Jenna, can you give us a rundown of who these Saw people are for everyone who follows you but has not seen and will never see the Saw franchise?
ok my beautiful and very accepting followers gather round i am going to try to provide you some basic context to these characters that feature heavily on this blog these days, and i HAVE smoked a bowl of weed already
majorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr fucking series spoilers for anyone who might actually kind of be interested
mkay first of all despite what my blog might lead you to believe, this guy is like. the OG antagonist. the main dude for the whole franchise even when hes not technically present for most plotlines. all of his scenes are baller af
Tumblr media
his name is John Kramer and he is the original Jigsaw Killer. He truly believes he can rehabilitate people who dont appreciate their lives (or commit crimes or take advantage of people) by putting them in saw traps. he pretends its not personal but it totally is. hes always putting people he personally beefs with in traps.
hes deeply fucked up but also really fascinating tbh like the whole fun of his character is seeing what reason hes gonna come up with to justify his next atrocity and how he manipulates everyone around him into doing his bidding. hes a mastermind. hes also Peepaw. Peepaw is kind of crazy but we love Peepaw
This is Billy hes a puppet
Tumblr media
Billy is good
This is Adam Stanheight everyones favorite dead boy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hes so funny and charming and is also such a sopping wet pathetic sad rat. everyone loves Adam. We love pretending Adam is gonna come back but hes been super dead for years
This is Lawrence Gordon the guy he was stuck in the bathroom with and he does, yes, saw his foot off to free himself from his chain. hes an oncologist
Tumblr media
everyone loves shipping him with Adam, thats called Chainshipping and its very cute but also very sad
Tumblr media Tumblr media
esp because Lawrence turns to the dark side and becomes an apprentice to Jigsaw and never went back to save Adam like he PROMISED what the FUCK
Tumblr media
but also i love Apprentice!Lawrence because of all the nutty implications and what other fun it has given us (such as AUs where Adam lives and even sometimes joins Lawrence as an apprentice himself)
This is Amanda Young she has many,. haircuts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I LOVE HER I LOVE HER I LOVE HER I LOVE HER I LOVE HER I LOVE HER I LOVE HER 😭😭😭😭 Shes an apprentice to Jigsaw and his pseudo adopted daughter and they have such a fucked up and tragic found family with each other.
i love that shes messy and emotional and vengeful and sarcastic and battling personal demons and questioning whether John's "rehabilitation" method really works (aka saw traps) and being unsure if she can take up the mantle when he passes. but he believes in her. and god they make me fucking emotional
this is Lynn Denlon shes a doctor kidnapped to treat John's cancer. and people ship her with Amanda, thats Shotgunshipping. it goes pretty hard tbh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
like their scenes go fucking crazy through a shipping lens oh my fucking god. actually they all do tbh thats part of the fun of shipping in this franchise
oh boy big sigh here we go
this is Detective Mark Hoffman who is unfortunately my favorite character and i am REALLy high now. if u ever get confused like MANY of us did, you can recognize him by his bitch lips and/or boobies. ugh im gonna throw up i hate his ass
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
that last one oh my fucking god
anyway hes actually awful but i love him so much and at first i was scared that i was the only one who did LMAO.. anyway he also gets recruited by Jigsaw as another apprentice when he was in a very dark place, having just killed the murderer of his little sister. he made it look like a saw trap to frame Jigsaw.
but Jigsaw found out & was like nuh uh bitch you're working for me now, or else I'm telling on you.
But then Hoffman was like guess what bitch I LOVE it here and i LOVE killing. he becomes the Jigsquad problem child and proceeds to kill or manipulate everyone he needed to so he could be the sole "Jigsaw" remaining. But he's sloppy and paranoid af so the FBI is on his ass from day 1. And the more he kills, the sloppier he gets, and the more frantic and unable to dig himself out of this hole he gets. and the more violent and crazy he gets. But the more crazy he gets, the more he keeps evading death like a cockroach. For real, watching his downfall was the major appeal of his character for me, and the start of my downfall..ing in love with him. lord almighty
anyway everyone hates his ass and we LOVE bullying him!!!!! he deserves it. for all of the atrocities hes committed and also because hes such a smarmy little shit. even Amanda bullies him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then we have Peter Strahm who shows up and hates Hoffman immediately, as you do. u can tell its him from his ridiculous eyelashes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and, YEAH, YOUVE GUESSED IT......... PEOPLE LIKE TO SHIP HIM WITH HOFFMAN.......... I KNOW..... RIGHT.... COULDNT BE ME.......
