Seeing people saying that Satoru doesn't actually care about Suguru and that the only reason Kenjaku caught him was bc he was surprised to see a person he killed alive is fucking wild, man

Like. Gojo's entire life revolves around Geto. The entire series happens because he loved Suguru too much to kill him, even though he knew he would have to do it eventually. The world literally went to shit because he wasn't over him

Geto Suguru's life would be completely unimportant to the story without Gojo Satoru, and Gojo Satoru's would be completely unimportant without Geto Suguru. They complement each other. They need each other

Two male betta fishes can't coexist. They will fight and one will die. They can't see each other — even if they're in different tanks, they won't be able to live. They'd eventually tire each other out, resulting in death. The only way for Satoru and Suguru's lives to be able to continue without the other would've been for them to never have met at all. And they can't be together. Not now, not ever again. Not while they're still alive. Not after everything that's happened

The entire story revolves around their relationship. Yuuji is a boy who ate a curse('s finger[s]), and Megumi is the prodigy who befriends him. Satoru is a prodigy, the strongest, and Suguru, the boy whose technique is eating curses, befriends him. The Jujutsu Kaisen story is all about parallels and they all connect to fucking Satosugu. It's all about them

The only reason Kenjaku's plan worked is because the body he used didn't belong to some random person Gojo killed, it worked because the body he used was Geto Suguru's, Gojo's one and only, his best friend. He must be thinking “Thank god they're gay” right now lmao

Gojo fucking hesitated. He hesitated multiple times when it came to Geto. He was supposed to kill him, yet he let him go. He has the Six Eyes, he could've easily tracked him down. He probably could tell if he was nearby (he can recognize Suguru from his scent) and just didn't go looking for him. And he could've so very easily escaped the trap that was set up for him, he was going to run away from it because we see him about to take that step but then Suguru's body shows up and says “Yo, Satoru!” with Suguru's voice and Satoru freezes and hesitates

They weren't able to let go of each other even after years of being separated (like a decade). When they meet, Suguru still greets Satoru warmly

Suguru is pretty much Satoru's moral code. He was the only person Satoru took at least mildly seriously pre-Toji (and we know Satoru just didn't do serious back then). He actually took his words to heart. He was kind, of course (especially from Suguru's PoV, since he's the person that knows him most), and not a bad person, but he wasn't nice. Suguru was always the ‘nice(r) one’, the one who actually had a moral code, while Satoru was more of an asshole to literally everyone and everything (some more, some less), thinking he and Suguru were above everyone else

When Suguru finally snaps (which, honestly. Fair) and goes genocidal (not so fair), Satoru slowly starts to be somewhat nicer and starts applying Suguru's old moral code to his own being — their roles weren't exactly reversed, but now they're not together anymore, so they might as well be. And Suguru was shown for having faith in the school and its system while it was Satoru the one who absolutely abhorred the higher-ups and all kinds of authority, but then it ended up with Suguru being the one to leave and become a cult leader with the blood of hundreds on his hands while Satoru was the one that stayed behind in the same place of the people he despises so much

(Imagine someone saying something like “Sometimes I doubt you even have a moral code” and Gojo answers with “Oh, my best friend my one and only is pretty much my moral code. He went homicidal a while back but it's okay haha” “...Actually, that explains a few things”)

Gojo doesn't have a god complex, but I wouldn't blame him if he did. I mean, he might as well be the closest thing to god human beings have ever seen. He used to put himself above everyone else, when he was a teenager. He thought that, the higher he was, the more he could do. And no one was better than him. But not Suguru. Back then, it wasn't “I'm the strongest” it was “We're the strongest and “We're the best” and “We're the ones that will beat you” and “We're the duo” and it was all about “us, us, us, us, us” instead of “me, me, me, me” like people thought it was — they were a pair. They still are

We know people thought and still think of Gojo as a weapon. As something that must be controlled, because on the moment he decides he doesn't want to be around them anymore, he could just straight up kill then without any effort (but getting rid of people in positions of power only gets other people in positions of power and it'll be a neverending story, and Gojo knows this so he's trying to do his best to fix it all through the younger generation, by letting them live). And we also know that Suguru is one of the very few people who did not believe that at all

Like their personalities and characters and stories and literally everything, their names complement each other. Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru are such similar names, I get them mixed up all the time (the amount of times I've called them “Gojo Suguru” and “Geto Satoru” is embarassing. Also, “Saturu”. “Goto”. “Gejo”. Ugh). Both of their last names start with a G, end with an O and have 4 letters. Both of their given names start with an S, end with an U and have 6 letters. They complement each other. They need each other

