Blurb Chapters

So if anyone actually read the post about the three different ideas, I’m going to write blurbs on them, let’s say, the “first paragraph” to each of the blurbs. They’re going to be around 1.5k words for anyone who doesn’t like reading much. For a couple of days, depending on how many followers and such there are I may as well just make an entire AU out of it. So I’ll give each blurb a week. After a week I will list down the likes a post has and post the second blurb, then the cycle repeats. You can like all three if you want, I don’t really care, I do appreciate it though ^^ To be honest, I’m doing this for fun and I won’t have much time to do this probably when school starts again so it’s really for quick reads.

Without further ado, here is Blurb #1, the Zodiac AU

Yashiro Nene, a fifteen year old girl who had to move schools. Technically, it’s a transfer. Because her grandparents passed, Nene was more or less forced to move away from their house and back to that big and empty mansion her parents owned. It wasn’t that her parents didn’t love her, they were just never home. Nene loves her parents, but their work was always abroad.

Nene looked at the flyer of her school in her hands. She was enrolling as a first year high school student in Kamome Academy. Turns out the school has its own middle school division which sort of sucks. Cliques and friends would already exist and making any friends would be near impossible.

Nene groaned, her life is going to be so terrible. Her hair draped over her head. Nene then realized how long her bangs were. After her grandparents’ death, Nene was immediately moved to the Yashiro estate. With the sudden change, she couldn’t cope well with the news and differences. She also didn’t know where the nearest barber was at. Nene also didn’t want to walk out with this type of hairstyle.

Puffing out her cheeks, Nene quickly walked over to the bathroom. She held scissors in her right hand and she carefully pulled her bangs down. She had to just it just right.

Snip.

Too long.

Snip.

Not straight.

Snip.

Still long…

Snip.

Still crooked…

Snip.

Snip snip snip snip snip snip snipsnipsnipsnipsnispnipsnipsnipsnipsnip.

“…”

Nene stared bleakly at the mirror and her new hairdo. Her eyes watered up and she dropped the scissors where the small pieces of hair were at. She covered her mouth.

“Nooooooooo~!”

Nene screamed as she stared at the mirror in shock. Her beautiful bangs! The beautiful hair!

“The bangs were supposed to be pretty for my prince!!!”

Nene screamed to herself. She sighed dejectedly as she swept up the hair into a plastic bag. She sighed as she placed the scissors away. She sighed as she walked outside to the trashcan to drop the bag of hair in it. She sighed when she stared at herself at a mirror once more, trying to regain her senses.

“My prince will never like me now,” Nene muttered. Nene was sitting on a chair near her desk with the mirror. She glanced at her feet and frowned, “Not with these legs,” she picked up the small bits of her crooked bangs, “nor these uncool bangs.”

Nene groaned as she covered her face in shame. Perfect, not to mention she had to go to school tomorrow. There wasn’t any magical serum that would help her grow her bangs back.

Nene peeked from under her fingers at the mirror and slowly slid her hands off of where her bangs were. She could hope it was a dream. It was a dream! It was a-!

“Nooo~pe,” Nene slammed her head on the table.

It was still hideous.

…

Nene stared awkwardly at her hands. The school was unfathomably awkward. No one would talk to her, no one would look at her, and no one acted as if she existed. She buried her face into her hands; she wished she was back with her grandparents and with her old friends at her old school.

“Hello~!”

Nene snapped her head up to see the prettiest girl in the class. She caught the other students glancing at her and the other girl from their groups. Great.

“Umm,” okay Nene, this is your chance to look awesome! “H-Hi.”

Dang it! Nene screamed internally, I messed up!!!

That induced a soft giggle from the other girl.

“I’m Aoi Akane,” Aoi introduced herself, “You can call me Aoi-chan if you want to! You’re the transfer student, right, Nene-chan? Let’s be friends!”

Nene could only smile nervously at the pretty, but intense girl. She was already enforcing the rule that Nene would talk to her on a first name basis. Not only that, she decided to skip the part where she would have to ask Nene permission to use her first name.

