Sonny: He’s had many headaches in his time as a cop, student and ADA. So he would know exactly what do do to help you. He’ll tell you to go lay down in bed, then goes to grab the essentials; medicine, juice, water and tea, the cold compress for your eyes that was always kept in the fridge.

Shortly after grabbing everything he’s back in the room, sitting on the edge of the bed to place it all on the bedside table. «You’re too good to me Dominick», you say tiredly, eyes closed from the light in the sealing.

«You know you could’ve left the lights off right?» «And risk tripping and hitting my head, no thanks my love.»

He chuckles softly, helping you get settled. «I’ll turn it off on the way out—»

As soon as you heard that you pouted, and he knew you wanted him to stay. But he couldn’t too much work going on at the moment. Which he told you, though he promised to come back as soon as possible to check in on you.

With a soft kiss to your forehead he left, and as promised, turned the lights off so you could finally rest.

Joe: He’s worried as soon as you don’t answer his call. He’d wanted to let you know he was on his way home, and to ask if you wanted takeout or for him to cook. But after the third time of going to voicemail he stormed to your place.

A sigh of relief left his lips when he saw you sleeping on the couch, only the light on the end table on in the living room.

As soon as he sat down though you opened your eyes, your vision trying to focus enough to see him. «Jose?»

«You had me worried sick amor, couldn’t get a hold of you.»

«I’m sorry…I took my migraine medicine and fell asleep—»

He cups your cheek, caressing the smooth skin with his thumb, «Let me go get a cold cloth for your forehead. You just lay here and rest amor, I’ll be back soon.»

Barely able to nod, you turned your head slightly, kissing the palm of his hand. «Thank you.»

«Darling—your heart rate is spiking—are you okay?»

You let out a pained groan not even a second after he asked. «How do you always know when I’m not well?» A soft chuckle left his lips, his hands coming to cup our cheeks. «I’m a vampire, darling, I can smell and hear everything. Now tell me what’s wrong.»

Raising your hand to your forehead, you pouted up at him, explaining that you were getting a migraine.

«You have medicine for that right?» 

A small nod, then a huff, «But they’re at my place, I’ll be fine though, I just need an ibuprofen or something.»

Gallowglass gave you a look.

«Eric, I’ve been through this for so many years, I’ll be fine.»

«Fine. I’ll have Marthe or Marcus bring it up here, you’re going straight to bed.»

«Yes sir.» You rolled your eyes, but on the inside you absolutely loved it.

I want Hugh! Don't get me wrong, Em would be nice to have back, and Philippe, but I want to see Hugh. See the dynamic between him and Fernando, and Gallowglass, his little family. I want to see his relationship with his siblings, especially Matthew and Baldwin, and I want to see him be an amazing uncle! I can see him and Miyako being close. And I want him to take over from Baldwin, so my baby can have a fucking break 😅

2. As much as I love Apollo, he's a hippogriff, while I think he could do some damage, Cora is a firedrake and could probably toast him (please don't, darling). A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Gallowglass is quick to see through people; after a first meeting, he either likes you or hates you. If he likes you, then he’ll joke around with you. He’s not a touchy-feeling guy, but he’ll nudge your shoulder when laughing. He shows affection by hanging around you, whether talking or not. He just likes your company.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

He most likely met you through a family member (or something on family business). If not, though, then he probably met you at a bar. Gallowglass is a ride or die friend, though—he’ll have your back through everything and is pretty protective of you. But he’s also a huge teddy bear, and easy to laugh with.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Gallowglass isn’t big on touching, but if you asked him nicely, he’d cuddle with you. It’s mostly when it’s too warm out—his cool skin is refreshing. Plus, those big, strong arms just make you feel safe.

If watching a movie or something, then he may have an arm around your shoulders.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

Noooo! Gallowglass is a nomad—he is constantly moving, never staying in one place for more than a few months. If you’re only friends, then be prepared to go months, or even years, without seeing him. But if dating, then he’ll either take you with him, or he’ll settle for a little longer than normal (a year or two) before itching to move.

