#i'd recommend blue exorcist more for that

Blue exorcist's Satan is an interesting character in that his situation and circumstances ARE sympathetic, being fundamentally unable to live as a human, and having been raised in a situation where his ability to grow and connect with others is so hampered, and Satan desperately wants to live...
(It's not surprising that Rin tries to connect with him in the latest chapter.)
But, also,
Satan is such an egocentric asshat who would rather destroy the world in a self-pitying tantrum.

What Brad Dourif films I should watch as a beginner fan? Thank you for all the wonderful brad-posts!
Hi, and glad you enjoy the brad-posting! ❤️ Some of these might be obvious, but I won't make any assumptions about what you are/aren't familiar with....
I think these ones are some good places to start. They are varying degrees of overall quality, but all ones where Brad has a pretty major part:
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Exorcist III
Wise Blood
Spontaneous Combustion
Final Judgement
Death Machine
Branching out a bit, these are all still major or good sized roles for Brad and worth a watch:
Istanbul*
Death and Cremation
Horseplayer
Medium Rare
Humboldt County
Ragtime
Sonny Boy
The Wild Blue Yonder
Chaindance
(* While Istanbul has a really good Brad performance, it does deal with heavy subject matter. I won't spoil it, but do ask/look it up if you need to.)
Also, these are some movies I wouldn't necessarily recommend as a whole, but have good Brad characters I have to mention:
Fatal Beauty
Alien Resurrection
Graveyard Shift
Halloween I and II
And, maybe the most obvious, but I'd be remiss not to mention Child's Play and The Lord of the Rings. Although if not already your entry point for Brad, LotR is a big undertaking for his amount of screen time.
Sorry that's a lot lol. As someone who is a completionist and is trying to consume everything, it's hard to narrow down! There is more I could recommend for various reasons, but I think this is plenty for starting out lol.
(Also you didn't ask for TV, but he's had some really good one-off tv episodes that are worth checking out, some of the best probably being The X-Files, Star Trek: Voyager, and Babylon 5. And then there's the whole series of Deadwood where he has a great part!)

People I'd like to know better!
I was tagged by @ficklecat (one of my very favorite fic writers, go read their stuff!! It's so good!!) Thank you for tagging me! I know you tagged me on my main but I wanted to do it here instead since I'm more active on this blog rn. I'm terrible at doing these lol
Last song: Pink Diamond - Charli xcx
Favourite colour: purple 💜💜
Currently watching: nothing right now actually. I think the last show I finished was Blue Eye Samurai. I really liked that and would love to talk about mizu being trans with anyone else who has seen it lol
Last movie/tv show: I watched the Pope's Exorcist yesterday on a recommendation from a friend. It's great, you should see it. Russel Crowe is doing an Italian?? accent and riding around on a little moped. Also, they used the Templar symbol from Dragon Age to represent the actual Templars?? It's good
Spicy/savoury/sweet: Spicy!! I'm not the type to get extra spicy food, but I put some kind of spice in basically everything I eat. I also love bitter foods. Maybe I just have a kind of weak sense of taste because I want all my food to have strong flavors.
Relationship status: married 💞 we just celebrated our 8th anniversary on Halloween!!
Current obsession: hmmm I'm actually not sure. I've been thinking of taking some classes at a local university just to learn about some things I didn't study in college. I've been really interested in geology for a while but was a humanities major so I didn't take a lot of science classes. I found some lectures from a geology class at a university in Oregon that I watched lol. I want more of that.
Last thing you googled: League of Pigs! There's a guy in the UK who makes videos of pigs racing on tracks in the woods and they are so cute!! They have jerseys for each of the pigs and I'm thinking of getting one. Bear Trotsky is my girl! She doesn't run or jump very well but she's super cute!!!
Tagging: @lesbianmizukage @obihoe @soaringpigeonshovel @kakashihasibs @kakashihoetake