The only times we've seen Gojo with an expression of actual pure, raw emotion is when it's about Geto. When he finds out about what Geto did, when he realizes how thin and wrong Geto looks, when he sees him again for what we assume to be the first time in years, when he dies, when a thing wearing his corpse and using his voice greets him (“Yo, Satoru!” oh my god)

Suguru was able to fight back when in Kenjaku's control after Satoru said his name. Kenjaku himself says that had never happened before

And you don't even have to see them as romantic. You don't have to ship them if you don't want to. But you can't deny that they care about each other more than they will ever care about anyone else

He's been stressing about a mission lately and it was finally getting to him

He was on his knees on the floor, struggling to breathe and eyes darting around frantically

You fell on your knees before him, but still far enough so you wouldn't touch him

You knew Toby needed his space when he was in the middle of a panic attack, so you always let him get close when he wanted

Instead you made sure he looked at you in the eyes and focused on your composed movements

"Relajarse (10)" you said as calmly as you could

"Respirar (11)" you continued and inhaled deeply before exhaling, making sure Toby could follow your actions

Soon enough he was breathing normally again and moved to hug you

You reciprocated the hug while carding your fingers through his hair

The time you spend hugging gave Toby enough time to replay your words in his head

"What language was that?" he asked softly after some time

"Spanish" you replied and you could practically see him pouting before he continued with the question you anticipated

"You never told me you could speak Spanish" he said with a slight whine

"You never asked" you said with a chuckle

He moved his head from your shoulder to look at you, pout wiped from his face, an eager smile replacing it

Do you have any tips on writing angst? I want my writing to contain more of it, but I think I might be missing something?

Oh wow, what a question. This took some time because I really had to get my thoughts planned out. I'm going to try to tackle this, but keep in mind what works for me might not work for everyone. This will be long. I'm sorry if you don't want to read a long, drawn out post. Here it comes.😬 (This took a little over an hour to put together mainly cause I write too much. Smh🤦🏽‍♀️)

That being said, my background in psychology helps a lot when writing angst and characters in general. I like to think of it as my secret weapon. Lol. 😁

However, I like to think of angst as slowing it down, stretching it out, and digging deeper into details, feelings, thoughts, and emotions. It helps to have a significant understanding of how human emotions work and how it connects to the body's reaction to and display of it.

For instance, you're about to confess your love to your BFF. Typically emotions include anxiousness and nervousness (fidgeting, inability to make eye contact, rapidly beating heart, dry mouth, etc.), fear (mirrors above but add racing thoughts, physical shaking, etc.).

Now go back and stretch those feelings out in detail. Describe that anxiousness as it relates to something, talk about what is being fidgeted with, mention things the eyes land on when not making eye contact, etc.

Also, make the character's situation believable. For me, a big part of my writing, unless specified, is reality and grasping close to it. I don't over stylize and create insane situations that could never in a million years happen. Think about "Rumor Has It," this tangled web of Ana, Chris, Uriah, and Christiano. Do you see this happening in everyday life with every couple? No, not really. Probably not, and if so, not on this scale. Is it something that is possible? Yes, absolutely, because people with these issues and characteristics exist.

When writing angst, use imagery. For me, that means describing everything. I describe the physical aspects both immediate(self, person character is with),  exterior (other people around, things), emotional aspects (self unless writing in 3rd person then all), psychological elements and sometimes even social aspects. I try to keep the details down, but I will admit sometimes I get carried away in it and just write like 700 words on description and feelings, and I have to go back and trim. So do it with as much detail as possible for you. Just keep in mind to describe things in a beautiful but sorrowful way. I like to think of it as poetry. That might be weird.😬

I know descriptive writing can be a challenge for anyone. Try your best.

I also love one thing I learned long ago. Ask yourself, "what does the character(s) want"? Figure it out and throw everything at them to prevent it and them getting it while keeping in mind that the past, present, and future should have clear causes and effects on the characters and story.

Details are important. I like to think the smaller the detail, the more description. For example, imagine the button on a peacoat. You are staring at it using it as a focal point; describe that tiny detail, in greater detail. Include feelings as you're focusing on it. Why do you need a focal point? Do you feel like you're going crazy? Why? Does it remind you of anything like a spider's web with the way the thread is tightly wrapped around the button? Does that spider's web make you think of deception? Etc. The same can go for details about people. Keep in mind that old tired thing we learned in H.S English class, the 5Ws and an H. (Who, what, when, where and why then how)

Remember, the level of angst depends on your character's personality and the circumstances of the story.

