Mending wounds trope but with Neteyam😭😭 like imagine..
He can’t stop looking at you and you can just feel his eyes bore into the side of your face. When you notice this he turns his head away immediately, causing you to laugh. “What’s so funny?” He asks.
“If you wanted some more attention than I’m giving you, you could have asked.”
UGHHH im such a loser for him istg
A/n: I hope this is what you were asking for. I think it has a little angst but it just mainly fluff. Anyways I hope you enjoy!

Since the war with the sky people and Neteyam almost losing his life, you always wanted him by your side. The sight of Neteyam near death scared you and still managed to repeat in your mind. So, here you are treating his wounds.
Tracing one hand over his chest while the other on his thigh, looking up at him. He refused to meet your gaze and only looked at your hands instead. Just you seeing him in this state is enough to make him feel embarrassed.
He made a promise to always keep you safe and protected at all cost yet all he feels like now is a failure. Hurt that while he was dying, all he could feel was you and his mom's tears dropping on to his skin.
“I'm sorry”
You. Stop wrapping up his knuckles and look away from the boy and his apology.
“Don't be sorry for something you can't control”
Even if he got hurt, you saw this as a sign of strength.
He was your warrior.
“You just don't understand ___. All my life, I had to try to be perfect. Trying to make my dad happy. Always having to look after my brother and sister's… “
He paused for a moment.
“I made a promise that I couldn't keep and-”
“-Enough Neteyam" you interrupted him.
“I don't see you as a failure, nor do I consider you to be any different from before this war. You are still the one I love and will keep loving.”
“Just be you Ney"
Silence filled in the both of you. Both of you are smiling at each other like idiots. However, you get back on task and start cleaning his face.
“Ow! That hurts” the forest boy said, smacking your arm.
“Well, if you would stay still, it wouldn't hurt this much!”
Intentionally putting his hand on your waist while you clean his wounds.
He can't stop looking at you, and you can't help but feel his eyes bore into you into the side of your face. When you notice this, he turns his head away immediately, causing you to laugh.
“What's so funny?” He asked.
“If you wanted more attention than I'm giving you, you could have asked”

After years of making your new life within a new clan and people, you had thought life will be good for you. That all had changed when the ones from the past, the ones who love you and others who hate you had finally come back into your life. Seeking uturu from a new war that had started as enemies from the past had returned, and driven your family from their homes. The new life you have made here with the ocean, was now about to change even more as you will be welcome the past into your new life.
y/n " ummm" you had woken up to a reached our for the children to see they were gone, you had got up quickly and soon saw they were gone. You had gotten out from bed fast and looked for them in the room and they ere gone, making you rush into the common area of the home.
kawwney " see we have to watch the cooking fire closely when we cook" the triplets and kawwney were near the cooking fire, kawwney was making sure the kids were far away from the fire.
y/n " good morning"
kawwney " good morning my love is everything okay"
y/n " well I thought the kids went miss there for a minute"
kawwney " oh yes I had taken them so you can sleep in a bit more and we can make breakfast"
?????? " mommy" you soon looked down to see Kewia walking towards you.
y/n " good morning baby boy how have you been doing for your baba"
kaewia " good"
kawwney " he been good they all have been good"
roili " mama" roili soon walked towards you as well you had smiled down at him.
aeyla " beauty mama" aeyla was the last one to make her way towards you, once all your kids weee by you they had been given a warm and loving hug. The kids had laughed and smile soon sitting down and playing with the toys.
kawwney " breakfast is ready"
y/n " thank you for making breakfast"
kawwney " anytime so how are you feeling about yesterday"
y/n " well they are here and have been given uturu we just have to wait and see if they, extra changed over the years of stayed the same since the last time I saw them"
kawwney " lets hope as well or we are going to have some problems with them" the couple conversations had been interrupted when they heard a clay bowl break, they soon looked at the triplets as ayela still had her bowl. she was looking at her brother who were pointing at each other.
kawwney " I rather deal with my kids acting like children verse Jake childish actions"
y/n " come one boys let clean up this mess" you had cleaned up the mess that had been made, once breakfast was eaten and over with soon it had reach the time for the lessons.
tsireya " good morning" tsireya had came by the home with her brother behind her.
aonung " good morning brother, y/n and the kiddos" Kewia had almsot dash out of the home, he was ready to go explore today and leave the home.
rotxo " not so fast there kewia" rotxo had caught the boy and was now holding him in his arms.
y/n " thank you rotox" rotxo soon put his nephew back into the home as kewia went to play with his siblings.
y/n " I need to have some words with all four of you"
kawwney " ma y/n"
y/n " listen to what I have to say kawwney ... look I know we will be starting lessons with my family and clan as they been given refugee here after losing their home ... I know you all might have your own feelings about the matter but I need to make sure no harm comes to my siblings and spider and other as well"
tsireya " I will make sure they are safe and well take care of"
y/n " thank you tsireya I know you will do that boys"
rotxo " I will be good and make sure to help them and that no harm comes to anyone of them"
aonung and kawwney " ........"
y/n " you two have something to say or going to stay silent"
aonung " I have respect for you y/n and will do anything you ask me to do and make sure to complete it to the fullest, but why are you being nice to them those foolish treated your horrible"
y/n " aonung"
aonung " no why even mother asked why they let them stay for the harm, they done to you and might do to the tripelts"
y/n " aonung clam down and breath in and out" the boy had done what he was told, and soon breathed in and out looking at you.
aonung " I'm sorry y/n I was rude of me and now I have draw attention of others" there were some people watching but they had soon shushed away by kawwney.
y/n " it okay and I can see you are all worried but it will be okay, I'm no longer the same girl I have changed over the years"
rotxo " we understand and we will make sure that the triplets stay safe"
y/n " thank you" you and hugged the three teens in a group hug make them smile, they really enjoy your hugs.
kawwney " I would say it childish for me to be like this but everyone getting attention but me" the group soon laughs at kawwney words, you soon ended the hug and kissed kawwney on the left check.
y/n " happy now"
kawwney " yes"
y/n " now I'm going to do you be nice to my father to your best ability, or don't cause him to much harm when he with you and your father"
kawwney " I promise for now but one wrong move or word, we are going to have even trouble then we already have"
aonung " I have to agree with my brother there might be some embarrassing moments or pranks coming here and there"
y/n " oh eywa give me strength you are being bad influence on the kids"
tsireya " well it already agree upon by everyone that kewia and roili are like kawwney"
y/n " yes there not lying there" the group had looked back to see the boys were play fighting a bit while, their sister walked towards you and tsireya.
kawwney " wait what about our mother and father"
y/n " ronal and tonowari are their own people and there no way I can control them, are do you all their children wish to tell them what to do"
tonowari kids " no"
y/n " good as I might be helping with the lesson with my siblings or my parents, meaning the kids will be attend to by caretaker for some part of the day"
kawwney " good but how long can we keep them hidden from your family and clan the boys don't look that much like you, but Aeyla look just like you"
y/n " we will tell them the truth and they will have to understand it and maybe accept it and if not then that on them"
kawwney " as you wish my love now come on everyone lets get going, I will see you later by love"
y/n " bye" The group soon left the home leaving you with the children.
