tuesday again 3/5/2024
really fucking around in Breath of the Wild and not defeating Ganon, even though i think i am fairly well prepared, which is probably indicative of something or a metaphor for some larger issue. oh well! guess we'll never know!
listening
Rock the Jungle by The Daniel Pemberton TV Orchestra, off an album of music from and inspired by LittleBigPlanet, a video game i have never played. Daniel Pemberton is a remarkably prolific british composer who mostly does film these days but also does a lot of BBC stuff.
youtube
this is the kind of scrubby pad to the brain electronica i need sometimes. i think these are heavily filtered and processed kookaburra sounds? at about the minute fifteen mark it adds a rolling, rollicking bassline that is, as im sure we all know by now, fucking catnip to me. at about 2:20 it adds alarm blares that fade in and out of a sort of disco-y organ? it uses its five minute runtime pretty well imo. i think this was off the spotify discover weekly.

Tumblr media
T Kingfisher's The Clockwork Boys, recced by @rae-being-naughty lo these many months ago, and my library hold finally came in. the goodreads blurb is a remarkably accurate sales pitch so let's yoink that
A paladin, an assassin, a forger, and a scholar ride out of town. It’s not the start of a joke, but rather an espionage mission with deadly serious stakes. T. Kingfisher’s new novel begins the tale of a murderous band of criminals (and a scholar), thrown together in an attempt to unravel the secret of the Clockwork Boys, mechanical soldiers from a neighboring kingdom that promise ruin to the Dowager’s city. If they succeed, rewards and pardons await, but that requires a long journey through enemy territory, directly into the capital. It also requires them to refrain from killing each other along the way! At turns darkly comic and touching, Clockwork Boys puts together a broken group of people trying to make the most of the rest of their lives as they drive forward on their suicide mission.
i had a lot of fun with this! very pratchett-esque in its imperial critique through bureaucratic loopholes thereof, which is catnip to me, but i do think Kingfisher is simply better at writing women. the forger is an only child and it fucking shows.
i think if it were 5% more devoted to Humorous Bits and didn't have some nice character work between the forging accountant and the big sad blond paladin man, i would have gotten frustrated with it. i think it is simply more of a comedy than any of its blurbs suggest, and it can be difficult to ride that line between comedy and character growth through desperate acts without getting a little bit of whiplash. this is me being very depressed and a bit nitpicky though. the line "Time passed, like a kidney stone" is going to stick in my brain for a while. i already have the sequel on hold

watching
if you do nothing else today could you please watch this car chase for me? ok thanks
youtube
Gunsmith Cats is a three-episode OVA that's a fancam of the american city of chicago and the cool girls that live and shoot and drive there, but let's just yank the MyAnimeList description
In the dangerous suburbs of Chicago, skilled bounty hunters Irene "Rally" Vincent and "Minnie" May Hopkins run Gunsmith Cats, a firearms store of questionable legality. One day, Bill Collins, an agent for the Chicago branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, blackmails Rally and May into working with him on a case. The stakes are high, but Rally’s gunmanship and May’s knowledge of explosives are unmatched. As Rally and May unravel the secrets of the case, the two will need to use guns and grenades while being faster, stronger, and better than everyone else in order to stay alive.
youtube
all three episodes are free (in really nice quality) on youtube. i pitched this to wendy as "rally is jigen lupinthethird's little sister" and her driving skills and marksmanship... i'm not sure who would win between them but i wouldn't like to live on the difference.
animators, historically, hate animating guns and cars, except for the masochistic ones who use it to flex. there are at least three shots in each episode where i want to stand up and hold my cat above my head and hoot like a fuckin tusken raider. in the first episode, there's a raid on a smuggling warehouse (you know, a warehouse) where the BATF agent and Rally throw each other their guns and have a really cool FALLING OFF A CATWALK back to back shootout. it's hard to describe. watch the episode. i wish there were more than three episodes.
this is an OVA that, aside from the requisite panty shot and WHOOPS my whole shirt tore (one of each per episode per girl) is fairly normal about women? rally and minnie are...roommates. that bicker and eat pizza. they have a cool network of other slightly shady women they interact with a lot, and the big bad for most of the episodes is also a woman. this isn't like a bastion of feminism or anything it's just neat. sort of middling on the ass portion of the Weeb Ass Shit scale. low on the weeb and shit parts too. again this is a fancam of chicago with cool girls
i watched this bc i was trying to use up kanopy credits and came across the precursor to this, Riding Bean, which i did not love for several reasons (the big one being the legitimately pedophilic lesbian relationship) but the creator took the concept of Rally out of that forty minute...experiment? and that led me to Gunsmith Cats. thank u ppl who put free anime on youtube

