HELLO!!! I can’t believe it took me my 2nd rereading of the series to realise you guys had an official Tumblr, but I’m just here to gush over how much I adore this AU! It has to be HANDS DOWN my favourite rendition of Silm fanwork— I looked forward to working my way through all 400+ fics during a rather tough month every night, so it was serious comfort content for me!! There’s really nothing else like it 💓

The amount of research, planning and depth that goes into each piece just never fails to astound me. I especially adore the spotlight you give to characters like Gwindor (what a guy), Caranthir, Estrela/Arien— and truth be told sometimes I forget characters like Sticks aren’t in the canon verse lmao. And! Seeing Melian’s Chinese culture written in the Doriath fics was a pleasant surprise too; it really resonated in a personal way with me that I’ve never seen explored in any other way before so that’s just one of the countless things that make you guys’ AU so goshdarn *special*

Plus I could rave for HOURS about just how beautifully complex Maedhros is (and continues to be… Pharmakós! Pharmakós!) as the AU’s gem (best booooyy), or all the intertwining character relationships... I am speechless. Literally. maybe for the best bc asks probably have word limits but I DIGRESS

I look forward to each and every update, and I’m so SO excited to see what lies in store!!! I’m slowly but steadily sorting my way through this blog but if you don’t mind me asking, do you guys have any canon designs of the cast? I would love to do fanart if I can find the time but am also TERRIFIED of inaccuracies, so I hope you don’t mind me asking! Still, keep up the brilliant work and thank you again for this absolute blessing to the Silm fandom 💓

That you are rereading the AU MULTIPLE times is simply the best compliment we could ever receive. Hopefully our next 400+ fics get you through the next ten years or however long it takes us. Every comment and kudos and bookmark are noted and appreciated.

Also, can we congratulate you on flawless taste in characters? Estrela and Caranthir and Gwindor are among our author-favorites to write for, especially since our adaptations of them feel so personally developed at this point. It's hard to remember sometimes that Estrela is the literal sun in Tolkien canon, or that Gwindor and Maedhros were never friends.

As for Maedhros, it seems fair to say that he's the central character, the primary protagonist of this retelling, and we strive to make him interesting and tragic and funny and poignant and [very hot] and so, yes, a gem. Thank you for loving him! Not a day goes by in the authorial groupchat when we're not talking about him. For a while his physical action necessarily stagnated because of his injuries, but we did our best to keep his character growth forward-moving, and use the time (ahh, The Healing Year, was it like half the AU or something? :D) to develop many relationships that were set up early on.

Now, for an apology that this reply is so belated: you asked if we had canon designs for the cast...please don't be terrified to make your own fanart! We are so honored when anyone creates anything, and you're welcome to draw as much or as little on the descriptions in our fics when doing so. If you go through the fanart tag on the blog, you can see the variety of interpretations that other generous fans have shared.

1. sokka braids yn’s hair, but yn gives sokka pretty beads she finds in the fire nation markets for his hair—glassy obsidian that just barely glints in the light; gems from the volcanic islands like garnet, spinel, zircon, quartz (mostly red and orange gems cut into beads, but sometimes she’ll find blue ones like aquamarine and apatite); bright seashell beads from the tropical wildlife; polished wood from native trees; gold and silver that catch the eye in his dark hair. he’s the prettiest boy in the whole swt 😤

2. irt art major sokka what if i told you i had a whole wip just about that sitting neglected in my drafts rn... tragique. pls do not make me think abt biology major sokka, esp marine biology major sokka, bc i am already down so bad for him that my bio major heart simply could not take any more. he absolutely would love micro and i’d let him borrow my epidemiology books i read abt past pandemics. i also feel like he’d be like brad leone from bon appetit and ferment everything. this man makes his own hot sauce and kombucha. but he simultaneously cannot be trusted to cook dinner bc he will burn water

1. i LOVE that hc!! y/n absolutely would pick up pretty gems to give to sokka so he can wear them in his hair. and y/n DEFINITELY brings ty lee with her when she goes shopping for them. everytime he comes from visiting y/n, the one’s he had braiding in his hair have been replaced with new ones. except for one! there’s a garnet bead that was the first one y/n had every bought for him, a rare frivolous buy for her, she wasn’t as much as a shopaholic as sokka. he always keeps that one because the deep red reminds him of her.

