Seeing Lavatore makes me wonder something: How protective would Toilette get if GP!Krupp tried to do something to him? Not that Lavatore can’t protect himself since he’s a gigachad but still

Toilette isn't that overprotective but if Lavatore was uncomfortable or hurt, he would beat the shit out of Gp!Krupp if he was VERY close to Lavatore. Right now Gp may not know him but he will be willing to harm him too if it's necessary. Ree tries hard to keep Lavatore stable and tells him to stop getting involved but Lavatore wanter to get involved and wanna know what happened to his "regular job" that he used to have in the school

Almost a 4th wall breaking moment,,, sorta.

Since it came in second place on that pole, I revisited that Corpse Bride AU next... which I haven’t touched since 2017/2018. This time I tried going for a more accurate version of the story, and actually have CU and Krupp be separate people instead of being the same person due to some weird story plot. (And hey, unlike with Burton, this one features actual Jewish characters like in the original tale!)

I also benefit from coming back later and having more characters to use, as now nearly all the actual good adults are in the land of the dead.

(The original images are here, but be warned that the quality isn’t the best due to having a not so great tablet at the time. However it’ll give you an idea of what Edith’s wedding dress for this AU looks like).

Jerry Headcannons

He probably has anxiety,obviously cause of the way hes always anxious and the way hes always so hysterical over everything.

In my opinion,he's either gay or straight.

He probably only knows a few sentences in spanish ngl.

He only talks to Ree at work and doesn't like to socialize.

The Ree Brothers Headcannons

As kids,they were definitely inseparable.

As adults,they only see each other on thanksgiving and Christmas.

Toilette is definitely bisexual (it's canon anyways lmao) and Lavatore is probably straight.

They both try to get along now,especially after the 'camoflush' incident

hey hey, welcome to the first official post on this blog!

First order of business: updated refs for the cast! Starting with what I've been calling the "Main Quintet," or just the core cast of kid characters. I'll be posting a couple more of these bios to tide everyone over while I plan out the next comic.

Massive dump of information incoming:

- Ben Krupp takes the main character spot for this AU. Like mainverse Krupp, he's kind of grouchy and impatient and likes to stick to the rules, but there's meant to be a feeling of.... performance to it in this AU. He's had to take on a lot of new responsibilities in the family after losing his dad a few months ago and it's resulted in him feeling like he has to give up his childhood and be Mature™ now. The kid's stressed.

- Despite this, though, he still secretly holds on to his love of the Captain Underpants comics. He sees the fictional hero as a role model of sorts, the kind of person he wants to aspire to be. His attempts to be that kind of person, though, usually tend to fall a little flat....

- Design note: Ben's main color motif is green, but the bits of red are there as a nod to Cap's color motif. Ben may not actually be Cap in this AU, but I still wanted there to be a physical link between the two.

- Jasper Krupp is Ben's younger brother, the middle child of the Krupp family, and the glue that holds this whole group together. Unlike his brother, Jasper is a lot more open and friendly, and a lot more trusting and empathetic. He's a sweet kid, but like his brother, there's a hint of performance to his behavior, too.....

- Design note: the majority of Jasper's character in this AU is based off of my personal headcanons for Jasper, since he's pretty much a blank slate of a character otherwise. Canon is but putty in my hands etc. etc.

- Toilette Ree and his younger brother Lavatore are the new kids in town, having moved from Quebec to Piqua over the summer. It's been.... hard adjusting to the move. The other kids at Jerome Horwitz haven't exactly been making it easy for them, either. But hey, that's why they've got each other!

- Toilette is the more rowdy and confrontational of the two, but mostly when it comes to defending his brother. When he cools off he likes to put on this snarky, cooler-than-you attitude to make himself seem more formidable than his tiny frame would suggest. It.... doesn't really work all that well.

- In his spare time, he has a budding interest in engineering

- Lavatore, by contrast, comes off as the more timid, less aggressive brother, but that's only because he has a tendency to fall back on Toilette whenever the two of them are in trouble. When he's not struggling to survive third grade, Lavatore's actually a pretty nice, chill kid, with a surprising rebellious streak to his personality that comes out whenever he's emboldened enough.

