#it's a consequence for shadowclan

im probably just interpreting this in a way that makes me satisfied BUT i’ll take this explanation of why nightpelt didn’t get his lives over the ‘broken just already has them’ one
Tumblr media
the idea that it’s more because of the living cat’s decision on how they chose their clan leader, followed him, and must accept that decision rather than some arbitrary well broken just has lives so suck it i guess feels better

Uh.... wh?
Honey and Shell are right.
Nightheart was allowed to act out MUCH more strongly and harshly than any other warrior
Squilf herself as deputy was trying her best to help him reconnect to their family, when he was angrily pushing them all away
He interrupted his own name ceremony and was given a new one, no consequence
Was given a huge opportunity to go on a mission to get lifesaving medicine, BECAUSE of Jayfeather, Alderheart, and Squilf, his family. Didn't appreciate this.
Ran away to ShadowClan, and then came back, no consequence again because his family missed him.
Left AGAIN with a StarClan Permission Slip to help Frostpaw, came back, no consequence for vanishing. Even Sunbeam doesn't resent this.
He does get away with shit because he's a descendant of Firestar, he's part of the family that leads ThunderClan. This all would have been treated much more harshly, and he wouldn't have gotten so many opportunities, if these people WEREN'T his family.
And now he's gotten an apprentice before Shell and Honey for it!
This ISN'T "building his own legacy." It IS nepotism.
Even the next handful of cats who get apprentices-- Bayshine, his best friend who he was basically raised with and aids him constantly, just this morning lying to cover Sunbeam, AND Finchlight, sister. Molewhisker is a random senior mentor so they're not ALL completely brand new.
TERRIBLE conclusion to Nightheart's character arc, this execution has earned a fierce, flaming F + See Me After Class

Thoughts about Violetshine’s and Needletail’s connection to each other in AVoS please?
I heard what’s probably quite a unpopular opinion out there that the bond that these two characters have is quite unhealthy, and I’m genuinely curious if you agree with that statement or not and/or if that’s actually true or not.
I'm gonna be TOTALLY honest. AVoS was so boring to me that my memory has basically blanked out on most of what I read. If DOTC wasn't SO rancid, AVoS would be my least favorite arc. BB!AVoS is one of the least solidified arcs because of it-- I plan to do an AVoS reread after I manage to choke through the rest of the back-half of DOTC.
I have a solid middle and everything around Breezepelt, a new POV, is pretty clear in my mind. I have a good grasp on the politics of ShadowClan falling apart. I even know the emotional angle I want to play with Needletail and Sleekwhisker. But there's so many little things that I'm just not sure how to work with, so hopefully a reread will help it all click.
I do always try to preserve the "emotional core" of things, even when arcs get shuffled and overhauled like this one.
BUT ANYWAY from what I remember, yeah, Needletail and Violetkit have a pretty unhealthy relationship. Which was actually one of the few things I like. I like that Needletail is actually pretty nasty, and that her most consistent trait is that she refuses to be told what to do.
To me, Needle pretty snappish with Violetkit in the way that some teenagers are nasty with little kids, and I just think that's very interesting. I hate the way that the arc ultimately says that the problem in ShadowClan was... idk Kids These Days and their iPhones, but I LIKE the idea that these (overall pretty unremarkable) teenagers, with some good points about how ridiculous their society is, got exploited by a malicious actor.
And what I like about that with Needle and Violet's friendship being pretty toxic is that, well, sometimes teenagers are like that. They resent having to watch younger kids, or having responsibilities thrust on them, because they're looking for their own freedom. Needlepaw is a child, herself, but Violetkit doesn't have a decent mother figure so she latches to her like a baby duck.
Needle shouldn't have to be this kid's parent and she resents that, in spite of (or maybe exactly because) this is a consequence of her own choices. And Violet has no other choice, and no way of understanding "what she did wrong."
I like sad little relationships like that. Unfixable ones. Of course canon kinda threw it out the window with Needletail dying to save her and Violetshine never having a complicated view of her in hindsight as a result, but, such is Warrior Cat.
i take a hammer and i feex the canon

I know some people are upset that Thunderclan, Shadowclan and Windclan haven’t just barged in and put Splashtail’s head on a spike already but I’m glad they haven’t! I’m glad that they’re not repeating Tigerheartstar ‘saving Riverclan from themselves’! I’m glad Splashtail used that to discredit Puddleshine as a witness to his fake leader ceremony! I’m glad he’s using the fact that Frostpaw was taken in by Shadowclan to farther discredit her! I’m glad that he’s using Shadowclan’s invasion of their home to keep Riverclan loyal to him! I’m glad that Tigerheartstar’s shitty actions are having actual fucking consequences and I hope they keep coming!
I completely agree!
I’ve seen so many people say that it’s hypocritical that Squirrelstar in particular won’t do anything now she is leader despite pushing for action before, but the circumstances are entirely different now. Her barging into RiverClan would make her just like Tigerstar, she would become the thing she wanted to take action to stop. She is completely right that the change needs to come from within RiverClan first before she steps in to help.

