i don’t understand the insistence media outlets have with assigning carlos the role of the underdog when the only reason he’s been second to charles has been his own performance. carlos is the one with the family wealth and the influential father in motorsport. he comes from a larger country than charles which means the pool of fans who would root for him is larger. everything is set up in his favour, there is barely a narrative to build here. “he came into charles’ team :((” yeah and he’s been consistently beaten in quali and race h2h of course ferrari are sticking with charles

charles is ferrari’s homegrown champion because he swept the junior series and he’s consistently showing great things. trying to usurp someone who has rightly earned their position is not justice, it’s schadenfreude

I think I’m going to take a crack at watching war for cybertron again even though it’s……. I didn’t make it past the second episode. It was the first tf show I tried to watch after rewatching prime and it really isn’t the show to get someone into the wider scape of transformers media. But I really, really like how they set up Elita’s character in it. Being my first introduction to her at all, wfc really shaped how I interpret all her other characterizations and I am very attached to that interpretation. I don’t even know how many episodes she has in wfc but I am willing to watch the whole series just to revisit her.

I was listening to something earlier and this idea about who is or isn't afforded the right of context came up. I'm not going to discuss politics on this blog, but that's where it came from.

And it's a really intriguing thought. It made me think of some tags I wrote earlier today. Because even in this little microcosm of Only Friends fandom, this plays out. Other people and other characters are allowed to improve, but never TopMew or FB. People hold on to these ideas about FB as actors or TopMew as characters and never afford them the right of context. They have been caricatured and de-humanized. (oxford definition is "deprived of positive human qualities" and webster's "deprive of human qualities, personality, and dignity." I think the first one applies more to TopMew and the second to FB.)

And there is misinformation and outright disinformation going on. Here's looking at you selective screencappers because guess what? Anyone can check which parts you omitted and people do notice when you remove the lines that make your character look bad or paint them in a bad light. Or sarcastic, they are so good at giving us nothing 🥰 bad faith takes. And normally, I try to be unbothered but there was a post about Mew's moms and they got caricatured too! And now instead of a warm and loving home, he has two moms who don’t care about him and it was made to sound like how amazing this was that it was creator's intent, which is a bold fucking statement to make without a single lick of support to show, but it wasn't commentary on all of the OF parents, it was only about Mew's moms.

At this point, it's just actual propaganda now that's happening.
