If you wanna surprise people with the answer to a trivia question, ask them to name the first Disney full length movie to use computer generated images?
Because the answer is 1961’s 101 Dalmatians. “They had CGI in 1961?!” you might ask and yes though it wasn’t anything we might call CGI nowadays but they were images which were “generated” by a computer so to speak. And by “generated” I mean they used a Xerox machine.
By 1961 Walt had started to become jaded when it came to animation following Sleeping Beauty being a flop at the box office in addition to costing twice as much as previous animated films from Disney (especially since Sleeping Beauty was something Walt actually put a lot of passion into, similar to Fantasia which and how that also bombed and I don’t care much for Walt as a man but I can get how this would be pretty demoralizing) and shifted his attention to theme parks and his futurist utopianism. So with 101 Dalmatians, Walt was less directly involved than in the previous animated movies and largely was there to approve ideas people had.
One day art director Ken Anderson came to Walt and proposed a cost that they use a new method for animating the film, Xerox machines. The technique is called “xerography” (Xerox is actually both “named after” the word but also invented it) and allowed for greatly reducing costs and time when it came to animation because rather than having people hand draw sketches onto animation cels they would instead xerox those sketches onto the cels. Now at the time this was only viable with black and white images and so the cels would still need to be hand colored but 101 Dalmatians ended up being the ideal movie to use the technique on because of the Dalmatians and particularly how there are certain scenes where you have dozens and dozens and at some points all 101 Dalmatians present at the same time. Imagine the amount of effort that would be used in hand drawing cels where you have all 101 Dalmatians present considering that each Dalmatian is supposed to have their own unique spots and the ample room for animation errors to come up and you can understand the appeal. And while it doesn’t meet modern understanding of “computer generated images” the fact that a machine was copying and producing these images and taking over what was formerly a human task (I mean human animators still needed to color it in but whatever) and Xerox machines at the time were essentially analog computers and you can get it. There’s an interview with Chuck Jones from the 70s where he talked about 101 Dalmatians and used the word “computer animation” to describe it so that was how it was seen at the time and even ten years later
Now like I said Walt had been disillusioned with animation but was aware it was his companies bread and butter so when Anderson came to him with the proposal he replied with “"Ah, yeah, yeah, you can fool around all you want to". But when Walt finally saw early versions of the movie? He fucking hated it and said Disney is never going to use one of those “goddamned” Xerox machines again. It destroyed the enchantment and wonder in Walt’s view. This was a guy that had already sorta given up for the moment on actually putting passion into animated films from his studio and just let the animation department handle it but upon seeing all the end result of xerogrgraphy, he was disgusted! Where was the humanity in this? All he saw was the work of machines and said Anderson would never be an animation director again (Anderson says Walt would eventually apologize shortly before his death).
And I think that’s interesting. Without knowing any better, would any contemporary person watching 101 Dalmatians claim it’s anything other than “hand drawn animation”? Because that’s not what it was considered to be at least circa early 60s Disney animation department. Hell, the technique isn’t even really noticeable unless you’re watching the blu-ray version of the movie which is in a higher resolution than it was ever intended to be watched in (there’s actually a lot of agreement that the film is much visually worse in blu-ray). But for Walt Disney, the futurist who in 1961 had already been stepping away from animation? He only saw the work of machines and something stripped of its humanity. But nowadays? You can have CGI movies in our sense of “cgi” where you aren’t even working off any hand drawn sketch but instead images wholly created by computers being directed by artists and the humanity and passion can be made readily apparent in something even more removed from the days of hand drawn cels than the Xerox machine technique.
Anyway, whenever there’s new technology in the arts it’s normal for people to initially see just the work of machines and artificiality. But once people get used to it and it becomes normal, they stop seeing the machine and start seeing the people behind it. Same as it ever was

What is your opinion of Walt Disney?
Okay I will warn you this will be a bit long
Walt Disney is an inspiration flat out no matter what you say he is an inspiration to me, I come from humble rural backgrounds just 3 hours away from me lays Chicago where the Disney Family built a house and was starting a life before Elias Disney Walt's father moved them to Mississippi
There's a reason Kansas City claims to be Home of the Mouse because that's where Walt did a lot of blue collar work, from working in ad companies to working in the newspapers while he taught himself how to draw and eventually yes how to animate
You know how he first made his projectors at home with one of those really old-fashioned cameras. I am talking 1920s camera a sheet and some technical know-how,
Laugh-o-gram Studios had just gone up and that's what caused them to move to California, they weren't known, they did not have a penny to their name, they were just some Mississippi Chicago boys with a wish and a dream,
And from a shed in the backyard of Walt and Roy's Aunt and Uncle, the Disney Company would be founded and to go from that shed to the absolute massive company we see now
That only happened due in part because of Walt and yes Roy I will always give Roy just as much credit as his brother because he's much like Oswald quite forgotten in this story
Walt was a man ahead of his time, the original Dreamer no matter who laughed jeered ect he kept pushing the boundaries of what people thought Animation could do,
That is not to say he was perfect ohhh no he was definitely human, he had problems sharing he was known for being unbelievably stubborn on certain things, extremely old fashioned in views (He was Lost Gen After all being born in 1901)
1941 he traumatized himself horribly by ostracizing his crew who wanted to form a union, it lead to Walt getting into an actual brawl out front of the Disney Studios with one of his inner circle as they called it, leading to that one leaving with several others it broke his trust badly, and even worse
It took his passion for Animation away from him
A majority of projects in the 40s, 50s and '60s up until his death weren't really headed by him, sure he was involved in certain aspects but a majority of the times it was somebody else in the Studio that was the main overseer of those movies.
