More character designs for Distilling Destiny! This time, they are side characters (the Masked Merchants!) You can find the lineup of main characters here!

First off! Design notes!

I feel like it's pretty obvious which skeletons these 3 are meant to parallel LMAO.

The overall designs are inspired by some of the NPC Merchants my cowriter and I discussed while planning out the fic (Beedle from LoZ, and Zacharie from OFF)

Zacharie was the inspiration for giving them masks, and Beedle is why the Knight-Shopkeep has his big backpack as well as why the masks have horns! (... Like a horned stag beetle? It's a stretch but shhh)

The Cart Merchant's cart is intended to look kind of like Sans' sentry station!

I was debating whether the cart would have parts that could fold out/be stuck in the ground to extend it, but then I thought... if he had them, he'd be too lazy to set them up anyway.

This way he can just ride around in it and not have to worry about lugging his stuff around like the others.

The Knight-Shopkeep's got two feathers in his hat like the Bard does ;]

I was going to give the Knight-Shopkeep a big hammer, but a sword looked cooler with the pose LMAO

The Knight-Shopkeep also has another horn hidden under his hat!

He sells potions and cooking ingredients! (In the fic, Blue is studying health + culinary science...)

The Shady Merchant has a golden horn instead of a gold tooth

The fur around the Shady Merchant's shoulder is a reference to what he trades, but it's also supposed to represent Red's fluffy jacket.

I gave him a sack because I thought it was funny. I almost made him the type to open up his jacket and try to sell you watches or something, but it didn't really work out, and this design fits a lot better.

That sigil is meant to be his own personal "signature", made up of aspects of his mask, as well as his kingdom, but The Cart Merchant is lazy and uses shorthand. The proper symbol would be something like an actual ❤️ shape. In universe, the larger heart shape made up by both parts is purely a coincidence. The G on the other banner is just a currency sign (like $, €, ¥, £).

AND NOW...

Here's some MORE lore tidbits that (probably) won't get mentioned in the fic, because they are just weird worldbuilding things that I've thought of but aren't really relevant in any of the discussions!!:

The Cart Merchant will try to scam you probably. (5G? i meant 50G.)

The furs and pelts the Shady Merchant procures are incredibly high quality- but he almost exclusively trades for other material supplies or information instead of gold.

I actually started trying to figure out a numeric system for this world, and it was at that point I realised I was getting lost in the sauce and thinking too much about worldbuilding.

HOWEVER, SAYING THAT... I was thinking that an upturned heart (spade) would be the symbol for 1, the v/shorthand heart shape would also double (haha) as the sign for 2. The clover (club) would be 3 and the diamond would be 4.

THAT came about because I was thinking about there being a myth/fable about the 4 (main) kingdoms having been created in that order (spade, heart, club, diamond).

The merchant masks are kind of like clown faces, in the way that there is a record of every single mask to make sure that there are no two that are the same. (Two masks may have the same horns, but different markings, and vice versa.)

The number of horns on a mask depends on which kingdom they come from. Sometimes prongs are also used instead of separate horns. (e.g. a merchant from the "Diamond"/Fourth kingdom may have 4 seperate horns, or 2 horns with 2 points each.)

Markings vary, but generally they too will be themed around the kingdom they hail from.

This is part of why the Shady Merchant is so shady- he has no marking/s, and his horns are... well, he claims to be from the second kingdom.

My dragon AU design for Hornet. I just love it so much that i'm probably going to re-use this eventually for an original project if it'll fit in it.

My married husband ocs, Trotter and Cygnus, lovin' on eachother. (Cygnus is a black hole and he's floating. Trotter has no concept of personal space)

I need to draw them more. Little Chip made them in highschool and was so valid.

This was for my hollow knight space AU I had with Paya. We had a FUCK TON of good ideas adapting the lore to a futuristic setting. I just didnt have enough energy to flesh them out in art.

But space Quirrel genuinely makes me happy every time I see him. It's just a very good design.