BUT THAT DIDN’T MATTER!

Nene wept tears of joy internally. This beautiful girl, who probably never gets refused on dates, asked if she could be friends with Nene! The girl was a literal angel flying from above sprinkling second chances and friendship to end the loneliness in Nene’s soul! She was a savior! A beauty!

“Okay, Aoi-chan,” Nene complied to the request. “What do you want to talk about?”

“Hmm,” Aoi tapped her chin as she pulled the nearest chair to Nene’s desk. She sat down and smiled. “What about hobbies?”

“Hobbies?” Nene thought back to all of her failed endeavors, “Umm, well I guess I cook, clean, take care of my hamster and umm… do yardwork…?”

“Do you like planting?” Aoi quickly picked a conversation starter.

“Yeah, I do,” Nene admitted. It was something she started for a middle school crush. Nothing happened, but she did end up with a pretty good life skill, so she continued to plant and harvest vegetables. She even started her own garden back at the estate.

“Would you like to join start a club about with me?” Aoi asked with her eyes alight. “I always wanted to make a club and I think a gardening club is just perfect! What do you think, Nene-chan?”

“I think,” Nene sniffled internally; I think you are too pure and good for the world Aoi-chan! “I think that’s a great idea! I’ll certainly help you!”

“Oh good!” Aoi clapped her hands, “You can be the President and I can be your vice president!”

“Eh?” Nene blinked in shock, “Don’t you want to be President Aoi-chan?”

“Oh no,” Aoi giggled, “I want to make a club, but I don’t exactly want to lead it. Let’s just settle with me being the vice president!”

“Can we make a club with only two people?”

“Yup~!” Aoi answered Nene’s question with a large grin, “I have a friend who is in the student council. I’m sure he’ll help us.”

“Oh, okay,” Nene smiled.

So school ended with Nene making a new friend; someone who didn’t comment on her abnormally swollen legs or make fun of her behavior. She released a breath of relief as she stepped outside the school campus.

…

Only to be tackled down.

“Ah!!!”

Nene screeched as she fell onto the concrete. Luckily she only bruised the edge of her palm. Suddenly she was pushed down and she felt someone get on top of her.

“You…”

A creepy voice spoke behind her. It was obviously a male, probably a young boy.

“You spent the entire day with Aochan,” the voice growled.

Nene couldn’t look back to see behind her. She was terrified to say the least of her situation.

“How could you take up so much of her time?! You greedy creep!” Nene was frozen in terror, but it subsided when she noticed that the speaking perpetrator was crying. There were tears staining the concrete. “How could you take away Aochan from me? Am I not good enough?”

Nene suddenly felt less intimidated and more pitiful. The poor stalker… He was a creep, but she wasn’t going to tell him out right.

“Err, umm…” Nene coughed. “I’m only friends with Aochan, she’s really pretty, but she’s not my type… so…”

“Really?” The boy sniffled. Nene furiously nodded. The boy finally released her and forced her to look the other way. “Okay… I’ll trust you Yashiro-san. Please, don’t disappoint me.”

Nene walked straight ahead without turning her head. She had no need to, the boy was sniffling and that murderous aura has dissipated. Also, although Nene had no need to, she ran as fast as she could back home. She did not want to get caught again.

Her mind was getting dizzy. Why was Aoi so popular?!

Nene continued to run to the mansion.

“Off!”

“Wah!”

Nene bumped into a boy. Her eyes went round as did the Amber eyes of the boy’s eyes.

With her arms stretched out, she fell on him.

Then there was a lot of dust and she coughed. In her horror, where the boy was a few seconds ago, there was a black cat in his place, the clothes the boy was wearing draped over him.

”...”

“...”

“Meow?”

Of course…

Nene screamed.

Mahou Shoujo Ore 5

Hey hey hey, this is the second show I’ve seen ape Osomatsu-san this year. Seriously, no show is safe in a parody as a target for humour’s sake…Note Osomatsu-san is also by Pierrot, though, so they’re attacking themselves to some extent.