He is not a cook; he’d most likely have a vampire as a cook for you.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

He’d be pretty blunt about it, ripping the bandaid off. He’d try and reassure you that it’s him and not you, and then he’d be gone the next day. He’s not one to stick around.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Gallowglass isn’t really interested in commitment; he’s had partners, but they don’t last too long. It’s not until he mates with someone that he’ll even entertain marriage.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

He’s very much the big, buff, intimidating guy with a heart of gold. He’s good at glaring—and can obviously handle himself in a fight (to the death)—but with you, he’s a big teddy bear. When talking, he can be pretty blunt about feelings and emotions, but he never makes you feel silly or stupid for having emotions, and he can be surprisingly gentle.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Gallowglass usually hugs only his favorite people when greeting—and it’s a big bear hug! Otherwise, he’ll grip an arm and do that half-hug guys do. Ysabeau obviously gets a kiss on the cheek.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

Almost never—it’s just not something he says. He shows it more than says it, but the first time he says it to you is months into dating (and after mating).

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

Besides the normal vampire-instincts of protection/possessiveness, he’s very trusting of you, especially after mating. Sometimes, he can’t stop himself from growling when an unknown vampire gets too close to you, but since he doesn’t have bloodrage, he’s a little more in control of his instincts than others.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Gallowglass kisses slow and deep. He’s in no hurry to do anything with you, just taking his dear sweet time with you. He’ll memorize every single inch of your lips and mouth. It’s his mission to memorize your body with his fingers and mouth. His favorite place to kiss you is on your chest—it’s so close to the heart vein and makes him feel closer to you.

Likewise, he likes being kissed on the chest. If you kiss his tattoos, it’s a bonus.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

He is the sweetest with children! He’s the fun uncle, the one that lets the children climb all over him. He’ll also pick them up and run with them or throw them high in the air before catching them.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

He’ll have your drink of choice ready for you in the kitchen…unless you ask for him to cuddle in the morning. But mornings are very slow and sleepy; he’s not one to rush anything, really. He just takes every day at a time.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

Much like mornings; just slow, lazy, relaxed. In bed, he’s very, very gentle. He’d be happy to lay with you and just talk, but if you’re in the mood (which he’d smell), then he’d make love to you for as long as you want him to. It’s true that in his younger years, he was a slayer on the battlefield and in the bedroom, but now that he’s older, he’s slowed down a bit.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

Gallowglass is very private, like most vampires. He won’t disclose things in his past, especially the bad things. You’d most likely only get things from him if you have a way to see into his mind (like a witch’s kiss or bloodlore). If mated, though, he may give you one or two things once a year.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

He has a quiet anger—he’ll glare and bare his teeth, growling low in his throat for intimidation. But it’s hard to get him actually mad; he’s pretty laid back. He may get frustrated with things, though.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Gallowglass has learned to pay attention to little details, so he’ll remember almost everything you tell him. He’s good at taking you places or giving you gifts related to things you’ve mentioned liking. Sometimes, you don’t even need to tell him; he can see how your eyes light up at something.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

It was the moment he knew without a doubt that he loves you. You did something small for him—just something that shows you know him, know what he likes—and it just touches his heart. It still warms his heart when you do things for him, but that first time is his fondest memory.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

You are the first thing Gallowglass tries—and tries hard—for. Sometimes, the family business takes precedence, but he still tries his hardest to treat you right and take you for romantic dates. He’s down to sweep you off your feet to take you to Paris for a romantic getaway, or just spend all night with you, making love to you until you’re exhausted.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

The de Clermonts always come first—if Baldwin (as head of the family) or Marcus (as head of the Knights) calls upon him for some business, he cannot say no. Sometimes, this means you don’t see him for months (or even years).

He’s a nomad and it’s hard for him to settle down. Trying to find a home for him to settle on is next to impossible—“this one is too far from the ocean,” “this one doesn’t look right,” “this one is too small.”

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

The only time Gallowglass cares about his looks is when he’s playing the de Clermont muscle. He’ll don his rings and bracelets, his leather jacket—anything that makes him look like a tough ass. But otherwise, as long as you love him, he doesn’t care about his looks much.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Once you’ve mated, that’s it. You are his everything, his entire world. He’s super protective, and when you’re not close, he’s filled with too much energy, pacing around and looking pissed until he’s back with you.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

Gallowglass is a huge softie. Of course, he’s played the part of bodyguard, muscle, and brawler his whole (vampire) life, and he slips into that role easily. But with you—when no one else is around—he’s so soft and vulnerable. He’s so tired of being the big, scary man and absolutely melts when you take care of him.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

He doesn’t like a partner that’s the same as him—in terms of his role in the family. He wants something so opposite of the life he’s had, someone soft, someone that helps him to forget his inner demons. She does have to be strong, but more in willpower than physically.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs?)