*read horrorshow the nth time*
do you have any fav horror movies to recommend?
I've probably recommended all of these before but here we go again with the bad takes! Wahoo! OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD
The Exorcist - my most favorite horror movie ever. I don't think a lot of people find the actual spooky ghosty stuff scary (unsettling for sure) but the characters are next level and the production and acting are unmatched. Ellen Burstyn's performance as a mother losing her mind trying, and failing, to save her daughter is haunting. It also lead to me doing my best Greek grandmother impression whenever I say Dimi, so there is that.
Jacob's Ladder - an inspiration for the first Silent Hill, this movie portrays unreality as well as Perfect Blue. It's super disorienting and impactful, I watched it coming out of a project focusing on the Vietnam War and... yeah, it's pretty miserable. Although there is a lot of horrific imagery, t's a genuinely heart-breaking film in some places. The core of horror is trauma, right?
Hereditary - the ending is pretty scary, but the thing that stands out in this movie is how miserable it is. Like with the previous two I wouldn't recommend it on the fear factor, it's more of a character deconstruction through the lens of a horrifying situation. Alex Wolff's character is masterfully written and executed. Obviously I've never dealt with such severe trauma, but his response and mental decline is very relatable.
Midsommar - It's the cult movie. People say it's boring, I disagree, but it's not really scary either. More... uncomfortable. I love that the protagonist is already in such a vulnerable and destructive state. Like she's just not doing well. It's been a huge inspiration in my own writing, and Florence Pugh is lovely. Like with Anya Taylor-Joy, it was interesting to see her get so popular after being a contentiously reviewed horror movie.
Blair Witch Project - who hasn't seen this? It remains at the very top of the found footage genre for a reason, the entire thing is amazing. People say it's lost its luster with the oversaturation, but I disagree, the acting and style of the OG sets it apart.
The Witch - the first thing I ever saw Anya Taylor-Joy in before she was everywhere. Solid movie, it uses all period accurate dialogue. It's not my favorite from a horror standpoint, but the scenario alone is sickening enough to be a selling point. The dad character's actor has a nice voice, don't @ me.
Perfect Blue - there is nothing I could say about Perfect Blue that hasn't been said before, but it is a masterpiece. Watch it. If you like animation, if you like psychological studies, if you like feeling real icky, watch it. Just do it.
Se7en - more of a thriller I suppose, but it definitely works as a horror. It's up there with my faves and is another movie that's been an inspiration in my writing.
It Follows - I mention this because I was listening to the soundtrack, but its a beautifully shot film with a very strong aesthetic vision. It's the "demon STD" movie, which is dumb and imo pushes some really harmful narratives about STD's and I'd say that the far more impactful reading is sexual trauma.
Suspiria (2018) - I'm not one for body horror but there's a scene in this that just... woah. I've never seen the original but I know the new one is very different, and it's amazing. I might be alone in this but it's a shame Dakota Johnson is in such trash movies because I think she's so cute.
The Shining - another classic that must go on this list because it is, unironically, just that good. Shelley Duvall deserved better, that's a fact. That her performance was so fantastic is astounding to me. It's funny that people say that her reaction is unrealistic when that was her genuine reaction to being put in a traumatic situation. Amazing film, she is a star.
I'm definitely missing some movies but such is the way my brain doesn't work. Thank you for your time <3

I’m trying to get into manga as well, I read Blue Exorcist some years ago and that’s all.. I’m pretty into books lately. Could you recommend some of your favourites, if you don’t mind? Thanks a lot
Recommend favourite books? Oh man, this is a broad question lol.
Favs from most current reads? I finished Song of Achilles last week, and now I'm almost done with Circe, both by Madeline Miller and both very good (I can put Heroes, Mythos and Troy by Stephen Fry on top of that as an additional thematic recommendation, enjoyed these a ton). I'm also in a process of rereading Discworld novels after like two decades, currently going through the Witches books, so I can recommend those a well.
From all time favourites? One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a book i read sixteen times so i guess I can recommend this one, lol. Flights by Olga Tokarczuk is fantastic if you haven't read this one yet. Dictionary of the Khazars by Milorad Pavić is also one of my favourite books and one I come back to often (especially that its lexicon like form allows to just hop in for an entry or two). Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov is another one I'd recommend, lots of good stuff there and there's a devil too. And to close the list: Our Ancestors trilogy by Italo Calvino ( would recommend basically every book by him tbh, one of my most fav authors in general) which consist of The Cloven Viscount, The Baron in the Trees, and The Nonexistent Knight.
I am mostly reading non-fiction books tho, but that becomes an even broader questions since the ones I liked most thematically spread from Ancient Persian Empire, through the history of surgery and medicine, to more recent nuclear disasters, so imma stop here lol.