playing
Tumblr media
still futzing about in breath of the wild. fucking around with sidequests and a sudden need to at least discover all the shrines.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
for example, i did all the labyrinth shrines. underneath the akkala labyrinth is the scariest room in the world, bc six of those fuckers are alive and they will all target you the instant you open that chest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
cannot be bothered with the eventide island shrine yet (the roguelike) bc it frustrates the hell out of me. did the thyplo forest one, which was extremely annoying bc it dimmed my whole TV screen (including the UI) instead of just dimming the game itself. im sure someone thought that would be such a cool detail but instead i found it extremely annoying and vey difficult to swap weapons or start campfires.
Tumblr media
and then i trundled through a list of shrine quests, bc i apparently had TWELVE missing?? three were korok trials, one was eventide (apparently it only shows up as a quest if you are on the island or have finished it, bc if u die on the island it kicks you back to a pre-island save lmao) so for the others: three i just had to talk to people to officially start and then immediately complete the quest. remember when i was anxious about softlocking myself out of the jungle dragon shrine quest bc i went right there instead of talking to Kass? never fear, nintendo's got my back
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"kay how did you possibly miss reading the giant stone tablet to start this quest--" i am not a clever woman. i go "oh i know what to do!!!" when i see the Orb and hare off without looking around further.
Tumblr media
A Brother's Roast i missed bc i forgot to talk to everyone in Goron City after defeating rudania, didn't run across Test of Will (the Goron challenge in the Gerudo highlands) bc i forgot to look off that side of the tower and was very focused on gliding into the labyrinth at the right spot, and didn't run across Guardian Slideshow on the far south beaches bc i hadn't explored there yet.
A Stolen Heirloom was deeply annoying. i had four out of five quests complete to unlock this, but there is an unmarked side quest where you have to go into this lady's house at night to figure out she wants fireflies. maybe she has some ambient daytime barks about this? i have never heard them. this was a little obtuse. also i don't love the stealth in this game. this game's stealth really works when you are well out of detection range bc u have a sniper bow, and i find it works less well for me when i have to follow a target. no i haven't finished the korok stealth trial either.
Tumblr media
non-shrine nonsense:
ive been using Stasis as a sort of VATS equivalent. in fallout, i like to hit VATS every once in a while just to see who's out there. how many radroaches are nearby. this also highlights most interactable things which i think is nice of the game
Tumblr media
gerudo town stuff: i missed this sand seal racing challenge by SO little the first time which annoyed me so much, it took me six more tries to beat the damn thing. i am very charmed that they actually put in a garden for the kid who was trying to grow a garden!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
some beach vegetation mysteries: im really baffled by this singular hearty radish growing in full sun in what is essentially sand with a dusting of palm bark. all the other hearty radishes i have seen are in deep forests with partial sun and lots of leaf litter. what the hell is this then. plus a neat little unique sea wrack? korok circle instead of the usual lilypads.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i didn't know this game knew how to do rainbows at all, let alone double ones!
Tumblr media
i will leave you with my many attempts to make stamina potions.

making
making things requires both the perfect levels of anxiety (too little anxiety and im out doing normal people things, too much anxiety and i shut down, a medium level means im frantically making things to distract myself. we are at the high end of medium) and some level of income bc i inevitably need one or two things to finish projects. eg we are at the level of anxiety where i am only able to do simple things like repainting a whole bunch of big frames for my maps (procured when i had money) but i need more matboard. so they are sitting, 90% finished, in my office closet.
garden update: more than half my bush beans came up with no leaves and promptly died, which could be due to any number of things but im choosing to believe it's bc my bestie's five year old planted them a little too deeply. so it goes. all the sweet peas are fine, all my normal peas and most of my regular climbing beans came up. a little annoyed bc only a third of my nasturtiums came up even after soaking them for 24h as recommended. the shit i Bought (tomatoes, marigolds, mint, rosemary) is doing fine. the spinach and dill i planted are doing fine too, although the spinach also had about a 50% germination rate. this does mean i don't need to thin them but. Hm. yanno?

Hey! I don't know if you've done a post on this already, and if you have, I'm sorry for asking again. But how do you practice discipline and self-control? It's something I struggle with a lot :/
I actually want to answer this a bit differently. We always opt to describing habits you need to adopt to be more disciplined, as well as tools and techniques. Things like, setting goals, creating a routine, setting a schedule, prioritizing, etc.
But no one ever talks about the mindset you need to have. It goes back to why we aren't disciplined in the first place.
For example, to be discipline you need:
Commitment: You need to be committed to your goals and the actions necessary to achieve them. This means being willing to make sacrifices and persevere through challenges.
Self-awareness: You need to be aware of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to recognize when you're losing focus or engaging in self-defeating behaviors. This can help you make conscious choices and adjust your actions accordingly.
Focus on the long-term: Having discipline and self-control often requires sacrificing short-term gratification for long-term gains. You need to be able to keep your eye on the big picture and avoid getting sidetracked by immediate pleasures or distractions.
Positive attitude: A positive attitude can help you stay motivated and resilient, even when facing obstacles or setbacks. Cultivate a growth mindset, embrace challenges as opportunities to learn, and celebrate your successes along the way.
Consistency: Discipline and self-control require consistent effort over time. Establishing a routine and sticking to it can help you build habits that support your goals.
But why aren't we disciplined?
Most people don't really have goals. Or their goals are so high and far from attainable in comparison to where they are now. Discipline is tied to confidence. We achieve a small task, we realize its possible... boosts confidence. Next task is a little bigger etc.
Because most don't do this there is:
Lack of motivation: Without a clear goal or strong motivation, it can be difficult to stay focused and disciplined. People may struggle to find a compelling reason to pursue their goals or to maintain the effort required to achieve them.
Poor time management: Without effective time management skills, it can be challenging to prioritize tasks and avoid distractions. People may struggle to balance competing demands on their time, leading to procrastination or incomplete tasks.
Negative self-talk: Negative self-talk can undermine motivation and confidence, making it difficult to maintain discipline. People may doubt their abilities or focus too much on their shortcomings, leading to feelings of frustration or hopelessness.
To overcome these barriers, people need to learn several key skills, including:
Goal-setting: Setting clear, achievable goals can help people stay motivated and focused. By breaking down larger goals into smaller, achievable steps, people can build momentum and stay engaged in the process.
Time management: Effective time management involves setting priorities, avoiding distractions, and scheduling tasks to maximize productivity. People can learn strategies such as batching tasks, setting deadlines, and using tools like calendars or productivity apps to stay organized and on track.
Positive self-talk: By cultivating a positive attitude and practicing self-compassion, people can develop the resilience needed to maintain discipline. Learning to reframe negative thoughts and focus on strengths and accomplishments can help people stay motivated and maintain their commitment to their goals.
Same goes with lack of self control. We lack self control because we are addicted to dopamine highs. We are quite literally not in control of our own lives, and are fueled by extreme emotions. You need to really want something. Accept delayed gratification. Motivate yourself by the end result and most importantly HOLD yourself accountable. Which will happen once you believe that you are truly able to achieve what you want.

