okAY yes i have many thoughts abt adhd max i am vibrating rn

okay so first of all theres the average well known "flappy hands"

but she really likes it when she has sweaters with longer sleeves because then she can just flap them around

she doesnt have many vocal stims but she goes "ba ba ba" or just humming and singing sometimes

also running her hand on the bottom of her skateboard, and/or rolling the wheels

just being on her skateboard and swaying is a huge stim

im also gonna say that she also stims by pressing on buttons and other stuff in the arcade. its just Nice To Do

also stims by kicking off of the ground on her skateboard. very nice

she had adhd combined (like yours truly) and finds it hard to concentrate in class

she totally hyperfixated on video games at some point

she is a VERY picky eater. like she could barely eat stuff in california, so when she moves to hawkins it only gets worse

that being said she cant STAND the silence and always needs background noise (she and el bond over liking white noise from tv)

lucas is super understanding of her stims

he learnt to recognize when she's understimulated and gives her fidget toys!! and if he doesnt have any then he'll just straight up grab her hand and start rubbing his fingers against the knuckles

Have you ever felt a baby kick? I might have when my mom was pregnant with my brother, but I don’t remember.

What color pants/shorts are you wearing? I’m wearing black leggings.

When is the last time you did something truly fun, and what was it? My Disneyland trip back in February. It still trips me out that was this year, it feels like forever ago and SO much changed shortly after. It’s wild.

What was the scariest moment of your life? I’ve had more than one, but some were pre-surgery fears. It’s a very scary time and my mind always went to the worst places. My surgeries were long and invasive, too. During one of them my blood pressure dropped really low and my body was just in freakout mode for a few days after the surgery. Like, I had to have a few EKGs and a cardiologist check me out cause my heart rate was high (the EKGs came back fine, though, and the cardiologist couldn’t find anything wrong) and they were worried about my kidneys at one point. I think my body was just under a lot of stress from the type of surgery and the conditions beforehand (I had been sick for one, but also the prep required being totally cleaned out and I think I was dehydrated because of that).

What kind of computer are you on? I’m on my Macbook Air.

What is the worst thing you've ever done when you were really angry?I just get really frustrated and upset and I shut down and cry. Are there any pills you take on a daily basis? If so, what? My pain medication. And for the next 10 days this antibiotic. It’s bad because I’ve had it since yesterday for an infection I’ve had for at least two weeks that we know of and the reason why I’ve been feeling sick, but I’ve yet to take it. :X I can’t be a normal human who can take pills, I have to crush mine and I’m dreading how horrible that’s going to be. I’m used to my pain medication at this point and it’s not really that bad. But more than that, it has to be spaced apart from my pain medication because it possibly can increase the intensity of my pain med, potentially causing breathing problems, so I’m like oh yay that sounds fun. Sigh. My doctor insists it’s fine, especially with my dosage, but it was scary to find that out. It’ll most likely be fine, but I’ve gotten so paranoid about stuff in recent years that I didn’t used to be about before. I want to start feeling better, but ugh. :/ I’m gonna take the plunge in like an hour.

Do you like the smell of coconuts? I do. Not the taste, though.

What is the heaviest you think you can lift? 5lbs? haha.

Do you take Tums? Nah, I just take Pepto. I’ve taken them in the past, but they’re chalky and disgusting and sometimes made me gag, so bleh. Apart from their intended purposes, it had been recommended to me by a doctor to take them for increasing calcium cause they have a lot of that, but yeah I didn’t do that much.

Have you ever walked on a pier at the beach? Yes.

How about under one? No.

At what age do you first remember feeling butterflies in your stomach around someone? I think when I was like 9.

Do you feel that way around anyone now? No. It’s been a few years since I’ve felt that or had feelings for anyone in the romantic sense. What does that feel like again?

What are the best things to put in a smoothie? I’m a very simple gal, I just liked strawberries and bananas. Unless I went to Jamba Juice where they add stuff and you can add extras like a protein or caffeine shot or something.

What do you dislike most about where you live right now? My city is crappy.

Are you watching your weight? I need to be gaining weight, I’ve needed to for the past few years now, but I’ve been unsuccessful.

Have you ever become really good friends with someone you found online? Yes. I used to have several close online friends back in the day. Also, I personally love our little survey community on here. We support each other in some way or another and keep up with each other’s lives through our surveys.

What makes your best friend your best friend? She’s my mom and my rock and has always been there for me. I couldn’t do it without her.

Nancy Drew #33 Midnight in Salem Game Review

So I gave in and paid the damn $30 to play the dribble that HER's pawning off as their latest game. While there has been major controversy within the fandom over the latest Nancy Drew Game and HerInteractive in general, I'm going to stick to just the game here. My thoughts and opinions on how HER managed the fandom after Penny Miliken came onto the scene have been made clear on my sh!tposts on my blog lol. So we're talking just the game here, nothing pre-start menu - that includes real world HerInteractive drama, none of that. So let's begin...