The group
Tisreya " today we are going for a swim"
rotxo " follow after us"
neteyam " are you sure"
aonung " don't it will be okay just come along" the tiro had soon dove into the water, as soon enough the sully siblings and spider had followed. Your siblings and spider were swimming around and looking at all the creatures around them, they are amazed by the ocean beauty. They couldn't stay under water for long as they soon made their way to the surface.
tsireya " what wrong"
tuk " you swimming to fast wait for us"
neteyam " we don't understand what you are saying with your hands"
tsireya " I can teach you don't worry"
kiri " this places is so beautiful"
spider " I have to agree with kiri"
lo'ak " you are all amazing swimmers"
aonung " thank you"
tuk " wait where is y/n will she be teaching us as well" the sully kids and spider were looking at three teens.
rotxo " she will be around later on today maybe be might be busy"
tuk " aww but I wanted to see her I miss her"
tsireya " she has missed you all as well she spoke highly of you all" the sully kids and spider smiled hearing towards words but, they really wish to see you.
aonung " now lets try something else out" The group had taken off try out something new, and that something new is IIu riding. The riding session was going well and bad at the same time.
lo'ak " ahhh"
?????? " are you okay there baby brother" lo'ak soon looked and saw you riding one of the IIu a smile had grown on his face, you soon dismounted off your iii and dove into the water. You had swam away a bit and soon came to the surface.
lo'ak " y/n"
y/n " hey lo'ak" lo'ak had soon heard laughing coming from the boy behind him.
lo'ak " that was embarrassing and I wipeout in front of tsireya"
y/n " it okay I had a hard time as well you will master the skill soon"
tuk " y/n you came"
y/n " be careful tuk"
tuk " i wil make sure of that y/n" soon your siblings and spider had made their way towards you, happy to see you again.
kiri " sister you look so beautiful there seem to be a new glow to you"
y/n " thank you"
spider " it seems like we have yet to master the ways"
y/n " don't worry you will master the way soon but it will take time, just like I told lo'ak"
neteyam " so do you know tsireya, rotxo, and aonung very well"
y/n " yes I do"
aonung " when she arrived her she had been brought into our family care, well mostly our brother had brought her home when she landed here ... she had been given refuge here and learned the ways"
neteyam " that all happened on the night you ..."
y/n " yes on the night I was banished from home it has been many years since that day"
neteyam " we are sorry if we could of done something that night, you would still been at home with us and we would of not missed so much in your life"
y/n " I know but what has happened has happened I have missed you all growing up as well"
tuk " well you might still get to see me get an ikrna as I dont have one yet and might never"
y/n " don't speak like that in time you will gain one"
spider " hey why don't you have tattoos like all the other women, your age around here"
y/n " well I have decided to wait a bit longer to get my tattoos"
lo'ak " you will look amazing with them"
y/n " thank you"
tsireya " y/n will you like to join us and help us teach your siblings if you are free"
y/n " I will love too" The group had went back to their lesson and everything was going well, some mess up here and there but the lesson were going good. The group had enjoyed your company as you had made the whole lesson fun, and you are very nice teacher as well.
Later on that day
y/n " I should go get the children I don't wish the care takers to be overwhelmed by all the little ones"
????? " are you sure this a good idea you might not be ready" you had heard kawwney voice, you soon had your IIu go to where his voice had been coming from and it lead you towards the location.
y/n " ......" you eyes had soon laid on Jake and tsu'tey as they are with tonowari and kawwney along with the other warriors. As the Jake and tsu'tey seem to be training to tame and ride the strimwings.
y/n " it seems like lesson here are going well" you had soon spoke up getting the group attention.
kawwney " y/n you have graced as with your appearance"
y/n " well I had gotten done helping my siblings and cousins with their lessons, along with your sibling and was heading back to the village as they were taking a break" you had gotten off your IIu and looked at the group.
tonowari " were the lesson good"
y/n " yes your children are good teachers"
kawwney " that good to hear"
Jake " hello y/n"
y/n " hello Jake tsutey I see you both wish ti ride one of the clans fearsome creatures"
Jake " yes it will be good and hey we need to learn right away"
tsu'tey " I have to agree with your father as warriors we most defend our families and clan"
y/n " are you sure about this the both of you these creatures are not lie ikran or dire horse"
Jake " I got this don't worry I will be okay" there was no talking Jake out of his decision, he soon got onto the strimwing as the other males held the creature in place.
y/n " keep a good form when you dive in and out"
Jake " got it there no need to worry" you just shake your head it seems like Jake, was allowing his ego to get the best of him. There was nothing you could do as his soon mounted onto the creature and made the bond.
tonowari " your daughter words are good advice take them to heart"
Jake " let do this" Jake soon took off but it didn't go well he soon lost control of the creature, just like lo'ak but a bit more embarrassing as some of the other warriors and kawwney were laughing. You had sighed watching Jake hiss in pain. The rest of the time Jake and tsu'tey seem not be being so well and were always falling off.
y/n " it will be good to end lesson for the day as you both seem tried and need rest, you and try tomorrow there no point on wearing yourself out"
Jake " sure"
y/n " good it will take time but soon enough you both will learn the ways"
Jake " thanks hey we should head back the village together the family home not that far from here"
y/n " I will love to but ...."
kawwney " y/n are you coming we promised to head back to the village together, as we have plans tonight and responsibilities as well"
y/n " oh yes goodbye for now take care" you soon had left with kawwney, he had a smile on his face as you and your IIu swam pasted him. Kaweney could feeling someone looking at him it was Jake and tsu'tey. Jake seem to have mixed emotions about everything going on, but there hadn't been a chance for words to be exchanged as all three males had parted ways.
y/n " you are tested the waters you know my husband"
kawwney " oh yes I know but what can he do about it, unless he wishes to start trouble"
y/n " oh eywa"
kawwney ": now if you excuse me I'm going to get our children" kawwney soon raced off and you laugh, calling him a cheater in the race to get home and see the kids. He did win in the end and you were fine with it, as you did get the time to be with the kids.
