What's your favorite Russian national park that you've visited and/or that you'd like to visit?
Visited: Kislovodsk
It's a small town hidden between mountains and the park is a large expanse of tree-covered hills with walkable paths, streams, a rose garden and an occasional tea house on top of a particularly difficult hill.
Want to visit: Baikal, Altai, Khibiny, Curonian Spit, Shantar islands... basically any of the far away places that have a different kind of landscape than central Russia. I've never been in the far North or the far East of the country.

USMC deploys the CH-53K King Stallion in an exercise for the first time

The U.S. Department of Defense reported on September 15 that the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) deployed the CH-53K King Stallion helicopter during a training in Mountain Home, Idaho.
The Heavy Helicopter Squadron ?? of the Marines (HHM) 461 has been on site before, but never with the latest innovation in Marine Corps aviation: the CH-53K King Stallion.
This is the first fleet exercise of the Marine Corps of the Marine Corps deployed to drive, marking a step forward for the Marine Corps.
"The CH-53K is more powerful, safer and an easier helicopter to maintain. This will allow each wing commander to have more capacity to support the Marine Air-Terrestrial Task Force in an austere environment," said Lieutenant Colonel Adam Horne, commander of HMH-461.
With three times the lifting capacity of its predecessor, the CH-53K is the new heavy lifting solution for the naval force.
"The benefits are infinite," said Sergeant James Ganieany, head of the HMH-461 fuselage division. "We practiced our external lifts with a Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) and we never had power problems. The HMH-461 had its first operational flight to the CH-53K in April 2022 and has been training with it since then."
"Routinely training with a LAV for an external cargo, for me, is absolutely incomprehensible," said Sergeant Dakota Schneider, chief crew instructor of Marine Weapons and Aviation Tactics Squadron 1. "It has power for days; you can do whatever you want."
Mountain Home, Idaho, was chosen as the first deployment for King Stallion training because it provided a new climate and terrain characteristics distinct from North Carolina, the home state of the HMH-461.
"We have many environmental flights that we can't do in New River, [North Carolina]," said Ganieany. "Canions, mountains, deserts, are 180 degrees of what we are used to flying."
The CH-53K can fly at higher altitudes, for longer distances and in warmer conditions than the CH-53E. The HMH-461 used these qualities at Mountain Home to assist in the future production and use of the CH-53K.
The Marine Corps continues its long legacy of innovation with this test of the CH-53K King Stallion. The lessons learned by HMH-461 during deployment for training support the modernization efforts of the Marine Corps.

VIDEO: RAAF discloses 360o view of the F/A-18F jet flying in the middle of buildings during the Riverfire test
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 09/18/2022 - 14:52in Air Shows, Military
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) released remarkable images ?? 360-degree filmed from the cockpit of an F/A-18F Super Hornet flying through the Brisbane shopping center.
Filmed during a rehearsal for the annual Riverfire show two weeks ago, the filming takes viewers through the city at high speed, passing through office towers and along the Brisbane River.
In the video, viewers can click to experience the 4K flight from all sides, as if they were flying in the Super Hornet, while the jet crosses vertically along the river and over the suburbs.
youtube
The low-level flight of the fighters is a popular feature of the Riverfire festival every year before the fireworks, with jets and helicopters making several quick passages along the Brisbane River between South Bank and the CBD.
Starting well above the CBD, the Super Hornet quickly descends to the river, passing through William Jolly Bridge and Roma Street Parklands and circulating back to the city.
Tumblr media
Flying low over the river again, the jet circulates around Gabba and returns several times over the suburbs before the rehearsal ends.
Super Hornet's flight attendant, Matthew, whose last name cannot be used for safety reasons, said before Riverfire that pilots trained for weeks only for the single flyby.
Tumblr media
It was the first time that the Super Hornets participated in Riverfire in three years, after COVID blockades canceled the 2020 Riverfire festival.
In 2021, a C-17A Globemaster III flew over the middle of the buildings to celebrate the 100th year of the RAAF.
The Royal Australian Air Force has 24 F/A-18F Super Hornets fighters, all based at the Amberley RAAF Base, west of Ipswich.

The Su-35SM will use the AESA radar and the Himalayan EW system January 13, 2023 / by Author Poetra
What Russian fighter jet lovers have been waiting for may soon come true in the next few years. This is in line with the Russian Defense Ministry's program to upgrade the Su-35S fighter jet to the Su-35SM.
This step was taken in an effort to balance the production of the Su-57 Felon and the increasing need for front-line combat aircraft.
Several Russian sources said the process of upgrading the Su-35S was under way. It is hoped that this new variant of the aircraft will have various advantages that it does not currently have.
There has been no official statement from the company regarding the details of the increase in the Super Flanker's capabilities.
However, a number of leaks have been circulating. A number of features were mentioned will get a replacement.
To support modern combat, the Ibris-E radar currently used on the Su-35S will reportedly be replaced with the AESA radar used on the Su-57. AESA radars are important for increasing mastery of modern air combat that is growing.
In terms of armament, the Su-35SM will also be equipped with the new K-77M (Izdeliye 180) missile which features its own AESA seeker radar and trimmed fins.
This missile has been tested on the Su-57 where the missile is placed on a hanger under the wing.
The K-77M is capable of reaching a distance of 400 km with a warhead weighing 60 kg and a speed of Mach 6.
By carrying this missile the Su-57 will significantly increase its capabilities.
Meanwhile, the L175M Khibiny-M KNIRTI electronic warfare system, which provides radio-electronic protection for fighter aircraft from surface-to-air or air-to-air missile attacks, will be replaced by the Himalayan electronic warfare protection (EW) system found throughout the Su-35SM body.
The Himalayan EW system was tested on the Su-57 Felon in 2014.
The Su-35SM will also be equipped with a new communications, data exchange, navigation and identification system (OSNOD). This system was tested in 2019.
OSNOD system provides encrypted communication and anti-jamming function. OSNOD will allow the Su-35SM to function as part of a larger fighter network.
The OSNOD system can control various types of aircraft in real time during combat operations.
The Su-35SM will also be equipped with a laser beam emitter that can blind infrared from enemy missiles.
This system is mainly used in close combat when there is visual contact between two fighters.
