the great joys and highlights of my career!! Last night this wonder took place in NYC, closing down parts of Madison Ave and 62nd and 63rd street. 3 buildings were activated, over 100 performers, 40 musicians, and a party until the wee hours. WOW! What an amazing ride. There’s no city like New York 💖"

And if you look up similar hashtags on tiktok you can find a handful of influencers who were invited, posting more short clips of the performances.

My thoughts? 1: clearly this isn't about the show, it's the spectacle. Do I still really want to hear the whole thing? OF COURSE. But that gets me to point 2: I doubt we ever will. It looks like it was engineered to be a one-time exclusive experience, and though influencers were encouraged to hype it up, I doubt anyone took the time to get decent recordings of the whole thing. Plus, it was an immersive experience, with each act taking place in a different section of the multi-block party, and constant crowd noise. 3: get that bread Dave! Idc if it's a bit of a sellout move, what I've heard so far slaps.

This is a very interesting question!

I don't have a particular outfit that immediately comes to mind, but I do have several outfit/fashion ideas that I would love to see her in.

Iconic Movie Outfits (particularly pink!)

"On Wednesdays, we wear pink!"

I like to watch movies and sometimes I'd look at their outfits. I definitely think she looks good in pink if you are drawing her with blue hair.

Mean Girls

The quote was from Mean Girls. Neon was first introduced in the late 90s, so it makes sense for her to be a late 90s or early 2000s teenager.

Legally Blonde

This movie gave so much pink outfits, it's so cute! Here's my favourite:

Material Girl by Madonna

Not a movie, but this pink outfit was inspired by Marilyn Monroe's pink dress in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

I think the song "Material Girl" fits Neon a lot.

Scarface

It's not pink, but Elvira reminds me a bit of Neon. She's also the wife of a mafia boss.

This teal dress may clash with her blue hair, but I think she'll look good in it if you decide to draw her with her 1999 pink hair.

1920s Fashion (The Roaring 20s)

The Great Gatsby

When it comes to visualizing Neon in another time period, I'd say the 1920s (Roaring 20s) suit her a lot. There's so much glamour in the outfits that I'd love to see her in those!

Ever since I watched the movie The Great Gatsby, I found the fashion in this time period particularly interesting. If you see my tumblr Kuraneon banner (see my profile), it is actually a scene from that movie and I commissioned an artist to draw her because I wanted to see Neon in that outfit.

I already commissioned someone to draw her in the middle outfit, but I think she'd look great on the other two.

I think the flapper dresses were particularly interesting. And also the feathered headpiece.

You know how Neon sometimes would wear hair up with a clothed hairband? I think the 1920s headpiece can replace the hairband that she normally wears.

Denim dungaree dress

Denim dungaree dress seem quite common in my country too.

Black Dress with Gold Chains

I was shopping once at a store and found a black dress with chains. I like Kurapika and it reminded me of his chains so that caught my eye. Then I found a satin dress with gold chain pearl straps and I bought it. 

I don’t really know if you like Kurapika and Neon together, but the idea of Neon wearing a black dress with gold chains is somewhat appealing to me. This dress in particular is what I’d like to see her in (minus the headpiece). 

This dress is Chanel worn by Lily Rose in the Met Gala. It was inspired by one of the outfits worn in Sailor Moon.

Accessories: Questionable and High-end Fashion

High- End Designer bags

This one is less of outfits and more of the accessories she wear. Since she likes shopping, I think she's the type of girl that would wear designer handbags and accessories.

Brands could something be like Prada, Kate Spade, Louis Vuitton, Hermes etc. Not sure if we can draw branded goods though due to copyright or something... Perhaps a fictional spin-off? Sometimes I will make up a fictional designer brand in my fanfics.

Taxidermised jewellery

While writing Neon, I came across a taxidermy shop. The taxidermy shop sells taxidermised butterfly and cat bones earrings/necklaces (of course, within legal boundaries). If I remember correctly, they only source animals that are already dead (they cannot kill animals for the sake of taxidermising them).

This is an example of necklaces made from dead butterflies. There is also a canine bones earring here.

Since her hobby is collecting dead body parts, I think she'll like having to wear accessories that are made from dead animals or human parts.

This was already done in the HxH mobage cards where Neon is seen wearing the Scarlet Eye as a hair tie. See the pic here.

There was actually a drawing I saw once of her wearing the Scarlet Eye as a choker. I think for this one you can go really creative. I'm thinking of a combination of the 1920s headpiece with the Scarlet Eyes.

Questionable Fashion

I always believed Neon is the personification of the wealthy and materialistic people's lack of empathy towards dead people. It didn't matter to Neon how her dead body parts collection was obtained, she only wants to have them.

I've always thought about a celebrity AU where Neon is criticised for being wasteful and unsympathetic because she likes to buy multiple mink fur coats.

That’s all I have for the question. I’m not 100% into fashion but I do appreciate outfits, particularly in pop culture and a bit history. I also love utilizing fashion to represent her personality and odd hobby.
