Okay the animation. THE ANIMATION MEDIUMS. So many cool methods. I loved the colour changes in Gwen's universe. HOBIE'S ENTIRE THING, THE WAY HE'S ANIMATED OMG

Mumbattan is such a cool city, I love mashing irl cities to make one cool megacity so much it's such a lil fave worldbuilding thing of mine

Pavitr is so great, I love him, idek how to talk about him I just like him a lot. Him and his gf make such a cute pair too!

Also him saying "I don't use product, just coconut oil, prayer, and good genetics". I love him

The chai tea scene. God he's so great

THe character design is amazing and sososososo cool!! I love that we see the characters change (Gwen's hair growing longer and pinker, Miles' growth spurt, Peter B.'s bathrobe, MAYDAY's LIL SPIDER HAT THAT MJ PROLLY MADE FOR HER).

I love Pravitr's costume glowup. Thank you to whoever arranged for that.

Also, Hobie??? His lace coded boots?? His locs??? HIS FUCKING PIERCINGSSS??? HOW HE COMPARED A FUCKING VOID TO CAPITALISM??? Him taking a liking to Mayday, and straight up SHOWING MILES HOW TO GET OUT OF THE FORCE FIELD WITH A LIL SMIRK?!!! I need him. Need his gender. I love his anarchist ass.

His design really calls back to the punk scene in England, and I love the way he reminds me of old newspapers

Also Hobie and Gwen make such a funny friendship. But I don't ship them.

The themes of growing up, and Miles' parents being worried about Miles and the people he's with...I nearly cried in the theatre, and I don't normally cry during stuff.

You can just tell that black people were making the big decisions for this movie. Aaron and Rio asking Miles why he took the braids out. Jeff and Rio being like "On time means 5 minutes early", I felt so at home watching this movie. I'm not even from Brooklyn but I just felt so at home at all the interactions Miles had with his neighbors. Even the random storeowner.

Like ppl were speaking aave, using patois, Hobie's accent. And none of that was played for laughs (except for Hobie's lingo but that's a little different bc he's British)

I love how Miles' Ganke is so different from Peter Parker's Ganke. It's such a fun detail how Miles' Ganke was like "I'm not gonna be your guy in the chair".

I love that despite the general "Canon" for Spider Man, there are some differences! I love those intricate details!

And the way the lady in the office was so hasty to force the narrative of them "struggling" when that really wasn't the case? Hit real close to home. I just love the Davis-Morales family

I love the way that the Spot isn't like a general "mildly bad" villain like I originally assumed. I really thought he'd be kind of a "setup" villain, or something that they'd have to clean up and THEN Miles would take care of Miguel and them.

I especially love the way that The Spot is someone from the first movie, who we don't even know until his backstory is brought up.

His voice is also perfect too. He sounds like a complete loser.

No For real though, he talks a lot of shit about Miles being "The Original anomaly" when his ass needs to inject himself with some kinda spider-fluid to maintain his powers??? Mind you, he tried to force himself into a reality that wasn't his.

On the subject of the Spider Verse I think it's so cool how there were so many callbacks to the original canon of Spiderman! I loved seeing the og live action Spider Men in the film too!

And the easter eggs! I couldn't keep up with them all!

Also, wtf was Childish Gambino there. I mean I'm not mad, I actually found Miles' staring at him really funny

But in all seriousness, all the feelings in the movie talked about and the the things left unresolved for the next movie is just. You can tell this was such a labour of love and all the animators were so happy and excited to work on it. I cannot wait for Beyond the Spider Verse!! I'm still buzzing!!

