Hi Doodle! I just wanted to say that I love your art and that it's so nice to know there's more people who were as confused and infuriated by how TotK turned out. My brain has unanimously decided to adopt most of your TotK Rewrite into my headcanons for game and manifest them into reality lol. I was just reading your post about your ability wheels ideas (awesome btw) and how you were unsure about what power Link would get from the Yiga and it made me wonder if you knew about the Yiga Clan side quests. If you collect all pieces of the Yiga set, they let you into the hideout where you can take a Blademaster exam and get the Earthwake ability. I was just curious to whether you actually knew about it or if you just didn't like that particular power, hope I didn't spoil it for you
Thank you and Thank you!!!! im still so glad that my rants seem to be more validating for people who feel the same rather than plain annoying xD
as of now im pretty sure i want to use the clone ability to be the one you get from Koga as it would be something more unique to him, references my HC of him having been a monk as old as Miz Kyoshia, and replaces the distraction and support in combat that youd lack since i removed the sage ghost buddies constantly being around you :D
the yiga stuff was literally my biggest motivator to keep playing bc i love them so much, i spent the majority of my playtime running around in the yiga set xD which is also why i never realized until way into the game that i wasnt a genius at sneaking around them nor that they are just so dumb they wont spot you ever but bc i had been wearing the set the entire time in the underground; the underground was one of the few things i pretty much 100%ed, excluding some annoying bossfights
i do know of the earthscroll and tried to use it alot but its but its got a very limited usefullnes due to the way its controlled and you having to unequip your weapon, which made me sad bc it was so cool to be able to interact with the yiga like that, its one of the few shiny good parts of totk imo, tho i think it was a huge missed opportunity to keep them as seperated from the main story still, they have so much lore and story potential you could have used or expanded upon :(
in my rewrite i had considered making your yiga ability related to it but it didnt quite work, partly bc they otherwise didnt seem connected to that element at all and shadow seemed like a better fit, so i assigned the earth magic more to ganondorf actually, due to him causing those massive earthquakes and having, somewhat literally, spread his roots into every part of hyrules underground, it connects well to the way i rewrote the memory system and ganondorfs bossfight too :3
i hope that answers your question!

(Feel free to ignore if you already got this)
Do you know how hard it was to pick just 5?
In no particular order:
Codywan spy fic that probably rewrote part of my brain and definitely has me waiting impatiently for a sequel (writing takes time, I know, but I will be reading it as soon as it comes out) which is by @tallnegotiations
Codywan fantasy AU with blind Obi-Wan and an arranged marriage. When I tell you that I think they've got the best blind Obi-Wan on AO3 I am not kidding. It's sweet and fluffy and caring and they're doing a rewrite which is also excellent! It's by @meantforinfinitesadness
How to bring him home has had me in tears, multiple times. The whole series has, but this one just makes my heart hurt in the best way possible. It's Night_Fury on AO3 which I think is @shootingstarpilot on here.
This is probably the longest fic I've loved but it's a good read, the plot is well thought out and the author is so lovely. I don't think they have tumblr.
Lastly, the ridiculously talented Frost who's art has generated several fics but more importantly, her fic solidified Codywan as my favourite pairing ever, in any fic I've ever read. I would like some of your talent, please?! @frostbitebakery
Also people who are that good that I cannot possibly pick any of their fics as my favourites but have definitely shaped me and my writing and possibly my now Codywan filled brain:
@afoundling (I love you so much and I can't wait for you to post one of your upcoming fics!!!)
@crownprincecody (Your doctor Codywan literally had me smiling with every word!)
@redminibike1 (I don't even know where to start with how good your fics are?! I want to hug you and tell you how much I appreciate your writing)
@glimmerglanger (Mostly the sanguine series, if you ever write more vampire Obi-Wan, I may actually want to kiss you)
@ijustreallylovedaredevil (I hope you're okay with me tagging you but your writing made me want to write and I can't get enough of it!)

43, 44, 45, and 49! 💕
Thank you lovely~! I was hoping I'd get more than one of these. <3 Hope you're ready for this answer lol
43. Title of a book you own that’s in the worst physical condition you have. Explain what happened to it. Post a picture if you want.
I waited till now to answer this cause I wanted to include a picture of my shame and these books were tucked safely away in the back of my bedroom bookshelf where my partner was sleeping so I couldn’t get them. Confession time: I love reading in the bath. And in the days before my waterproof ereader I have destroyed a book or two simply by rereading it and exposing it to my wet and wild habit over and over. Please don’t judge me for the severity of these pictures, it was a different time.