Now that they’ve pointed the Osomatsu-san reference though, I can’t believe I didn’t see the scarf colours last time! But…this is episode 5…

Oh, I kind of noticed it, but I’m probably too used to it since I watched the first season of Osomatsu-san – the blue lines are part of that show’s signature style.

Muscovado is apparently a substitute for sugar. It literally translates to “black sugar” though…

Sagami is…a former place in Japan…?

Tama River. I’m terrible at Japanese geography, so I don’t think you should be asking me about this…

Dang, apparently Pierrot is based in Mitaka, Tokyo so whatever joke I was chasing there fell flat.

Wow, they got really self-referential this episode…yikes.

So this is the rumoured Chiba-san? Uhh…

Oh my…I do not see the word “Japanimation” get much mileage at all these days, but I cringe every time I see it.

It’s Pokémon Go! Wow, that’s another level of meta for sure. My hopes for resolving all the stray plot threads while maintaining that wacky sense of humour (or however I phrased it) definitely went out the window…Notice the footage is dated April 24th 20X8, which is about a week before the episode went to air if the X actually hides “2018”.

Suginami. Apparently, Bones, Sunrise and other studios are stationed there…but Pierrot isn’t.

If there’s one thing I didn’t expect in MSO, it’s the fact this show became Shirobako in a sense. I still need to get around to Shirobako, by the way…

Ey, wait a second! Astral, you got your wish! We get to see…Fujimoto’s face!

Whoa! They went all out on the CGI fire effects! What is this show, Golden Kamuy?! (LOL)

Comichiya’s probably Comiket. The katakana (chi -> tsu, to -> ya) look kinda similar if mangled.

Dangit! I missed my mark on the guesswork again! Tokyo Big Sight isn’t in Suginami.

Basically, this is just a long road to admitting they couldn’t do a recap episode, but they don’t have enough content to pad this ep either. Ah, sweet revelations (sarcastic).

Is it just me, or does the bottom of Fujimoto (1)’s face look kind of like…Mohiro??? Wagh??? Update: No, the hair colour’s off.

The “on the train” technically says “on the NEXT train” (emphasis mine).

Wow, they namedropped Ishikawa (probably Kaito)! Ishikawa voices male!Saki, so it makes sense.

Oh my gosh, Mahoutsukai Watashi! What a bold move this show’s taken – it’s telling its own meta-narrative. Which means when I cover it for the collab post…it’ll be meta of meta…that’ll put my head in a spin for sure.

You can see Fujimoto and Sakuyo character designs if you pause for one scene (the one with “staff working from home”).

You can see the name Masayuki Ito (伊藤雅之) on that list with the downward arrows, but I don’t know what significance that name has unless they’re an animator or something...

Mensore is explained here.Basically it’s youkoso in Okinawan.

Jimami Tofu…isn’t tofu, as weird as that sounds. It’s an Okinawan-sponsored drama.

Well, at least this time I got a big epic battle (no matter how short it is). Nothing better than that!

They got Akira Ishida, Tomokazu Seki, Koichi Yamadera and some other guys to voice the Fujimotos this time. Notice there’s no crossover between the Osomatsu-san voices and the Fujimotos, which was probably intentional.

I thought there’d be a real Shinzo Chiba, but there doesn’t seem to be one…

There was a shot of Fujimoto (before the manager)! Wah! Was that there in previous episodes???

Every time people promise wardrobe malfunctions, they tend to…uh, deliver on that…

The Monokubo illustration this time is creepy…I like it!

Yotsuiro Biyori 4

Is this a zombie movie (LOL)?

Wow, Sui really loves cats, doesn’t…he…? (LOL)

Oh, so that weird zombie movie in medias res opening was actually one of those fakeouts…DN Angel’s anime did that, I remember…

Wow, they make Tokitaka so epic in this scene! A determined man is more handsome than one in an ordinary state, don’tcha think?

You can even see rice flying! Amazing! Tokitaka’s got such skill.

I am so spoilt for smol boys this season, between this and Boueibu HK…

Ooh! My eyes have been blessed with the hotness of Tokitaka!

There��s more chicken than usual this ep, eh?