hi hi, posting an ask to clarify a few things: apparently the budgets for v9 and the JL league were separate and the real reason for v9's delay was the transition to working at home at covid. i dont like spreading misinformation (good lord the rwby fanbase has enough of it already) so i think this was fair to bring up. while i dont doubt the validity of the animators who worked on v9 and the JL cross over, i can't help but to feel weary due to the fact that this is freaking roosterteeth. a company notorious for their abuse of animators to the point of disability, how their shows are produced on slave labour, how they abuse their starry eye fans for cheap labour, how the higher ups of the company are very much either incompetent or rotten to the core. how can i in good conscious give this company the benefit of the doubt that the JL crossover didnt went through the same crunch or workplace issues? sure the animators got more worked, but were you guys properly paid for it? arianna fillipini's twitlonger details the MASSIVE amount of crunch (50 hr/weeks), how the pay was still below industry standard, how the leadership in v9 didnt help the animators, how everyone got laid off cus RT taking away full time employment, and this was all during VOLUME 9. something produced in 2020-2021, not 5 years ago. im glad the animators got a year of work, im glad they had an opportunity to network with other artists. im not upset that the JL happened, im worried that the same crunch and workplace abuse from v9 was carried over as a consequences of these crossovers being developed in house. while its really dumb to knowingly spread misinformation of RWBY's budget and production, i cant help feel this uneasiness towards every rwby fan on twitter just taking their word that the JL was 'totally a good thing!!!' and anyone upset by how they assumed that the JL took away resources for v9 (because it happened to v6 with gray smuggling money for gen:lock) are 'stupid little haters who use the poor animators at cudgels to flame roosterteeth!!!' am i supposed to trust the notion that suddenly all of the decades workplace abuse and mistreatment that persisted to it's latest season all went away? that suddenly the animators were given enough time and compensation for their work? that suddenly management became leagues better? suddenly all of our concerns towards the production of RT's shows and RT as a company are nonsensical? idk, the entire thing is really weird and the uneasiness i have towards CRWBY's production isnt exactly alleviated by the fact that the JL had a seperate budget :P at least we got to see the beacon designs again 🥃

@unovaslankiite your concerns are completely valid and you're not wrong feeling this way. Even if the budgets for vol 9 and JL were separate, that doesn't make what the animators revelaed just last year what they've been through all go away. Ar*yn Tr*che (who I personally belive is an RT shill so they can keep their job) should not be treated as the only source of info. Their words mean nothing to me. Like, ok, the JL and vol 9 budgets were separate. That doesn't excuse the animation department having to work double time during covid. Yeah you want to ensure they got work, and yet they were snubbed of their overtime pay.

And you're right, why should any of us believe Rooster Teeth? They've been proven over and over again to be liars, and it really isn't hard to notice the patterns of behavior over the years. They said crunch issues in production have been resolved and that was a fucking lie. The cuts to vol 9 and the production of the JL movie sound very similar to what happened to vol 5 when Gen Lock was being made. So people are right to assume the crossover movie affected vol 9.

Pointing all of this out doesn't make you "a bad faith rwby critic" or "wanting to pin blame on crwby" as some stans like to accuse others of. People like you and I are not content with just taking Ar*yn and K*rry's words at face value so they can continue to bury the truth. The stans who try to convince themselves that MKEK and the vas of crwby are separate from RT just want to ease their guilty conscious in wanting to continue to consume rwby content.

That's why they spam #greenlightvol10 on every rwby related post they make. It's a sign of sheer copium.

holy shit this movie was amazing.

welcome back to me watching all the trolls movies in (almost) one sitting with breaks in between to process the colorful trip I'm on rn

TROLLS 2 WAS VERY GOOD

from the great writing in the world building, themes and characters, designs and sound of the other trolls and generally this movie being short but fun makes it a blast to watch

so I'd give it a 9/10 which makes this the best trolls movie out of the whole trilogy

now onto my thoughts

• so first off let's talk about my main man branch

did ever mention how I love this guy?? 😊

but what I love most is him in this movie because wow this man is head over heels for poppy lmao

and ofc there's some other stuff but let's talk broppy for a bit

so I already watched trolls 3 so ik how branch and poppy's relationship looks like in the future but this movie is also an important step in their relationship because there's a massive problem here :

poppy does not listen to anybody.

