I took 3 melatonin last night and fell asleep reading McDanno and watching Magic Mike XXL and so as I was falling o was thinking about a recent gay romcom…it’s either called Bros or Bromance I think????

But anyway, Danny befriends a young hot gay guy who looks like the poster child of what Abrocombi and finch(I was never thin enough or rich enough to shop there so idk how to spell it) would look like but he’s a total sweet heart! And his gaydar is very spot on! Plus after a single day he knows this is a friendship that’s worth it. He helps Danny return to being true to himself. He’s known he’s not straight for a long time but after he married Rachel a lot of the less understanding people in his life thought he “finally chose a side” or “god it out of his system” and that took a toll for the whole time he was married. Dating after that was hard bc the divorce left him angry and bitter and he wanted to focus on being the dad Grace deserved.

And also the man he wanted he wasn’t sure he could get. Steve was everything he could hope for but nothing ever happened…No matter how much he made it obvious. And any time he wanted to be bold himself something happened. And he wasn’t immune to being human and wanting to fix Grace’s family for her sake but that’s really why he even looked at Rachel that kind of way when her marriage to Stan seem to weaken…

It’s an accumulated to having to be content with the strong family he’s built on the island bc of Steve…that’d have to be good enough.

That’s the story he tells the group of hot young gay guys as he’s dragged out to a gay club on one of his free nights. He also protects the group from both a creeper in the club and a homophobe in the streets.

In thanks they buy him drinks and listen to him go on and on and on about Steve.

Of course they begin to plot. But after Danny’s tired they all go back to his place and they put in Top Gun and make points of how gay the navy is (I’ve yet to watch either top gun movie but I’ve been lead believe it is v gay)

But anyway, in romcom fashion (and I’m not one for romcoms…The situations to make it work carry a lot of embarrassment and it gives me second hand embarrassment and I just can’t, but fic is different) Steve arrives at Danny’s…unannounced, with a key, to find Danny sleeping nestled between a lot of hot, young, ripped guys who are in different states of dress and are all very comfortable.

That’s all I got for now. I’ve been chasing inspiration all month and it’s been trying…so I’m glad of any ideas.

So, while skipping through episodes, I had to witness (again) that messy clusterfuck that is the entirety of 9x11.

Once scene struck me because I hadn't payed much attention the first time, I was too pissed off. When Harry concocted that absolutely nonsense thing about the fake marriage, all people in the room laughed and mocked and fake-complimented, and they were all saying stupid things because it was funny, to them.

Danny himself, at one point, says his usual Mazel Tov line, and they all laugh. See? Even Cath is mildly amused that she gets to be a fake wife because thank god she escaped the real thing (yeah, she would've said Yes to Steve's proposal, maybe...only to jump on the next black helo and disappear for months or years with radio silence because only her job, not a relationship, was giving meaning to her life). She expects Steve to laugh too:

The ride home was unbearable. None of them said anything to the other. Just a couple of hours earlier they were laughing and drinking with the team and now they weren’t speaking. All because he thought she was flirting with Danny’s brother, Matt. She wasn’t, by the way. They got home and that’s when it began. Lila was already expecting it but she was really hoping that they would just go to sleep and talk about it tomorrow. No such luck, apparently.

- “Oh, knock it off, Steve. He’s Danny’s brother. I was just being friendly. That’s it.”

- “Yeah, right. I saw the way he was looking at you. Checking you out. He definitely wanted more than to just be Danny’s brother to you.”

- “So what? That doesn’t mean he would get what he wanted. Or do you think I’m that type of person?”

- “I don’t know. Are you?” – That stung. Now she was the one beyond pissed.

- “You know what? Maybe I should have given him my number. That way you would be right in accusing me of flirting with him and so much more. I wonder if he’s good in bed? Maybe he’ll give me a good fucking.”

That was it. That was what sent him over the edge. He didn’t think about what he was doing; all he knew was that he was going to show her who was able to give her a good fucking.