It really is sad because Jungle Book which was released in 1967 gave him his passion for animation back he was actually enjoying himself and had a few projects in mind, just as the cancer unfortunately struck and took him not even 2 months later on Dec 15th 1966,
When people say Walt Disney had so much unfinished business, they aren't lying. He was an imperfect human who believed in Family, Wishes,Dreams and seeing the Wonder in everything, that everything had a possibility to be great,
Did you know Characters in the parks aren't supposed to let go in a hug until the child does because Walt said
When a child hugs you, you don't let go first. Let them let go when they're ready because you never know how much they may need that hug in their life.
He was not perfect. However, he was a prime example of not giving up despite adversity, caring for Families instead of the Profits, Lord knows he danced the edge with bankruptcy multiple times fun fact The Three Caballeros helped save the company in the 40s after Fantasias fantastic flop, the government paid Disney to produce that package film and thats what kept them from going completely under, also thank Disney for your Surround Sound because Fantasia is the first 1. There is a reason some do say Disney is the prime example of the American Dream realized.
Because that's all Walt Roy and Ub had when they walked into Hollywood in the 1920s and founded a company that would become known around the World eventually with a Mouse who's name would come to be known by almost every child.

“I’m more interested in looking for something transitory than in producing a conclusion.”
Pierre Huyghe
“I’m interested in contingency,” the French artist Pierre Huyghe has said. “Of what is not predictable. Of what is unknown. I think that has somehow been a core of my work.”1 Pursuing interests in contingency and unpredictability, Huyghe creates art forms that incorporate living organisms, such as dogs, turtles, spiders, peacocks, ants, and bees. Over the course of an exhibition, his living works of art grow, decay, and die. Huyghe said, “They are not made for us. They are not made to be looked at. They exist in themselves.”2
Throughout his career, Huyghe has experimented with many mediums and technologies, including film, sculpture, photography, music, and living ecosystems. At the outset of his career, Huyghe collaborated with artists whose work explored human relations and their social context; to describe their interests, the curator and art critic Nicolas Bourriaud coined the term Relational Aesthetics. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Huyghe’s works often reenacted notable artworks or popular footage from mass media. In Silence Score (English Version), a musical notation of John Cage’s pivotal composition 4'33", he created a readable score for the silent piece using a computer algorithm.
In 1997, with artists Charles de Meaux, Philippe Parreno, and Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster and curators Xavier Douroux and Franck Gautherot, Huyghe cofounded a film production company called Anna Sanders Films. They named the company after a fictional character first developed in a magazine released in 1997. Blanche-Neige Lucie, the company’s first film, stars Lucie Doléne, the voice actor who dubbed the Disney character Snow White in French, and who won a lawsuit against the Walt Disney Corporation for the rights to the reproduction of her voice. The film features Doléne humming the melody of “Someday My Prince Will Come” in an empty film studio, facing the camera, while her story is told through the subtitles. The work explores how a voice can be used to create a character, and who then owns that product.
The Host and The Cloud fuses scripted action and improvised narratives generated by the actors. The yearlong project records theatrical events that took place in an abandoned museum in Paris on three holidays: the Day of the Dead, Valentine’s Day, and May Day. In a variety of fictional settings, 15 actors clad in LED masks perform alongside puppets and animation. These spontaneous elements reflect Huyghe’s interest in contingency and adding dynamic layers to his storylines.
Originally created for Documenta 13 in 2012, Huyghe’s Untilled (Liegender Frauenakt) is a reclining female nude whose head is covered by a live beehive. The work was part of an entire ecological system the artist created in a composting area in Karlsaue Park in Kassel, Germany. In a video Huyghe filmed during the exhibition, his camera captured a wide range of beings at different scales, including minute species that are barely visible to the naked eye. Huyghe aims to “intensify the presence of things, to find its own particular presentation, its own appearance and its own life, rather than subjecting it to pre-established models.”3 With interest in “the transitory state, in the in-between,” his complex worlds blur the boundaries between the natural and the artificial, the physical and the virtual, and the real and the fictional.4 In 2015 and again in 2023, the statue found itself in MoMA’s Sculpture Garden, placed in a new context and in conversation with other works of art. During the summer, the bees travel in and out of the garden to pollinate and build their hive.
Huyghe’s artistic practice reflects his belief that life is in constant flux, and that all beings exist beyond the perceivable realm of human senses and knowledge. By engaging with unconventional materials and technologies, he provides us with a way to see, feel, and experience the wild, untilled world we are living in.

Mickey Mouse Day
If there’s one image that everyone in the world can recognize, it’s the iconic ever-so-giant ears of that favorite mouse, Disney’s Mickey Mouse. His face (and those very dramatic ears) graces everything from ceramic mugs to balloons, touching on every industry and area of the lives of people all over the planet.
Mickey’s face can be found in the shape of ice cream on a hot summer afternoon, or on the back of a hoodie on a frigid autumn morning. And when the day’s work is done, kids and adults alike can join him in Kingdom Hearts as their King.
It all started with a short film called “Steamboat Willie”, and ever since, Mickey has been the very icon of family fun, hope over adversity, and following your dreams. And from there, the entire imaginative world of Disney was born.
It’s time for Mickey Mouse Day!
History of Mickey Mouse Day
Mickey Mouse was originally dreamed up by Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney in 1928. Actually, if it wasn’t for a bit of duplicitous backstabbing and a little bit of Hollywood drama, Mickey might never have come into existence.
Mickey first came to pass as a replacement for Walt’s first popular creation, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Since Disney left his job at Universal, he had to cut ties with Oswald. After the relationship with Universal Studios soured, Mickey Mouse was created and came to be the avatar of the happiest place on earth.
