I haven't seen anyone discuss the fact that Teresa and Isley are parallels and it drives me mad (tbf maybe someone has but I'm unable to find it, in which case I apologize).

But like, they're both the most powerful of their generation (and sex) with Isley having been the last of the males to awaken (doing that of his own free will) and Teresa having unparalleled yoma detection and power. They're both alluded to being the almost perfect creations because of their overwhelming power and control over that power.

Then there's the circumstances behind their deaths which are so similar. They both die because they became "too human". They found a family and became content with the life they were living leading them to lose their edge and warrior instinct. The human act of having a family is what killed them.

Given that claymores come from different generations and the definition of a generation is vague, it's hard to tell how old warriors are. Even awakened beings who are former warriors.

Clare looked to be about 8-10 when she met Teresa. Teresa was already an adult. She didn't appear to be still be still maturing physically, the way we see Priscilla and Clare throughout the series.

Let's assume Clare is 15 at the beginning of the series. By the end, she’s 22.

Let's assume each generation is 10 years, for easier math:

Teresa would've been in her 20s, let's extrapolate from that that Ilena was in her 30s by the end of the series.

Rafaela was an adult when Teresa was still a trainee. Between Luciela and Teresa as number 1s, there were at least two other number 1s: Hysteria and Rosemary. Rosemary was rising in rank at the same time as Teresa. Rafaela then wouldve been in her 30s when she met Teresa as a trainee.

Riful is much older. There have been many number 1s that we never learned about besides names and perhaps more who simply disappeared in history. Number 1s awakening is rare, given that by the start of the series, there are three on the continent and Priscilla who is beyond the ability of an abyssal one.

Riful, as a first generation warrior, is easily over 60 years old. Isley over 70.

Half tempted to go back and rewatch things I watched back when I thought I was straight and cis to see if I learn anything about myself

Claymore et le Féminisme

Je sais que beaucoup disent que Claymore est féministe mais je suis assez partagée. Car si c'est du féminisme, ce n'est pas le plus récent qui prend désormais en compte (enfin, ça fait plus d'une à deux décennie(s) mais... bref.) les pressions et stéréotypes subit par les hommes.

Oui, l'émancipation féminine telle que décrite dans le manga avec les femmes se rebellant contre le joug des hommes ne les voyant que comme des outils séparés d'eux est féministe, c'est quelque chose que j'ai aussi repéré dans Claymore et que j'ai beaucoup apprécié.

Presque autant que de pouvoir enfin apprécier un manga où les femmes ont le rôle principal et où, quand elles se font déshabiller, leur corps est montrer sans fard et sans accent particulier. La pudibonderie du bout de tissus qui reste miraculeusement sur les parties sexualisées alors que tout le reste à été détruit est absente. Pareil pour le stéréotype inverse et ridicule dans lequel les héroïnes perdent souvent en premier les vêtements dissimulant leurs attributs et s'arrêtent au beau milieu d'un combat à mort pour bien mettre l'accent dessus sous couvert de se dissimuler. C'était vraiment très appréciable de la part de l'auteur.

Par contre, on ne peut nier qu'il a toujours inclus un certain nombre de stéréotypes sur les hommes.

Le plus fort (même si de peu) des Abyssal est un homme ce qui (désolée Isley, tu restes un de mes préférés) n'a pas beaucoup de sens si on prend en compte les dires de Daë sur le fait que leurs expérimentations ont permit de créer des guerrières plus puissantes dans les générations qui ont suivit quand ils ont commencer à provoquer la haine des Yôma chez elles plutôt que de se contenter de prendre des orphelines au hasard. Sans parler du fait que Riful nous apprend que plus le guerrier est puissant et plus son éveil le sera, raison pour laquelle elle recherche l'éveil des premiers numéro dans la partie 1 et laisse Claire, Jean et Galatéa partir tout en les encourageant à continuer de développer leur force. Ce qui était d'une complaisance rivalisant avec de la stupidité pure et simple.

Ce qui signifie qu'il est probable que, même en étant haut-placés comme dans les cinq premiers numéros, les guerriers de la génération masculine, inconscients des dangers de l'éveil (car étant les premiers sujets de test), n'ont probablement pas eu le temps d'atteindre leur plein potentiel avant l'éveil.

De même, cette idée de comparer l'homme à quelque chose qui, par opposition naturalisé (urg !) envers la femme ne pourrait que céder plus facilement au désir sexuel est un nid à sexisme contre eux et pour lequel je préfère suivre l'hypothèse des niveaux de lecture, c'est-à-dire que Miria expliquait son point de vu aux fantômes plutôt que l'auteur établissant un fait irréfutable de son manga.

Je veux dire, Chronos en fait lui aussi mention mais, au moment où il en parle, le lecteur en sait déjà plus que lui sur les origines des Yôma. De plus, le fait qu'il soit l'un des premiers lui donne, certes, plus d'expérience avec son pouvoir mais l'handicape aussi pour faire une comparaison réelle de la situation en terme d'évolution du contrôle basé sur le sexe. Après tout, on parle de celui qui est persuadé que son éveil lui a donner un état d'esprit ''démoniaque''... alors que, pour rappel, les Yôma sont en réalité une arme biologique créée de toute pièce par l'organisation à des fins d'expérimentations militaires. Ainsi, il n'est pas improbable qu'il ne fasse que répéter ce qu'on lui a toujours présenter comme la vérité.

Après, il y a les comportements d'Isley (encore...) face à Luciela sur sa capacité à se disputer avec elle... parce qu'elle est une femme (plutôt que sur une caractéristique personnelle de sa part) et celui de Raki (après qu'Isley l'ait élever, tient donc !) face aux apprentis lors de la chute de l'organisation où celui-ci décide de leur prendre l'épée pour se battre parce qu'elles sont des filles et que c'est plus adaptés aux mains d'un homme. Plutôt qu'un adulte protégeant des enfants.

Il est là, cet inconscient du langage. Ces stéréotypes reproduits, inconsciemment ou non, qui transmettent une image. L'auteur à brillamment éviter de les reproduire sur les femmes et je l'en félicite car c'est l'un des meilleurs points de son oeuvre alors que ça n'aurait pas pu être facile avec la véritable industrie derrière le manga. Mais il a du travail à faire pour étendre cette caractéristique aux hommes.