"I've always been by your side since the moment I've met you" - poppy (trolls 3)

while that is true here it's more like branch goes along with wtv poppy's doing because he's absolutely smitten and so he ends up doing all the listen and bending to what poppy wants while she doesn't give back any of that to branch or anyone else around her

one of the turning points for branch in the movie is after they go to the funk kingdom but the seeds to that change are planted when hickory tells branch that he's doing all the listening not poppy

so they argue and get separated until they reunite at the end of the movie

but that's more for when I talk about poppy and oh boy do I have some things to say. . .

I also like that, contrary to poppy's kind of judgy reaction to the other trolls, branch is all for the music trolls' lifestyles and music

it's shown more in the dance battle between the kpop and the reggaeton trolls but there's also a comment he makes when he hears the sad country song at lonesome flats

"It's kind of sad, but life is sad sometimes. So, I kind of like it."

meanwhile poppy immediately thinks that the country trolls are miserable and don't know how to have fun

but again that's for when I get into poppy's turn 😒

which speaking of.....

• I wanna say that I am by no means a poppy hater

that said this girl has been on my NERVES for the majority of this movie (WHICH IS A GOOD THING!!)

so when poppy gets told about the other trolls' existence by her dad she's excited to get them all tgt cuz she thinks barb genuinely wants to unite all trolls and not yk assimilate them or anything

so she sets off on a journey to meet barb, give her the pop string and have a massive party with all the trolls

but really she's not doing this just because of that no no no

poppy's insecure about being a bad queen

and makes it everyone's problem.

because when her, branch and biggie make it to symphonyville, the land of the classical trolls, they're told and literally see the carnage left by barb, poppy's quest changes

now she wants to save everybody and stop barb from turning everyone into rock trolls

because that's what a good queen would do right?? she'd get rid of the problem entirely instead of going back home and protecting her ppl who are literally under her care because that would be giving. up. 🙂

so let's not listen to biggie or branch who are telling her this is a terrible idea because that's simply not what poppy wants to hear since they're against her totally awesome plan

now let's talk about my favorite section of the movie

everyone here looks like they're in a different movie because there's no coherent art direction. why are they wearing clothes. why is the letter W on top of a drop of water—we already know it's a symbol for water, why do we need a redundant W. this is preschool graphic design knowledge. why is the letter W farting on the guy's shirt. why do they like W so much. why is this just zootopia but for amorphous blobs. how is this the promotional image they're releasing. i am going to be such a hater about this movie.

sort of. I asked my mum and she listed a few people but the main one is a very hedonistic character from a book.so that’s a fun role to fill. the other people are a bit more daunting in their accomplishments.

do you have kids?

no and I dont want any.

do you use sarcasm a lot?

not very often, I guess. ive been told I am very difficult to read if im telling a joke or not. especially sarcasm. im mostly sarcastic when im being mean rather than funny. I guess im more likely to be dry?

what's the first thing you notice about people?

I honestly have no clue. definitely not their shoes. and probably not their face because I can never remember what people look like. I sat in a car with my driving instructor for months but could not tell you what he looked like. physically, I probably notice hair and clothes first? but otherwise if im meeting someone new I just notice whether they talk to me or not and how they hold a conversation.

what's your eye color?

blue/green.

scary movies or happy endings?

im a wimp and I dont like scary movies. so I guess I prefer happy endings, although I dont mind some tragedy. for tv I almost exclusively watch comedies. i dont watch a lot of films so i’ll mostly watch what other people want. im a fan of rewatching, so it is rare I will willingly watch something new on my own. as for books, ill read anything! but especially interesting gothic classics and translated books. I like slice of life and anything with great world building. not a huge fan of ya probably because it was all I read when I was younger so I got a bit bored of it.

any special talents?