The sully family
lo'ak " we got to hangout with our sister today"
neytiri " that good we should have her over for dinner soon, as it been so long since we saw her"
tuk " we should invited kawwney over as well"
mo'at " oh yes he the eldest son of tonowari I have heard many good things about him"
Jake " ......"
mo'at " Jake what the matter"
Jake " I don't like him around my daughter"
lo'ak " well dad I have some bad news for you it seems like they are very close, as tsireya was telling as when she arrived here kawwnye had found here and brought here home attending to her when she was hurt helping her learning" mo'at knew there was more to the story but she was not saying anything, she was happy for her granddaughter and kawwney bond and she sense something as well.
neteyam " yes it seems like they have a good relationship we didn't ask if they are mates yet or not"
kiri " that might explain that glow she has"
mo'at " what glow"
kiri " I don't know but she has this glow that makes her even more beautiful and she happy, looking well too when she was with us she seem so natural in this environment"
tuk " she well liked by tsireya and her brothers the clan as well"
Jake " well I and your mother have a say in your sister relationship, and we have had some young man say they have taken an interest in her and we think one of them will be perfect for her and then she can come home with us when the time comes"
lo'ak " dad she has a life here and she happy"
neytiri " we know what best for your sister we have always know" mo'at sighed hearing towards words as she was drinking some water.
mo'at " I have a feeling y/n life here is wonderful and you two interrupting that will be rude, towards her and clan who been helping us"
Jake " I know mo'at but I will not having my daughter living the rest of her life here, and without here family we all will be leaving and there nothing kawwney can do about it ... or if he able to prove himself as worthy mate to my daughter we will be make sure she finds a good mate"
neytiri " same goes for you older ones as well find a good mate while we are here, as we will need to make a clan stronger and big"
older kids " yes mom" there more words had been spoken but mo'at had felt something was calling her and feeling. that was all leading towards you. Tomorrow she will have some words with you and telling you about what has been spoken about you, she wanted to help she and caught up for lost time. There are surprises coming for you family and clan, when they see your life was not living alone as they thought as you had a family here already and new life as well.

Hi! I know part 5 of Secret Cove is the end of the series but would you by any chance consider writing a third person perspective of reader’s family finding out she’s gone and both their families holding the ritual for them?
With The Great Mother
I got a few requests for this so here it is <3
Warnings: death and sad
Synopsis: Tonowari and his family find out about his daughter (reader) death. Neteyam and reader's funerals. Third person: gives perspective from all characters.
Tumblr media
Jake walked towards Tonowari’s pod, his entire body in pain. Not the pain from his battle wounds, but the pain of seeing Neteyam in his arms, his fatal wound corrupting his youthful body, his blood all over the rocks, his eyes full of fear. No. He couldn’t think about it, not yet. He needed to see Tonowari first, then he could let all of the memories wash over and drown him.
I want to go home
Neteyam’s voice hadn’t left Jake’s mind. Jake cringed, his eyes filling with tears and his hands shaking. Get it together, Marine, he said to himself, trying to calm his overwhelming nerves. Morning light streamed through the quiet village. Usually, mornings were full of boisterous activity, but not today. Everyone was resting, mourning, and feeling the weight of battle. Jake had told Neytiri to stay home with the kids and Neytiri agreed easily, not wanting to see anyone.
Thinking of his family hurt his heart, physically hurt. And he had a feeling it wasn’t going away anytime soon. He walked along the path, passing by various Mauri pods, with his head low. He focused on his steps, putting one foot before the other, and ignored the tremor in his heart. The ocean gilded calmly beneath the village, Jake watched the smooth blue surface until he reached his destination.
Sobs came from inside, making Jake slow his pace as he peered into Tonowari’s pod. Tsireya was collapsed on the ground. Her hands covering her eyes as her chest heaved deep sobs. Ronal sat in front of her, her hands rubbing her daughters shoulders, a look of confusion and shock on her face; maybe even traces of denial. Jake paused in the entrance, studying the scene.
“What is it, baby?” Ronal asked her daughter, her voice shaking. “What’s happened?”
Tsireya didn’t respond. Her head shook faster as she wrapped her arms around her legs and began to rock back and forth. Ao’nung stood on the outskirts of the room and bounced his leg nervously. “Where’s our sister?”
Jake took a deep breath before stepping into the pod. Tonowari looked up, his ears pulled back against his skull. He locked eyes with Jake as a look of horrid understanding passed over his face. Tonowari’s shoulders dropped.
Ronal sensed her husband’s tension and looked to him. Jake faced the family, the family that had taken his family in, and now both of them have lost their oldest children…
“Neteyam is with the Great Mother,” Jake said his voice raw.
Tonowari closed his eyes as if he could wish it all away. Ronal inhaled sharply and Ao’nung fell back against the wall of the pod. He crashed onto his knees, his mouth in an o shape. Tsireya stopped crying at Jake’s voice. She looked slowly up from her place on the floor. Her big eyes were red and irritated.
“Oh mother,” she whispered.
Tonowari looked from his weeping daughter to Jake. Realization dawned over his features. He began shaking his head. “No,” he mumbled.
Ronal’s eyes sharpened at her husband's words. She gripped Tsireya’s shoulders. “Where is your sister?” Panic coated her words. Jake tensed, his instincts told him to run but his heart told him to stay, and give his condolences to the family who helped him when they were at their lowest.
Tsireya closed her eyes, not wanting to see her family’s faces. “She is with Neteyam.” Ronal went rigid but Tsireya continued on. “She is with the Great Mother now.”
No one spoke for a moment. Silence resting over all of them like a blanket, wrapping them all in an earth-shattering grief, isolating them from who they were two seconds earlier. They will never be those people again, they will live with those words for the rest of their lives. She’s with the Great Mother. Tears flooded down Tsireya’s face, her tail laid flatly against the floor, as she reached out to her mother.
Ronal’s face had no expression. She didn’t move or blink. Tsireya wasn’t sure she took a single breath. Tonowari’s mouth turned slowly downward, a slight quiver beginning on the right side of his cheek. He turned to Jake, his eyes crinkled, like he just wanted to close forever.
“Is this true, Jake?”
Jake felt the weight of his gaze. The weight of his question. “Yes,” he replied. “I’m sorry. I was too late. Too late for both our children.”
A single tear fell down Tonowari’s face. Ronal still hadn’t moved. Ao’nung stood abruptly up. “This is not true!” He shouted, his tail flicking anxiously behind him and his eyes raced frantically around the room, as if trying to find some proof that this wasn’t real. “I do not believe this.”
Tsireya turned to her brother. “Ao’nung…”
He slammed his hand into the side of the pod. Tsireya jumped at the sound as Jake’s eyes looked downward. “My eldest sister is not gone,” he spat venomously. “I will not accept this.”
