Fachada principal del Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, Hospital de la Santa Cruz y San Pablo, en castellano, aunque es más conocido como el Hospital de San Pablo. Este imponente edificio, obra del arquitecto catalán Lluís Domènech i Montanero, fue construido en dos fases: la primera de ellas dirigida por el propio arquitecto, entre 1902 y 1913, y la segunda dirigido por su hijo Pere Domènech i Roura, también arquitecto. Son en total 19 edificios, muchos de ellos edificados gracias al mecenazgo del banquero Pau Gil, cuyo conjunto constituye hoy una de las obras más representativas del Modernismo, a tal punto, que en 1997 fue declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco. Su fachada, de piedra y ladrillo, y concebida ocmo6un retablo, se caracteriza por infinidad de elementos, propios del modernismo, como esculturas, murales, ventanales y vidrieras, destacando el edificio central, alto y estilizado con reflejos dorados y vidrieras. ... Hospital de Sant Pau

モデルニスモ建築のこの病院は、1997年に、カタルーニャ音楽堂とともにユネスコの世界遺産に登録され、2009年まで診療がおこなわれていたそうです。

設計したのは建築家リュイス・ドメネク・イ・ムンタネーで、彼がバルセロナ建築学校の教授を勤めていた時の教え子にアントニ・ガウディがいたそうです。

非常に広い病院で、外観は教会とその隣接公園と行った趣きです。

内部の写真をいくつか紹介します。かつて使用されていた医療器具等が美術品と同じようなセンスで展示してあります。

次は、手術棟へ向かう地下通路です。雰囲気としてはどちらかといえば霊安室（失礼）ですが、個人的にはこの荘厳な感じは好きです。

最後は管理事務分館（多分）の天井、壁面、およびステンドグラスです。このような装飾が全ての建物に施されているのです。スペイン恐るべし。

Yesterday we went on an incredible tour of the Hospital de Sant Pau after La Sagrada Familia! We learned from a very passionate tour guide about the intricacies of the establishment and of its significance as one of the first modern hospitals which utilized hygienics. It was designed by Gaudi’s teacher in 1902 and has recently been restored to mint condition.

He knew that inside, countless lives were hanging by a thread, and that for some, his intervention would be their only salvation. For others, he knew that there was no hope for rejuvenation. But no matter. For a few of these mortals, there were more glorious outcomes than hope and rejuvenation, while for the rest, there were more gruesome endings than sickness and death. • He healed them. It was his nature, it was in his very name: Raphael, “God heals.” And God did, through his holy hands. The pavilion inside was named after him, and he had brought countless people back from the brink of the abyss. It was not yet their time. Their purposes remained unresolved. • They did not see him.