Kin list because I keep forgetting and I wanna keep it written so I remember
giving the biggest “please be my friend ur so cool please please please please” to whoever knows all of these characters
But I’ll say them here anyway, in order from the top left going right.
Mikey - rottmnt
SCP-035 - SCP Foundation
Tawnypelt - Warriors
Ennard - FNAF Sister Location
Dr. Iceberg - SCP Foundation
Moxxie - Helluva Boss
Space Kid - Camp Camp
Phone Guy - FNAF 1 (I think?? I never played the games..)
Phillip Graves - Call of Duty Modern Warfare (reboot)
uhhh idk if I label or spelt that right. I hope I did. That’d be kinda embarrassing if I didn’t lol..
———— why I kin them ig.
btw some stuff is headcanons like so and so being lgbtq and Graves having daddy issues
Mikey ROTTMNT- hell, there’s a lot of reasons.. it’s like… really personal with me lol
4th child, plus youngest. 3 older brothers and often gets left out, or brushed off from being involved. + aro/ace spec.
+ orange theme buddy agh I love u ur so pretty 💛💛
+ ADHD
SCP-035 - hmm.
Wants to watch the world burn, and is here for a good time and is really opportunistic with people, and often forms bonds with people for what they can give him… I’m a bad person I know. I’m trying to change.
+ Latin hehe
+ a lot of people really like him when they first meet, and learn the longer they spend with him, the worse he gets.
Tawnypelt - I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about her bc I didn’t read the 2nd arc, but from what I get, she seems to have struggled with gaining her own identity and being seen as someone other than a clone in her family. I struggle with people only knowing me for my brothers so I relate to her for this.
Also idk her leaving Thunderclan, despite her family, friends, and everything she knows and it being genuinely a good place she is comfortable and happy with— to Shadowclan so she can start a new life just touches me personally.
I don’t want to stay here. It’s not bad here, and everyone I love is here, but I don’t feel like I belong here, and I relate to her for it.
Ennard - yeah.. no, I got nothing. Idk why but he’s just like me fr.
Dr. Iceberg - HE’S AN ASSHOLE!!! I’m an asshole!!! Easily entertained, and doesn’t think of others that much, or the consequences of his actions. + mentally ill
+ bad taste in men
+ probably American with a small fraction of his ethnicity from Europe.
Moxxie - Daddy Issues. shit on by everyone. Underestimated kinda I guess???… and mixed morals. Often really polite— or at least is perceived to be, and is a thinker. Can go absolutely feral if necessary.
+ Italian I guess lmfao
+ short- ish..
+ adults and some older kids shall be referred to as ‘sir’ and ‘ma’am’
Space Kid - he likes space. What can I say?
He’s so silly. A lot of the actions and stuff he does feels like stuff I would have done/do.
+ brown hair
Phone Guy - tries to help and probably fails. Hey, he’s trying.
Phillip Graves - Daddy issues. I also headcanon his dad was in the military and he moved around a lot and lived throughout the US, so he’s fairly decent at adapting to different places, and tolerate as hell. “It is what it is” mentality about most everything out of his control.
Finds that one person and looks up to them, and gets really clingy and obsessed with them. Doesn’t show it of course, but in his head he wants to impress them and please them in every way possible. *cough, Shepherd, cough cough*
(I met a lotta people I hyperfixated on giving away everything to make them happy. We’re just casual friends now. Except for that one. She was mean as hell to me. We still meet occasionally tho.)
Outside of headcanons, his personality and the way he acts is just very familiar and relatable to me.
+ American (wtf is a kilometer🦅🫡🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅💥🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸)
+ makes shitty jokes no one laughs at