I never know how to answer that. im decent at various things but nothing in particular. if you showed me a relatively common uk bug I think I would be able to id it.

what are your hobbies?

im into entymology. I like taking pictures of bugs and recording their species. there are other things I do, but im hesitant to call them hobbies because I dont do them that regularly. 

have any pets?

yes! a beautiful, wonderful cat.

what sports do you play/have you played?

I dont play sport regularly. did the usual sports at school. (I did some more interesting stuff but im trying to be humble. im big into baseball - Ive got a batting average of .328, have 118 home runs and batted in 1014 runs. im also in the baseball hall of fame. that’s right guys, im baseball superstar wade boggs. Im a true american - I love baseball and posting on tumblr and my family and beer)

how tall are you?

I honestly dont know. 5 foot something. that should narrow it down. 

favorite subject in school?

I liked english lit in later school. earlier on I liked all the arty stuff best. textiles was a lot of fun but the teacher was a prick. 

dream job?

games design but im shite at coding. :( conservation work would be cool. havent decided yet. when I was a kid I wanted to be a farmer and used to like planning my future farm layout. now I just play stardew valley.

Favorite band/artist: Duh... but before BTS it was a very eclectic mix. Seventies, 80′s, disco, rock, classic rock, alt rock, country, pop, dance, you name it, I have it. From Aerosmith and Alan Jackson to Yes and ZZ Top. 

Last movie: hmmm... hmmm.   (thinks) ... (looks at my netflix saved list, nothing there)... hmm.. (looks at my Apple tv saved list)... OHH!! it was ISLE OF DOGS!!! damn, that was 3 or 4 years ago. An animated movie set in Japan, follows a boy's odyssey in search of his lost dog. It was pretty good in an artsy fartsy, quirky way. I don’t watch movies often. Obviously once every 4 years or longer. 

Last show: Run BTS Telepathy Pt. 1. Before that it was the episode of Our Blues with Jimin’s song With You. I don’t watch television either. Ever. Except that one episode of Our Blues. 

When you created this blog: I think I created it in August of 2021 so it’s been a year. My first post was Oct. 15, 2021. 

What you post: The pandemonium in my head. Whatever is on my mind. I write as a way to get rid of the excess that’s constantly swirling in my brain. And since last summer, my brain has been obsessed with BTS and Jimin, Jungkook and everything surrounding them. Actually, on the outside, I am very calm. But I love words and I like to write and I have a lot to say to no one in particular. HOWEVER! I am also a very very good listener. 

Other blogs: Long forgotten but also served a similar purpose as an outlet for me to express whatever was going on at the time.

Do you get asks: Yes, some of them are actually asks. 

Average hours of sleep: 6. Can function on 5 hours until late afternoon then its downhill from there. My  eyeballs prefer 8 hours but for some reason the rest of my body/brain says nope, too bad.  

Instruments: of creativity. I use instruments of creativity...pencil, brush, filters, words, fonts, colors, all digital of course.

What I’m wearing: oh, dang, I should have changed clothes before sitting down. I am wearing what I wore to work, a pair of skinny black pants and a dark teal t-shirt. With the appropriate undergarments. Barefooted because I kicked off my black leather platform sandals across the room. 

Dream job: Well, actually, I already worked at a few of my dream jobs... retail advertising was my first job out of college so I was exposed to a lot of upscale fashion and whatnot. It was a mixture of fashion illustration and photography. That was a fun job. Then I worked in creative services at a television station where I produced tv commercials. That was fun too. I won awards at that job. I have also worked for another tv production company and traveled a lot. The traveling was fun. Another dream job was working at the biggest ad agency in my city. It turned out to not be quite as fun as I thought it would. It was a good experience (that’s what we say when we are finally free from toxic workplaces but trying to remain positive). Now I am a graphic designer/art director/digital communications manager/video producing jackoff of all trades at a very large non-profit. 

Dream trip: Seoul. Period. I have traveled a lot. When I was young we lived in Canada, Australia, Singapore. I’ve been to 21 states including Hawaii. Multiple times. I’ve visited Japan and the Bahamas. Lived many years in Texas but now Louisiana is my home.