Because he is Hoffman's biggest adversary for two movies, knowingly in one. It's a classic cat and mouse game.
Anyway we love Peter Strahm!!!!! He's also an asshole! He's extremely hotheaded and short tempered but extremely passionate about the case. like, his dedication goes crazy. He's also quite the sassy bitch himself
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but its BECAUSE he is also caring and emotional, especially towards his work partner Lindsey Perez WHO WE LOVE BECAUSE SHES AMAZING AND CARING AND SHE'S BEEN PETER'S PARTNER AND FRIEND FOR 5 YEARS THEY CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER I LOVE THEM
Tumblr media
and those are the characters but ur probably like "what the fuck is up with the glass coffin" well my friends that is what us Hoffstrahmers refer to as our roman empire.
um i ran out of room for pictures :) but by now yall have seen the two traps reblogged and drawn by me a BILLION times, and those are: the water cube trap, and the glass coffin
so the deal with those:
the water cube trap: Strahm runs off to find Jigsaw himself after wildly following clues with no backup because he's so worked up from Perez getting hurt earlier and he sets off on revenge immediately. Hoffman catches him and puts him in the water cube.
It's meant to just kill him. he wasnt supposed to survive it. but Strahm is suddenly the main character when he fucking survives an unwinnable saw trap the fuckin crowd goes wild, it was fuckin sick dawg
and then through a series of Hoffman backstory flashbacks that he daydreams, he figures out the entirety of Hoffman's real secret identity and sets off to go catch him
and thats when he finds:
The Glass Coffin Trap: the instructions on the Jigsaw tape tell him to get into the coffin, it will hurt him but he will have a chance to survive. "do you trust me?" but he KNOWS its Hoffman and he doesnt trust that motherfucker so he doesnt get in. Hoffman approaches the scene, they get in a scuffle, and Strahm pushes him into the coffin and seals it.
Tumblr media
but hoffman is like "neener neener poopoo you're an idiot" and tells him to listen to the rest of the tape. which tells him that if he doesnt get in the coffin, he's gonna fuckin die bro lmao rip
and so he does! hoffman, in the coffin, sinks into the ground like some cartoon villain and the walls close in and squeeze Strahm to death
anyway at first Coffinshipping to me was kind of a joke like just classic Asshole x Asshole, Enemies to Lovers, Hero x Villain shenanigans. Teehee what if they KISSED... in the COFFIN... and all.
but then i read exactly 1 fic and i was completely convinced entirely of the angst possibilities of these two. the "what if"s that were possible with them. the little Hoffstrahm community i found has been so fucking awesome their ideas are so fucking fun, and I'm having so much fun thinking of art of them and fics of them and ugh i love it here

🐇 😎 🦋🥳 🦈
🐇 Do you write for yourself, for others, or both?
Both!! I got my start with fic writing for a super small fandom back in 2020 and was mostly writing for myself at that point, but when I left that fandom and joined a REALLY big one I started writing for my own benefit and because other people enjoyed (and, thankfully, still seem to enjoy) the stuff that I put out. I write because I love it and because I know at least someone will, too, and that makes the experience of fic writing really enjoyable and rewarding for me.
😎 What fics do you prefer on a scale of canon compliant to wildly original?
Depends on the fandom!! When I write for a fandom like the shadow and bone series, I don't typically diverge too far from the canon except with the crows (I will forever choose to let Matthias live because it's what he deserved) but within fandoms like the saw fandom? I will have Adam survive the bathroom trap in every fic I write because I LOVE HIM and HE DESERVED TO LIVE. I like canon divergence in that regard because it means I can write an au where Lawrence just spends an entire two minutes admiring Adam as he acquaints himself with a stray cat he's never met before and it's just fine.
🦋 Which character is your favorite to write?