The Start Menu - Tbh I hated the start menu. It was like a FNAF game's opening menu, clearly made in Unity and the grass textures were nightmarish. If this were my first Nancy Drew game and this was the first sight I saw upon booting the game up, I would never buy another one again.

Voice Acting - Now before ya'll go off on "That's just your nostalgia talking, give it a chance" I will have you know that I tried, I really really tried to like the new voice actress for Nancy but ugh I can't stand it. She sounds like someone pretending to be Olivia Benson off Law & Order: SVU. Like I get they wanted Nancy to sound more like a modern teenager and less "Barbie voice" like Lani's voice would stray towards but letting go of Lani was their biggest mistake. If they had kept Lani as Nancy's voice - especially for such a drastically different game setup - would have helped keep fans fixed within the Nancy Drew world that we've been following for years. Everyone else was great, I especially liked Mei and Lauren's voices and the emotions expressed within them. Also Tourist Girl outside of the Town Hall needs to be brought back in the next game and have her lines recorded on actual recording equipment because what you did HerInteractive was hysterically pathetic and unfair. I don't know if that was a place holder that got overlooked or what but for a $30 game released by a company with so many quality games under it's belt - I expect better.

Storyline - Was pretty good. Fire, robberies, political unrest, sabotage, fraud, hidden wills, all things we've seen before a dozen times but they never get old. I think it's safe to say that the storyline itself is actually what kept me playing, however about half way through I did know it was one of two suspects who was the villian and the very next reveal ensured me which one it was. Still though good story.

Script - Whoever was in charge of the character conversations, for the love of all that is holy please water the interactions down! I felt like 99% of the game was never ending conversations about crap that wasn't useful to the plot. Like filler and fluff is great but conversations that drag on and on and on aren't fun. Have a character say a line or two, then it's Nancy's turn - all this monologuing has me flying through conversations just so I can move onto the next thing. Also some of the way the lines are written make it hard for the actors to read and sound authentic. Like "I can not." (versus "I can't.") levels of unauthentic lines.

Characters - Loved the different characters, would have appreciated more that had models you could interact with.

Puzzles - Needed way more puzzles. Like WAY more. It felt like there was less than 10 puzzles in the game and the majority were stupid easy, the only 'difficult' ones were easy once you understood what they wanted you to do which for some reason wasn't made clear at the start of the puzzle.

Mini Games - Loved making Johnny Cakes and mixing herbs.

Graphics - Horrific. I played on the highest settings of graphics on my HD computer, I had zero issues with it rendering or playing through as intended and smoothly - the graphics were still shit. I've seen better graphics in Barbie's Horse Adventures or The Sims 3. If you're entire argument of shifting onto Unity was for better graphics, HerInteractive, then you need to deliver and you failed miserably at that.

Navigation - I actually had zero issue with the 'swoosh' way we moved around. At times it felt a little restrictive (like in Town Square getting around the stage) but it was fine. I just actually didn't care for the camera tilt feature, it made things ten times more complicated trying to figure out what nooks and crannies they wanted you to notice and which they didn't. I'd happily go back to the old navigation and old engines but I'm fine with the new one so long as they work on making it better.

Cursor - Hated the new cursor, bring back the magnifying glass plz.

Location - I felt that the location of Salem, MA. wasn't utilized to it's fullest potential and that the layout of the town square and the maps of the city were surprisingly unsimilar to IRL Salem. I liked the aesthetic of Lauren's Shop, The Cemetary, The Hathorne House, and Olivia's Store but all of those locations fell victim to the game's graphics, still though props to the designer of those locations in the game.

Austrian Castle - This was jarring. To have a game so drenched in it's location of Salem then it starts off in Austria, it was weird. I get it that they were like "It's connected to the Salem Witch Trials cuz of da Judge dude" but it was super unnecessary and felt like a strange sub-plot location to a game set in Salem, MA.

Music - I liked the music, felt a little Harry Potter-ish at times and the 'indie rock' music they had that had zero lyrics was annoying but overall it was fine.

Witchy Stuff - I myself am a real practitioning witch, I am an ecclectic pagan wiccan and I know I am in the minority here but some of the puzzles were obnoxiously easy if you know anything about witchcraft. Like even the most basic level of witchcraft. If you ever skimmed through a wicca book in highschool with your edgy friends than you already know more than this game expects you to know. What pissed me off is that it's never actually explained to you. Like they bring up Samhain and fling the word around so it's all spooky and mystifying but they never once have a book or person discuss real Witchcraft with you. Like yeah Olivia is a 'real witch' or whatever and Lauren teaches you about mixing some herbs but it's still not like "Here is The Wheel of the Year, These are Sabbats and Esbats, This is an Athame, This is what we use brooms for we call them Besoms, etc" like the fact that we didn't get a wise old lady who was a clear rip off of Laurie Cabot teaching us about real Witchcraft in a very censor friendly and warm way pisses me off to no end. MISSED OPPORTUNITY HER!!!