Hiii everybody. 👋😁
Just wanted to pop in and see how you're all doing. Pls know that if u need a friend or a non biased shoulder to lean on I'm here for you. If you need encouragement or a friendly reminder to take your meds, I'm here for you.
I also take meds to help with my mental health and well-being, it is what it is. I do it consistently everyday and in the end it's what's best for me because I have a much better quality of life than I once did. I was like so many people, going through life undiagnosed, frustrated and feeling overwhelmed and confused not understanding what was wrong with me. It's ok that my brain is wired a bit differently, I deal with it responsibly and take accountability for my actions and mistakes. I'm only human after all its ok to make mistakes and we all to trip and fall along the way sometimes, its how we get back up from the fall that matters. One thing that comforts me is knowing bad days don't last forever, eventually the dark clouds pass and the sun returns and I feel my mind clear up and I can think straight again.
The thing is our over all attitude about life is what will lead to peace or to war with one's self and by extension others. Also our lack of self awareness and lack of discipline over ourselves is what makes us our own greatest enemy. We give in too easily to our emotions and desires, we hold onto false ideologies that in the end hurt us more than help us. Constantly stressing ourselves over things we can't control leads to constant tension in our mind and body which amplifies the symptoms of said mental illness and can lead to aggression or apathy. We must learn coping skills, to self sooth and calm ourselves when we feel like we may explode from over stimulation or we end up lashing out at the world and life becomes all the more difficult. As if we need more problems when our mental health causes enough of it's own.
Life has it's share of pain and suffering but it also have its beautiful moments. No one ever said growth was going to be easy but it is necessary to having a more balanced life that isn't constantly falling apart due to short sighted choices and chasing pleasure over self discipline and patience.

9. worst part of canon
archie is so rocky that idk how to answer it so im answering it about naruto. its the fact that it twists its spine to keep the military government lol. the emotional developments were good but the fact that the society as a whole changes very little beyond peace treaties that dont give you a lot of reason to believe they'll hold makes it very unsatisfying and frustrating even if i think it makes for interesting characterization on an individual level. its interesting for tsunade and kakashi and jiraiya etc to be hinged on this is the way it has to work bc idk what else it would be but for naruto it doesnt make sense like i dont think he would know all that about everything and still be like we can make this work. im thinking of having this realization be part of b2 since i think i could understand it being an aftermath thing esp bc the story also ended with sasuke thinking very highly of itachi and not fully mentally holding him accountable/recognizing how deeply itachi specifically is responsible for the trauma he endured, but i think thats definitely something sasuke would slowly begin to realize and i think thats when naruto would also start to realize it. ive been bouncing back and forth on what i think narutos opinion is of itachi i cant decide. but also this is such a massive thing to deal with in a story that i really wanted to be more about emotional growth than political change, but the story is so deeply tied to its politics that its difficult to reconcile with their states of mind improving but the governments staying the same...... difficult. problem for later
13. worst blorboficiation
shadow... theres obv characters that people Get Deeply Wrong but shadow is the one that its like most definable as "blorbofication"... a guy can never just be sort of unpleasant to be around
20. part of canon you found tedious or boring
I DONT LIKE THE LOST IN SPACE ARC.. im sorry... i wouldve been way more interested in seeing the progression of things on the ground specifically wrt sally and buntoine, and i dont have any particular fondess for tails parents so im not that interested in learning about them or seeing them even tho i agree theyre important to later arcs.... its just tedious and involving a lot of just goofy antics that idc abouttttt i want to know about sally and about how antoine is acting strange

VentureBeat's GamesBeat 2015 conference was held in October. It was an amazing conference that I was fortunate enough to attend. VentureBeat is regarded as one of the best blogs on the internet by The New York Times. VentureBeat is a leading source for technology innovation news events, research, and perspectives, and their GamesBeat conference, now in its seventh year draws on these qualities and focuses on the latest tech trends in the gaming industry.
So when Authy was invited to take part in GamesBeat 2015 we were over the moon. It's not often that business and pleasure mix so seamlessly. Authy helps online brands protect their data and protect their customers by making it easy to integrate two-factor authentication into their service offerings. We also enjoy playing games which means that we are more likely to play on a platform that has improved security. https://urbanislovar.com/
Gamers Losing Trust?
Hackers are a hot commodity for gamers and game developers thanks to the growth of virtual economies on gaming sites. On the black market gaming profiles can be bought for thousands of dollars. Cybercriminals are particularly attracted to games with multiple players and the $11billion annual revenues they generate. The in-game currencies of multiplayer games, like World of Warcraft gold, can be stolen, exchanged and then easily converted for real money, usually in different countries, and without game developers having any idea. Even if a company is able to restores stolen assets, and/or succeeds in prosecuting the actors accountable, this kind of crime is difficult to overcome. The gamer loses confidence in the game. Even if a new or more secure version is released, it is not easy to restore confidence.
But it isn't necessary to be that way
As players become frustrated by the frequent data breaches, they demand more responsible stewardship of their data from companies. We all know that passwords aren't enough however we also are aware that a second authentication method can be used to verify the identity of an individual. This will protect your players and your service from data loss, fraud, or malicious attacks. Two-factor authentication is a perfect fit, especially in multi-user online games where players trade and accumulate value.
Security in just 10 Lines of Code
Integrating two-factor authentication isn't difficult-well, it is if you try to build it yourself. This is essentially my GamesBeat 2015 presentation. Integrating Authy two-factor authentication is simple, powerful and reliable. With only 10 lines of code you can begin using two-factor authentication to:
Verify that players are registered and logged in to protect high-value transactions and game progress. You can also secure any game-related activity.
Yes. Authy for Minecraft.
To illustrate the idea, I created two-factor authentication in Minecraft to demonstrate:
- SMS or text-to-voice at log-in with Authy OneCode - One Time Passcode generation for player verification with Authy SoftToken. For the most minimal, non-intrusive user experience, you can send a push notification using Authy One Touch, where all a player has to do is swipe their smartphone's screen to gain access to in-game purchases or any other action that requires an additional level of security.
Hackers are no longer just after end-user data. Hackers are now targeting entire player communities and some are even looking to take down entire systems. Two-factor authentication will make gaming developers more secure. Developer account data will also be more secure. Brands will build trust and loyalty in its player base.
As developers are aware, integrations between applications can be a cumbersome development effort. With Authy we've put in a lot of effort to ensure that it's easy to use for any developer. The Authy REST API handles all the details that are required, including key management and secure data structuring. And you get 2 simple end-points as well as pre-built libraries to improve security to your login process with the language of your choice: PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, NodeJS and many more.
If You're a Developer:
Head to https://www.authy.com/developers/ to learn more. You can obtain an API key for free, try it out, and show us how you've integrated Authy #2FA.