“Son,” Tonowari said softly, his voice strained and filled with pain. Ao’nung shook his head and took one look at his family. His eyes glassed over, brimming with tears. “No!” He shouted before pushing past Jake and running out of the pod.
“Brother!” Tsireya wept after him but he didn’t turn back.
Tonowari watched his son retreating back. What was he gonna do? His children… His heart clenched in his chest as he looked at Jake. Jake was already looking at him, understanding in his eyes. Understanding of what they had both lost that night. Tonowari reached his hand out and Jake gripped it tightly. They stared at each other, acknowledging each other’s pain. Their fingers clenched around the other’s forearm. Jake’s mind was swimming with memories he didn’t want to remember. But he kept his grip on Tonowari, they would need each other’s strength over the next months.
Tonowari let go first. “Go and grieve with your family.”
Jake nodded, not trusting his voice. He nodded at Tsireya and Ronal but neither woman was looking at him. He turned to leave, his grief felt like a stone on his heart. He needed to go home and mourn with his wife and children. How would he face them? Get it together, Marine, he said to himself once more before taking off into the village.
Tonowari faced his family. Now missing one member. Now missing his oldest daughter. He moved without thinking, he dropped to his knees beside Tsireya. She looked at him, her devastated gaze landing on him, begging him for comfort. His arms instantly wrapped around his daughter. She fell into his embrace, closing her eyes tightly.
“I told her not to go…”
He smoothed her hair down, brushing his trembling hands against her head. “Shhh,” he whispered. “I shouldn’t have let her fight with us.”
Tears fell calmly from his eyes. He wanted to scream, break something, burn the village down, or go back in time. But he can’t. He sniffled, trying to keep himself composed for his crying daughter and frozen wife.
“You couldn’t have stopped her,” Tsireya said, her arms shaking as she cried. “Not when it came to Neteyam.”
Her father reached his hand under her chin and lifted her broken face. He met her gaze and shook his head. “When she told me she was going to fight. It wasn’t Neteyam that she thought of first. It was you.” He squeezed his daughter's chin. “You and your brother.”
Tsireya inhaled sharply, her bottom lip shaking. Ronal blinked a few times as if waking from a stupor. She looked at her husband and daughter like she was looking through a cleaned window. Her tail wrapped around her knees.
Tonowari reached out his hand and placed it on his wife’s shoulders. Ronal let out a low moan like a wounded animal. His grip on her shoulder tightened as he pulled her into his embrace. Tsireya slipped her fingers through her mother’s and held her hand tightly.
“My daughter,” Ronal whimpered. She leaned her head against her husband's chest. “My daughter!” She cried loudly. Tsireya moved so that her head was right next to her mom’s. Tears fell from both their eyes, their hands squeezed each other as they shared their grief.
Tonowari bowed his head over his wife and daughter, his trembling arms encircling both of them. He couldn’t help but notice how it felt like someone was missing. He closed his eyes. He knew that he would feel that way for a long time, for the rest of his life. It will be Ao’nung and Tsireya and… No more and. He only has two living children. He choked out a sob.
Ronal looked up at the sound of her husband’s pain. She wailed, the sound came from deep within her like she was trying to claw all her grief out through her voice. She stared into her husband’s eyes, sharing his thoughts, telling him that she understands, that she knows nothing will ever be the same. He nodded to her, both of them crying.
They stayed like that for a long time. All three of them, sitting on the ground of their home, holding each other, weeping, remembering. Ao’nung finally returned, his eyes red and his ears twitching. Tonowari took one look at him and opened his arms. Ao’nung ran right into his family’s embrace. He collapsed between his mother and father, needing their support. They rubbed his back in soothing circles as he cried. Tsireya reached out and held his hand. He looked up at her and squeezed back, his only living sister.They spent the rest of the day drowning in grief.
~~~
The entire clan had gathered at the edge of the village, their tails hung low and soft whispers ran between them. Small fires had been lit, spreading warm light across the dark ocean as two families prepared for funerals.
Lo’ak sat in the water next to Kiri. He refused to cry where people could see him. He would stand tall, watch his brother’s body sink into the ocean, and then go home where he could break down in the darkness, alone. He didn’t feel he deserved to grieve Neteyam. It was all his fault. Lo’ak shook his head sharply. No, he can’t think about that, not now.
Neytiri and Jake came into the water, pushing a boat like leaf. Lo’ak didn’t want to look. He knew his brother’s body was in there. His heart began to pound as he gnawed on his bottom lip. He couldn’t face Neteyam’s lifeless body, not again…
Neytiri swam further into the ocean, her fingers pushing her oldest son’s lifeless body with her. She had noticed that Jake was unable to look at Neteyam for long. He preferred to keep his eyes ahead. Neytiri forced herself to look at her son’s body. The way his dark braids cradled his head, how his tail fell between his legs, and how his long back curled onto himself. She felt she owed it to him to watch his descent to Eywa. Her throat was tight and she felt each tear as it dripped down her cheek. But she wouldn’t look away. She would be here for Neteyam.
Once Jake and Neytiri reached the spot, they both paused, meeting each other’s eyes for a moment. All their history flashed between them, everything that had brought them to this moment. Jake felt a sob rising up in his throat, he tried to force it down but the sob fought its way out of his mouth and into the air. Neytiri’s ears fell flat at the sound of her husband’s pain.
They turned back to their children. Lo’ak was swallowing rapidly, fighting his tears as well. Kiri was crying openly, welcoming her pain with open arms. She allowed herself to grieve, not caring who saw. She held Tuk’s hand as the girls cried. Kiri wanted to honor Neteyam by feeling every ounce of pain that his death brought her. She wouldn’t cover it up or try to mend it, she would feel it. She would feel it for him, proof of how much she loved her brother.
Jake and Neytiri nodded to each other before they dipped beneath the surface of the ocean. They pushed Neteyam’s body towards the bottom where he would become one with Pandora. All energy is only borrowed. The couple reached for each other as they watched, their hands intertwining. Jake rubbed circles on the back of Neytiri’s hand.
Kiri and Tuk held each other tightly. Tuk shook in her older sister’s arms as Neteyam’s body slowly went out of view. She would never see her big brother again. The thought was too much for Tuk. She wanted to braid his hair and play with him. She wanted nothing more than to see his smiling face… Kiri let her younger sister cling to her, knowing that she would need her now more than ever before.
Lo’ak couldn’t stop the tears. He was practically choking on them. So much for keeping it together, he thought to himself. Then Neteyam’s body disappeared. The last bit of proof that his brother was here. Lo’ak’s shoulders shook uncontrollably. He wanted to sink to the bottom after his brother. He still hadn’t accepted his best friend's death… he wasn’t sure he ever would.