ADAM STANHEIGHT!! I have loved him relentlessly since I first watched the first movie back in like, july-ish?? and when I opened up reqs for him I knew he'd be my favorite off the bat and I was right.
🥳 Why did you start writing fanfic?
I started because the fandom I was in when I got into fanfic writing was really small and there weren't a whole lot of fics for it but I was like "I wanna change that. so many r gonna come out bc of my silly goose butt" and then I wrote a whole lot for like, a year-ish and then I dipped because I lost interest lol.
🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?
MARK HOFFMAN. AND ALSO S T R A H M. AND ALSO AMANDA. I love them all SO MUCH but I have yet to be confident in the pieces I've released that have them in them, as I've only seen the films they're in once (with the exception of amanda as I rewatched the first saw film last month) and so a lot of the time I read what I've written for them and am like "okay but. what. is this accurate to how they are."

I’m curious, do you have any hopes/predictions for Saw X?
so like. my knowledge of the series doesn’t extend very far past the original 7-film cycle? i’m very familiar with the events of all of those, even if i haven’t seen them. i know... a bit.... about jigsaw 2017, and i actually don’t know much of anything about spiral! which i’m trying to keep that way so i’ll have SOMETHING i can watch and be surprised. all of that to say that i’m not super sure what to expect from saw X!
i guess it depends on where on the timeline it falls? if it’s going to be a spiral sequel then i don’t have anything to say about it because well, i don’t know anything about spiral!! but i HAVE seen rumors that it’s gonna take place between 2 and 3 and like... i’ll be honest i would rather them do just about anything than that. it’s not a matter of not wanting to see more of that setting and those characters, the amanda trilogy is everything to me, but like. the original timeline is already SO fucking bloated and convoluted bc they kept doubling back to add more. and the trilogy wrapped everything up so well! we don’t need to go back and complicate things! not least of which bc the cast is all so much older now, and i’m not confident that they would be handled well or even asked back. (<- guy who is bitter that cary’s said he’s willing to come back and play lawrence but LG probably won’t ask him back bc he looks “too old” or some stupid shit like that)
honestly, my IDEAL saw X would be like... something that picks up the loose threads that never got picked up from the original cycle. what became of daniel matthews? what are alison and diana up to these days? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO CORBETT DENLON???? it would be fun to see what those characters are doing! and i think it could also be fun to do like.... idk i know 6 and 7 already kind of did the “battle for john’s legacy” plot between hoffman and jill, but i think it would be fun if X had lawrence emerging from the shadows to go head-to-head with logan. i know we all hate logan and think he’s boring but the thing is, logan’s backstory gives lawrence a TON! of reason to hate him!!!! a movie where lawrence starts out trying to just bump off the new jigsaw copycat, only to find out about his shared past with logan and get inspired to hunt him down for more personal reasons..... it would be so good. and since it would be a proper sequel and NOT timeline fucky bullshit, there wouldn’t be any issue w cary looking older!
ANYWAYS yeah idk. i’m cautiously optimistic but i also feel like it’s just gonna end up being trash whatever it is. my desire to see lawrence and amanda again vs my fear that they’ll undergo character assassination if they DO come back

The silly nonsense is pretty much the point of the saw franchise, i mean whatever actually worthwhile content there was had long been squeezed out of that stone by the third film tops, the fun came from seeing what monumentally stupid reveals where gonna happen while 'hello zepp' played in the last 5 minutes.
Oh, you're absolutely right, it's very dumb but I'm having a blast MST3King it with my family and making fun of all the nonsensical decisions and wacky "twists" (my personal fave atm is when they played Hello Zepp at the beginning of 4, I thought they should've played the credits then as a gag)
The only things that frustrates me are how much they squandered Amanda, but I always liked Amanda so I'm a little biased. I was really looking forward to what they would do with her after 2 and then when they were like "we're gonna replace her with... some guy!" I was like "noooo D:" lol
And that when I originally watched 4 I straight up could not tell Hoffman and Strahm apart (since they look similar, wore similar clothes, and had similar professions) so when they did The Big Reveal I had no idea who it was lol I could tell them apart better this time but they really do look way too similar for not actively being used to trick the audience imo
But the hoops they keep jumping through to have twists are indeed hilarious and fun to watch

Listen Closer - Chapter 4
[ girl help i can't stop writing this ]
First || Next || Previous || Last
He woke up to someone pounding on the door, which only successfully left a pounding in his head, therefore setting him up to be a little bitch for the rest of the day.