Like all vampire, Gallowglass doesn’t sleep much. When he does, he wears only boxers (or nothing at all). If he’s next to you, then he’s curled around you protectively, but if he’s alone, then he normally sleeps on his stomach, limbs sprawled.

Gallowglass (1993)

Triggerwarning: Suicide, Physical Abuse, Violence

Summary: Joe (Michael Sheen) was just released from a mental hospital but his foster parents wont take him back home. Desperate and having nowhere to go he attemps to commit suicide but is saved last minute by Sandor (Paul Rhys). Joe is now devoted to his saviour, who uses this to his advantage by further manipulating Joe up to the point where he aggrees to help kidnap a young woman.

Spoilers beyond this

Starting off with a punch in the gut (litterally)

Found this a bit uncomfortable to watch. Not necessarily because its bad, but because is portrays a very abusive relationship between Sandor and Joe. It’s proper fucked up, so that is kinda the point. Joe is almost obsessed with Sandor, constantly excusing his horrible behaviour and actions. You very much believe that Joe would do anything for him. It’s genuinely scary to watch.

Sandor saves Joe

After they successfully kidnap the young woman they where after it turns out Sandor isn’t after a ransom, but is in love with her and wants to free her from her (as he thinks) miserable life. She rejects him which he, after some drama, accepts. However Sandor ends up killing himself the same way Joe tried to earlier, by throwing himself in front of a train. And because he’s a total bastard he does it right in front of Joe. (poor guy can’t catch a break)

Throughout the series are short clips of Joe explaining the events in hindsight This shows a very different aspect of the character it’s almost jarring. But in a good way. You very much get the sense that this whole story scarred him even further, but he also seems more mature and reflected. In the end we see that he might be talking to a therapist (maybe even in a prison?) so I like to think that at some point in his life he manages to set himself free from that past trauma. “Tilly said Sandor was bananas, off the wall, after lunch…there seem to be a lot of words for mad. I told her never to say it. He wasn’t mad, he was just in pain…I know all about that, don’t I?” - fucking shivers down my spine The way he delivered that line, fucking genius. If you dont wanna watch the whole series, watch this one scene it’s so good. (it’s somewhat at the 44 minute mark of episode three)

The performances of the lead actors are way more convincing than I expected, it’s the most interesting part of the whole series imo. Joe starts off already broken and by the end he’s absolutely fucked up. He gets completely corrupted by his saviour to the point of kinda assuming his persona after Sandor died. Thats a pretty interesting dynamic and it left me feeling a bit icky afterwards.

I havent read the book but even with the great performances of the actors something about the story didnt quite capture me. Like the suspense was built up, but the payoff wasnt quite there. Maybe the stakes arent high enough? Idk something about the overall story couldve been pushed a bit more…

Anyway idk if this was Michaels very first time acting in front of a camera, but considering this was very early in his career he did an exeptionally good job. Michael has this way of completely disappearing in his characters its amazing to watch. And it blows my mind that he could do this so well already when he was just like 24 I think?

Joe calls the woman they intend to kidnap "the princess", after a story Sandor told him

His acting combined with Paul Rhys gives a very convincing dynamic. If it wasn’t for them this would’ve been an absolute bore.

Would I recommend watching this? Maybe, If you don’t have a problem going through a few unconfortable scenes and a overall mediocre story. If you absolutely want to see Michael play a very broken, fucked up young man, sure! There’s some good acting in it so at least it isnt boring. Just prepare for violence and some uncomfy stuff.

so, so much of gallowglass's immortality has been spent in solitude. he's like a buoy floating at the outskirts of ocean de clermont. first, his small little family is disowed for the scion hugh attempted. for, what? pride? ego? a father's ache at letting his son go? whatever it was, it was, ultimately, the first fracture that put distance between gallow and the family proper.