Neytiri and Jake took their time swimming back to their children, their hands locked together. When their faces broke the surface, Jake pulled all his kids into a hug. The entire Sully family, now a family of five, hugged each other in the water. Letting their grief pour into one another.
They broke apart when Tonowari and Ronal stepped into the water and began pushing a small leaf boat of their own. The Sully’s swam closer to the village to give the other family their space. Lo’ak tensed as Tsireya followed her parents. Her eyes were puffy, he knew she’d been crying. He’d been so torn up about Neteyam that he hadn’t checked to see if she was okay. His heart clenched at the thought of her grieving, of her having the same pain that he has.
Tsireya glimpsed over at him as she paddled after her parents. They stared at each other for a moment, a thousand words unspoken between them. He nodded slightly at her, letting her know that he was with her. She smiled, the expression looked forced on her usually happy face. Lo’ak wanted nothing more than to swim out to her and hold her. Jake placed his hand on Lo’ak’s back.
Ao’nung swam after Tsireya. He had told his parents that he didn’t want to come. He didn’t want to see his sister's lifeless body. That would mean this was all real and he would have to accept it. Tsireya waited for him, the firelight from the village lighting her sad face.
Once Ronal had begun to cry, she hadn’t stopped. The tears varied from light streams to heavy sobs. Her mind was unable to stop thinking about her oldest daughter, her laugh, her smile, her fierceness. She would remember her as a baby and child, running on the beach and diving beneath the waves with a playful grin. And she’d think about all that her daughter would’ve been: a strong warrior, a beautiful wife, a caring mother. Ronal reached her hand out and brushed it against her eldest daughter’s cold face. All the things she should’ve experienced…
Tonowari moved his daughter’s body through the water as his wife caressed her face. The sight broke something in him; he was surprised he even had anything whole that was left to break. Tonowari’s throat was raw from crying and forcing back tears. He no longer felt sad, just terribly numb. Like all feelings in the world had been ripped out of him. When they reached the spot, they turned back to their remaining children.
Tsireya and Ao’nung bobbed among the waves. Their usually bright faces were pale and melancholy. The siblings stayed close together, needing each other, both of them drawing on the other for strength.
Ronal and Tonowari pushed their oldest daughter towards the bottom of the ocean. They sank beneath the waves and watched her familiar form disappear. Tonowari’s shoulders shook as he cried beneath the ocean. His beautiful daughter…
Ronal wrapped her arms around her husband and rubbed her fingers soothing against him. He leaned his head on hers for a moment before they both swam to the surface. Ronal kept her arms around her husband, to which Tonowari was grateful. He needed his wife’s strength and comfort.
Tsireya and Ao’nung waited for their parents to join them. A few tears fell from Ao’nung’s eyes, and to Tsireya’s surprise, he didn’t bother to wipe them.
“Children,” Tonowari whispered as he reached his hand out to Tsireya. He held her hand tightly. Tsireya locked hands with Ao’nung, who grabbed his mother’s hand in turn. Their whole family floated amongst the waves, hand in hand.
“Tsireya!” Lo’ak’s voice called out after a few minutes. Tsireya turned her head to find the Sully children swimming towards them. Her face broke into a small smile; it hurt her cheeks and felt foreign but she did it nonetheless. Jake and Neytiri looked surprised before following their kids.
Lo’ak floated just a foot away from Tsireya and her family. He spoke to all of them but only looked at her. “I’m sorry.”
Kiri splashed up beside her brother. She looked each person in the eyes before saying, “we understand your pain.”
“Yes,” Ao’nung muttered before taking a deep breath. “I suppose you do.”
Tsireya let go of Ao’nung’s hand and reached it out to Lo’ak. He was about to grab it when Tuk burst up from between the waves. She took one look at Tsireya before throwing her arms around her. Tsireya fell back a little at the weight of Tuk’s hug before wrapping her arms around the small girl.
Lo’ak moved immediately, grabbing his sister and Tsireya into his own embrace. He felt Tuk’s small chest rising and falling as she cried. He squeezed her tighter. Kiri followed suit, wrapping her arms around Lo’ak and Tsireya, bowing her head between them as water lapped at her face. Ao’nung swam beside his sister before joining the hug as well. Five children instead of seven. They held each other tightly, now knowing what it’s like to lose one of them.
Their parents watched for a moment, seeing their children embrace in their shared pain before joining them. Jake and Neytiri wrapped their arms around the kids followed by Ronal and Tonowari. No one spoke, they didn’t have to. They all knew what the other was thinking: they were in this together. That thought was their only comfort as they clung to each other.
It was completely quiet and they remained that way for a long time. The only sound they heard was the shuffle of the waves. They couldn’t hear the call of an ikran, from far above and far away, where forest boy and ocean girl watched the scene. Although they couldn’t hear or see their lost children; forest boy and ocean girl, even from far within Eywa, would always be looking after their family.
Thanks for reading <3 feedback is always appreciated
neteyam x omaticaya!reader
summary : reader was too invested in their wood carvings that they didn't notice the small gash on their forearm and the cuts on their fingers, until neteyam seed them
warnings: I SUCK AT WARNINGS prob blood, talk of wounds, sharp objects?
Tumblr media
you were sitting in solitude, in the forest where you've been carving some woodwork for hours now with your sharp knife.
you've carved some animal shapes like ikrans and ilus for tuk, some pretty flower shapes for kiri, and you were currently working on carving something for your mate.
being so into your work you hadn't noticed the stinging cuts on your fingers, nor did you notice neteyam was climbing up to your spot.
"hello bab- holy shit y/n why are you bleeding!" neteyam said in shock as soon as he saw the small gash on your arm.
you looked up at him all confused, "huh?" you asked innocently
he sat down abruptly and grabbed your arm and pointed to your wound which was quite bloody.
"how did you not feel this?" he asks, absolutely confused that you wouldn't feel a wound that was slightly deep and bleeding.
you sheepishly smile and shrug, "i was carving, you know how i get so hyper focused on it." you said, still smiling at him
he purses his lips together and looks at your hands to investigate even more and thats when he notices your hands are full of cuts.
"baby your hands look like they've been through hell. that's enough carving for today, okay?" he said endearingly. he's always so gentle and is always looking out for you.
you pout, but agreed as you now felt the fatigue and the sting of your cuts.
"come on, let me help you with that" he said, pointing to your wounds.
he took you to his home and healed you their with the whatever he could find. your cuts were quickly healing with the help of your love.
"thank you nete, always looking out for me my love." you said, cupping his cheek and kissing his nose.
he smiles and scrunches his nose as he flushes at the contact, you've been together so long yet he still gets flustered every time you get all lovey with him.