The Importance of Supporting Small Farmers in the Pursuit of Philippine Economic Development
Tumblr media
OBSERVATION
Farming has been the way of life for most people in the Philippines. But because technology is always advancing and people want to be part of the latest and greatest, the government is now more into industrialization and urban development. This has caused some tension between farmers and the business sector since their land is being used for industrialization, and they are left with nothing. Although it’s a big debate on whether the country should prioritize agrarian reform or industrialization for its economic development, it is not a new one because, historically, our country has relied on agriculture as a major contributor to the economy.
Growing up, I’ve always heard this issue on TVs, radios and even read them on the internet. It seems the debate always ends up in an impasse because all the parties involved, the farmers and landowners, and the business sector, are never satisfied with what’s being offered on the table. This ongoing and persistent shift of modernization has caused significant changes in the way of life for many Filipinos, especially those in rural areas who depend on agriculture. I am a firm believer that the government should prioritize agrarian reform to support the farmers and the agricultural industry. On the other hand, I understand and would love to support the general proposals of the business sector so that we wouldn’t be left behind from the rest of the world in terms of modernization.
Tumblr media
INSIGHT
From my perspective lately, it's quite frustrating to see how our government and business sector are disregarding the importance of agriculture in the Philippines. The land that farmers have been working on for generations is the sole source of their livelihood. It's not fair that they have to suffer and lose their land just because the government wants to prioritize industrialization. I understand that industrialization can provide more job opportunities and boost the economy, but that shouldn't come at the expense of the farmers' welfare. It's important for the government to prioritize agrarian reform and provide support to the agricultural sector, as it can also contribute to the country's economic development, especially through export, and promote a more sustainable and healthier environment (Sulong Udyong!, 2014). It's a complex issue with no easy solution, but it's crucial to consider the impact on the farmers and the country's food security.
According to a report by the Philippine Statistics Authority, the country's economy bounced back in 2021 after a tough year due to the pandemic and recorded a 5.7 percent growth (Agricultural Accounts Division of the Philippine Statistics Authority, 2022). This highlights the significant role that agriculture still plays in the country's economy, despite the push towards industrialization and even with the drawbacks the country experienced because of the pandemic. Don't we owe it to them to show more support and provide them with the necessary benefits to sustain their livelihoods and help keep the economy afloat? We wouldn't have any food to eat without them, and we don't always appreciate that fact. It's not just about giving them the stuff they need to keep farming, but it's also about giving them the respect they deserve for working so hard. Since agriculture still plays a big part in our country's economy, we should support our farmers and make sure their hard work is noticed and rewarded.
Tumblr media
LEARNING
Although industrialization is a crucial aspect of economic development, I believe that our focus should shift towards ensuring that our farmers are well taken care of and can continue working in their element. The issue of agrarian reform versus industrialization is complex and requires careful consideration of the needs and aspirations of small farmers, who form a significant portion of our rural population. (It’s clear as day that it’s difficult to find a solution for as this topic and debate has been going on for decades but there is still no real solution.)
Thus, as most people can probably agree on and have been thinking for decades, the government must prioritize pursuing a genuine agrarian reform program that considers the needs of small farmers, such as redistributing land ownership, providing support, and promoting rural development. Our farmlands in the countryside can actually boost our economy, but only if we take care of them and give them the right support they need. The small farmers who've been working on these lands for a long time already have the skills and know-how to maximize their resources. They just need the necessary help to make it happen.
In conclusion, it is crucial to strike a balance between agrarian reform and industrialization in order to achieve sustainable economic growth. The government must prioritize the needs of small farmers and ensure that they are not left behind in the pursuit of industrial development. By doing so, we can create a society that values and supports our agricultural roots while also moving forward towards a brighter future.

VentureBeat is regarded as one of the best blogs on the internet according to The New York Times. VentureBeat is a top source for technology innovation news, events and research. Their GamesBeat conference, now in its seventh year, concentrates on the latest trends in gaming.
So when Authy was invited to participate in GamesBeat 2015, we were pumped. It's rare that business and pleasure can be so easily combined. At Authy we assist online companies secure their data and safeguard their customers by making it super simple to integrate two-factor authentication into their service offering. We also enjoy playing games and are more likely to play on a site that has increased their security.
Gamers Losing Trust?
Hackers are popular with game developers and gamers, thanks to the growth of virtual economies on gaming sites. On the black market gaming profiles can be purchased for thousands of dollars. But it's Multi-player games, and the $11 billion in annual revenue they generate and are the most lucrative targets of cybercriminals. Even if a business successfully restores the stolen assets, or succeeds in prosecuting the actors responsible, this kind of violation is hard to overcome. The gamer loses faith in the game. Even if a brand new or more secure game is released, it's difficult to regain confidence.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
As people become increasingly frustrated by endless data breaches they're demanding more responsible stewardship from the companies that hold their personal data. We all are aware that passwords don't provide enough security, we also recognize that using a secondary factor to confirm the identity of a user can protect your customers and your business from data loss, fraud and malicious attacks. Two-factor authentication is an excellent choice, particularly for online games with multiple players that allow players to accumulate and trade.
Security with just 10 lines Of Code