we don't see any real interaction between gallowglass and the family except for matthew, who does not read ( to me ) as someone who treats gallowglass like family. gallowglass is a walking weapon and a walking shield to be sent on tasks for political or physical gain. he stood vigil, sent messages, and took up space. it would very much make sense to me if that was something phillipe did and set the tone for matthew to do the same. although, as it was pointed out to me, phillipe also ends up giving gallowglass a lot more grace than anyone else in the family is allowed.

because of the guilt.

is that how matthew intended to come across? no clue. he is not in my brain and i will not try to assume what's in that complex mind of his. but, that's certainly how it looks as they all travel across europe. well, the parts of europe that don't include france.

but, then you have this impossible task placed upon gallow. a secret task that no one else can know about so that the events of history don't affect the future that needs to come to pass. and, i think this is where he, even more affectively, puts a giant distance between himself and the rest of the de clermonts. he alone knows what he's supposed to do, especially after phillipe's death. he alone knows what he waits for and what puzzle pieces need to be placed.

not to say that he would turn anyone down if they ask him to perform a task. especially baldwin. gallowglass might joke about baldwin being a grump but there is zero question in his mind about whether or not the eldest surviving son is doing his best for the family.

all the while, poor gallowglass is falling deeper and deeper in love with an ideal. someone powerful and someone who saw through his position of servitude. someone who refused to bow in this world of carefully placed chess pieces.

he fell in love with a wish.

and i also think that was why he alone was tasked with waiting for her. did phillipe bank on his love? perhaps. did phillipe bank on that emotion festering until diana was just as much goddess for gallowglass as she'd been for phillipe? probably. i think gallowglass puts that together in book of night and it's the reason he walks away from the family again.

At first Baldwin isn’t affectionate at all. He’s so used to being a stone cold business man who juggles work, the congregation and his family (looking at you Matthew and Diana!) But as he spends more time with you he’ll loosen up, and becomes more affectionate. He’ll deny it of course, should it ever become known to anyone. That’s not to say though that he absolutely loves treating you like a God/Goddess. 

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Like with anything, it takes time for Baldwin to open up. He’s got associates of course, but not too many friends. Even fewer best friends. Those he does have though, stem from years, even centuries of shared interests. Some old battle buddies, dare I say even Domenico is a some what friend for him (since Trystan and Gregg seemed to be good buds)

Baldwin doesn’t know the first thing about cooking! He’s never needed too. When he was a human, a soldier, he wouldn’t cook. and As a vampire, there’s no need to, cooked food tastes disgusting to vampires.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

Mating is for life though, so if you’re mated, you’re stuck with him for as long as you’ll live. If it’s just a fling though he’ll end it quickly (and painfully for you) then move on with his day.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

If he knows you’re the one he’ll tell you right away, hoping you feel the same. If the feelings mutual you’ll be mated soon enough, with the wedding following after! Which will of course be GRAND.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

At first not so much. And still after committing to you he’s not that gentle, but he can be! If you ask him to. However he’s more emotionally gentle with you than physically, cause have you SEEN that man?! 🥵

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

He gives the BEST hugs! But it takes time for him to do so! His hugs isn’t as bear like as Gallowglass’ or as comforting as Matthew’s but it’s not like hugging rocks. His arms will wrap around you, often from behind, kissing the side of your head, and then your shoulder. He’d losen the hold once you started turning in his arms, and then he would hug you, just enough.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

Like with fiance(e) he’d do it when he knows you’re the one. And he’ll tell it to you in every language that he knows!

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

He’s not as jealous as Matthew is, but he can definitely get jealous. If you’re alone with him and tell him something that makes him feel jealous, he’ll roll his eyes and tell you «whatever» before leaving the room, which will usually result in you running after him and asking what’s wrong. HOWEVER, if you’re out and he sees someone hitting on you or touching you he’ll walk over, pull you behind him and tell the person in a deadly quiet voice «Try that again and you’ll find yourself without a tongue/arm».