"always will, pretty." he said kissing the palm of your hand that was on his cheek.
I've been watchin' you for some time, Can't stop starin' at those ocean eyes...
Tumblr media
Your hands grasped at the cool metal surface of the now sinking ship, but to no avail. It was slick as oil as you felt an arm yank you up. Nails dug into your skin so deeply you could feel the warmth of blood spreading down your arm.
"Let go of me!" you hiss before being cuffed to a rail.
The man laughed and then tossed Kiri down next to you, her face crestfallen when your eyes met.
"Talk to me, Corporal. This ship's goin' down and your girls with it. Your boy didn't have to die."
You flinch at that, feeling a chill run down your spine. Neteyam was-
An arrow flew by interrupting your thoughts before you were uncuffed and felt a sharp sting on your neck.
Hissing you struggle against the arm holding you down, but it only made the knife dig deeper into your throat.
"Runnin' out of time here Corporal," Quaritch said, his grip tightening.
"You already lost one kid today. You really wanna lose another?"
Jake grunted as he moved forward, his knife held out.
"Do not test me," Quaritch seethed, his eyes narrowing in anger.
"Just kill him, dad!" Kiri shouts, as you flinch.
He moves the knife closer to her throat, "Weapons down."
Hesitating Jake tosses the hatchet and knife to the ground as Kiri shouts, "Don't!"
You barely register the next words out of the man's mouth when a boy comes out from behind a pillar.
"No! No, don't hurt her!" he shouts as rushes in front of him.
"Stand there! Don't move," Quaritch shouts, his voice filled with anger as he takes the knife away from your throat.
You can already feel a warm and steady trickle flowing down your throat as Kiri looks at you and gasps, "Your nec-"
But she is interrupted as Neytiri leaps forward and grabs the boy, holding her knife to his throat.
Quaritch flinches as she speaks, "Release. Or I cut."
"What you think I care about some kid?" he laughs.
"He's not mine, we're not even the same species."
"Jus- please don't! Don't hurt her!" the boy sputters as Kiri pleads for her mother not to kill him.
Your eyes fall to the knife on your thigh, so carefully concealed they hadn't even noticed it when cuffing you. Taking advantage of the Colonel's distraction you reach down and grab it, hand shaking on the hilt.
"A son for a son," Neytiri hisses as you unsheathe the blade, the shell hilt cool in your palm.
She cuts his chest, "I cut," and you strike. Slashing upward you cut the Colonel's face.
And that's when you feel it, the cold metal of the Colonel's blade in your chest, the warm liquid sprouting forward and Kiri's hand on your arm as you fall backward.
Tumblr media
Neteyam watched as the Metkayina emerged from the ocean, her long hair dripping wet and her eyes sparkling in the sunlight. He couldn't help but feel his heart skip a beat as she smiled nervously in his direction. Giving a small wave he took a step toward her as he waited for Tsireya and the others to join him.
"I don't think I've seen you around here before," he said as he approached her, stopping a few steps in front of her in the sand.
A look of melancholy washed over her as she smiled sadly, "I-"
Before she could answer the sound of a throat clearing interrupted him, "What are you doing here?"
Turning back, he could see Ao'nung and Tsireya standing behind him. Ao'nung's voice was cold as ice, his expression angry, while Tsireya's was twisted in a mix of confusion and concern as she reached out to the girl.
Her expression shifted to one of discomfort as she glanced at Ao'nung before turning her gaze back to Neteyam. "I was just taking a swim," she replied, her voice soft and subdued.
Neteyam could sense the tension between Ao'nung and y/n, and he felt a protective instinct kick in. "Is there a problem?" he asked, his voice firm.
Ao'nung snorted dismissively. "No problem. We were just wondering what a sänui is doing here," he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
She tensed beside Neteyam, but before she could respond, Tsireya stepped forward, placing a hand on Ao'nung's shoulder. "That's enough, Ao'nung. Let's go we have lessons to teach," she said firmly, her gaze flickering between Neteyam and the girl.
"Neteyam," Tsireya said, her voice strained as she walked into the waves, "Come, join us, you will learn nothing if you stay on the shore," her hand gestured for him to follow.
Glancing back in the girl's direction he gave a quick wave and leapt in with the others.
As he swam alongside Tsireya and Ao'nung, Neteyam couldn't help but wonder about the girl he had just met. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was something different about her, especially with the way Ao'nung and Tsireya had treated her. And the words Ao'nung had thrown at her stumped him too, he had called her a sänui, a failure. They seemed close, yet distant at the same time, as if they were holding her at arm's length for some reason.
The lessons that day were intense, what with it being their first day in the ocean. His arms felt sore as he followed his siblings back to their mauri.
Tumblr media
Your hands rang the water from your hair as you stepped into your family's mauri, the room tense as your Mother set down a basket and grabbed an herb from your sister.
"Tsireya tells me that Toruk Makto's children have seen you," her voice is harsh and cold, but her gaze never meets yours as you stand in the entryway.
You feel a pang of guilt as your mother's words hit you. You knew that you shouldn't have been seen with Neteyam, or any of Toruk Makto's family, but you couldn't help it. You were curious and there was something about him in particular that drew you in, something that made you feel alive.
"I- I'm sorry, Mother," you stammer, looking down at your feet. "I didn't mean to cause any trouble."
Your mother snorts, turning to face you with a scowl on her face. "You never mean to cause trouble, but trouble always seems to find you," she says bitterly her hands now holding a mixing bowl.
You feel the weight of her words, the same words she's said to you countless times before. You know why there is malice in her voice, and her eyes every time she sees you, and it cuts your soul. Honestly, it wouldn't be half bad if she would pretend you didn't exist, but your Father put a stop to that.
"I'll be more careful in the future," you say softly, hoping to diffuse the tension in the room.
Your mother nods, but her expression remains stern. "You're getting older now, y/n, and it's time for you to start thinking about your future. You can't keep running around the clan, you need to stay out of sight, and the way. It is what Eywa has willed."
You feel a lump form in your throat at her words, knowing that she's right, but don't want to give up the feeling that deep down she's wrong. That Eywa would never will such a thing, that she would never will your Mother to cast you aside the moment you took your first breath, that there was some reason you were the way you were.
"I understand Mother," you say, your voice barely above a whisper.
She gives you a curt nod before turning back to her work, signaling that the conversation is over. You take one last look around the mauri before silently slipping out, feeling the weight of your mother's gaze as you walk.
But before you can fully exit the mauri, you bump into someone who exhales deeply. Flinching you glance up to meet your Father's eyes, full of melancholy as he gives you a tight smile, "My daughter," his hand lands on your shoulder.
Biting your lip you greet him, "Father," his eyes look down at the small basket in your hands, and they grow concerned.