Since he was off on weekends, he usually spent them working on traps, or helping facilitate traps for John. Today was Sunday, which meant he needed to spend the whole day working on the furnace, or it wouldn’t be finished in time, which is probably why someone was banging on his door.
That realization didn’t make him any less pissed.
After a moment of fumbling around blindly without opening his eyes, he grabbed something solid and flung it vaguely at the door. He heard it hit the metal door with a thunk, followed by someone cursing in surprise. Amanda. Of course.
“Sorry ‘Manda!” he tiredly yelled at the door, having expected it to be John or Hoffman. Amanda never woke him up because she never had the courage to- not that he would scare her on purpose.
“I’m gonna get you back one day,” Amanda replied, giving the door one last bang before retreating back to her work.
It took a good few minutes, but Garrett finally rolled directly out of bed, hitting the concrete floor with a groan. After yet another few minutes, he properly got up, finally taking that shower he didn’t have the energy for last night before getting dressed.
Logically he should wear things that would be good to weld in but he was gay, and dressed like it. So he simply pulled up the sleeves on his cropped sweater and prayed to whatever god that would listen that his exposed midriff would not get burned.
He emerged from his room only to retrieve his goggles- which he hadn’t meant to leave out on one of the public tables- before retreating back to his personal workshop.
The furnace was so close to done, really just needing some closed up gaps and other various touch ups, plus he needed to make sure the trigger for the flames worked. He could finish that in a day if he started early enough, so he dove into it.
A few times he could hear the door open and close, either Amanda or Nar coming in to make sure he wasn’t secretly dead or injured. Occasionally they brought him a glass of water too, or tried to have a conversation. They only sometimes got a response.
“How long have you been working?” Narcissus asked, setting a new glass of water on the desk next to where Garrett was sitting. “Have you taken a break in the last hour? You know you can’t work non-stop without a break.”
Garrett knew he wasn’t just going to leave without getting a response this time, so he leaned back from his work and pulled his goggles down so they hung around his neck. “I need to get this done,” he said, gesturing to the furnace, “the game is starting next week. This is like, a huge part. Everyone’s counting on me.”
“Please get therapy for that,” Nar replied, surprising Garrett enough that he let out a sharp laugh, quickly turning away to hide his grin. “Don’t launch into a spiel about how this IS therapy, I get enough of that from Amanda. But seriously, you need to take breaks. If you work yourself to death, you won’t be of use to anybody, least of all John.”
He, unfortunately, had a point. Garrett didn’t like accepting defeat, but he could at least get something to eat. “Alright, fine, but if this is some kind of ploy to get me to interact with people, I’ll lose it.”
Nar chuckled at that, patting Garrett on the shoulder as he headed over to the door. With a sigh, Garrett stood up and followed, making a beeline for where they kept snacks for while they were working. Now that he realized he hadn’t eaten all day, he felt like he was dying.
“So he lives,” Hoffman spoke up, scaring the shit out of Garrett, who hadn’t seen him in his rush to get something to eat. “We were beginning to worry you had gotten hurt in there and were just too prideful to ask for help.”
“I think out of everyone here, I’m the least likely to just die for the sake of my ego,” Garrett retorted, grabbing a mysterious muffin he didn’t know the origin of to be his very late breakfast. Or would it be lunch at this point?
He took a bite into the muffin, letting out a sigh of relief when he didn’t die instantly.
Amanda was known for baking stuff for the apprentices, but she wasn’t very good at it if it wasn’t strawberry shortcake specifically or donuts. Since the muffin wasn’t the worst thing he’d ever bitten into, his second guess was that Nar baked them instead. He tended to be able to bake without accidentally introducing poison to the ingredients list.
“Don’t you have a real job to be at?” Garrett asked, leaning back against the table Hoffman was seated in front of, standing next to him, like an idiot. “You know, pretending to be on the good guy’s side, throwin’ off the trail…”
Hoffman just looked at him like he was insane. “You do realize that detectives don’t spend most of their time in the precinct, right? No one is going to question why I’m not there. They’ll just call me in if they need me.”
