🍂Jorleesi Fall Event: Call For Prompts🍂

Dear Jorah & Daenerys fans,

A few weeks back, there was a survey asking the fandom what kind of event people wished for as the next Jorleesi event, an open prompt event for fall or another gift exchange like we had for summer.

Although it was relatively close in numbers, more people voted for an open prompt event (similarly to the one we had in the previous years in December). Instead of going for a full month, we decided to host a classic fanweek for this year’s fall event.

Some early information:

🍂 In that event week, each day (Monday - Sunday) will have specific prompt theme. You can create a submission based on any of the themes that spark your muse. If you consider participation, just drop a DM to this blog.

🍂 Any media (fanfic, fanart, edits, gifs, songlists, etc pp) of any length (from 100 drabble to multi-chapter) can be submitted. There is no limit on how many submissions you can add.

🍂 Submit your work on the day of the prompt you have chosen (more details will follow). You can submit your work on a platform of your liking (e.g. tumblr or AO3). All works will be reblogged on this blog to collect them all, so if you will post your work on AO3 make sure to post a link to your work on tumblr too!

There will be more specific information about the event soon, but for now we would like to include you in the preparations. That is why we hereby

We would like to ask you what kind of prompts/themes you want to see in the upcoming event. The prompts can be anything that sparks your muse. Prompts/themes should at best be phrased as single words and - if possible -  can have some kind connection to the overall fall theme. Think of more general themes (domesticity) rather than of specific situations (Jorah and Dany snuggling up in bed while there is raining outside). If you need some ideas: What does come to your mind when you think about fall? (e.g. leaves, morning chill, harvest, halloween, tea, reading sessions, etc pp)

This way you can also contribute to the fanweek even if you are not going to submit an own work.

🍂 Please send us your prompt ideas (either as a private message or as a note on this post) until Friday, September 3, 2021.

🍂 In case that there should be more prompts than we have days in a week, we will either have a vote on the most popular prompts or the mods will combine similar suggestions for one day.

🍂 Once the prompts/themes are settled, we will set the specific date for the event week, which will approximately be around late October/early November to give everyone time to create a submission. More to be announced soon!

Of Love Stories and Lizards - Chapter 1 - GettingOverGreta - Game of Thrones (TV) [Archive of Our Own]

My Jorleesi exchange gift for the lovely @clarasimone, who wanted a 1930s romantic comedy vibe, or perhaps a Highland romance...so I tried to squeeze in a bit of both.

While spending a summer on the French RivieraFree Coast of Essos at a benefactor's seaside estate, sometime in a fictional 1930s, Professor Jorah Mormont gets some unexpected assistance with his side project - writing one of the romance novels that actually pay his bills. His assistant, of course, is an outgoing, temperamental socialite with a slightly scandalous past named Daenerys Targaryen.

(The first chapter is T-M rated and can stand alone, but there is an E-rated bonus chapter.)

Also ignoring the WIP file for original works which is an active disaster zone. Jorleesi Summer Solstice Exchange - Day 1

Works are now being revealed for the Jorleesi Summer Solstice Fanwork Exchange.

Our first batch of gifts are all works in progress, since I wanted to give the authors of these works adequate time to post the subsequent chapters before author reveals.

A Decent Proposal for @throughtheblue (Chapter 1 of ?)

In 1811 London, Lady Daenerys Targaryen has everything in her favor for attracting a husband during the Season: a wealthy father, beauty beyond compare, and the respect of the Queen herself. Similarly, Viscount Jorah Mormont would make a suitable husband for any young woman - he is handsome, rich, and accomplished. What do these two have in common? A complete and utter resistance towards marriage. When they meet at the Queen's Ball, they concoct a plan they believe will be mutually beneficial to the both of them - as long as their hearts don't get in the way.

For the character ask: Brienne

How I feel about this character

I love her so much, both as a person and a character. Like there are a lot of characters out there that are good people but not that interesting of characters and a lot of really compelling exciting characters that are not good people, but Brienne is both.  I love her mixture of deserved confidence and insecurity.  I love her.  The other day I was going over some Audre Lorde poetry, specifically “A Litany for Survival” and  I feel like that idea of “we were never meant to survive” really applies in so many ways to Brienne.  She is living in a hostile world where she is “wrong” but instead of letting that cow her, she decides that since she will never fit in or be invisible, she might as well speak up by doing what she believes is right.  And she does it with such vulnerability (which I think Cat is drawn to about her initially). Like she can’t hide her raw vulnerable spots, she isn’t good at pretending.  She’s too honest, too direct, too true.   She knows, as well as anyone, that the world is unfair and cruel but she doesn’t let change her to be that way or make her numb.  Brienne feels so deeply, so intensely.   We see so many characters “go away inside” (Sansa vanishing into Alayne, Jaime obviously shares that strategy openly, Cersei uses it to endure sexual encounters she isn’t into, Arya hides in made up personas, Tyrion numbs himself with alcohol) but Brienne stays in the agonizing present.  

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Jaime/Brienne is a forever OTP and nothing holds a candle to it, but I’ve been known to dabble a bit in some Brienne femslash (like the time I wrote Brienne/Arianne) partly because I love the idea of someone who is all the things Brienne feels grief about not being seeing and embracing her.  To me, the key thing is that Brienne finds something who loves her for who she is, not in spite of it, but also that she actually wants.  (And Brienne is a sucker for pretty, isn’t she?)

My non-romantic OTP for this character

I love fics that have her interacting with Tyrion and/or Sansa, for different reasons.  Tyrion, is fun because they are really unalike in a lot of ways but they both know what it is like to be visibly unacceptable to those around you but also really get who Jaime is and love him.  Sansa is interesting because of all the chivalry/songs stuff and longing for love and handsome knights, but also the realization that the world is not going to give you that, but also because Sansa has never actually had anyone whose true loyalty was to her before.  

My unpopular opinion about this character

I don’t know that this is unpopular so much as salty, but it really annoys me when people characterize Brienne as not being into feminine things.  She isn’t rejecting femininity, it has rejected her.  She fantasizes about basically swooning in Jaime’s arms and having him comfort her.  She is uncomfortable in the dress not because she doesn’t like it or want to look good in it but because she feels like she doesn’t and it is embarrassing.    Brienne knows she is ugly, but she WANTS to be beautiful.    She wants to be loved.   

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I want her and Jaime to have a better ending than the absolutely garbage that was the show. It doesn’t have to be a happy ending, but there’s a difference the tragedy of something like him dying in her arms and saying ”I always said I wanted to die in the arms of the woman I loved” or even just going down together in battle and THAT (derogatory).

“Colder,” he said, and smiled at her noise of disgust. “But we’d have more furs and wool to keep you warm, roaring fires and mulled wine.”

“Don’t need those if I have a bear,” she said sleepily, and Jorah told himself that the ache in his heart was only nostalgia for a place he would likely never see again.