Nancy's Behavior - So many times in this game Nancy behaved out of character to me. Like I get it, ya wanted to be all like "let's challenge her belief in ghooooosts!!" but it wasn't done correctly. Nancy wouldn't react to seeing ghosts like Scooby Doo and Shaggy.

Call Backs/Easter Egg - I appreciated the Easter Egg in this game being a literal colorful egg but it was a lame spot to hide it considering it was in plain view. However I appreciated the call backs to previous games with KoKo Kringles, Robotic Cats, and the Dear Sweet Charlotte jack-o-lantern.

Ghosts and Jumpscares - 10/10 best aspect of the game by far. The witch ghost over the bed actually got me really good and the ghosts in the underground tunnels were the best graphics of the game.

Pumpkins - Another charming part of the game that I actually enjoyed more than I anticipated. It was really cute and a fun stupid little thing to work on through out the game to find all the candles and put a pumpkin on each one.

Hardy Boys - PLEASE BRING THEM BACK FOR MORE GAMES AND NEVER STOP THE FRANCY SHIPPING. Also I could be tempted for Joe/Deirdre shipping js.

Overall - I'd rate the game a 4/10 and that's being nice. I liked it more than RAN but that’s really not saying much. It doesn’t come close to classic Nancy Drew Games.

Final Thoughts - I can't see any person who isn't a die hard Nancy Drew fan playing this and being like "Yeah I'll buy more of HerInteractive's future games!" like no. But I do see potential. I can see this as a beautiful beginning on a new platform making more immersive games. Or you know this could be the last game we get from HER and they close and go bankrupt and get flushed away and then the Miss Clue crew buys the rights for Nancy Drew and they make new Nancy Drew Games on the old platform with the old team....whichever works just fine for me :)

Prompt - Sweet Pea and y/n can’t tell each other they feel leading into a row, can Toni fix them by locking them up together Pairing - Sweet Pea x reader Warnings - swearing, Story

(y/n pov) “it’s Fp’s retirement party tonight” I hear Toni say as I sit down at our normal table. “it’s gonna be different with north siders there,” Fangs said. “what about north siders?” I laughed. “Jughead is having a party in the wyrm for Fp” Toni started but was quickly cut off by one of sweet peas vicious comments, about the Bulldogs, think they can come to their hangout.

It was no secret sweet pea was pissed over the order to stay away from northsiders and just his grudge with Archie to bed.

However, you couldn’t help but think the was more to it. Sweetpea wasn’t just snappy he was snappy at you something he’d never done until the last few weeks. His attitude was getting on your nerves but knowing him the way you did, you let his mood go over your head.

*** I walked into the Whyte wyrm, Toni was the first to see me. “Omg y/n you look amazing” she squealed making fangs and sweet pea look at me. “wow you like look a knock out y/n” fangs said looking me up and down.

I giggle and blush thanking them, I felt good in a pair of thigh high boots, a pair of black denim shorts that showed my ass off in the best possible way, a black low cut v neck top and finally my serpent jacket draped over my shoulder. My hair was loose and curly at the tips and my makeup was on point thanks to a little help from Veronica Lodge, Jughead’s girlfriend best friend. I felt great until Toni spoke again.

“What do you think sweet pea y/n looks hot, don’t you think?” She said. I held my breath, not that I’d admit it aloud but the reason I had put so much effort into looking good was for his befit. I’d loved him since forever but he always had that ‘I don’t care attitude about girls and relationships’ thing going on so I never told him, I was just happy being one of his best friends. I also didn’t want to make that friendship weird if he rejected me.

Sweet pea looked me up and down with a snarl on his face “I guess she looks dressing as a slut, the north side dogs will love it” he spat out. Out of nowhere my hand came up and slapped him hard across the face “fuck you, sweets, you're a horrible pick don’t ever speak to me again” I screamed out of anger trying to let my eyes fill up with tears, turning on my heel I walked over to the bar.

(sweet pea pov) I regretted the words the second I said them but I couldn’t help it. She looked incredible for him, for some Northside idiot.

“what the hell was that about pea?” Toni demanded looking at me unimpressed. “well played dude your an idiot” fangs said. I just shrugged my shoulders “what” I say mean slamming my glass down heading for the pool table to take out my frustration.