Angst can be challenging, especially knowing the right level to go to and how much is enough. There's a careful balance to it that can get tricky. You want it to touch the heart, be powerful, even gut-wrenching maybe, and filled with authentic, raw, human emotion. You dont want it to be or feel forced or fake, so going overboard can quickly turn it depressive and confusing.

If possible, I would say, try to draw inspiration from your personal angsty experiences or those close to you that you have interacted with. Make the stories of others that you draw inspiration from, stories that you understand and relate to.

Remember, while angst is cool, all angst 24/7 might be a bit much unless specified from the get-go. I find it essential to give small rewards to readers throughout the process. Think of it as a tug o war game.

You are pulling all these emotions, and while pulling them, you are throwing them out too. When you feel the timing is right, slacken that rope and give some breathers, rays of sunshine, happiness, joy, other positive emotions.

Show the glimmer of hope every once in a while and the progress being made. I use angst as an intense changing factor for my characters. I can't do meaningless angst, and I don't suggest you do it either. Readers can see right through it.

A final thing I can add because I feel like this is long as hell and don't want to make this ridiculously long, you can complete it with a cliffhanger.

So…. Aladdin, huh? I saw the movie yesterday and decided to sleep on it before making this post. I’d like to start saying that I love the 1992 movie. It’s probably in my top 10, if not top 5 of Disney movies. Nevertheless, the 2019 remake isn’t bad, but I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece or “better than the original”. I’ve made a list of the parts I recognized as good, bad and neutral (meaning they’re not bad, but they left no impact on me). 

I may go into spoiler territory, so if you’re interested in seeing the movie I recommend you not reading further. 

We good? Okay, here we go with the positives:

- I really liked the scenography. I don’t know where they filmed it, but it was breathtaking at time. The movie took time to show us the city, and I loved it. The palace was beautiful. It reminded me of the Topkapi Palace in Istambul a little bit. The inside of the cave of wonders appeared smaller than the one in the original, but it’s not a bad thing. 

- The wardrobe department did an amazing job! Jasmine’s dresses were so beautiful.She looks stunning in that turquoise dress. Aladdin’s prince attire was wonderful as well. 10/10. They aced it.

- The choreographies too were marvelous. Mena Massoud is an incredible dancer. He was super energetic. I got a little of Bollywood vibes with some dances (the Prince Alì one for example). Like the wardrobe department, they all did an amazing job.

- The CGI was really good! I was afraid (as most people I think) that the Genie would look bad, but that’s not it. Yeah, it’s a lil’ weird at the beginning, but you get used to it quick enough. I think both Abu and Raja were CGI modified at times, but I’m not sure. They looked super realistic. Oh, the carpet! The carpet was a lot of fun, but they didn’t show it a lot. What a shame. In the few scenes it had, it was really well animated. 

- This one is a mixed bag: the casting. It’s really good for some parts, and for others.. well.. I’ll explain those later. Mena Massoud plays a credible Aladdin and Naomi Scott is a wonderful princess Jasmine. I could see they both loved their parts. Their chemistry is also over the roof. Their romance is a little more awkward than in the original movie, but I liked it. I found it really cute.  

- Will Smith as the Genie works, but I didn’t have any doubt. It goes without saying that Robin William’s one will forever being the superior one, but I think everybody’s knew that. He gave the character a new twist: a little bit more abrasive at times. I don’t know if I 100% like it, but it’s new. He tried to make the character his, and I commend to that.

I think that’s all, at least that comes to mind. Let’s move to the neutral points:

- The songs. I don’t know if this happened with the English songs, but in Italian there have been some changes. They’re not even major changes, just a few words and I don’t understand it. The new take on “A Friend like Me” is good (although I could have done it without the rapping part). “Prince Alì” seemed a little toned down. I think they could have done more with it, could really have gone BIG. I’m bummed out Jafar didn’t sing his song, but looking back at his characterization in this movie I’m glad he didn’t (more on it later). “Speechless” was .. okay? An average power ballad song. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. It was important for the growth of this new Jasmine, so I’ll take it. 

- Speaking of Jasmine, I don’t know how to feel about this new version. Yeah, she’s strong and empowered, but I thought she was already powerful in the original? I’ve seen people love this new take, and I don’t hate it I’m just.. neutral to it. They add some political themes in it, and I didn’t mind them tbh. Although the whole “You’re a woman, so you should not speak” was a little annoying at times, but whatever. It was important for her character growth. 

- There have been some changes with the timeline. For example, Aladdin and Jasmine meet at the bazar before he sings “One Jump Ahead”. We even meet her BEFORE finding out she’s the princess. They’re not bad changes, and sometimes they work for the better. 