In doing so, the adorable mouse was created and made his debut in a short cartoon called Plane Crazy. Even then, it wasn’t a great hit with the test crowd, which just goes to show that perseverance is everything. It wasn’t until the third release, Steamboat Willie, that Mickey’s career finally got off the ground.
And from that first short film, Mickey has risen to be a worldwide recognized Icon. Year after year, the mouse garnered nominations for the Academy Award for the Best Animated Short film, and finally won one in 1942. As a tribute to just how popular and ground-breaking this fantastic mouse is, he was the first animated character to ever receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Since then, humans have seen the rise and fall of “The Mickey Mouse Club”, and a growing family of characters, including Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck and the rest of the gang that have all become part of the Disney IP.
It’s been more than 90 years now! And since this day also happens to be Mickey Mouse’s Birthday (the same day Steamboat Willie was released), it’s the exact perfect day to enjoy everything that has to do with this fantastic creature.
How to Celebrate Mickey Mouse Day
With Mickey appearing in so many places and in so many different types of media, the ways to celebrate Mickey Mouse day are only as limited as a person’s imagination.
Dress Up to Honor Mickey Mouse Day
Start off small by wearing or buying a Mickey Mouse-themed piece of clothing, maybe a hoodie bearing his image or a hat with Mickey Mouse ears. Franchised items abound with clothes including t-shirts, shorts, sweatpants, jackets, baseball hats, socks or even shoes! But it’s also possible to get creative and make your own Mickey Mouse attire.
Sing the Mickey Mouse Club Song Together
Once you’re dressed like hikm, take it one step further by singing that most popular song “M I C. K E Y. M O U S E! Mickey Mouse! (Donald Duck!)” from the Mousketeers show. Listen online if you need a boost to get started.
Gather with all of your friends and family and sing the songs from the days when your grandparents were children. Mickey Mouse has been around for many a year, and some of the oldies are the goodies.
Learn to Draw Mickey Mouse
Since it all began with a pencil on paper drawing of a mouse, a great way to enjoy the day is by practicing drawing the mouse himself. It can start with something as easy as three circles, one large one for the head and two smaller ones for the ears. Add a bit of a nose and some facial features, and there’s Mickey Mouse!
Head Over to a Disney Adventure Park
Best of all, plan a trip to one of Mickey Mouse’s kingdoms, located all over the world. Nothing celebrates the day of this Disney great like taking the whole family to the Magic Kingdom and spending the day enjoying everything Disney has to offer. With six in total, including Disney World located in Orlando, Florida, and Disneyland in Anaheim, California, the international locations can be visited in these places in the world:
Tokyo, Japan. Twin parks located here include Disneyland as well as its neighbor the DisneySea Resort, this park offers loads of options for accessing Mickey Mouse and his friends.
Paris, France. With Disneyland and a Walt Disney Studios Park, this is the only place in Europe to get really up close and personal with everyone’s favorite mouse.
Hong Kong. Disneyland here offers seven different adventure areas, one of which is themed “Main Street USA”.
Shanghai, China. This Disneyland is centered around Roaring Mountain which is located on a jungled-up Adventure Isle.
Watch Some Mickey Mouse Shows
Whether it’s some reruns of the original Mickey Mouse Club, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (the new version of the show), or the full-length feature film, Fantasia, this is a great day to enjoy some Mickey Mouse animation on the big screen. Grab some friends, be sure to have the snacks at the ready, and enjoy Mickey and his friends!

The 1980s
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first year of the decade was memorable for political drama, cable TV, and games people couldn't keep their hands off of. Arcades were jammed with people playing a new video game called Pac-Man.
By 1981, homes and offices were beginning to adapt to new technologies. If you had cable a TV you probably were watching, MTV after it began broadcasting in August. At work, typewriters began making way for something called a personal computer from IBM.
In 1982, Michael Jackson released his best-selling album “Thriller”. The Walt Disney (1901-1966) Company opens EPCOT Center (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow), its second theme park in Florida after Walt Disney Wold.
1983 was the year that saw birth of the Internet also saw volcanic eruptions and aircraft tragedies; the first woman in space and that holiday season craze of the Cabbage Patch Kids.
The Olympics in Sarajevo, the murder of the prime minister in India and Michael Jackson moonwalking for the first time at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium are among the events that happened in 1984.
1985, the R&B single “We Are The World” written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and recorded by more than 45 American singers, will go on to raise $75 million to feed people in Africa. The Coca-Cola Company introduced “New Coke”, a sweeter replacement of the original 99 year-old soda and it proved a popular failure. The Nintendo Entertainment System debuts in the US.
1986, the deadliest nuclear power plant accident to date occurred outside the Ukrainian city of Chernobyl, scattering radioactive material across Europe. Hands across America attempted to form a human chain from New York to California to raise money to fight hunger and homelessness.
1987, British pop singer George Michael released “Faith,” his debut solo studio album. The first episode of “Star Treck: The Next Generation,” the second sequel to the original series, aired on independent stations throughout the U.S.
1988, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” opens on Broadway, with Michael Crawford in the title role.
1989, the Berlin Wall falls, after an announcement by the East German government that the border checkpoints were open. The impromptu celebration was televised around the world.

Since I was at Walt Disney World a few weeks ago, I got to see (most of) the golden statues in honor of the park's 50th anniversary! Finding them at Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom were easier since they were mostly in one area. The statues at Magic Kingdom were all over the park (some are harder to spot than others).
Anyways, I wanted to share what other Disney characters I think would make good statues around WDW (and which park they would be in).