Shiratama anmitsu.

I never thought we’d need a backstory for the resident cat, but okay. It was hilarious and fun while it lasted and now it’s almost over…huh.

Denzou? Eh? (I kinda get why the name’s badass with the kanji involved, but it’s hard to explain to a non-Japanese speaker…)

Agedama.

The next ep title translates to roughly “A Loving Hand for the Lost Lamb”…as in, to extend a hand to it.

Lupin 3 Pt 5 5

Okay, part 5 episode 5 is confusing when it’s just “5 5”, isn’t it?

I think the guy in the green jacket will be important later…? He’s in a key visual for this show, at least.

“This pasta called soba’s pretty good!” – LOL, soba ain’t pasta, y’know…

I’ve learnt about the stack before. Here you go.

IP camera. Hey, I’ve done something on IP cameras before, but normally Detective Conan (and most other mystery shows of the modern day) seem to be reliant on CCTV…

Chicken game…? Sounds tasty!...Not.

Ami doesn’t seem too pleased about all the shooting, LOL.

Even Ami knows bowing is a sign of Japanese respect. Just like how dragons understand the meaning of “Hatori Chise” involves birds…(i.e. I’m kind of skeptical that a real French girl would learn to bow to her Japanese friends when her life is always on the line, a la Ami.)

Episode…1? Y’mean, there’s more adventures, but no Ami? Aw, I was enjoying having her in the fray.

A TV? $30??? Wow, I would fight a psychic girl for that! That’s friggin’ cheap!

“A teacher and a student walk into a bar…” – it sounds like a joke. Not that that could be conveyed accurately in Japanese, though. The fact it even works as an English joke must be a coincidence…

Nitta’s just like “I’ve given up on this girl”. Either that, or he has a hangover…(LOL)

Sayo looks kind of like Hina. If it weren’t for the hair colours I would’ve mistaken the two.

LOL, the bald bodyguard…he looks kinda grumpy.

Notice Kyotaro goes “ore kyoumi nai” (I have no interest in it), but the subs missed the subject of the sentence! CR, you weirdoes!

Ryoma’s the end of the evolutionary line!

Hmm…if there was no Ice Age in Honyara Land…might there have been something else that caused the Furanui/Karurusu conflict? There’s only animosity from one side, after all.

Bunbuku Chagama. Magozaemon was fat, so he would make a perfect teapot/tanuki…

Wait, if Maasa = Ichiro in the age department (roughly 16), that would add up. He went abroad for 4 years and held off on carbs the entire time…yikes.

Asobukoto = It’s not really “fun” per se, but “playing” or “hanging out”. That is, if you translate rather literally.

They’re all underage (roughly 16 – 18), of course they wouldn’t drink! Of course, this is coming from a person who doesn’t drink…the only samples of alcohol I’ve had are few and far in between…

Taishi only seems vaguely fazed about the fact he’s being made to fight monsters. Interesting. I never think about the perspective of the non-red boys regarding fighting monsters until they’re pointed out, really.

Hey hey, I found a page on tonkotsu ramens (sic from the Hakata anime) and paitan ramen.

Kyotaro on stairs = basically my mood when I want to imitate the “draw me like one of yor French girls” meme. (Very badly.)

So…when I said I missed individualised attacks, I never saw this coming. Sorry about that, people. (Even if that was only Ichiro’s bubble attack.)

Kyotaro makes a lot of sense here. But seriously, I think I need Astral’s easy button right now. That was easy.

Both Maasa and Dougo have such supportive friends, it almost makes me jealous.

I, for one, am happy they’re tackling relationships aside from “brothers” this time. Finally, here’s something that stacks up against its competition in regards to deeper themes, even if it is a comedy!

Dougo and Maasa (Magozaemon) were in class 2, if you pause at the right time. Notably, the members of class 2 were all boys, LOL. Even with the boy to the left of Magozaemon, I think that name might be pronounced “Ai” (due to this page), but it’s in manly kanji.