Favorite song: currently its Daydream by J-Hope. But my playlist for fitness walking is: Outro: Ego, Outro: Wings, Trivia: Just Dance, Daydream, Boy With Luv (feat. Halsey), Run BTS (the song), Dope, Boyz with Fun, Dynamite (queen), War of Hormone (don’t judge me). The beats are very crucial to keep up a fast pace. My “just listening for fun” playlist includes Mic Drop (Steve Aoki remix), My Universe (SUGA’s remix only), Airplane Pt. 2, IDOL, Serendipity, Euphoria, Trivia: Seesaw, Magic Shop, Love Maze, Make It Right, HOME, Mikrokosmos, Cypher 4, Baepsae, Daechwita, Base Line, Bad Decisions, Left and Right and others. 

Sidenote: I saw on twitter where Sungwoon will be going to do his military service on Sept. 5 and I almost started crying at work. He was crying on his V Live and I had to turn it off. I don’t even know what he was saying. So when it is the BTS members time to go I am going to be a hot mess.

In case you didn’t know, the trailer for the upcoming JL/RWBY crossover movie just got added to twitter. Namely, it’s on the account for Warner of Europe’s French division. I really liked it, for the most part. The only two things I’m not particularly fond of are 1. Yang is in her Beacon-Era outfit, yet has her prosthetic already, and 2. The design they went with for Flash looks pretty dorky, to say the least. By far my favorite design is Diana’s.

Gonna be honest, I didn't care for the crossover in the first place. It seemed based on the DC comics which I am very confident to say were ass and in fact represent everything that your average RWBY hater says RWBY is.

But the animation looks pretty good and the Justice League sound like the ACTUAL Justice League getting isekai'd into Remnant so that's way more interesting. So I might check it out. ...Pirated.

Also is it me or is Yang's boobs bigger in the movie than in the past few Volumes? I saw this because if they are supposed to be that size but her outfits have been suppressing it- Ow. That has to feel uncomfortable as all hell.

Ash's design in the first movie was not bad at all but i have definitely seen an upgrade in how she expresses her emotions! like

she does look prettier and i have noticed how she wears more feminine makeup 👑🙈 her eyeshadow pops out and even her lips!

i feel like her eyes have gotten lighter a little bit and closer to the end, i feel like she smiles more and she is clearly so much happier around the theater gang

she has certainly went from a “moody teenager” to a happy soul around her family🙈 (especially around buster and i dont blame her) speaking of buster, let’s go to him!

Buster

(haaa i love this guys ENERGY it drives me when im sad just like it drives the whole movie)

Buster’s fur is something i really noticed that has improved in the next movie! x

this adorably goofy koala’s fur looks so much softer and you can see almost every strand of hair that he has on his little face! and from the first movie, 

i feel like more mass/volume has been added to him.✨ you can see how his cheeks/face don’t really touch the collar of his shirt and you can kind of almost see his neck/chest. but in the next movie, his cheeks are touching his shoulders and you can’t really see much of his chest. the animation is so spectacular already but for the second movie, they have definitely upgraded A LOT! (he always had chubby cheeks in the first movie, but they added more cheeks to my baby🙈)

yes, i feel like i see more volume in Buster Moon x

edit: i dont know if it is just me, but in the last gif here, i feel like buster has put on weight😂🙈

i feel that Rosita has put on more makeup in the second movie as well like Meena!

and Rosita has always been smaller than Gunter in the first movie but in this scene she looks even smaller

i dont really have much to say about Rosita but i am sure her lips and skin look smoother and... even her snout!🙈x

so in the first movie, i can clearly see that he looks younger and his fur is more rough, like Buster.

he has clearly gotten older in the next movie and looks softer to the touch!

for Gunter’s design, i feel that his face is a lot smaller in the first movie haha!!

but in the next movie, his face/cheeks have clearly gotten larger! same thing with Buster, Gunter has definitely had more volume and mass added to him!

edit: it cant be just me, i feel like gunter has put on weight!