Dopey or Grumpy (somewhere in Fantasyland, maybe near the Seven Dwarves Mine Train, like how Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat are by the tea cups, or in Hollywood Studios)
Baymax (Probably in Tomorrowland so Stitch isn't lonely)
Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather (maybe by Cinderella's castle like Jaq and Gus, but maybe after getting to the other side into Fantasyland)
Rapunzel and Pascal (I know that human characters aren't often used for these statues, but I think it would be nice to have a Disney princess and another Tangled attraction to look at in the Tangled restroom/plaza in Liberty Square)
Naveen and Tiana as frogs (at Main Street USA, on the island shrubbery across from Lady and the Tramp, and maybe a little Ray the firefly as well?)
Baloo or King Louie (somewhere in the Asia region at Animal Kingdom, since The Jungle Book is set in India)
Kaa (maybe in the trees at Animal Kingdom like with Cheshire Cat, or near one of the sign entrances like with Abu on the Adventureland sign (both in Magic Kingdom))
Dug (at the Discovery Island region since that's where the Wilderness Explorer clubhouse is located. To add, move the Timon and Pumbaa and Simba statues over to the Africa area so Dug can be there)
Remy (he's got to be in Epcot because my older brother told me that it's a foodie place. I could be wrong though)
That's all I can think of. Feel free to reblog to add to the list of characters you'd like to see as gold statues at Walt Disney World and where you think they'd be

Ni Hao a Aloha Mai - Chapters 2 and 3
Michael Eisner watched the two gentlemen walk out of the room with a trumphant glimmer in their eyes and had called in Bob Iger to inform him of the results.
"You did the right thing, Michael." Bob congratulated his mentor. "We need Pixar as much as they need us."
"What can I say, they're practically part of the family." Michael retorted. "At least it'll buy us some more time with them and who knows… if all goes well, we could be owning three major Animation houses by the end of the decade."
"I'm glad to hear that you're taking thi… three?" Iger did a double take. "You mean, you're keeping the Florida lot?"
Eisener nodded back. "With California now focusing on CGI, we'll need to keep a homestead for the classic pen and paper approach. The Pixar guys proposed this as a condition for the continued relationship."
"Mike, isn't three Studios a little too much?" Iger argued. "Heck, I'd like to think two's more than enough."
"Well, it does help to have a counterpoint around to keep us on our toes." Eisener mentioned. "If we can make money off the inverse of our storytelling. Why not draw from both opposites in terms of the art."
"You heard what Katzenberg said!" Iger protested. "Hand Drawn is a relic of the past, you yourself said you wanted to centralize it all under CG."
"You're right, Bob." Admitted Michael. "We can't afford to be left in the past, but that doesn't mean we can just give up on what is an important part of our history. We gotta fight on and keep the craft going for as long as we can."
"We'll be throwing away money if you do this."
"We'll be throwing away Talent if we don't!"
Iger was dumbfounded. "You’ve finally lost it. After two straight decades on the job, you’ve let it go to your head.”
“Honestly, if it were earlier in these dismal days, a part of me would have agreed with ya.” Eisener shrugged. “But this is the voice of a man who’s willing to take the power back. Who’s ready to pull out all the stops and find new ways to help the medium keep up with CG’s rapid evolution. Who’s willing to see Disney’s magic remain vigilant in the face of a changing culture. This is a pivotal part of the plan going forward, our olive branch to Roy.”
“Are you seriously roping Roy into this?” Iger probed to his superior. “Especially when he’s dusted off his Save Disney campaign with Stanley Gold? You know, what got you in there in the first place?”
“Why not?” snarked the master to the apprentice. “After all, we wouldn’t have all this without it.”
“I don’t have time for this…” Iger facepalmed. “If you wanna play Ghandi, do it when there are human rights on the line instead of our pocketbooks.”
Michael took a look at his famed portrait of Walt and then his cover on Time Magazine before pulling out a pink sticky note. “Then I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do.”
“I get it.” Bob Iger proceeded to walk towards the door. “If you’re really taking it seriously, then try to calm down.”
“I’m trying, sir.” Iger added. “But this albatross you’ve chosen to keep around your neck is more than concerning.”
“So you’re that on edge, huh.” Eisener narrowed his stare. “Fine, if you’re just gonna walk off like this, you’re not walking back in. Do ya hear me? I didn’t take any crap from Katzenberg, I sure as hell ain’t takin’ any crap from you!”
Robert Iger opened the door and took in the gravity of the predicament and spoke: “I don’t really feel clean quoting a show that killed off your likeness in one episode… But in the words of Glenn Quagmire: Giggidy-Giggidy-Giggidy-Giggidy-Piss off, Jew!”
With a blunt slam, Michael Eisener watched helplessly as his protege left behind the destiny he had been planning for him. And once more, he felt like a failure.
Back at the Animation building, longtime veteran Berny Mathison looked to Iger as he made his way out for the final time. If these walls could talk, he would be hearing a faint, yet mournful roar when Iger got into his car and drove out the parking lot.
As for Iger, he tried to keep himself calm in the face of throwing away the biggest opportunity of his career as he drove into the snowy January road ahead. His mind continued to wander until his eyes spotted a little girl watching a smaller boy on his tricycle make his way to the sidewalk… while the girl herself was right on the road.
Iger honked as hard as he could to get her attention, his focus on the two making their way onto the sidewalk instead of the looming toy truck in front of the windshield.
WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE! ARMORED VEHICLE!

SMAAAaaash!!!!
(Robert Iger has left Disney and may very well leave this mortal plane of existence, +10 to Eisener's Stress)
Dan DeBarde
...and done!
Darn, your hand was sore.
Who knew there would be so many papers to sign when producing an animated feature. "Your new partner's waiting for you in the other room, sir."
"So you must be Eric, Welcome aboard…" You shook hands and walked your guest through the door. "How was your flight?"