I didn’t hate y/n, the opposite actually I loved her. She was pretty funny and smart. I couldn’t tell her I love her though she’d been excepted for a good university, one I’d never get in. she leaves me like my mum, dad and any other person I got close too, it was easier for me to just keep being her friend. The same way I was with Toni and Fangs, we’d still always be the core four of the south side. I could live with that or at least I thought I could until I saw her with another guy. Since then I couldn’t control my feeling and jealousy always won.

(3rd person pov)

“really Fogarty what the fuck is up with him lately?” Toni said from behind the bar. Sweet Pea was lucky Toni was working otherwise she would have gone over and punched him. “he’s being a tit he’s jealous because y/n is dating that stupid Northside and he’s jealous” fangs said shrugging like it was obvious. Toni, however, looked in pure shock “y/n did what? no, I don’t believe it!” Toni said.

fangs had a sip of his drink “I wouldn’t of if I hadn’t seen it” he told the pink haired barmaid. “saw what?” she asked. “about two weeks ago we were at the northside going to pick up jones from his Barbie girlfriends, outside of pops we saw y/n, the next thing we see some northside kid start talking to her, he lent in and kissed her. sweet’s saw it and sped off and been in a mood ever since angry she’s with that bulldog” fangs explained.

Toni held her head in her hands, groaning. “what?” fangs asked. “she’s not dating that guy I know about that and trust me what you’ve just said certainly isn’t what happened” she told him. Toni looked over to where y/n was stood, she saw her look over in sweet peas direction with a saddened look on her face. “we need to fix this” Toni said looking between the pair. “fix what?” fangs said now following Toni's gaze between his two fighting friends. “she loves him, he loves her they just can’t see it can't see it so we need to fix it” Toni said with a twisted smirk. Fangs finished the last of his drink “oh no what crazy plan have you got in your head now Topaz?” he said, a small hint of worry in his voice. “oh you’ll see” she said whispering her plan in his ear.

(y/n pov) I saw Toni she waved at me to come over, not feeling in the party mood really only staying to see Fp and say welcome home, I slowly walked over. she asked how I was but I didn’t really answer still feeling hurt and broken by peas words. “y/n!” she said in a whiny voice, making me know she wanted something. “what do you want?” I laughed, “I have no bottles of beer left in the fridge and I can't leave the bar yet can you go down the stock room and get me some please?” she begged, putting her hands together pleading. I rolled my eyes “fine” I said actually I was kind of happy to get out the bar even if its only to the cellar. once down there I started looking at all the different cases of different brands looking for the Toni wanted.

after a little less then ten minutes of looking I couldn’t find any bottles, well not the ones I wanted anyway, I hear footsteps coming down the steps “Toni I can't find these drinks at all you sure there down here” I shout before finally turning around. It wasn’t Toni stood in the room but Sweetpea. “what the fuck do you want?” I say before we hear a slam come from the door.

(sweet pea pov) I was playing pool still feeling bad for what I said to y/n, “hey dude Toni wants you but heads up she’s pissed at you” fangs said. I gave him my cue asking him to play for me while I went to see what she wanted. I had an idea of what it was, to scream at me about y/n not like I didn’t deserve it. “your lucky we have rules against harming our own, what you said to y/n is almost unforgivable.” she said with a terrifying look in her eyes. “I know I didn’t mean it,” I said low looking at the ground I did feel guilty I knew Toni wouldn’t make me feel better it wasn’t in her nature. “like I said almost unforgivable but your lucky she’s a forgiving person,” Toni said raising her eyebrows at me. I sighed knowing she was right I needed to say sorry to y/n but I’m not any good at apologies. I looked round y/n wasn’t in the bar anyway maybe I could think of a really good one tonight and say sorry tomorrow.

Toni’s voice made me look back up “and to get back in my good books you can down to the cellar and help me get some more ice,” she said I know not to argue with her walking to the door to the cellar steps. as she opened the door fangs called her name saying Hogeye was looking for her. I looked at her “you go ill get the ice” I say earning a small thank you smile. waking down the steps I hear y/n’s voice call out for Toni. “sorry princess its just me” I smile at her. the door upstairs slammed shut. y/n ran to it pulling at the handle, “ugh it’s locked” she shouted.

I groaned in realization this was a setup, I wanted to kick myself for not seeing before. Y/n banged on the door calling out for someone to open it “they locked us in y/n/n” I say opening a bottle, if I was going to be locked in I might as well be comfortable I thought to myself. After a few minutes, y/n gave up on banging on the door sitting on the last step. The was a long pause of silence the only notice was y/n huffing and puffing over the locked door. I could tell she was still mad at me she wouldn’t look at me if I was going to make amends with her I needed to do something

I opened another bottle slowly waking over to her “here” I say trying to sounds kind. “fuck off I don’t want nothing from you sweet pea” she said turning her head away from me. I left the drink next to her before walking back to the small sofa that was down here. It hurt seeing her look at me like that and the way she said my name was venomous.

taking a deep breath trying to think about my words carefully, “y/n I’m really sorry about what I said before, your one of my best friends I shouldn’t have taken my mood out on you. I’m sorry, I really am” I told her.