- Jafar now has a backstory…. okay? They give it to us out of nowhere and it felt like they were reading his character’s sheet. He used to be a skilled thief and this turned out to be relevant later in the movie, so I’m okay with it. Plus, the scene were he and Aladdin first meet and Jafar show his skills it’s good. I liked it. I actually liked the scenes where those two interacted. That’s the most I can say about the Jafar of this movie (lol)

- I don’t mind the addition on Dalia (Jasmine’s handmaiden). I knew she would have been the Genie’s love interest from the start. I don’t think she did much for the story, but whatever. She wasn’t annoying so she gets a pass from me.

- Iago…. oh my dear Iago. You were so fun in the original and now.. you’re just okay. Istg he’s more important than Jafar at times. He does everything for him in this movie. I joked a lot with my friend on how is Iago the evil mastermind now. I wish they had given him a real script and not just some words to say from time to time. I guess they were going for realism smh.

And now… the negative.

- YOU GET A BACKSTORY. AND YOU GET A BACKSTORY. EVERYBODY GET A BACKSTORY!!! Now even Razoul/Hakim has a backstory.. Why??? I don’t believe he needed one. Jafar having one was already odd, but whatever, it was kinda important. But Hakim? Why? I’m so confused. It also came out of nowhere, it was used by Jasmine to “change his heart and made him realize how he really should be fighting for”…. Bah.

- Another character change I don’t like is the sultan’s one. He was fine before, why did they went and changed him?! He was a fun-loving father. Yeah, he was childish, but in a charming way. I swear I think he is in this movie for less than 15 minutes. He didn’t even seem to like his own daughter. Yes, he gave her the kingdom at the end and recognized she’s capable of being a great leader…. but I got no love from him.

- Now the change I hate the most: Jafar. What have they done to you??? He’s one of my favorite villains. He’s cunning, power-hungry, crazy at times and a joy to watch overall. This 2019 Jafar? He’s just soooo boring! IHe has no charisma, not charme. He doesn’t seem that much smart either. He’s just .. there ‘cause we need a villain so. I’ve seen posts where Marwan Kenzari’s characterization was deemed as a “glow up” and an “upgrade”????? Are you for real??? Is it only cause he’s handsome?? Is this what you want? A bland good looking villain? Jesus Christ I’m so mad at this change. Every time he was on screen I wished he would just go away. The only exceptions, as stated before, where the scenes with Mena Massoud. Stop. A total miss-casted role imo.

- Speaking of miss…. what a climax huh? In the original 1992 movie we had a great battle against a giant snake, swords, Genie’s cheering for Aladdin, Jasmine in an hourglass, black and red everywhere…. now we got a giant parrot….. WONDERFUL! EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!  Yeah it wasn’t good. At that point I was just waiting for Jafar to make that dumb third wish and go away. The way Aladdin tricks Jafar to become a genie further proves how dumb he is in this adaptation. Ugh… whatever. Jasmine becomes sultan because her father just doesn’t want to be one anymore I guess, and she changes the law to marry Aladdin. Amazing. 10/10. best ending ever…. why didn’t her father changed the law himself? Why did he give her his power I.. I don’t know. At that point I didn’t care anymore.

- This last one is a major nick-pic … but how funny was the last kiss of Aladdin and Jasmine? They are outside the palace’s doors, surrounded by commoners, and they kiss. I imagine an average Hoe, just minding his own business, while drinking his karkadé. Out of nowhere he sees the princess in public after YEARS. YEARS THE CITY HASN’T SEEN HER. And what does she do? She kisses this random thief. Idk, I found it funny.

To wrap it up: 

Is it a good movie? Yeah, it was fun at times. Do I recommend it? I guess? Look, if you’re not a big Aladdin’s fan and you want a new take of the overall story you’re going to like it. I’d give it a solid 7/10.

1. hi my name is marina ((but that’s in my basic blog description so i’m gonna pull a sophie and give u 2 facts in one thing even though it’s CHEATING)) and I am...... a millennial sjw ...............smh millenials..............,,,,,,,,,,,, 

2. I’m at uni and i study social justice stuff and also geography (migration...immigration.....urban planning....) and I’m pretty good at writing essays but i procrastinate like nobody’s business lol (yikes!!!) and i like to read (which i guess is good cause i probably have 200 pages a week!! not including when i have to read (a) whole book(s) ie english!)