All trigger warnings for severely abused books apply.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That is my copy of The Good the Bad and The Undead by Kim Harrison which is the second book in her The Hollows/Rachel Morgan series and the first one I read after finding it in my dad’s rejected books pile. It’s probably the book I’ve reread the most besides Reaper Man by Terry Prachett as I recall finishing it on occasions and immediately restarting it. I loved it. I actually own three copies of this book. This one. A digital copy in a full series omnibus. And another copy of the paperback bought recently as I’d love to own the entire series so I’m trying to pick the ones I’m lacking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second is my copy of Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning this is the first book in her Fever series which I to this day haven’t finished but at the time it was a favored because of its interesting world building, angst ridden characters, and of course the sexy potential of its (poorly aged!) love to hate ‘em alpha-male romantic interests. Still I used to wait for each new book of the series to be available at the library and while I waited I used to reread my copy of this one to keep the characters fresh in my mind. Funfact: I also bought a digital bundle of this series which I was reading as my “work book” (the book I only read at work) for a while. And I made it all the way to where I originally stopped. The last book in the original series, book five: Shadowfever. I made it halfway through it when the lockdowns hit and at that point I didn’t want to start reading my work book at home so I still haven’t finished it. That’s probably ok though, while I enjoy the nostalgia of the characters and world it’s not so great in 2023!
So yeah I think they’re both pretty banged up but I think Darkfever might be a little worse? It certainly feels worse to the touch! Pages clumped and stuck together and edges destroyed. Its more waterdamaged at least, but the other one is split down the middle so I guess that’s also pretty bad! I'm posting both tho because the other one def looks worse.
44. The book(s) whose stories have become part of your very makeup.
Reaper Man. Dragonlance: Chronicles, Legends, Tales, the Lost Chronicles, and the Raistlin Duology in particular. The Count of Monte Cristo. Cyrano De Bergerac, The Art of Asking. American Gods. Countless short stories, fairy tales, myths and legends. The first six books of The Hollows series by Kim Harrison also need to be mentioned. Particularly the one above. You can’t imagine how mortified I was when I got my partner to read them and he commented “Hey, you, like, took some of your personality from these didn’t you?” Yeah. Probably bruh. But you don’t have to call me out like that.  Books five, seven, and eight of the Women of the Otherworld Series probably deserve an honorable mention for the same reason tbh. More recently I think the series of Bring Me Their Hearts, and The Library of the Unwritten definitely rewrote something in my brain.
45. What book(s) would you sell your soul to get a TV or movie adaptation of?
Listen the other day I was imagining a Monty Python style variety show adaption of Daniel M Lavery’s book Something that May Shock and Discredit You which a WILD PULL but the only answer I have for you right now. I think it would have animated parts like Python did but they’d be stylized like The Simpson’s animation. I don’t fantasize about adaptations but I think they really work best for children’s books so if you made me answer seriously I guess I’d go with The Tales of the Frog Princess by E.D. Baker and maybe that should’ve been in the question above too lol.
49. Do you prefer hopeful, humorous, very emotional or darker books?
I think I tend to err toward darker and angstier books. I get a lot of catharsis from them but I think most of the time books like The Bone Orchard or Leech or Iron Widow or whatever I’m reading that deals with dark topics usually benefit from that undercurrent of hope. I don’t think dark and emotional needs to lack hope and I tend to most enjoy ones that allow space for both.
That being said I read a lot and I think what I like most is having options and variety.

A bunch of theories about Lucy, NaLu & 100YQ’s endgame
This post was inspired by ch.102's events, which helped me work my brain and fill in a bunch of holes in some of my crack-pot theories that I've always had at the back of my mind.
Now I want to start by saying that I don't expect any of these theories to actually happen, but I personally find them interesting, so I thought I'd share. ^_^ These theories generally cover:
#1 Lucy being either cursed or corrupted when she re-wrote the book of E.N.D (by cursed I mean something close to what happened to Zeref and Mavis, and by corrupted I mean becoming partially or entirely etherious, basically - she now has a demon seed, like Natsu)
#2 How the end-game boss will be defeated (which is NaLu-related) #3 What the one wish that Elefseria will grant upon completing the 100YQ will be (which is Lucy-related if #1 is correct)
First, to jog everyone's memory a little bit and reiterate what I said in my first ch.102 post:
When Natsu was on the verge of death, Lucy rewrote the book of E.N.D and saved his life, but by doing so, she was partially corrupted by the book itself, which should've ultimately killed her, but instead, there were no severe consequences whatsoever.
