the way that jesse plemmons was treated and talked about in the wake of “el camino” being released is still one of the most heinous, nasty displays of blatant fatphobia ive ever seen on a public level. ive always maintained that gilligan and co’s decision to avoid re-casts and weird de-aging solutions in favor of asking the audience to suspend its disbelief when visibly changed actors return as their characters is a great one, but it became the biggest talking point of el camino (and again, to a lesser and less vile degree, in better call saul). jesse plemmons gave a genuinely fantastic performance in that movie, expanding on todd’s character in ways that demonstrate how perfectly he understood his nuanced, quiet derangement and contributing meat and drama to the film that it could not survived without. but no one talked about that. no one talked about the wonderful performance. everything—from social media posts to podcasts to official reviews from publications—centered around his weight. plemmons had visibly gained weight since “breaking bad” and that was all that mattered. it made him a joke, an embarrassment. some people tried to cloak their fatphobia with lame-ass complaints like “oh it took me out of the movie” and “we didn’t even need todd anyway”, but others were loud and clear about how the weight gain was a reason to express disgust and derision. it wasn’t about “looking different” or “aging”, it was about gaining weight specifically. and people are still making jokes about it. so fucking gross.

I'm a simple woman. I see a casually psychopathic Jesse Plemmons, I get horny. It's uncomplicated.

Civil War is Disturbingly on Point
I'm torn on this film, yet can't deny how disturbingly accurate it is for this moment in American history https://wp.me/p2v8yf-6nB #CivilWarMovie #A24 #podcast
Having just screened Kate Winslet’s ‘Lee’ over the summer centering on the life and career of legendary war photojournalist Lee Miller, I was intrigued to see yet another film where the cinematic focal point would be around journalists and war. Directed Alex Garland, Civil War follows seasoned war photographer, Lee  (Kirsten Dunst) as she reflects on her life amdst two generations of journalists…

Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
"Killers of the Flower Moon" is Martin Scorsese's highly-anticipated film of David Grann's 2017 best seller about a series of murders in the Osage nation in the 1920's. Although the people and location are much different, the basic story recalls some previous Scorsese mob pictures.
Greed, more than anything else, drives Robert Deniro's character William Hale. Ostensibly a friend and supporter of the Osage, Hale (and others) looked to capitalize on the discovery of oil in the Osage nation. "Headrights" were given to the first Osage in the reservation by the US Department of the Interior, who controlled the lucrative payments to those Osage. As in a mob family, the Hale the boss, saw a potential racket. Also, like a mob boss, Hale wouldn't hesitate to use violence through minions or marriage to gain a potential healthy windfall or buy off corrupt law enforcement officials.
Leonardo DiCaprio gives a brave performance as Ernest Burkhart, Hale's nephew. Burkhart gets a job driving and meets Mollie, played in an Oscar-worthy performance by Lily Gladstone. During this period, numerous members of the Osage nation are murdered with no investigation. The Osage are outraged at the lack of any action on the part of law enforcement. Ernest attempts a criminal fraud without Hale's knowledge. From there, Burkhart gets more entwined in Hale's plans who gives him insulin (he says) for the diabetic Mollie. This bonds Ernest to him (once again, like a mob boss).
"Killers of the Flower Moon" is a beautifully realized film, with many Scorsese trademark themes. The Osage people are fully realized. Period detail is incredible. Friend and Scorsese collaborator Robbie Robertson (who recently passed away at 80) did the score. As I said, Dicaprio is terrific. He's an everyman who's a little slow-witted and easily led astray. Gladstone is the true heart of the picture, giving Mollie a quiet dignity that gives way to extraordinary sorrow as she sees her family and culture disappearing before her eyes. Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow and musician Jack White are all good in supporting roles (as is Scorsese himself in a cameo at the end). Other than being just a little too long, "Killers of the Flower Moon" is a great film and in the upper echelon of the Scorsese canon.

Fact #495
Wesley Snipes learned to play bocce on the set of Pride of Lions with coaching from co-star Jesse Plemmons. After filming, the actors realized they shared more than just a passion for Italian park sports. Plemmons was an amateur remote control tank hobbyist. So was Snipes. Both were midgets and both had at one point in their careers gone to Philip Seymour Hoffman for acting advice without appointments and been rudely shooed out of Hoffman's apartment by his Xbox golfing partner, Ice-T.

“this actor has visibly aged since we last saw them” “this actor has gained weight since we last saw them” “haha they look so old, we’re supposed to buy that they’re still in their twenties??” im sorry would u rather gilligan and co smother every actor’s face in mcu de-aging software?? would u rather jesse plemmons go on a crash diet or get recast because he gained weight between breaking bad and el camino?? u have critical thinking, u know what character that actor plays and know that it’s a flashback. who cares they look a little older. “aaron paul had crows feet playing 19 year old jesse in this flashback” OKAY?? and he slayed absolute penis, sorry about ur inability to suspend ur disbelief

I aboslutly agree with you by casting steven as ricky it adds a more tragic twist to the star lasso experience scene,if it had been jesse plemmons i would have been less sympathetic but with steven i felt bad for him
steven could have played it menacing, he played menacing in burning and it was fantastic and a little hot. but instead i just saw like a lost child in adult jupe, someone just getting by in an industry that clearly never valued him as a person by literally putting him on the same entertainment level as a chimp or having him be the "asian kid" which i know from experience with the walking dead fandom or the years of people thinking steven is ke huy quan (i'm so serious)..... probably hits close to home for steven as an actor. and now he thinks he's gained an upper hand using the horses to feed his metaphorical chimp but just like with gordy, the balloons pop eventually. but i was thinking also about how jupiter's claim will become a spectacle again once the dust settles and jupe will have gone from child star to animal attack survivor to amusement park face to jean jacket victim to unsolved mysterious mass disappearance it literally never ends