“just because your pissed of doesn’t give you the right to call me a slag,” she said a small tear coming down her cheek. I wanted to do nothing more than hug her. “I’m sorry y/nÂ I’m really sorry I just got so … so… I don’t know angry and well my mouth works faster than my brain at times” I say low feeling full of shame, also feeling like a coward for still not being able to tell her how much I like her.

(y/n pov) Sweet pea tried to apologize to me for what he said and although I knew I would forgive him I didn’t want to right now. I’d never heard him say sorry to anybody, I didn’t think he knew how and seeing him like this was also a first. Sweetpea had two emotions happy or angry, he’d never shown sadness, guilt or sorrow before and the way his voice sounded as he spoke made me feel for him more. I was struggling to keep my anger for the handsome serpent.

“yeah whatever,” I say looking away I know if I keep looking into his big chocolate brown eyes I would cave and forgive him to easy for his words. Outside the door, I could hear the party going the music was roaring yet I got up and tried again banging and shouting on the door for someone to let us out. Just like the rest of my might luck was against me, and no one came.

It was freezing down here and my chose in clothing now didn’t seem to good. My jacket with my phone was still upstairs on the bar, no doubt Toni had it safe for me, but that didn’t help me now as goosebumps lined my skin. I started looking for something a little stronger than beer, finding a nice bottle of brandy. This should warn me up, I think before going to get on of the new glasses from a box I’d seen earlier. I poured a glass for myself, looking over at sweet pea, the expression on his face was almost heartbreaking, it was a similar look to the one he wore when he was told by tall boy his mother had left.

I walked over to the freezer putting the bottle down, I could feel sweet peas eyes one me, when I glance down at the floor I see my shorts and boots remembering his words. A part of me feels insecure and I involuntarily shiver. I heard him move off the couch but before I had a chance to turn and look at him I feel him slide his jacket over my shoulders. Still wanting to be mad I step out of it.

“look y/n I know you hate me but I can clearly see your freezing down here just take the jacket until we get out of here then you can carry on hating me,” he said. I looked at him confused, grabbing his serpent jacket putting it on. The warmth and smell of it made me smile, it smelt just like him cologne and cigarette smoke.

“I don’t hate you sweets, pissed and angry yes but I could never hate you” I tell him, a small smile appears on his face. I pick up the bottle “want one” I say waving the brandy. He nodded but didn’t speak, part of me wanted to know what he was thinking. After a few drinks, sweet pea and I was talking again although I still tried to keep a hint of attitude in my voice. We talked about how sweet thought Toni had locked us in until he apologized or I’d beaten him to a pulp but his comment about my outfit was still bothering me alone with his whole attitude lately. “so are you going to tell me what’s going on with you lately because you wouldn’t just call me a slut for nothing and it’s not the first time you’ve snapped at me lately pea” I ask him. He didn’t answer just shrugged his shoulders, only irritating me more. “come on pea u know you better something wrong and it’s more than just a bunch of Northsiders.” I say this time more dominant.

I see his jaw clench along with his fists, “why is everything always about North siders” he shouts. “because every time someone says them you act like this!” you shout back. Sweetpea didn’t say nothing again, instead he poured another shot. “don’t worry about or me when you get out of this room you can find your Northside boyfriend and worry about him instead” sweet pea said.

“excuse me what! Northside boyfriend since when! Where the hell did you get that stupid idea from” I almost laughed out. Sweetpea, however, didn’t see the funny side, he looked at me with nothing but put angry in his eyes. “don’t fucking lie to me y/n, I saw you with that bulldog” he screamed at me. I slowly started walking backward, not getting very far as my back hit a wall. “really sweet pea I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about” I tell him honestly, how could he think I liked some stupid football player when I was in love with him. Sweet peas hand rose, he punched the wall beside my head making me scream a little “I saw you kiss him outside of pops” he said. Although I was scared I had to laugh a little too “Omg pea you have it so wrong I was at pops to see Veronica, Reggie started talking to” but I was cut off by another one of peas punches to the wall

“Reggie so you’re on first name terms with the scumbag” he spat out. “yes he told me his name and what! Like I was saying REGGIE” I say his name with louder with sassy added “was talking to me outside while I waited for a taxi and out of nowhere he kissed me, I pushed him off and started to walk home just to get away from the creep” I yell back at him, trying to push him away, only failing.