Are people forgetting Ivypool literally helped shoot down the rescue patrol for SkyClan purely because her sister and Tigerheart both volunteered, knowing full well how important it was to her apprentice. Even after Dovewing directly confronted her in the bonus scene, no less? I don't hate Ivypool for being a traumatized apprentice, I hate her because she went THAT far in trying to control her sister with zero consequences for her actions. Twigbranch forgives her for it right away even though it led to her being hit by a car trying to save them on her own. And sure you can argue that Bramblestar might've cancelled the search even without Ivy's input because other cats were against it too, or that Twigpaw would've been fine if she didn't leave. But the facts are that Ivypool did help get it shut down, even if it meant quite frankly breaking her apprentice's heart just to get her way. And she would go on to refuse to so much as speak to her sister when Tigerheart asked her to during his SE and even hit him for not following her sister right away, when ShadowClan was in shambles (and he did try following her but got too injured to continue and ended up briefly giving up).
...Which is more than Ivypool did, when she was given a warning that something was wrong and pointedly refused to speak to her sister anymore until they broke up.
I'm not mad at her for picking fights with Dovewing as apprentices or being unreasonable then, because she was a kid! But when it gets to the point of being fine with SkyClan having no help coming for them if it means her adult sister can't make her own choices? Ignoring Dovewing to the point of her not even knowing why Ivypool was so cold to her asides from it likely being because of her relationship with Tigerheart, even when he expressly warns Ivypool she needs to talk with her? That's where I draw the line. It's fine to like flawed characters, or characters who make mistakes because of their trauma- but do we HAVE to act like everything she does is free of criticism or sympathetic because of her past in response to people being understandably exasperated seeing Ivypool act this way towards Dovewing? Yes, trauma can absolutely make people act irrational or mean, but that doesn't mean people are crossing the line to think she was an awful sister to Dovewing for her actions as an adult.

re: your dotc rewrite, the details are much better than the original. if you take recommendations, maybe emphasize before gray wings death that he avoids or rejects assitamce from shadowclan? that or when he was kicked out, nobody knew he had asthma? its more a “depends on how you read it” thing, but him being kicked out to die of his asthma just feels a little too cruel for the much kinder characters of your dotc rewrite, even when he is a horrible asshole, yknow? especially with ableism being a huge part of the original arc (clear sky kicking out disabled cats to die all the time).
love your rewrites so far, especially interested that instead of “fixing” some of the chaarcters you just role with the way they were accidentally written horrible and give them consequences. keep up the good work! ☺️
This is a longer post but has a lot of detail.
Yes! I should probably clear that up! His asthma, when he was kicked from Windclan, was not bad. Like at all. Only like.... 2 cats actually knew, Pebble Heart and Hawk Swoop, who was nosy, and is now dead. He himself downplayed it and insisted he was fine, just a tickle, bit of prey scratched my throat, guess I can't run so fast anymore, I'm getting old/out of shape/my legs are just sore. His demise was his own making. If he'd just acknowledged he had any problem at all, he would still be alive. (Well, not nowadays, you know what I mean)
Excuses. Just like canon. At least you can say he never let it get him down. But medical problems don't go away just because you ignore them.
He gets worse after he is kicked out. And he is kicked out for saying something fucking HORRIFIC to Wind Runner about her dead baby. They put up with his Clear Sky bootlicking, but he tried to drive out Bumble before, and now this? No. Go find another group. Sorry, but you clearly won't change after driving Turtle Tail, Jagged Peak, Bumble, Tall Shadow, and Thunder Storm away.
After this, the story isn't from his point of view. Thunder Storm sees him again coming up to their camp, that tickle in his throat getting worse and tighter. Thunder Storm, bless his heart, wants to help, but he can't forget how Gray Wing treated Bumble. He offers a deal. Apologize, and you can stay.
"What?! No! She should be sorry to ME for stealing Turtle Tail! We aren't kittypets, and that's that!"
Thunder Storm is about to offer some help (remember Cloud Spots is not here yet) but Gray Wing snaps at him. His uncle won't change...
Clear Sky is a bust. Sky Petal still doesn't like him, and although this is after The First Battle, when Gray Wing coughs, Clear Sky (IN CHARACTER) says no. We have sick cats here, and my Sky Petal is pregnant. No. But... Clear Sky says he is sorry, and that's enough for Gray Wing to go "yeah, I get it. That's okay. My brother is so caring about his new mate" (nevermind that he said 'my' Sky Petal)
He stays with River Ripple's camp, getting jumpscared by a little gray molly, but Frosty Paws is kind, offering him some herbs before she slinks back into the shadows, making Gray Wing wonder if she is a spirit cat. He tells Dappled Pelt about it and she gets very excited.
Frosty Paws gave him catmint.
He is kept in River Ripple's camp for a while (River Ripple POV!) until River Ripple is forced to intervene with the One Eye problem. Clear Sky and One Eye are leading attacks on others.
River Ripple tries to be understanding when Gray Wing insists that Clear Sky is good deep down, just afraid... But he looks at the quickly whitening tom, and says
"Fear doesn't justify murder. Fear doesn't make a cat do this."
When Gray Wing lashes out, he tears River Ripple's ear, Night and Storm Bird tell him to leave. All he does is complain about the taste of their beloved, sacred fish, and how unfair it is that Turtle Tail left him for that fat housecat. Funny though, the ripped spot has to be severed, and it looks like it changed the course of his ear completely, like a river that changed how it flows. Well, no use dwelling on it, let's go chill on Sunningrocks, after all, only we can swim to it. :)
He isn't seen for a while because he doesn't get pretty much any more POV time. But Path Of Stars happens.
He gets weak, collapsing on a big root in the marsh, and found by Tall Shadow, who drags him back to camp. Hell has broken lose, with Star Flower trying to pick off the Proto-Clan Cats one by one. She tells him to wait in camp, Thunder called a meeting between the 5 leaders and she needs to make sure River Ripple attends.
There, he sees Pebble Heart examining Bumble, looking a little bigger, next to Turtle Tail, who looks so excited she is shifting from paw to paw. Bumble is expecting another small litter for them. Pebble Heart comes over to him, and offers him treatment, but he stomps over to Turtle Tail and tries to pick a fight with her. How dare she leave to Moor, and leave him when he helped raise her kits and-!
She slaps him. Claws sheathed. She never got this catharsis with her first abusive mate, but she'll do it with her second one. She tells him that she doesn't love him anymore, that Bumble has helped her when her night terrors get bad, Bumble was there when Owl Eyes got a bad cold and she worried herself sick. Bumble was the one who helped her sneak out, and prevented twolegs from stealing her kits. Bumble never tried to punish her for being her own cat.
He stays quiet, before he stalks out of camp, Pebble Heart tries to reach out to him, but Gray Wing just hisses at him to get away, go with your real parents then... But all Pebble Heart wanted was to treat a cat in need. He had found many herbs he wanted to try.
His asthma attack hits when he reaches the Five Oak Trees that lead to each territory.
He lays the curse down on the other Clans, not finding it in himself to fully curse Shadowclan, not looking their way when his gaze sweeps the different territories. He dies at Clear Sky's Oak. The fifth tree. His outstretched claws reaching to Riverclan, the last cats who rejected him.
He has a place in the Dark Forest, but his hate and anger bind him to the earth. He is known by the Clans as Gray Wing the Cruel, Enabler of Tyrants, Layer of Curses.
And He is Waiting for His Starless Clans.

