no tv show ending has ever devastated me as much as merlin’s. and i haven’t watched “the diamond of the day” in years, but i still remember thinking the first time i finished it, back in 2013, that i maybe, with much reluctance and tears, maybe could’ve accepted that ending—

IF! it weren't for that final scene, with old merlin in the present day.

i could’ve comforted myself with the thought that arthur might rise again in just a few years, and even though gwaine still would've died tragically and pointlessly, at least merlin and gwen would get arthur back. but instead! we end on merlin alone, hundreds of years in the future, still waiting for arthur. which means gwen lost arthur forever, after so much angst and such a short time together. (she wouldn't have lost merlin, though. i don’t care what anyone says; there’s no way merlin wouldn’t have returned to camelot for at least her and gaius. plus, he hadn’t found out about gwaine yet.) and whenever arthur does return, it will be to a world where his wife and all his other loved ones, besides merlin, are long dead and gone. and sure, merlin still had people—gaius and gwen and his mother—to live for after arthur's death, but eventually, inevitably he outlived them all. to wait for arthur entailed losing everyone else.

so i can't quite comfort myself with the thought that merlin and arthur will eventually be reunited. because of what gwen lost. because of the losses arthur will awake to. because of the losses merlin has been carrying with him for hundreds of years.

so, no, i can't accept that ending.

this is like months old at this point but I had a weird dream about these little kitties in a video game that had been abandoned in a console in an old apartment by a couple that played the game that they saw as their parents, so I had to adopt them and they became little kitty kids in real life when they stepped out of the game and came with me…the little kitty girl was very sad and sensitive but her kitty brother had become very wary and jaded to protect them

I check Katherine Addison's twitter every now and then to see if there are any news about the Witness of the Dead 3. No news yet, but I did find out that a new Kyle Booth novella (main character from The Bone Key novel she published as Sarah Monette) has just been published, which is pretty amazing news to start what I have reason to believe will be a pretty shitty day.

#one thing to keep me going through the work day #personal #i haven't re-read it yet (although i almost certainly will) but i remember really enjoying the bone key! #kyle does bear similarities to celehar in terms of being very sad and lonely/gay/giving a wet cat vibe #although from what i remember the overall feel of the bone key was sadder and (due to dealing with the supernatural) more horror-esque #each chapter was it's own stand-alone short story which did also mean that even when kyle managed to connect with someone #since we wouldn't see them again in the next story #there wasn't that sense of found family and kyle felt more isolated from the world as a character than celehar #anyway i'm excited to jump into the new novella!

no bc having pets is so. so. like these lil guys dont understand us they dont know what we're saying they can only try guess from our tone and our actions and they dont have any idea what we do as humans and why we have to leave for hours and hours every day what do they do when we're gone? do they realise that one day we wont come back? that theyll never see us again? like. milo (my cat) was abandoned at a bus stop near my house a year ago. and he cried and cried and cried until we took him in because nobody else could. does he sit at home when im gone and think, what if it happens again? what if im getting left behind again? does he think about his past owners when hes with me? do we buy the same brand of cat food? did they hold him? did he sit in their lap and paw at their chest like he does with me? did they even pet him at all? does he wake up and cry bc hes not in his old home? does he panic when hes left on his own for too long? when we close the door, does he fear that maybe this time nobody will open it for him? that he'll be alone again?