He pushed her against the wall and kissed her. It was a kiss filled with anger, lust and jealousy. He was actually a bit surprised when she kissed him back. idea number one;

life as an air traffic controller is, well, not the most exciting. you work, talk to pilots, make sure everyone's safe while in the sky, chat with your co-workers, and you go home. you don't get a fancy uniform, you don't get famous, but you get a good paycheck. balancing shifts and seeing your daughter ... that's a little more difficult. just ask danny.

however, he makes it work, but between grace and his work, there's not much to brag about in his life. until there's a new pilot in the area. danny doesn't know much about him, other than the fact that his name's steve, and he has a sexy voice (don't question danny, he's basically living in celibacy). outside of the standard talk, they don't actually talk that much, though steve adds jokes and tidbits of information about himself, and it's a funny coincidence that he happens to only fly routes within the sector that danny works in?

well, danny finds himself googling this steve (mcgarrett, danny knew his surname, this is an official pilot that danny talks to on a regular basis we're talking about) and holy shit he's hot it's a shame he's restricted to the cockpit of a plane

bring on the dreams (they're pretty nsfw, don't worry, and they leave danny all hot and bothered because he wants the real thing), and he accidentally talks to grace about this pilot, which was a mistake because now she wants to meet the guy who makes her danno all excited, and shit he didn't think about that

luckily, there's a control center anniversary coming up, and danny knows some of the pilots are invited, and lucky him – there's steve, and holy shit he's even hotter in real life

and a little scene because i'm nice like that:

"i thought you'd be taller." steve chuckled, the fabric of his shirt tightening around his bicep as he lifted the beer to his lips, not once taking his eyes off danny as he sipped the cool beverage. "something about the confident tone in your voice, i suppose. not that i mind."

danny rolled his eyes, shoving his hands deep into the pockets of his slacks. "i thought you'd be hotter." he replied as nonchalantly as possible, though the smirk that spread on steve's lips told him he had failed.

the pilot, however, simply leaned closer, lips by danny's ear as he whispered. "we both know that's a lie."

onto idea number two;

(i might switch it all up and have steve be the one who's abducted when i get around to writing this, and have it be some sort of revenge mission against danny tbh)

day of death. danny is snatched as they work a case. the scene is chaotic, there's been a shoot out, and people are running everywhere, and danny was just there and the next second he's not.

and steve fucking loses it.

see, danny's strong and danny's just as good of a fighter as steve, he knows this, but it's danny, his fucking danny. the case takes them to jersey. or, takes steve to jersey, and he rallies together some of danny's old co-workers, and works the case like it was a black op. danny's former colleagues are ... terrified, to say the least, but they see that danny's definitely got someone to keep him on his toes in hawaii, and while they're terrified, they're a little jealous of this headstrong navy seal – he's working with danny after all.

danny's abductor is a dumbass, really, who has been idolising a serial killer, and thinks kidnapping and killing a cop is his one big chance at doing something great. spoiler alert: it's not. that aside, he's marked danny. knocking the feisty detective out cold with a concoction of drugs, this guy's taking a needle and ink, and he has tattooed danny's day of death onto him, permanently etched it into his skin.

in the end, the dumbass really did underestimate danny's power, but he also did underestimate the lengths steve would go to, and its a happy ending because i wouldn't allow either one of the boys to get hurt and die.

anyway, there's also a bit there (a little similar to chen and bradford in the rookie) where steve goes on to tell danny that that tattoo should be a reminder of what he went through, and that he's alive. (and then you know, maybe he proceeds on showing danny just how alive he is–)

scene scene scene scene:

detective foltyn was the complete opposite of what steve had expected, based on the very little danny had told him of his years with the police in jersey. yet, as he strode around the table and immediately took to scanning out the little info steve had scraped together at that point, it was clear he meant business.

"who's got our guy?" he questioned, turning to steve with an expression that was anything but pleasant; an expression he quickly schooled as the navy seal shot him a face of his own.