Originally it started out from how I'd really liked both Leons, then it became a "haha make them kiss" kind of thing-- and now I have brainrot for them. I'd always seen RE2xRE4/RE4RxOG4 all the time yet never anything for the older Leons... and I decided I WILL be that mf hehe. The RE6 Leon II use in my works is my own Plaga Leon so I have fanonized him a fair bit (and projected on him somewhat.. lol) I have only just something really basic for how it works/they meet, he just kinda gets thrown in there through universe shenanigans after getting caught in an explosion. He is very badly hurt when DI found him... they do fight hand to hand in the dark and RE6 gets overpowered since he's really too weak to fight back (DI is also pretty strong imo). They arent trying to kill each other nd DI realizes that: "hey this person just wants to get away from me... I shouldn't actually hurt them!" Then, its just a major oh shit moment that just goes on from there. RE6 frantically (hysterically) trying to escape and he's so scared :( It takes some coaxing to get him to cooperate despite being hurt. He doesn't understand what's going on and is so stressed out. DI and him bond a little here through some humor... well attempts at it. I love the idea of DI just being a big ol lovable guy who's super sweet and tries to help no matter what. Same with RE6 though shyer about it :3c I'm kind of working on DI/VD/RE6 shit in my head still.. I haven't decided how thats going to quite work yet... haha its alot I could do though. ALSO FDKJFKFDJLFD im so excited to keep working in blender... im learning alot and hope to make more stuff sometimes soon.. its just really time consuming at most. anyways! that's pretty much what it is when it comes to college and frankly? i just wanna get it over with like literally the only highlight to it is seeing my friends and spending time with my boyfriend 😭 but!! a social science major sounds cool! i'd say you have some pretty good goals set in mind and you can always take up a minor if you want to pursue the others :> (i did consider having music as a minor) and sure! the courses depend on what you pick really and the college/professor, online is just about the same as in-person if you have a lot of reading on a pc to do tbh. english classes are well. kind of like the ones in high school but college-leveled. just make sure you give yourself enough time to do assignments bc they can be painful :"D

hey! I am by no means an expert, just a guy who fiddles around a lot, but I can totally tell you about what my experience has been.

while I love my neapolitan, especially as a History Person, I honestly don’t think there’s a specific benefit to using one unless you’re specifically intending to do more classical repertoire. in my experience the tone is somewhat different but the most significant distinction is that either an F or an A style flatback is way louder, which, given that I do mostly folk rep in groups, has been a huge advantage. these days I use my A style instrument more than the neapolitan, which I admit is partially because I think it’s just a better quality instrument with nicer tone/tuning/clarity of sound, but it’s also just a lot more versatile and easier for my fellow musicians to hear. I do think there is an advantage to starting on a flatback if this is your first time playing if only in the sense that they’re easier to hold and the neck is wider, and they’re just a lot more versatile (also neapoltian CASES are almost harder to find than the actual instruments are… I literally use a soft bari uke case for it because I don’t have a proper one). obviously I’m biased based on the quality of my individual instruments, since I think my A style is just objectively a better constructed instrument, but I prefer to use the A style when I’m playing, and especially performing, in groups, and usually save the neapolitan for historical reenactments and places where I prioritize period accuracy over a really clear/loud sound.

as for A vs F style I honestly can’t speak way too much about them… I will say I am fortunate enough to have had access to multiple instruments, and when I was choosing based purely on sound I picked the A style instrument that I currently use over a similar quality F style, but that very well could have just been a result of the quality of the individual instruments—I haven’t had a ton of general experience actually playing on either style in specific. it seems like a lot of bluegrass people seem to prefer the F style, and certainly it visually looks more bluegrassy, but I honestly don’t think there’s going to be a huge difference in sound. an A style instrument might be a little more affordable and sound nearly identical, but again people always seem to associate F style with bluegrass so maybe there is a tone difference or something that I don’t know about.

it’s hard to say which would be more similar to a neapolitan just because they’re both pretty similar to each other, but I’ve been personally very happy playing on an A style as someone who started on a neapolitan. however I do play 90% folk repertoire and not classical or bluegrass, as mentioned, and on top of that I do mostly rhythm. I’m not a professional by any means but any solo stuff I play still has a very clear and pleasing sound and I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be a very fine solo instrument. I’m not sure what kind of repertoire you’re interested in but I think either style would still be usable in any context that isn’t, like, a professional classical setting. I dunno, sorry that this doesn’t really give you an answer per se, but I hope that gives you some insight as like… a neapolitan to A style convert lol.