Can’t imagine having a job like that. “Right, right. Have y’all ‘found’ Cara’s body yet? I wanna watch when you do.” Through the cameras, of course. Garrett found it amusing to be right next to a police investigation and, since he covered the ‘on’ light on cameras he used, they never knew he was there.
“What?” Hoffman asked after a moment of bewildered silence, and Garrett vaguely recognized what he said was weird but simply stared back at the detective.
“I said I want to watch. It’s fun watching cops scramble around for an answer, like they did when they discovered my game. One of them threw up when they realized it was teeth marks in that bastard’s throat. So, let me know when you ‘find’ the body.”
Garrett looked away, returning to his muffin, leaving Hoffman to process the fact that he DESPERATELY needed real therapy.
He went to continue the conversation, maybe to learn WHY Garrett was so weird about watching the investigation, but his phone cut him off. “Hoffman,” he greeted when he answered, immediately catching Garrett’s attention. “Right,” he continued after a moment, tucking the phone between his ear and shoulder as he pulled out a notepad and a pen.
After a few “uh-huh”s and “got it”s, Hoffman had an address scribbled down- one Garrett immediately recognized as where his game had taken place. “Speak of the devil…” he muttered, gaining a somewhat concerned look from the detective.
“I’ll be there soon,” Hoffman said into the phone, grabbing it from his shoulder and flipping it shut. “I assume I’ll be meeting you there,” he told Garrett, before standing up and heading out. Garrett watched him leave, just like he did last night, except this time he wasn’t out of the door before Garrett was following.
---
Garrett actually ended up getting a ride from Hoffman, which was undoubtedly awkward.
They hadn’t been in this confined of a space together yet, and Garrett was making it a point to not look at Hoffman, which in turn just made Hoffman nervous because usually that means someone is about to lash out.
It was not a pleasant trip.
Garrett practically lunged out of the car when they arrived, moving much faster than Hoffman thought he could in order to avoid detection by the police. The last thing he saw was Hoffman getting out to greet another cop before he was sneaking into the building through one of the windows.
The building had two floors- the room he used for the game was on the bottom floor, and the room he had the monitoring equipment set up in was on the top floor. The building was easy to scale, which is why Garrett had no problem getting up there. He wasn’t worried about being found either, because he blocked off the door to the room when he left after the game.
He would take every possible precaution under the sun not to be found if it meant he got to watch the chaos he created unfold.
Garrett dropped to the floor from the window as quietly as possible, avoiding any chance of the floor creaking as he made his way over to the single monitor set up for the game. He clicked it on, and settled down in the chair in front of it.
The camera came to life almost immediately, and he grinned at the sight of the crime scene.
They’d moved Cara out of the iron maiden, which was a little disappointing but understandable, since they needed to inspect her body.
He couldn’t hear what they were saying, having turned off the sound just to be safe. If he knew any more about this investigation than what he could see and slipped up… he just knew he couldn’t let that happen.
So he settled for silence, instead reading their lips as best as he could.
At some point, they’d closed the box, though he wasn’t sure why. Did they put the key back in there? Were they using it to store the tape recorder, which was nowhere to be found despite Garrett leaving it right where Cara had dropped it?
It was odd, and Garrett didn’t like not knowing why they had done it. He would ask Hoffman later.
Speaking of the detective, Hoffman looked very… in his element here, in the middle of a crime scene. He looked confident and sure of himself, which Garrett didn’t see much back at the Jigsaw base. Maybe it was because they didn’t talk often, or Hoffman just still wasn’t sure about this whole apprentice thing. Either way, he was very attractive when he knew what he was doing.
Garrett also noted that Hoffman didn’t struggle even a little bit to pretend he had no idea who had done this, or deciding he simply didn’t see the difference between a normal Jigsaw game and this one. Part of him wondered if he was playing along because he knew Garrett was watching, but a larger part of him appreciated that he was such a good actor.
