i've been thinking about them and their dynamic pre-rebellion. they are the only two nightmarens of their kind, and i have to believe they found companionship in each other. would NiGHTS have hesitated for a moment before rebelling, wanting reala to join them? would they have felt betrayed by his refusal? would reala have felt betrayed by NiGHTS leaving anyway? i think NiGHTS's rebellion must have been so, so lonely for both of them.

Okay, so...how do your NiGHTS and Reala look without their hats? I've seen some people give them horns while others just have the hats just be regular ol' jester caps.

I like giving them horns and hair underneath! Here's a collection of both NiGHTS and Reala and how I typically draw them under their hats/hoods:

I think both interpretations are fun, and both work well for the idea of these nightmarish, though very dreamy/otherworldly entities. It also gives a neat juxtaposition against Wizeman, having these ethereal, beautiful (and only just slightly uncanny) creatures under his command when he is this metallic, rigid and angular thing.