Warrior cats has its writting faults, but it did give us a bunch of young individuals who made an earnest mistake, thinking they were doing what was best or just being too shy to speak/expecting bad consequences/thinking it was not worth speaking up and then being the indirect cause of something awful and being seen as responsible for this.
I’m not talking about, say, Dove “I’m going to go to Wind camp in the middle of the night to talk to sedgewhisker” paw, or Fire “I’m going to hunt for riverclan because they’re flooded” heart. They knew what they were doing would lend thme in trouble and chose to do it.
I’m talking about Tall “well if nobody else makes any remark on the shadowclan smell then it’s probably because it’s normal/a border patrol whose scent was brought by the wind” paw, who thinks (and is not the only one) he caused Brackenwing’s death by not speaking up.
I’m talking about Crooked “my mother can look after herself the priority is chasing the dog out” jaw, who thinks (and is not the only one) he caused Rainflower’s death by leaving instead of staying.
I’m talking about Blue “you need to stretch your legs Snowfur” fur, who thinks and is accused by others (Thistleclaw) of having killed her sister by forcing her to go for a stroll and not stopping her fast enough near the thunderpath.
I’m talking about Fire “I need to get those herbs to Yellowfang first but then I’m going to tell the message” heart, who blames himself for Cinderpaw disobeying him and falling into Tigerclaw’s trap.
I’m talking about Bracken “if I had jumped higher I could have saved him” fur who blames himself (but is not blamed by others) for Snowkit’s death.

"LOVE" as seen in A Starless Clan
I wrote most of this while reading Shadow, but my feelings on the matter still haven’t changed, now having finished the book.
I don’t like how Warriors handles most of their romantic relationships, and maybe it’s just my demiromantic brain taking the reigns here, but even still, Warriors has a problem.
Read on! A semi-coherent ranting below. Spoilers for book 3 Shadow of A Starless Clan!