- when katara see them, she complains that she never gets cool gifts from the fire nation, so if she doesn’t come for a visit, y/n make sure to send some along for her 🥰

2. art major sokka..... i am thinking.... 🥺 i love him sm he would thrive in that environment asfjsakldf

BUT speaking of biology major sokka..... and him fermenting things.... listen... what if i told you i have a quarantine fic that i want to write when traitor is over... and that i hadn’t chosen his major yet but i did write that he’s really into making those quarantine foods that everyone was doing like sourdough babies and i could be convinced...that he is a bio major who makes kombucha and burns water 😈

it’s not a secret that I’m amazed by your talent on the daily- the way you’re able to create such intricate and captivating worlds never fails to impress me (seriously, teach me your ways!) It’s impossible to just pick one, so I’m gonna talk about the infinite amount of love I have for streets and be there for me under the cut!

I LOVE streets with my whole heart- the opening brings me so much comfort, and the way you word it feels like a cup of tea on a cold day. and the line ‘not one of them in the entire world had even compared to the gem that was spencer reid’?! it makes me wanna cry (in the very best way bc it’s so true- hey universe, where’s my spencer?)

and the repetition of the statistic as an introduction to his insecurities was absolutely brilliant and once again I wanna scream about your talent from the rooftops because WOW

I just adore how you set the stage for what’s to come (even though we don’t know it yet!) in this part and made the reader’s feelings so clear.

which made the next part even more painful bc WOW AGAIN my heart broke when he showed her the napkin

(but that didn’t compare to how much it broke when we found out spencer’s date stood him up 😭)

I love how derek is the one that comforted reader and he and penelope knew what was up the whole time- that’s just so in character for them!

“sometimes he just wanted to give the push you two clearly needed, but he was stopped with penelope telling himself constantly that you two needed to find one another in your own time, just like the tech analyst did with agent morgan” BRB SCREAMING THAT YOU INCLUDED MY BABIES IN LOVE

and then when spencer was insecure about the date and reader reassured him/ helped him get ready even though the last thing she wanted was for him to go on that date?? SHE LOVES HIM SO MUCH!

I adored the glimpse at morcia having the cutest Valentine’s Day ever omg ♥️♥️♥️ but when we learned about Spencer’s night?? 💔💔💔

gosh I felt so bad for him bc what the heck is up with that barista! how do you give someone your number and then just stand them up like 😭

(but also... thanks in a way because it allowed reader to open up and tell Spencer how she feels with the CUTEST letter!!! AND THE ROSES?! YES GIRL 👏🏽)

ugh then he went and held her hand and kissed her and I’m over here yelling about how in love they are and how they deserve all the love in the world (and ending it with “he’s in complete awe of you” WE LOVE A FULL CIRCLE TRANSITION)

and you KNOW that I’m in awe of be there for me. it’s such a flawlessly executed series and the way you were able to intertwine the topics of grief and love (which definitely isn’t an easy task) while simultaneously combining the perfect amounts of fluff and angst in your tale of falling in love in the shadow of grief is stunning.

when I first started reading it I had to force myself to put my phone down and take breaks in between. your writing is absolutely magical and I could 1000% get lost in it all day because every word leaves me in anticipation of what’s to come. and that’s exactly how this series is! every time a new chapter is posted I screech a little and stop what I’m doing so I can read it as soon as I possibly can.

oof this got long but I can’t help but gush over your writing! the fact that everything I read by you takes me on a rollercoaster of emotions and completely gets me lost in the wonderland you create is such a testament to your talent- thank you for sharing your work with us!! 💕

So, if you look at my followers I actually have 1,183, but that’s because this hasn’t always been Poe. I started this blog way back on Nov. 8, 2014 as Dean Winchester. It has gone through AT LEAST ten characters since then. So, a lot of these followers are dead accounts or abandoned accounts. However, when I started up Poe on here I made note that I had 1,083 followers. So, this is for the 100 of you that came here for my baby.