"In a word, bittersweet. I mean, yeah, you stood up for the Florida place, and hand drawn as a whole." Eric Goldberg smiled back. "A shame I had to leave behind a bunch of my colleagues back home."
"Now you know how 88 of us felt when Eisener shipped them in the opposite direction." You deadpanned to the warmer gentleman.
"Hey, I’m more than happy to pull my own weight around these parts given the second chance you gave us.” Eric confided to his fellow executive. "Though don’t expect me to come in on time for at least a couple months."
“Yeah, I get it. It’s 10 in the morning on the west coast.” You joked. “I’m just glad I didn’t pick Berny, he’d probably would have croaked mid-flight.”
(Eric Goldberg installed as Creative Executive of Feature Animation)
“Just heard from him, by the way...” Eric sighed. “Turns out the half of us that’s stuck in Burbank is being forced into an 18-month crash course in computer animation for Chicken Little. But god bless him, he’s doing his best.”
“Guess that’s why they call you guys lifers.” You joked back.
Eric's eyes wandered over your office and found a plushie of a familiar blue creature and picked it up. "So this is Mickey of the Floridian Generation, huh."
“Yep.” You leaned back into your cozy chair, your one solace in this difficult job.
(Stitch Recognized as Mascot of Walt Disney Feature Animation)
“Can’t say I’m shocked, the little fella’s become an icon of the decade right now.” “See, we actually have him headlining the new tour video with Mushu cause y'know, we've had Back to Neverland for so long, It’s high time we sunset it in favor of something more modern."
“I understand.” Eric smirked. “So what’s the plan, boss…”
“Funny you brought up that crash course, Mister Joe Ranft actually ended up on the shortlist for the position you’ve just filled by taking the initiative to provide the tutelage.” You recounted before pulling out a phone number. “And he pitched the idea of our mascots alongside Mickey and Woody interacting with an old friend.”
You then pull out a photograph of Walt Disney, and Eric was gobsmacked. "Of course, we'll have to heavily vet the actor we bring to fill his carbonite-frozen shoes. But I've interned on Jeopardy long enough to get Trebek's phone number so I'm sure I could get him to stop by for an audition."
"I'd like to think a quick dinner with Roy would work." Eric smiled back.
(Because we're Curious locked in four the tour video)
(Alex Trebek added to Voice Pool)
"Now, Mike decided to call in a few favors from Miyazaki." He continued.
"The Ghibli Guy?" You tilted your head. "With the long ears."
"Totoro's a production of Ghibli, yes." Eric corrected. "He got in touch with Tezuka Productions and Mike was offered one of three potential titles to adapt into a film."
"Couldn’t we just fix Peoples?" You asked. "I'm sure Kirk and Gary could patch together something presentable from a hot mess like that, just look at Beauty and the Beast for crying out loud."
"Well, you did promise four hand-drawn films."
"Doesn't say we can't still dabble in CG every now and then." You shrugged in your office chair before continuing. "Go ahead, give them a call."
(Roll for Wisedale)
D23=17
"Oh, alright." Eric sighed. "But you better lobby Mike to give Burbank a 2D flick to do in return."
"I'll see what I can do." You then picked up a TV remote. "Like I said, we had to pick a title. And this is what we picked."
You hold up the remote to click on the television to unveil the teaser trailer to their current project. The screen opened with a flip book of frames depicting Doc, one of the seven dwarves, belting out the opening 'High-Hoooooo!' We then see the Blue Fairy waving her wand over Sorcerer Mickey as Ink and paint is being applied to the two. Dumbo and Bambi slide into frame as screens depicting shots of Disney's back catalog of movies and shorts zoomed in to the voices of an entire crowd that was far larger than the other six. "High-Hoooooo!" Silence hit as the screen showing Mary Poppins being served by the Animated Penguins was followed by one of Baloo and Bagheera dancing off into the sunset. The post Walt era films would flow in to the voice of Phil Collins joining in for the chorus and into the Renaissance with a billowing. "High-Ho! High-Ho! High-Hoooooo!"
High-Ho! High-Ho!
Ni hao a Aloha Mai
To All who come to this happy place
ALO-HA MAI!
The screens were congregating into the background as the logo flew in its CGI golden glory: Walt Disney Feature Animation.
"Gorgeous." Eric complimented. "Though a bit self-indulgent."
"Yeah, even I thought it was a bit much, but Phil was at the wrap party and rallied the troops when we announced the save. So I thought we could use it for our calling card." You smiled. "We've even got plans to animate Stitch into it."
"Gotta milk that mascot, eh?" Eric laughed with you, yes this was going to be a fun partnership. "Now, about that Tezuka flick."
"Right! It was back and forth between Melmo and Dororo, both incredibly wild projects, wilder than Astro Boy believe it or not." You elaborated. "One has a little girl jumping back and forth through puberty and the other has a guy carved into literal pieces, one for the 48 demons that carved him up for a warlord."
Eric's eyes widened and his blood churned. "Yikes."
"Yeah, pretty heavy stuff all things considered." You admitted. "But we already locked in Mary Gibbs as the little girl for both of them so let's get to reading." You tapped heavily at the box of tankobans printed by the Tezuka estate as if you were doing a drum roll "And the winner is:"
Tumblr media
(Dororo Becomes the fourth or fifth film from Walt Disney Feature Animation!)
"Fun fact, the animators proposed a sequence where Melmo would undergo a rough initial transformation going through all the rough parts of puberty." You joked to your partner. "Yeah, she was just not worth the parental cries of 'The Children'. Maybe next time if this partnership pans out."
"We just gotta wait and see, right?" Eric smiled back.