FROSTPAW is not in love with Splashtail
She has a crush built on her own infatuation and inaccurate expectations of love, and that’s understandable as she’s young and literally has no parents left to teach and guide her. The last thing anyone should expect from their own trusted clanmates is manipulation. Before it was revealed that Splashtail had ulterior motives for getting involved with Frostpaw, I was really nervous that they would actually become mates. There is nothing of real substance between them. But now we know that Splashtail is in fact using her affections to manipulate her in his favor. With the amount of gaslighting that he uses on Frostpaw and how she’s so annoyed by him second-guessing her decisions, I’m surprised she still has a crush on him. It’s really sad to see someone inexperienced in life be manipulated by an older, trusted individual, especially when “love” is involved.  From our perspective as well as Frostpaw's, Splashtail is never supportive with what she wants, and he’s never once shown signs of what actual love looks like. Like...putting the other person first...considering their feelings...supporting their dreams...taking an interest in them as a person...and the list goes on. Very concerning and predatory, and I hope Mothwing gets to beat the living shit out of Splashtail when everything is revealed in the end. Or better yet, have Frostpaw do it now that she has warrior training. Imagine Frostpaw pummeling him, eyes flooded with tears, grey fur stained red, and her body quaking with pain and fury. “I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME! YOU USED ME! MY…MY MOTHER DIED BECAUSE OF YOU!”
If Frostpaw doesn't get her moment, ima be upset.

NIGHTHEART is not in love with Sunbeam
He may find Sunbeam attractive and enjoys her company and attention, but that is the extent of his feelings, and he’s lying to himself when he says otherwise.
Nightheart busting into ShadowClan and proclaiming to everyone that he and Sunbeam are IN LOVE was absolutely embarrassing. I’m surprised no one really questioned him up front, or asked Sunbeam directly if she wanted Nightheart in ShadowClan or not. He “loves” Sunbeam because she’s giving him the validation he’s never gotten from loved ones, and Sunbeam just so happens to be a she-cat he can be mates with. Let’s be honest: if Sunbeam was a tom, Nightheart would have been less inclined to leave ThunderClan for ShadowClan… (actually…that would’ve been cool to see! Can’t cats switch clans for friendships, too, as they do for mates?)
Nightheart’s situation kind of feels like a patient falling for their therapist because they feel listened to and accepted and then blur the lines between "love" and "in love". I believe that he believes he loves Sunbeam, but they still have no foundation past, “Oh, you agree with me? Wow, I feel special. Let’s get together.” I also wanna mention that Nightheart JUST became a warrior. HE’S YOUNG. He’s barely been a warrior, and now he already wants to take a mate? Maybe it’s just cat hormones at work, but calm down man.
If we had gotten to see Nightheart realize that he actually didn’t romantically love Sunbeam and was just projecting, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING! Tragic but awesome for the plot and his character progression.  I thought that's what the plot was being set up for, because we see Nightheart ignore Sunbeam whenever it suits him, worry her, question her, and never ask what SHE FEELS about him. It’s all about Nightheart.
Nightheart should have faced consequences for the hurt he’s dealt. Show Sunbeam resenting him instead of going after him. And show Squirrelflight rejecting his request to rejoin ThunderClan instead of just accepting him back like he didn’t abandon and embarrass them. I actually think a rogue Nightheart arc would have been interesting! Make him learn about being an adult, that not everything revolves around him, and that other people have emotions too. Show that his initial problems weren’t as big as he thought they were and have things put into perspective. Imagine he befriends like this old rugged stray who's seen some shit, and they just put Nightheart in his place at some point and tell him to grow up and make amends with his family cause life’s too short, and cats die before we’re ready for them too.
Have Nightheart return to the clans after experiencing some real-life shit somewhere, more mature and changed on a much deeper level.
Tumblr media
SUNBEAM is not in love with Nightheart.
And it’s painful to read her inner dialogue about him, trying to manifest romantic feelings when they’re nonexistent. She wants to be in love with him, but she wasn't for most of the book. If anything, I’m given the impression that Sunbeam felt as though Nightheart was indebted to her love because he’s already made sacrifices for her in their relationship. And he did, which only puts Sunbeam in a worse situation.
Imagine you just met someone that you’re kinda into, but it’s new. Now imagine that person selling their house, all their possessions, basically disowning their own family, and then suddenly showing up at YOUR HOUSE, in front of YOUR FAMILY, and just being like, “I’m here now because I love you. And you love me too, right?”
That’s messed up.  Is that love in the air? No, it’s emotional manipulation.
Sunbeam likes his personality, his demeanor, finds him handsome, and the two can relate to each other on some level. But there’s no real love behavior between them, previous or current. Nightheart is self-serving and thoughtless. I’m pleased Sunbeam made the point to say that Nightheart needs to want to be in ShadowClan for himself and not just for Sunbeam because he’s not loyal to ShadowClan. He just wants Sunbeam. And if I were Tigerstar, I’d be very hesitant to let him come into my clan on his current pretenses. What happens if Sunbeam doesn’t love him back, or they break up? If Nightheart loses that support and validation from Sunbeam, will he whine and cry, and run away from ShadowClan because he’s “not understood?”
Sunbeam deserves better.
My thoughts after reading Shadow
I hate…I HATE how everything went down between Sunbeam and Nightheart. I was so excited when Nightheart realized he wanted to be in ThunderClan, and wanted to make amends with his kin and leave ShadowClan.
And I love that Sunbeam felt deeply hurt and betrayed by him because she had every right to be. He used her to escape from his own problems, put so much pressure on her, and then when she finally grew romantic feelings for him, he dumped her.
We could’ve seen Sunbeam have an arc of being bitter and angry, and aligning with her mother’s ambitions because of her resentment.  BUT INSTEAD. SHE FOLLOWS HIM TO THUNDERCLAN.
“There’s no other tom for me in ShadowClan.”
GIRL. There are toms who will treat you right. Maybe not in ShadowClan, but they exist. Don’t chase the boy that broke your heart!
Idk man... This feels like a missed opportunity for some actual good drama between two main characters that could have gone somewhere tragic. I imagine some ObsessedSunbeam!AU could easily be made here, especially after her having that dream that another she-cat put the moves on her man and she was PISSED. I doubt we’ll see a love-crazed Sunbeam in canon, but it’s a fun concept.
sigh.
I guess Nightheart will just get off scot-free, messing with Sunbeam’s emotions and putting ThunderClan through so much unnecessary shit.
I’m still curious to see where everything will go in the upcoming books. Maybe there’s still room for something real to happen between Sunbeam and Nightheart…
But really, im much more invested in what's goin on with the frost baby,, ;-;