So, let’s get the follow forever out of the way. Let me start off by saying I’m going to forget people, I’m human. Also, I don't do very big follow forevers whenever I do them because I firmly believe in only having people who have had a very strong impact on me or Poe should be present on the list. That said, if you’re not on this list you are still very loved.

5. Do you have any poly ships?

Oh, tons!

My biggest one would probably be sorikai—Sora, Kairi, and Riku—from kingdom hearts. They’ve been besties for years in game and each of their goals in game is to, basically, return home and make sure the other two are safe. They’re best friends and i love them!!

There’s also Jlaireby, which is Jim, Claire, and Toby from Trollhunters. I ship them for the same reasons as stated above. These three have such good chemistry and they love each other so much!!!

There are various poly ships in MHA that are pretty cute too, like izuku, ochako and iida, or those three and todoroki, or kirishima, bakugou and kaminari, but I don’t actively ship these as much.

13. Has a ship ever broken your heart?

I don’t think so. I tend to ship the characters most likely to get together, so there’s normally no like “too bad these characters won’t ever get together”, and most of the time the shows I watch have happy endings. Also when it comes to romance, I normally respect whatever the writers choose to make canon, even if I didn’t really ship it (see allur//ance from vol//tron)

Midoriya Izuku has always been written off as weird. As if it's not bad enough to be the quirkless weakling, he has to be the weird quirkless weakling on top of it.

But truthfully, the "weird" part is the only part that's accurate. He's determined not to be a weakling, and in spite of what it says on paper, he's not actually quirkless. Even before meeting All-Might and taking on the power of One For All, Izuku isn't quirkless.

Not that anyone would believe it if he told them.

I am absolutely in love with this fic!!! it’s an au where Izuku has a quirk that allows him to see ghosts and it follows all the way to the Eri arc. It’s so so sooooo good and i HIGHLY recommend it.

Occurrences in the Lives of a Couple of Hopelessly Oblivious Dorks series by Cipher032

A series on the roller coaster that is high school relationships, platonic and otherwise, as Deku and Ochako proceed through their high school careers.

Includes New Horizons and Roads Well Traveled.

Yes this is a series and not a specific fic, but both New Horizons and Roads Well Traveled are really good!!! Either fic is from the point of view of Ochako and Izuku respectively and are about how the two of them navigate their second year while dealing with the ups and downs of their friendship and also as they figure out exactly how they feel for each other. It’s incredibly in character and I absolutely love how Cipher is writing it!!

Catching Up by EchoFour

After a couple of rogue gems put her life at risk, Connie questions everything. She's loved being a Crystal Gem for four years. Training and fighting at Steven's side give her whole life meaning. But as Steven has learned more about the power he possesses and grasped more of it for his own, she's worried she can't keep up.

But Connie Maheswaran has never been the kind of person to give up just because of a little thing like human limits. Whatever it takes, whatever she has to risk, she will find a way to catch up.

This was an incredibly interesting take on best girl Connie Maheswaran and also just a really cool idea in general. It’s now part of a series that has a sequel in the works, and it has some of that adorable Connverse, as well as one of my FAVORITE stevonnie scenes I’ve ever read in one of the later chapters sooooo yeah. FANTASTIC FIC.

Ben and May divorced before Peter’s parents died, so when Ben is murdered Peter goes into foster care. It takes just a tiny taste of superpowers for Peter to decide he doesn’t want to put up with his horrible foster father anymore—the streets are infinitely more appealing. All he wants is to be Spider-Man anyway.

So he leaves.

Simple.

Simple, that is, until Iron Man needs Spider-Man’s help. Peter isn’t about to turn down an opportunity to fight alongside Tony Freaking Stark, but he also isn’t going to let his hero know that his recruit is a fifteen-year-old homeless dropout. So they strike a deal. Peter will help Tony. In return, the mask stays on.

