i can fully understand the gripes with certain misogynistic tropes/writing issues that are present in the execution of some of cersei’s writing, but i will never understand the “she should have a redemption arc” or “she should be more likeable/less morally dark” perspective. that is not what her character is or has to be to make it great. wanting more female anti-heroes or “redemption arcs” with moral greyness and complexity of the level that asoiaf gives to primarily male characters is entirely understandable, but do some of you people even like cersei as a character, like at its core? like this is not about criticising the execution of certain things when it comes to this character, this is about taking issue with her as a villain fundamentally, which i just do not agree with at all

god when bloberta tells orel 'thats just his true nature coming out' its soooo. shes always seen that version of clay and has only known him when he is drunk and bitter and cruel. she can see directly through him and knows this front he puts on in front of others but esp orel. bloberta knows how desperately clay tries to cover up his own fuck ups not because he is ashamed but because he wants to remain that untainted vision orel has of him because he can finally be the man of the house to a child who always looks up to him. its why clay hates bloberta so much, she knows exactly who he is. bloberta knows clay is not kind in any way. and orel tells her that when he drinks he changes, and she gets to burst the bubble for him because she has been waiting for clays reckoning for so long: he was never the good man you thought he was. that man who you think he is is not your father. he only becomes the real clay puppington when he is drunk, everything else is a facade. you never knew your father at all. so when she leaves orels room she breaks down partly in sadness that this is what has come of her family and life, waiting to ruin clays image to her son, but also in relief that clay cannot win, and clay will never get back what he threw away. they both walk to their bedroom and lay unblinking in separate beds, a loser and a winner in a game neither of them want to play anymore, and they are both miserable. and orel lays awake knowing he finally met the true version of his father last night. and he shot him.
