EAST HAVEN'S 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EVENT: THE WIND STORM

With the 1 year anniversary of East Haven's opening, we have decided to have an event that centers around a wind storm that is blowing it's way through town, inciting chaos where ever it goes. The event will start on January 5th at 12pm (noon) and end on January 15th at 12am (midnight). No new starters should be posted after January 10th.

You were placed into groups that are listed below. You will be expected to write with at least one character in that group that you normally do not write with. You are still free to do other threads with others in the group, but are required to at least one.

Participation for this event will be mandatory. Acceptances and checks will be held as usual. Reminder: Injuries need to be in by January 3rd*. You can find the form here. Details of this will be posted on the 5th.

Encanto OC Event Week 1: Mercedes Reyes

Full Name: Mercedes Yarisel Cordova Reyes.

DOB: October 20th, 1899. Died June 26th, 1935.

POB: Bogota, Colombia.

Likes/Hobbies: Painting, long walks, exploring, rock collecting, swimming, dancing, and reading romance novels.

Dislikes: Arguing, being bored, her mother’s dismissiveness and people mistreating others.

MBTI: INFP

Height: Exactly 5 feet tall though she was an inch taller than Bruno at one point.

Hair Color/Style: Dark brown. Mid-back length and no bangs. She'd like changing the hairstyle every day and wear a pretty sunhat when outdoors.

Eye color: Jade green.

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual.

Voice: Zulay Henao.

Positive Traits: Compassionate, loyal, idealistic, easygoing, romantic and a dreamer.

Family:  Her father, Vicente Cordova, passed away when she was 3. She has very few memories of him. Mother, Maria Reyes, who is controlling and manipulative. Armando Zaragoza became her stepfather when she was 14. She didn't like him at first but got along well with him. Half-sister Desideria was born when she was 15.

Eventually was forced into an arranged marriage with Pablo Salazar. They had twin girls, Francisca and Alejandra. Mercedes became close to her mother-in law Perla, but not with her father-in-law Arturo who's not the most sensitive person.

Backstory: After her dad died, Mercedes moved to different cities with her mom. At some point, they met a group of people who were traveling for new starts. They joined and miraculously arrived to the Encanto! Upon the first day, 10-year-old Mercedes met most of the Madrigals. She was getting used to a new home, but desired to find a library or bookstore. She wanted to find a book to a series she'd almost completed. A couple days after moving, she found one and searched for her book. The only copy she found was being read by a nervous looking boy: Bruno.

I'll save it for the Relationship week, but they were best friends. Some would say soulmates with how well they got along. Mercedes was friends with Julieta and Pepa, but she clicked with Bruno. Even when his reputation became worse and he was mistreated, she remained loyal. Bruno was grateful to her and devastated when she was forced to leave for the arranged marriage. The last time they saw each other, they were almost 20, and sadly, they won't meet again.

The marriage wasn't bad. Pablo had to leave his girlfriend due to the arrangement. He and Mercedes both understood each other's situation which led to respect and empathy. They really liked each other, but there wasn't true love. As a teen, Mercedes had always imagined different scenarios with her true love: exchanging love letters, dancing under starry skies and kiss in the rain. She had to leave the dreams behind, but her twins were the best part of her life.

When the twins were 13, Pablo and Mercedes annulled their marriage realizing they weren't content anymore. (Also Pablo was having an emotional affair.) After that, Mercedes took her daughters to Cali and secretly hoped she'd find the Encanto again. With the movie's timeline, Mercedes already passed away from a severe case of malaria. She was only 35. She left her daughters behind with no other family support. Though she's gone, her story isn't over because her children will find the Encanto and meet the Madrigals.

WIP Wednesday

I’m not saying what this is from because that would be telling too much.  But I figured @radio-chatter​ could use a pick me up for their Wednesday.

“Daddy—Poppa says you’re late,” came the voice of his daughter making Scott look up.  All of five years old, she was the spitting image of Reyes. Dark eyes watched him from underneath dark hair that had been carefully braided back by Keema’s or Ellen’s expert hands and a string of flowers twisted into the strands to make a delicate flower crown. 

A crown for a princess—which is what the entire family called their youngest, and only, daughter. Elinor who was named after Scott’s own mother.  Elinor Julieta Vidal-Ryder. 

Normally, Eli would be in a pair of dungarees and a t-shirt but someone had obvious bribed her to get her into the dress she was wearing.  It didn’t escape Scott’s notice that her usual pair of boots peaked out from underneath the hem instead of the slippers his mom tried to bribe her into wearing. 