Integrations between applications can be a hassle for developers. We have worked hard to make Authy easy for developers. Rest Before You Even Need It
Recently, I've been having some bouts of low motivation and sadness. For the past year, I've been dealing with a very adult issue at home that involves money. Being one of two breadwinners in a household of five, I found that balancing one's passion and practicality isn't a walk in the park.
I've always said, "Mabigat sa pakiramdam na malaki ang pangarap ngunit maliit ang pagkakataon." This sentiment I've had since I've immersed myself in (young) adulthood carried me to always seek out the opportunity that would take me to my dreams and life goals. But it came with its own set of challenges as well. To give some context, the money issue was impeding my full attention to my studies - which is an important part of my growth right now. Because of this, I found it difficult to catch up with my studies. Granted, I am a working student. Yet, I feel like the emotional and mental load that I'm carrying is disproportionate to what my situation has.
Asking for help has been one of my solutions. I actually did reach out to my family members to discuss my needs. Unfortunately - and I am fully aware and accountable for what I'll say next - I feel like they have put my dreams are put at a lower value than someone else's in the family. And it sucks. While I can radically accept this situation, I also feel tired and upset that no one is helping me. The only piece of "comfort" that I receive is their remarks and reminders of how my personality is strong and I'm bolder than... the other person I referred to earlier.
Yes, I do think I am strong...
And I also get sad, tired, and frustrated too.
Just last week, I took it upon myself to talk to my program adviser, Doc Anna. She's known me for quite some time now, both as her student and as a former supervisee when I worked with her in a clinic. There are some aspects about myself that I trust her objectivity with. In that 1 hour conversation, I didn't expect to receive so much validation for my thoughts and, more importantly, my emotions. I am upset. I am tired. And I am worried for myself. Overall, she helped me paint my own picture of how hard it is to be in this situation and how to see the light at the end of this tunnel.
But the most important thing that brought legitimate tears in my eyes was when she said this: "I believe that you have the power to turn things around with what you have control over..."
Immediately, I started sobbing. We were on a phone call so I had to pause her and tell her what was happening. And in that moment I realized that those were words I haven't heard from anyone about me recently. That I had worth. That I had potential. And that I was doing the best that I can. I can honestly say that I'm tearing up just typing this.
What followed was a series of advice that I found useful in planning my next steps and making important decisions. But what struck me the most was that she pointed out how I needed to take more rests - now more than ever.
"When the going gets tougher and more painful, the more we should intentionally put time to rest and take care of ourselves," she said.
The breath that came out of my lungs exhaling was exquisite. It felt like the conversation was meant to soothe and empower me to take control. I needed to hear those words to realize that I wasn't really taking care of myself. I worked so many extra jobs and rakets these past weeks. I worried so much and got stuck in that state. I even ended up crying so much whenever I'm reminded of my problems. And yet, I still functioned as if nothing was bothering me.
Yeah... I need to rest. Even before I get to a point of burnout. Even before I get to a point of emotional numbness. The true healing that comes from rest is the intention. She's right - as the misery increases, so too must the soothing.

Hi! I have a ENFP friend who I love very much. We’ve been friends for a long time and very close. The thing is that as much as we like each other, whenever we’ve had uncomfortable moments she has taken distance from me (eg. I had a confrontation with her best friend and she stopped talking to me; once I snapped at her bc she kept crying about a guy that only made her suffer and she took distance since I was too harsh but instead of telling me I had to figure that out myself). My friends and I think she is very conflict avoidant, which makes it very difficult to reach out to her to fix things up. So that has led me to harbor some resentment towards her because I see her social media covered with her new friends or that best friend. The thing I don’t understand is that... the best friend is a guy that has called her idiot in the past or treats her roughly, but they are always together and yet she takes distance from me? So I feel I have to walk on eggshells every time I interact with her and treat her like a very delicate flower, I appreciate her so I don’t want to lose the friendship. Once she asked if everything was okay and I was very calming and told her “sure no problem! We just have different opinions about this subject and that’s gonna happen” and she started leaving me on read and sharing every tiny detail she did with her roommate on her stories. (My friends say she leaves them on read too). I am probably an ESTP, and I want to fix things up and talk to her about it. But I am honestly terrified that she’ll just distance herself even more. I mean, I barely talk to her now, rationally I think it wouldn’t make much difference. Another possibility is just to accept things as they appear and just move on. I can’t help but dwell into this every time I see my friend’s stories. TL;DR: my enfp friend is very conflict avoidant and I want to patch things up but I fear losing the friendship because she’s taken distance many times in the past. How can I approach this problem to her without her leaving? (Pd, she has anxiety issues but who doesn’t lol ok no)
It’s not unusual for a Fi user to “freeze someone out” if they don’t know how to talk about something, or have to process something on their own; but what you’re talking about goes beyond that into passive-aggressive behavior. She is “punishing” you by not talking directly to you, but leaving details of her life and close friendship with others in full view. She doesn’t know how to handle her feelings, she hasn’t learned to express her resentments directly yet, and she runs to other people for comfort whenever you disappoint her. She sounds like an Enneagram 9 struggling to set boundaries, express her true feelings, and be direct in sharing them.
You can’t change other people or force them into self-growth, so you have to ask yourself if the relationship is worth saving (by walking on eggshells and knowing she is going to do this to you whenever she’s mad about something you’ve said) in its current state, because unless she decides she’s sick of her behavior and does something about it, nothing about it is going to change. Can you be okay with her having friends you think are jerks and not talking about it? Can you be okay with her freeze-outs? How much joy and happiness does she bring into your life, compared against the way she frustrates you? I’ve heard that 7 out of 10 encounters should be positive and uplifting in a relationship; more than that, it’s “fake” and less than that, it’s contentious. How does yours rank?
Here’s the thing: the more that something happens to you, and the more you react to it in the same way, the deeper you dig a furrow into your brain that automatically triggers that response. You know how rounding a corner in a mall gives you a rush of “sweet smells” and makes you salivate for a cinnamon roll? Well, every time you see your friend engaging animatedly with people on her social media account while ignoring your texts is building a reaction furrow in your head: resentment. If you have the same reaction each time, it will only get deeper, and your response will become automatic.
You have a choice: to change the brain by changing your reaction, to let things continue as they are and get angrier and more resentful, or to ignore it. To change your reaction would mean instantly countering your feelings with different ones (“why is she ignoring me and talking to THEM?” > “I’m so glad she has friends!”). Letting things continue as they are is going to lead to an eventual blow-up between you or smoldering feelings that hurt what remain of the friendship. Ignoring it would mean deleting the ability to read her posts (so you don’t know what’s going on with her and other people) and putting her on Ignore while you focus on living well. But you do need to do something, decide what you want, and where you will stand, and how she will treat you. Whether you talk to her directly and ask if she wants to stay friends or is done or walk away is up to you.
Sometimes people grow apart and sometimes they leave you, and sometimes you need to respect yourself enough to not allow others to ghost you or punish you for having your own opinions. If someone winds up causing your more frustration and anger than happiness, the relationship isn’t a good one. So think about it, and decide based on what you think is right for both of you.