And that’s when things get complicated.

yes this is another series. yes it is Incredibly Long. yes it is REALLY. FUCKING. GOOD.

it was plotted and started pre-kh3 and it’s incredibly intriguing!!! very wonderful character development and realistic relationships, both good and bad, between different characters. No seriously though, this characterization is So Good. I only have two complaints, one of which is serious and the other of which is just bc im me lol.

1. Recently it’s been a little on the nose about its Life Lessons, if you will. It has good messages and stuff, but sometimes it feels kind of forced. Do Not Let This Stop You From Reading Though. It’s So Good.

2. Sora is in nearly every fic but rarely has an essential part to it and It’s Blasphemy. not really, but i love sora, he’s my son, and the fact he’s kinda been pushed to the backburner the whole time. it make SENSE why bc he doesn’t exactly need the development BUUUUUUUT i love him and want more of him.

Fanfiction Writer’s Appreciation Day

When I saw some other people making posts screaming positivity into the void of Tumblr, I knew that I couldn’t rest until I had too.

I don’t have near as much time to read fanfic as I used to, and I can’t remember the last time I regularly read fics that were longer than drabbles. If I read a long fic now, it’s solely because I want to see more by the fic’s author, and I want to spam all of their works w love.

In fact, my entire involvement w the fandom community has changed a lot over this calendar year: I’ve begun to actually interact w other creators and fans in the community, and that has come to be the most important part of fanfic for me. I’ve always loved the content, that’s what brought me here, but I’ve stayed for the people I’ve met and friends I’ve made.

So! This is a fairly-inclusive list of a WHOLE BUNCH of authors that I love and why I love you. <3 <3 In the spirit of Fanfic Writers’ Appreciation Day, here we go!

There is no one I can start w besides my irl best friend @strangenscary. Hanged Man convinced me to get a Tumblr, first off--I wouldn’t know any of you guys if she hadn’t talked me into that. And she’s also the reason I read Harry Potter! And, beyond just being a fantastic friend, she writes really awesome Kpop drabbles (that you should 100% check out if you like Kpop fandoms).

Then, next in the chronological order, is @jbankai89. I found their fic I Will Save Myself while searching for really angsty fics and have kinda been along for most all of the ride? The fic just ended a week or so ago and I rec it wholeheartedly--it’s got one of the best journeys through mental health healing and learning how to work out a relationship of anything I’ve read. I’m really glad I got to follow along w it!

I made a personal resolution to start commenting on fics and interacting w other authors about halfway thru I Will Save Myself. It was this decision that gave me the courage to leap into HP’s corner of Tumblr this past May, and by asking into Drarry fests I met @lettersbyelise! Elise is a beautiful lovely human being and I’m really glad I know her now! She introduced me to the Drarry Discord, which is how I met most all of the rest of you guys I’m about to rec.

@drarrymylove... Jeni is absolutely fantastic. I actually did follow her and read all of her everything before joining the Discord, and I was over the moon to get to interact w her. I beta’d her Drizzle and was internally fangirling so hard I had to take a break and chill out. You’re a super cool and special person I’m really glad to have met!!

@xx-thedarklord-xx is a fandom giant for really good reason. All of Sam’s fics are literary gold. She beta’d a drabble for me a couple months ago and I was starstruck, remembering spending long nights binging all of her fics. The Flower War fic was the first one she wrote since I’ve been following her and it’s one of my absolute favorites. If you’ve never read her stuff go find her!

@aibidil I’ve never interacted w much but seems like the helpful Mother of the Discord. She swoops in to save the day all the time and I’m always amazed. Not to mention her fanfic is incredible.

@l0vegl0wsinthedark, @goldentruth813, @snortinglaughter, @erin-riwen, @lqtraintracks, @carpemermaid, @synonym-for-life, @violetclarity, @bixgirl1, @writcraft, @parkkate, @harryandhislittledragon, @foularcadebanana, spookywoods and tari_vilya are all really cool peeps I know but haven’t interacted w enough to tell you specific awesome things about them, but they’re all great too! And their fic!!! All of their fic is entirely worth your while to check out!!