Natsu's should've also died when Zeref did, but he didn't.
When this first happened, a popular theory was that by rewriting the book of E.N.D, Lucy unintentionally linked Natsu's life to hers instead of Zeref's, but that wasn't really confirmed or particularly hinted at. (After all, Lucy could've just wrote out the whole part of Natsu's life being linked to another. However, them being linked is still a possibility as it’s something that was neither outright confirmed nor denied)
After FT ended, and before 100YQ was a thing, I started religiously following whatever FT content I could salvage from Mashima's autograph sessions to twitter doodles. Two particular autograph sessions stood out to me. Or to be more correct, I'd say one of them stood out to EVERYONE - the one held in NYC, where Nasha and Greige were born - and one stood out to just me (as far as I know) - the one that was held in France. In France, a FT theorist (@/Nina2119deviantart to be more precise) met Mashima and gifted him some of their drawings, one of which was a fan-art of Lucy wearing a fanon black battle dress inspired by God Ankhseram (the god that cursed Zeref & Mavis), it was based on their theory of Lucy being Ankh's reincarnation just like Dimaria was Chronos' (I recommend watching their theories, they're interesting! They predicted the name of Lucy's book and the Iris/Lucy connection~). And apparently, Mashima took great interest in that drawing in particular, and looked at it a bunch of times. (Search their posts for their experience)
Then 100YQ started, and we were introduced to a character that was said to be as strong as Zeref: The White Wizard. At first, we thought that the White Wizard was Touka, and we also thought that Touka was in love with Natsu. Which is why many people remembered this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And thought of it as a hint of how NaLu would receive its canonization in the sequel not necessarily thru a battle till death, but by a rivarly that'd instigate development and realizations from each party (after all, Mashima did initially consider an explicit romantic subplot with Natsu and Lucy, but within a love triangle w/ Lis, altho he scratched it to avoid fandom wars... Which still happened anyways lmao), but there wasn't really anything linking Lucy to "black" like the White Wizard was linked to "White". But ofc, in my mind, I trusted Mashima would find a way to link Lucy to black considering he really liked Lucy's Ankhseram-inspired dress in that fan-art, and through Nasha and Greige he's proved that he's willing to incorporate fan-ideas in his stories that he personally took a liking to. And now that I've remembered Lucy being corrupted by the book of E.N.D, I think it'd be logical if she were to have an "Etherious" form/battle dress that is pitch black. (Natsu's etherious form is basically just him being covered in flames - his fire magic, but much stronger... or should've been if we actually saw shit from it lol, anywaaays) But ultimately, Touka ended up being an exceed that's in love with Happy, and neither her nor Faris were the real White Wizard from the legends to begin with. That being said, the White Wizard is still a thing, and she could be either be 100YQ's real end-game boss or a villain for a next gen story to handle. Lucy being previously corrupted by rewriting the book of E.N.D is still a thing as well.
If the story doesn't end at Ignia (and NaLu doesn't get canonized in his arc), I suspect the White Wizard plot will be *the* end-game for it all and Touka/Faris were the foreshadowings for it.
Now regardless of who's the end-game boss: I believe the way to defeat them would be either through a
-"The One Magic (Love)" Power-up OR
-An "Etherious/Demonic Powers" Power-up (I explained how Lucy could have those, and Aldoron confirmed that Natsu is still partly a demon and dragon despite the convo he had w/ Igneel in Alvarez. His strong resolve of being human merely inactivated his seeds enough for him to survive) OR
-both of them combined, all on top of a unison raid
Now about The One Magic (the "Love" interpretation of it, at least), it was *always* linked to Lucy. After all, she's the character Mashima chose to introduce this "concept" to the world of Fairy Tail through:
Tumblr media
Mavis also came up w/ the idea of killing Zeref through her love for him after witnessing Natsu and Lucy's.... uhhh- teamwork lol.