"For now, we gotta call up the Beastie Boys and figure out how the carved into pieces bit can work out for us." You go back to your desktop PC only to find a frown on Eric's jovial jaws.
"So... you've heard about Iger, right?"
(Is he okay?)
D23=16
Two sleepless months went by for Willow Bay where she would do her job on CNN or MSNBC as an entertainment industry correspondent, then spend the twilight hours tending to her wounded husband. The now former Chief Operating Officer of the Walt Disney Company would lay unconscious as the days bled into weeks, and to say that Michael was devastated was an understatement.
He pulled out all the stops for him, calling in all sorts of talent from across the industry to share their wishes for Iger's full recovery. Gift baskets, wine, toys, gift baskets with wine, and letters from concerned children.
There was even a collection of voice-mail messages from familiar voices of Disney's past from Jim Cummings to Robin Williams, most of them were When you Wish upon a Star (and would see reuse in Once Upon a Studio for the 100th Anniversary) but what ultimately stirred him from his coma was Jennifer Hale's message. She had invited Ilane Woods to sing 'A Dream is a Wish' together, and when Willow played it for him like she usually did for every message. Iger's eyes began to flutter open and muttered: "Hell of a winter, eh."
The road to recovery was relatively rough on the man, not only did he have to get readjusted to his body but he also needed a job to get himself back on his feet financially. Luckily, Fox President Gail Berman has been looking to relaunch Fox Kids as a full network and thought that he could be the best choice for the studio and could very well be the best pick for the job. Given his ties to Disney and the guilt Eisener had meant that Fox could easily buy back the Fox Family Worldwide Library from Eisener since he's been doing a decent job burying it all, but it wasn't enough.
For Fox Kids to bounce back from its demise at the hands of the mouse, they needed a long-term strategy to re-establish itself. Then a sudden idea hit him: Fox was looking to enter a cozy relationship with [adult swim] to rerun its animated shows like, if he could perchase that for Fox Kids,  it would be mutually beneficial due this would cut out the middlemen of licencing and rope in the audience that grew up with Fox Kids back in the 90s. So, once he checked out of the hospital, he took the position and got to work on negotiations.
(Robert Iger is courting adult swim, bruh. What's gunna happen, bruh?)
D23=22
AOL Time Warner, rapidly bleeding money and looking to shed some deadweight, decided to feed them all of Turner Broadcasting in October of 2004 for keeping everything that would be rendered redundant by the exchange including CNN, TBS and TNT as well as the Looney Tunes shorts from the Turner Library and the complete portfolio of Scooby Doo and Tom and Jerry (The latter of which would be folded into the Looney Tunes lineup) due to a few projects being in production. All for a total of $22 Billion Dollars. This Irked Carl Icahn, and prompted him to accelerate his plans to dismantle the AOL Time Warner merger, but that debacle is another story and shall be told another time.

Obscure Animation Subject #87: Soviet Winnie the Pooh
So Winnie the Pooh, originally book adapted into a franchise by Disney in 1966, then went public domain in 2022 resulting in a crap tone of low quality scary stuff happening to the character like a horror film and horror games. But we’re not discussing those, and not even the stuff from Disney, although HenryBean did do a scorecard on the 1988 Disney TV series. Instead, I will look at animated adaptations not by Disney that aren’t well known outside of their origin country Russia (formerly Soviet Union back when the cartoons were produced).
This is a trilogy of animated shorts all produced by Soyuzmultfilm and directed by Fyodor Khitruk, with the final installment co-directed by Gennady Sokolsky. The trilogy adapts chapters 1, 2, 4 and 6 of the original book series by A. A. Milne. The first two installments are 11 minutes, but the final is twice the length.
Khitruk studied the original book by Milne first in English and only later in Russian, translated by Boris Zakhoder who became a co-writer of the first two parts of the trilogy. Khitruk had not seen the Disney adaptations while working on his own. He created the prototype drawings of the characters together with Vladimir Zuikov, a fellow animator from Film, Film, Film. He followed the original book by A. A. Milne and based his first two parts of the trilogy on the Pooh's love for honey. However, while Milne accentuated the relationships between a boy (Christopher Robin) and his favorite toy Pooh, Khitruk removed Christopher Robin and made Pooh the leading character, his narrator is a "true" narrator who has no relation to the story whatsoever. Pooh is balanced by the Piglet; they are best friends and are present in all parts of the story. While Pooh always takes the initiative, he often seeks advice and help from the Piglet. The main reason to remove Robin was to exclude a vastly superior character (a human), and put all others at an equal level. Khitruk followed his style and drew all scenes in two dimensions. His animation was relatively simple and slowly paced compared to other Milne adaptations, especially the Disney ones. Instead, Khitruk put much emphasis on the dialogues and timing, every move of his characters and every character line are intended to bring hidden details and irony to viewers of all ages.
Eventually major creative differences made Zakhoder leave the series, and it ended after just three shorts, being a trilogy, but more shorts had actually been planned, though scrapped entirely. Nevertheless, by 1976, Khitruk was awarded the USSR State Prize for the Winnie-the-Pooh trilogy. The animation characters, as designed by Khitruk's team, are featured on the 1988 Soviet and 2012 Russian postal stamps; they are permanently painted on a public streetcar running through the Sokolniki Park, and their sculptures are installed in Ramenki District in Moscow.
