I’m SO happy that Acton is getting better and better with its burger offerings. The Elizabeth line and new housing developments have brought an influx of new businesses to the area which will get it competing with some of the best zone 2 areas. @nodrama.w3 are a few minutes away from East Acton station, next to the new Western Circus development. A coffee & lunch spot by day, and a burger joint every Friday and Saturday evening. They’ve got @hgwalter meat and they know what to do with it. It’s hand pressed and cooked with a crust, then planted in between @socialbymax buns, a local chef who recently started supplying to local businesses. I thought the burger was great, and their weekly specials will keep things fresh and persuading me to visit every week. They do chicken burgers too, and their loaded fries were delicious. They do also do the burgers in the day time, and some more breakfast-friendly burger options. I went double, and I do actually recommend it for this burger. It’s full of cheese and truffle so the extra helping of meat balances it out a bit. 𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙙 🍔 I was out of my depth with this one 😅. @foxdenrestaurant serving up a monster double bacon cheese. 2 thicc @hgwalter patties, Foxden house burger sauce, cheese, and treacle bacon. That sweet edge to the bacon really helps cut the meatiness of the burger. I can’t remember the last time I had to eat a burger with a knife and fork 😂. Foxden in is the place you want to go for a burger when in Fulham, but I think their sides are equally as good. 𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙙 🍔 It’s match day at Stamford Bridge and I don’t see people queueing for the pub, they were all waiting in line for @foxdenrestaurant. Luckily I beat the crowd and got in there early, and I can see why they pull a crowd. Not just the burgers but the whole menu here is amazing. With meats from west London’s @hgwalter you already know that you’re in safe hands. This is The Foxden. Their own blend of dry aged beef patty, pulled beef, truffle cheese sauce, rocket, caramelised onions. There’s a reason why this is their best seller, you get all the elements within 1 bun. That truffle cheese sauce is almost fondue-like with that rich truffley taste, but then the peppery’ness of the rocket cuts through, then you get a sweet element from the caramelised onion, topped off with the juicy goodness of the beef. The great thing is everything balances perfectly, nothing is overpowering. Big up Paul, he knows exactly what he’s doing, which is why the sides are as good as the burgers. I’ve lived in west London for 8 years and recently moved back to Acton for the 3rd time, and it’s clear to see that it’s reaching the heights of its neighbours White City & Ealing. With loads of property development, plus the Elizabeth line, the quality of restaurants are going up too. @socialbymax controls the kitchen at @therocketacton and the food here is SO GOOD. All week you can find small plates, such as the most delicate roasted octopus you’ll eat, creamy burrata with Parma ham and peach, and grilled prawns on bread. Thursday Friday and Saturday you’ll find his burgers. There’s no patties here, but what you do get is delicious pulled pork or beef brisket from @hgwalter, along with homemade coleslaw, bbq sauce, and burger sauce. There’s a veggie option available too, which is Halloumi and aubergine with a red onion balsamic vinegar and chilli jam. You also have Fish Friday, Sunday Feast (a classic beef roast plus a twist on other traditional Sunday dishes), and T-Bone Wednesday, which I will be booking in ASAP. @therocketacton is a pub, so you’ve got wines, beers, cocktails, and more. It’s also a beautifully decorated pub with a really nice outside terrace area. 𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙙 🍔 I’m a big fan of the B Fun Korean Burger from @bunz_burgerbar. Crispy fried @hgwalter chicken thigh, sticky Korean glaze, pickles, cucumber, coriander & mayo. I am a bit out of their delivery radius, but even so it travelled really well and was just like receiving it straight off the grill. The Korean glaze was so nice, and it’s got that moreish saltiness to it which is perfectly balanced out by the mayo. If you’re in the Waterloo deliveroo radius then definitely give them a try! 𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙙 🍔 On the weekend I tried out @bunz_burgerbar, a new @deliveroo and take away burger outlet from Waterloo. Using @hgwalter for all their meat, @paulrhodesbakery for their buns, they’ve definitely got the first bit right by getting quality products in. There’s 2 beef burgers on the menu, a classic and a Smokey bbq, this is the latter. I thought it was pretty good! Now full disclosure, I am slightly out of their delivery range so the food did travel a bit longer and further than me, so I had to warm it up in the oven for a couple of minutes, so obviously I cooked the beef a bit more than if I got it straight from the restaurant, but even so I thought it was good! I’d be really intrigued to try it straight from the restaurant now cos it’s bound to be even better. Both beef options can be substituted for @movingmountainsfoods patties, and I’m intrigued in the honey mustard mayo with the classic, I’ve got to try that one next. 𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙙 🍔 Last week I went down to @thecoachleyton to check out @craftyburgers.london and left pleasantly surprised. I don’t really like using the word surprised tbh, but burgers can be so hit and miss. You either understand about cuts, grinds, blends, ageing, and suppliers, or you don’t and you just order wholesale. Luckily they know exactly what they’re doing and have called upon @hgwalter, who supply meat for many of London’s burgers, to create their own unique blend. The burgers are good, and I think they’re only going to get better. To bring them in line with the next tier up I’d make small changes like ditch the salad, keep it simple with beef, cheese and sauce, maybe some onions, and smash that beef a bit more to get a crust around it. For me, it was the chicken burgers that shined through. Chicken thigh with a light and crispy batter, the buffalo chicken burger had a very nice sauce, and even the Crafty Chicken, which was your classic buttermilk chicken burger with mayo, was probably my favourite. It’s not just burgers here though, their other dishes and sides really left me wanting more. The bolognese fries were amazing, the fat chips were beautiful, cut so thick but so soft inside, plus wings that come 3 ways, with my favourite being gochujang. @thecoachleyton is a really cute pub with a great outside area, and they have some really good food from @craftyburgers.london to go with it. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 | For more than a year I’ve been looking out to see what would be going in the arches under Wood Lane station, and the first one to open their doors is @prairiefirebbq. Traditional authentic bbq food is always heavily sought after in London, and I don’t think you get more authentic than its owner, Mike, who comes from Kansas City. I’m a big fan, and I’m so happy I got a second chance to try his food. The first time was last year at the relaunch of London Fields brewery at the relaunch party, but it was sliders so it’s hard to get the full picture. But believe me, I made up for it this time trying a wide range of dishes. Firstly, there’s hot dogs on the menu, and this is always a fast track to my heart. The dog is made from beef and is SO nice. There’s a chilli dog available but I always go classic with a hot dog. The burger was good too, 40 day dry aged blend of rib cap, Chuck, and brisket from @hgwalter, who are one of the most widely used butchers for burger patties in London. The meat sampler gives you brisket, pulled pork, and sausage in one tin, and that brisket is to DIE FOR. I wish I had got a brisket bun 😩. I was a big fan of the chicken sandwich too. The chicken itself was nicely smoked, and wasn’t your usual overly deep fried fillet. I can’t really think of any other bbq places in west London, so this should be the obvious choice, and I’d aim to go here anyway if you want bbq food. Plus the other half of the restaurant is their own taproom!