The blessing in evil: harsh aspects
I decided to make this post, since I get a lot of messages of people being frustrated in some way or another with their challenging aspects. Astrology is neutral at its core and will forever consist of the positive and the genative, both live together in unison and always will. I think it goes without saying, that difficult aspects have (of course) their positive sides to them, and can be just as much of a blessing as naturally positive aspects: but how to deal with them and how to look at the challenge harsh aspects provide?
I decided to list the aspects I get asked about the most, as well as a few of my own selection that I’ve have seen people in real life struggle with a lot. Keep in mind, that the specific interpretation of the aspects can differ depending on the planets, signs and houses involved. This is a general post about them, but I’ll try to go as much as in depth as possible. Some of those aspects listed are still debatable in their interpretation, it seems to me.
The Opposition
This aspect has an orb allowance from approximately 10°, it is formed by two planets that are seperated by ca. 180°. The Opposition is self explaining, somehow. It’s the other side of the coin, two siblings starring at each other, so similar, yet unbelievably different and none tries to give in to the other. The cold sholder they think another rightfully deserves. Imagine it as two quirling siblings, that stand in front of their parent (you), explaining and justifying why they are in the right. You on the other hand have to find a middle ground and make your children understand that both of them are right and both of them are wrong. While every aspect is somehow in a way about balance and power dynamics as well as structures, this one is especially about balance and a dynamic balance only. Oppositions force you into extremes easily. One time you handle exactly like one energy, neglecting the other, then you go after the other energy, leaving the first energy out in order to satisfy both needs. This can ultimately lead to stagnation, being irritated to the point that you can go after any energy, identifying with both and yet with none. Key message behind the Opposition: Balance is dynamic, an never ending ungoing process, a status we have to create and that won’t last forever, once we realized our problem or thought about a solution. Both energies are right and need each other in order to find harmony, they ultimately have been born somehow on common ground, it’s a beautiful symbiosis, that lets you unravel and discover lifes lesson of regenerating the self, self healing and how to connect two dots to create the full picture (imagine it like coloring by numbers!). The Opposition is often about getting to know what one wants and needs, it’s undeniably equally important for one to figure it out in order to fully focus on ones destiny or at least to fully visualize all the opportunities and chances in ones life path. More than often, the Opposition takes time to figure out even when the answer seems to be clear and obvious - don’t pressure yourself, take your time and be kind.
The Square
The Square is an aspect that is created by a difference of 90° with an orb allowance of 7.5 degrees. The Square is different compared to the Opposition, here the energies seem to not even bloom from the same family or at least have little similarities. Now, the square is usually two different ideologies clashing, they create a melting pot of frustration and even agression, where the Square sits the native will find themself unconsciously falling back into difficult behavior, thoughts and situations. The square is about questioning what energy is rightfully here, demanding to be pleased and lived out and which is wrong. Of course, none of them is wrong, but really, the native might ask themself: how can they ever work together? Extreme neglect and totalities might be a consequence, wanting the problem to ‘vanish’ already, pleading for growth. It’s really about appreciating the total differences and using them for the best. The individual might feel like they can’t fully chose one ‘option’, but this constant ‘figuring out’ how to channel their energies and when to rely to them, as well as to accept them as strong and reliable forces, keeps the individual active and on the go. They are forced to be quick and clever in a way, to explore people and the self, to assert the self and to overcome an inner blockage. This blockage makes you either disarm yourself - unable to move on and to let yourself be washed away by the rough and wild sea - or you become the boat that wisely reads the sky and water and moves forward without sinking and so is able to see the wild unknown places that the world has to offer. Key message behind the Square: Master of the forces that seem to hold you in a tight grip, seeing the benefit in even the worst and constantly developing the self and setting an example as the master of self understanding and development.
The Inconjunction or Quincunx
The Inconjunction is an aspect of 150° and has an orb allowance of 2 degrees. This aspect feels unable to ‘balance out’ or to find common grounds, since modality and element are both not compatible. More often the Inconjunction can lead to acceptance. We don’t need to force desires and wishes together only for the sake of apparent constant harmony. Both these energies have their own area, both need to live their energies out and have the right to do so. In a negative way, an individual might develop an unhealthy behaviorism in order to satisfy both needs. When being true and honest with the self, the native will think about neutral/benefitting/healthy ways of secluding both areas of the planets energies and needs in their life. Key message behind the Inconjunction: Acceptance first, be honest with yourself and let go of the constant need to create a harmony that can not be reached. Be greatful for the differences and allow yourself find ways to enjoy both with a good will, heart and gratitude. Adjustment will come naturally then.
The Semi-Square
It is an aspect of 45° with an orb allowance of ca. 2 degrees. The Semi-Square is a harsh aspect that manifests as an emotional/inner blockage and inner pain that will manifest subconsciously as outer problems that reoccur, similar in its outcomes and how they happen. The Semi-Square can easily lead to losing the self, losing faith in the self or self-pity but whilst the native struggles with inner blockage and adjusting, the external events will put them in the position to actively take action: one can not not ignore the problem inside the self when it’s presented right in front of them, however if you choose to keep on hanging on to your frustration and desires, if you keep on pushing it aside, wanting to deal with it later or purely neglecting lifes offers for growth one might find themself left behind at times. Another problem might be a lack of discipline, holding on to old, bad behavior or attitude. Key message behind the Semi-Square: Don’t ignore your inner pain, even if it seems small at first. Be open and observant and willing to deal with problems. It’s normal that adjustment will take time, don’t decide where’s the limit when it comes to growth. Be open and content about changes to expand your mind, challenges by life that test you. Be persitant.
The Sesquiquadrate
The aspect in a degree of 135 with an orb allowance of 2-3. This is about holding the self accountable for our actions and problems,  to not ignore them. It’s about inner control and to accept aid. The energies of the Sesquiquadrate are subtle, sometimes not noticed by the native. Usually it’s when we want to break free of negativity/a problem but know for a better that we are bound to something holding us back, hence losing our courage. It offers creativity, since this aspect is usually easier mastered by strong positive aspects in the natal chart, that strengthen your decisions and actions. If this challenging aspect is noticed, the feelings of being unable to do anything leads easily to ignoring the problem. Now, this is the point, that’ll potentially make it bigger emotional baggage than it has been before. There is a desire to act and it involves the self, to combine to sides inside of you, to stimulate two sides that have strong expectations. To break boundaries by combining them. Key message behind the Sesquiquadrate: Reflect on the self and acknowledge your flaws and problems. Be active about them, don’t pile emotional baggage up. Be open for guidance and be open to think constructively. Seek out outer guidance/help/opinions, it’s not a shame, at best they will only heighten your intuiton. Embrace oppositions.