“Late am I?” He teased her, letting her climb up into his lap so she could see what he was looking at.  The flight plan on the display was her brother’s and Scott had been monitoring the spaceport’s traffic control channel all morning.  

It would be good to have Matteo back.  He’d been training on Aya now for almost six months and despite the regular emails and vidcalls, Matteo had forbidden both of his parents from just popping over to Aya to just ‘check on him’ as Reyes had tried to phrase it. 

Their eldest wanted to make his own way and both Scott and Reyes supported him. Scott had to talk Reyes out of objecting when Matteo had joined the Kadaran Defense Force under the name Matteo Harlow in order to avoid special treatment and they’d had to use intermediaries like Crux to send care packages for the first year before Matteo had decided he trusted his fire team enough to let them know who his parents were. 

Scott had resisted the urge to point out that given he looked like Scott’s clone minus having Reyes’ dark hair or that his son had the same speech patterns as the King of Kadara and when he was tired he made the exact same face Reyes did when he was doing official interviews it was pretty obvious whose child he was.   Reyes had merely sighed and rolled his eyes when Matteo’s unit had let it slip that they had figured it out the second week of boot camp on Havarl. It wasn’t like either Scott or Reyes wasn’t easily recognizable to everyone in Heleus with access to HNN.

So I watched Encanto and got way too attached to this family. This is the result...

Home is Wherever I'm With You: The Mendez Family

Alma and Pedro Madrigal attempted to flee from Shuriki's reign of terror, fearing that she would discover their magic and bring harm to them and their triplet newborns.

Well, Shuriki eventually found out, and gave chase to the Madrigals and others who were attempting to escape into the northern kingdom of Misthaven. Just as they crossed the Conteteda River to catch a ferry, disaster struck, the soldiers caught them, and Pedro sacrificed himself.

You know how the story goes from there.

A year after the family pieced itself back together thanks to Mirabel, the Madrigal's were thriving, and the town flourishing. Alma even agreed to lower the magic surrounding it, allowing outsiders in and allowing the residents to explore the surrounding towns. This was only done after it was revealed that Shuriki was dead and Princess Elena had assumed the throne.

Bruno saw a vision of the family being swept up in Regina's curse, and though the family tried to re-fortify Encanto, they were unsuccessful, and swept away to Storybrooke.

Thankfully, the curse kept the family together, and they are some of the most beloved members of the town.

Alma Paula (María Cecilia Botero) is a retired teacher, and a close friend of Granny.

Pedro Miguel (Fabián Ríos) was tragically killed in the Storybrooke Mines. His death was what lead to their closure.

Julieta Sara (Angie Cepeda) runs the Storybrooke Bakery, and is the go-to for celebration desserts.

Pepa Antonella (Judy Reyes) is the town's Meteorologist, and her predictions are known to be freakishly accurate. Isn't it a shame she doesn't work for a national network...?

Bruno Juan (John Leguizamo) is a writer for the newspaper, but has stacks of fiction books that he's nervous about sending to publishers.

Isabela Ines (Sofia Carson) is a florist for Game of Thornes. She's the wild one of the family, frequenting The Rabbit Hole with Lacey and Ruby.

Luisa Daniella (Sarah Robles) is a college student, and also works at the Storybrooke Bookstore as a way to relax.

Mirabel Carolina (Belissa Escobedo) is a high school student, and is often found after school at Sara's bakery.

Dolores Andrea (Adassa) is Tomas' fianceé, and a DJ, typically for weddings in the town, but also for school dances or other large events.

Camillo Diego (Mauricio Lara) is a high school student. He's the class clown and frequently lands in detention.

Antonio Oscar is an elementary school student with a penchant for animals.

Augustín Carlos (Pedro Pascal) is a fisherman, frequently tangled in his equipment.

Félix Matias (Mauro Castillo) is an architect, and designed most of Storybrooke's playgrounds, along with Sara's bakery.

Mariano Tomas (Maluma) is Andrea's fiancé, and works as a jeweler, at the store owned by his mother.

oh what an episode. WHAT an episode. I say it every single time but who else other than Monica Julieta Reyes could make "You're a dog person" into something so near a love confession? and it's all ouroboros too, we end where we began and it's a mirror image of the opening scene, a new opportunity and more hesitation. and this time Monica doesn't say anything, she just accepts it. because she knows. she KNOWS more than she did before what they mean to each other. and so does he. and like... I think they both know that the other knows. they both know how they feel about each other and they know it's reciprocated, but the thing is that he isn't ready yet and she's perfectly content to wait until he is.