John had told him about Hoffman’s copycat killing- the pendulum trap built for his sister’s killer- so he wasn’t totally surprised that this came naturally to him. Still, it was nice to know he wasn’t going to slip up and get them all caught.
They were looking at the iron maiden now, and Garrett tensed up without noticing it. He didn’t want to leave it behind when the game was over, but he had to, so the body could be found the exact way she died. And he’d worn gloves while setting it up and building, but seeing people inspecting it made him nervous, and he started fidgeting.
It started with just a bounce of his leg, but the longer they looked, the more nervous he got. By the time they finally moved away, he had bitten hard enough into his hand to draw blood.
“Shit,” he muttered to himself, running his tongue over the wound so the blood didn’t start dripping. They were wrapping up the investigation now, since he hadn’t really left many clues for them- they already had Detective Hoffman and Detective Mathers was already warned about his upcoming game.
He watched them leave the room and shut off the camera once it was empty, listening through the window for the retreat of the cars. When he was sure no one was left, he climbed out the window and back down the building.
Admittedly, he was a little surprised to find Hoffman still there, leaning against the side of the car and waiting for him. It made him smile, and he realized that being grateful for small shit like this wasn’t helping his case to not get attached.
“Better drive fast, detective, I’ve got a furnace to finish.”

Saw Franchise Opinions/Preferences/Thoughts Since I Have Now Seen Spiral Too
feel free to FIGHT ME send me asks debating any of these points. I can and will throw hands over my opinions
spoilers for the whole Saw Franchise under the cut :P
Favorite character?
It's really hard to pick just one. At first it was Hoffman, then it was Strahm, but at the minute it's William Schenk. He's just so cold and calculating, but also sympathetic as a character? He's also pretty fucking badass. (YES I AM THIRSTING FOR ALL OF THEM)
Least favorite character?
Jeff from Saw III. Everything he did just pissed me off and so many people died because he wouldn't hurry the fuck up or think about anything he did.
Which character death would you pick to retcon?
Joyce Dagen. She's probably the only character in the whole franchise who was completely innocent and she didn't deserve to die like that just because her husband was a liar.
Which side character did you want to see more of?
Daniel Matthews. I really sympathized with him in Saw II and I wanted to see more of how he adjusted after he got out of the nerve gas house.
Favorite film?
Saw V. The plot with Hoffman and Strahm is really cool and I absolutely love the Fatal Five traps.
Least favorite film?
Jigsaw. The traps in it felt really boring compared to every other movie and the characters weren't as compelling.
Favorite trap from your least favorite film?
I'd probably say the laser thing that Logan and Halloran are in. It's pretty simplistic and suuuper rigged but it's cool because it falls back to the whole "anticipating the human mind" thing that Jigsaw has.
Least favorite trap from your favorite film?
The fucking shotgun chair that Hoffman gets put in. It's so boring and can you even really consider it to be a test?
Which character relationship is your favorite?
There isn't much of it but Strahm and Perez. They seem to have a really meaningful friendship and I wish the movies showed more of it.
Which characters do you wish had interacted more?
I kinda wanted more Amanda and Hoffman sibling rivalry.
Best flashback sequence?
The one where Adam is using his camera flash to light up the apartment. It's just so clever and builds so much tension.
Jigsaw or Spiral?
Spiral, all the way. Jigsaw felt kinda boring but Spiral had a more unique plot and traps (plus I'm simping for William Schenk).
Saw I-III or Saw IV-VII?
I think the first 3 were the most original and, although I love Saw V, I wasn't as invested in the last couple of movies, so Saw I-III.
Billy the puppet or Mr. Snuggles?
Billy. He's just so iconic that I couldn't possibly say otherwise.
Best Jigsaw apprentice?
Ok so my favourite is Amanda, but I think the best one in terms of efficiency is Lawrence let's be real.
Which would you be: a victim, a survivor, or an apprentice?
Gonna be honest, probably a victim. I don't have enough of a will to live to survive any of the traps lmao
Which character would you want to see as an apprentice? Why/how?
Don't know if this counts but it would be cool to see Zeke from Spiral as an apprentice, like seeing him and William working together would be a really interesting dynamic. Maybe after the reveal about his dad he feels betrayed by the police system and decides to join Schenk.