@drarrytingz, @ladybraken, @yosoylaborinquena, @gnarf, @unicornsandphoenix, @restlessandordinary, @slythrns-heir, @maesterchill, @breathofmine and @ununquadius are all fantastic people I’ve met thru beta’ing. Either I beta’d for them or them for me. Betas are such a huge huge part of fanfiction and such important people to writers I wanted to give y’all you’re own paragraph, but a number of you I’ve also gone on to get to know some of the best out of all of my online peeps!

ununquadius, goodness, I always get super excited when I see that you’ve written something! Every time! And even more when I get to beta it! <3 <3 We have, like, an actual author-beta thing going on and I think that’s the absolute greatest.

drarrytingz, gnarf, yosoylaborinquena, y’all are so nice and supportive and I love seeing you guys in my dash!!

@slythrns-heir deserves more accolades than I can come up w--from beta’ing to just generally appreciating authors and fans SO MUCH and doing so much for us and the community--you’re an absolute gem. <3 <3

@call-me-hopelesss is an awesome writer and I’ve been slowly chipping away at their Ao3 works for several weeks now, but that’s not what I think is the coolest, most mind-blowing thing about them. They leave some of the best comments I’ve ever seen, and they leave them all over!! I remember reading thru HD Birthday Bash and being really touched by how they’d left a really thoughtful comment on every fic. That kind of support is amazing, and you just blow me away. <3

@doubleappled, @nifflers-n-nargles, @llap115, and @harryromper are really really cool mutuals who I’ve really noticed thru fests. I always get really excited to see them on an author list for an anon fest, or commenting, or anything! They’re all as awesome as their works, and you should totally go check them out too!

But all of these peeps have been Drarry Discord peeps!! A few weeks after joining over there, I also joined the Tomarry Discord. As much as I love my Drarry friends my awesome Tomarry friends are a lot louder and talk a LOT so I really kinda know them a bit better.

@mirandaflamel, my wonderful owl wife, all of my love to you and your beautiful stories. @kuffymik, you and Meb terrify me just a little and I occasionally flee from your convos, but your writing is fantastic and I love you too. Same goes to @lord-of-the-snakes, tho I actually think I’ve known you the longest and that you’ve staked a place at the very very bottom of the Tomarry pit, so everything I said to Mik tenfold, really. @nencenedril, you sometimes seem to be the sane one and sometimes surprise me with how unusually creative you are. You’re really cool. <3 @cybrid, I followed your fics way before I realized that was YOU, and then I squeed a lot. But! You’re a fantastic author and mod and I’m really happy you stick around and join in on our insanity. I send my love to all of the other lovely writers I know on the Tomarry Discord whose Tumblrs I don’t know. (A special thx on this special day to Itsy’s perseverance w all of us)

@batsutousai gets a paragraph. If you’ve never read anything by Bats, you really really should stop everything and go read some of Bats’ fic. Any of Bats’ fics. They’re all legendary and deserve odes to be sung to them. I’ve held it in for this long so I might as well reveal that I’ve actually genuinely been following Bats since 2015, way before I knew anything about Harry Potter, bc her Marvel fics are also fantastic. When I got into HP I remembered that she’d also written for that fandom and went and read all of her stuff and that’s genuinely how I fell into the Tomarrymort pit. (thx Bats.) SO yeah, again, go check her out!!!!

While we’re on Marvel, @veliseraptor is someone I don’t think I’ve ever had the guts to speak to, but she is an utter legend as well and is rather solely responsible for the Stoki ship. I’d suggest giving her works a try if you don’t mind being pulled into a new ship--bc I would bet money you can’t read Lise’s works without getting pulled into Stoki, they’re so good. Kudos to a fandom goddess over there.

Back to HP, @asexual-lovegood and @rose-grangerweasleyisbae are my two all time favorite Tumblr drabble writers, so if you can it’s totally worth it to check them out. All of their stuff is gold. All of it.

To close up my really really long Author Love post here, I present to you Lomonaaeren, @renderedreversed, and wynnbat, who I’ve also never spoken to but when I try to think of mind-blowing, I-can’t-put-this-down fics by people I don’t really know, these are the three authors that come to mind.