Sweet pea uses his free hand grabbing my hip hard pinning me to the wall “like I’m going to believe that why would you want to go see that rich bitch for” his face came closer as he spoke I could now feel his breath on my face, while his eyes glared intensity into mine. My mind went blank for a second, the way he held me the way he was acting jealous and possessive was turning me on, my body shook as I looked back I to his eyes. Shaking my head I closed my eyes taking a deep breath

“because I wanted her advice on how to look hot, how to get the boy I like to actually notice me, but hey I guess it work seeing as he called me a SLUT” I screamed back at him, I ducked under his arm trying to get away from him from the mixed feeling I was having, when I left sweet pea grabbed my arms pinning back to the wall.

Before I could say anything in protest his lips crashed to mine in a dominant, heated kiss. The kiss ended as fast as it started, sweet pea looked at me, maybe for my reaction. I lifted my arms around his neck pulling him in for another. His hands gripped my waist pulling me closer to him as I tugged and pulled on the hair ant the back of his neck.

Without breaking the kiss he lifted me up so I was sitting on the freezer standing in between my legs. His hands cupped my face. We only stopped when we were breathless, he rested his forehead on mine “I’m sorry I got jealous and called you a slut, i really never meant it” he said slightly panting.

I smiled back at him “I’ll let you off your hot when your jealous” I say before pulling him in for another kiss. The noise of footsteps on the stairs made us stop and look, Toni and Fangs finally came down to free us. “well I told you this would work” Toni said with an all too pleased with herself smirk. Fangs laughed “well it’s about bloody time you told her you loved her,” he said to pea making me look at him.

Sweet pea was slight blushing “is that true?” I ask unsure if I wanna hear the answer, disappointed if it’s just fangs messing with him. Sweetpea looked at me and nodded “yes y/n it’s true I love you, I always have” he says looking down like he was embarrassed to admit his feelings. I grab his cheeks making him look at me “good because I love you too sweet pea” I tell him giving him a small kiss. Sweets hug me “come on lovebirds, you’re missing the party” Toni laughed chasing fangs back up the stairs.

I jump off the freezer to follow them when sweets grabs me “you mean it you love me” he asks, “of course I do” I say grabbing his hand “now let’s get up there before they lock us in again”

Family First

Summary: Emily Tozier knew one thing. Her father loved her as if she was his own. Yet, secrets and lies kept for years will push her into finding out the truth about her real father and his connection with Richie.

Chapter 1: Welcome To The Tozier Residents

“Good morning Los Angeles! Another sunny day in beautiful So Cal. I am your hostess with the mostess Richie Tozier.”

“Ugh.” The groggy sound came from under the covers of the Tozier home. Up high beyond the trees woke a tired young teen desperately wanting five more minutes. She cracked one eye open at the alarm clock on her bedside table. The time six thirty was displayed on the clock, blinking rapidly. She closed her eyes and covered her head from the glaring sunlight bouncing off the apartment walls.

“Now before I get started with the morning line up I would like to tell my loving daughter to get her lazy but up before she is late to school. You know I love you sweetie but Mondays are not sick days.” The girl let out a louder groan before throwing the blankets from her body.

“Okay, okay. You aren’t even here Jeeze.”

“Love you Emily darling.” Emily could hear her father’s kissing noise over the radio clock. He always knew when to wake her up. Soon after the kissing noises faded, music began to play over the radio. Emily lightly tapped her cheeks before getting up. She made her way through the brightly lit bedroom into the bathroom. Before entering she picked up a photo of her and Richie. The picture captured the moment of her third birthday. Many people were around her but her father was the most important. He always kept her close and others far away.

Once in the bathroom Emily began combing her long brown hair, a striking difference compared to her father’s jet-black hair. To be quite honest, everything about her was different than her father. She was well mannered while he was all over the place. She had straight long hair whole his was curly a challenge to comb. Emily found that she would control what her father ate due to his high cholesterol. Regardless of their difference, they were closer than most. Her father was her rock, the only family she had ever known.

“Hello?” The sudden sound made Emily jump. Who the fuck was in her house? She ran to the bat by her bed and slowly walked out of her room. She took every step with caution. The apartment was over fifteen thousand square feet so there were many places a person could be hiding. Emily looked around the corner and saw nothing, she slowly entered the kitchen. The hardwood floors felt freezing under her bare feet. She looked around to see no one behind the marble counter or by the table. A sudden bang made her turn with her bat held high. A girlish scream held her back from swinging.

“Don’t hit me this nose is new.” Emily lowered her bat when she realized it was a blonde young woman. She looked to be in her late twenties, way too young for her father’s age. She was wearing a wrinkled party dress that smelled like alcohol. Emily rolled her eyes before setting the bat on the counter.

“I won’t hit you. I just didn’t realize someone else was here.” An awkward silence grew as the young blonde realized who Emily was.

“You must be Richie’s daughter.” Emily rolled her eyes. This statement was nothing new to her.

