Is anyone else thinking that captain rose will be a another rose quartz situation, where --and this is not only chip's prospective, the other black rose members still think so highly of him-- he is greatness itself, good in every way enough to, directly or not, dedicate your whole life to following in his steps, yet along the way you begin to see the consequences he left behind seemingly careless, to all the things that have gone wrong because of his selfishness and recklessness, how in time you start to see the negative aspects of his character and slowly almost begin to hate him, for what he'd done, for how little he thought of you dispite seemingly loving you all so much, how he knew things would go wrong yet left your life knowing it'd be all on your shoulders, how he says in recorded memory that you're destined for greatness, yet had his recorded words be apparently the only thing he'd done with you in mind.

But dispite your feelings about him, whether or not he was a good person, he still matters, he still left a mark on your existence and life, and think bad of him all you want, he's gone. Maybe not entirely dead, but surely, gone.

I love thinking about how Chip so desperately wants to save Ollie when he just doesn’t need saving. Chip wants to be what he needed to someone that is just his foil. Ollie has someone waiting for him, Ollie is often times (bc of the belt) strong enough to defend himself, and Ollie has had a good loving happy life. But Chip can’t accept that. I think he just sees Ollie as himself, like he’s trying to heal his inner child in a way. Especially after the last episode you really see that he realizes Ollie is almost his opposite. Idk just been on my mind.

i've been thinking about this since chip got his fire powers. i always expected Jay to be the one with the fire because that's been such a motif throughout her character. her family are the spicy birds!! that's their thing!! i was totally expecting a phoenix situation.

but she actively chose NOT to follow in those footsteps. she learned how to make things instead of breaking them like her father. she became who SHE wants to be, not who anyone expected her to be. and i think she's just so cool for it

Hey y'all! Since it's Love Loses Wednesday for all who celebrate and I have plenty of thoughts about it, here's some of those thoughts I've had for my fellow enjoyers of Chip Bastard from the insanely powerful podcast Just Roll With It!

So.

Chip being so focused on family and friends, on finding Arlin and keeping his co-captains and crew safe, while the most he ever shows interest in romance is in brief, jokey flirting that's quickly brushed aside.

Chip buying a love potion, only for it to sit unused in his inventory for literal months until it unceremoniously drops into the mouth of the Electrodon.

Chip being unnerved or even downright scared when somebody shows a sign of being attracted to him (Amanda with the marriage, Jazz and his flirting, the frantic denial to Ollie that Gillion kissing him meant anything (which was then followed by barely any change in their relationship. A typically romantic act, done as an act of love between friends, and yet those friends never did start a romance. Curious))

Speaking of Amanda and the marriage: Chip waking up one day and suddenly being expected, even morally obligated, to be in a romantic relationship with somebody he doesn't even know, for reasons he doesn't even know. And even when he clarifies that he doesn't want this, that he won't give up being a pirate with his friends for it, he still can't leave behind the expectation fully, because Amanda, and thus this expectation, is literally chasing him. Sometimes it even comes from his own friends, because no matter how much he would prefer to just Not Be Married, there's no way for him to get out of it, especially not ones Gillion would likely accept, and therefore the expectation that eventually, he'll be in a romance, is inescapable.

And even more interesting, he's not opposed to the idea of getting married in general. He wasn't wholly against the notion of marrying Igneous just for the AC boost it would give them. Clearly, the problem he had wasn't with the marriage itself, but with the fact that he was expected to form a romantic partnership.

And lastly: Chip having his literal heart ripped out of him, and staying nearly the same. Making jokes about how his heart was stolen in a way that was literal instead of romantic. Writing to his wife that if death do them part, then now it has (and doesn't it even say something that the only way for him to escape the marriage, the expectations, was to die?)

He cares for his friends just the same. He cares for his crew just the same. He wants to find Arlin just as much as ever. And his avoidance of his wife, of the expectation that he perform romance, stays the same. But even if he's the exact same, he has an excuse for this now. Because clearly, somebody with no heart couldn't feel romance, and who cares that he didn't really seem to before he lost his heart either?