Khitruk also had a visit to Walt Disney Animation Studios one time, where he met Wolfgang Reitherman, the director of Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day that won the 1968 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. He told him that he liked the Soviet version better than his own. And I can see why, this version of Pooh is really unique. Winnie is portrayed here as not stupid, per se, but he is pretty eccentric when compared to the likes of Piglet and Rabbit. It takes a special combination of imagination and insanity to try to disguise yourself from bees using only some mud and a blue balloon. But acts quite jerk-ish in these shorts (towards Piglet and Rabbit). On the other hand, he still rushes to give Eeyore the present on his birthday. He spends most of the scenes where he is traveling from place to place straddling the line between singing and screaming. His feet are not directly attached to his body.
The animation is also simple, but it fits well with the environment, the backgrounds are appreciative, as they are actually drawn with crayon.
Overall, this is an interesting adaptation of Winnie the Pooh. It keeps the Pooh spirit, but is still different from the Disney stuff, and the effort is definitely admirable. Definitely check the trilogy out if your curious!

Exploring the Hidden Signs of Orlando's Rich History
Tumblr media
Orlando, Florida, is known worldwide as the ultimate family vacation destination, home to iconic theme parks like Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. However, beyond the glittering facades and thrilling rides, Orlando hides a treasure trove of historical signs that reveal its fascinating past. In this blog, we will embark on a journey to uncover the hidden signs of Orlando's rich history, shedding light on the city's diverse heritage, innovation, and resilience.
1. Signs of Indigenous Heritage
Before Orlando became a bustling metropolis, it was inhabited by indigenous peoples. To find signs of Orlando's indigenous history, look no further than the Timucua Indian Mounds. Located in the Lake County region, these mounds are tangible signs of the native Timucua tribe's presence in the area. While the mounds are a testament to their ancient culture, Orlando's modern-day Seminole Tribe continues to preserve their heritage, offering visitors glimpses of their traditions and history.
2. Signposts to Early Settlements
Orlando's roots as a European settlement trace back to the 19th century when it was a hub for cattle ranching and citrus groves. Signs of this era can be found in historic neighborhoods like Thornton Park, which boasts charming brick streets and well-preserved architecture. These neighborhoods are living signs of Orlando's evolution from a small agricultural town to a vibrant urban center.
3. Signs of Innovation and Progress
Orlando has played a pivotal role in shaping the modern world through its contributions to the field of aviation and space exploration. The Kennedy Space Center, just a short drive from Orlando, is a prime example. Its towering rockets and spacecraft are undeniable signs of human achievement, carrying our dreams of exploring the cosmos. Moreover, the nearby Cape Canaveral Air Force Station is another signpost of technological advancement and innovation.
4. Signs of Civil Rights Struggles
Orlando, like many cities in the United States, has witnessed its share of civil rights struggles. The Wells' Built Museum of African American History and Culture serves as an important signpost to the African American community's history and their fight for equality. The museum is located in the historic neighborhood of Parramore, which itself bears the signs of resilience and progress as it continues to evolve.
5. Signs of Natural Beauty
Orlando's history isn't just about human achievement; it's also deeply intertwined with the natural world. The clear, pristine waters of the Wekiva River and the lush beauty of the surrounding Wekiva Springs State Park are signs of Florida's untouched wilderness. These natural signs provide a stark contrast to the urban hustle and bustle and offer a glimpse into the region's ecological history.
6. Signs of Entertainment Culture
Orlando's entertainment industry has left an indelible mark on the city's history. While the theme parks are the most obvious signs of this influence, there are other, more hidden signs scattered throughout the city. For example, the former site of the iconic Rosie O'Grady's Good Time Emporium, a vaudeville-style cabaret, is a hidden sign of Orlando's entertainment heritage. Today, it serves as a testament to the city's ability to adapt and thrive in the ever-changing world of entertainment.
As we explore these signs of Orlando's rich history, it becomes evident that the city's story is one of diversity, resilience, and progress. The signs may be subtle, tucked away in quiet neighborhoods or displayed proudly in museums, but they all contribute to the tapestry of Orlando's past and present.
Conclusion
Orlando, Florida, is a city of many faces, and its history is equally multifaceted. By paying attention to the hidden signs of Orlando's rich history, we can gain a deeper appreciation for the city beyond its famous theme parks. From indigenous heritage to civil rights struggles, from natural beauty to technological innovation, these signs tell a story of a city that has evolved and thrived in the face of change. So, next time you visit Orlando, take a moment to seek out these signs and immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of history that makes this city truly unique. Orlando's history is waiting to be discovered, and its signs are ready to guide you on a fascinating journey through time.

The Spirit of Disney(Short Story)
Once long ago 3 men had a dream, a wish to bring laughter and joy to the children of the world,
They had discovered from another, moving drawings called animation and the one named Walt saw its potential, he became enamored by these moving pictures, creating things with his brother, and friend who aided him,
Eventually, the 3 in a shed dubbed their work as The Disney Studios and a tiny spark was born, she was fragile, but like Hope she was strong,
A massive blow had hurt her, left her more weak then the spark had ever felt, and then a Mouse appeared, he was mischievous and chaotic, surely he wouldn't be able to make children laugh, but to her surprised the dear children embraced this tiny mouse, laughing at his Antics, she felt more alive then ever before, she thought this could not be even better then now,
But the one human Walt was up to his old crazy ideas once more, he had a wish and this would be fulfilled with Hardwork, she heard them scoff and scorn, but soon he was dancing with a princess and showing how this Animation could invoke the very emotions even in Adults,
Day by Day year by year she grew and grew she was there watching and waiting until she had just enough to show herself, and that day would come in 1955, the peak of these happy and jovial times, when the Park opened,
Walt would be the first to spot her, he knew she was not of their world, he was the first to dub her the Soul of Disney, he would see her 3 more times each time she seemed to have more and more children trailing and playing around her,
Roy would see her only once in 1967 after his brother's death, realizing his brother saying the Parks had a Soul was not just a metaphor, it was reality,
Ub would be the last, his sketch of her thought to have inspired the looks of the fairy godmother up till the Enchantress, a lovely lady in white with sparkling blonde hair, a golden glow like the magic that Tinkerbell uses,
More and more people would catch a glimpse of the Spirit of Disney
So if you're ever feeling lucky, tune yourself into her energy and see if you too can spot the Spirit of Disney trailing through the Parks, with her gaggle of children following behind,

This park offers that and much more. Radiator Springs Racers in Cars Land is a particular favorite, recreating the animated world of Lightning McQueen and his friends.