I was reading your rules and had to ask: why pearlmethyst? Not trying to be rude! Just curious abour your take on the ship

* OKAY, this has been sitting in the askbox for a few days now. i've been kind of staring at it, trying to figure out how best to answer without writing a wall. i've had no success, so here goes anyway.amethyst is literally pearl's perfect other. amethyst is pearl's most ideal partner in every sense of that phrase. mind you, they can also be absolutely terrible for each other for the exact reasons that they're wonderful for each other. the relationship will only work if pearl and amethyst are healthier, more self-actualized individuals than they were in, say, season one. that having been said, here's why they work. i'm mostly going to be talking about this from pearl's point of view, because amethyst's pov is at the jurisdiction of the ever lovely @thuskindlyiscatter / @roughedaround.anyway, opposites attract. i know, i know — that's a cheap way to start off, but it's true! pearl needs someone to counteract her strict realism and rationalism, someone to make her laugh, someone to loosen her shoulders. not to quote becky, but remember how they said that opal is a peace pearl and amethyst can't really find on their own? they bring each other balance. it's that sweet, sweet "she was the kite and i was the line" dynamic. they suit each other perfectly in this regard; pearl grounds amethyst, and amethyst reminds pearl that it's okay to drift for a little while. like, at a most base level, amethyst brings such adventure and joy and laughter into her life, while also providing pearl with something to protect and care for. kill me.and in that vein, like. amethyst is a force of nature, you know? pearl loves adventure, but she has that good ol' fear of (large) change. amethyst is a constant, a touchstone; she's always there, a warm and familiar presence. and pearl doesn't even have the time to be paranoid about it! she tends to stew in her own anxiety and mull over every last potential bad outcome. she has difficulty reading other people sometimes, which mixes terribly with the fact that she's hypersensitive to atmospheres and mood changes. pearl can't read the room for the life of her, but she knows when something is awry. she's able to tell when something is even slightly wrong, but she won't be able to pinpoint it, and so she'll automatically make a mountain out of a molehill. she assumes the worst; her brain jumps to the "they're growing tired of me," "i've done something wrong," etc,. etc. and when pearl IS experiencing these fears, she gets to self-sabotaging. she starts desperately trying to circumvent them by behaving in ways that ultimately realize them. (i.e., isolating in hopes that the person will follow her or getting so unbearably, nervously clingy that she pushes them away)but amethyst never lets that happen in the first place! she never gives pearl the time to consider these stupid fucking fears! pearl can't sit and wonder if amethyst is getting bored of her when amethyst is in her face all the time like HEY, PAY ATTENTION TO ME, I ADORE YOU! and amethyst doesn't even do it on purpose, that's the funny thing. she's just naturally Like That. and amethyst is such an easy read too? there's virtually no guesswork!! amethyst is super transparent; you know when she is and isn't upset. it works perfectly for pearl.and i have more shit to say. like i could talk abt how important it is that amethyst is the only one of the crystal gems who hasn't experienced homeworld conditioning. i could talk about how pearl is a stupidly romantic individual and how she's so, so blown away by the fact that out of all the amethysts that could have emerged late, it was this one. it almost feels like fate! not that she believes in that sort of thing, of course. ...but god knows, sometimes, just sometimes, when they're lying down together and amethyst has defiantly made herself the big spoon despite the position being so awkward bc of their height difference — pearl can almost believe in destiny. every choice in her life has led her to this moment, this peace. a billion and one things could have happened to lead them in different directions, but here they are despite it all.AND OKAY WAIT HERE'S THE IMPORTANT THING: it isn't... obsessive. pearl's love for amethyst isn't a feverish, intense "i'm going to pour 100% of myself into this/you"; it's a very sweet, very calm "at last." it's a very simple "of course." in me and august's SACRED LORE, pearl and amethyst don't even HAVE a big confession or an "okay, we're together now" moment. it literally just sort of HAPPENS. like... they sink into each other over the period of a couple of months and reach an unspoken understanding. like JESUS CHRIST. ANYWAY, I'VE GONE ON TOO LONG SO JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. amethyst is pearl's perfect opposite, perfect other. thx for coming to jem's rock talk.