(Now personally speaking, I hated the whole fanservicy parts of the Jacob battle, so I couldn't take Mavis' "epiphanies" seriously when Mashima could've easily given us a more meaningful display from Natsu and Lucy to inspire her, but yeah, that did happen nonetheless)
Now in case Lucy's not an Etherious like Natsu who can just... live normally regardless of whatever's happening in her body, and she mayhaps has a nasty curse attached to her like Zeref and Mavis (albeit I can't predict its specifics- but it'd be something different from Zervis, but also not an enjoyable thing to have), OR if using Etherious powers against the final big bad has BOTH Natsu and Lucy cross the point of no return, where a simple "I'm actually a human not a demon or dragon or whatever!" cannot solve the problem anymore, I suspect Elefseria's One Wish could be the cure to everything:
Tumblr media
Now THAT would be a more satisfying way to kill Natsu's demon seed, and Lucy's as well if she has one. The dragon seed problem was already solved through Igneel, and was only being re-activated through the demon seed, but without it, Natsu's as human as he wants and wishes to be.
And like - as far as the other Team Natsu members go - Wendy and Gray's wishes (having a big chest/a cat like Frosch) are shallow af so you can scratch them, & Erza doesn't seem to have anything in particular on her mind. A wish granted from such a tedious quest needs to be meaningful, and that's what I think it'll be.
Either ways, only time will tell~

Queen’s Thief Appreciation Week(s) Day 1: The Thief in which we explore Gen’s journey, Hamilton-style
Hello! When I started thinking about participating in queen’s thief appreciation weeks this year—for the first time, as I only started reading the books a little over a year ago—I got a bit overwhelmed by all the possibilities and by all of the seriously impressive art, writing, and jokes/memes/etc. I’ve seen from other people. Then I realized that, much like Alexander Hamilton as portrayed in the musical Hamilton, Gen is a bastard who spent some time living in squalor and ended up a hero with his face on some currency. Anyway, I decided to rewrite a bunch of songs this week, so here is the first one. It does make reference to…pretty much every book that comes after The Thief, but it’s an introductory sort of song, and I tried to keep it focused mostly on events that happen fairly early on.
I didn’t assign particular characters to sing different parts like in the original except in the last bit of the song, but when I started writing this I had it in my head that it was the Magus narrating mostly, until I realized that it was probably Pheris. It can, of course, be whoever you’d like.
Thanks to @thecrenellations for the very helpful editorial feedback and for being the reason I read this book in the first place!
Attolis Eugenides
How does a bastard, goatfoot, son of a thief’s heir From Eddis, caught in the middle of a wine shop With the commoners, by foolish plans imprisoned In squalor, grow up to be a hero and an Annux?
The double stater, a young schemer who lost his mother Got a lot farther by following his grandfather By being a lot smarter By being a bit of a bother By fifteen*, they made him join a covert endeavor
And every day through Sounis, he boasted at the wine shops While spies were watching, he tried to keep his guard up Inside, he had a plan of his own, and on behalf of His queen, he was willing to lie, steal, hide, or show off
But he needed something more, he needed to get noticed To be a local, skillful thief who nobody would miss Put an ink pen to his temple, connected it to his brain Wrote his own court records, a history he’d feigned
Well, the word got around, they said this kid can steal anything Took him from the prison cell to send him on an undertaking Earn your reputation, don’t reveal from whence you came And more than dust will know your name What’s your name, Thief?
Gen, short for Eugenides His name is Gen, short for Eugenides He can do anything he wants Just you wait, just you wait
When he was ten his mother fell from the roof after dancing Five years later** his father sent him off, financing His theft, making him flee for his protection And eventually he won the Magus’s affection
Snuck into Attolia, but their queen cut his hand off Left him with nothing but ruined pride, nightmares, lingering love A voice said, “Stop whining, you’ve got to make a new plan” He started retreating and scouting on the enemy’s land
There would’ve been nothing left to do for someone less astute He would’ve been useless, all alone, without his former resolution Started speaking, outlining his plan before the council Convinced the queen and anybody else who still was doubtful
Gathering all the wooden cannon he could get his hand on Planning for the future see him now as he stands on The edge of a river headed for a new land In Attolia, you can be the new king
In Attolia you can be the new king Just you wait!
Gen, oh our Eugenides Three countries rely on you You could never think first But you can steal peace and time
Oh, Attolis Eugenides When the Peninsula praises you Will they know what you overcame? Will they know you rewrote the game? The world will never be the same…
He’s high king in Attolia now See if you can spot him They underestimated what he could do for them His enemies, they tried to win, but nobody could thwart him
MINISTER OF WAR, TELEUS, COSTIS: We fought with him KAMET, MAGUS: We respected him RELIUS, PHERIS: We trusted him IRENE, HELEN: We loved him SOPHOS: And me? I shot the ambassador because of him!
He can do anything he wants Just you wait What’s your name, King? Attolis Eugenides Eugenideides!