🌞💖❌ for the writing asks!
Do you have a preferred time of day to write? To come up with ideas, it's any time between midnight and four in the morning. To write on paper it's definitely the afternoon. To write on my computer it's late evenings. I proofread at any hour of the day though. overall, i am a chaotic, unsleeping creature.
What made you start writing? interesting question. well, i was a creative and not so social child so of course i was creating fun stories all the time. then i turned to art instead and forgot about writing, my first love, for a short while. i started actually writing my first story when I was around 11? 12? due to boredom, really. i won't say a word about my middle school experience, but yeah. boredom. i actually started writing online around that time, but didn't enjoy it much. so we get to the more interesting part of my answer: what made me start writing english fanfiction on AO3? i've probably mentioned that i learned a lot of english through reading blue exorcist fanfiction. specifically, my absolute favourite, which haunts me to this day (and i've started re-reading it like... yesterday), kizmet's Tear Me Down series (which... i wouldn't call it a rec because it has Issues, so i'd need at least four paragraphs of warnings and criticisms before recommending it.). this solidified a few things for me. 1) AO3 is just amazing good lord. 2) whump is a great genre. 3) fanfiction can be cathartic to read when it's not inherently cringe because french. it then takes me a few years to actually feel like writing fanfiction, i scrap a multi-chapter project and only keep part of a baptism scene, and boom, we get El alma que anda en amor... so, boredom and blue exorcist.
What's a trope you will never write? oh i have plenty. i may read it if it's well-written, not too smutty, and not just a sexy remix of bioessentialism, but i won't be caught DEAD writing A/B/O. i don't write drunk confessions, only one bed, cuddling for warmth, anything nsfw (unless i am paid. anything for the bag girl.), soulmates (but i read it. my favourite is sodoroses' Chipped Tea Sets) and truly just a fuckton of shit. but most of these could change, so, above all, (and if i ever go back on my word may god strike me where i fucking stand) i won't write miscommunication. i don't fuck with that.

Part 2 of my Anime/Manga Ranking!!
The Blorbos
This second tier are for my favourites that don't quite cross the line to be my absolute favourites! (there is a pretty big gap between those) also I've covered a lot of the Manga in this one with their anime counterparts in the first one so I'll just skip those!
Black Lagoon (Anime + Manga)
Now, it's been many years since I have watched/read Black Lagoon, but it's always stuck with me because of how overthetop it is, we have Nun's with Gun's, The Soviet Military, Killer Children and a Maid Assassin (also iirc Nazi's at some point??) Besides that it's quite a dark show with a lot of action, I don't think it's going to be for everyone though still I'd recommend it!
Boy Meets Maria (Anime + Manga)
Again, another LGBTQ+ Manga that features great representation for Trans/Nonbinary people! It does a really good job showing what it's like experiencing gender dysphoria as a teenager, It's an amazing piece of representation that I'd highly recommend people check out!
Avatar The Last Airbender (Anime)
Just go watch this, seriously. It's got such an amazing story with an amazing cast of characters. Absolutely love the "corruption" or degradation we see with Azula, the "redemption" arc we see with Zuko and also Katara becoming an absolute powerhouse with Waterbending, seeing these characters go through these journeys is so rewarding, highly recommend watching!
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Anime + Manga)
Now I wouldn't say that I'm the biggest JoJo fan out there, the main reason it's actually on this list is because of the 2 parts that I absolutely love! That being Stardust Crusaders and Stone Ocean. Both featuring my favourite settings, stands and characters so far out of the series! (Jolyne is my fav JoJo btw, her theme is so fucking good!!!)
Burn The Witch (Anime + Manga)
So far we've only got the one volume of Burn The Witch, but already it's great! Set in the same universe as Bleach but taking place in a completely different location, with different characters and powers. It really fleshes the world out more while also making it feel connected in some ways, also it adds dragons to the universe?? automatic fav. can't wait to see more come out from this!!!!!
Blue Exorcist (Anime + Manga)
Again, another series that needs the Brotherhood treatment!!! the manga is still ongoing!!! we need to restart the series!!!!! (ik its getting a new season soon but we need to reboot her!!) Absolutely love Blue Exorcist, one of the first anime's I ever watched besides Bleach! very nostalgic for me and Rin is my son, I am still Yukio's number one hater, if he has no haters, then I'm dead.
Demon Slayer (Anime + Manga)
Got into Demon Slayer around the time the second season started premiering! I saw a bunch of people reacting to it on YouTube/TikTok and thought I'd be into it, turns out I was! I really loved the style and animations ofc, but again, the characters are what stood out to me the most (with Shinobu being my fav, and her fight with Doma being my favourite fight) also just the humanisation of the demons, showing that they themselves are also victims.