"i was hoping you could help clear that out." steve growled, dropping a folder to the table with a heavy thud. "my boy's more than capable of taking care of himself, but he needs our help. so either you help me figure this out, or you're not helping out at all."

officer russell, on the other hand, was the softer of the two, and he met steve's eye with the utmost respect, almost bowing his head to show he was happy with being the subordinate of their little team. "commander, if i know the detective – foltyn, that is – as well as i think i do, i know he will be nothing but helpful in the search of detective sergeant williams."

"very well then." steve huffed out a sharp breath of air through his nostrils, before pulling out his phone to call up his real team who were still in hawaii. "let's get to work then. we have no time to lose."

and then for the third idea;

danny's the best reporter this paper's got. there is just something about his analytical way of looking at journalism, and it has earned both him and the paper a whole lot of awards and titles. the thing is, they work in teams; a reporter and a photographer. always a team. when danny's other half hands in her resignation, and gets a new job, danny has to find himself a new partner.

enter steve, the quiet photographer who has seen more horror in the world than anyone can imagine. he's new in town, and is offered a top-paying job as a videographer at the local news station – but there's a blond reporter at the paper who catches his attention, and he turns down the top paying job to weasel his way into the paper instead.

he's immediately signed on to be danny's partner, because of course you match the top-quality reporter with the top-quality photographer. the chief editor worries, though, because he's got a loud, hard-headed reporter and he's got a quiet, hard-headed photographer – but they work magic together.

it seems the paper truly comes alive again, and it seems like steve comes alive again, at the same time as danny finds some of that peace he's always sought from his work.

and it's super cliché, but let's face it, we all love a good cliché.

and a little scene for that:

danny crossed his arms over his chest, leaning back against the wall as steve got to work. he was quiet, only giving directions using a very few words, and he worked quicker than danny had ever seen anyone else working. yet, he never made any of the people they met feel uncomfortable. as aloof as steve was, there was just something so warm about him, something that drew people in.

they had butted heads, more than once, but even then it was clear to danny that they were only pushing each other, making each other better, and while danny had loved working with his former partner, it couldn't even compare to the joyous challenge that was working with steve – and he was grateful that he chief editor had seen it this way, too.

he tilted his head as steve turned to look at him, a quizzical look on the photographer's face. "i think i'm nearing done here, but is there any kind of photos you specifically have in mind for your article?"

danny shook his head, a grin spreading on his lips. "no, i'm good. i think we've already established on multiple occasions that you seem to know exactly what i want and need."

What if Dae Won (from S6 Ep25) had needed a little more convincing before allowing Steve aka Evan Raintree (the much-needed pilot) to take his partner Danny aka David Carson (pilot’s much needed mechanic) on the job?

Just a fun added scene of ‘what if’ before things go to hell in the episode. (Don’t pretend you don’t know what kinda hell I’m talking about. There have been a hundred wonderful, emotional fix-its…This is not one of them.) A ‘what if’ Steve decides to ‘keep cover’ by pretending to be overly possessive/jealous boyfriend. Knowing Danny wouldn’t mind since he had once told Steve he would have gone with they were a couple so they wouldn’t break cover during one of their other recent cases. Cos, Steve just had to break cover much to Danny’s disgust. (Steve holding Mr. Pickles, rings any bells?) Anyway, let’s say Steve decides to convince Dae Won that Evan and David are a couple. (A couple of idiots in love!) What if this opens Steve’s eyes to something, he hadn’t known about his Danno?

From the bar Steve's eyes kept following Danny like a hawk. If he were sober, he may have cared about playing it cooler. But with each beer he cared less and less if seemed approachable or not.

Parents of friend's of Danny were renewing their vows in Hawaii, so there were plenty of people Danny once knew on the island. Most of them were married, either to someone they were loyal to or to their work. It was odd to see Danny relaxed in a way Steve couldn't put a name to. Being surrounded by those who understood his temperament and matched it, or were used to it and thought it normal. They knew his choice of words and deeper meanings. They laughed at things that made no sense.