2. Universal Studios Hollywood: Dive into the Movies
Ever wanted to step into your favorite movie or TV show? Universal Studios Hollywood lets you do just that. Your family vacation in California becomes an exciting journey into the world of cinema when you're at this park.
First up is the legendary Studio Tour. It's not just a ride but a fascinating journey behind the scenes of some of Hollywood’s most famous films and shows. Narrated by the hilarious Jimmy Fallon, this tour takes you through real movie sets, from the devastating plane crash of War of the Worlds to the quaint neighborhood of Desperate Housewives.
But that’s not all! Dive into the magical Wizarding World of Harry Potter where every alley, shop, and nook echoes the stories of Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Grab a butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks, shop for wands at Ollivanders, and brace yourself for the thrills of the Forbidden Journey ride.
3. SeaWorld San Diego: Marine Life at its Best
For families who hold a deep appreciation for the mysteries of the deep blue, SeaWorld in San Diego becomes an underwater odyssey. Your family vacation in California finds a touch of aquatic magic here, blending education, conservation, and sheer entertainment.
Begin your journey with the mesmerizing Orca Encounter, where these majestic creatures showcase their natural behaviors in an amphitheater setting. It's a mix of awe and understanding, a testament to the bond between humans and marine life.
Kids especially adore the Sesame Street Bay of Play. This colorful, vibrant play area is packed with rides, shows, and, of course, the lovable characters from Sesame Street. It’s a delightful break for the little ones to run, play, and meet their favorite characters.
Last but not least, SeaWorld isn’t just about shows and rides. It’s also a place of learning and conservation. The Turtle Reef offers a close-up look at endangered sea turtles, while the Shark Encounter takes you through an underwater tunnel, surrounded by these magnificent predators.
4. LEGOLAND California Resort: A Builder’s Paradise
Located in the scenic city of Carlsbad, LEGOLAND California Resort transforms every brick lover's dream into reality. If your family vacation in California includes budding architects or LEGO aficionados, this is your go-to place.
Miniland USA is one of the park’s standout attractions. Imagine walking through miniaturized versions of America’s most iconic cities, all constructed from over 32 million LEGO bricks! From the skylines of New York City to the lively spirit of Las Vegas, this area perfectly captures the essence of these cities.
Another not-to-be-missed attraction is the LEGO NINJAGO World. Here, kids (and kids-at-heart) can put their ninja skills to the test with interactive games, rides, and challenges. The centerpiece, LEGO NINJAGO: The Ride, lets guests harness the power of the elements to defeat villains.
Lastly, for those looking to cool off, the LEGOLAND Water Park offers a splashing good time. With slides, lazy rivers, and wave pools, it's a LEGO-themed oasis for the entire family.
5. Knott’s Berry Farm: Fun for the Thrill-Seekers
Knott’s Berry Farm, located in Buena Park, seamlessly blends the charm of its historic past with heart-pounding modern attractions, making it a must-visit during your family vacation in California.
Ghost Town is a step back into the Wild West, complete with cowboys, a steam train, and an old schoolhouse. Every nook and cranny tells tales of yesteryears. For those seeking a dose of adrenaline, head over to HangTime, California's first and only dive coaster. This roller coaster simulates a wave about to crash, with a beyond-vertical drop, making it an absolute thrill.
But if you're traveling with younger kids, don't fret. Camp Snoopy caters specifically to the little adventurers. With over 12 rides, large play areas, and frequent appearances by Snoopy and his pals, it’s a delightful world of its own.
6. Six Flags Magic Mountain: For the Adrenaline Junkies
Thrills, chills, and spills: that's what Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia promises. Just north of Los Angeles, it's an adrenaline-packed haven, with some of the fastest, tallest, and wildest rides in the world, perfect for a thrilling family vacation in California.
X2 is a favorite for many. It’s a multi-dimensional coaster that doesn't just go up, down, and around, but spins on its axis, offering an unpredictable journey each time. Then there’s Goliath, a hypercoaster that boasts an impressive 255-foot drop at speeds of up to 85 mph. It's not for the faint of heart but guarantees an unforgettable experience with Dreams Wishes Travel.
For those looking for something a tad less intense, the park offers plenty of family-friendly rides. The Bugs Bunny World, for instance, is a haven for youngsters. With gentle coasters, carousels, and interactive play areas, it ensures everyone, irrespective of age, has a fantastic time.
7. California’s Great America: A Blend of Classic and Modern
Situated in Santa Clara, California’s Great America marries the charm of classic amusement park attractions with the innovations of today, making it a superb destination for your family vacation in California.
Patriot, the park's floorless coaster, provides a unique sensation as you twist, turn, and loop with nothing beneath your feet but the clear California sky. The exhilarating drops and spirals give thrill-seekers exactly what they crave.
For a gentler touch of nostalgia, the Carousel Columbia awaits. As the world’s tallest double-decker carousel, it not only offers delightful rides to a classic tune but also panoramic views of the entire park.
Don't forget to explore Planet Snoopy, dedicated to the younger crowd. Filled with rides themed after the beloved Peanuts characters, it's a world where childhood imagination reigns supreme.