Which ending twist surprised you the most?
Honestly a lot of the endings got spoiled for me before I watched them, so with that in mind I'd say either Saw III where you find out it's actually Amanda's trap, or Saw V when you find out they all could've survived.
Have you played any of the games? Read any of the comics?
Not yet but I'd love to read the comics at some point.

I've seen you reblogging lots of horror movie gifs lately, so do the ask meme for your favorite horror movie/the one you're fixating on!
Oh man there are so many horror movies that flooded into my mind xD My favorites are obviously Silent Hill (it’s my username) and Midsommar (it’s my profile pic), but I was trying to think of a movie that had lots of characters or that people might know better.
It’s hard because most horror movies don’t get the sort of widespread fanbase that most shows/movies do, it’s a very close-knit fanbase since it’s such an acquired taste and there aren’t a lot of characters to choose from each movie usually since horror utilizes a lot of filler-character tropes.
I think I’m going to go against expectations and pick Saw because
1) I do like it very much
2) I’m very familiar with all the movies and characters
3) It’s a whole franchise of films so more people to choose from
4) It’s fairly recognizable even outside of the horror movie fanbase
favorite male character: The one, the only, the old man with the world’s biggest god-complex himself...Jigsaw! xD And by extension Billy the Puppet, but he’s not technically a character since he’s not sentient I guess.
favorite female character: Amanda Young! She’s one of my kins. I first saw Saw when I was in middle school and I really related to her because she was one of the only characters I saw in media that struggled with self-harm like I did. Most shows and movies are too scared to show that I think for fear of being accused of glorifying it but I think it’s important for people with a lot of scars and cuts not being erased or pretended like we don’t exist. I understand the desire to not want to promote self-harm, but I don’t think people understand that it can actually hinder you a lot in life (people not wanting to hire you, date you, be your friend etc because of it all of which has happened to me personally) and for the longest time I felt mutilated and ugly and ashamed of this part of my appearance that I couldn’t get rid of, so it was nice to feel like I wasn’t alone for once. It also helped that over time I became even more like her when I developed a drug addiction so even though I’ve been sober and clean for awhile now it gives me more in common with her.
least favorite character: Since there’s so many deplorable side characters I’m gonna stick to main characters and say Detective Hoffman. -n- He straight up fucked up Jigsaw’s entire protocol and everything the games originally stood for and seeing him get away with it for multiple movies just pissed me off because that wasn’t what Jigsaw (flawed as he was) stood for.
prettiest character: Dr. Denlon was really beautiful...before the end of Saw 3. >.> Wish she could have been in all of the films.
funniest character: Ok so the first movie was really intense but it could be really hard not to laugh a lot because Adam Stanheight kept throwing out these sarcastic and out-of-the-blue insults and quips every five seconds and we stan a man who mocks everything even while threatened with imminent death xD
favorite season: Saw 2 was my favorite of the movies and the one I’ve seen the most. It shows Jigsaw in his full glory since he wasn’t shown interacting with people in Saw 1, was ill in Saw 3, and wasn’t around in the rest. I also really liked Saw 5.
favorite episode: Hm, since it’s not a show maybe we can go with ‘favorite scene’? And it’s always and unequivocally the ending of Saw 1. My mind will never be unfucked from how shook I was from that twist. Saw as a franchise is notorious for it’s very detailed and complicated plot twists, but none of the others could top the sheer omg-what-the-fuckery of that one imo.
favorite romantic ship: I like the complicated and troubled relationship between Jigsaw and his ex-wife Jill Tuck. It’s tragic but also kind of sweet in a way.
favorite family ship: Jigsaw as a father figure for Amanda...even if it didn’t end well because of her insurmountable self-destructive flaws.
favorite friend ship: Doctor Gordon and Adam from Saw 1 xD Yeah they were definitely more on the enemies side of frenemies than the friends side, but it was so funny watching them simultaneously panicking, snarking at eachother, yet having to work together to save themselves.
worst ship: Hm, I don’t really see a lot of ships for these films but I would probably say romantic/sexual Jigsaw x Amanda because I’m sure someone out there ships it or shipped it at one point and I only see it as paternal/mentor figure relationship.