Okay, as I am writing this drabble with Julieta, I realize I should clear things up in case anyone’s confused with the My Heart, My Body, My Soul timeline. I did change it up a bit.

-Adrian is forced to marry Aemond a month after her arrival in King’s Landing.

-Julieta transports from the modern world to Westeros three weeks after Adrian’s car accident. But time works differently in Westeros. So three weeks is actually three months.  

-Adrian, in a vulnerable state, ends up sleeping with Aemond after Julieta returns back to the modern world. 

-And it's around another month or so that Adrian finds out she’s pregnant, which to Julieta would only be a week.

Mercedes Wardrobe

Mercedes’s Wardbrobe (Encanto OC) Finally got the Doll Divine clothes for Mercedes Reyes! October 20th is her birthday! Younger than PB&J by three days.

Housework Attire: Always keeps her hair back and wears an apron Julieta gave her.

Formal Dress: Due to her mother being very social, she'd drag Mercedes to a lot of events. While Mercedes likes wearing nice clothes, she doesn't feel comfortable with big crowds.

Quince Dress: She was given pearl jewelry by her parents. It wasn't a perfect birthday until Bruno showed up.

Day Out: When Mercedes has her sunhat, she's planning for a day out. Usually, it's for a long walk and later sitting along the riverbank. When she's got her satchel, that's a rock collecting day. She painted little flowers on it for decor. You can bet Bruno was "dragged" along.

Analiza Congreso avances de reformas con iniciativa Spotlight de ONU Mujeres

CHILPANCINGO * 2 de febrero de 2023. ) Congreso de Guerrero La presidenta y presidente de las comisiones legislativas de los Derechos de las Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes y de Justicia, Beatriz Mojica Morga y Jesús Parra García, sostuvieron una reunión de trabajo con la coordinadora de la Iniciativa Spotlight de ONU Mujeres, Nayeli Sánchez Macías, junto a David Peña Rodríguez y Karla Michell Salas Ramírez, del Grupo de Acción por los Derechos Humanos y Justicia Social de la ONU, con quienes abordaron los avances de estudios realizados a distintas disposiciones jurídicas de la

entidad que tienen relación con el paquete de reformas contempladas en dicha iniciativa encaminada a eliminar la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas. Lo anterior, en seguimiento a la firma del Memorándum de Entendimiento con la ONU Mujeres y el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo en México con el Congreso del Estado, en el marco de la iniciativa Spotlight, cuyo propósito es fortalecer el marco legal para la prevención y erradicación de la violencia contra las mujeres y las niñas de Guerrero. En el contexto de la reunión, la diputada Beatriz Mojica celebró el trabajo conjunto e institucional en torno a la iniciativa Spotlight, misma que contempla un amplio paquete de reformas a distintas leyes locales que serán presentadas por las comisiones involucradas, en coordinación con la Junta de Coordinación Política, con el fin principal de mejorar las condiciones de vida de las niñas y mujeres guerrerenses. Al hablar sobre las propuestas que competen a la Comisión de Justicia, el diputado Jesús Parra reconoció las aportaciones que presentaron los representantes de la ONU, y externó la plena disposición del órgano legislativo que preside para trabajar de manera conjunta con el resto de comisiones, de modo que se logren dictaminar y aprobar en tiempo y forma las reformas, adiciones y homologaciones a distintos ordenamientos locales para garantizar la impartición de justicia en favor de las niñas y mujeres. En su oportunidad, la diputada Julieta Fernández Márquez, secretaria de la Comisión de los Derechos de las Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes, indicó que la violencia hacia estos sectores es un problema grave que para ser erradicado requiere de reformas que ayuden a la prevención. “Solo así podrán mejorarse las condiciones de vida de estos sectores vulnerables”, apuntó. En el encuentro se acordó la elaboración de un calendario de actividades y reuniones para que diputadas y diputados de las comisiones ordinarias involucradas, con el apoyo de sus equipos técnicos, analicen las 15 disposiciones de reforma a distintos artículos del Código Penal y a la Ley de Salud propuestas por los representantes de la ONU Mujeres, a efecto de saber qué es viable y qué no, e ir definiendo la ruta hacia la dictaminación y presentación ante el Pleno.