Oh god, I didn't even consider the idea of Dovewing dying in Ivypool's SE. And while Dovewing is becoming more loved, I can absolutely see the editors/writing team deciding to kill her off because of the constant hate she got- and she HAS Birchkit who could become the next ShadowClan POV if that happened too. I think the worst possible option is Squirrelflight dying both for manpain with Bramblestar and so Ivypool, being acting deputy struggles with whether or not she wants to be leader, and Dovewing dying just so we feel sorry for her. I think I'd genuinely stop paying attention to ASC if they're killed off for drama lol, unless like Ivypool gets Dovewing killed because of her rash actions and finally has to deal with the consequences of her behavior. THAT at least could be interesting and a good reason for her to doubt her ability to lead when her hot headedness got Dovewing killed, buuuuuuut given that even after she interfered with sending a rescue party for SkyClan the Erins/narrative coddle her and have everyone forgive her and justify her actions? Even if she straight up gets Dovewing killed, I can already see the book bending backwards to defend her and people acting like it's Dovewing's fault. 💀
Tigerheart and Ivypool mean nothing to me without Dovewing, even Shadowsight and Lightleap being her kids is what elevates them for me. She's just That Good. If they kill her off I'm throwing rocks!!!! I feel like they wouldn't but, you know, they have a pretty blatant disregard for their female characters and you can't be sure -_- I especially don't want her to be thrown to the meat grinder for Ivypool's arc of all things, she already has a dead daughter we don't need more mince meat relatives!!!!
AVOS!Ivypool is so frustrating, like the books have always been awful about the code stringent characters that it peddles out. People's reactions to her in Tigerheart's Shadow drove me NUTS she is not being rational, she is being controlling and petty! THAT'S BAD WHY ARE YOU SAYING SHE'S RIGHT. Characters who are controlling and needy and petty are so good....but the narrative has to play into that, it has to acknowledge it to be fun to read. Ivypool clinging onto her sister would be fun if the text didn't want to constantly remind me how noble and loving she really is because of the code or whatever. I know the two technically reconciled but like. come on.
Seeing as how I still have to wade through "Dovewing abandoned her" takes, we must band together and fight for her tooth and nail to protect her.

I've always thought that Firestar's Quest and the rebuilding of Skyclan is a fascinating concept that was given to a character that didn't really need it. Firestar is great and has plenty of content to show it, his interpersonal conflict with Sandstorm over Spottedleaf just isn't very interesting outside of rebuilding Skyclan. So instead I present my AU where Blackfoot rebuilds Skyclan.
Instead of canon, Russetfur confronts Blackfoot after the Bloodclan battle and makes a bid for Shadowclan's leadership in front of the other leaders. Shadowclan is her home and she wishes to protect it from another tyrannical leader, which Blackfoot always supported. It is agreed that the clans will be given a night to bury their dead and a gathering will be held in a day to tie up lose ends. Runningnose; paranoid of what could come from Blackfoot's leadership and so incredibly tired of the bloodshed; puts his support in Russetfur. Blackfoot is exiled under threat of death from every clan and flees clan territory when the gathering concludes.
He shelters in unknown twoleg place far from where he previously stayed, which was Bloodclan land. Instead he finds himself resting in old Skyclan territory and for the first time in years Cloudstar has access to a warrior who can contact Starclan. Cloudstar visits Blackfoot and demands him to rebuild his clan, which otherwise directionless Blackfoot accepts in a heartbeat. With a renewed purpose he sets out for the gorge.
Just the concept of Blackfoot being faced with the consequences of his actions under Brokenstar and Tigerstar is so compelling. He isn't reduced to being too oblivious to notice/immediately accepted by Starclan and gets a second chance outside of the forest to change. Being incredibly anti-outsider having to challenge his outlook by forming a full clan of cats out of what he would consider weak rogues and kittypets. Realizing how wrong he was. How much hardship Skyclan faced when they were driven out and how he had a hand in almost giving the same fate to Windclan. While he may never know of the forest again, what could've been had Russetfur not challenged him, he finds new ancestors and a new family to call his own.