“In the flesh.” Emily continued with her day acting like the woman wasn’t there. She began to make herself some breakfast. She threw some eggs in a pan and waited until they cooked. The silence between the two girls was not new to Emily but she could tell the blonde was uncomfortable.

“So, you are in high school right?” Oh, she must really like him. Not many girls try to get to know Emily after a one-night stand. Emily kind of felt bad for the girl. Richie was not the committed type.

“Yeah, junior.” Emily finished cooking the eggs and began to prepare the toast. She placed two pieces of bread in the toaster before opening the cupboard to retrieve plates.

“That is a big year. Do you have a college in mind?” This girl was really trying. Most stopped after the are you in high school question. While this was not Emily’s first rodeo she never could hate the girls her dad brought home. Most of the time they were decent enough, she only kicked out the ones who were rude. Those usually left on their own though.

“Not yet, dads going to take me touring during spring break.” Emily separated the eggs onto two plates. Once the toast was done she wiped them with some low-calorie butter and gave it to the girl.

“Thanks. That is very sweet.” The girl smiled at Emily as if she had done something right.

“As much as I would like to chat I have school to get ready for. You can stay here till you finish. Do not leave the plate on the table rinse it and lay it out to dry. I am going to eat in there.” Emily pointed to her room before making eye contact with the woman. The blonde nodded in response. Emily began walking to her room but was stopped when the hopeless romantic spoke again.

“Do you think your dad is going to call me later?” Emily could tell the girl was hopefully.

“Where did you meet him?”

“The bar.”

“No.” Emily didn’t even look back to see the woman’s crushed expression. Instead, she walked into her room and continued to get ready.

An hour had passed and the one-night blonde show was gone. She did as she was told, the plate laid next to the sink drying. Emily gathered her keys and backpack she paused to send a text to her father.

“Next time warn me before you bring home Barbie.” She watched as the dots appeared at the bottom of the screen before Richie’s words appeared.

“Sorry kiddo, I’ll make sure to do that next time. ; D” Emily let out an amused scoff before putting her phone in her pocket. She made her way to the door but stopped to look at the dark wooden doors at the opposite side of the room. Richie’s office stood behind them. Since she was born she was not allowed to go into that room. For years and years, she dreamed about what could be in that room. A national treasure? A dead body? Maybe the dog she always wanted? Who knows. Richie wasn’t a scholar, he didn’t need an office anyways. Yet, every night he would close himself off from her to be in that room. Her phone ringing halted her thoughts. She looked down at the phone before answering.

“Okay, okay I’m coming jeeze.”

“Did you listen to your dad this morning?” Emily looked up at her best friend Kelly from across the lunch table. She had known Kelly since kindergarten. They traded juice boxes once and were tied at the hip since.

“How could you not? He was annoying the fuck out of Johnny Depp. It was great.” Alexa, the girl next to Kelly was another story. They became friends with her in the beginning of high school and Emily didn’t see their friendship continuing after. She had the hots for her dad which was creepy considering he was fifty-seven. “Like his comment making fun of why we need a Pirates of The Caribbean eight was spot on.” Emily rolled her eyes before commenting.

“Okay, chill with your obsession with my dad please.” Emily had told Alexa how much it bothered her but the girl never stopped.

“Oh come on how could I not? He is becoming a silver fox. It’s not like he is your real dad anyways.” Emily really wish she could stuff her salad in Alexa’s face. Kelly looked at Emily with concern. Everyone knew she was adopted. It was obvious she looked nothing like him but Richie loved her like she was his own.

“Yeah well it doesn’t matter. He is my dad and he is all I need.” Emily felt her heart sink at the lie she just told. If she was being honest she wanted to know about her real father and mother. Richie never told her about them, all he would say is that she wasn’t abandoned as a baby. He adopted her right away. Yet, how could she not be? When she was thirteen she saved up her money to do an ancestor test. She spent one hundred dollars to only learn she originated from England. It was not one of Emily’s best moments.

“Are you still looking for him, you know your real dad?” Kelly touched Emily’s hand to comfort her. Kelly knew what she was asking was hard. There were many nights where Kelly help Emily as she cried about who she was and where she came from. Emily smiled at Kelly before taking a stab at her salad.

“I am planning to ask my dad about it again. It is getting close to that time of the year.” Emily first noticed the pattern when she was five. There was a week-long period where Richie was at his worst. He would begin to smoke cigarettes and lock himself up in the office for hours at a time. He always made sure Emily was cared for. Nannies would be more frequent until she was old enough to take care of herself. However, she saw how in pain her father was and it killed her to never know the reason. It was as if someone died every year and he was grieving. They would be having dinner and then suddenly his eyes would cloud over. Richie would begin to cry and excuse himself from the table. He would lock himself in the office, he would lock himself away from Emily.