2FA for your Own Minecraft Server

As some of you guys may have noticed on Twitter this past week or so, there were a couple different hashtags trending for short bursts of time like SaveSmash, FreeMelee, among others. I'd like to take the time to help give those out of the loop some context because there has been lots of misinformation going around.
First, if I get any facts mistaken let me know and I’ll be happy to correct it.
On 19 November 2020, Smash Bros tournament series, The Big House announced on Twitter that they have received a cease and desist from Nintendo of America (NOA) “primarily due to the usage of Slippi” and will cancel both the Super Smash Bros Melee and Super Smash Bros Ultimate online events. The Big House series has been hosting Smash tournaments for almost 10 years, and the more recent installments were even partnered with Nintendo.
Earlier this year, 22 June 2020, Project Slippi releases a version of Dolphin (a Nintendo Gamecube emulator) that includes features new to Melee like rollback netcode, integrated matchmaking, replay files, complex game statistics, and more. Rollback netcode is easily the most important addition, giving players an online experience that’s significantly better than what most modern fighting games provide. It’s especially valuable in a time where the world is fighting an ongoing pandemic and gathering dozens of players to compete in-person poses a major health risk. I could gush over how incredible Fizzi36 and the rest of the Project Slippi developers are for being able to incorporate rollback netcode into Melee, but that’s not the point of this post. Just need to know that the game’s ISO file and its contents do not need to be modified in any way in order for Slippi to do what it does.
Now, despite their claims, NOA is lying. As the copyright holder, Nintendo indeed has the legal right to shut down events, streams, and media that include any of their intellectual property. Most game companies don’t assert this right because, unlike Nintendo, they know it’s not a very good idea. However, based on The Big House’s initial statement and NOA’s follow up statement to Polygon on the C&D, the tournament was shut down for other reasons: game emulation/modification and piracy. First let me say that I’m not a lawyer and would rather have someone better suited explain; but from my understanding, Slippi would not be considered illegal modification of Melee, the game, since everything is done with Dolphin, the emulator, instead. And while it is possible that numerous Melee players may be competing on illegally obtained copies of the game and don’t own their own physical copy, the responsibility falls on Nintendo to prove it.
Some suggest The Big House takes this to court, but with how big Nintendo is, many agree that the amount of time and money needed to settle the case would be too high of a price for anybody in the community to pay. So is fighting for The Big House’s online tournament a lost cause? For this event in particular, most likely yes. It’s been over a week since the C&D was issued and despite the public backlash, NOA has yet to retract its decision. However, the Melee community is already making moves in response, and for the average person, all we can do is spread awareness and see what happens next.
News of The Big House shutting down had spread far and wide, trending on Twitter for some time, reaching influencers like moistcr1tikal, LudwigAhgren, and Mutahar(SomeOrdinaryGamers), several news outlets like Kotaku have covered the story, and gained support from various other competitive gaming communities including ones that play the games that Nintendo actually supports like Splatoon and ARMS.
Few days later on 23 November 2020, an anonymous Twitter account posts a Twitlonger that contains a list of claims exposing how Nintendo has actively gone out of its way to prevent the growth of the competitive Smash scene for many years as far back as 2006. Nintendo’s actions have not only have been a detriment toward the Melee community, but all the newer Smash games and beloved fan-game Project M, as well. Many figures in the Smash community agree that most or even all the statements made in that document are legit, and I highly recommend reading it for yourself and forming your own opinion.
I won’t go over everything covered in the Twitlonger, but in the past Nintendo famously tried to shut down the Melee tournament back at EVO 2013. Melee earned its spot at the event after raising almost $100,000 for breast cancer research. After a day of constant public backlack after the story reached the top of Reddit, Nintendo stepped down from their decision, and after that came one of the most memorable and impactful Smash events in history.
The information brought public by that first Twitlonger caused others came forward with their own claims against Nintendo, exposing their actions against these communities happening behind the scenes. These statements come from members of the ARMS, Project M, and Splatoon communities. (If I come across more, I’ll try to add them here.)
These developments, soon after The Big House’s C&D, made a lot of people upset towards Nintendo. While there are several ways to go about informing others and expressing your frustration with the situation, demanding fans of Nintendo to boycott their products will not help. Doing so would probably just make less informed people not want to support the Smash scene at all.
All this noise has made many people question what the Melee scene was after. Would a rerelease on modern hardware be the solution? No, if anything, it can give Nintendo more leverage to continue this abusive relationship with the competitive community. The Melee rerelease would also likely be the PAL (European/Australian) version of the game, but the community as a whole has already abandoned it in favor of NTSC (Japanese/American). Do Melee players want Nintendo to put up their own money and sponsor competitive events? In the past, yes, but after many, many years of no shown support thus far that is no longer the case. With how malicious Nintendo has been towards the Smash community over the years, many just want the company to turn a blind eye and leave Melee alone at this point.
Mentioned earlier, the Melee community has already taken action in response to the C&D. The general plan as of now is to respectfully spread awareness and continue announcing online tournaments. In December, Ludwig is hosting a big online Melee tournament using Slippi where the winner decides which charity organization will receive the prize money of tens of thousands of dollars. Fizzi released an updated version of Slippi with a spectator mode that enables smaller, independent tournament organizers to run online competitions without needing to rely on streaming, Discord’s screen share feature, or other methods of broadcasting gameplay. Many content creators and players are also taking the time to express how much Melee means to them and how the competitive Smash scene has positively influenced their lives.
Somehow, despite everything exposed up until now, people still actively defend Nintendo as if they did nothing wrong at all and tend to base their arguments on flawed logic and/or incorrect information (you’ll see a lot of it on the Nintendo subreddit). For the remainder of this post, I’ll try to break down a few common misconceptions and explain why Nintendo should not be defended by anyone that isn’t getting paid by them.
Thank you for reading.
________________
“The competitive Melee scene hurts Nintendo’s bottom line.”
Super Smash Bros Melee has been out of production for many years now, and Nintendo has yet to release it on modern consoles.
The competitive Smash community has historically been supportive of Nintendo’s current products at the time.
Assumes the existence of competitive Melee takes opportunities away from other Nintendo games’ existing communities, when in reality it was Nintendo’s own poor community management.
Assumes that competitive scenes negatively affects Nintendo’s brand and is unwelcoming to casual players and newcomers when companies like Blizzard and Valve pump millions into their competitive scenes knowing how profitable they are.
“Nintendo doesn’t want to support events for a scene full of abusive community members.”
Claims like these are ESPECIALLY BAD because it disrespects those who have been victimized by members of their community.
Implies that exposing and ejecting abusive people from the community, and attempting to create a safer environment is bad for the scene.
Assumes people in other communities aren’t capable of doing the same horrible things.
Long before all the allegations came out, Nintendo had already invited several of these community figures to events in order to promote their games.
“Just play the new game lmao Melee players don’t know how to move on”
Has been said for ages, and clearly those saying so don’t get it.
This is literally what Nintendo wants.
“Melee players have always been after the money.”
THERE’S HARDLY ANY MONEY TO BE WON IN THE FIRST PLACE. NO THANKS TO NINTENDO.
If playing video games for money was all Melee players want, they would not be competing in a game this difficult to be good at where tournament winnings can’t reliably pay the bills.
The majority of competitive Melee players are only in it for the passion, and being able to make a living through competing in a game they love is the dream.
“Competitive players take the fun out of games! Why should I support them?”
Unless you can’t read, or are some corporate bootlicker with no sense of empathy, I see no reason not to be supportive.
This whole situation is about a dedicated community that has existed for almost 20 years trying to play their favorite game with each other online in the midst of a pandemic, and for no good reason a big company will not let them.
“Supporting Melee and/or boycotting Nintendo means I have to give up my favorite games!”
No, buy and play what you want, how you want.
Do know that Nintendo is a big company with no intent on being your friend. Stop putting them up on a pedestal.
Boycotting Nintendo won’t do anything anyway; they’re too big, and the FreeMelee movement isn’t far-reaching enough to cause any significant harm to Nintendo’s profits.
"ACTUALLY, Nintendo is within their right to shut down events. They are allowed to kill Melee if they want.”
Yes, and Nintendo is within their right to suck my nuts.
Just because it’s legal doesn’t necessarily make it the right thing to do.