In a Silent Way – Do you enjoy complete silence? yes!! besides some music, i cant concentrate otherwise

Soft & Wet – Shower or bath? shower bc its easier but i havent taken a bath in forever

Welp, it’s a war plot, which normally fares badly with me, but it looks like female anime James Bond, which normally goes down well with me because I loved the Alex Rider and Young Bond series growing up.

Oh gosh, lil bun girl’s voice is whiny and my ep keeps freezing for some reason that isn’t buffering but otherwise I’m impressed. It’s solid in most ways, and the music is perfect for it! It might be just the thing I need to brighten up my season alongside Katsugeki.

Amy Anderson is an English name so I don’t take much issue with it, but it just sounds a lil’ cliché.

There’s CGI in this, but it’s hard to spot because it’s disguised so well.

You can see she’s wearing an American flag headband in this segment, so I’d say stars or plain pink (like you can see sometimes, like in the ED). Wha-huh? Why does Gakuto know that??? Oh no. Does that mean it was a fanservice question, about Fukami’s panties??? Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*panting and trying to recover from the previous realisation* This show’s boilerplate. It’s got good things to offer, but it also has…*shudders* fanservice. Persistent fanservice. Depending on how bad the new entries this week are (the entries in question are Mahoujin Guru Guru, Classroom of the Elite and Gamers), there may be a chance for this to go on hold (because that’s what I do to shows I can’t be certain about).

ANN said this was alright, so I’m using it to determine whether I should stick on with some of my boilerplate shows (specifically Hina Logi, which doesn’t make me feel warm and fuzzy inside despite its attempts at schoolgirl SoL, 7O3X, which is fun to play with but has fanservice and Youkai Apato, which is overall lacking).

Holy anime, Batman! This thing’s 24 minutes! (I kinda knew that from ANN categorising it as such, but that still had an element of surprise when I saw it on CR.)

The cutesy artstyle doesn’t suit this show. It would be better doing a Gugure! or OPM thing with switching between two styles (chibi and detailed).

Uh, subbers? Why is “Boering” “Jimina”???...Oh, okay. Jimina can mean a lot of different things when in different contexts, but it would mean “boring” in this context, so they went with a deliberate typo on “boring”. I see.

It’s already making me laugh at the mention that this sign would make great firewood. I foresee great things from this show.

You can’t just ride on weird faces alone to carry your humour. I can see how this is funny, but I’m not laughing simply because I find the overreliance of funny faces to convey humour is a bit overused.

Suddenly, these guys go the DN Angel route with the training. Well, it’s better to start in medias res than to have to train from no power at all…

I think it works better with dramatic voice acting. Read the “the money covers that” quickly like the “spoken by” of an ad, then read the “all you get is cash!” with a voice that you use to tell scary stories…and you’re set.

Oh gosh. It’s fanservice, and right after I was complaining about it in 7O3X too…

Well, as a comedy it fares better than Hina Logi, but because it’s a high fantasy parody, it’s sucking at its own job. Sorry, but I’m going to put you on hold. I think I need to reevaluate you with the sound on. Sometimes, I felt like I should laugh, but didn’t because I genuinely couldn’t find a reason to, either, which is kinda rare for me when it comes to comedy. I can see why people like it though.

Classroom of the Elite 1

For some reason, this has glowing reviews, so…let’s see what the hype is about.

Okay, you’re quoting Nietzche. *side eyes* If there’s two things I know about Nietzche, it’s 1) he has some good quotes under his name and 2) he always comments on the state of humanity’s evil. I love to quote the “if you stare into the abyss…” thing, so at least you have my attention.

Classroom of the Elite…Episode…what? It’s a Classroom of the Elite episode. We know that already.

*Googles furiously* I knew it! “Heaven does not make one person above or below another” is a Fukuzawa quote (from An Encouragement of Learning, which I had to learn about from nkhrchy)! However, using two quotes in succession has less effect than just one.

I think it is in my country, you get fined ifyou get caught not giving up your seat to those who need it (including elderly people), so I see the girl’s viewpoint more.