disclaimer: i intend on finishing these fics so what im going to be talking about is inspirations and unfinished / abandoned ideas and other ideas i have for the works instead of anything relating to the plots themselves

for svadd, sj is a lot more complicated than he appears to be on the surface. im not so sure if what i have written currently is what i /want/ exactly because i know i want his character to go a certain way. the relationships between him and his modern-day friends is one meant to parallel the in-game "shen qingqiu" sj compares himself to and in much the same way, mirror the way that sy contrasts himself with sqq in canon: but instead of being condescending and viewing sqq as a one dimensional character, sj is able to appreciate his nuance while still being rightfully angry over his actions

to me, sj is supposed to be an unreliable narrator who constantly enforces his own thoughts. he tells himself over and over that he misses his home and that he wants to go back, that he absolutely needs to- but then, he turns the other way and finds himself being sucked even deeper into this different one.

i also really wanted to explore how sjs dynamic with a lot of the characters would be affected knowing that they were "based off" his real friends, but again im not very confident with how it came off lol

there was a lot of points in the story where i attempted to add in foreshadowing for the ending i want the story to take... in any case, it definitely wont go the same way as vadd, though i did toy with the idea of a "version" of sy being the main villain haha

(it might still happen for shits and giggles)

as for the roxanna au there are a lot of things ive wanted to do with this au and its good that i havent posted because it means i can keep revising til i come up with something good lol

its a liujiu au with some bingyuan / cumplane thrown into the mix (the cumplane is overwhelmingly toxic btw bingyuan is the healthy one out of the two here 😭) where yes sj is xana !!! he really just makes such a good manhwa villainess haha

i had been puzzling over what i wanted his motif to be-- after all, sj is typically associated with the simplicity and calming bamboo so the glittering butterflies wouldnt work with him- but after some deliberation i decided with using moths for him :3c still subject to change ofc but i think im happy with this as is

the story is somewhat similar to how roxanna goes but surprise sj isnt the transmigrator here! (and honestly, roxanna wouldve been sm better if xana hadnt been a transmigrator... or maybe i just think that because it was only used as a convenient plot point for her to know crucial info. sigh.)

my outline of how the roxanna au goes is basically this:

lqg fucks around and finds out

sj who has been seeing dreams of the "book" sy read knows what will happen to his family if lqg dies

etc

at the same time: sy, transmigrator, attempts to make sure his only surviving older brother lives to a long happy life and the only way he can secure this is by fucking up that hack author

also i killed off qi-ge and idk if i want him to come back. he'll be like the stereotypical dead anime mother for this au lmao

First impression

Okay, my VERY /FIRST/ impression of leo was very. Not accurate to who he actually is at all BECAUSE all i knew when i learned about leo is that something bad happened to him ("because of eichi" i quote, thats what i read, i know it wasnt totally eichis fault, i know)

So i kind of. Ended up having an idea of How leo is Before Even Correctly Meeting Him

And how i thought he was? Absolutely not like he actually was! I thought he would be more...calm? in a cool way? and more mysterious

Actually, it helped a lot that shortly before, i knew of another leo who was kinda like that

But anyway, later on, i ACTUALLY met leo in !! Era main story and would the masses believe me my very first thought upon meeting him was "oh he's actually a weirdo"

...hits past me with the metal pipe You Fool. You Absolute Fool. Oh You Did Not Know What Was Coming For You Next At ALL

But its oki! Because with time i actually started appreciating leo more, thinking he was funny! Then it came...

(know that at the time i only knew leos bad past as "eichi did something bad to him")

...the moment i wanted to learn more about leo.

My downfall.

At first, i planned to read rebellion, but at the beginning of it i realized it was basically the knights story who got adapted in the anime, so i just decided to skip that and...

Anyway, while reading checkmate, it made me appreciate leo, sena, izuleo (heck i didnt even know about them until checkmate), and knights more, until...

Until the angst hit me.