The rest of the school day past in a blur. Emily walked into the apartment smelling a one of her favorite meal. Chinese takeout. She looked at the dinner table to see a collection of take out boxes

“Will you forgive me?” She looked up to see Richie Tozier with his arms open. For an older man, he was fit. Many say he mastered the art of aging through botox or secret Asian face masks but he never used those things. When he smiled you could see the lines appear under his eyes and mouth. His hair was still black but would begin to gray here and there until he got it dyed. He was not the most attractive man but his personality made him a magnet towards women.

“You could have texted me before you left.”

“I know, I know I was running late. Those four am shifts can be killer. But..” Her father bent down on his knees in a dramatic display. He held Emily’s hand before wiping away fake tears. “Will you forgive me light of my life? The peanut butter to my jelly, the moon to my sun.”

“That depends.” Emily lowered her gaze towards the food on the table. “Did you get eggrolls.”

“I got all the eggrolls.”

“Okay, I forgive you.” Richie jumped up in celebration before giving Emily a big hug.”

“I love you so much Eds!” Emily felt his arms grow tighter around her. She almost couldn’t breathe.

“Don’t call me that.” Emily whined but felt her father stiffen. He moved away from Emily and placed his hands on her shoulders. She never understood why he gave her the middle name Ed. It sounded so stupid, Emily Ed Tozier. When she told him to stop it would always end the same way. She could see the pain in his eyes before he turned away. She knew it wasn’t meant for her, it was something he knew that she didn’t.

“Let us begin the feast!”

They continued the rest of the night eating and watching reality television. It was a nightly ritual of where they judged the lives they pretty much live. Her father did a morning radio show that woke her up every morning. When he isn’t annoying people over the radio, he is annoying them on talk shows and comedy skits. He may not be as rich as some of the reality stars but Richie and Emily were more than comfortable. They had lived in the apartment for ten years now. Many people asked Emily why her father never bought a house. She would always shrug and say he wasn’t a fan. Yet, she never really knew the whole reason. Emily never met her grandparents. They lived in California but seemed to only want Richie when he had money to give. Her father said it was best she never met them since they were anything but friendly. She never questioned him.

“Hey, dad.”

“Yeah?”

“Can I ask you something?”

“Shoot my darling.” Emily hated his little nicknames almost as much as when he called her Eds. She didn’t react this time because an overwhelming sense of nerves took priority.

“I was wondering, now that I am older. If I could learn more about my first parents.” She made sure not to say the words real. The room went silent other than the bickering of the reality stars. They were fighting over some shoe deal that the other sibling stole.

“Why do you want to know?”

“I just, want to see what they are like. I’m just curious.” The girls were screaming on the television now. The camera angles focus on their movements.

“I thought we discussed this before.” His voice lost the cheerful tone it use to have. Emily felt her breathing hitch.

“Not really. You always change the subject and I really think we should talk about this seriously.” The reality stars were fighting on the floor now grabbing each other’s hair.

“Are you not happy with your life?”

“Of course I am Dad. I just want to know who my parents were. Even a picture would help.” Emily could tell that help was not the right word. Richie got up and placed the plate in the sink loudly. It caused the plate to break.

“Shit.” He muttered to himself as he began to gather the pieces and throw it in the trash.

“Dad please.”

“No, Emily we are not talking about this right now.”

“Then when? Give me a time. Give me a date.” She watched as her father began putting the food away. She realized he would shut her out soon.

“I can’t give you a date okay. Those people do not matter. I raised you and if you cannot accept that then we have a bigger problem to deal with.” He began to raise the sleeves of his long sleeve tee. Emily watched the cotton sleeve lift to reveal the tattoo that he tried to hide from her. His forearm displayed dark black letters spelling out loser. They were not neat, it was as if a child wrote it. The s had a sharp red v trying to change the word to lover. It was a tattoo that Emily had seen before but not fully. It would slip if he was doing the dishes or rubbing his arm. It was the only tattoo he had and it had meaning. A meaning Emily needed to know.

“What about this?” Emily grabbed his arm, letting the light shine on the dark ink. “You let these women see it but you won’t tell me what it means?” I have a right to know I’m your daughter.” Emily felt tears beginning to fall as she looked up at her father for answers. She was tired of not knowing, she was tired of being in the dark. Her father looked just as hurt as she did. He looked like he was caught up in a mix of emotions she couldn’t describe. His mouth opened as if he was going to explain it all to her. She felt a surge of hope before it died in her stomach as he closed his mouth. He turned away, heading towards his office.

“Another time.”

The doors slammed behind him making the wall between them that much thicker. She thought she knew her father she thought they were close. Yet, as she got older and more questions passed without answers, she felt like she was losing the only family she had. Emily ran to her room. She closed the door and slid down the back of it. She let herself cry before looking at her phone and dialing Kelly’s number. This wasn’t the first time and it wouldn’t be the last.