- Design note: Toilette and Lavatore have the same color motifs as Ben and Jasper (green/blue). This is only partially accidental on my part.

- Design note: Toilette's hair curl is essential

- Edith (they never caught her last name) rounds out the core cast as Ben and Jasper's closest (and only) friend. A quiet, painfully shy girl, Edith has a hard time fitting in with the other kids at Jerome Horwitz Elementary, not that she isn't trying. Sometimes she can't help but think that the other kids can just tell that she's different, somehow....

- In her free time, Edith has a huge passion for baking. She likes to share whatever she makes at home with Ben and Jasper, her self-proclaimed biggest fans.

- Design note: Edith's color palette is an inversion of her mainverse counterpart's colors—mainly yellow with red highlights instead of mainly red with yellow highlights

Ideas/Headcanons about the JHE Staff

Ms. Ribble is single with no kids and lives alone with her cats.

Ms. Anthrope and Mr. Fyde secretly have feelings for each other.

Every once in a while, when they need a break from their jobs, Mr. Meaner and his sister will switch places with each other and do each other’s jobs. So far, no one has noticed.

After “unburning the bridge” in season 3, Mr. Ree and his brother sometimes do toilet experiments just for fun.

@ultimatecufangirl I thought it be difficult to draw them, but it wasn't that bad. I couldn't find a full body picture of mayor McChapper but I made it work.

Brainstorming the Krupp brothers' first meeting with the Ree brothers

Toilette and Lavatore get hit with a fair amount of bullying when they first arrive at JHES due to being the "weird" new kids from another country, so naturally it takes them a little while to warm up to Jasper and Ben (especially Ben, who initially wanted nothing to do with the situation), but they do all become friends eventually.

Behind the scenes post #1

In which I'll be looking through all the comics I've posted so far and highlighting interesting facts, details, and references I threw in while making them!

#1. General CU references:

- This is the most obvious one: Ben's locker number and locker combination are references to the first book's original publishing date—September 1, 1997

- "Murray" is Dav Pilkey's middle name (David Murray Pilkey)

- I said this in the original post but "Ms. Mancini" is taken from Madison Mancini, one of the kids George and Harold sabotage during the Invention Convention in the second book

#2. Production trivia #1: my cheat for saving time on environments: the following panels were all sketched over screenshots from the movie

- Sometimes to save time on a complicated panel, I'll directly sketch over a screenshot of the specific shot I need so I can get the layout of the scene down before moving on to finer details. It's good practice for drawing the same location freehand later on—every subsequent panel of the stage and classroom scenes was drawn organically using different screenshots as reference.

- I also alternated between tracing and freehand with the car in this comic. I'd post example panels but I'm already close to hitting the image limit on mobile oops.

- I'm not very great at drawing locations. Working on this comic has genuinely helped me improve in that area.

#3. Production trivia #2: how my loosey-goosey approach to comic-making can come back to bite me: I explained once how this scene was a last-minute addition to the comic

going back a few pages, we see this panel

Originally, this panel was supposed to be the only appearance of the Ree brothers in this chapter, with Jerry sitting behind them as a low-key Jeree reference.

- I actually don't make any scripts or thumbnail sketches when I make these comics. I have a rough outline of where I want the scene to go and everything from dialogue to visuals is kind of made up as I go along, lol. Case in point: adding in the above scene as a spur-of-the-moment decision because Melvin's dialogue needed relevant imagery.

- Once I started drawing that page, though, I quickly realized that having Ribble and Anthrope behind the Rees wasn't consistent with the first panel. Whoopsie. I considered going back to edit the panel for a while.... before I decided that the original angle wouldn't actually show them off that well anyway, lol. I figured the implication that Ribble and Anthrope were sitting there all along would be enough.

- Ultimately, I'm glad I added in this little scene. It's a nice character moment between Toilette and Lavatore, and it helps to set up some key points for later on....
