So no shade to Discovery or Picard but the main reason I think I’m loving Strange New Worlds is because they seem to know that yes, Star Trek is about high minded discussions of ethics, philosophy and human nature (not to mention the Drama) but it is also about Shenanigans. Tomfoolery. The kind of hijinks you’d half expect to see out of a fan fic.

Shakespeare wouldn’t be Shakespeare without the dick jokes and Star Trek just isn’t Star Trek to me without the kind of vibe where, with a straight face, the plot involves body swapping, tribbles, weird Klingon bachelor parties, sex pollen, or saving the day with the power of rock music.

ok so it’s a tense scene in the enterprise sickbay.... idk maybe someone important got hurt like una or la’an it doesn’t really matter. m’benga is somewhere offscreen doing the surgery and captain pike is in the main sickbay area stressing out. maybe he looks really tired maybe he’s pacing relentlessly once again it doesn’t matter he’s just visibly freaked. chapel is also in sickbay doing some chores, maybe tending to the less injured people or just sorting through supplies or something like that. she’s also clearly anxious to hear the news but she has work to do and is trying to hide it.

maybe they make awkward conversation or just ignore each other for several excruciatingly long minutes. then, finally, the doors to the surgery room slide open and m’benga walks in quietly - they don’t notice him at first.

“chris?” he asks

both of them comically leap to their feet and gasp “yes?!”

Haven't had the chance to watch today's episode, but have they talked about why La'an and M'Benga did that swipe under the eye move in episode one? Or does anyone have any thoughts about it? I'm curious to see them interact more, but I pretty much feel that way about everyone, it was just an intriguing little exchange