Steve's bad mood began with some self doubt as he wondered if he's done enough to keep Danny from feeling intense homesickness.

It only got worse when that one bachelor seemed to zero in his gaze on Danny like a target. Normal circumstances, Steve could easily control the situation. He could pull Danny away or have any of his friends act as decoys or distractions. Not this time. In this case, Danny's friends were creating openings and chances alone...and it seemed Stubbornness was a New Jersian trait spread through the air. Never has he felt so outnumbered, that he basically ended up at the bar to wallow in his self pity and wait out until Danny wanted to leave.

The bachelor's attempts were getting bolder despite Danny's disinterest. Or maybe the bachelor read Danny's kindness and desire for the familiar as interest.

Downing the remaining of his beer, Steve stalked through the crowd. He scoffed at the bachelor as he grabbed Danny's hand and pulled him along. "Can I steal you for a moment?"

Danny didn't argue with him. Once far away enough yet not leaving the venue, Danny asked Steve, "What's up?"

"Hm?" Steve asked as he turned them. That way Steve was facing the party, while Danny's back was turned to it. "What do you mean?"

"Seriously? You disappear most of the evening, you reappear just to drag me away from a conversation?"

"I disappeared? No! We were kept apart. Or really...I was ignored. For the sake of their scheme."

"Scheme?" Danny echoed.

"They want you back. They've been pushing that asshole on you the whole evening. Worse yet...he thinks he can have you." Steve said in a quiet and dangerous voice.

Danny rolled his eyes, "That's stupid."

"No it's not. I'd try the same," Steve said as he grabbed Danny's hand. He lifted it to his lips and kissed Danny's knuckles. Then the back of his hand. Turned his hand and opened it to kiss his palm. Then wrist. Then he tugged Danny forward. The way the terrain was a bit steeped worked in his favor, Danny basically falling into him. Steve catches him and holds him close. The hand that's already in his, Steve directs to his groin. "That's yours." Steve lets go of Danny's hand and gropes him in turn. "That's mine." Using his other hand he pulls Danny flushed against him and gropes his ass next. "That's also mine. Now kiss me. And show these idiots that their plots and schemes are in vain."

It was an order. Normally, Danny didn't do those, but to his slight surprise, Danny's kissing him. They aren't in the center of the party, but they haven't walked away enough not to be seen.

The moment Danny's kissing him, he feels like he can breathe. When Danny pulls back and smiles at him, "Didn't do too well at making it clear you're my date, huh?"

"Let's book a room...that'll be clear enough."

"Go and get one. I'll say my goodbyes. "

Steve only left once he saw Danny walk by the bachelor and not give him a second glance. He also may have pulled out his badge and fibbed about the matter of importance and direness for the room. But he got one. Even one with a view.

He went back to the venue and waited for Danny by the entrance, hotel key in hand. Danny finished saying goodbye to the friends of the main event before coming to meet him.

The thrill and joy of Danny choosing him over the homesickness and nostalgia, or whatever else might be appealing, and choosing him sobered him up a bit. Or maybe it was his desire to always be the best sex in Danny's life so his gaze wouldn't ever wander.

There was something mouthwatering about Danny in ties. Part of him teasing Danny about it was because it was driving him crazy. He couldn't be trusted to not use it as leverage to pull Danny in for a kiss any and every chance he got. Danny's ties saw a lot of action in the bedroom.

At the moment, they stripped each other until they were each completely naked. If Steve was slightly more animalistic and literally ripped off Danny's clothes so he'd have to wear Steve's when they leave...it wasn't mentioned.