3. I’m not like a masterchef but I can do a recipe i’ve never done before and generally have it turn out pretty good which is apparently impressive to some? i like baking with friends as a fun thing to do but I’m also really controlling in the kitchen so it’s probably not that fun after all LOL

4. I’m allergic to almost everything lol. including:

dogs, cats, any furry animal that exists

birds and feathers

dust, mould, etc

trees and grass, 

some random medicine i dont know the name of (i didnt know this until like last year cause i went to emerg but ya thats a thing it apparently gives me a rash)

5. i’m an anxious bean but like under really like......inconsistent (?) circumstances? or more like uh....non-.......whats the word like when it doesn’t match what your brain thinks something it would be (WHATEVER) anyway like yesterday I almost cried cause i didn’t understand a card game but one time when i was a kid my little bro had a seizure and my parents had to rush him to the hospital and we had to call my grandma to come over, and like my sister was all !!!!!!??? boo hoo hoo and i was all like “gimme the phone i’ll do it”. like sometimes i keep a very cool head in situations you wouldn’t think i would and sometimes im a mess in a situation u’d think i wouldn’t be u know what i’m trying to say

6. I really like music but i’m not like that Musical Person friend. Like I listen to a lot of music of a bunch of different genres and time periods and in elementary/high school I played the trumpet (i also did piano and euphonium but like if u gave me one of those now I wouldn’t be able to do much with it whereas if u gave me a trumpet.....man). I really like acoustic songs, and songs with violins and saxophones in it, HARMONIES, songs where people’s voices go really “raw” sounding, songs where people’s voices have that like “radio voice” filter, songs that start off kinda soft and then BUILD!!!!!, and songs that have a bunch of different parts all doing their own thing but then they all come together for this multilayered goodness!!!!!. If anyone other than John or Sophie is reading this (bless your soul if so) and if u have song recs for me, like, lay them on me i always need new music

7. I don’t get a lot of mainstream references but I have a weird um...pool of reference material that I can pull from?? like i’m not like That Guy who’s like rly obnoxious always talking abt those obscure movies but my parents are both like from drama stuff and like movies/shows and are also huge nerds so i’ve seen like a wide array of genre-d stuff. plus i took a film course so i’m basically an expert. did you know that plot and story are two different things? Story is whe---

8. My family’s kinda complicated. (wow i sound like an emo blog in 2006 but i just didnt want to start another long rambley sentence so here we are) My mom’s side is italian and my dad’s side is british so my italian relatives weren’t too happy abt that (i just learned this the other day but apparently at their wedding my moms uncle [who’s a dick] was saying something inappropriate to my dad, who was like “uhhhh...” and then her other uncle was like ‘ay! tony! leave the asshole alone!’ LOL) and then the british side is full of drama and alcoholics lol. and then the communication in my like... regular fam is a bit bad lol ((also i have like......30+ cousins, (20ish regular and a shit ton distant but less that i actually know) and yet we keep in contact with each other so what a weird ironic twist that is eh))

9. I can like kind of swim but I also like can’t swim cause I don’t float even though everyones like “ya u do!! people float” i just sink down lol. tho i’m kind of practicing a bit every summer at my friend’s house. i also like to pretend that it’s because of childhood trauma cause i had swimming lessons on two (2) different occasions  and they were both awful

when i was like 6 , and i refused to put my face in the water so my instructor was like “Right!” and shoved my head under lol!

when i was like 10 and i was embarrassed enough being like an older kid learning like... level 1 swimming right before these like 5 year olds who were doing the same thing (also in retrospect my instructors were only like 16 im pretty sure, like they seemed rly old to 10 year old me but they were really young lol) and the same thing happened as the other one except with diving lol. like i didn’t want to jump off the deep end and sometimes i would do it myself but at least once this girl pushed me in (basically every time either way they had to pull me up from the bottom which was kinda useless like if ur gonna teach me to dive whats the point if u dont teach me to come up from a dive right?? right)

10. I’m kinda quiet and shy but when I have the chance and am comfortable i go on HUGE rants and also go off on like 12 different tangents while trying to tell a story. like you could probably figure out this about me by reading this post but i just wanna let you know this isn’t a one-off thing just because it’s a Fact Post like i do this in real life and the way i talk is probably just as broken up and confusing as how i type!!! ahhaah

11. I used to be a hater but now I’m like actively trying to not be a hater cause hating on stuff for no reason is boring and liking stuff is fun (tho it’s harder in person cause i’m really sarcastic and pessimistic and i literally can’t stop complaining about things). Some things I stopped hating on recently:

Aesthetic things that are like “basic”/”simple” (i have an aesthetic blog now! who knew!) like pictures of like......curtains?? i used to be like “wow thats dumb” but man textures and also the weird mood that’s connected with your aesthetic it’s so calming

K-pop LOL :) 

Honestly?? memes. 

Boys apparently??? I dunno how true that is but @1of1prism​ knows me better than I know myself most of the time (but i still dont give 2 shits abt boys)