"Where are you going so late?"
His eyes search yours for an explanation while you try not to frown, "Just for a swim."
He sighs in relief, "Be back before eclipse," and with that he heads inside, calling out to your mother, "Ronal," his voice trails off as you walk to the shore.
As you make your way toward the shore, you can't help but feel a sense of unease. Your mother's words still linger in your mind, and you know that she's right. You can't keep running around the clan, it's time for you to start thinking about your future. But the idea of conforming to the clan's and Eywa's expectations feels suffocating, and you can't help but wonder if there's more to life than just following the will of Eywa and listening to the people gossip in hushed tones when you pass them by.
Shaking your head you reach the shore and take a deep breath, feeling the cool breeze on your face. You can taste the salt in the air and the water is calm, as you wade in slowly, feeling the gentle waves lap against your ankles. You close your eyes and let out a sigh, feeling a sense of peace wash over you. Hearing a snap you turn to see one of the Sully children standing not too far behind you on the shore. You freeze as he waves and takes a step closer.
"Hey," he whispers as the waves pick up in pace.
Feeling a chill run down your spine you quickly dive forward, the cool water engulfing you, the taste of salt on your tongue. As you swim further out, you can hear the distant chatter of the clan behind you, but you feel a sense of freedom being out here on your own. The water is your sanctuary, your escape from your troubles, and yourself. You dive deeper, feeling the pressure in your ears as you go. You know you should surface soon, but you can't help but stay down, enjoying the weightlessness of being underwater. Suddenly, you feel something brush against your leg, and you startle, quickly kicking back up to the surface.
Gasping for air, you look around, but there's no one there. You try to shake off the feeling of being watched, but it lingers, and you can't help but feel uneasy.
Tumblr media
Neteyam stands dumbfounded on the beach after your curls disappear in the waves, the inky blackness of the waves obscuring the fact that you had ever been there in the first place as he turns to leave. Walking through the sand he wonders what you were doing out so late, and then he stops in his tracks.
In front of him stands the Tsahìk, her eyes foreboding and cold as she steps past him and towards the sea. Greeting her he quickly heads back to his family's mauri and lays down on his bed, his head swimming with thoughts of the strange girl.
The next morning he woke early to begin lessons with the ilu. Ao'nung took the lead on lessons while Tsireya demonstrated how to make Tsaheylu with them. It was just as Neteyam was about to take off with his ilu when he saw you. Your hair was now adorned with a scattering of orange and blue seashells, matching your top, and your eyes pointedly looked at the water as you called for an ilu.
As the ilu came forward you tossed it a fish, and patted its neck gently, smiling he urged his ilu to slowly move toward you. When he was mere inches from her he opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by Ao'nung,
"Again today," he seethed as he swam forward on his ilu.
She jumped back startled at his approach, falling over her feet and taking in a mouth of seawater as she fell. Neteyam's hand shot out and pulled her up as she rubbed her eyes.
"What are you doing here again?" Ao'nung asked, his voice harsh as he regarded her.
"I-," she paused as she looked down in thought, her eyes clouding with tears.
Stepping in between the two Neteyam sent a glare at Ao'nung, "Why can't she be here?" he hissed as he helped you gather the scattered contents of your bag.
"And who is she to you any way that you care so much she's here," his voice is stern as he looks to Ao'nung for an answer.
Your face pales as your younger brother's eyes lock on you and he laughs, "Tsmuke is just as useless as you all are."
Neteyam looks at him warily, "What do you mean? Why insult your own sister?" his voice is heated and a wave of confusion washes over him as he steps towards him.
You were their sister? It didn't make any sense to him, why treat you so coldly and call you a sänui, and worthless. Ao'nung feigns surprise, "You don't know?"
Biting back a laugh, he continues, "Oh, of course, you wouldn't, you're from the forest, so it might be difficult to understand," his finger points at you in accusation, "She has no spirit sister. No Tsaheylu. No connection to Eywa. She is worthless."
Neteyam's eyes shot to you, his eyes concerned as you stumbled back in the waves, "Your sister?"
He could feel his blood boiling as Ao'nung laughed and Tsireya turned away, her eyes locked on the sand.
He couldn't believe that anyone, let alone her own brother, could treat her so cruelly just because she didn't have a Tsaheylu. He could see the hurt and pain in your eyes as Ao'nung's words sunk in.
Turning to face Ao'nung, he spoke firmly, "That doesn't give you the right to treat her that way. She's still your sister-"
He's cut off by your shout, "No, he's right," a sad look washes over your face as you mount the ilu, and dive forward, disappearing underneath the waves.
Feeling his anger rise his hand clenches into a fist as he turns to Ao'nung and punches him.
His duties will not die.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
synopsis: what if it was lo’ak and not neteyam…?
pairings: Lo'ak x TwinFem!reader, Sully family x Daughter/sister!reader
warnings: death mention & swearing.
word count: 1.8k
a/n: i wrote this first thing when i woke up this morning i had to get it out my head. also i love emphasizing words with red text. also also i totally forgot to make this clear but you are lo'ak's twin sister, koa. the story takes place like 3 years after wotw.
Tumblr media
it was always his fault.
it was always going to be lo'aks fault.
no matter what he did, how hard he tried, what he sacrificed, it would always somehow wind down to being lo'aks fault
… even if what he sacrificed was himself.
"koa…"
you ignored your father as you had been since your twin died. the day your brother's life left his eyes in your arms was the day you vowed to never speak again if the person who understood you most was lying lifeless in your arms.
"koa, it's been years babygirl. will you please just talk to us? please, we're all hurting. we all miss him. just please say something. anything." jake would do the same thing every day. beg and plead with you to talk to him or anyone on the island. having twins was already demanding, but it's even more complicated when one dies in the other's arms. and as if it couldn't get any worse, you went mute after your brother died, so jake felt as if he had not lost one but both of his children.
you never slept or ate with them anymore, too focused on pulling your weight in the clan. you knew deep down your father didn't really want you to talk to him. he just didn't want to have to feel like he's lost another child. and to you, nothing else in this world could make you angrier. you spent years listening to your father grovel at your feet, begging you to say something to him. and suddenly, all those years went to waste when you finally snapped at him.
"you do not miss him." your voice was hoarse but not completely gone, as you would still speak every now and then. but it was only when you were alone or with payakan. you wouldn't sleep, so you would sneak out of your marui to visit your twin's soul brother, knowing he was the only other being in the world who knew how you felt.
that was the first thing you had said to anyone in almost 3 years, and honestly, it hurt your father's feelings.
"koa, you cannot say that," jake tried to defend himself, not expecting his daughter's first words to him in 3 years to be dripping with poison as she spoke to him. he was confused. why were you acting this way?