*Probably. **Approximately.

51-54, give me your headcanons
Aww thanks, Auby!! I decided to lean in and had a lot of fun with these.
51. Favorite Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor headcanons (any or all)?
GOSH, this is so broad! I’ll go with some HCs for my characters that are a little unusual and/or contradict things established in canon.
Beatrice Cousland - Morrigan performs the dark ritual with Alistair without Beatrice’s knowledge or consent. For those unfamiliar with Beatrice’s story, she and Morrigan get a slowburn romance throughout the events of Origins that has a pretty different trajectory from Morrigan’s canon romance. On the eve of the final battle, Morrigan proposes the ritual, and Beatrice flatly refuses to ask Alistair to go through with it. She is perfectly content to sacrifice herself, do her duty as a Grey Warden, etc, plus she argues that this ritual is just a final way for Flemeth to exert control over Morrigan’s life. But Morrigan can’t bear to lose Beatrice, and she feels she has very legitimate reasons for wanting an Old God Baby that her lawful good gf doesn’t understand. So after Beatrice falls asleep, Morrigan sneaks out and convinces Alistair herself. Beatrice is shocked and upset when she makes the final blow and lives through it. Her time during Awakening is spent with Big Angst trying to figure out why Morrigan would go behind her back, why she would leave afterword, and how the heck is Beatrice gonna find her swamp witch gf again.
Edric Surana - By the end of Origins, my boy’s personality is 50% mage rights, 30% wanderlust, and 20% spite. He has no desire to stick around and be Warden-Commander. He can’t bear to be told what to do or to give other people orders anymore. He also shirks his duty because he and his BFF, unhardened King Alistair, end the game on tense terms, since Alistair doesn’t want to be king and Edric thinks he needs to suck it up. After Edric survives killing the archdemon (in this worldstate, Morrigan’s ritual is very much an awkward act of wlw/mlm solidarity), Edric and Zevran leave for Antiva together. Edric is an active participant in Zevran’s quest to hunt down and kill Crow masters, which pleases them both immensely. I’ve got a vague idea that Edric actually shows up in Kirkwall with Zev during the events of DA2.
Anias Hawke - like many Hawkes, she is a disaster, but I think in her own special ways. She goes from “bright-eyed refugee trying to do the right thing” to “overtired bureaucrat/public figure, constantly thwarted at doing the right thing” to “washed-up celebrity who spends too much time drinking with Isabela on weeknights and Aveline on weekends.” Probably my most unusual headcanon about her is that I simply rewrote the whole end of Act 2 / beginning of Act 3 because I was so mad she didn’t immediately get to have a follow-up conversation with Isabela about stealing and returning the Tome of Koslun. Anias is doggedly persistent and simply would chase Isabela to the city gates if she had to. This short, kind of mediocre fix-it dialogue was my earliest foray into DA fanfic, before I even knew there was an active fandom :’)
Bastien Adaar - Only 15 hours into my first playthrough of this game, so everything about Bastien is subject to change! I’ve been toying with the idea of roleplaying her as a faithful Andrastean who genuinely thinks she might be the chosen one? I don’t see that much with Inquisitors, especially with an Adaar, so I’m trying it out and seeing where it gets me.
52. Favorite non-Player Character headcanons?
Kirkwall feels so lived-in! My brain is full of specific ideas for the ways the DA2 companions spend their time away from Hawke’s missions. Merrill spending time with Alienage kids and telling them Dalish stories about elven heroes :’) Anders’ clinic is always busy, but every day is a different adventure - delivering babies, curing food poisoning, unexpected veterinarian queries that he’s 100% unqualified to answer but he’s so beloved by Darktown residents that people go to him, anyway. Fenris devotes serious time to learning to read, but I also like to think (after a particular Sebastian party banter) that he decides to teach Alienage elves how to fight. Aveline on the slow, tragic slide from ‘daily city patrols’ to ‘daily office paperwork.’
53. That One Headcanon that hurts to think about?
I love thinking about Taliesen and Zevran re-meeting in Denerim. I HC that Taliesen still has “yeah, we’re best friends! also, would definitely still sleep with you if you asked” feelings for Zevran. But since Zev’s actually experienced some personal freedom + healthy relationships by this point, his feelings about Taliesen are complicated at best. You know when you’ve grown and changed a lot, but somebody from your past shows up, and they haven’t changed at all? And they still have all their old flaws and lame ambitions? Must be an incredibly bittersweet moment for Zev - confronting his changed circumstances and how much he’s grown, but also confronting the realization that he doesn’t have any choice about killing his other lover, too.