Actually could you recommend me some animes/manga please Kuro 🥺 the only ones I've watched/read so far have been Blue Exorcist, fma:b, bnha, and part of attack on titan. I like the more intense fantasy/sci-fi genre if you couldn't tell but I'd be happy to try anything really I just don't know where to start! 🦘
Okay so!
Ouran High School Host Club - very cute, romance, silly, just overall very good
Fruits Basket - Emotional, romance, you will cry a shit ton, but it is worth it
Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku - another romance, also very silly and super cute, one of my favs
One Punch Man - Very action, much fight, big burly men with muscles and also very fucking funny
Akira - This is a movie but it is a classic and very brilliant for it’s time, worth the watch for sure
Gantz - This is very r-rated, there is sexual content and tons of gore, but it is very good and pretty mind fuck
Elfen Lied - Another very gore soaked anime but it is very good and interesting
Paranoia Agent - This anime is so fucking trippy but absolutely brilliant, very much worth the watch
Parasyte - Not to be confused with the Korean movie by a similar name, this anime is another pretty dark and gory one, but again, very good
Erased - very emotional, there are kind of trigger inducing scenes, murder and what not, but I loved it
I currently cannot think of much more but I know I have shit tons, I’ll maybe  try and compile a list sometime soon of what I’ve watched!!

Finished Blue Exorcist tonight!
I'm love the power of friendship trope, however can we please have more of the power of brotherhood (family, sisters what have you)
Tumblr media
So cheesy but I loved it especially because they had trouble seeing eye to eye (and continue to do so as brothers do) but still come together when it counts.
Also this cat I want one so bad I love Kuro more than anything else in this show.
Tumblr media
And this man right here, why have I never seen him up there with animes top dads?!? Huh!?! This man is the best!
Tumblr media
Over all I give it a 7/10.
Rin don't capture my attention as a protag but hes better than others. He came off....weird. Like certain things that upset him once before didnt bother him later on, and it felt like his whole righteous shonen protag "protect my friends" vibe didnt fit well into all of his character. He bounced back and forth a lot.
The world building was interesting but you can see when they cut corners in the story to fit the 25 episodes. Its clearly meant to push the viewer to read the manga.
The supporting cast was OK, I feel like Shimi was the only one really fleshed out (even then it felt a little weak), despite others playing into Rins overall arc as well. Yukio especially didnt get the attention he deserved especially playing such a crucial role in the overall plot.
The ending felt a little weird, clearly there is still more to the story, but idk if I'll actually read the manga.
I'd recommend to those who enjoy shonen and want that whole demons kinda storyline, or enjoy cool world building.
(Honestly its Shiro and Kuro that made me rate this a 7 😅. Dad and cat of the year!)
Edit: was told they never did a second season but alas they do have one and a movie?! So I'll check those out too. Might change my review.

Hi. Found this blog just now and had fun flipping through several bits of analysis. I love most FMA meta (what lead me here) and that was an informative piece about Ichigo that hits the nail on the head, I think. It's been so long since I thought of Bleach... On the off chance you take recommendations I would like to suggest, for your consideration, the Blue Exorcist manga. It is so much better than the anime and I'd love to see more meta of it someday. And it's currently in an info dump arc.
I did try the manga several years back and dropped it shortly after the introduction of the plant girl. I don't know why, but it never really caught my interest.
If you're a One Piece fan, I do run the blog @opbackgrounds, which does contain some meta but is mostly just for fun. That and my fanfic projects are taking a lot of my free time these days which limits my chance to get into new series, but I have started the JoJo anime and am thinking of picking up the Black Clover manga.
Thanks for the rec and for reading! I really do appreciate it.