Checkmate inflicted me so much emotional damage it changed my brain chemistry forever and ever and here i am now 👍

I think in this order it wasss rebellion (yes ended up reading it anyway, newfound knights obsession was too strong) -> horror night halloween -> requiem -> a dark night's passing (df debut, ik! But theres some leo in it!!) -> next door

(also read setsubun festival in between all that, fun! /s)

And then slowly but surely...i became the insane & crazy leo & izuleo obsessed knightsP i am today

...how even am i supposed to express in words how much he means to me? He's my sunshine, my light, my sun, my star, my world, my universe, my galaxy, my everything...is this going too far? But he genuinely means everything to me

Surprisingly i dont think this part will be long, because i genuinely struggle putting in words what i feel about him, because its So much. What i said above resumes it pretty well honestly? He's my everything, literally. He lives rent free in my head, and he WONT GET OUT!!! I cannot stop thinking about him, i have so many thoughts about this little dude, that often i end up rambling, and i very often keep bringing him up everywhere even if its unrelated, i think you can all confirm! I get excited and happy about literally anything about him, like when he's brought up, and all and all. His silly and funny moments never fail to make me smile, to make me laugh, and would it be a bit cheesy of me to say i genuinely find him handsome...?

He's such a comfort character to me, too. I actually look up to/admire him a lot...because i relate a LOT with his depression. Which just makes his story of healing even more beautiful to me...and it gives me hope, that maybe one day, i would be able to fully heal too

Idea for a story

Haha...since im a huuge leo yume, you are alll gonna get attacked with that one leo x reader fic idea i have~~ (that ill never write)

Basically, when leo went depressive, he did not only lock himself away in his room, but also ended up running away...to either the other end of his town, or another nearby town, just somewhere far enough but not too much as to be impossible (a place possible to go by bus, tram, or train...)

As he ended up roaming aimlessly in the streets, it started raining, but he didnt feel like sheltering himself (where could he go anyway?), so he just sat down under a tree and...well...had a breakdown

Meanwhile, we have our dear mc, who's around leos age but already live alone in an apartment due to shitty parents...i actually made up a whole backstory for them, and they definitely didnt have the best childhood...but it has purpose to the storys meaning, promise!!

Anyway, at that time, mc was ofc outside, heading back home after buying some groceries, when they see leo...the general idea of their personality is that theyre not the most sociable person, but still had a good heart (all ties back to their backstory), so after biiit of hesitating, they went to see how leo was doing

Obviously, bad, he was even biting his hand yet again...and mc, seeing that, well was ofc /very/ concerned. They asked a bit about leo, what he was doing there outside the rain, and that he should go home unless he got sick, but leo didnt really feel like replying...

So mc decided to take leo home with them, and take care of him a bit, because thats what someone else who was close to the mc (that they admired, too) would've done <3

They made leo a nice warm bath, and some nice warm chocolate, and gave leo some temporary new clothes from their dad (that were probably a bit too big) while his own were drying, and all and all~ mc is actually very caring beside being mostly a loner

Mc and leo ended up talking a bit, though leo still not saying much, and it was decided leo would stay in for the night since it was getting late, and his home was too far away

Except...leo ends up staying longer than expected...because he absolutely /didnt/ wanna go home just yet...

And thus, start a story about two broken young people who learn to love once again together...a story of healing...thats what i want it to be :3c

I didnt put all the details, or else it would be too much, but thats pretty much the gist of it! I would love to actually write something about, but dont have a good enough plot, eueueue....

...can you tell i just wish that i couldve been there when leo needed someone the most?

By Something i meant he was actually an ass. A little bitch. An asshole. But it was because he just came back to yumenosaki!! He just got out of his trauma, and was still hurting from it!! But i feel like most people tend to forget, or not even know about that side of leo, because we now see the more wholesome side of him since he fully healed now??

But he wasn't always just a ray of sunshine. Heck, in war era, yes he was definitely a victim, but why? Because the other students ended up hating him. Why? Because knights would always crush their opponents in dreamfes. Why? Because, yes, leo is definitely naturally talented, a genius, of course he would easily win, but he was also crushing those people on Purpose. He /was/ being Aggressive /on purpose/ in war era, because he was fighting for senas dreams