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Like fireworks! He loves kissing the side of your head, your shoulder, obviously your lips, and over your heart. Where Baldwin would like to be kissed is over his heart, lips and cheeks.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

He’s so awkward around them, mostly tries to avoid children if possible. But will do anything for his niece and nephew.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

He’ll be awake as you wake up, reading something or just scrolling on his phone, smiling as you roll over to cuddle him closer. A soft «good morning» will be whispered between you, and he’ll lean in to kiss you. All mornings (if neither of you are needed elsewhere) is spent lazily in bed, cuddled close.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

He’ll drag you to bed and spend it (after you’ve done your nightly routine) loving every inch of you, absolutely wearing you out before you sleep 👀😏

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

Long after you two have mated! Unless there’s a way you can see into him (like a bite or a witches kiss). If Baldwin can help it, he’ll reveal things slowly. He wouldn’t want anyone to find out anything about it, and if he can reveal snippets (under the promise that you won’t share it with anyone) he will.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

It depends on the situation of course. I feel he’s more patient with his mate than with his family (looking at you again Matthew). He’s more calm in the Congregation (even if they almost had him beheaded—Matthew). While at work he’s quite hot headed.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

He remembers everything you’ve told him. No matter how small.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

He has some favorites, like your first kiss, first «I love you», mating, first time.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Like any vampire, Baldwin is very protective of you, especially when you’re mated. He would kill anyone for you, and would give his life to keep you safe. In return though, he would claim that he doesn’t need protecting. «I’ve survived centuries. I’ll be fine.»

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

He’ll gift you little things here and there. Coffee from your favorite café, chocolate from your favorite confectionary, your favorite flowers. Anything to make you smile. Dates and anniversaries are especially thought out. And he has a tendency to fly you to Paris for a date, or Rome for your anniversary. Anywhere you want to go, and he’ll bring you there.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Is it dumb of me to say there’s nothing bad with him? He could of course relax every so often, I’m sure the world won’t crash and burn if he did 😅

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

He prides himself in looking good. It gives him a good image in the finance world, as well as to the creature world who sees him as the head of one of the most well known vampire families

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

At first? No. But as he grows closer, and later mates with you, ABSOLUTELY

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

If Baldwin is really stressed, frustrated or angry, he’ll switch over to latin, where he can curse more freely (though not around other latin speakers of cours)

Its that epigraph more than anything else in this trilogy that should warn you, this story is about longing. And it’s not entirely sexual either, which makes it even more angsty and emotional, at least to me.

It’s that old world represed aching, gnawing hungry longing that you can feel in your bones that the creatures of the All Souls universe have built up over the centuries, since the covenant crushed them all into an unwilling and ultimately emotionally and genetically harmful segregation.

Matthew states that for his All Souls College essay, the emotions he wrote about were fear and desire:

 “As far as I can tell, there are only two emotions that keep the world spinning, year after year.” He hesitated, then continued. “One is fear. The other is desire.” 

With fear he may have been talking about prejudice, fear of the other and unknown and unmet possibilities. Fear of hope. And desire for what we want, what we think we need, love, acceptance, understanding, belonging. Missing and mourning are also a form of desire, for that other person or place that is abscent. Desire for knowledge. Desire for a future, or the fear of the absence of one based on creature laws.

Every creature in that universe just has this deep gnawing longing for just anything that can tell them where they came from or to let them know they are not alone or misunderstood, or against the law...It’s not so different then the real world.

in all his years with his father, gallowglass knew one thing very well. phillipe de clermont never asked anything of anyone. he was old, powerful, and played more chess with of the lives of his family than any commander he'd ever seen. as much as resentment settled into the hollow in his chest, the viking knew it was based on love. not many saw it just like not many saw baldwin's iron fist as the very same thing. love came in a variety of forms, though. that gallowglass knew very well.

had neither phillipe nor baldwin cared about their family they would've have fought so hard to keep it in line. they wouldn't have expended so much energy to make sure every piece was in place to ensure their safety.

sometimes gallowglass wondered if he was the only one to remember any of that when everyone else looked at both vampires at face value. either that or it was the frustration with matthew bubbling to the surface.

for an assassin he was certainly coddled an awful lot.

bringing the cigarette up to his lips, gallowglass listened as each footstep brought yet another auntie ever closer. astoria reminded him a lot of a tiger. beautiful, deadly stripes with claws ready to shred anyone who dared cross her mate. funny how there was a similarity between her and diana in that sense. yet, they'd probably never see the mirror in each other because they were both too busy being protective over what was theirs.

at that, the vampire couldn't help at laugh at himself. what an idiot.