Oh great. *sighs* I start to wonder where the show will go as soon as I see Seiji Kishi. All of the man’s works I’ve seen so far are hit or miss. Ranpo Kitan had a terrible plot but eyecatching visuals, while Tsukigakirei was plodding enough to make me yell at the screen a lot.

Was that a bear in a uniform? I wanna see a bear in a uniform the same way as Mechazawa (Cromartie)!

This brunette seems to be a future class rep. You can see it written all over his mannerisms and dialogue…which is exactly what protag thought too, it seems.

Ayanokouji is hard to read, but I can predict his thought process like we’re completely in sync (which I guess is meant to happen in a show like this). Horikita’s pretty expressionless too, meaning this comes off similar to Sagrada Reset – there’s potential, but the quality of the character writing is hard to determine.

I think Horikita suspects Kushida wants to hang off the dudes. Like something out of Legally Blonde.

Only a dude writer would make a girl mention her underwear so casually…*grumbles*

Since I read ANN prior to watching this ep, I knew the twist, but it was handled competently enough.

“Sapere aude” appeared during the ED. It means “dare to know”, and was first mentioned by Immanuel Kant. I learnt about it in politics, and heck, for a series that relies on lofty quotes like this, it does make sense to include it.

The words in the ED, if not Japanese, are German and Latin, along with a sentence or two of French and some English (because I spotted “…the root of evil”).

This style, that involves a lot of pink…I should’ve known is was Seiji Kishi and Lerche. It vaguely smacks of Ranpo Kitan!

I’m not sure what way this is going to go, but I can say I’m at least intrigued because there does seem to be some strong writing behind this. That means Hina Logi is going on hold.

Saiyuki Reload Blast 2

The gangster feel of this is great, y’know? The perfect way to kick back any day. (Unfortunately, if you want to know how I’m going on Gangsta, I still have it on hold…that was a lil’ subpar compared to what I wanted to cling to that season.)

Just out of interest… Well, here’s a better indication. That’s a pretty long road trip. However, the distance between Adelaide and Darwin (both Australian cities) is longer (3030.61 km or 1883.13 miles or 1636.4 nautical miles if measuring by driving distance on the same site as that second link), so…the Saiyuki guys have no right to complain.

“A salt lake…So a lake filled with salt water.” – You don’t say…I bet there’s a specialised term for that in Japanese, but still.

Float? Like the Dead Sea?

It’s funny how these guys use both magic and science. It’s something I’ve been trying to write ever since “The Future is Crimson”, because being able to combine both into a show smoothly indicates you’re a great writer (at least, in my opinion).

Like, enough with the camera blood splatter and “shooting through” the camera. Otherwise, I’m happy with this battle scene.

Seeing ancient China through a Japanese person’s eyes instead of through my parents’ Chinese version of jidaigeki-style live action dramas is…really something else. I think that’s one reason I’m so attached to this. (In case you’re wondering, yes. My parents watch a lot of old Chinese live action dramas. My dad especially is fond of things involving Mao Zedong or Deng Xiaoping if not those weird period dramas I just mentioned.)

They have credit cards in this period. That’s…hilarious! Then again, we’re talking about dudes with a dragon/jeep and a gun in what seems to be ancient China. Go, anime! (partially halfhearted) (shakes head knowingly*

The more the enemy lady (who appears to be Gyokumen) talks, the more I think of Queen Beryl from Sailor Moon and the more I get hit in the nostalgia. Ah, the 90s. Those were some good days of anime.

Gahhaha, the Sanzo party is full of debauchery, yet I can see why they’ve spawned so many anime seasons and specials.

“Looks like you did get here in the nick of time.”

The Sanzo party sound so unmotivated when they go, “Urasai”.

These extra things really ain’t funny, but…well, it’s almost like seeing an AU of these guys in the modern day. Including, and up to, watermelon smashing. An anime can’t go without at least one watermelon smashing scene if it’s got a beach episode...or it’s summer, which is just a big excuse to show a beach scenario anyway.

Update: After much thought, I regret to say that 7O3X and Youkai Apato are going on hold. The Reflection, which I intended to check out originally, will probably be out on the 29th while I still have Gamers! on tap next.