54. Fluffiest headcanon ever?
Gosh… everything about Beatrice and Morrigan after the events of Origins’ DLCs. When they finally meet up again, perhaps a year or two after Witchunt, they are finally able to admit the depth and complexity of their feelings, and begin to reconcile their very different worldviews. They settle down in Orlais together, they’re very good moms to Kieran, Beatrice hangs out around the Orlesian court being a chill knight, probably stealing kisses with Morrigan in alcoves that aren’t as private as they think. I commissioned art of them at this point in their lives just to indulge my desire for fluff.

Slow day at work and I have Lufia on the brain, so I’m gonna rate the original Rise Of The Sinistrals designs against the remake Curse Of The Sinistrals redesigns.
Maxim
Tumblr media
vs
Tumblr media
I honestly don’t have strong feelings about either Maxim design. They’re both good Main Character Designs, one for a strongly medieval flavored world and one for an anachronistic world. I will say the redesign has a little more character; I like the waist wrap in particular.
Winner: Curse of the Sinistrals
Tia
Tumblr media
vs
Tumblr media
Honestly... this is one where they changed her personality enough that she might as well be a different character. I like the weapon suitcase - it makes sense considering RotS!Tia owned a weapon shop - but I also like the idea of her beating up monsters with a ribbon.
Verdict: A tie; given my way I’d frankenstein them together. I’d also kinda like to see boisterous new Tia with old Tia’s design, OR milder old Tia with new Tia’s design.
Guy
Tumblr media
vs
Tumblr media
I’ll be honest: I didn’t like Guy’s new look at first. But it did grow on me - especially when you take his rivalry with Dekar into account (see below). Still, I feel like the original look suits his personality a bit better.
Verdict: Rise of the Sinistrals by a very slim margin.
Selan
Tumblr media
vs
Tumblr media
Oh I LOVE the new one. The old Selan is beautiful and elegant, but the new one is both while looking more like the military commander she is. Very nice. The pigeon-toed stance is a little odd, but I’ll let it slide. This time.
Verdict: Curse of the Sinistrals. She’s so cool!
Dekar
Tumblr media
vs
Tumblr media
BOTH VERY GOOD. About the only problem with the old version is that is doesn’t really get Dekar’s outgoing, silly personality across - otherwise, very cool! Meanwhile the new Dekar makes his rivalry with Guy ten times funnier - the two of them competing to see who’s stronger and Dekar winning every time is amusing enough with the old designs, but Huge Guy constantly being outdone by a man half his size who doesn’t even seem to bother with armor or weapons is hilarious.
Verdict: ALL DEKARS ARE VALID. (it’s be neat if New Dekar had a baby blue streak in his hair to echo old Dekar’s red, though.)
Lexis
Tumblr media
vs
Tumblr media
Eeeeengh. The Doc Brown reference is all well and good, but I like the scrappy Lexis who actively participated better. I could jive to the Doc Brown wannabe being the mentor to Lexis, but... he doesn’t feel like Lexis.
Verdict: Rise of the Sinistrals stands on his own better, I think.
Artea
Tumblr media
vs
Tumblr media
....eh. Admittedly this is another case where the original art doesn’t get the personality across - in-game, it’s much clearer that Arty is for all intents and purposes a teenager - but the new version feels more generic. It doesn’t help that they traded Artea’s vibrant, sometimes-contentious personality for a stereotypical Aloof Elf in the remake, which... DOES come across in the art. Credit where it’s due though, giving him a gun is incredibly funny.
Verdict: Rise of the Sinistrals has more personality in design, even if his character doesn’t quite come across.
Iris
Tumblr media
vs
Tumblr media
VERY NICE. Iris’ new design has a perfect mystical vibe! I have no idea what they were going for in the old one and to be honest she looks too much like Artea.
Verdict: Curse of the Sinistrals. No contest.
IN CONCLUSION both have gorgeous art with pros and cons to most of the designs! It’s unfortunate that CotS cut and changed so much of the original’s world and quests and rewrote Artea and Lexis to such detriment (Tia is much closer to her original self, just louder); its to the point where it feels more like an AU than a remake.
But I like both! There’s a lot to love in both games, and while RotS is a fuller experience there are plot changes in CotS that I DO like, so... I dunno, a rewrite where I just cobble what I like about both together has its temptations.