Chip being aromantic, on a textual, metaphorical, and thematic level.

With my action I pull out The InstaKiller3000, which everyone forgot I had and collectively agrees I should not have ever under any circumstances. With my bonus action I am going to use the most vaguely worded spell in existence and argue semantics with the dm for at least 10 minutes until I somehow bs my way into making a shitty spell turn The InstaKiller3000 into The InstaKiller10000. Hi. m bored so let's discect some traitor theories..

We'll go from least possible to most. (In my humble objectivly correct opinion)

So first rudith:

Is on lizzie's ship.

A particularly new recruite

Said he wasn't for living on the sea yet joined her

Was sort of upfront about his backstory

Noone suspects him or think of him first

Now. As you can see, you can argue all these points of evidence can be reasoned as otherwise, I'm sure someone can explain him as the plant better, however until then I think he just got envolved and didn't leave so he's just there now.

Therefore, caspian?

Well he is on lizzie's ship

Apparently been there since shadow beard

Stuck with her and knows everything she does

Told his backstory to gillion no issues

Knew edyn someway (she has an involvement with navy)

Now I don't know about you, but this guy doesn't sound too suspicious to me. Like, he even sounded nervous when the pearl told him "very doubtful" abt whether the war will succeed and probably saved lizzie a few too many times. Also I'm mainly about how he was on shadow beard's ship with lizzie before their own, besides, he's chill.

So now, for the main culprit.. Marchel john.

Now forget the bullet points thing, we're talking business. Cuz if jay could be easily put undercover to go with chip, then he sure as hell can tear off his sleeves in the chaos of rebellion and wave to the pirate that literally gave him the trust on a silver platter. BECAUSE GILLION JUST FUCKING TRUSTED HIM. Why? We'll never know. But isn't it so absolutely possible with how he didn't really go with him at first but in the chaos of the uproar gillion caused there was an opportunity and he took it? Abandoning his crew for the perfect chance. Not only that, he might have already gotten the idea from seeing lizzie first, being a first, eager recruite sounds like an important trustworthy role. Not only that but when he joined her crew he was meant to be their GUIDE. Like he knows every move because he's making them. Don't even get me started on offering gillion a conch when they meet again. This was his conch but also a navy conch that could be possiblly detected someway. Also, and I can't stress this enough, and even though it was with caspian too it was slightly more gradual where they spend time together before becoming bros and meeting eydn through caspian was probably what put him so high. But with John, THE GUY HAD TO DO LITERALLY NOTHING TO EARN HIS TRUST. Like caspian was an undersea person and so was familiar. But John was literally NAVY. He just jumped on this war bandwagon too eagerly. And I'm not saying he's an evil mastermind discuised as a himbo. But all I'm saying is smart himbos that are devoted enough to somebody, some leader perhaps, are one deadly fucking weapon.

There's no conclusion, speculate if you want.

i cannot get over the way he grapples with his own self-worth and identity throughout the series i need to be euthanized please i love him so much

in ep 57 when he seems worried about not being able to accompany the crew on their missions after going home, on the one hand he’s aware of the limitations that come with being a child and may feel that he has to prove himself by being as useful and capable as possible. yet on the other hand, he also wants to be accepted for who he is and not be seen as a burden or a liability. it was kinda like he had been feeling some insecurities about his value and abilities due to his physical appearance and perceived immaturity. when he was given the ability to appear more mature, it seems as if it gave him a sense of self worth and self confidence. however upon returning to his normal state after chip makes the deal with niklaus, he was once again confronted with these feelings of inadequacy, leading to his unhappiness about having to go home and leaving the others behind.

thinking about how doomed chip and arlins reunion is. like. even not including all of the corruption and stuff implied to be happening with the hole in the sea. chip was around 9. a 9 year old who thought the world of arlin, and how can you live up to the expectations of a child who thinks the world of you, one who has had a decade to build you up in their mind.

and on the other side. arlin remembering a small boy who was a bit mischievous at worst, now stood in front of him ten years older, with countless scars, not even breathing. completely unrecognisable.