The Evil Firestar AU, or the Firemask AU, is a warrior cats alternate universe
Everything goes as normal, but when Rusty joins the clans, he is apprenticed to Tigerclaw (who is very unhappy about it). Ravenpaw is the apprentice of Bluestar. Meanwhile, Mapleshade is very interested in this new kittypet in ThunderClan (who starts talking his way in and out of trouble and saying very radical ideas about unifying the clans), and begins teaching him how to lie in the DF. There's a subplot of DF politics, but mostly things go as normal. Firepaw manages to convince Tigerclaw not to kill Ravenpaw for finding out about Redtail, and the apprentices all get their warrior names after rescuing the kits from ShadowClan.
Firepaw is named Firemask for the darker orange mask around his eyes.
Tigerclaw ends up killing Bluestar, and naming Darkstripe as deputy. Firemask kills Darkstripe. During that time, Cinderpaw has her accident in a trap that was set for Firemask. Tigerstar acknowledges the game has begun, and after that Swiftpaw and Brightpaw end up attempting to lead the dogs to Tigerstar. They fail, and both are badly wounded, Tigerstar killing Swiftpaw and leaving Brightpaw to die. Firemask and Ravencall (Ravenpaw's warrior name) bring her to the RiverClan border, telling her to run.
Firemask starts his own little group of his supporters.
With great reluctance from everyone involved, Cloudkit is brought to ThunderClan. Firemask starts worrying, and this gets worse when Graystripe and eventually Sandstorm leave for RiverClan (Sandstorm was going to have his kits, and didn’t want them to grow up there). After the TigerClan merges with ShadowClan, he stuffs deathberries in Tigerstar's prey, and that takes his second to last life. Then BloodClan attacks, along with RiverClan and WindClan. This time Scourge doesn't really care about taking over the forest, he just wants to kill Tigerstar. In the midst of the battle, Scourge and Firemask kill Tigerstar a second time, and the TigerClan cats are matched into the RiverClan camp.
Firemask manages to convince Leopardstar not to exile him, and gets passive aggressive nine lives. He is forced into picking Greystripe for his deputy (Ravencall was his first choice). He's not pissed, but not overjoyed at it.
He sort of reconciles with Sandstorm, and that's how the first arc goes. Mapleshade is clowning on Thistleclaw at the end.
That's the basic summary of the first arc, but there is a lot that I didn't go into.
This is the masterpost for those changes!

Also dare I say that I really don't care that Lionblaze "accidentally" killed Russetfur or that he hurt her in self defense or to save Firestar or whatever when ThunderClan provoked that entire battle against ShadowClan. So arguably, Russetfur was ALSO acting in self defense, albeit harshly. And anyways this doesn't matter because it makes sense that ShadowClan would be upset that their deputy literally died in an avoidable unreasonable pointless battle. Like I get reader bias is a thing but if anything, it'd be weird if people DIDN'T hate Lionblaze for that and he got zero consequences. Like, he killed an important political figure, one who most of ShadowClan has known their entire lives. They are not being stupid and whiny for hating on him. Imagine if someone walked in and shot your grandma dead in front of you bc she smacked another guy's grandpa for smacking her first and when you got angry they were like "WOAH WOAH BITCH! I didn't MEAN to shoot her dead, I just meant to scare her away!" and all those guys' friends were like "god yeah you're being really annoying right now :/ she was old anyways, why was she even out in public? You should have expected this to happen. She deserved it anyways cause she smacked that guy. Take a chill pill its literally whatever."