OK, some off the cuff opinions on Doctor Who Flux part one.

Chris Chibnall is clearly going all-in. This one episode had more mad creativity than the two seasons of the show he's run. If the rest of the series had been this good, I expect it would have shut everyone up.

They've done a very good job of keeping news of the series slipping out - ironically, the biggest leak came from hater of spoilers Moffat, who accidentally let it slip over the summer that the Weeping Angels would be back in the story. I suspect we'll be seeing QUITE a few surprises over the next six weeks, all feeding into the final movie-length specials that will end both Chris and Jodie's run on the series.

It looks like we got our "All girl TARDIS episode" after all. Dan didn't really get to DO anything this episode - it was mostly Yaz and The Doctor clearly in the kind of sync of two people who have been doing this for some time.  So while it would have been neat to have gotten a complete story on their own, obviously the structure of this season precluded that. But what we got was cherce. And in a couple years we can enjoy a series of two of Jodie and Mandip doing Big Finish adventures of that period.

Oh good lord, he's still going on about The Division. But, note that he did NOT mention The Timeless Child. And while I find the idea that there's more of The Doctor's history out there that we've not heard about (Find me someone that didn;t want Six Seasons And A Movie the moment you saw Jo Martin all Doctored Up, I dare you), I can completely accept another retcon about The Timeless Child, for reasons I've on about before.  I am still hoping to the faint hope that Season 6B will save us all.

I like The Swarm. The design is nice...maybe a BIT too much glitter on his sister. But I liked the idea of bringing in a villain on The master's level that she can't remember.  It seems passably clear to me that he'll end up being Jo Martin's Doctor's enemy, which just increases the chance that we'll see her more in this series.

Dan seems a nice bloke - happy to help his fellow people, too proud to take charity, and able to not wet himself when presented with an alien race.

But having said that, I currently care more about Claire than I do Dan. Yes, I can already hear people calling her "Sally Sparrow II" already, and I expect the next week will be chock-a-block with clever theories (I can't be the only person whose mind reeled when she said she was going home "The long way round") but clearly there More To Come with her. Same too for Dan’s Not Girlfriend, who is clearly being set up as a plot point as well.

Day 27 of 28 Days of Honoring Black Queens… miss Manifestion herself…Keke Palmer

Born August 26, 1993…Keke “Keep a Check Coming” Palmer has to be by far one the best and most successful stars out. I am so glad I grew up watching her, she is definitely one of my favorite actresses, singer, dancer, and lit queen. I am legit manifesting a friendship with Keke, she has to be the most down to earth and realest celeb out!! Everything she does is amazing and blessed. She is an activist and she cares about her community. If you don’t love Keke, you definitely a hater because she is phenomenal on and off screen.

Keke’s talent is beyond amazing and her cleverness when it comes to line delivery is unbelievably amazing. As someone that will be working in television and film one day, I would love to work with Keke. She can do comedy, drama, musicals, even action. Sis is a multitalented actress. Don’t even get me started on her amazing music…check out my girl music.

Keke is only 28 and has already have had iconic roles and is still having iconic roles coming to her. She will definitely be remembered as Hollywood royalty. When it comes to film she is best known for her role in Akeelah and the Bee as titular character Akeelah, Joyful Noise, Jump In, The Longshots, Pimp, Hustlers, Rags, and many more. When it comes to television she is best known for her iconic role as teen designer True Jackson in True Jackson, VP (I use to wear the true Jackson collection), Star, Winx Club, Scream Queens, Scream: TV Series, and many more. She even had her own talk show!! She is currently starring in The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder and she has two new movies coming out soon…Alice & Nope!!