"oh, so now i cannot speak because you don't like what i said? well, it's fucking true. you did this exact same shit to him all the time. do not try it with me, it wont work." you yelled at him.
"watch your mouth young lady." your father kept trying to give you warnings because he knew this wasn't you. he knew you were just speaking out if hurt and that you didn't really mean what you were saying… right?
"no! fuck you! this is all your fault. if you hadn't put so much pressure on him, he would still be here. it was always his fault, his fault, his fault. TAKE FUCKING ACCOUNTABILITY. HE WAS YOUR SON. HE WAS RAISED BY YOU. YOU TAUGHT HIM HOW TO BE HIM. ALL HE WANTED WAS FOR YOU TO SEE HIM. ALL HE WANTED WAS FOR YOU TO BE PROUD OF HIM. HE DIED TRYING, AND YOU STILL DON'T SEE HIM AND YOU NEVER FUCKING WILL BECAUSE HE'S DEAD AND ITS ALL YOUR FAULT" every sentence was paired with a punch, a push, or a shove to your father's chest. honestly, jake just stood there and took it. you were his daughter, and you were hurting, so if you needed to punch and push him a few times to release some anger, then he would allow it. at this point, jake was willing to do anything for your forgiveness.
"koa, i understand that baby girl, but you have to heal now. you've been overworking yourself, not eating, baby, you barely sleep. this can't go on anymore. i can't allow you to keep killing yourself. i can't lose anyone else." your father said, tears clouding his eyes as he took in every word you said.
you were right; looking back on all the times he had lectured his children, he couldn't even count on his fingers and toes how many of those times it was only lo'ak getting in trouble. jake is only now noticing how he would always treat you and lo'ak differently even though you were twins. to him, you were his princess, his baby girl, his fiercest daughter, and lo'ak was nothing but an immature warrior who wasn't ready for the world, let alone any raids.
"oh, but it was okay to lose him?" you asked, voice already hurting because of all the screaming you had done.
"i didn't say that-" jake tried to explain, but you cut him off.
"NOBODY HERE CARES." you screamed, pushing away a bit harder this time, causing his frame to shift slightly. he gently held your forearms, trying to keep you within arm's reach so you wouldn't slip away from him.
it was quiet.
"we are supposed to be pulling our weight in this clan. i do not care if you think i am killing myself. his duties will not die with him."
your older brother was tired of your silent treatment, as his father called it. he felt like you were being selfish. everyone lost lo'ak. it wasn't just you. the whole family had experienced a loss, and instead of coming together as you guys should have, you distanced yourself. you made it hard for the family to know how you were feeling or even what you were doing. they could almost always never find you. you were always out fishing or with tsireya weaving baskets and making jewelry for the little girls and boys of the clan.
you would also sometimes talk to tsireya. well, not really talk. your brother's girlfriend had immediately respected that you had gone mute after the whole situation. if she had enough self-control, she would probably be right there with you. she taught you sign language upon your request so that you could still communicate with her. since you two were the only people close enough to really see lo'ak, you became inseparable, much to ao'nungs dismay.
"koa, let it go. the whole family lost someone. this isn't only about you–" your older brother tried to get you to snap out of your little pity party, but then you snapped at him.
"NO! I WILL HUNT MY PORTION AND CONTINUE UNTIL I CATCH FOR LO'AKS SHARE. I WILL WEAVE MY BASKETS AND CONTINUE UNTIL I HAVE WEAVED LO'AKS SHARE. I WILL TRAIN UNTIL ECLIPSE, THEN TRAIN MORE TILL MORNING FOR THE TIMES LO'AK SHOULD'VE BEEN TRAINING. THIS WAS NEVER FUCKING ABOUT ME," you yelled at your elder sibling, having pulled yourself from your father's grip upon hearing the bullshit that was coming out of his mouth.
"it was his decision to go after the spider! he's dead because of the choices he made–" neteyam said. he knows in the back of his head he didn't really mean it, and he made a mental note to apologise to you later when you're not both about to rip each other's heads off in the heat of the moment.
"IT WAS MY IDEA," you screamed at him, tears spilling down your cheeks. the whole family gasped; they were confused, especially neteyam and kiri. it was lo'ak who came to him with the idea of getting spider back, so…
"what are you talking about?" kiri voiced what everyone was thinking.
"it was my idea. i knew how much spider meant to you, kiri. you're my sister so i couldn't not do this for you. we had to save him. i convinced lo'ak that if he could get nete on board with the plan that we could go after spider and save him. if only lo'ak hadn't-"
"LO'AK ISN'T HERE." neteyam yelled at you. he didn't know where the volume or energy to yell came from. he was tired of being reminded of the brother he had lost. this wasn't something he wanted to keep reliving.
"DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW THAT?! NONE OF YOU KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO FEEL THE OTHER HALF OF YOUR HEART BE RIPPED OUT OF YOUR CHEST. IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES NO LESS."
"koa…" your mother finally spoke, pulling you into the hug you'd needed for the past 3 years. giving you the warmth that you could've used when you were crying yourself to sleep. sharing the comfort that has been passed around the family, and now, it is your turn to experience it.
"sa'nu, he pushed me out of the way. he saved me and risked himself. he put his life on the line for me. my twin brother is dead and–" you said, sobbing into your mother's embrace as your father and little sister, tuk, slowly joined.
"koa, my child… your brother is with the great mother eywa now… he is safe. if you want we can go to the tree of voices right now to visit him." your mother offered the thing that brought her to ease the most, visiting lo'ak at the tree of voices.
you hadn't dared go anywhere near the cove of the ancestors after your twin died. you didn't dare to face him. worried that he'll lecture you after seeing what you were doing to yourself. he would probably find a way to blame himself too.
"i don't want to see him. i want to be with him… i miss him." you cried, kiri and nete having joined the family hug as well.
your anger had long since died down. after 3 years of pent-up emotion, you finally felt like you had people to support you. but as you looked into your mother and father's eyes, you said the one thing your family needed to hear. the one thing they needed you to say so they could properly help you.
"my twin brother is dead, and it is my fault..." you cried to your parents. you don't really think it's jakes fault
you think it is yours.
your family was at a loss for words, so neytiri and jake decided that no words were meant to be said. they would determine what steps to take toward your healing tomorrow morning, but right now, they just needed to be there for you and be the parents you always needed them to be.
they wish their boy didn't have to die, trying to prove that he is beneficial to this family and not only seen as a burden. they wanted to be the parents that lo'ak always needed to be. the ones who love and do not lecture. the ones who were open-minded and didn't give orders. if only they could be those of parents for lo'ak, even if it just for one second.