I know you’re not rewriting ASC yet but would BB!Puddleshine be the kind of guy to agree with Berry to pull a ‘gotcha’ like in canon? Or would he agree with her wholeheartedly?
Tumblr media
^^^ Actual picture of me preparing to wreck the "gotcha" moment in ASC when I finally commit to rewrites of it a few books from now
Gotcha Moment Bad. BB!Puddleshine isn't an idiot like his canon counterpart is, apparently. Fym "one issue" I'm still seething. It's one big ass issue.
Especially since BB!Puddleshine is most likely someone who would agree with Berryheart. He's one of the cats who ALLOWED The Kin to absorb ShadowClan, and he feels responsible for the death of so many Clanmates. He's blaming the wrong things, becoming xenophobic because of Darktail, and EXTRA distrustful of outsiders because of how Ashfur manipulated his apprentice.
I can't say for sure what I'm going to do with the Vote Gathering, because I CAN promise you, this is going to be a VERY important, climactic moment. I NEED to know where the arc ends, because the fallout from THIS event is going to lead DIRECTLY to it.
But I am thinking of options. I know that, by this point, Berryheart's hate movement HAS gotten Antfur killed, and there are direct, serious consequences for her political radicalization within ShadowClan. At least one person has been hurt.
So options...
She calls for the vote, it fails, and it causes her to do something drastic. I quite like this one because it would lead to a really good scene where I can make every major player state their exact intentions. Anyone jumping ship from Berryheart would do it now-- like Gullswoop, for example, or perhaps Stonewing. I could also have Puddleshine rule that because Heartstar is occupying RiverClan, they have the right to vote too. Which would make it EXTRA fascinating if it failed, and make it clear that she's not a tyrant here.
She calls for the vote and it succeeds. Just, an option. It might end up being a good choice to have Cloverfoot take over, but then IMMEDIATELY set Tigerheart as her deputy again. Show that she has disdain for her sister's movement.
Berryheart refuses to call a vote at all because it is a change to the code. I do like the hypocrisy angle of her calling a vote when these changes are the very things she opposes... but also, I kinda dig the idea that someone else (maybe even Heartstar herself) stopped some kind of attempt at power Berryheart made, and said, "ok bitch. let's do this like civilized cats. Puddsy, ring up that vote."
This is one of those very VERY sensitive moments that I have the "no rewrites in advance" rule for. So I can't commit.
But I am Thinking about it.

My theory still stands that I think Tigerstar is getting demoted.
And I think Frostpaws POV in ShadowClan could be what shows it that.
There is no way there was such a heavy emphasis on Tigerstar being wrong for what he did and that he was even going against StarClans wishes and that his warriors were clearly unhappy with him and then hat just gets ignored with Tigerstar never getting any consequences.
But now that Berryheart is gone, who do I think is gonna run this show from here?
Frostpaw.
I know, she seems be kinda neutral on him at the moment? I know a lot of people want her to be close to him and all but I would HATE if that happened.
SHE SHOULD STILL BE UPSET ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN RIVERCLAN!!!!
My theory is that he only allowed her because he didn’t like Splashtail and/or he was upset because HE wanted to be the one to pick the next RiverClan leader or HE wanted to be the hero in the end and prove everyone wrong.
I think she should hear about what Berryheart had set up and wonder if she was right about wanting to get rid of Tigerstar and just went about it wrong?
I think she should think Cloverfoot might help and be the one to make Lightleap and Shadowsight realize that maybe he shouldn’t be leader.
Lightleap herself saw the terrible things that Tigerstar did. She was MISERABLE in RiverClan.
Shadowsight would be the medicine cat they need to get the plan in action.
Frostpaw being the one to do this might get cats like Yarrowleaf to realize that maybe cats from outside the clan might not be the absolute worst.
It’s a bit of a stretch especially since it would have to be a plot line that would be happening at the same time as her planning a way to get rid of Splashtail and Whistlepaw somehow being relevant and also I seriously don’t think they are actually setting up a “get rid of Tigerstar we don’t like him anymore” plot right now. But a fan can dream.
Also Cloverstar w/ Dovewing as her deputy when. IT WOULD MAKE A BEAUTIFUL PARALLEL TO IVYPOOL AND SQUIRRELSTAR
This would be so good. I would honestly be very disappointed if Tigerstar isn’t demoted by the end of this arc. He just keeps getting away with things, he hasn’t reaped what he has sown yet. And we know that he doesn’t have a majority of the clan’s full support (unless Berryheart lied? But if she did surely everyone would have refuted her?) because she managed to successfully pass the “75% of the clan” vote to get Tigerstar demoted in order for her to then go to Puddleshine about it. I feel that Frostpaw’s pov will mainly be witnessing a brewing conflict within ShadowClan itself inbetween her trying to help RiverClan.
I have no doubt that Tigerstar’s intentions are not fully for the sake of Frostpaw, he’s definitely up to something. Nothing he does is without some kind of personal agenda. Even him helping the resistance in TBC only came about after Tawnypelt mentioned that if nothing was done the imposter could come after Tigerstar’s power next.