It wasn't long before Danny was moaning into their kiss as Steve thrust deep and hard into him. His legs resting on Steve's shoulders, giving Steve full control. This was Danny's gift to him. Letting Steve make passionate, possessive love to him all night long. Letting him be as rough as he wanted to be, as rough as he needed to be! Leaving Danny was as much marks and claims as Steve could imagine. From love marks around his neck, to red and swollen lips from kissing, to being full of load after load that Steve can pump into him.

They wake up to an invitation for brunch.

They accept and are the first ones at the reserved tables. Steve's arm is around Danny's shoulder and Danny's leaning into Steve. Hawaiian shirts they bought in the lobby that morning not buttoned all the way up displaying the mosaic of hickey's Steve left all over Danny rather proudly.

When it's there turn to order Danny tells Steve, "You know what I like."

And Steve shows off by ordering for them in Hawaiian.

Their relationship status is no longer ignored nor denied, though is heavily gossiped about throughout most of Jersey.

that time steve and danny went to a party full of Victoria secret models yet they only had eyes for each other

steve was especially worried about leaving danny alone with them, but all danny did was talk about his daughter, and, again, in a room full of world's top models it's steve danny is quite literally thirsting over ↓

but even a bigger sign that steve has nothing to worry about? danny leaves grace, his precious baby girl his entire heart and life, in steve's care the entire time ↓

(as an aside how cute is it that steve just holds gracie's hand the whole time before she is handed off to the models for them to fawn over her)

notice how danny doesn't even have to check up on her/constantly look at her (which is saying a lot considering how overprotective he is) because he trusts steve that much. he is the worthy co-parent in danny's eyes and there's no bigger testimonial over how steve is the only one for danny.

they really did look like a couple who only took their daughter to a fancy party because she would enjoy it, not to ogle the models themselves, because that's what they are, de facto. (two outstanding heterosexuals amirite? ;))

they are just oblivious to that fact and insecure/jealous because they wouldn't be steve and danny otherwise.

THAT FIRST TOUCH: mary and callen always got along. like, more than fantastically so, and sometimes---- sometimes, sam hanna could get jealous of that. but damn if his partner knew what pushed his buttons, because callen would do everything in his power, to make sure he did and often at that. but then again, what're partners for? so mary passed the 'test', so to speak. because she is showing him pictures of her belgian malinois. the name of the dog escapes him briefly, but he's just watching callen make some smartass comment and she whacks him playfully with the back of her hand while laughing. lips purse in thought, before he escapes his chair, wanders over to catch her chin with his fingers and kisses her right there. might earn them a whistle from callen. the pain in the ass.

THAT SECOND TOUCH: sam knows that bringing his kinds into any sort of relationship is touch and go. but. aiden and kamran mean the world to him. and he's not comfortable with allowing just anyone to meet his family. however, the dea agent has always been, for lack of a better word, different than most. that's in the good sense. so he's planned a day at the beach for everyone. mary coming on her own, him and the kids. sun, sand, swimming, jet skis, snorkeling, the works. really does go off without a hitch. except for his kids being unable to decide on food. well. they have very different tastes, so he doesn't expect less. so he gives them both a $20, letting them pick on their own. once they disappear, he pulls her into his arms, kissing her forehead. ‘ pretty sure you've won them over. ’

THAT THIRD TOUCH: leaving deeks there never sat right with him. they had both been tortured so violently. and he partially, if not fully, blames himself for the fact. something he's never truly discussed with anyone. he tries to keep a strong facade as he does with everything, but there are times, especially now with how he sees him with kensi that make him think twice. grunting suddenly, he blinks as he's been smacked with a pillow from the right side. brow lofted, he catches mary in the act, chuckling. ‘ alright, alright, ’ hands up in surrender. ‘ my mistake. i thought you liked puppies. ’ random topic to diverge from his own mental state.