Keke is out of this world!! I am ready to see what the future holds. Always rooting for you.

just read scorsese's piece on marvel and he really articulated what my problem w marvel movies is... and i'm not an expert at all, i mean i've only done a class in my life that touched a bit on movie analysis and one of my fave movies is mamma mia. but the thing about marvel is that they're movies whose primarily intent is to make money. that's it! there's no artistic intent, no sociopolitical commentary, nothing! it's the capitalization of art! it's awful!!! (also, these movies are full of propaganda and the idealization of the military is another can of worms). secondly, the way the audience interacts with this movies ends up being super fandom-y, the only thing people get out of it is cheap entertainment. and they're fun movies to watch from time to time but if u only consume this kind of content ur rotting ur own brain. (exactly the same way if u just read ya when you're meant to read adult. but that's another thing). n e ways sorry for this rant hgjgkjhg

First off, I want to say that no one should ever apologize to me for sending blocks of text on film. Like I said... that’s literally the person I want to be to everyone who follows this blog. The one who answers your thoughts on film with occasionally coherent ideas and concepts, no matter how long or rambling the ask is! Loved opening my inbox to see this <3

Scorsese’s piece on Marvel, as I have articulated to literally everyone who knows me to their increasing annoyance, is quite probably my favourite critique of Marvel movies and it was my launching point to realize I actually didn’t like the MCU. (I am just a mirrorball but that’s for another time. No one wants to hear my MCU story from hater to super fan to disillusioned fan back to hater.) 

If anyone hasn’t read it, I am once again going to link it here. But to summarize: Scorsese argues that Marvel movies are more like theme parks because they remove the aspect of risk from filmmaking, they’re all essentially the same, and saturating the market with them is having an adverse effect on how people perceive and interact with film. 

Which is all to say that I completely agree with the points you’re making with this ask. Marvel movies are structured to be as inoffensive as possible while still being appealing, they contain no meaningful messaging, and they’re designed to be entertaining and make money. (Being entertaining has... varying degrees of success but they do make gobs of money.) Like you said, the military propaganda is a whole other minefield but it really does underscore how much these films suck as works of art.

My school of thought regarding how fandom relates to film consumption (God, that sounds pretentious, I’m so sorry) is that while fandom is fun, it typically robs people of meaningfully engaging with the source material. Fandom, at least to me, seems to be about pulling memorable moments and finding ships from Marvel films rather than analyzing the content of these films at all. Granted, the analysis one can do on a Marvel film is unbelievably limited, so I completely understand the approach people take. 

When people engage with the MCU, what they want (and what they nearly always get) is decent entertainment. It’s the film equivalent of eating fast food all the time—it’s occasionally enjoyable, but letting that be all you consume has super adverse effects. (For food, you get sick, and with Marvel movies, you lose perception of cinema as an art.)

It can definitely also be compared to only reading YA, but that’s a separate rant and this answer is already an ungodly length.

Doug Holt from Inventing the Abbotts

I've been thinking a lot about that too. It sucks that whenever a marginalized group enters the mainstream media, it's done in ways that lack forethought and consideration. It's done in a way that pleases the majority, not their subject matter. Usually gonna be a violent, sad story. Lesbians enjoying that post sex after glow? Why not show them cuddling. Sharing their dreams, hopes, and aspirations? Haha nope. They're not straight, silly. Network execs/producers/ audiences can't relate to wholesome wlw content. Make sure one of them gets murdered so we understand what she truly meant to her.

Granted I didn't watch the 100, and I'm definitely not saying that portraying violence against marginalized groups doesn't have a place (historical movies) . I'm just saying it doesn't need to be used to make your characters deeper. Especially when the rep in the category is already so lacking.

Which makes me even more upset at she-ra haters, who love the fact that Mattel has picked up the old she-ra design for the new dolls. You know it's not JUST because they don't like the designs. They hate what the show stands for. And while it sounds like a great time to stand around and be bitter about strong women, diverse body types, and POC; I'm too busy having an AMAZING time knowing children will grow up having more WHOLESOME representations of different groups of people. Esp LGBTQIPOC rep. And best of all? Most of it is ANIMATED!!

Also if you haven't, give Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts a shot.