Standards
The standard I hold myself to are of loyalty and responsibility.  Ever since I can remember, my parents have always preached to “take responsibility for your personal actions, good or bad”.  I attended middle school at Philippa Schuyler, School for the Gifted & Talented in Brooklyn, NY.  The motto of the school was “To whom much is given, much is required”.  That motto has carried a lot of weight throughout my life.  The motto has had deeper meaning over the years, but the tenets are still the same.  Being faithful to the past, not forgetting where you came from, using the tools that are given to you wisely, and finally, mentoring the next generation behind you to be that much better and learning from mistakes and miscues made.
In present day, I see the standard of responsibility being so fickle in the minds of others.  Every news channel, or social media blog post, are people blaming others for their misfortunes and shirking their ownership of misdeeds onto others.  Its rather repulsive, and strengthens my resolve of being better, and raising my children to take responsibility seriously.  Over the years, working as a police officer & detective, I would constantly engage people who were guilty of an offense, and go through the exact same cycle every time.  It would be one of anger/frustration, then denial, and finally acceptance followed by an apology.  I would empathize with them and point out the fact they could have skipped 90% of the diatribe and just admit their faults.  Most of the time, I could even work it out on scene with them, and not even have to place handcuffs on them.
The standard of loyalty is also embedded in my personality and value system.  I believe in it so deeply, that I have the phrase “Loyalty Above All Else” tattooed on the inside of my left triceps.  During my undergrad years at Norwich University-Military College of Vermont, this trait was ingrained in every single cadet.  Loyalty to the Corps, and loyalty to one another.  I can also cite being loyal to my fellow officers, even mimicking the infamous “blue wall of silence”.  While the actual “blue wall” is quite the fallacy, I believed in the trait of loyalty to one another, as long as it didn’t result in something criminal.  This level of loyalty, while sounds noble, and has won me solid friendships lasting a lifetime, it hasn’t all been positive.  The problem with being loyal to a person, or organization, is that you won’t know their motivations; and you tend to expect a “you” from “them”.  It has bitten me in the rear a few times, and was an essential lesson learned in how to manage workplace relations.
After reading the assigned chapters in the course text from the Miniature Guide to Critical Thinking, that you can be responsible, and loyal, but should factor in implications & consequences, assumptions and point of view (Paul, et al. 2020).  I can see how the standards being defined further with the use of elements can make for more thought-out decisions, that won’t have such dire consequences, or negative career results.  When you use the critical thinking process, you get to see your past faults, and why they were negative, which in turn holds you accountable for actions.  While “looking in the mirror” may be difficult, it is absolutely necessary for growth, and to not make irrational or non-researched decisions.