THAT FOURTH TOUCH: sam hated how bitter he felt. michelle had always been too good at her job. almost too good. he had been worried from the get-go. especially when it came to the likes of isaak sidorov. she had to play like she was in love with the man. and it tore at him, piece by piece. sam's rage was unhinged. he was at headquarters, pounding the life out of a punching bag. his fourth one by the looks of it. he's not holding back, the punches landing with a deadly amount of accuracy as his mind is riddled with memories. the last blow, the one that sends the bag hurdling across the floor, is what breaks his focus. it's then that he'll feel a hand on his bicep. ‘ sorry, ’ he utters almost too quietly. ‘ got lost in my thoughts. ’

THAT FIFTH TOUCH: the former navy seal was really almost impenetrable when it came to emotions. he had been hardened considerably, thanks to the job. it's either that or it's his partner. whatever the case, he really and truly can't get over the fact, that steve mcgarrett is gone. he knows that steve is doing it to better himself, to get the free time and the freedom he needs. it doesn't help that he considered steve a close friend, hell, even family. it hit deep in his chest, almost a pain he couldn't bother to describe. when he felt the tender, sensitive touch of her fingertips across the broad spans of his shoulders, he let out the breath he'd been holding in for too long. thankfulness pooled deep in those chocolate browns. no words needed. this time.

Random thoughts about Hawaii Five-0 rewatch: part 3/?

Last random thought for a while, because I need to find the time to skip between s6-s10 DVDs.

Thought #4: dude....love triangles only apply to romantically and sexually involved people, so no, don't worry, we won't "call it bromance", or: The Prom Date parallel, or: The Real Jersey Slip.

This one is really just on my mind, but since I was skipping between contents just to make sure everything was (probably) working (Danny's negativity is powerful in me), I happened to land onto two specific bits of dialogue which made me bitter-laugh so madly.

The incriminated dialogues are found in the s4 Shorelines (I think), and in the commentary (courtesy of Lenkov, O'Loughlin, and Park) for 3x17 aka the Pro Bowl date episode.

I'm reasoning backwards, because what the writers were saying, extensively, about the Billy storyline, was that they wanted to show a different side of McGarrett: he's sure of himself, self-confident, cocky even, when coming to his job and skills....but what about his feelings and personal life? He does have a vulnerable, doubtful side, one which makes him feel stuttering when coming to relationships. He trusts Catherine (ouch), and Billy too because they used to be battlefield brothers. But does he? So they explored this jealous side of him, one he's not proud of and which he desperately tries to stifle, deny, push down and downplay, because admitting it would mean feeling weak.

Also, Billy's death would've put Catherine in a place where she didn't have purpose in life anymore, where she felt guilty for something she was trained to prevent, bringing her to seek Steve's presence as a friend too (!!!!) to have a shoulder to cry onto.

This is absolute perfect, and I do appreciate the effort and the general masterplan...even if as usual, character-study is not the main interest for an older audience thus it was obviously shallow and just hinted at, in reality....and also they shamefully killed Billy after a few episodes instead of exploring this "love triangle" in depth.

That's it. That's the exact idiom they used for the Billy/Catherine arc. Love triangle. Which is absolutely the correct term for the situation. Let's pack it for later, and let's move to the 3x17 commentary.

What's so funny to me, is that when the (in)famous "Cath gets ditched because Steve is going with Danny" scene comes on screen, you hear PL almost absentmindedly perking up and laughing, saying something like "Oh, and here we are at the classic love triangle drama!".....then suddenly shuts up because he gets aware of what he just said.

At this point things get frenzy, they laugh, Grace cheers, and someone (PL? Alex?) hurries to add "C'mon Steve, don't be that man who ditches his girlfriend to go out with his best friend!", to save the situation.

Only problem is, we hear Alex (I think it’s his voice this time), saying "It's exactly like one of those awkward moments when you're asked for prom, but you turn down the person because you already have a date".

And we really remember when that other "prom date moment" was, right?

I really can't understand why they chose to ditch all this potential they were all clearly aware of, just for heteronormativity sake. A man and a woman can be platonic best friends. Two men can be completely romantically committed to each other. I really can't see what the problem is.
